Regardless of whether players use DH because they find it fun or not, it doesn’t change its status as an overpowered perk. Whether or not something is fun doesn’t affect how strong that thing is. I’m sure DH is fun for a lot of players that use it and it’s extremely strong. Even weaker things can still be fun too. I love using Autodidact and find it fun even though I know it’s not good and usually not worth it.
That said, I disagree that it’s the main reason why it’s used so much. Players on both sides have been running full meta builds for years. Which perks meta builds consist of has changed over time, but DH is just one small piece of that. If DH didn’t exist at all, it wouldn’t stop anybody from just replacing it in their loadout with another meta perk, whether that be SB or anything else.
Take Blast Mine as an example. It’s fun to use it and watch the killer get stunned when they kick your gen. But it’s not meta because it isn’t actually super strong. It would get used more if it was more powerful, but it’d be primarily because it’s powerful, not primarily because it’s fun to use.
I mean, i think its quite rare that a perk is fun and strong, i think that helps.
I think what he is refering is that the success rate of DH probably not being that high, but people still using it.
I know that when i used it just gettin one DH use after a bunch of fails was the best feeling

After the major outcry and nerf of Eruption, next will be SH:PR. Calling it right now.
Hmm doubt. I see they nerfing Call of brine and overcharge over Pain resonance to kill the 3 gen meta for good.
And i wouldn't be mad, much prefer the design philosophy of Jolt, Pain Res and POP than those other perks. Stalling needs to die.

Eruption was nerfed by removing the incapacitated effect, which is what was unfairly affecting solo survivors. Similarly dead hard can be nerfed so it no longer works on M2 powers, which is what is unfairly affecting some M2 killers.
And just because someone has an M2 power that’s unfairly affected by dead hard, doesn’t mean that killer a “strong killer”. Trickster’s M2 power is unfairly affected by dead hard, and he’s not anywhere near the strong side of killers.
A few points:
The perk was busted against solos, weakest role in the game.
The perk was very good against SWF, if it wasn't then comp players wouldn't use it, but they did and they got caught by it
The strongest killers in the game are all M2 killers or killers that rely heavily on their powers
So why on earth would you nerf a perk to make it bad against the best killers but still the same against the worst? Eruption was too strong and was affecting more the weakest role in the game.
If M1 killers are that hot and DH is not a factor for them as people seem to be implying then you go all play M1 killers and see that goes
I would imagine that playing Nurse and Blight would still get you the win easier. Get hit by the DH and catch him in 10 seconds because your power allows you to.
So no, if DH gets nerfed it should be universal not just nerf it so the best killers get better, or bhvr could just add a new perk that inflicts Deep wound.

If you look at Vigil it reduces the time on all negative status effects expect incapacitated. If it's because well it then over powers certain killer peeks okay. Haunted Grounds causes the exposed status effect Vigil reduces the time on that. Blood echo does Hemorrhage and Mangled and that perk activates constantly but why doesn't Vigil effect incapacitated?
Also, small correction.
Blood Echo doesn't inflict mangled and vigil doesn't affect the mangled status effect because that effect is permanent until healed.

@Crowman said:
Besides Eruption since it is getting removed, the only other form of timed incapacitated is from a huntress addon that I've never seen anyone use because it's 5 seconds.
Unless the devs plan to add a bunch of perks that inflict timed incapacitated (which I hope they don't), it's largely a status inflicted by specific powers that force survivors to have to interact with a power.
There's no reason to change Vigil over the huntress addon.
Let's keep incapacitated to killer powers only please

Yeah its kinda weird, but with the eruption nerf its kinda of unnecessary.
Also, they probably should leave the incapacitated effect to killer power only like Victor from now on.
Probably the healthier decision for the game.

