Snowballing is when you made bad decisions so you lost really quick. I'll often let potential snowballs go because the survivors were just inexperienced. But when you all run toward me FOR ANY REASON, you are making a bad decision that might hand me the trial, sometimes shockingly fast.
Should Chess change the rules so that a quick checkmate isn't allowed? Only allowed to win after you let the other player goof around for a while? That does not sound exciting or fair.
Tunneling is usually a survivor that just refuses to make smart decisions. If you keep running back to that same place, so will I. That's not tunneling. If you try to take aggro for the unhooker, that's also not tunneling. How many times do I have to hook you to make you realize healing under the hook is a bad idea? God help you if you think you're entitled to heal up while I wait. Don't like being tunneled? Should'a ran.
You don't get it both ways. When a group plans to swarm or unhook in my face, take any risks, they have to be aware they'll probably not win. I make the same choice when I decide to play something wacky. I'm not expecting 4k with a Tier I Myers, I just wanted to get a few gen grabs. Should the rules change to help me win more when I'm choosing to play less-efficiently?
If a game mechanic is added to speed up bad players so they can escape, I'll show you tunneling. If you want the game to hold your hand, you have to play single player. I'm a human that also wants to play. It's silly to ask that the game cheat me to make you happy.
I know a lot of you survivors joined up thinking it's was a silly kids game, but there's some killing and stuff.

If you're getting 30 minutes, you dc too much. I get 30 right now, but I've been dealing with a connection issue, so I know I'm DCing too much. Takes a few DC's to get to 30 minutes. I understand leaving because of cheaters, but when you leave your teammates regularly, you're causing a problem. Bots are better than nothing, but you should have been better than bots.
So quit doing that. If you want out, be super altruistic and go out helping your team. It's not a big commitment, ten minutes.

I thought this would be a thread where we all get together to share our love of Dredge, coz I love Dredge.
If you want more Nightfall, spend more time in lockers. You shouldn't be patrolling on foot unless it's Nightfall or you have some deadzone to check. Otherwise, as soon as your teleport is ready, you should be using it again. Nightfall comes whether you're teleporting or not, you can chill out and let it build and maybe get a grab.
Locks mess you up in chase, so find them while patrolling and break them. Teleport specifically to find and break them, that's a great way to clear them out while building Nightfall.
I often bring caffeine pills, then I can see which lockers are locked and use that to track survivor activity. Also great for snagging survivors while they're on a locking-spree, just see where the yellow lockers are leading and be in the next one.
Keeping people wounded should be your priority. Wounding and hooking cause jumps in Nightfall, being in lockers causes a steady passive growth, but wounded survivors that stay wounded are the gift that keeps giving. With other killers I want that quick hook, but with Dredge I'd rather wound everyone and then go after the ones that heal up. The ones that don't are feeding me while they work the gen. If everyone heals, hit them everytime they touch a gen.
If you're doing this, Malthinker's isn't necessary, it will be just usually be about to happen. You can cover any map relatively quickly, even if you have to run to check a gen in an area with no lockers. Make them go to that gen and hit them there, or let them have it and end it's usefulness. The Dredge can really control a map even if areas are dead.
Jumping out of car trunks would be awesome.

Stealth is really not working on Xeno. Survivors are always putting turret next to gens. So there is no way to get surprise hits with him.
You're right, that didn't occur to me at all.
-
Nope. After it expires there's a 30-40 second cooldown. It's not cooling down while it's active, it's after the effect ends.
-
Someone mentioned how a thumbs-up from the other team should give a BP bonus. I think that would be healthy. I'd give it to everyone that wasn't obnoxious.
-
I am going to try a stealth-build on Xeno, been watching the movies and Xenos love to hide and be sneaky. Gonna try not to announce my presence so often.
Don't know if it will win, but if I get some jumpscares it will be fun.

