  • She's amazing, and I do not think she needs buffs.

I literally just had the most intense game where 3 survivors were running around me trying to get the final gen at 90% progress. Normally I'd be doomed in that scenario, but this killer had me sniping people from 20m away for free downs, and juggling 2-3 people at once.

It was absolutely the most fun I've ever had in all my years playing.

I'm so happy with her as-is.

  • I just used it myself.

The map got booned, and I couldn't light it once. Literally an empty perk slot Lol

Maybe if I ever get plaything or hex perks in general on her, which I don't yet. But without those, it's such a joke perk so far.

  • Welp, I'ma hijack this thread and ask a related question myself to anyone who knows.

    20211130142600_1.jpg

The perk says: "For each Hex Totem active at the same time, Hex: Pentimento gains an additional effect."

Does this mean if I have Ruin, Devour Hope, and Haunted Grounds, that this perk will automatically start the game with 4 tokens since I have 4 hex totems? Or is the text only referring to relit hex totems?

I feel like the former would be too powerful of an effect, but at the same time that potentially vague description is making me wonder.

  • I mean there's an add-on that slows survivors who get swarmed for 1.5 seconds.

Other than that I personally like the base 4 second window (5 seconds with add-ons) you have between single crow hits. Really puts that hit-or-miss pressure on you akin to Slinger or Huntress, and raises the killer's skill ceiling.

Upgrading the instant-damage range or doing something to alter the hit window (like discouraging repel actions) would raise the skill floor enough that I'd be even more worried for future nerfs.

While I still want to play her more before I say anything else regarding her balance, I so far think she's in a pretty good spot.

  • If people are like me, they wanna play her but just can't.

Why did Carmina have to be released when all my group projects are due, and finals are coming up. Whyyyy

  • Finally got to crack open the game after the patch.

You know you were meant to main this killer when the you get the BEST perk in the game as your very first perk in the bloodweb.

    Monstrous.jpg

    Couldn't be happier.

    Thank you, Carmina, my beloved.

  • No one's going to run pentimento, so you're fine.

Even if someone was crazy enough to do it, you'll probably get a warning when you get the negligible healing debuff and will be alerted to find the totem you already cleansed again.

If you can't find the totem, just think about the areas the killer randomly wandered off to and you'll probably find the relit totem before it actually does anything.

    ---

    Edit:

I take it back. I just realized repair speed is now the first thing pentimento affects. I think I was going crazy, I swear they said healing was supposed to be affected first. Maybe it will have some use, nifty

  • I actually have an inside source who revealed the next killer to me. I shouldn't reveal this but...

    Killer:

    Mcote, "The Gaem Dictor."

His ability will be "Overwhelming Optimism" and his weapons will be his tattoo'd arms.

He'll run down survivors with trash-talk lines like: "I'm sure it takes sooo much skill to pull anything even resembling that loop off." When he hooks you, he'll chuckle and say: "Maybe you should take a break and go play some Civ." And every time you get downed it'll be followed up with a "I think you did a pretty good job so far."

Finally, he'll take out a glass of bloodpoints and drown you with it for a mori.

Move aside Trapper, there's a new/old face for DBD.

    ---

Nah, but I hope it's a killer with voice lines.

  • I can't blame them for asking for passionate players to vote for them in the Steam awards.

Though I'm really curious if they can honestly say they think they deserve it this year.

  • Depends on your definition of gutted.

Deathslinger I can't even enjoy anymore, he just feels like a budget Huntress. What does he even do better than her? I feel like he was gutted in the sense that his identity and unique playstyle (stealth shooter primarily) was removed.

Twins I similarly can't enjoy because that dang CD on hit with Victor is actually so frustrating. In that sense I do feel his enjoyment factor was gutted.

Freddy's add-ons for the most part suck hard now in that they're so situational or subjective in effect, so that I'd say was gutted.

Pinhead is another I don't play because I refuse to buy him, so I could be exaggerating there.

Spirit I just never see or hear about anymore, when I used to see her constantly.

  • I'll take your word for that, I don't play her myself.

