The game can disincentivise camping/tunnelling but I think these actions are basically impossible for the devs to remove.
Some of the ideas people suggest are too damaging to a killer’s agency. Plus if a survivor team has 2/3 really good loopers and 1/2 poor ones it makes absolutely no sense for the killer to try and spread the hooks evenly. Even with the killer buffs and extra ten seconds, if you try and play as nicely as possible by spreading the hooks around and get caught in chases with good loopers and don’t switch targets because you want to be a “nice” killer you will often lose the game.
There’s another issue as well in that the consensus seems to be that it’s acceptable to camp/tunnel at certain parts of the game but not at others. Even if we all agree on that, how can the devs design the game around that sort of etiquette? Implement a camping/tunnel recognition system for when the killer is struggling with nobody sacrificed and there’s only one generator left to repair? Ok, you get to camp the hook now. It just doesn’t work.
Probably the best changes would be to increase base kit BT, revert DS to 5 secs, remove hook grabs and if the killer is insanely close to the hooked survivor then maybe buff repair speeds. But any more than that would be too much.
I honestly don't get the "tunneling/camping bad at 5 gens". Like just because it says 5 gens left, doesn't mean there's 5 gens worth of progress remaining. That can easily become 3 or 4 gens left.
I don't think the devs should increase repair speeds for the killer being too close to the hook. And relatedly I don't think the hook timer should slow down being too close to the hook either. Those mechanics are going to need exceptions and it's one of those things that survivors will abuse.
Something I ran into that should be changed in some way is that while it's not possible to completely block an unhook, killers can body block a single survivor trying to unhook. Meaning without coordination, a survivor on hook can just die because the killer is literally preventing the unhook. Hooks became radial due to an issue with killers being able to block the only unhook point so I think a similiar change needs to happen so a killer can't body block the unhook prompt. Along with no grabs this would at least gives survivors the ability to hook trade unless they mess up.

When I was watching Otz stream earlier to see the new content, I saw the 100% BP bonus on the survivor tab at the main menu. Seems like they were enabled just not mentioned in the patch notes.

Yeah, hes a killer main which means he's always right LOL honest no point arguing with him. I rarely play killer as survivors more fun for me, well use to be fun. I just know that when I play killer its too easy now since the update and I never even tunnel or camp.
I play both sides and do believe that tunneling and camping should be nerfed as they are currently too effective.
I just don't see tunneling and camping prevent survivors from playing the game. Being on a hook might not be engaging, but it's still part of survivor gameplay. It's fine you don't like a gameplay mechanic.

If you want to make the argument that being facecamped by a Killer isn't limiting your ability to play the game, go ahead.
It's a bad argument, but you're allowed to make it.
Your ability to play the game isn't being limited. You can not like how survivor gameplay is designed, but survivors are designed to be largely helpless on the hook and reliant on their teammates saving you. A killer preventing survivors from unhooking you is not preventing you from playing the game.
If you want to propose a different mechanic than the current hook state, go ahead. But the only way that a killer can actually prevent you from playing the game is if they body block you in the corner of the map and just sit there. Which is reportable btw.
Now I do think being able to facecamp survivors to death is not healthy for the game.
-
@Pulsar said:
Okay, it's still anti-fun and we should try to limit it as much as possible.
I figure if we make it so that Killers do not need to camp or tunnel, we can then remove their ability to.
I just don't think a player should have the ability to completely prevent another user from playing the game. That's dumb.
The problem is being camped or tunneled isn't taking away your ability to play the game.
Survivor gameplay includes being on a hook. A killer camping you on the hook is not preventing you from engaging with survivor gameplay. Is it not fun, sure. The new perk on the ptb to pause the hook state can almost indefinitely extend the hook duration and while that counters camping the person on the hook certainly isn't having more fun.
As far as tunneling, being chased is also a part of survivor gameplay. A lot of survivors insist that the chase is the fun part of survivor gameplay. So while I can understand some people don't necessarily enjoy being immediately chased off hook before they could heal up, nothing about that is preventing you from playing the game.