If this is meant to be a game that is primarily played solo, and it's meant to be a fun party game instead of being hyper competitive, then the devs should take a sledgehammer to the worst offenders and then balance the game around what's left. Having a core component of the killer's arsenal being the ability to guarantee the death of the first survivor they find is bad design if the game is meant to be light hearted fun.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3533402#Comment_3533402
Why would you punish the person getting unhooked? They have no control over what their teammates do.
Because they decided to hang back and slow down the killer while the unhooker got away. Killers want the unhooker, you interfered and now you're the only one I have to chase. The unhooker is supposed to take aggro, your whole team is messing up and that's got repercussions . Also you're now teasing me with an early first kill because you'll probably come back to unhook whoever unhooks you.
Lighthearted fun is fine, so long as you're lighthearted about consequences. BT slows down the killer, but not if you give them the BT hit for free. Be lighthearted and run, it's also a game about getting killed. Still just a game, but you're supposed to run. The killer can make lighthearted choices, but survivors might get killed doing so.
It's not a bad game design at all, it's not designed to make you feel safe or let you get away with too much boldness. You're in progressively more danger throughout the trial, lighthearted or not, you have to play accordingly or you'll die.
No one's punishing you, killers are supposed to kill you. I feel bad if I'm too oppressive or feel like someone's dying too fast from bad luck, but I'm just playing a game where my main objective is to stop you. I don't care that much about winning, I'm not being sarcastic about lightheartedness, I wish all the players that seem to be upset all the time could be a little more lighthearted.
It's a fun game, lighten up, if anything in any game makes you upset, just take a step back and have a good laugh at yourself.
You're interpreting the excitement of the game with your instincts rather than your brains, it feels emotional because you felt danger, your body reacted and now that adrenaline has you pumped up. Feels like justified rage, you have to remind yourself it's not.
Lighthearted is the key. This game is exciting. IRL I don't kill people AT ALL. Too stressful, I don't even try anymore. Same goes for running from killers, I avoid them completely.
But this game isn't stressful so long as you can remind yourself that you're playing for the drama and excitement. Those things are why you come back, it's why you feel good when you get out. Take the good emotions as is, and realize the bad ones had no repercussions whatsoever. You rode a rollercoaster, get in line for another.
tldr: Everyone should be lighthearted about this game, but sometimes lighthearted decisions get you killed, which doesn't matter at all.

So many times players misunderstand what's happening in game, and it's easy to assume the worst when there are so many players that are the worst. My attitude changed a whole lot when I realized most in-game actions aren't as mean-spirited as they might seem.
I often brag that I'm at the point where I usually have a pretty good idea of what's happening in a trial, but that just means I'm confused less than I used to be. Most my slugs are completely accidental. I'm chasing someone and another cuts by me, I hit 'em. I didn't notice they were already wounded, I have no idea which player it was. After chase, I'll notice and go looking, but if they're hiding or just hard to find, I go on and let someone else find ya.
If you're on third-hook just because of bad luck, I'll often just start slugging you instead of hooking you. If a team is really clumsy, I might do that to everyone. I love getting to the 8th hook with no kills, that's when everyone's trying to play smart. I've had games where I did this and let everyone out, and one would be mad because they didn't understand I was winning while letting everyone keep playing and scoring. Can't please everyone.
Another thing, the whole hook-offering/Boil over/etc build, there's nothing toxic about making you bleed out if you're playing unhookable. No build should be an automatic win, that's the counter. I don't really feel strongly about it, I just don't like it when a survivor wins out over other survivors because of a trick, I think the best players should get out. If they're playing well, I don't mind, but they usually aren't.
But it's not toxic, you left me one way to complete my win condition, I did it. I would have rather hooked you 3 times, but it wasn't an option for me, I just had one option.
Survivors need to understand choosing to bleed survivors out for malice is toxic, no one gets any points, it's boring and sad. But that's the ONLY toxic form of slugging. If a killer is slugging you while there are plenty of players to pick you up, that is absolutely not toxic. That's a free pickup, an entire hook state, sorry it took 30 seconds, but it's a good thing that happened to you and your team.
I slug ALL THE TIME. It's a way to show someone they're still making bad choices despite me hooking them twice. You don't know enough about the game to realize I'm being cool to everyone. The only one that loses points is me, I'm not prolonging the game to make it boring, I'm risking it to keep it fun. Even if I'm toying with you, showing off how quickly I can get you, that's in-character for most the killers and I'm giving you points while being evil. Not toxic at all, it's DBD.
Anyways, I get that it's easy to see each other as enemies, but none of you are my enemies. Even if you're a complete a**hole in-game and after, even if you did everything that annoys me and nothing that doesn't, and worst of all: if you got away after doing so... not my enemy even a tiny bit. You're all just people that like to play the same game I do. I love to pretend to kill you, though.

