We're aware of the problem and working on it. The fix turned out to be more complex than expected, so it's not slated for the imminent release. As usual, I can't comment on when it will be fixed, but we will definitely fix it.

Oh, so when devs specifically state something is or isnt supposed to work that way, is a tech or an exploit, we cant really trust their word.... good to confirm this!

Not that I think it should be a viable strategy, but still.

BHVR doesn't really only care about newer players. They are just really bad at writing patch notes. When did Doc get nerfed?

I'll make sure to run Unbreakable and DS juuuust for you :)

Likely because when a survivor DC's everyone still has the option to follow their lead and DC as well or stick it out in a handicapped game. When the killer DC's at least the game ends immediately and no one has to deal with a handicap game. I don't mind too much when a killer DC's because at least I'm not put into the position to decide to DC or play it out. Just my two cents on the matter.

Even as survivor you shoupdnt decide to DC or play it out. You play it out.

Dont be a child, if you queued up, play the damned game. Someone else DCs, and the games a little lopsided. Sure. But what makes it even worse? When another leaves. Then another.

Tl;dr: dont hit "find game" if you unwilling or incapable of finishing the entire match, regardless of outcome. Its selfish and childish.

They already have penalties, less bloodpoints and high derank probability...

Exactly, op got 4 gens done and maxed out chase BP in 5 min. They won. Period. Even if they died.

They out in WORK and got the bp for it. The people doing nothing? Lost a pip and wasted their own time.

Too many people expect 4 randoms to work perfectly and make sure everyone gets full points AND escapes. That's not how it works. Sometimes you do well, and sometimes you're the bait. But if you do all the work, it doesnt matter. You earned it.

I'd rather have a 20/25 min game where I do it all and die, than 4 back to back first kill tunneled games where my 3 teammates get gens done while I die on hook.

  • I just did lol. I knew it was a rough attempt getting through, but I didnt know it would be THAT rough.

Well then you didn't earn it, cause you didn't find them.

Now imagine that if the hatch didn't spawn. Read what Peanits said.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1006721#Comment_1006721

That is the counter play... Finding it first.

If you just stand there and do nothing they escape... so you better find it first.

Wow youre....oblivious. Telling someone to KNOW the outcome of RNG before it's even implemented that game, as a counterplay....oof.

Especially considering if you're on opposite sides of the map and it spawns under the survivor, there is no way to counter luck/RNG from 100 yards.

"Find it first is the counterplay" is like saying "dont get seen by spirit" is a counterplay. Or "dont let the killer hook someone" is a counterplay to BBQ.

I'm out. Good luck, mr or ms brick wall.

  • @then4321 said:

To all the baby killers out there who are whining about the Ruin change, I think you are forgetting that it's a Hex totem. It's a TOTEM people!

Why are you complaining like it slowed down the entire match? "Oh poor me, I can't kill a single survivor without it, what will I ever do???"

In 80% of my survivor matches, the totem is broken in the first 30-60 sec. Now the killer lost their perk for the rest of the match, nothing, zip, nada.

I play killer as much as I do survivor. I stopped running Ruin about 4-5 months ago because of that exact reason, what good is Ruin if it's gone in a minute.

You can still moan about it if you want, but you do not know what you're moaning about.

Considering it helps early game, setup killers, like Hag, who it CAME OUT WITH, and now does not, it being a totem doesnt change that fact. Even 45 seconds of ruin active can help a hag or trapper set up a few traps.

Even then, most people are more upset at their logic behind the change, and biased wording of said logic, while they also ignore how fast games go if survivors simply work on gens.

The change itself wasnt the biggest issue WITH the change.

  • @TheBean said:

Should have slugged the 3rd to get the 4th.. Don't complain just cause you weren't good enough to get that last survivor in the 4 minutes it took for the 3rd to bleed out.

    The hatch has counter play.

