My experience is when I’m starting to come back as killer with 1 gens left, boom there is key escape.
Thats why i almost always use franklins. Even they sometimes they can still escape with keys because they found it in chest, or just drop it beforehand and comeback for it.
And postgame chat makes it even worse..
Just give a gg and move onto your next game. It will save you a load of bother with getting into the pointless back and forth with morons.

Very often. There is a reason why so many people complain about it.
2 gens left with 2 ppl left? Or 1 gens left with 3 ppl left? Very often they ended with key escape, robbing me my kills where i can do nothing about it. Hell they don’t even need to bring a key, you can just stumble across one and get your free escape.
I think the complaints are generally more to do with how unfair a key escape feels as opposed to the sheer volume of them.
Don't get me wrong. It's a bs mechanism. I just personally haven't came across many key escapes in my nearly 2k hours.

It was infectious blight and yes blame the survivor for killer playing like scumbag
No no no. I don't blame anyone because I wasn't part of the game.
YOU should look at the performance of YOUR team and consider how YOUR team allowed the killer to slug everyone without a gen being done.

Is this serious question? How are we supposed to not get slugged at killer who refuse to pick up survivor? We did manage to get up few times at some point it was impossible because everyone were injured and took him one hit to down them back to ground if killer decided to slugg u either can help ur team or do gens either way u lose because u can't neither save them nor u can do 5 gens urself
Also don't u know through players gameplay if we're toxic or not? So if u see swf u ur first thought is "idk if they're toxic but I'll still play scummy" nice one
Unless you are going against infectious nurse, or get really unlucky with haunted grounds, getting slugged at 5 gens is absolutely your collective fault as a team.
If one of you can't manage to lead the killer on a long enough chase to get the other survivor up, then you need to seriously improve your looping skills.
If you can't manage to get healed in time, then you might want to consider bringing medkits or self heal. Or coordinate for quick heals.
If you don't do any one of these things, you still have several perks which can nullify slugging.
-
I must be one of the only ones that prefers playing them as killer. I find many of the other maps quite dark. Too easy for iron will survivors to crouch around in.
Plus they tend to be good maps for huntress snipes.

I never see camping in red ranks. There's just not enough time.
That's my experience as well. If I'm not actively disrupting survivors at all times, then gens are gonna pop left and right.

this is a non issue. devs have said only 2-3% of matches end with keys.
Basically this.
How often do you lose a kill to a key?
I honestly can't think of any in the last couple of months.

Beast of Prey in it's current form is really, really bad. It's way to situational and the reward isn't that great, the perk rewards you by prolonging a chase which is: bad.
My rework would be something like:
When you enter a chase, gain a 5% Haste status effect for 10 seconds
Beast of Prey has a cool-down of 60/50/40 seconds
It would help get the first hit and maybe not be that strong (idk ptb time?)
But if we want to stick with the bloodlust mechanic it's famous for how about:
You no longer lose or reset Bloodlust by breaking a pallet
Thoughts?
Negating the loss of bloodlust would be more beneficial than the speedboost on most killers, as the first hit is usually the easiest one to obtain.
The exception would be bubba. This would be absolutely evil on him.
It would be a good perk for beginners, just like technician for survivors. But probably wouldn't touch the current meta.

BBQ and Spies work for me for finding survivors, Sloppy+Thanataphobia give decent slowdown in the teens ranks. I've gotten 4Ks out of this perk setup many times. Even on Haddonfield I average a 2K. But that's when highest rank in lobby is 10, 9 at most.
I have faced full red rank flashlight bully squads 3 times in the past week. The issue isn't my perks, lack of addons (clowns non-iridescent addons don't have that much of an impact if you play him as an M1 killer with a little "Flair"), or even the map. I had an EGC 1k all but secured until those 2 reds swooped in with a bodyblock to guard the unhook, then the unhooker bodyblocking the chase. That's skills you don't really see much as a mid-teens killer. Also, they hid the fact that they were skilled until the gates opened. again, not something you see in mid-teens lobbies.
The Matchmaking is making Red Ranks smurf for free. THAT is the issue here.
That perk combination will work for you until you come up against competent survivors, as evidenced by this game. At mid teens rank, you should be stomping survivors at your same rank, irregardless of your perks.
If you had no survivors dead by the egc, then unfortunately you didn't have anything secured.
I'm not denying that matchmaking is a problem. I've experienced it myself when coming up through the ranks. It can be completely demoralising when you are learning killer, and infuriating when you are matched with teammates well below your skill level.
But it helps to look at your own gameplay and see things you can fine tune to increase your chances of winning. The correct perk choices, on the correct killer, will the right add-ons and the right style of gameplay will help everything to click together. All of the small changes can make a big difference.
And to be brutally honest, red rank survivors aren't the god level players you might think they are. For the most part they are a mixed bag, with plenty of potatoes.
As the other poster said, they were probably an swf, which is a whole other can of worms.