That was my point though is you have to charge longer I guess slower is the wrong word but technically it does take you longer to reach maximum range because of the add on
It only matters if you are blinking past normal blink range. If you are going for a short range blink, it takes the same charge time regardless. And the range addons make your short range blinks faster.
-
@The_Krapper said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3123092#Comment_3123092
Actually running range add ONS makes your blink slower to charge but you just get that extra distance, a lot of people know I'm a nurse main on here and even I'll say the range add ONS need to be removed from the game, nurse really isn't as bad as some people claim though they just want her nerfed so they can run in circles and play her the exact same way you do most of the killers, if she gets nerfed I really hope they just do add ONS and not base kit nurse.
I don't know how you can call yourself a nurse main and not understand the mechanics of the range addons.
The addons don't make you charge slower. If you charge 0.5 seconds, you'll travel the same distance with or without the addons. What the range addons do is allow you to be able to charge a bit longer for extra distance. This was an intentional change with the nurse rework a couple years ago nurses didn't need to learn different muscle memories with range addons.
Patch 5.5.0 had a huge nurse update to her code and reintroduce omegablink nurse with her range addons. It might not be as fast as it was before, but it's pretty significant. Otz has a comparison video (starts around 2 minutes):
https://youtu.be/8x-shHZpCzg?t=118 -
A lot of nurses are taking advantage of the range addons making her blink faster which basically gives little to no counterplay against a good nurse. Those games often just feel pointless to play out.

but that's the whole fun of it? now one perk takes away any recovery from adrenaline.
It's not even unique to Terminus.
Any perk that inflicts broken can counter Adrenaline.
-
Adrenaline already ignores exhaustion and even waits for you to be unhooked or dropped from the killer's grasp to trigger.
A single killer perk hard countering an already good perk that already ignores things it shouldn't is not an issue.

I highly recommend that you watch those videos. Especially the second one is very revealing on the mindset of some people.
It's insane to me that survivors needing to try to win is a problem now. Like if you want to play casually where you just chill with the game as a background thing, you can do that. Just don't expect to be escaping a lot.
-
@cburton311 said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/339965/tunneling-is-getting-out-of-control
Tunneling is a huge problem, but I think this misses the point a little. Unacceptable tunneling occurs when a vulnerable survivor is unhooked and the killer bypasses all options to rehook that person almost immediately. If you have a chase that lasts 3 minutes, thats just playing the game and you did your part well.
What's the difference? The hooked survivor has very little options in those first few seconds off the hook. BT helps a little but as you mentioned the changes to DS, the recovery time after swinging, and the reduced speed boost all contribute to a situation that isn't fun at all. Survivors go from very unfun hanging on a hook to return there with little chance to actually play the game. After you get to resources, and start running the killer, especially if that duration is measured in minutes, this can hardly be called tunneling. The killer hasn't deleted you from the game.
The problem with the 2 different scenarios is the survivor is one tiny mistake from turning a very unfun tunneling experience into hanging on the hook again.
There's no such thing as "unacceptable tunneling". It's a player elimination game and the killer is free to decide how they want to try to eliminate their opponents. The only thing that needs to be done is survivors need a bit more tools to help deal with tunneling as it's currently a bit too effective.

Killing someone early is vital. Sorry that you don't like it when killers kill.

Did you read the paragraph you quoted? Here is a question for you, imagine you roll a dice 39 times, and you get only 6s. Would you need to throw it 1000 more times before claiming the dice is rigged?
You are trying to extrapolate 39 games between 4 players as an overview of the current state of the game for solo queue. 39 games is a drop in the bucket for the comparison you are trying to make. You need significantly more games before you can even make any sort of statement about the escape rate for solo queue survivors.