All I know is I heard complaints about her, and I literally haven't seen her in a game since except the day after the nerfs. So I did just assume that one a bit.

  • @Chilli_man2400 said:

Guys can we stop this mentality that she’s going to get nerfed just for fun name one killer since Pyramid head that was gutted on release I’ll wait

Since she was just released in a good state, I think people are more worried she'll be gutted sometime soon after the release, especially if she performs well. This is especially scary if the nerfs hit the players ability to enjoy her.

If you use that criteria, the list of killers who recently experienced this treatment is:

    • Spirit
    • Deathslinger
    • Twins
    • Freddy
    • Pinhead

  • I don't blame you, it's hard to enjoy Trapper anymore.

If you try to get your traps and trap wide, the game is over by the time you set up.

If you try to hook and trap around there, you end up just camping and controlling around 20% of the map which people will constantly run from.

If you try to get an early hook and then trap wide, it becomes a pure RNG game of whether or not your traps do anything AND you increase the odds that someone will see the traps and disarm them as you move around.

And then in general, you can either trap loops which are easy for people to find or abstract spots which are completely random to get a hit on. It feels totally like luck to hit the right trap spots in each game.

    ---

Maybe I just don't know how to play Trapper, but he feels miserable no matter what my approach with him is.

And yes, I do use Corrupt Intervention.

  • Happy days.

Now all they need to do is add Carmina's image as a possible profile icon on the forums here and we're set.

I recognize the utilities Boon gives beside the effect.

I was being pushed away from a Gen in the Game, then later I could return to that Gen immediately because there was a Boon near by, which pinpoint location of my current Gen.

The Boon aura give the whole team totem location, so they can cleanse later instantly when Noed happens.

The moment Boon get into effect, it gives the whole team info that a teammate was there.

The moment Boon got snuffed, it gives the whole team info that Killer was there, and able to make a right direction when Terror radius coming.

    Yes...

Good catch, I completely failed to recognize the fact that it immediately gives information on the killer's whereabouts.

Which is funny, because every time I use it and it gets snuffed I keep telling myself: "Oh I guess the killer is there."

I hate that I love this perk so much.

  • I think messing around with perk slots or perk use in general would be nifty to implement.

But then I remember BHVR takes years to make or even fix stuff, so I doubt anything creative or original will ever come to the perk system.

    Sad days.

  • @C3Tooth said:

Let me introduce ONE perk that equal to 4 Self-care + 4 We will make it. And Killer not even able to permanently destroy it.

Don't forget the other stuff it gives, like:

    • Global rallying point (like the map add-on, but more visible)
    • Exact location of totem for the entire team (in case it gets snuffed); and
    • That its "We'll Make It!" effect for some reason applies to its Self-Care effect

I still don't know why one perk is allowed to be so good, even if it did had some outstanding negative to it (which it doesn't currently).

    ---

And the worst part is I love using it in all of my survivor builds, so I don't want it nerfed as badly as I should.

  • I'm at the point where I think pretty much every killer should have some form of passive slowdown ability, even if they're not equal.

Except those with extraodinarily strong kits, like Nurse and Blight.

  • Map is nice, I like the map.

Killer is great, I like the killer.

All the perks suck though imo except Overcome and Scourge.

Even then, Scourge I'm not overly excited about since it's just a 12 second solo gen regress per scourge hook you use or ~6 seconds if two people are on it. First chase typically takes 2-3 generators worth of time if the survivors bumrush them, and you only get the regression if you have a scourge hook nearby to use. I just feel like the usual regression perks are better (Deadlock, Corrupt, even Ruin).

Overcome paired with CoH will probably be a nightmare since you're discouraged from both chasing them or breaking off the chase unless you have a way to 1 shot or catch up asap.

Nothing else is worth talking about.

  • If you're on console, there's extremely long threads dedicated to how poorly it performs on them with frequent stuttering and freezing.

