  • You hav got the first Vote Up. Im afraid it could be the last :( I wish more people would giv her a try without celebrating this boring hardcore 3 gen playstyle.

How is it that Skull Merchant, a killer with who it isn't uncommon to always have atleast one person on your radar and thus always having a 3% or more speedboost is considert a weak killer who's only option is to guard 3 gens cause her chase power is so abysmall while a 3% haste bonus for survivors turns them into uncatchable monsters?

That seems like a very odd contradiction. Is MfT overrated? Or is Skull Merchant underrated? What is the source of these mixed messages we are sending to the devs?

I wouldnt consider Skully a weak killer. She is in a good spot.

Same to "Mad(e) For This". It is strong in the right hands against certain killers (e.g. M1 Killers or Bubba). I still wouldnt call it OP and I hope it stays the way it is.

    Depends.

If I don't care about winning, don't have a Tome challenge for escaping and the teammate wasn't ruining the match or something, sure.

Before the new SBMM, I didn't care about winning either. Now I'm more selfish when it comes to this situation :/

You are a camper, sir. But I see no reason to blame you.

  • I always give the hatch as a sign of good sportsmanship. 3 kills is already a win for me and I don't care about pips or BP. Killers also often give me the hatch/exit gate.

  • That was addressed to the OP. Sry for the misunderstanding. In my opinion, the core question has already been answered, which is why I quoted your comment.

A few reasons I can think of:

    1. Anger: not getting that hit can make people see red and everything else is a blur apart from that one individual.

    2. Practice: not as common as anger, but some may see a really good survivor as an opportunity to improve their chase.

    2. Practice (2): A few killers may actually be survivor mains and when they see someone great, they would chase to learn how they play, so they could integrate it into their play.

    4. Ego: as @gnehehe says, some just feel butt-hurt and just chase to "assert domination" over them. They're the least popular of killers.

    5. Items: some will chase someone for ages if they see them as a flashlight-saver or believe they have a powerful item. This was especially true when keys were a quick and easy escape.

    6. Prejudice: maybe they dislike Neas. Maybe they recognise a name. Maybe they say TTV. They just have a grudge towards those types, over preconceived opinions.

I think you already knew these answers to your question before you posted the thread.

I do it sometimes when I see a phenomenal looper in a lobby I'm facing. It's not about winning the game anymore, it's looking at how they use loops and how they chain them. I'm a very poor looper myself as survivor, so when I encounter a great one as killer I can't help but be mesmerized and try and understand how they play first-hand.

This is the best way to become a decent survivor. All the top survivors I know are also very good killers and vice versa.

  • Yeah, you meanie little monsters. How dare you use a game mechanic intentionally implemented by the developers? *puts Mary's Letter on his Nurse and blinks away*

  • Gz. What perks other than No Mither have u used?

When there was still the old ranking system, I bet with a friend who of us would reach rank 1 first. We played without perks and always in pairs. After a week we went from rank 10 to 1. She had won and I had to invite her to dinner.

I wouldn't do that with the new ranking system. Since you can no longer lose your rank by depips, I don't see any incentive there.

Also, I did an escape streak in Solo Q. Twice 13 escapes and once 19. At some point I didn't feel like it anymore.

  • @ElodieSimp said:

I see it in my games sometimes and a lot of YouTube videos. Why do killers chase down one survivor for a long time, usually at the start of the game, then get tilted in end game chat?

Any killer mains here that do this? If so what is the reason?

I honestly don't understand why you're asking. If you can run the killer for more than 4 minutes, you're the only survivor having fun in the match. There's nothing I like better than being chased by a Bubba who won't give up and wants my ass at any cost.

When I chase a very skilled survivor as a killer, I'd rather hunt him down than some random Steve who's on the ground after 10 seconds. It's because I want to get better, not because I'm mad. If you only play against mediocre people, you'll get worse over time.