Eruption was nerfed because it affected some survivors (solo) way more than other survivors (SWF)
This is the same issue, where dead hard affects some killers (Trickster) way more than other killers (Legion).
We also need to remember that the counterplay for dead hard is garbage. We say “just go in point blank range and tap m1 to counter dead hard” and we also say “take a step back to counter 360s”. Having both these things at the same time is awful. So I’m simultaneously supposed to be in point blank range, and not point blank range, both at the same time? 360s are extra obnoxious because dead hard tells people to go into point blank range, which is where 360s are the most annoying.
What does that have anything with making DH not work with M2?
Eruption was nerfed because it allowed 3 gen stall wars. People saying the perk was bad against SWF are dreaming because the perk was used against the best survivors in comp.
If DH makes the strongest killers weaker and still they are the best killers, then why nerf the perk so the strongest can get even stronger.
If you want to nerf the perk nerf it. Don't just put these tiny exceptions where DH doesn't work if you hop on 1 leg for 5 seconds and sing Miley Cyrus

Dead hard shouldn’t work in M2 powers, because “it only takes a few seconds to bait out dead hard” doesn’t work with some killer powers. Some killer powers are heavily telegraphed, and you can’t ever bait out dead hard with them, because the survivor could easily dead hard those powers on reaction, even if the power was done at point blank range. Some killer powers have some range to them, and it would take a lot more than “a few seconds” to get into point blank range with the survivor. Some killer powers have a bit of range to them, and by the time you can get into point blank range, the survivor is already at a place where you can’t reliably hit the survivor with your power anymore.
And why should the strongest killers get stronger. Because i don't see everyone say that M1 killers are meta because of DH.
So why buff the best killers even further?

Yes, I know perks for one are never fun for the other. I'm just saying the equivalence for what kind of perks are fun for the killer.
Oh, ok xD. I was just confused because most survivors hate lightborn and franklins xD
I was wondering what was going on there xD

Honestly just watching a bit of the video already shows the bias he has. SB always gives value but DH doesn't? if the killer has to wait 5 seconds for the dh that's massive value for the perk failing. DH counters certain killer powers along with it having no real downside and being versatile.
I also highly doubt we go into a SB meta. Lithe is used 50% more than SB already and DH is almost double lithe. What most likely will happen is Lithe would be top with SB and overcome at half the pick rate of lithe.
I would be fine if they made DH not work with special attacks. Lets see how many players use the perk when it isn't a free 3rd health state vs a bunch of killer powers.
And why should killers that already have so many advantages over regular M1 killers get to not deal with a perk?
That makes no sense

The problem with exhaustion perks in general is with their design. Like Deliverance, second chance perks should require some sort of effort on the part of the survivor to activate. They either need some sort of meaningful negative affix upon use or they need to be earned. As of right now they still have neither of those things.
Something as simple as complete 1 gen to active X exhaustion perk would at least be a meaningful addition. It would require survivors to not play so risky in the early game and equate to more dropped pallets early on.
But killers get second chance perks with no requirements also
The idea of adding requirements to activate can work for balancing. But second chance perks needing to be earned is not a philosophy neither for survivors or killers.

Yeah, i think he pretty on point with the video.
Like, look at most survivor perks, they are either boring stat buffs, traps to get you killed or really situational.
DH is basically the only perk in the game that gives a new toy or tool for survivors and it's good.
You still should probably use SB if you want to win
-
@Devilishly_Rowdy said:
This is what it has come to sadly, make the game a 3v1 asap or lose. Because no amount of downs or hooks are gonna matter IF the survivors are just efficient at gens. All the new information on the survivor hud is cool for solo survivors but has also massively boosted gen speeds. The gen regression perk nerfs have also encouraged killers to tunnel more, because why go for hooks and not even get rewarded for it? Some survivor mains think that killers are just vile disgusting players that just want cheap wins and thus tunnel, but that isn't true most of the time, tunneling is literally the only way to win against decent survivors. Otherwise, enjoy those t-bags at the exits.
If they just balanced the maps instead of increasing gen speed, it would help massively, breaking like 40 pallets while other survivors sit on gens is the actual problem.
Tunneling was always the meta
So nothing changed, you just don't need to deal with DS now, so its even better
-
@Devilishly_Rowdy said:
Eruption : Rewards the killer for playing GOOD and getting downs. Survivors are incapacitated for 25 seconds. Uncounterable by solo players.
Dead Hard : Rewards survivors for playing BAD by providing them a second chance. Extends chases by 1-2 minutes or more. Uncounterable when used near pallets.
Yet dead hard stays untouched while Eruption gets nerfed. Make it make sense instead of typing "uS vs. tHeM" please.
More rewards bad players to kick gens by stalling matches to no end.
Rose tinted glasses are strong.
Seeing clips of DH plays are exciting, blood boiling for the killer.
Being incapacitated is exciting for no one.
Also, if you are a bad player with DH, he is basically a free kill, he probably can't use it well to begin.