We know the Entity entices killers whenever possible. There are lots of references to the Entity giving things to killers as rewards, etc. The entity also needs survivors to not feel hopeless, once they give up She can no longer be fed by their emotions and casts them into the void.
If the survivors have physical needs, The Entity has to be providing them. Even if they don't, I think they would need some downtime, even if they forget each trial. People break real quick when they don't have the little things. Emotionally, the survivors and killers have to have some of the things we consider normal when not in trial.
So what I'm saying is, even if the Entity could make them not physically need things, it would be better to let them feel hunger and eat than to remove the need to eat. If you're taken into a different reality, anything that makes you feel normalcy would be a huge comfort.
Just like most people enjoy eating, we like changing into clean clothes.
Imagine you're a survivor making it back to that campfire after a trial. There would be lots of emotions, but you'd probably look forward to washing up and changing into something clean.
So I think the Entity provides all these things. Silly outfits/new clothes raise people's spirits. It's a morale booster to keep everyone going as long as possible. Many cosmetics are given specifically for doing what the entity challenges.
I used to not care about the lore and just play trials, but it's actually pulling me in some.

If a survivor dedicates that much effort into hatch, they should have an advantage. When you dedicate a slot to it, it should stack the odds a little. Also, when survivors plan for hatch, that means they're expecting a 3k, which is a good sign for killer.
Killers that teleport can usually find the hatch by listening. I don't put much effort into it, though, I don't see much of a difference between a 3 and 4k. Either are clearly a killer win.

Because Spies from the Shadow doesn't reveal your exact location like UW does...?
UW doesn't either. You get a scream notification that goes away in a flash and gives you no info as to distance or what they're doing.
Run it with Darkness Revealed and you can see how inaccurate the scream is compared to an aura. UW just gives you a direction to run.
-
No, if you keep trying you will get better at it. I'm not a dextrous person, I don't play any other MP games at all. I never thought I'd be very good, but I enjoy playing so much that every now and then I impress myself.
I never memorize counters or best ways to loop/patrol/whatever. I'm lazy as sh*t. I got better because I've seen it hundreds of times. Survivors head to a gym, I know where they'll go, I know whether they can make the window, I usually catch them if they do a fancy move on a pallet. Just because I've done it many, many times.
If you're putting effort into learning, you'll learn. Even if you don't, just playing a lot makes you better. You do things and see things over and over, you get better at it. Failing is the only way to learn to succeed. Play for fun and it will get to be more fun.
I play on PC, I've always used a controller. Turn up your sensitivity to 100 and you can overcome the extra challenge.
-
I don't judge players by prestige anymore. It tells me some things. Not a baby, probably really likes that character, but it doesn't tell me who I'm playing. If anything, it tells me a survivor probably plays for points. They probably don't want to end the game early for the same reason I don't, it's hollow if I didn't get the points. Gen rushing is a like a snowball, wins you the game but neither side gets the payoff they'd get in a struggle.
Also, I've played against so many high-prestige players that were surprisingly average. I've prestiged killers I can barely play, so I've given survivors the same experience.
All it really says is that a player either plays a lot, or only plays that character.
-
I asked my doctor if I was dying, she said yes, but no faster than everyone else.
-
You have to do it to the hook the killer is heading to. It's a challenge, it's not meant to be easy.
edit: Also you sabo a hook at the right time, smart play. If you and your buddy team up to blind me and sabo, I'm probably going to prioritize killing you both real quick. It's just a challenge, but from my end it seems like you're working together to be obnoxious, that can make a difference in how a match goes.