  • @NerfedFreddy said:

High mmr killers lobby shop too much. It messes up matchmaking really bad and distributes high mmr survivors down the ladder to weaker casual killers completely ruining their experience. BHVR should just remove lobby shopping either by locking everyone in lobby and penalizing for dodging or by hiding survivors, items, prestiges, profiles from killers

I think a lot of killers would stop playing if they couldn't dodge anymore, which would result in longer wait times. Otherwise I'd agree with u.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

I love the challenges. I would get bored if it wasn't for them. I just wish people would just play them in a way to not throw. I always put the objectives first and then worry abut challenges.

That's very nice of you and also the way I'm going. Unfortunately, many don't do that. Some just don't have the playing time to master their quests in the normal way and somehow I can't blame them either.

  • And people once called me "horny" for daring to ask for a Feng Min Crop Top...

  • @illNicola said:

I totally understand you, the fear of encountering subtle cheaters added to the overall stress of playing killer.

I don't understand why bhvr doesn't change anticheat, it doesn't protect anything the anticheat that dbd has

I really wish there would be a solution to this at some point.

    @mikewelk said:

Worst part is when they run perks (such as Boon: Dark Theory) that make you question if they were cheating or not...

Yep, sometimes it's really hard to tell if it was the perks or if something else helped. That's why I'm always very careful with such accusations, because you often can't prove it. I mean killers with aura reading cheats are more noticeable, especially when u play with distortion.

With survivors, on the other hand, this is more difficult to recognize. Sometimes I have survivors who are very clumsy, but have always been able to perfectly predict where I'm going and never fall for a single mind game. That seems suspicious too, but I can never say for sure.

  • @Annso_x said:

"Ignorance is bliss" probably applies to me when it comes to cheaters. Unless they're very obvious I don't realize people are cheating. There's some instances where I'm absolutely certain a killer is running X aura reading perk because they always seem to know exactly where survivors are and it turns out they have 0 aura reading perk or add-on, but even then I just think "they probably have good game sense and I'm not as unpredictable as I thought".

I remember reporting 2 cheaters, a Dwight who insta completed all gens and opened the gates and a Kate I could see TP thanks to Empathy. I think I also reported a few others but I don't remember them (and I'm still embarassed about my newbie self reporting a Freddy because I had no idea he could teleport...).

In any case I'm not good enough or/and don't pay attention enough to notice when something is off if it's subtle, I'm always mind blown when I see videos of people immediately noticing someone is like 1% too fast or something like that. On the bright side I don't feel like my gaming experience is ruined by cheaters because I simply don't notice them, but knowing I've probably encountered way more than I think I have and that they're subtle enough they're fooling the large majority of the playerbase sucks.

That's a fair statement. As you say, I think in most cases we probably don't even realize it, and that's kind of sad. But if killers always know exactly where you are without having aura reading or killer instincts then that's very suspicious. Ditto for survivors who suddenly disappear into nowhere and run 6 laps around the shack without you being able to catch them...

  • @MrPeanutbutter said:

Last night I had someone unhook themself in the basement on their 2nd hook stage. That one was a bit more obvious. I don’t record my games but maybe I need to start. Although not sure it’s worth my time to go through the incredibly tedious reporting process that BHVR forces on when there is no guarantee that they will even do anything.

Unfortunately the reporting system takes too much time and I don't want to record every game. Even if people get banned, they just take the next account. Cheating should be prevented preventively. I wish DBD would offer a recording function for their games themselves, but that will probably remain a dream.

  • @Chordyceps said:

I seem to be lucky enough to get the cheaters who are blatantly obvious with their hacks. Last cheater I encountered was in the process of opening the exit gate a grand total of 10 seconds into the match. When I ran up to them they blipped out of existence.

The most common cheaters I see are the ones with hella movement speed, instablind from anywhere flashlights, instantly pick themselves back up, every perk in the game, minute long stun times, etc.

These are rather few and far between at least. Usually I'll see 1 every other month or so.