The Pig slows down when she crouches. If I'm approaching a gen and crouch too soon it'll take me longer to get there. If I crouch too late they'll know I'm coming.
If I pick up a survivor and there are two hooks seemingly equidistant, I want to go to the closer one.
The first one is just stuff about pig that should really get fixed. No reason why a stealth killer should have a regular TR distance or for her to be so slowed down when crouching.
The second, i feel like experience you can get the feeling of distances you can pursue with a survivor on your back, also sometimes its better for the killer to not go to the closest hook.
Idk, i just feel like all that info is just cluttering the screen and not giving necessary info. The Hud update for survivors was necessary if the game wants to have solos and SWF be in a more even playing field.
They aren't, but still nice to not feel so much discrepancy as before

Dunno. I don't. But if people want to they certainly should be able to.
I honestly would prefer more perks like this. Perks that counter killer regression than more gen rush perks.
I mean, if you think right, if you gen rush a gen before the killer applies the regression you are countering the regression. And thats why we are in this gen regression s gen rush meta.
I also feel like if you bring a build that only does one thing you should be at the risk of being countered. Just like using a healing build and going against plague.

Perk Misfire
After repairing Generators for a total of 55/50/45 seconds, Misfire activates:
- Press the Active Ability button to sabotage the Generator you are currently repairing for 30 seconds, after which Misfire deactivates. The Aura of the blocked Generator is revealed to all Survivors in white.
- Misfire causes sabotaged generators to regress at 50% reduced speed
You could use this perk to purposefully regress the generator sort of giving the same effect as repressed since the killer can't kick it, but it's more of a getaway to make the killer think no one is there, also completely counters nowhere to hide, let me know what you guys think
Why not just use repressed alliance?
Has the same function but better since you don't loose progress

Since survivors have gotten "immersion breaking" HUD changes, and can see things like the repair progress of other survivor's gens...
Can the killer be shown how far away gens and hooks are from them?

Why would you need that info?
You can already see their auras, isn't that already immersion breaking info enough?

This may be a controversial opinion, but I really feel like Demo has the best yet worst addon design in the game. Now, you might be asking "how the hell does that make sense?", which is a reasonable response, but let me explain.
- A majority of Demogorgan's addons involve their portals, yet there are some to help with shredding but 70-90% of their addons are focus on making their portals slightly better. If anything, I would argue that most of Demo's addons arent even substantial enough to be considered "that good" (by community standards), and they mostly just feel like quality of life, but even then, Im perfectly fine with that, we do not need a Killer (and their addons) to be overwhelming, it just matters if they are fun.
- Demo's power to begin with is already really decent so addons arent necessarily needed either. I mean, their power is simple so in theory there is "only so much you can do", but sometimes you dont need a power or addons that just stack so many overbearing effects that you have to manage at once. Sometimes you just want to load into a match and go for some cool hits, and Demo excels at that.
- At the same time, the only reason why I think it is the worst design is because Demo's addons do not have that much going on with shred, which I feel as if it is missed potential. The portals are good, dont get me wrong, but we dont need that many portal addons.
You can probably tell this, but yes, I do love Demo a lot. Please BHVR, try your best to work with Netflix to bring back the Stranger Things IP, I just really miss Demo. </3
I mean, his add ons aren't amazing, but the worst?
You have killers with add ons like Nemesis, piramid head, Freddy, Hillbilly. Idk, i think Demos add ons are solid mid. Some good, some bad
I even think new killers like Wesker and Artist have way less crazy add ons, but those killers are strong, so i guess its good those and pyramid head don't have crazy add-ons