Then there's a few other problems:

    • With the introduction of MMR, if you're a good killer player you'll start to notice the glaring unbalance of the game with how fast generators can go. This experience can get exasperated if you don't run slow down perks, limiting your build diversity as a killer.
    • Victory conditions were clarified as being based solely on kills and escapes (which MMR is based of off), which has, in my opinion, increased the amount of tunneling and camping considerably.
    • Bloodpoint grind is getting steadily worse with each new character added. I wouldn't be surprised if it's as bad as the original 2016 grind before the bloodweb updated in terms of getting perks, maybe even worse soon at this rate.
    • Perks are still horribly unbalanced and vary in usefulness to a disgusting degree.
    • No sound bugs on downed survivors is still an issue
    • More objectives have been added for the killer, with no reward for completing them (boons)
    • Events are steadily getting worse (here's 666,666 blood points up front, in exchange you don't really get anything else except two skins)
    • Hackers have been increasing in number for months, with no word from BHVR. There's a free account week coming up to potentially make it worse in Dec.
    • The report system is still useless by itself, and needs to be combine with a tedious support ticket process that places burden of proof on the user, takes weeks to look at it, and gives little-to-no feedback
    • People are still toxic in general in game, and I doubt that's ever changing
    • Devs still biased data from casual games and balance around that, with little consideration for high MMR
    • There are currently map exploits where it is impossible (or near it) to pick up downed survivors, which despite clearly breaking their in-game rules under the "temporary ban" section, has been declared unpunishable by BHVR employees.

And that's just me typing for 3-5 minutes. I'm sure I could think of at least 10 more issues I have with the game lately if I wanted to.

Doin' a pretty good job so far.

  • Seems it for me, but I couldn't speak for anyone else.

I personally still have all 1 mil BP, all iri shards, and (from what I can tell) all the cosmetics and characters I had yesterday.

Though I'm not that motivated to play tonight anymore either way.

    ---

    Edit:

"The outage is now resolved! We encourage players to restart the game to improve their experience.

    Welcome back everyone!"

    Well there you go.

  • Welp, I can log back in and didn't lose anything.

Guess I can't criticize them too hard for this one yet.

  • Oh dang, I was gonna log in and play a few games tonight but not anymore.

I remember the last time this happened and people had their progress wiped, which was brutal and unfair. Hope it doesn't happen again.

BHVR is really doing its best to damage its reputation and reliability as a company lately.

  • No amount of charms would entice me to buy something.

I'm just not that attracted to superficial trinkets and baubles.

  • Egg-cited but caw-cious.

As part of the Carmina brood, I'm crowing for her release. As part of the DBD flock, I fear for who/what else the devs will murder.

I'm waiting on his upcoming rework. I love the killer visually and enjoy being sneaky, but he has too many quirks and idiosyncrasies to be fun for me and wow does he get looped hard.

I'm honestly terrified for the rework. I don't have much faith in the devs when it comes to balancing or reworks, and I'm afraid they'll ruin him for me. Though I admit he does require a different thought process to play effectively, which can be a deterrent, but if you can appreciate goofy play-styles, it gets funner once you get it down.

By goofy, I mean running behind survivors for 15 seconds without hitting them in some cases, or purposefully canceling chases and going back into them on repeat.

The key to his current iteration, I feel, is running Play With Your Food, avoiding chases, avoiding M1s that only injure, and only committing to short insta-downs. If you ever feel like you're getting looped hard, you're probably playing him wrong - he's not a chaser. I'd lose most of my games if I chased people.

Instead, my general plan is to:

    • Force them in towards the map with Corrupt Intervention at the start
    • Set up long-range stalk sessions from tall main buildings (Crotus Penn Asylum) or set up ambushes at generators next to corrupted gens
    • Insta down whoever I ambush; if revealed, just take the free stalk you got from them and reset
    • When I get a hook, use an info perk (need one, I like BBQ) to find your obsession or 99 stalk people
    • Run behind 99ers and wait for your power. NEVER hit them until exposed if they've been stalked over 25%

At that point it just gets crazy snowbally since you just keep stalk on everyone and run at 125-130% speed for basically the rest of the match.

The only maps I find difficult are Auto Haven and some farms maps since they can be a little too open. Everything else has some main building to abuse, good stalk corners, are indoors, or have some other niche.