You aren't entitled to have a 4K... You have to earn it.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/983/2MRK70ZZEPJ9.png

The hatch doesn't have counter play. Especially at 0 gens since you dont even see it yet. It could LITERALLY spawn under the killer or survivor.

Even if you did, what counterplay is there?

    Finding it first?

Wasting 4 trapper traps on it so they can still wall around them?

Slug to look for it? And then sit on it while they heal the downed slug?

Theres no counterplay, because it's not a play to begin with. It's a literal random exit, to help end the game before someone decides to sit for 45 mins.

Survivor finds it? They leave. Gg.

Killer finds it? They close it, EGC starts. Gg.

It does what it should, but saying "just counterplay the hatch" is a bit ridiculous.

  • @sneakymeghead said:

    According to devs:

    • 2K, 2 escapes is a draw game (and what they want)
    • 3K and obviously 4K are a win

So, you had a game where you clearly won and you still complain ?

These crying baby killers ... .seriously ... !

See, theres no need to be rude about it. That logic is just wrong, and you're being an ass to boot. They didn't put the hatch at 0 to balance a 2k 2 escape. At all.

They put it in to help mitigate when 3 survivors die with no work, and the last survivor HIDES FOR 45 MINUTES, because they're afraid to work alone.

Is it a free escape? Of course.

Is it better than the alternative 45 min standoff? Absolutely.

Just as the EGC stops hatch standoffs. It serves a purpose without any thought of "this side needs a free chance to win" for either side. It's a game length tool.

Bodyblocking is not bannable, period. It doesn't matter if it's a survivor blocking a killer from getting a hook or a killer blocking a window or a pallet to get a hit. It's all fair game.

What is bannable is holding the game hostage. This can include a killer blocking a survivor in a corner so they cannot leave. It would apply if a survivor managed to block a killer in a corner as well, although that's fairly rare since the killer can hit the survivor.

Short version, bodyblocking is not bannable, holding the game hostage is.

    Thank you.

Yes, they are completly changing it. Then they will look at the state of the game and decide how much do they have to nerf toolboxes and gen speeds.

    Thats what they said.

They are not going to revert ruin changes. Gens are the culprit, so they will change gens, not ruin.

That's my point. If the gens are the problem, why say "we need to change ruin yo see that". If they know, or believe, just disable the perk and prove it.

I literally said they can prove its gens, and not that ruin was a problem, and they wont change it back.

Because they INTENDED TO CHANGE RUIN BEFORE CONSIDERING GEN TIMES REGARDLESS OF THE ISSUE.

Your quote "gens are the culprit, so they will change gens, not ruin" is 100% false. Theyve already changed ruin.

Also, wheres the quote on them saying that they're looking at gen speeds after the change? Someone else claimed it in another thread and theres still no link.

  • Rarely. But usually when I see a steve I let them die or target them, as every one I've seen teabags and lets me die on hook.

But no, thankfully the wave of ST fanboys has subsided. Now its Ninjas time.

  • @Archimedes5000 said:

Whats the point of this ######### wall of text. Please enlighten me.

Devs removed ruin so that they can have a look at the gens and see if its really true that they are going too fast.

Nurse is still the 2nd strongest killer, Spirit is still the strongest killer. Oni flick is getting fixed to be 90° instead of 360° or 0°. Doctor rework is actually a buff, despite the bullshit in the patchnotes, you can't counter him by going to lockers, because you don't know when he will use the ability (this is not BBQ). All delays and cooldowns are getting fixed too.

If that was true, they could just disable ruin temporarily. Completely changing it says they're changing it.

If it turns out gens ARE the culprit, you think they're going to revert the ruin changes? LOL.

Wait...we shouldn't reward people for playing the game a lot? Isn't it better to encourage people to play more often? I've always been a grinder. I play this game a lot and try my hardest every match in solo survivor. A lot of the games I play reward you for grinding a lot and putting in a ton of effort.