I mean, you thought this was a debate?
Sorry to break it to you, but I don't find a simple forum post regarding a 5+ year old game a debate unless it's super serious.
You have your points, I have mine. Agree to disagree. And I never wanted to win everyone. Simple as that.
Ya'll are pretty much nobodies on the internet.
We'll never meet, talk nor spend time together so why would I even invest anything personal to you all? Silly.
Do what you wish and stay cool.
Well, you started a conversation with your post. Others including myself raised logical, well thought out points to counter your post, and then comedy ensued, in the form of your following postulations.
Debate might not have been the appropriate word in retrospect.
Nobody is looking for anything from you. After all, we are all just nobodies on the internet.
Good luck with your next games.
I sincerely hope you don't run into any more basement dwelling Bubba's.

You do realize this started off as a Bubba camping thing right?
It just happened to have strained into a general "camping" discussion.
Like I said, do whatever you please.
Camp, Tunnel, T-bag whatever.
But you should also acknowledge that it's a ridiculous decision for both parties. It's called self-reflection. People should try it more often.
And regarding devs' comments, I can't find the exact source but this post says it pretty clear.
https://steamcommunity.com/app/381210/discussions/0/135513549098969802/
So judging by the comments, the devs said it's okay, but they are frowning upon it saying it's dumb even for dumb killers.
So all in all, I still remain by the fact that Bubba is a killer who exploits camping to the max.
While I do dislike camping, it's a choice, but Bubba is just on a whole nother level.
Like every other reply in this thread, you are grasping at the wrong end of the stick.
If you would have started a thread saying that face camping is scummy etc.. the I think most people would have been on board. Where you have lost everyone is whn you have tried to insist that it is specifically an exploit, as opposed to a cheap game tactic.
As your own words say, it is a dumb tactic. Meaning not beneficial to the killer. This does not equate to an exploit.
I'm glad that you brought up the concept of self reflection, as I feel it would serve you well to reflect on your tenuous grasp of this games core mechanics, as well as debates in general.
-
Seriously if this thread is anything to go by, I think you need to do less "reading in between the lines" and more reading and comprehending of what is actually on the lines.
It will save you a lot in the long run.

You literally added a few words in front of the definition I pulled out of, so go figure.
And plus, you should also read my post again before replying.
I said that camping was an exploit of the GAME'S DESIGN.
Meaning Dead By Daylight was meant to be played as a continuous, paced game, not sit and stare stimulation.
Is this so hard for people to understand? Why's everyone pretending that camping is not normal nor was it intended by the devs from the very start?
The devs frown upon tea-bagging, camping, tunneling and etc, but that doesn't mean they can straight-out ban it.
Because, like they said: "It's a viable option".
And I repeat myself again, sure do whatever you please, but what's so hard about acknowledging it's a literal exploit of a killer and a game mechanic 🤔?
No. What actually happened was that you tried to prove a point by bringing out a particular dictionary definition of a word to fit your narrative. That's because you don't understand that context is king in discussions.
"Dead by Daylight was meant to be played as a continuous, paced gam, not sit and stare simulation." That is solely YOUR OPINION. Players are free to play the game in any way they see fit, within the established rules.
Have the Devs stated that they frown upon teabagging, camping or tunneling? If so, where have they stated this? If not, can you please stop trying to impose your own opinions in their place?

Here is a definition of Exploit from Merriam Webster:
"to make use of meanly or unfairly for one's own advantage"
CAMPING IS AN EXPLOIT OF THE GAME'S DESIGN.
Got that now?
Geez now I must pull out the definition of words for yah? Just because you don't understand?
I specifically mentioned that Bubba was never intended to be a camping meme during his development.
Players, however started to exploit his capabilities and thus the whole camping Bubba started.
Teabagging is the same.
It's supposed to be used as a crouch mechanic and yet people started to use it as a toxic mean.
That's an exploit of the developer's game design.
Devs did state that camping and tunneling are viable, but they did say that it's not an optimal game decision. Meaning they have negative viewpoints about them.
Sheesh.
Yet again I implore you to actually read my posts before pulling out a dictionary and replying.
I specifically said "in the context of this game".
An exploit, as widely accepted in the context of this game, is an unintended feature utilised and abused as a means to gain an unfair advantage.
The Devs make a point of patching out any known exploits, i.e. forever mending legion etc...
Teabagging is irritating but provides no unfair advantage.
Yes the Devs stated that camping is not an optimal game decision. Meaning that it's not optimal for the killers gameplay. I.e. it hurts the killer, in the form of pressure loss, BP's and depipping. It doesn't mean any other reason that you are trying to interpret it as.
If you are going to reply to me again, I would advise you to actually read my post properly, and think before clicking the post comment button.

