Why is there a PTB if BHVR pushes the changes that get criticized heavily regardless?

Too lazy to playtest for bugs on your own?

  • Because it explained the changes to players that payed any attention and it let the devs playtest on that massive scale. Doctor rework turned out to be fine despite the bad explanation in the patch notes.

  • Have they pushed out the changes from the PTB already? I must have missed the patch. Weird that there are no patch notes available for it yet.

Massive scale? Let's not kid ourselves.

Besides that, most people in PTB arent actually testing new changes out as much as using high end addons and perks to try and break the game/######### around with no consequence.

  • I don´t actually think ruin changes will go live.

That would remove the only "temporary aid" for gen speed that they have.

Even 1000 people is a massive scale compared to 10... Especially for bugfixing. People go to PTB to see new changes or to abuse the game. Both are fine. First get information, second find bugs.

Ruin changes will go live, because devs cant nerf toolboxes/adjust gen speed/adjust early game balance without seeing the statistics without old ruin. Thats what they said

  • The PTB is to allow people to help the devs test upcoming changes and tweak things along with trying and catch more bugs before pushing it to live by having a bigger pool of players.

If the devs took reactionary feedback on the forums into consideration as a basis for removing a change on the ptb no change so far would ever have been made live.

I believe he's talking from previous experience.

Legion, MoM, Nurse base kit, Oni flick.

If I'm not mistaken, people told them there's something wrong with these things during the PTB and they ignored it.

  • To bug test on a large scale, something 10-20 devs can't accomplish. As well as see what unintended side effects these changes have that devs overlooked and players can find/exploit.

People are generally really dumb in this game. They can't just trust players like other games do. Dbd has no indication as to whether or not a player is actually knowledgeable and really good or not. Rank one means nothing and is just a time grind. Games like LoL/Dota/csgo can look at the highest rank players and pros to get ideas because those players have proven themselves. Not many people in dbd can prove that they are worth listening to in that capacity. The devs have to take everything with a grain of salt

There's also a huge amount that they haven't ignored. it's simply not true that they don't listen to negative criticism from the PTB, just because they don't do everything that the players say. Mutliple adjustments made to the Oni's power (including, but not limited to, the flick, which was commented on in the PTB and nerfed accordingly, although they admitted the nerf was too far and have now adjusted it in the new patch), the Demogorgon being able to break pallets with Shred, the BOP/Deep Wound issue and doubling the nerfs on instaheals are a few notable recent examples.

  • Yeah I remember the self care buff attempt that, you know from the community testing and feed back, was prevented, yeah I forgot that was still in the game I guess /s

  • Its the devs own fault their game relies heavily on rng which makes rank mean nothing again. Their maps are rng making game quality very from ok to just bad like haddonfun killers rarely do well on it and the huge maps. They have no actual way of testing player skill as emblems are rng dependent and rank 1 is just a player putting in the hours of play to get there. Which also affects matchmaking because without the proper system for skill measurement matchmaking becomes nigh impossible to do.

Lmao like they care for bugs. They let game breaking bugs slip by anyways.

It's literally a TEST, people are supposed to try and break it.

  • So that they can they tested and listened to the people's thoughts.

  • The PTB is for bug testing on a larger scale and first impressions mostly. Yet sometimes it makes you wonder what the hell BHVR is doing in their internal testing ?

Remember the first week of Ghostface on the PTB where Night Shroud had a global sound cue on activation, his wind noise where 16 meters wide and he would be revealed instanly by vaguely glancing in his direction ? Somehow their internal testing thought this was fine, or they allready knew it wasn't fine but put it on the PTB anyway ? 🤔

Remember the Oni PTB where just from reading the patch notes, many players immedialty called that Deep Wound would be broken by Nemesis and the new Beast of Prey ? Could nobody at BHVR have seen this ? I refuse to believe it. Yet the PTB went on with the broken Deep Wound combos. 🤨

I don't doubt that BHVR only have the best intentions for the future of their game. But boy does it look like they have no idea what they are doing sometimes. And maybe its just an impression. Maybe there is method to the apparent madness. We just can't tell. 😐️

The issue is, there may not be enough killers left to test with. Survivor queue times are already huge.

I agree they are doing all the right things, the issue is, they are doing it in the most ridiculously wrong order.

It's definitely going through, ruin wasn't even mentioned on the player satisfaction survey. They knew everyone was going to explode about it, but they want to force a dramatic change in their game, and this will do it. I just wonder how it's all going to play out, and what their next step is.

It's not a matter of listening to everyone, which wouldn't be feasible, it's the fact that big things such as MOM slip through that makes people look at the devs with distrust.

And the latest dev update was so biased it only aggravated things.

I understand all of that, and if the argument being made here was that things sometimes go live which shouldn't, I would agree with it. But that's not the argument OP is making, they're saying that there is no point to having a PTB because the devs don't make any changes based on player criticism during the PTB anyway, or at least that they don't take feedback on the most heavily criticised changes, which is simply not true.

  • I will politely disagree with you here,

Op is probably frustrated with the devs decisions, and as such, the small rant about ptb feedback not being taken serious.

And I stand by my point, when big things such as MOM, Nurse base kit, Legion (who got gutted so badly that we now use the term "Legioned" instead of nerf) goes through PTB, you ought to wonder if the devs really care about the feedback.

Let's compare 2 recent nerfs. Spirit and Nurse.

Spirit got nerfed in the areas it need the nerf, and as result, the complaints about her nerf have ceased after a while.

Nurse was the opposite. It got an unwarranted nerf to her basekit, which people are still complaining about (complaining about the nerf), despite the negative feedback on the PTB.

Couple that with the fact that it takes them literally years to revisit the killers they nerfed, and you have yourself a recipe for frustration.
