This is something we need to ask the team next time they are doing a Q&A.
-
They should give her a L4D cosplay of Bill.
-
You're absolutely right.
-
Another confirmation. So we have 2 outfits for Dwight and 1 for Jane/Mikaela/The Doctor/The Clown/The Trapper/Jeff/Ace/The Wraith disappearing for a whole year!
How are people fine with this?

You are intentionally simplifying what I actually said to make me look bad. There is nothing wrong with seasonal content being limited to that season. It's plain and simple to understand.
There is though. There is no benefit for those time-restrained comsetics. This is simply a downgrade consumer-wise compared to the rest of the store.
-
All those things are part of a lootbox/gacha system. We are better without it.
-
Becoming F2P doesn't excuse greedy practices.
-
Update: BHVR just confirmed they will be available again next Halloween:
https://twitter.com/DeadByBHVR/status/1585315360697466887Any time-limited DLC isn't defensible whatsoever to me. If you think I'm being hysteric about seasonal cosmetics, you're trying to compare real merchandise (halloween costumes, christmas lights, etc...) to non-material content.
-
The idea that the current shrine having 4 random perks (sometimes even less because of archive challenges) per week be sufficient while the game has currently 200+ perks is so laughable.
-
Awesome but I wish we had a bit more. I think the mobile game had animated emojis/stickers? Would it be possible for those to be added as well?
-
I blame everyone that thought this tactic would be used only for "seasonal" cosmetics. Look at this mess you let in.
-
Only discovering now that those 2 rift skins are time-limited.
-
I think we're really need to ask the team what's up with all those cosmetics debacles those last few weeks in their next Q&A.
-
This a malicious FOMO tactic and should be called out appropriately.
######### that.
-
They feel very Gacha game style because they are very Gacha game style.
The only way to get those moris is to roll for specific outfits.
-
Cowards, let us play as Carl!
-
Probably an ugly sweater?
-
Agree, it would really be great.

But why are people not upset about other games for doing it then?
Fortnite for example, is very popular. It has over 1,000 skins and NONE of them are available permanently. All of them are on a rotating basis and are only available for a limited time in the Item Shop until their return. That might be 30 days or it might be 2 years.
Yes, Fortnite is a free game, but I don't think a game needs to be free to follow this practice when it comes to cosmetics. Although I do feel that DBD should be a free game and hope it takes that route eventually.
They should be upset, but the fact is that the majority of Fortnite players are kids not even aware of this.

It is hard for me to get mad at them for FOMO marketing. It is probably the most common strategy used today in all sectors so why wouldn't they use it. I would consider it shady if it was directed at children but this game is rated 18+. Also, these are just skins that don't do anything. I still can't believe people spend any money on these when there are plenty of free ones that you can get.
Doing it because others are doing it too is not a excuse.

Well I don't like it either, but for me the only cool one is the Oni skin, Jane skin is ok and can be obtainable with iridiscent shards. The Dwight skin is awful and the umpteenth meme skin he receives, I hate the meme skins in general except for The Clown (more "lore friendly"). The Wesker one is the average and uninspired blighted skin of all the years.
She isn't obtainable with Shards.

Pretty sure they have brought back every limited, exclusive, and special event cosmetic aside from Legacy skins
Not the 4th and 5th anniversary crowns, the Bop the Snout mask, and other cosmetics from rifts that weren't part of a outfit if I remember correctly.

Wait, so even Mikaela's and the Doctor's one year-old skins are time limited?
Wow, just wow.
Yes, that was announced as the same time as Dwight and Jane"s outfits.
-
They just published a blogpost about those cosmetics...
In celebration of the season of fear, we’re bringing out two of our spookier Collections: The Hallowed Blight Collection and the Tricks and Treats Collection. Both are now available in Dead by Daylight’s in-game store. No explication about the time-frame. GOD, THIS BLOWS.

I see the cause for alarm here, and I think some clarification on this matter is necessary, but I'm not too worried about BHVR trying to pull the wool over our eyes. They don't always make the best decisions (imo), but they're not this negligent or malicious.
Personally, I find the current cosmetic store format stale and uninspiring. Everything always being available might be better for my purchasing habits, but I've no motivation to purchase any cosmetics for my characters because everything looks like unwanted, outdated fashion that has been hanging on display a little too long.
I'll wait patiently to see which direction they are going here, and voice my concerns if it is revealed they are doing something I strongly oppose.
BHVR has a business to run--I don't blame them for exploring sales tactics that will help their bottom line.
I can assure the alternative to our current store format would be a rotation store like in Fortnite or Apex Legends. That would leaves us with not a single cosmetic being available to buy at anytime, having to depends on twitter feeds or tierce apps or having to log in daily to see what is currently available, and very probably seeing the cosmetic you want in such a tiny time-frame that you can't guarantee the opportunity you'll be free that day so you can buy it.
Again, it ######### sucks.

They're part of the same collection as Mikaela's last year, something a lot of people are completely overlooking. I'd say it's safe to assume that holiday themed cosmetics will only be around for their specific holiday.
Kate and Hag's event tome skins will probably be on the store next October, along with Mikaela, Dwight, Jane, and Doctor.
Mikaela and the Doctor are their own collection. Kate and the Hag belong to the sale collection as Dwight & Jane. And there are no guarantees they will return next year.