    ---

Also remember they only reveal you when they see 20% or more of your body, not your face. Keep abusing the peaking mechanic and eventually you'll figure out the little angles where they literally can't reveal you from their direction.

  • No one said Ghostface yet...

    Ghostface.

    ---

Though I do think he's slightly stronger than some say if you learn how to abuse his ability reveal mechanic and focus on exposing people.

  • 1v1 my survivor side could probably put a real fight without much effort, just because I would pre drop pallets like heck. But, like every 1v1, the survivor would eventually go down.

1v4 vs myself, I'm pretty sure I'd beat my killer self every time just because I like being efficient and not playing overly stupid. There's more than enough pallets to do so.

Though, I guess it kinda depends on the killer too.

  • That's kinda funny actually when you check out their "Game Rules" section of the forum. Especially if you check out this rule under the "Temporary Bans" subsection:

You will be subject to a temporary ban if you: "Exploit bugs, errors in design, or undocumented features to gain access to what otherwise would not be available or to obtain a competitive advantage"

Since an official employee said it's not reportable or bannable, that means either:

    • This spot is an intentional feature now; or
    • The devs are starting to create exceptions to their own rules; or
    • The devs are refusing to uphold certain rules that are inconvenient to them

    ---

I prefer not to think the devs are so incompetent and uncaring as to show favoritism in their judgement and rules, and prefer to think of them as impartial and fair people. Nor do I want to believe that they're openly shirking their social responsibilities. No company would be that openly terrible, right?

    So I guess I can honestly say: "That's not a bug, that's a feature!"

  • We're not all toxic.

I like to think I'm aldwight.

  • It's so long, and hard... to read.

  • I mean, if based on personality:

    • Balanced Landing
    • Leader
    • Calm Spirit
    • Off the Record

    Except, here's the issue.

BHVR works incredibly slowly. It took them 4 years to fix Iridescent Head. 2 years for a MMR system that is based solely off of Escapes and Kills.

People are miserable at high MMR right now. It ######### sucks. If we have to wait 2 years for BHVR to even make an attempt at fixing what they've done, then I think most of them are out.

Hey don't forget it took 5 years to get DS in a reasonable spot, or that they're still fixing the no-sound bug for downed survivors which has been in the game for 2-3 years.

So yeah, it takes a scary long time for them to do anything.

    ---

Also don't forget about this gem in patch 1.9.2:

"Fixed an issue that made it impossible to rescue a dying survivor with a pallet/flashlight save while being picked up or dropped mid animation. Now, the pick up/drop animation will play fully, followed by the flashlight/pallet stun."

Since these stuns were acknowledged as being intended since the inception of the game, that means it technically took two years to "fix." Fortunately the fix was removed in 4 days though, gotta give them that!

  • Ghostface + Legion = "Whatever happens, happens. You wanna goof around? Sure, sounds fun!"

Pyramid Head + Doctor = "Don't feel bad, Bea. They all must die. Tunnel them - do it. They deserve to die."

  • You know it's bad when you watch that video, see the first hook, and think to yourself: "Wait, only one gen popped?"

Then the second gen popped shortly after the hook and I thought "that's more like it."

The especially scary thing is that was a short chase, and three gens would have been entirely possible there. In fact, it's entirely possible generators as a whole could have gone even faster.

    ---

But it's okay, almost everyone died in the end, so the bias data the devs use to confirm their terrible balancing decisions is validated.

    Time to nerf killer.

  • I had a game tonight on Haddonfield.

I booned a house in the corner at the start of the game because I wanted to gain access to my infinite heals. Little did I realize it would turn into a fiesta where all four of us just kept bum rushing the Huntress, running to the boon, spam healing ourselves and each other, and then bum rushing her again.

This tomfoolery lasted, literally, around 10 minutes and it was the stupidest thing I've seen in awhile.

I kid you not when I say that boon probably assisted with, or allowed, around 40+ heals. The huntress couldn't even move to snuff it out, because we were just throwing ourselves at her for funsies.

    ---

Then again, we did all die in the end... I guess that means CoH needs a buff, if anything.

  • I mean, post-nerf Self-Care is still strong to be fair.

