The disparity between how efficient a good nurse and a good pinhead are going to perform against a good team of survivors is massive.
My point wasn't that Pinhead is as strong as Nurse
My point is that he's got a learning curve in a similar vein to nurse. You can't just pick him up and play him to his full potential
-
I think, in a similar vein to nurse - he's got a steep learning curve
You need to learn how to control the chains, the best time, place and way to use the chains during chase as well as learn the box spawning logic + the best time to teleport or the best time to drop chase and pester the box holder
He has one of the best (if not the best) 1 v 4 mechanic in the game, Chain hunts are an extremely powerful slowdown tool and the summoned chains do a lot to mitigate many pallet loops.
Many people thought Blight was weak on release and some time after, now most people think he's S tier.
-
I think there was some trivia around the original movies, something about originally Freddy was supposed to be/intended to be that but either Wes Craven didn't like it and changed it or Robert Englund didn't like it and it was changed
Something like that? I'm not a big NOES fanatic but I remember hearing about that somewhere

Ok honestly, I don't use hoarders on him. I understand the appeal but it is really a training wheels perk more than anything. Just having good map awareness on survivors really helps, especially since downing the box holder gives you the box and reveals all survivors, use that information to help determine the next box spawn. As for franklins, franklins is actually super helpful, he can get the box from a survivor in 1 hit instead of 2, but other than that, I still almost like it more as 2 hits, because that means I use the box on a survivor becoming downed, so I hook them and return to pressuring, it is a lot of pressure to the team. Don't feel pressured to use them though, if anything I would just recommend hoarders until you are comfortable with box spawns.
Yeah I haven't used them a single time, I prefer my own build but I've seen a lot of discourse surrounding those two perks and some people think Pinhead is only good if you use them with ruin/undying. (Which I also haven't been using on him)
However learning the box spawn logic thanks to Otz and the wiki is really nice, knowing that it's more likely to spawn furthest away from both killer and survivor (but closer to survs) is nice to have in the back of my mind.
-
are franklins and hoarder really necessary to play him well
I've been trying to main him and it feels like everyone pigeonholes themselves into using these two perks on him and it's boring
-
There's also some like, reverse power-creep shenanigans (I think?)
Why would anyone use something like Gearhead when Tinkerer exists
Gearhead requires 2 basic attacks, requires a survivor to ONLY hit good skills checks and ONLY in the time it's active
Or you just have Tinkerer which tells you exactly WHICH gen hit 70% and it gives you undetectable as a bonus. Wow.
-
Guess I'll toss my hat into the ring with some random ideas:
The Nightmare:
(Ultra-rare) Black Box:
- You become obsessed with one survivor
- The obsession does not hear the lullaby when they are asleep
- The obsession cannot exit the trial while they are asleep.
Kinda combined the two concepts of previous iterations. I really like the idea of an addon singling a survivor out and changing their gameplay a bit more than usual.
The Executioner:
(Ultra-rare) Obsidian Goblet:
- Final Judgement can be used on non-tormented survivors if they have reached the final hook state during the trial.
Would be broken as hell, but hey - it's just a dumb idea. It's basically just a built in ebony mori, but as an addon
-
His anti-loop is really good, best pallet destroyer in the game. Even better than Billy/Bubba
His zombies on the other hand...They need work. They get stuck so frequently on so many maps

Game is not balanced for Team play, it is balanced around 1 vs 1,1,1,1 NOT 1 vs 4/1 vs 3,1/1 vs 2,2/1 vs 2,1,1. There are too many perks negated by voice chat or vastly broken with voice chat. That is cheating. You cannot argue it.
You can think whatever you like about it, it's not changing the fact that:
- People SWFing are not on par with ACTUAL cheaters
- The developers do not have swfing/using comms listed as a bannable offense
- EVEN IF it were bannable, it would be impossible to moderate it anyway. Are you asking BHVR to start monitoring what software people are using? That's ridiculous.
Please don't come onto a thread asking for the devs to respond to the actual cheater problem and make it about SWF, there's a billion other threads on this forum where it's better off.
-
@[Deleted User] said:
They allow the ultimate cheat in the game, Voice chat. Refusing to balance the game around it. Why would you think they would even care about cheaters?
dude
playing dbd with your friends is not on par with using actual cheat clients to ruin the game for people
i get it. you hate swf, you hate discord but apples and oranges.