Grinding is fine in grinding progression games. You have somewhere to grind to, or for. 1v5 pvp has no progression other than your matchmaking rank.

And rewarding for playtime is good too. Daily logins and whatnot are awesome bonuses. Simply requiring you to put extra time in every day altering your playstyle, is not a playtime reward.

The rank system as is isnt a rank system. So rewarding for rank 1 would literally only make you play the game more than you wanted to, for a (######### or even nonexistent) reward that you dont actually earn, but are given because you decided to play an extra 2 hours a day instead of X y z you normally would. It's a bait tactic, like battlepasses, to sucker you in to wasting more time.

If rank was ACTUALLY A RANK and not just matchmaking, lasted longer than 30 days, then maybe it would be a reward, but as is, it would be a participation trophy used as ######### bait.

Omg this!!! After seeing the posts and complaints from people who are pressed over the ruin change, I actually hope they do leave the game. They take it way to serious, seem very toxic, and entitled. I’d rather they do stop playing. In a way, the ruin nerf could clear a lot of really toxic killer mains and be a blessing.

Nice way to not be toxic like all those people you want to leave.

If you dont have anything to add to the discussion, targeting the person who started the thread isnt going to help. It just makes you look salty and pissy about something and you following them around making it personal.

    Maybe try another thread?

Or a different forum? I hear theres a great knitting forum on reddit.

Survivors complained when self care got nerfed. Were told to adapt. The no heal meta was born and adrenaline got chose more. They adapted.

Survivors got pallet amounts nerfed. They got told to adapt. Pallet looping grew into an even bigger meta.

    Exhausion perks got....well.....exhausion.

Gen speeds were nerfed in the games first year by having 10 seconds added to completion at the same time hook sabo got nerfed. Tool boxes then got used mostly on gens. They adapted.

Something tells me killers will be and do just fine with the ruin changes. And no one that quits over it will be gone long. They rarely are.

Killers have adapted before. Every time the survivors got a good change and told the killers to do just that.

This is more about the decision behind it, them not looking at real issues, and idk, blatantly saying they're fixing things bc of fun and frustration, and not high end game balance.

Killers adapting to tough changes can and has happened.

The roadmap mentioned rank rework initiatives, not necessarily rank rewards.

So like I said to the other, it was plastered to mislead us about the aforementioned and previously talked about rewards.

But at least it will be...reworked....again...to still serve as a matchmaking tool and not a rank...

At least we have confirmation on that.

  • Your first point, endgame and hatch, is not a killer buff.

That's more about ending standoffs and holding the game hostage, ON BOTH SIDES, not as a help to killers.

  • Well you see, it says: Rank Rework "initiatives".

Making me think it was there to give us some false hope about it . initiatives could mean they start talking about the possibility.

I think they plan to rework rank, but never intended on rewards, just good "plans" on the roadmap to placate.

"They made so many mistakes, they didn't do x, y or z!"

Which is the point and problem. A killer has to do almost perfectly and rely on survivor mistakes at red ranks. Lots of survivor mistakes means easy killer games.

Can confirm he's former R1 actually. The problem is he simply 4ks too quickly, and gets punished for playing optimally, so no, it's not bs. If you want to touch on his survivor experience, we've done SWF before and I've watched as he's looping, and I"m the only one on gens while the other two survivors are hiding in a corner playing immersion simulator. It's absolutely pathetic.

No offense, but one unknown forum goer speaking up for a friend doesnt sell me on this. I could have someone hop on and tell you how I 4k with no perk/addon nurse, but it wouldnt make it true or believable from one person saying "I've seen it".

Doesnt matter how fast you kill at rank 20, or how bad your survivor teammates are if you play well, you still pip up way too easy to be "stuck" at rank 20.

If it is true, they're boosted. Ex rank 1s dont get stuck in rank 20 after resets. Not unintentionally.

So to start this off survivors have been given an easy time for ages now and this is thanks to the Devs making it much easier for them and much harder for killers.