Obvious cheaters are annoying too, but I don't find them as bad as those who do it secretly. Last time I met one was at Coldwind Farm two weeks ago when I was playing Knight. He was sitting on the roof of the main building. Interestingly, my guards flew up to him. At least he ended the game quickly after realizing I was going afk.

The problem with subtle cheaters is that in many cases you probably don't even notice. I don't always want to think of cheaters when I'm outplayed. But when I really push myself to finish a chase and end up seeing my opponent cheat, it annoys me even more.

Had this thought early while posting about genrushing. Some killers are far more vulnerable to getting genrushed than others. One of the reasons I almost never play twins is that it takes too long to get anything done. If you down survs with victor it often takes ages to find and hook them. Trapper is a slow killer and makes for a more tactical game. Whilst killers like nurse can end chases super quick, wesker has traversal, blight has both.

Ive suggested before a rolling handicap based on which team is winning, based on gen progress, hook states and how many survs are alive. But since a killer is a static factor in a game, i.e. they are there for the whole match and will not change, perhaps devs vould look at killrates, match times and gen progress times to identify which killers are suffering, and tweak to slow gen speeds in games involving those killers, or vice versa for killers that are dominating and perhaps buff gen repair speeds in their games.

Extending repair times is not a good solution. It makes the matches even more like an M1 simulator. Map design is the key to fair matches.

I'm 99% sure this is a joke, but I'm unironically having great success as a stealth Pig with faster crouch movement/transition speed add ons. Scoring a lot of ambush hits due to the fact that you don't slow down much at all when you prepare it.

No sir, Pig is OP! And you even confirm it. Stop buffing her and eat more bacon! *squeals*

  • 120k in the moment. When I hit the million I will offer it to BHVR in exchange for a panda onesie for Feng Min.

  • Buffing Pig is a massive mistake. It's almost impossible to stop her right now.

Anyway, most of the changes are small tweaks.

  • I fear that the mean slug builds would regain popularity.

There’s no such thing as “gen rushing” I don’t like when people use that term.

There is no precise definition of "gen rush", but the term is often used when gens are done very quickly. A large part of the DBD community likes to blame people for wanting to play effectively and win.

Of course, what you call "gen rush" is subjective. I've met killers complaining about gen rush even though the match lasted more than 15 minutes.

For me it's a gen rush when four people with BNP and the right perks do the gens in under 4 minutes, but fortunately that doesn't happen often.

  • Oddly enough, I haven't seen a dredge in months. Killers that I also meet very rarely are:

Freddy, Hag, Demo, Clown, Sadako, Trickster and Piggy.

Instead, I am delighted with many Whiskas, Blights, Huntresses and Legions. Meh.

I think you misread me on a few occasions.

1, I didn't mean to suggest you are biased, because I don't know. All I tried to say is, that everyone thinks they are not biased

2, I don't think exhaustion perks are too bad. I think exhaustion perks are just fine. They shouldn't be nerfed even further, but also they shouldn't get buffs.

3, soloQ is nightmare no matter if your teammates outright suicide, or try to play the game normally. Most often the issue is, that if you want to do some ######### challenge, you won't drag your friends down - so you do your only no mither challenge in soloQ. Another thing is, soloQ is much more selfish resulting in everyone dying when they could have 3-outed. Another thing is, that matchmaking is a mess. And if you have 3 good survivors and 1 bad AND killer will figure it out (meaning it's not hard-ass tunneler just for tunneling purposes), then the match is very much in favor of killer. And as a last thing (but this one is least important no matter what other people say) - comms also do help.

4, stats are scewed for killers benefit. DC games don't count (which happens often when your team is loosing - but it's 4x more likely for survivor team to have someone DC then killer team). Giving hatch/gate is also a thing and the only thing that offsets this a little is farming killer. Overall the games where it's just pure 1-sided killfest are not counted in a lot of cases, because one of the survivors is very likely to just DC.