Escape based matchmaking makes more sense imo

Could be. The info I have is from a non-native English speaker who watches him. Sarcasim and nuance would slip by.
I saw a clip of Almo reading a message in his stream where someone went like
"Legion is still OP" or something and Almo, seemingly sarcastically went "oh yeah, maybe they shouldn't be able to vault pallets"
I'm sure it was sarcasm bc it was said a while ago and I feel like if they really felt legion was OP they'd have changed him by now.
-
Proof?
Please don't tell me it's the seemingly sarcastic response Almo gave a long time ago on stream.

Oh, yeah definitely. That's why the new system is so ass-backwards. It just doesn't make sense to put the 1v1 skill test as a non-objective. At least they give bloodpoints and pip progression though...?
We're on the same page then fellow forum goer, I agree with ya.

Hex totems take 24 seconds to bless.
ah, that may be my mistake
I thought they just made any totem take 24 seconds to bless

no. because no one has told me what MMR is yet. What is it?
you only gain mmr as survivor if you escape
you lose more if you die first, then you lose slightly less if you die 2nd, 3rd, 4th
hatch doesn't give or remove mmr
you gain mmr as killer for (shockingly) getting kills. I'm guessing the more kills = more mmr
and you only lose it if everyone escapes (I think?)

Hey listen
Running the killer for days is not the objective of DBD.
But do we agree that chases are the only thing in this game that take any semblence of skill (On both sides, mind you not just one or the other).

Well, the objective of the game is to survive, so I fail to see how that's "playing well." You died.
However I do agree with the sentiment. It's escape-based matchmaking and frankly is the previous system. Just with less meaning behind the colors.
Hey listen
If I run the killer for the whole game, but then I'm facecamped because all the gens are done - in what world does that mean I have less skill than my three teammates who (to their credit) did what they were supposed to do
I get that the objective is to 'survive' but then that's not SBMM that's EBMM.
Glad we agree on that
-
Escape based matchmaking
That's what this is.

Like Kratos once said:
"Keep your expectation low and you will never be dissapointed"
Or in the case of BHVR
"Don't have any expectations at all, in fact, let your expectations be absolute trash, and you will never be dissapointed"
Your username fits all too well.
I was hoping we'd get just a passing mention at the very least. 😔

How were they nerfed? If you do not mind me asking. I do not like Twitch...
Sure!
- Reduced their radius to 24M
- Takes 24 seconds to bless now
- They no longer stack
I think that's all the changes
-
No
It's not skill based match making, it's escape based match making. That's what I'm gonna be calling it from now on
A survivor playing well and dying so everyone else gets out/getting facecamped to death from the beginning somehow determines they are of lower skill than those who escaped in the match. It's BS

I did not know they did the Q&A. I check on youtube and i vould not find it does anyone know where i can find it im curious about how much of a dissapointment the Q&A is
You can watch the VOD on their Twitch I believe
Overall it wasn't terrible, but the lack of response about cheaters + Patrick's explanation of the MMR system overshadows everything else. It's incredibly disheartening.
Boons were nerfed, if you were curious.

@DelsKibara said:
Yeah. That was incredibly disappointing. FIrst Patrick's reasoning for MMR, and now this.
They basically confirmed what we already knew through the rumours, but I am also slightly disheartened by what Patrick explained about MMR and I'm probably gonna make another thread about that but this is what annoyed me the most about the whole thing. I'm sure many other people share the same sentiment.

What you're hearing is one of the Demogorgon's voice clips, in the audio there's a part near the end that sounds like one of David Kings grunts of pain.
Whether they took the voiceline and remixed it/they spliced it in - I don't think it's a bug.

My version of Undetectable would be:
- No Terror Radius
- No Red Stain
- Immunity to all detection and Aura Perks
- Footsteps and Killer breathing reduced by 50 %.
I take issue with this for one reason - Wraith
Now, I'm not on the whole 'Wraith OP' wagon, but his breathing/snarling is one of the few tells you have to know when he's close by. Reducing that will be a problem, imo due to the fact that he's completely invisible beyond a certain point, moves incredibly fast and has addons to further strengthen these 2 areas of his kit
-
Map: RPD will be killswitched again, I can feel it.
Killer: I'm gonna assume that the Pig video tape addon will get killswitched
Survivor: Babysitter/Guardian will have a bug that gives survivors permanent haste somehow, meaning this perk will get kill switched
-
I don't think so personally
Having an early warning that the killer is within a certain distance of me gives them little room to catch me off guard. Huntress at least has the strength of being able to damage you instantly from a distance if you're not paying complete attention.
-
Give your husband his weapon back, he's in a trial right now with only his knives and he's suffering
Jokes aside, really well done!
-
A lot of killers will respect it and wait it out. I'd say the best use case scenario is using the 8 seconds of the killer not hitting you to get somewhere like a pallet.
However you can also use it against killers that can hit you without line of sight - namely Nurse and Spirit. If a spirit's phasing, you might be able to use it and then once they gain LOS they'll hit you. Same with Nurse, if you go around a corner and a nurse blinks right on top of you, they usually won't think twice unless they are baiting dead hard or something.