Btw to those saying I'm a killer main i actually play currently more survivor so trust me I know how annoying noed is.

But if I cannot slow gens down thanks to Ruin being nerfed into the dirt I'm going to focus near the end game for points instead. I'm sure I'm not the only killer that is going to be trying a noed/blood warden approach now that ruin is useless.

I do apologize to those survivors who can hit skill checks and do learn the game to get better but this is the reality of the game now. If killers have an almost impossible time in red ranks we are going to have to start using more irritating perks

To be fair, those that can hit skill checks, generally know where to look, and destroy totems before endgame.

But I understand where you're coming from. They want hexes to be late game, then let them be! Noed gang!

We've mentioned it a bunch of times, but after this update, we'll be able to see how things typically play out without a perk covering it up and make adjustments if needed. Not necessarily a guarantee that gen times will change, but we aren't just dropping this update and moving on. If we find that we need to make a change, we will.

I wonder why so many games had that perk "covering up" actual gen issues.

Perhaps because gens went way too fast without it?

Shame we change things based on statistical usage and not the core cause of the symptoms.

  • @Archimedes5000 said:

Of course. And of course I'd vote yes that I believe a change I'm so vehemently for, even after trying to defend it in an entire thread about it , while people are pointing out genuine issues which I continually ignore because I'm "confident in these changes".

That kind of confidence in the hands of people MAKING the decisions, shouldnt vote on a poll intended for people playing the game that actually understand it. Especially when said person is struggling to not drown in defending said changes.

Of course, they dont listen to feedback or polls regardless, so hell we may as well get M Cote and Ochido on the vote.

  • I'd like to point out, that your childish whiny rant misses the main point. They're not mad about the changes themselves for the most part. They're mad about the logic behind it, lack of knowledge of WHY 80% of killers used it, and their clearly survivor sided terminology, which furthers the notion that killers get forgotten when balancing around "fun and frustration", which is a stupid thing to balance around in the first place.

I said this before, and I will say it again. You really, really better hope you guys are right about this belief because these words could come back to haunt the devs hardcore if the change ends up backfiring.

They dont have to be smart to be confident. They can 100% believe they're right, with a wrong choice.

  • @Almo said:

This is why the Gatekeeper emblem was changed with Ruin. In terms of emblem points, it's no longer important to keep 5 gens up the first two minutes to get all those points.

In terms of the game's power curve, it's expected the first couple gens go fast. 4 Survivors, one Killer... several chases to get one Survivor out. But as the number of gens to patrol decreases, it becomes easier for the Killer to patrol, and their power rises. As the Survivors die off, the Killer's power increases more as there are fewer Survivors to work on gens.

Old Ruin gave people who depended on it the idea that it should not require input from the Killer to keep the first couple gens from popping in the first couple minutes. But that is not how we intend the game to work. My apologies for leaving old Ruin in place as long as we did; it was hard to find a good update, and we knew there would be a huge outcry from the players when we did the change, no matter how good it was. The moment I joined the project in August 2018 I knew Ruin was something I wanted to change. It took a lot of time and a lot of discussion with the other designers to find something worthy to replace it.

New Ruin requiring Killers to act in order to get its benefit is by design. Its lack of large impact in the first minutes is by design. Its subtlety is by design (by subtle I mean that one of its large benefits isn't mentioned in the text: no need to spend time kicking gens). Because we recognized Ruin's impact on the Gatekeeper emblem and Killers' ability to pip, we made the alteration to that emblem.

We can easily understand players' frustrations with this deep change to one of their core tools. But the opinion of all of us on the design team is that the new Ruin will make the game healthier overall. Our willingness to stand by it in the face of such anger over the change is an indication of our confidence in the new design and the benefits it will have in the long run.

Like the hatch gives people the impression they dont have to do anything or help anyone to escape?