It takes 32 seconds to heal base, sure, but having someone heal you is still 32 seconds overall (16 seconds each). Self-Care's is just like a normal heal, except you can do it anywhere and without restrictions or travel time associated with it. People just see that 32 second self-heal base time and go "omg so long, it sucks" when in reality it's the exact same overall time commitment as someone else healing you.

Then again Boon: Circle of Healing exists now, and everything is relative, so I guess it does suck currently.

    ---

That said, people tend to complain about commonly used things being strong because things tend to be common when people use the thing a lot, and people use things a lot when the things being used are strong and appealing to use.

Everything's relative too, as mentioned in my Self-Care rant, so I think one tool being commonly used and deemed OP just means it's probably above the curve in a noticeable enough way.

I'd be more surprised to find something that's overpowered but not popular to be honest.

    ---

Edit: Get my meaning and things?

I just wanted to say "thing" again.

  • I like reading long posts about valid concerns that probably won't ever get acknowledged enough to evoke a change.

It lets me know I'm not alone.

  • It's depressing enough that DBD can be obtain free in entirety from Epic Games without a could preventative or reactive process for handling hackers.

I guarantee you that, along with a rise in hackers in general, people providing these hacks will also be using these free accounts to test their limits and progress their cheats even more.

If DBD went entirely F2P, that'd be the same as giving up on the game in its current state imo. Though, maybe I could finally quit for good then.

  • @Mandy said:

I will clear something up here....the area on the Dead Dawg Saloon that's been discussed in this thread, is not bannable, or reportable so please do not waste supports time in this. The killer can also reach the survivors in this area.

With exploits, we do list on the report page (as linked previously) which ones we ban for.

And yes, people are banned for various cheats/hacks etc - it's just that as we don't allow threads here of that nature, you don't see the complaints and we delete the ones that are here for various reasons. Steam also, we also close threads on this subject.

And whilst you might have heard some streamers say "bhvr doesn't ban cheaters" I'll respectfully remind you, that these people do not know our processes and does not know our team of ACM's who do these bans. It's just a rhetoric that gets thrown around.

EAC gets updated to block cheats, people find a way to get around this, then the updates happen again - it's sadly a vicious circle.

Preventative measures for hacking is tough, I'm sure, with the ever waging war of security that's constantly going on. That said, do you have any plans to improve your reactionary steps to address hackers/cheaters?

From what I understand the reporting process to actually get someone banned from the user's perspective is:

    • Have a recording device active before the game, or ready during the game
    • Capture and reference the offender cheating on your recording device
    • Ensure the offender's name is clear on the video
    • Upload video to online media site for sharing
    • Report the offender in-game
    • Login to DBD's support site that I'd argue few know about
    • Create support ticket attaching support documentation
    • Get minimal feedback on the outcome of the report

This process seems lengthy, complicated, and places a large burden on the actual user trying to play for fun. Not to mention the minimal direct feedback on ban outcomes can be discouraging on top of all of that. This discouraging process can be worsened further if it's still possible for the hacker to take over the in-game report system and leave the user nasty or threatening messages when they try to use the in-game report function.

In addition to the complexity and burden on the user, people don't really know about this process either like you just said. Even if they did though, I'd argue no one really wants to do this every time they see a hacker since it's just so darn tedious and unsatisfactory.

  • I used to run chest looting builds for clutch RNG key plays in games, but that was about it before.

    Now that's dead soooo, nope.

  • True. Played 7 games tonight, and 2 had blatant hackers.

Legit just stood around and watched them crawl on the ground at super speed, heal themselves, and just running around the killer mocking them.

I don't even report them anymore. BHVR's report process is terrible, complex, and burdens the user more than it should. I'm already growing to accept them as regular players, and my disdain for them is turning into indifference.

  • I dunno, but I'm sure the survivors are counting their blessings that it doesn't.

  • @dugman said:

There actually is a bit of finesse though beyond just “hold W also”. Namely deciding when it’s worth holding W to continue chasing them and when it’s not. For instance, if they’re holding W and leading you away from all the gens that might not be worth doing, but if they’re holding W toward generators then chasing them could also pressure people off those. Or similarly if they’re holding W but heading into a corner then you’ll catch up more quickly and it might be worth it. And you can also potentially influence the direction they hold W by forcing them onto one side of a pallet or the other before you break it, for example.