I mean not really. I don't have fun playing against knight due to a lack of skill expression on either side. I don't have fun always having to bait out dh, which isn't really too hard. I dislike both for different reasons. It was funny brushing past survivors while rushing only to turn around and watch them dab and panic for a few months after the rework, but now it's just monotonous again.
Demo players want to shred at max range again, huntress players would rather not go against perma 3rd health states above 10M. You gotta understand why so many people hate this perk.
Kinda funny I just watched A demo shred dh compilation before reading this post.
I mean, i understand why people dislike it. Especially if you play a killer that the perk counters hard like Demo and Huntress like you said.
But i am annoyed how bhvr keeps making killers that are boring and don't offer interaction or skill for either side, basically creating situations where the survivor is useless or the killer is useless because the survivor just went to the other side of the map.
Honestly seeing killer like those that create check mate situations just makes me glad DH is in the game.
Does it suck for everyone else, sure.
But i have accepted that Knight and other dumb BS is in the game and won't change or get buffed. So i don't feel DH being BS is all that different. If the game continues to give powers with free hits, then a 3rd health state that you need to time seems only fair.
Again, i know that this is not true for all killers or even most killers.
-
@ad19970 said:
I mean I get that killers like Knight can be unfun to go against, if all they do is just zone you away from loops. But I wouldn't say that correlates too much with DH, as these killers aren't necessarily op. I thnk Nurse and Blight are the best arguments for why DH shouldn't be nerfed, Blight because of his hug tech and op addons.
Also, if ths is because of Skull Merchant, then I am a bit puzzled. She can zone you with the potential to expose survivors, but in the end she still needs to get a hit against the survivor to down them. She definitely has counterplay in chases for sure. If anything, she just has the ability to reduce the amount of hits she needs against survivors to 1, because survivors either get exposed, or run away from the loop that she placed a drone at, and get injured. But in order to down you, she has to down you as an M1 killer.
She definitely won't be op.
I am more talking about the philosophy and things feeling fair or with counterplay. Both sides are filled with uncounterable stuff so i just feel kinda desensitized about the DH being uncounterable argument.
Especially with how new killers are designed. Yes these new killers aren't OP or anything, but these zoning powers that create loose loose situations depending purely on map with no skill for any player (killer or Survivor).
Also, nah. This is not because of the skull merchant, she basically just forces an injury with her power, after that the survivor doesn't care, so definitely not the worst offender with this philosophy, even tho still has that present in her kit
Simply put, if bhvr continues to release killer with powers that guarantee hits with no skill required on both sides, then i don't care if DH stays like this.

So you say that DH has become sort of a crutch, without that you can't win or play anymore? Interesting, people used that same reasoning when they nerfed a powerful certain killer gen kick perk, that, BTW, I am not defending.
But when something becomes such a crutch, maybe you should start playing without it, as you probably are playing outside of your skill- and comfort zone and let MMR sort you out.
Nope, i never said that.
Just saying that both sides have dumb stuff that you just have to play around and don't offer counterplay and new killers seem to show that design even more.
So DH being a counter to those situations is fine by me.
I also wouldn't even consider it a crutch when its so inconsistent thanks to connection issues and servers.
I am fine with SB thank you.

Not a good excuse to keep a broken perk in the game that hurts every killer. Yeah, killers like Knight are super boring, I don’t disagree with you there, but they do have counterplay that doesn’t involve DH. It’s a busted perk and it needs to go.
Not really, killers like those create situations where literally you need to have DH or you are downed. There is no in between and its all decided by the map layout allowing you to get to different loop or not.
But honestly i was talking more in general about stuff with no counterplay, but yeah the knight really just sours my perspective even more.
And if bhvr really just want to continue releasing this killers that survivors can't interact with, well DH is something killers have to deal with.
Like a bandaid solution to the "Well i couldn't do anything because i got zoned", well you have DH.