Technically aren't the prime skins also time limited? I want my artist outfits but idk if they're ever gonna come to the store :(
Yep. I also hope they will be coming to the store at a later date, especially since they are not a collection especially made for Amazon Prime, but from already established collections.

That is letting panic take over- we don't know until we know. @LichQueen also just made a really good point supporting my comment that the skins are most likely limited to the Halloween season, not a one-shot and gone forever. It makes sense given bhvr has said time and time again that they do not want exclusives (after legacy skins).
Ultimately, it's just cosmetics. The point isn't to 'collect em' all'.
I may be a minority but I have always enjoyed how bhvr runs their shop. If I want something I can just buy it. No loot boxes, no rng. Sometimes those cosmetics are 'free' with shards, and that is a nice bonus.
I am basing my fears on the current Chinese version of Dead by Daylight mobile. That game has gacha mechanics, a bigger amount of unmixable outfits and time-limited cosmetics. Everything in that monetization system repulses me.
I am here because I do not want the core game to become like this. And I agree with your sentiment on the current shop: I I want something, I'll buy it. With my money. When I want. When I can. We are now living in a world with a recession and money isn't always as easy come as before. And now BHVR is introducing unjustifiable imaginary timeframes to force us to buy, otherwise we would miss it. I say no. Even if it comes back to a later date, this is still manipulative, something I didn't expect this company to do.

@FancyMrB said:
Some skins being limited time only is not the end of the world. If they did this for everything, yes it would be an issue and big turn off, but for now that doesn't seem like the case. Plus for all we know the Halloween skins are limited for Halloween season. They could be back next year, and at a discounted price to make way for newer cosmetics.
Not the end of the world, but it could be the beginning of the end of the game we love.

There is a lot of things that people with anxiety avoid.
...and? This is like the most tame sentence ever.

@Johnny_XMan: "As you yourself aren't even sure what the "Available for a limited time only" really means (based on your previous comments), yet proceed to lash against it as if you did."

I could believe that a majority said no and BHVR simply decided to go through with it anyways.
Then, what would be the point of surveys? I hope we are wrong on this subject.
-
Yep.
-
I really wish we could see the survey results. I cannot comprehend people agreeing to this.
-
I get that there is money that need to be made.
That's not just the right way to do it.
Having some outfits being available only with Auria Cells was enough.
Not this BS.
-
An explanation on why the cosmetics are time-limited would be good.
...Accepting it... is another story. One I refuse to.
-
How about the same tactic than the old Rift outfits? Available to all to buy 1 year later. There was no point in changing that.
-
To me, even if those outfits came back next Halloween, it's still awful.
What is the technical reason we can't buy them outside of Halloween? None. We are talking about immaterial content, there cannot be a shortage of it. Any argument trying to rationalize such is ridiculous and should be treated as a joke.
-
Very fearful this is a test to implant a rotation store and I hope I am wrong on that. This is how VHS lost me, very quickly.

True. That's why we should force a change by not spending our money.

Do not forget that the Mikaela & Doctor outfits from last Halloween will also be available in the store... for a limited time too.
Sure, for the lot of us who have played last year, this is nothing. But for newcomers that started after last Halloween, that makes 4 outfits to be time-limited for purchase.
-
Agreed.

I doubt they would do that, that would be so damaging for the health of the game. I hope they have not become so greedy as to do that though.
Even if it was clearly not their intention, the Stranger Things chapter is already doing that.
-
There are no guarantees those cosmetics will return, so you are right to assume the worst.
-
I am genuinely afraid that this is a test for whole chapters being released as such. A time-limited survivor/killer would just be incredibly greedy and disastrous.
-
Dead by Daylight is one of those rares GaaS that have a minimal FOMO compared to others, and I was wishing they would eventually address that one day. I was wrong, they are willing to becoming worse.

I kind of disagree? It can be annoying, but it's not "shell out your money NOW or lose FOREVER" annoying. There's a big difference between having to wait a few months to get something and never being able to get that thing again, to the point where I don't think they're comparable.
I would much rather have cycling cosmetics than permaretiring cosmetics.
I'm also skeptical we have any negotiating power at all when the marketing department's MO has been to power through regardless of community feedback. Remember cosmetic sets? At this point, I'd take whatever scraps I can get above rock bottom.
And I am tired of having to compromise and to choose between two awful things because one isn't "that" bad.
Cosmetics being available in multiple time-frames is bad and pointless, at this point, just make it available all the time.
Cosmetics being available in only one time-frame is BS and should not be ignored: any validation coming from the community would result in more time-limited fuckery. I might be the only one to have done so but I responded in those surveys that they should add charms to the in-game store to prevent any FOMO at all.
-
@Mooks said:
Well hopefully that means they would still be available for future Halloween events? Like, time limited but not only one timeframe? Pretty please?
Being restricted to multiple timeframes is still awful. Do not try to negotiate with that, it could lead to more awful practices.
-
Joining everyone here to say that this new "time-limited" to buy feature is goddamn awful. There are already a ridiculous amount of games who doing this that repulses me and I really hope BHVR can correct themselves on this.
There is no fun in being oppressed to buy something in such a short window because "it will never come back". Oh really? You only have a short stock of those outfits you can sell? This is the same BS tactics that the cryptobros uses, and I am so ashamed that BHVR would fall so low.
If this is the path Dead by Daylight is headed, well I cannot recommend this game anymore to my friends.