So yeah, the actual act of chasing them is straightforward (no pun intended) but there’s some nuance in when to actually do that and positioning at the start of it.

Jokes aside, I actually do agree with this.

When it comes to survivors just running forward, it really is about picking your battles and catching people off-guard more than running them down. This is also why I appreciate stealth killers and even perks like Monitor and Abuse and even info perks like Spies From the Shadows sometimes (albeit I think Spies needs a bit of a buff sometimes). Just being able to catch people off guard is so powerful in itself, and can help reduce the effectiveness of hold W until it's efficient enough to commit.

As a side note though, this is also why I'm so frustrated with Boon: Circle of Healing lately. It just kind of punishes killers for trying to juggle survivors and heavily promotes brute forcing them down, which is probably why running forward is getting so much attention lately.

    ---

    I'm also dis-caw-raged the pun wasn't intended.

  • This thread is a prime example of one of BHVR's most rampant problems in my opinion:

    Lacking information clarity.

It doesn't matter if it's the ranking system, difference between SWF and soloq, the false positives with hit validation, the proper post-game reporting process, the wording in a lot of their patch notes for balance changes, being unprepared for bloodhunts, dealing with hackers, and more.

The company is just failing so hard in delivering clear and concise information to its users on its processes lately, and arguably even to themselves after the internal NFT misunderstanding.

If @MandyTalk or mods read this, I like you guys, but a real complaint of mine for the company is in information clarity lately. That said, I do think revealing add-on values and win conditions was a great first step, but I think and hope this area of clarity keeps improving in the future.

    ---

If you need help with it, I can be quite caw-operative. I'm also quite the cunning linguist and even a master debater.

(I just really needed to stick those puns in somehow)

  • This post is too positive, is this a survivor trap!?

Spies from the Shadows are everywhere, and I can't help but be caw-tious.

  • The fiends! Protecting the ability to play with friends is disgusting.

All games are best enjoyed alone and in isolation.

    ---

Jokes aside, nothing should be done about SWF - it's fine.

What isn't fine however, is how far and how easily SWF reaches the survivor skill-ceiling over normal survivors. Why? Because personal skill via looping and what not is not as relevant as pure information in terms of determining a team's overall performance capability. After all, it does not matter how good you are at looping if your team isn't doing generators (or if you lead the killer to generators being worked on). Likewise, it does not matter if you go down instantly and get facecamped if your team is all doing generators.

Information is king in this game.

And unfortunately people tend to prefer action-packed perks over information perks in solo queue games, so solo survivors tend to suffer, which lowers the average stats of the game, which in turn creates biased data that people like Almo then fawn over and continue to balance around.

What really needs to be done is lowering the information gap between solo queue and SWF. This means buffing info perks, or perhaps even implementing info perks as a base mechanic. Two simple examples of this could either be base-kit Kindred OR improved perk definitions that label perks as information/chase/etc and making one info perk mandatory per build, or giving a free info perk slot in every build to prevent reducing build diversity.

Sure, killers will suffer with these buffs, but at least the skill ceiling and floor gap will be reduced enough where they can actually start balancing the game instead of relying on biased data to create a world of inadequacy and frustration.

  • Sh- my knowledge was incomplete. I forgot about the moonwalk and sidestep tech.

    I have disgraced myself.

  • There's actually some skill involved in this technique.

What you want to do is also hold W. Now, I know, you think I'm crazy, but hear me out.

Using your superior skills as a killer, you will eventually catch up to their W. You may think this wastes a lot of time, you may think the gens might all be done by then, and you may even blame me for losing the game by following my simplistic advice. If you think this way, you'd probably be right.

But that's not the point. I'm only here to tell your options as a killer on how to handle this.

And the secret solution is by engaging in an intense battle of wits and skill by holding W yourself.

  • I'm not entitled, I just deserve things to go my way.

1 … 3 4 5 6 7 … 18