The Q&A Stream is today, hopefully we get an answer on the cheating situation!

Personally I don't have a problem with the hoarder interaction with Pinhead too much, I'm not sure I'm the biggest fan of the precedent that it sets with perks being able to negate certain built in things about a killers power but in this particular case it's fine
Besides, good Pinhead players will learn the box's spawning mechanism and be able to find it themselves over time I think considering the spawn logic has already been datamined and posted on the wiki/a content creator has made a video about it already so the word is out.
ngl I think Franklins on Pinhead is kinda bs though. Not for strength related reasons, I just think forcing survivors to drop an item that they can't drop themselves is bad design and removes the counterplay Franklins has (aside from the obvious one).
-
It's basically just nea with the default/p3 head and the brown checkered shirt and dark pants
Typically 'comp x' usually just means as blendy as possible. That's why comp players pick Adam, Claudette and so on.
Ace too, with certain cosmetics
-
Gear Head
It's so forgettable I literally forget it exists 90% of the time
The only time I remember it exists is when Otz makes fun of it
-
The music is a big part of the game's identity I think
The game would be 10x more boring without it.
-
More flags would be cool! Lots of games have them.
I'd love a GB/UK Flag!

That's like me with any perk, I always find I need it when I'm not running it!
Bit off topic but I just noticed the forum tag changes, have you been promoted?
Congratulations if so!

Let's paint a picture
The best way for a killer to secure a big advantage in a match is getting someone killed off as soon as possible, as fast as possible. If decisive strike didn't exist, all survivors would have to help against tunnelling would be BT (Which, let's be fair - you can kind of counter by waiting out if you're nearby).
With no DS, there is NO risk to picking someone up who just got unhooked. Otz put it great in his video about Iron Will - DS, BT and Dead Hard condition how Killers play the game even when these perks aren't even in play. It's also clear that the developers recognise this because when DS got nerfed, they realised people might not run it as much so they made an obsession appear in every match regardless of perks.
Some ppl might not realise this but DS becomes its strongest in the endgame. It can create literal lose/lose scenarios for killer and guaranteed escapes for survivor.
On the flip side, eventually you will run into killers who plan to camp/tunnel someone out of the game the moment they can and DS will help mitigate that a little bit. If a killer wants you out, they will get you out eventually but every second you buy your team counts

Yea I’m the points guy, so it feels bad when I load into a lobby only to have someone leave immediately after, in fear that I won’t be a team player.
Survivors who do the whole babysitting thing can unironically cost their entire team the game
The killer goes from having one down about to be hooked, to two slugs.
I despise people who play babysitter with flashlights
-
I think Dexter (the serial killer one, not the scientist one) would be interesting
-
He had a rift cosmetic that was literally his default trousers with no changes at all
Talk about lazy
-
The way I see it there's three kinds of flashlight players
- The Clickers - these guys bring flashlights purely to click at the killer and blind them at pallets. They have no intention of trying to get saves. They also do the whole '2 man swf locker' thing that has no counterplay.
- The Babysitters - these guys bring flashlights every game and will neglect doing gens to babysit the person being chased and will attempt to flashlight save them only to get baited and slugged basically every time.
- The Points guy - these guys bring flashlights mostly to get extra boldness points, typically not trying to be toxic. They also bring flashlights in case they face a killer that's countered by them (Hag, Nemesis, Wraith). Will go for saves if an opportunity arrives but won't try to force it
-
DC penalty is currently active still, yep
-
Y'all aren't looking at the bigger picture
Dying in a trial is techincally escaping it because survivors are sent back to the campfire upon death
They got rid of the 'Death is not an escape' as well I think
-
They made that change because of SBMM/MMR
Each killer has their own 'MMR' so they don't let you swap between them while in que because they need to use your MMR for that specific killer
-
@Yords said:
Pretty sure it is RPD and midwich but whatever
What do you think makes midwich bad for killer?
Not sarcasm, genuine question bc from my impression of the map it favours killer a lot due to the sheer lack of any good tiles, it's small size (granted it has 2 floors) and the fact that the good windows are negated by breakable walls
I'm gonna guess it's just when gamers hold W?
-
That + Teleporting to someone solving the box when you have an insta-down active like Devour Hope.
Feels so devilish
-
i dunno, the swamp maps can favour killer in a lot more ways than survivor
RPD on the other hand...