While I agree collecting data like this incurs a lot of problems, I heavily disagree about sample count being low (btw: now it's 39 games, I added a few new ones).
Despite the sample count being apparently low to our intuition, it's far enough for statistical laws to apply. MMR is supposed to make you win 50% of your games, but if that was true, then the probability of getting only 11.5 wins in a sample of 39 would be 0.4% according to Binomial calculator, so while we can't tell for sure what is the probability of surviving, we can already say that it's not 50%, and sample count won't change anything.
That said, my data is affected by the following problems:
- Low diversity of players (only 4, not representative of what other streamers can maybe experience)
- Time of day, mood of players
Fixing 1) would be tedious but doable, fixing 2) is unlikely to be doable. If you can name a few solo queue players (say 5, ideally with different MMRs) and an approximate time when they play then I'll redo the study with these players. You choose the parameters so I avoid selection bias.
I defined a "win" based on the MMR rules: Escape = win, Death = loss, Hatch = Draw.
39 games is still virtually nothing.
-
Pain Res will still explode the gen causing you to be interrupted during the repair and trigger DMS if the killer has it. Calm Spirit doesn't prevent the knock off effect. However, you shouldn't scream but it might be an oversight since pain res causes survivors to scream, but does not create a sound notification.
-
If you had a data set of more than 4 people and a larger match count overall, this might mean something.
But we're looking at less than 40 matches overall between 4 players. Hardly enough to make any sort of conclusion about solo queue.
I can tell you from personal experience, I've had nights where it was a struggle to get a single escape. Then I had nights where I would escape multiple times in a row with a couple deaths. (all after 6.1.0).
EDIT: I should also mention, sometimes the nights were I have trouble getting an escape. The match result is still a 3-man escape because I would die in the end game after the generators are already done.

Yeah, survivors healing while sick is a common one. Another is people cleansing right before they unhook a sick player or touch a dirty gen. There's not thinking a minute in advance, and then there's just not thinking period. Or not knowing how Plague works, because that's the only other way I can explain some of the stuff I've seen.
Legion's another common one for 'help, my teammates have no idea how to play against this killer and it's Screwing Me Over.' Or when you watch your teammate tbag behind a pallet against Myers...
To be fair, there are valid times to cleanse before unhooking a sick survivor. When a plague is hanging near the hook it's too unsafe to attempt a rescue while injured so you need to heal just so you can trade.
-
I had a teammate rescue me from hook and then proceed to take the vault sandbagging me. If you really wanted me to die, just leave me on hook. People who unhook and then leave you to get tunneled are just annoying to be on the receiving end of.
Though last night I had a teammate ######### at me for being "bad" and went onto my steam profile to cry about how I have 3K hours. I had 2K less points than him, all the gens got done, and we all died because the killer slugged all 3 of us at the end of the game. But I guess he needed someone to ######### at since everyone else was crossplay.
-
If you bought and played the game before this patch and had enjoyed yourself, it wasn't a waste of money.
This mind set that a game got an update that you don't like suddenly means that you wasted money on the game is just flawed logic. Do you say you wasted your money when you beat single player games?
-
If you DBD is anymore buggy than other live service games out there, than you really haven't been paying attention. When you have multiple people updating the same code base, bugs are bound to happen. It's simply not possible to track every change that happens before a release.
-
The combo doesn't really see much run, because even with survivors cleansing plaything totems the killer still has to find time to create the pentimento totem. And since generally survivors know where hexes got cleansed, it doesn't take that long for them to locate and cleanse your pentimento totems.
As good as 30% slowdown is, trying to set up and keep it around is kind of hard. And since it's not something that can just be active at the start of the match, good survivors who don't go down quickly can often not be pressured to cleanse their plaything totem.

Lol, you are omega tilted.
There is a small difference though. She is wasting my time here, but you are not losing anything if killers get Bloodpoints.
Jesus Christ.
You just have to accept the double standard that exists. Killer slugs last survivor and lets them bleed out survivors get pissy about you wasting their time, but they have no issue wasting your time by standing in the exit gate so they can bm you.
-
Mending honestly shouldn't be influenced by perks in anyway. It's a flat time sink if you tank an endurance hit and it allows killer powers that inflict deep wound to be a reliable form of slowdown.