When are we looking at all things "frustrating and skill-les", and not just those for new survivors?

Just because DbD isn't an esports game doesn't mean balance is not important. It most certainly is.

I'll give you an example, which is Star Wars Battlefront 2. That game is more casual than DbD. There is no rage quit penalty. There is no ranking system at all. Veteran players can get matched with total noobs.

And yet, the devs still view balance as an important responsibility. Many of the game's elements have been adjusted over the years.

So what you just said holds no water. You're basically saying just try and have fun despite all the nonsense in this game. Sorry, but a lot of people don't want to do that.

We like to start each match knowing that the odds are relatively even.

Then play a competetive game. This isnt that.

I also play battlefront 2. And I also enjoy it. Even when palpatine could hide outside the map. Or boba. Or the glitched saber #########.

It also re fills games with people, has larger lobbies, and isnt ruined when one person quits. Its not reliant on 5 people sticking to what they clicked on playing. It has ROOM for leniency in balance. 40 people vs 5 is a tad different.

    Because it's a game.

My argument holds water, because this isnt competetive. It doesnt have to be e sports to be competetive. This is a glorified cat and mouse simulator with horror elements. Period.

As to all the people who cant have fun despite the nonsense, because they wa t a perfectly balanced competetive game: go try something else. I hear civ 6 is pretty well balanced.

  • Because they likely wont change their mind, and doing a poll would only have people saying: "wE SaId It wAs TrAsH, Y u No LisTeN???"

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/993259#Comment_993259

How can you enjoy playing the game when the balance is still poor?

That's basically saying I don't care if the odds are incredibly stacked against me.

And I'm not just saying that from a killer's perspective. Survivors can experience the same thing as well.

Because, I play both sides and understand it's not a competetive game.

I enjoy running from the killer, trying to hide and escape.

I also enjoy hunting survivors, acting like a miniboss in their game.

Play it for what it is, and it's rather fun. Playing it to try and be the best of the best in a system that has no actual rank, is silly.

I get some people do like to do that. I usually do as well. But this game has a fluctuating balance and no ranked mode. So getting upset about other people trying hard or not carrying their weight in a game that has no consequence is, as I said, silly and frustrating.

Plus if you do actually do well with poor odds, it feels better knowing it happened because of your intuition, rather than some deep rooted need to have to do well to enjoy the game.

    TL;DR : fun =/= winning

Because some people enjoy playing the game. Not trying to win every game, or feel the need to prove they're better than others. Some of us just, get this, it's weird, ENJOY PLAYING THE ######### GAME.

Same, a partial reason why I haven't tried to read many of the arguments or see the new data is I don't want to be biased one way or the other when the update releases

I stand a better chance of getting some perspective if I go in without anything

But also yeah I main Corrupt Intervention so basically, this patch really doesn't affect me. Except for the Doctor hes one of my mains

Not partaking in the debates is one thing, but not reading the patch notes for yourself is only leading yourself in blind.

  • No thank you. But there's the door if you're interested in leaving instead of trying to spread discourse amongst those who enjoy the game.

  • Oh look, another post trying to correlate an artistic design team and mechanical issues that would be handled by a game design/coding team.

Even though they're two different groups of the company, surely telling one to stop doing their job would make the other work better, right?

  • So you're an ex rank 1 player, who cant manage to play good enough on your own to pip at rank 20?

Sounds like a load of bs to me. Even playing well and dying first at 20 would get you a pip, or two, and advance you to 19.

Rank 20 killer is even easier to pip. I know, I went in as nurse with a bs build after coming back and got a 4k with no addons. Its rank 20. Unless you afk, you basically guarantee a pip, if you were playing like an actual rank 1.

Unless you just hid and died every game. In which case I doubt you were rank 1...

  • Because they're old terminology.

Also, slightly/considerably etc is different based on the actual metric were talking about.

Slightly longer healing may be more time added than slightly more frequent bleeding.