I had one that wanted to play the shack during collapse. I'd break away like I was leaving, it would run, as soon as I moved to chase, back to shack. Even with a head start, back to shack.

Nowhere to hide is, in my opinion, the best perk on killer-side, because it has 0 cooldown
It was free hits at first, but now most survivors hide outside the radius. I had a gen-kicking challenge yesterday and only got value from it if I kicked the gen then saw the aura while I was moving.
Works great against guys that want to keep tapping the gen. Don't do that and you'll be fine.

When I'm Wesker I sometimes feel like I should let everyone escape after all that mean ######### I said to them.
-
I'm not being insincere in either case, I'd argue that many of us aren't.
I'm relatively dangerous as killer. Lots of us are. Experience and practice, that's not objective, I'm better than most players simply because I played more. This is the only multiplayer game I like, I'm sure all of you are way better at me at games you spent your time in, but my ability in the game is better than average.
If you play against me and don't give up, I very much mean "good game" because I can be oppressive. I know you did the right play, I stopped you because I expected it, not because you made the wrong choice. You can play everything right and I might still get you because I've played against it more times than you've played at all. You might be good at loops and pallets, but I've been doing it for years and know how to throw you off your game. I'm not just being nice, just because I win doesn't mean anyone played badly.
By that same token, if I lose and say GG, it's not meaningless at all. I mean it very much, you beat me at the things I'm good at, you know what you're doing and I hope to play you again.
I don't care that much about winning or losing. Brass tacks, if I have fun, everyone played a good game.
-
Absolutely not. The truth is, metas aren't fun at all, not for either side. If a perk becomes necessary, everyone loses a perk slot. Perks are way more fun now that I'm free to play with them. Weaker perks got stronger, OP perks got weaker. I wouldn't have voted for it if BHVR were a democracy, I didn't see a problem until it was solved. Neither side should win because of perks, it should be decided in-game by playing.
But I'm invigorated. I didn't know what it felt like to have four perk slots, BBQ and Chili existed and I just couldn't turn down the double BP. No advantage could offset that in my mind.
Now we can experiment, in the old days, a killer trying new things usually meant going in expecting to lose even if it worked.
I'm just all around very happy with both DBD and Behavior. I complained my fair share about the devs, but now I got nothing but love for 'em. I'm not saying everything's perfect, but overall, everything moved a whole lot in the right direction.
I honestly can't muster up any negativity. I had to completely redo every loadout, many of my old tricks no longer work, and I couldn't be happier about it.
Ok, I gotta quit wasting time here talking about it and get in the fog.
-
It's fun to make survivors yell and give you a direction to run, but that's all it gives you. This is not an aura or killer instinct, it's a notification you can hear and might be lucky enough to see if you're facing the right direction (it happens while facing a locker). If I do see it, I get no info on how far you are in that direction.
Also you're my terror radius away, that's not close. Like I said, it tells me which way to run, a little more than whispers, but less than most info perks.
The reason it's popular right now is it's fun, but it's not winning the match for anyone.

My complaint is that the TV notifies nearby survivors, the lullabye notifies nearby survivors.
Can't we have a little stealth for this stealth killer? Decent survivors are pretty aware of what's going on around them and if they're not, shouldn't a stealth killer be allowed a chance to capitalize?

Hey Seanzu, I came back to apologize for my earlier complaints. From my point of view your post seemed obnoxious because I really don't have a clue about how these things work, but you had no way of knowing that. I just try to get whatever points I can. I'm not going to just hide and make the boring match go longer than it has to. I'll sit on that gen until I get chased then run around until I go down.
Then depending on how South this South has gotten, I'll suicide on hook (if it's 2 v 1 or something with 4 gens left so literally zero chance to come back) or I'll play as normal, hanging around until someone saves me and go back to the gens.
From a killer that often faces teams I'm not capable of beating, this is the correct answer. I can often get more points losing against a good team than winning an easy match. You're not just playing to win, you're playing to get better and most importantly, BP.
Also I respect survivors that don't give up. I rarely give hatch since I rarely go against newer players, but the other night I put the 3rd survivor on deathhook and went looking for hatch, just as I heard it a gen popped. David wasn't looking for an easy out, he was gonna do those gens and strut out like a man. I didn't have the patience for that, so I chased him to hatch.
Respect, Topless David King.