Camping is an exploit.
It wasn't intended by the devs. They just happened to allow since it'll cause all the ruckus by the community.
Just like T-bagging is an exploit and moon-walking is.
Bubba was meant to be a one-shotable killer like Hillbilly, but people started to exploit that and devised a dumb strategy to camp.
Like I said, just because the devs allowed it to be "viable" it doesn't mean it's an intended result. Get that straight.
I think you need to do some research on the word exploit, especially in context with this game.
Absolutely none, not one, of any of your examples are in any way exploits.
You can teabag in any game where you can crouch. Same thing for any first person view multiplayer game.
I hate to break it to you, but camping existed before hillbilly was introduced....
And if you would have read my post correctly, you would have noticed that I stated that the Devs have EXPLICITLY stated that both camping and tunneling are ok. If you do a bit of research on the forum, I'm sure you can find the Devs response.
Get that straight 👍

how is this even close to winnable? and by win I mean getting a kill, what with the body blocking and all. I did get my BBQ stacks, but that pretty much it. I admit that I used the Haddonfield offering, but the match right before had three 20s and a 12. I might have wanted to spice it up, but not like THAT!
EDIT to add: Not hating on the red ranks here, they didn't know that the matchmaker had borked up this bad. They're probably nice people.
To be honest, you picked a very weak killer, picked the most busted map in the game, brought no add-ons and were running perks with very little value.
The outcome was probably going to be the same irregardless of the survivor ranks.

It's a waste of time for everyone and most importantly, unfun.
It's an exploitation of the game's mechanic and just because the devs didn't flat out disprove of this, people started to take it for granted and made every single game a nightmare for everyone (except for the killer of course).
It made me feel sad seeing my other survivors trying to approach the basement for a rescue but just had to circle around and give up.
All the killer did was just do 360 turns using his mouse to scout the surroundings.
Unfun? Yes.
An exploit? Absolutely not.
The Devs have explicitly endorsed both camping and tunneling as valid strategies.
Just move onto the next game.

It isn't. It doesn't stop tunneling in the slightest. They'll still go right back to you after 5 seconds. It doesn't just make them not tunnel. It never did.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2098419#Comment_2098419
Last 8 games say otherwise when I get immediately downed off the hook before being able to move 5ft. Then, after death, see that the killer doesn't do the same thing to the other survivors. If that's not singling me out, idk what is.
Perhaps your teammates should have taken more care in unhooking you.
Honestly, the amount of players who are surprised that the killer will go after the unhooked survivor when you unhook in their face is astounding.
DS is anti tunnel, not anti stupid.

Again to spell it out very slowly if the devs want to have camping theb fine. My point is about how to fix camping if they want to which it seems they do. They just ho about it poorly. And can someone walk me through how having the hook timer not go down didn't stop the camping if it was tried in the past?
What makes you think the Devs have any intention to address camping?

That’s the point. You’re not meant to expect that you can prevent the first 1 or 2 gens to be repaired early in the match.
You’re meant to identify the best areas to turn into death zones with your traps. A Trapper is meant to be threatening and grow in lethality mid/late game.
It’s all too easy to get caught up in Trappers weaknesses, whilst overlooking that Trapper is one of the few killers in the game that can injure survivors without being anywhere near a survivor, or end chases without having started one to begin with. It’s easy to forget just how strong an ability it is when survivors accidentally stumble into a trap.
The key word you have used here in regards to his power is 'accidental'. The trappers power relies more than most on survivors mistakes. It's difficult to force your power on them.
With the current escape mechanic, a survivor getting trapped across the map does absolutely nothing for you in most cases. They will have most likely escaped by the time you get across.
Also, your power can be completely disabled by survivors, penalty free (with the exception of certain add-ons), simply by disarming traps and dead-harding through them.
He is most definitely one of the weakest killers. This is coming from a rank 1 trapper main.