@TigerSnake said:
Kind of a funny thing to say considering its role not too long ago, but you guys get way too obsessed with the fact that it’s not a complete 100% without realizing how significant 75% noise reduction is. Ambient sounds exist ranging from your killer’s breathing, their own or the survivors’ footsteps, gens, or background noises like the howling winds on Lery’s. These sounds make the quiet grunts of pain very easy to miss, and even if you do hear them and acknowledge that there’s an injured survivor nearby, it’s still very difficult to determine where exactly in the environment they’re coming from. Can’t say “just turn up your volume” either, because when you turn up the volume, you’re not just increasing the volume of the pain noises, but of EVERYTHING. Every ambient noise, loud noise notification, or gen completion also becomes much louder, so unless your goal is to blow your eardrum out, that idea doesn’t help. And I haven’t even mentioned chase music. You’re basically using old Iron Will whenever you’re being chased by the killer with how loud killer music is. The only real weakness of this perk is the fact that it doesn’t function while Exhausted, which effectively limits how you can use it, although this just makes it a perfect companion for the most used perk in the game, you know, the one that you have complete control over when it triggers or not while injured that’s either gonna extend the chase or not, making IW turning off completely worth it for an additional healthstate. Honestly, the only exhaustion perks I wouldn’t run it with would be Sprint Burst and Overcome. If you want to get technical, an additional weakness would be that Stridor basically turns it off, but who tf runs that perk?
I don't use it because of the exhaustion change, its limiting and basically forces you to use DH if you want an exhaustion. Besides that its a selfish perk with flaws, now you have better selfish perks or use team perks.
No reason to use a stealth perk that only does 75% of its job and as restrictions on top of that.
I just think it was another case of bhvr overnerfing a perk for sake of it, when people where just asking for the perk to not make you stealthier injured than when you are healthy.

Are we saying exhaustion perks are the equivalent to short speed burst survivors get after being hit?
Honestly probably better. 1.8s of SB and a 2-3 second cooldown for the killer. A survivor can probably gain more distance from that than a 3s SB.
So yeah, the perk would be useless. Why bother using 2 perks, when you can just take a hit and do better.
Even better, since the killer has to chase you to get that hit, the other one the killer can just leave and waste less time. So yep, why bother using a perk that just helps the killer?

By the time the heal comes in the perk has done its job. Not saying the perk wouldn't be weaker, just not useless.
Why not just take the hit 90% of the time, it would do the same. Unless the killer has an instadown

Removing the healing wouldn't make it useless.

The perk is permanently deactivated once it has successfully triggered after being grabbed, or will instantly deactivate and no longer remain active once the exit gates are powered.
Once the perk triggers and successfully escaping the killer's grasp, results you to become the killer's obsession.
Increase the chance to become the killer's obsession.

Yep, some post even ignore that. Which i legit think is the most problematic part of the perk. And thats what i want changed, make it so tunneling can't counter the perk and balance with that in mind.
I think bhvr was so scared of this perk that they put this extra conditions and didn't really saw that the perk was just as strong for everyone except for tunneling.