So, the other list.
I'm going to exclude Legion and Ghostpants here, as they are getting a rework.
- The Onryo. Man, to see this killer released after the amazing work BHVR did on Artist...weak. Of the three components of her kit, only one feels impactful (and her teleports still have a punishing cooldown, super simple counterplay and a huge RNG component). Everything else sucks. Her stealth is niche at best and Condemn is about as impactful as a pillow stuffed with marshmallows. Her addons are also a mixture of 'why isn't this baseline?' and 'why bother?' with only a few decent ones.
- The Pig. Sigh. Her rework mostly amounted to shuffling a few addons around. She is the worst of both worlds - either horribly weak or required to play incredibly scummy to win. Also a lot of 'this should be baseline?' addons, particularly those involving her ambush.
- The Cannibal. Having a killer that feels mostly built around camping...not a great idea. Meh addons, annoying audio...at least he isn't quite as craptacular as he once was, but when facecamping gets fixed he's going to need some help.
- <> Myers is just saved from this list...just. Yes, he can be a very comfortable killer to play - but his basekit is weak and horribly outdated, and aside from Vanity Mirror (which may be among my favorite addons in the game), his addons are either ungodly broken and irritating (TSP) or crap. But yeah, Spoopy Myers is a blast to play and people seem to enjoy playing against him. Until they lose.
I was with ya, then you disrespected Bubba. It makes me question our friendship.
If not for Bubba, there would be much less to fear in DBD. Bubba makes being hooked something to fear, that makes it more exciting.
Survivors can counter camping Bubba if they choose to, they just can't do it by bodyblocking. You've got to either bait out a chainsaw so he has to let it recharge, bait a real chase and just lead him away, or do gens.
It's that simple.

I've been playing for many years, only killer.
And I have NEVER expected an easy 4K. They surprise me every time.

All I did was explain that they hide player names so you can't just ban them infinitely, not sure a hissy fit was involved.
How would I know if any streaming services allow cheating? I just asked you that question and you answered back with essentially the same question. Why would I ask you if I knew? If I don't know how they work, why would I know how others work? That's a perfect example of why answering a question with a question is considered rude.
And you were all defensive about the whole thing. I didn't know they hid their names, I assumed you could report the channel they're streaming on and that would stop them. Accusing me of "acting like it's so easy" is a very strange form of politeness. I don't feel I was acting like anything. Maybe I'm super-sensitive and you have great people skills.
But also I don't care. If you don't want to answer, don't. That's probably what I'll do if you try to continue this conversation.

Devs do ban, it's just often not enough for determined people, there's someone that streams as a hacker and they literally have a ban counter on their stream, last time I saw it, it was at 52/53
But your example is of someone who's constantly publicly cheating. That's like saying cops are willing to stop crimes 53 times if they happen every day in the same public place. It's not a ringing endorsement.
Does the streaming service allow cheating?

Well yeah would take more work though and making new UI. Would they do that?
I play solo and do alright with 4 usually depending on team.
I doubt it, but my main point is that it's bad to take something away from SWFs, better to balance by giving than taking.
And I'm not questioning your badassery, to be a happy solo player means you're probably tough as nails. But it's accepted as truth that the game is particularly hard on you guys, specifically because of SWFs.
I don't mind SWFs at all, but just because you and I are able to overcome the imbalance, doesn't make it fair, especially to newer players. A few exrtra BP isn't unreasonable.
-
It would be better if it went the other way. Solos and killers should have an extra perk slot when dealing with SWF. Communication is at least as valuable as a perk, but hamstringing SWFs isn't the answer.
Personally, I just think I should get a BP bonus to make up for their extra power.