To your last note - agreed, but I would go even further. IMO devs should buff ALL the perks for BOTH sides that don't have high usage rate. It's a little bit more tricky on killer's side (because iron maiden is fine perk on trickster and huntress and is usable on a few other killers, but most of the killers rightly consider the perk just trash-tier), but there's still some objectively good/bad perks and going by numbers - most of the perks are bad on both sides

    2) Cheeesus! If you had put a comma after "no", I would have understood you 😂 Ok, now i got it.

    3) My mom always said Solo Q is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get. I agree with you that bad MMR increases the problem. Unfortunately, many mates in Solo Q don't play escape- or team-oriented and prefer to take care of quests and achievements. That's why I wasn't happy with the introduction of the Rifts because people only thought about their quests. Since then, the quality of my matches has already decreased. But that's my personal Mimimi.

  • @Ayodam said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3446947#Comment_3446947

The last stats we received (October of last year) had the kill rate at about 61%. That’s much higher than 50%. And this was before the nerf to healing, which harmed solo queue most.

Yes, this is the data the developers collected in September 2022. However, these data should be treated with caution. Consider that according to this stat, Whiskas, Plague, and Dredge are the deadliest killers in High MMR. But most would agree that there are even stronger killers at DBD.

Statistics are nice, but reading them in the right context is not that easy.

Everyone will always think they are the least biased person. The only thing that can help in this regards is to actually play both sides (and I personally play more killer now as it feels much easier/rewarding then soloQ=true nightmere right now). And what I can tell is, that most people just want to win all the time (on both sides). So as long as there is something they can blame it on, then that's the thing the other side will complain about. Just as a pure example - say you remove ALL survivor perks and items. There will still be killer players, that will loose against better survivors - those will probably complain, that there are too many pallets on maps, they are too big, vaulting for killer takes way too long, etc. There will always be complains, because everyone wants to win.

The only fair thing that can be done is to actually look at the data and make sure both sides win/loose/draw on average the same amount as the other side and that there are skillful things that make impact on the results (otherwise you can play rock-paper-scissors for the same result).

Also AFAIK killrate is currently quite a bit higher then 50% and that is the case for a long time now (from patch 6.1 onwards).

I've asked about buffs and nerfs for both sides in the past. If you think I'm biased, fine.

killrate is currently quite a bit higher then 50%

    and

killrate is still high, so no exhaustion perks are fine the way they are

The kill rate is a bit over 50% and that's because the exhaustion perks are too bad? I'm honestly glad you're not responsible for balancing.

You have to ask yourself why the kill rate is a few percent higher than intended. You say Solo Q is a nightmare. But why is it that most Solo Mates die? Consider how often your mates let themselves die on the hook or sabotage the match by trolling, questing, or doing anything but gens. That's why the devs can't just rely on the stats alone.

BTT: Regardless of any stats, I'd still appreciate it if less popular exhaustion perks were made somehow more attractive.

  • @Gandor said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3446900#Comment_3446900

Yes. But that's devs take on the game. Both sides have unfair stuff. So long as C33+alch ring blight (and other equivalents on other killers) stay, so should these busted toolboxes. Ideally both would be removed at the same time (but that would be quite a work as there are many killers and most of them have something busted).

Anyway - killrate is still high, so no exhaustion perks are fine the way they are

I enjoy playing both sides equally and am perhaps one of the least biased players on the DBD forums. That's why I expect fair balancing for both sides, of course.

You say the kill rate is high. But how do you know that? Based on the last stats I saw, the average kill rate was just over 50%. So almost like the devs wanted it to be. Even if we had new data and the kill rate was too high, we couldn't draw any conclusions that the exhaustion perks are too weak.

In my experience, with the right Exhaustion Perk, I can extend a chase a lot. The only problem is AddOns or Fearmonger making me exhausted.

  • Wraith, Myers and Doctor are my personal top 3. Almost all of their addons are useful and some allow for completely different playstyles.

Worst AddOn Kits? I think Billy, Bubba and PH.

  • @whickedchainsaw said:

Exhaustion perk extend chases for too long. Generators fly too fast 3 gens are done before you get to hook someone. Dropping a chase and going for the next only extend the chase further because of exhaustion perks and finding survivor for which drains all the time u have.