Some killer's powers are extremely easy to overcome/ignore, so playing agains those killers is just boring.
Generators getting repaired in 30 seconds with 1 or 2 skill checks is too easy and not fun.
With perks like the healing boon you get a guaranteed win unless the killer focuses on shutting it off, which is just more time for us to do gens while the boon can be easily turned on...
Hex Perks are absurdly easy to find and destroy. Sure, they give a notification to the killer, but what for if they now have 1 perk less?
Flashlights blinding the killer in 1 second while lasting for an eternity is way too easy...
The only way to lose as survivor is if your teammates keep repairing the gens instead of unhooking you, or (and most likely) the killer camps and tunnels you because that way they get an easy kill...
I want a challenge. I want to be scared while playing. I want to do more stuff, not just like 8 skill checks and running around and then winning... It's so boring...
I have several ideas that could be fun to test, but I know survivor mains just want an easy game and they are always the first to complain... :/
DBD will never be scary, even if you made survivor this hardcore thing, a real challenge. Well this is a multiplayer game, people will just get frustrated, the game will loose appeal for many people and the game still wouldn't be scary.
DBD is scary for the first few hours when you don't know what you are doing and don't know how to survive. For anyone past that point making the game harder to win just adds frustration not fear.
People have fear of the unknown, after a while you just get desensitized. Look at Dredge, people like to say he was the return of horror to the game, that the Nightfall is this spooky mechanic that puts fear in the survivors. Well, i guess i was scared for like 3 games, then i didn't care and now i just find it obnoxious to be in the dark half the match.
So, yeah the big Eldrich horror scary monster was scary for 30 minutes

Sounds like a you problem, she is fine. One of strongest killers in the game.
But really there isn't many artist players and even less really good artist players. They waste so much setting up crows in bad spots and just let survivors hold W or mid game them.
It's honestly kinda fun destroying a bad artist player because they really just don't seem to realize what they are doing. Good artists are really scary

I dont want to ever see another Blight ever again, its only possible to win as survivor if Blight is bad, autowin for Blight has no counter, its only counter if Blight is bad.
I dont even play survivor anymore because of Blight
Hmm, i prefer to get wrecked in 5 min by a Blight than to win a 30 min game against Knight.
And i don't think Blight is the the problem, his add-ons are the problem, they are busted and need a complete add-on pass rework like nurse just got

Community: So what does the new killer do?
BHVR: Well they have these drones that scan an area and you can become stealthy inside them and after a while survivors become exposed if they're in range of the drone too long but then if they try to disarm them they get tagged and you get to know where they are wherever you want so you can be guarding area and chasing down survivors constantly as long as you setup correctly. Oh and then they have these add-ons they basically customize the drone letting you decide if you wanna focus on gen defense or chase more giving the killer multiple playstyles.
Community: BOOOOO! BAD! DELETE! WORST KILLER EVER! BOYCOTT DBD! Well what do these killers over here do?
BHVR: Wesker and Blight?
Community: Yeah
BHVR: They move fast?
Community: What else?
BHVR: No that's it they move fast. I mean Wesker has an infection meter but that's so easy to get rid of you won't notice it much so yeah mostly just moving fast.

My problem is the lack of interaction in this new killers the Knight and SM. This are characters that revolve around map control, the problem is that survivors can't do anything about their tools, so their tools need to be bad in chase to compensate, well now survivors just have to play smart, be in safe areas and attack objectives strategically so they don't have to deal with the killer's tools.
This designs just create a cycle, nobody can do anything until one side makes a mistake, turns matches into a grinding game.
Blight and Wesker are very simple, but because their power's are more mechanical based and with more room for active choices, people enjoy them more.

I honestly wasn't expecting to see the such negative reception the new killer is getting. From what I can gather a lot of it has to do with a perceived bad design, peoples expectations being way too high, and supposedly bad gameplay. Has any other killer received this type of attention in the past? I'm fairly new to the DBD community so a lot of this discourse is new to me.
Honestly even knight was the same, people just liked him more because of his aesthetics.
Besides him, i mean release legion was pretty bad, but i didn't play at the time so i don't know how bad the reaction was.
Twins with all the bugs and camping, slugging and tunneling was also bad
Trickster was bad to if i recall.
But, yeah this chapter really didn't make the best first impression, it's rough

Friendly Competition: Whenever you finish Repairing a Generator with at least one other Survivor, this Perk activates. You and other Survivors who finished Repairing the Generator with you get 5% increased Repair progress speed for 45/60/75 seconds. Survivors can only have one instance of this Perk's ability active at once.
How is this Deja Vu?
It's worse.
Deja vu gives you 5% boost for free, this perk asks you to team up on a gen to activate it for 75 seconds.
If i want to team up on gens, use prove, its a 15% boost all the time. What a sad perk