Why would you talk to survivors after a match? There's never a situation where survivors aren't complete #########. Even the nice ones are entitled, "nice game but it's morally wrong for you to try to win." Being a good sport is something I've never heard of a survivor doing. Ever.

Long responses are always welcome! (Don't worry, I'm young and I don't pay much attention either.)
Fair enough!
I don't think my numbers are rocket-science based, CNN fact-checker backed, Twitter blue sticker, FDA approved and ready to go.
I mostly post these things to start conversation. See where everyone else is at
3% of Entity progress is just shy of 4 seconds.
80% is a little over 90 seconds.
There's a lot between 4 and 90 seconds though!
What would you, yourself, feel most comfortable with as added time to a perk like this? :)
20% would be a minute, essentially an entire extra hook state, almost a whole gen. I feel like that would be punishing enough to get value out of the perk. It's ok if something is potentially game-changing, but you can't make it definitely game-changing. That's the problem with CoH.
-
Those are crazy numbers, but otherwise I think it would be ok as a perk. I originally wrote a long response because I thought you wanted it as a game mechanic. I'm old and don't pay attention.
To give a perspective, a killer can can change basement hook speed like 3%. Messing with hook speed is a big deal, it would have to be way smaller.

Dude, killer is hard, but it's also awesome. The only way a new killer gets kills is if the survivors really screw up. ALL killers went through this.
You don't come into a game like this and just win. The skills you have from other games don't carry over into DBD much. You're being WAY too hard on yourself. I probably played 20-30 trials before I got a kill. I still play lots of games where I don't get any kills. That's just how it is.
Pyramid Head and Nemesis are two of my favorite killers, they're fun as hell and in the stronger category of killers. I don't think you should let negative comments make up your mind for you. I said to hang in there when I thought you were a survivor, but now that I find out you're also a killer, I really think you should hang in there.
It's a strange game, there's a meme where one guy says "DBD is fun" and the other says "No one that plays DBD would say that." But I play a lot, and I do think DBD is fun. I love playing killer, I would rather lose as killer than play something else.

What I meant is I just started the game and yet I'm matched with players over 1000+ hours. Maybe it is different here in Asia but it is just highly unfair for new players like me.
It is unfair, but that's how the game goes sometimes. I just consider it another challenge from RNG. Some games I can win, some I can't.
Try to look at matches like that as a learning experience. Keep trying, get points, learn. Every match is improving your muscle memory and teaching you what doesn't work. When you lose, just ready up and lose again. There's plenty to grind, you might as well get started.
This game is super-hard on new players. Super hard on most of us, actually. Hang in there.

I'd just like a chance to practice powers. I'm not a quick learner, I hate giving survivors no challenge while trying to learn to use something new.

If you want to penalize camping, do gens. YOU'RE the ones that decide whether my camping works. I don't camp survivors to death unless all the gens are done, and even then I'm not trying to kill the one on the hook, I'm trying to get the others. I'll always leave if given a reason.
Hiding behind a nearby tree gives me a reason to stay. Don't do that, you're literally telling me "go ahead and let them die, I'll wait".
Read the rules. Not only do the devs approve of camping, there are youtube videos of them doing it. Please don't speak for the entire community.

I'm not claiming Myers is the best, I'm just telling you who I prefer. Blight and Oni are both probably better, but I like playing Myers.

The original Decisive Strike is in the first Halloween. Michael picks up Laurie and I think she stabs him with scissors.

I love the movie, but I've never thought "It sure would be fun to be Regan!"
I already got my urge to puke on people covered by Plague, but it would be cool to turn my head around and chase survivors backwards.

Also crazy-ass bugs happen sometimes.
Once as Pig I put a hat on a Meg, then picked her up. Couldn't hook or drop her. She could wiggle, but couldn't wiggle free. We tried everything, all the other survivors and I came together to see what ridiculous things we could do to get Meg off my shoulder. Finally they did a gen and she jumped off to do the head-pop animation, but that was only after we tried everything else. First time I've ever been sorry to kill a Meg.
Best bug ever, though.