I use gen protection and regressions but all of them are nerfed thanks to balance team and survivors crying for nerfs. M1 killer is miserable to play so do u want me to play meta blight/nurse with favored realm offering?? Its so boring. Please devs fix your game.

If you're struggling with exhaustion perks, you might want to try Fearmonger. Killers with low mobility enjoy it.

Gen Speed is a problem when people are playing with Hyperfocus StakeOut + Commodious Toolboxes + BNP and when they are spreading out to the Gens.

As someone who really doesn't like playing against Whiskas, I'm sorry to say that he doesn't need any nerfs at all. Unfortunately, I play against him very often (9 of 10), which is why I feel a certain aversion to him. But he is definitely not too strong. Playing him yourself is definitely fun!

The Alchemist Ring and Compund 33 are the only problem with Blight. Otherwise, in my opinion, he's one of the best balanced killers in DBD. I like playing against him and I know all the counterplays. Funnily enough, the very good Blights almost never play with the infamous AddOns.

What is wrong with you today killers(you know who)? It's only Wednesday.

Just needed to vent. I don't find it common for killers to hit me continuously on hook, but what do you know, it happened at least twice today. Send help, I'm losing my mind (survivors have been questionable too).

I couldn't care less what stupid gestures some random guy in a video game makes to me. Bleeding out is dumb, but I always take it as an opportunity to take a little break. And honestly, it doesn't happen often.

This killer went from B tier at most to A or even S tier, he was already really good considering how easy it is to do good with him.

He has great map mobility, he can get hits extremely easy, and in the current meta where every Wraith uses sloppy because healing got nerfed and also the removal of lightburn which made him so much better than he already was he feels overpowered considering he has no skill ceiling to do as good as a Nurse or a Blight which feels unfair.

Wraith main here since 2017. After many years of suffering, Wraith is now in a very good spot. But he is definitely NOT an S-Tier.

You say it's easy to play him? Well, he requires little mechanical skill compared to Nurse, Blight or Billy. But still, he's not a killer to play braindead. Most Wraiths I meet make a lot of mistakes or just don't play with the most effective tools. I notice this with content creators who play Wraith a lot. If you think you can beat any decent team with Hit&Run only, you unfortunately have little experience. Even as a Wraith you have to adapt to your situation and to your opponents and remain flexible in terms of your strategies.

My question now is: If Wraith is so easy to play and still at S-Tier level, why do I only encounter non-stop Whiskas, Blight, Whiskas, Tunneltress, Nurse, Whiskas, Camptress, Whiskas and Whiskas? If you play with inexperienced players in the Solo Q and you have little experience yourself, then every D-tier killer will overwhelm you. Just saying.

    @GentlemanFridge said:

    High B at best.

He’s ultimately still an M1 killer.

    @GrimReaperJr1232 said:

Okay, Wraith can be good, definitely. But calling him S-tier? No. Absolutely not. He is nothing compared to Blight or Nurse or even Spirit.

First off, when you're in a loop, he's an M1 killer with no power. Yes, he can sneak up on people but not only is this difficult on some maps (try sneaking up on someone in Borgo) but he'll also have to contend with the likes of Sprint Burst that exist to get people out of hairy situations such as those.

Second, yes, he is a hit-and-run specialist. However, if survivors have the tools to counter this such as good medkits, healing perks, etc, that pressure can evaporate very fast.

Third, he'll still have to contend with survivor defenses. Beyond eating pallets, he'll have to deal with things like base BT/OtR that hampers his ability to tunnel, Camping is about to get nerfed, so he has to gamble it all on his ability to get hits and keep people injured. Except, for doing that, all he has is stealth.

He can be good, really, he can. But does that compare to a killer that can literally down you in twelve seconds, the fastest killer in the game, or a killer whose entire power is complete invisibility without needing to uncloak/fatigue? No. No, it does not.

    Highly confirmed.