I'm not playing and I've requested a refund. Now I'm stuck with a game that is horrible that I've sunk lots of money into, and on top of everything else I have people with attitude telling me I'm not even allowed to complain about it. Well guess what, damn you, I'm complaining. I hate this.
That's literally how buying games is. You buy a game, you play the game, then you stop playing that game to play other games.
You are not owed a refund because you are done playing a game.
If you want to complain about the game go ahead. But if you want to justify rage quiting a game because you can't get a refund or you are not finding the game as fun anymore than don't be surprised when people who are enjoying the game don't like that you are ruining their matches.

Like I said killers will be stuck with nothing but SWF here soon and then they will back to crying on the forums until the devs give in and give the killers another major buff. Why should anyone stick around in a game if they know its a loss?
If the game is so terrible then stop playing. Like you guys spend so much time trying to justify rage quiting when you could be playing anything else.

Man this community is really trying to kill the game or just make it so killers are only playing against SWF. Keep telling people to not play the game and new players will stop coming because they wont feel like they even have a chance to get good at the game. Casuals will stop playing because you keep telling them they suck at the game. This game is gonna die now and its mainly because this community and game is terrible to new and casual player.
I'm telling people who are not currently enjoying the game to stop playing instead of rage quiting their matches.
Survivor queues don't need to be diluted with people who have no intention of playing the match out.

You paid for a game, you played it, and now you aren't feeling the game anymore. That happens. There's plently of games I've brought that I just stopped playing and I never once thought I deserved a refund because I decided I was done playing a game I had purchased.

The devs are not encouraging d/cing, because you get punished for doing so.
This topic just screams entitlement. You can no longer coast by on perks that were overtuned and are now crying about how the game is too hard and that somehow justifies you being able to d/c out of games.

a) the game has become too killer sided
b) I just keep dying like 10 times in a row, and I'm not sitting around for this
If you truly believe the game is too killer sided, then you are simply not that good at the game.
Then just go play a different game. Stop being a person who d/cs because they don't want to improve at the game they are playing.

Survivors are not d/cing for any valid reason.

It's the same thing as in it's wasting time yes, but the killer can stop that time wasting by holding W for literally 10 seconds, a survivor can't do anything for an entire 4 minutes, but yea they're "totally the same".
Just like an apple and orange are the same because they're both fruits.
If you want to defend survivor toxic behavior go ahead, but you can't complain if killers behave toxic
-
@Seanzu said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3118169#Comment_3118169
It's not even close, one has a counter, the other does not - how are you comparing something that can be forcibly stopped to something that one has no control over. You'd have to be severely biased to think 2 minutes that can be ended in 10 seconds by the side it's against is the same as a 4 minute forced bleedout with no counter.
It is the same thing. If you don't like one side wasting time for the sake of wasting time, then you should not like either side wasting time for the sake of wasting time.
If you sit around in the exit gate as the last survivor left you have no right to complain about being slugged until you die.
-
@Seanzu said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3118164#Comment_3118164
Exit gate standing can be countered, and only lasts 2 minutes, an entire team of four people bleeding out for 4 minutes is not the same, lol.
It's exactly the same. Both are wasting time for the sake of wasting time.
-
It's funny how survivors always defend waiting in the exit gate til the very last minute, but will get upset if a killer slugs the entire team until they die.
-
Unfornately DBD is a live service game so BHVR is free to change their game as they please without needing to provide you a refund.
-
I find Dredge not being able to teleport to lockers near the hook to be fine. I can still teleport immediately after a hook unlike Artist who can't just place birds to attack other survivors due to being close to a hook (which also makes her clunky to play on maps like midwich at times).
I'm with powers that allow you to use the power button near a hook, but restrict the effect. Like PH trails disappear really quickly but he can still use his power.
Ones that lock you out completely from using the power often just feel bad at times.
If it was consistent across all killers it would be less of an issue, but conceptually I don't like making killers feel clunky as a means to counter camping.
-
Nurse is by far not the easiest killer in the game. I don't know how you could think she's remotely the easiest killer in the game. She has the highest skill floor out of the killer due to 100% needing to use her power for hits. You can argue she's not the hardest killer in the game to master, but that is a different discussion.

The killer reaction seems to be the opposite. So far the killer comments appear to be leaning toward saying things like “I’m actually impressed when someone uses Dead Hard now.” Or at worst they say the new version doesn’t bother them. I don’t think there’s been any serious complaints about it being broken.
It also helps it's not on every single survivor back to back now.
Old dead hard didn't really bother me until I started seeing it on every survivor which then became really grating to play against.
Plus inflicting deep wound is a still something even if they don't go down.
-
So what fog whispers have d/c'd on steam and didn't get a penalty?
It's one thing to say they can and another if they are actually doing so.
-
Not every employee at BHVR is working on Dead By Daylight you know.
Companies tend to split their developers into different teams that work on different things. Besides you wouldn't want every BHVR employee working on dead by daylight, because adding more programmers to a code base doesn't solve issues.
-
Only one of the new tiles is actual unique. The other tiles are already existing tiles on other realms reskinned for MacMillian.
The actual new tile has been a bit to get used to since it's just a different kind of flavor on the LT walls, except the windows are 90 degree from each other.
I don't think there's anything wrong with them and honestly just having different variety of tiles is a bit refreshing considering the tile variety has been lacking on that map compared to the other 3 OG realms of Autohaven and Coldwin Farms.
-
On your 2nd point, the devs have been making it that extra health states as a survivor come at a cost of deep wounds. This is good for balance reasons since it means that the killer still gets something out of the hit. Plus it helps prevent stacking extra hits.

I agree, that challenge for this Tome was a nightmare, once a team knows Dragon's Grip is on a gen after screaming, they won't ever touch it again. 80 seconds is such a long ass cool down for the 30 sec timeframe for them to tap the gen or you get 0 benefit
You can just play Myers/Ghostface or run other expose perks and get the challenge done. You don't have to down survivors with expose from Dragon's Grip itself for the challenge.

Gens take 90 seconds with no slowdown and no speed up. Even a very mediocre to bad killer can win a chase start to finish in that time. Then if they happen to go down in the wrong place, it's "boom boom" and you lost 25% progress on your gen and it's blocked by DMS.
I'm not talking about killers that can't even land M1s, I'm talking about killers that let shack window get vaulted three times and then complain that survivor is OP.
I really don't like the idea of players being carried by perks. It's quite boring and frustrating, like you're playing a trading card game and you're losing to someone who has never played before because they're using their brother's $5,000 deck.
The perks you are complaining about only help the killer if they are playing better than you.
Also for the gen to lose 25% regression, it would have to be hit by eruption and pain res. Eruption incapacities you for 25 seconds so it's highly unlikely you'll get hit with pain res for it to get auto blocked by DMS since a killer can't carry a survivor longer than 16 seconds before they wiggle out.
And I'm not talking about killers who can't even hit m1s. I played against an artist post 6.1.0 who chased me for about 2 gens (hitting me twice since I dead harded one of their hits), before they gave up and tried to chase my teammates until they eventually got their first down at 1 gen left. Being able to apply 25% regression to a single gen at that point in the game wouldn't have helped them. They spent too much time trying to get their first down that we had much more time to finish the last gen.
You can think "bad" killers are being carried by perks, but the truth is that these perks only perform well when the killer is playing better.

That's kind of half my point, I suppose. A killer can play very badly and still 4k simply because they buy themselves so much extra time. It's like survivors stacking second chance perks last patch: despite actually being really bad, they still win by virtue of "out-perking" the other team
They really aren't though. If you are seeing gens losing a ton of progress to pain res, surge, or eruption. Then the killer is getting downs frequently which means he's winning chases faster than you can finish gens. In which case he gets rewarded.
If the wraith was truly bad at chases, you can easily finish multiple gens between the few chases he has.
I've played games against killers who were legit bad at chases and they end up with 1-2 hooks by the time all 5 gens are completed.