maybe they should limit the stun and time, now that you've said that i understand a little more but i still dont really agree that ds needed that big of a nerf, if they made stun time lower, ds timer lower and cancelled it when another surv is hooked, it would still be a good perk to run but killers wouldnt be unfairly dsed 24/7
The problem is that if they nerfed the stun time, then it would most definitely be useless for survivors.
Depending on the map, it can already be hard enough to make it to a pallet with the 5 second stun.
-
All of the killer perks you mentioned are strong. They are also conditional in that you must hook a certain number of survivors or have full totems remaining. They also all have the facility to be be disabled permanently by cleansing totems.
Are any of the strongest survivor perks conditional?
Does the killer have the ability to disable or bypass them?
I'll leave my thoughts on tunneling to the other discussion for simplicity.
No problem dude, I hope you enjoy the forum. It's always good to have decent people to debate with 👍

as you said on my forum, we all have different answers to things, i think tunnelling is when the killer either only goes for you after you get unhooked or if the killer cant catch someone else when they go for you, you could think different but i dont see how ds needed that major of a debuff??
DS needed a nerf for several reasons. The fact the if all 4 survivors ran it, the as I a killer you would have to deal with some incredibly unfair situations. Potentially four instances of 5 second stuns. Four full minutes of invulnerability for the survivors. Loss of pressure for the killer.
When you add perks like unbreakable and soulguard to this, you are basically denying the killer the opportunity to down, hook and kill survivors.

He already got everybody. I was the last one, he closed the hatch and patrolling two close gates. I was going to die anyways but I was doing a relatively decent job of looping him and he hit me going over a window. I could see it being used in a new killer but he was rank 5. It just made me laugh because he was a decent enough killer which is why the use of NOED just smacks of insecurity.
If all other survivors were dead, and the hatch was closed, then you were going to die anyways.
Using noed doesn't necessarily mean you are an insecure killer. Some use it to punish gen rushers. You will also find that at the highest levels of the game , tournament play, noed is a must pick for any killer.
I personally don't use noed, as I prefer to have 4 perks for most of the game.
Just out of curiosity, what perks and items were you running that game?
-
@dannyghost said:
i feel you can still be targeted/tunnelled even if you hop on a gen after getting unhook, they should have made it so if someone gets hooked while your ds is active then it cancels.
If you have time to hop on a gen, then how could you possibly be getting tunnelled?
-
Welcome to the forum.
You would be better to start separate discussions on the different subjects your are discussing. It makes it easier to follow.
I regards to your experience with match results, they are just your experiences. You can't reach a significant conclusion to the game with just anecdotal experience. Other people's experiences can be vastly different. Ask any 2 people on this forum about which is the stronger role, and you will probably get 2 different answers.
In regards to the Devs favouring killer perks over survivor perks, you should look at killer perks on the DBD wiki. Quite it of them have been significantly needed. Most of the time with good reason. I would agree that survivor perks have probably received more nerfs. This is because survivor perks in general are stronger, with more potential to be game breaking (I'm looking at you original mettle of man).
All of the situations you have described for DS to be necessary in are situations in which you are not being tunnelled. Why should you receive 60's of invulnerability when NOT being tunnelled? If you have time to heal or do a gen, then you have time to run to a safer part of the map.

It certainly wouldn't be redundant if he ended up with a 4k because of it.

So, you advocate to play swf instead of solo. Because in solo, you cant even rely on people healing you, and tanking a hit for you while still unhooked and you are injured and on death hook is still a rare thing (if enough gens are done at least). I play only solo, and i experienced that time and again.
But i run ds next to never anyway, even before the change (only if i have a daily or challange with a survivor with no "better" perks), so it really does not affect myself. But still this things do happen.
Nice strawman argument there. In no way did I advocate for anyone to play SWF.
It's easy enough to find other survivors in the game. There are even some perks you can equip to help.
Unless you are playing at low ranks, it's pretty rare for other survivors not to heal you. Everyone is usually greedy for BP's and altruism.
If you rarely run DS, then why are you bothered by the nerf?

If you were ever in an swf/solo and you ever unhooked me and ran across the map to keep your DS up instead of healing/gen rushing I would drop you from group so fast I swear these comments are green ranks. This is what im talking about guys, you seem to be to focused on the perk itself as oppose to thinking how it will have use which it doesnt now. You guys are making way to specific situations that dont happen in high rank gameplay.People out here saying “just dont do gens or heal or anything except hide in a locker it works perfect” lmao yall are green ranks.
First off, I'm an experienced rank 1 killer and survivor. Don't assume that anyone with an opposing view has less hours/skill in this game than you.
Secondly, any competent survivor wouldn't make any playstyle decisions based on keeping their DS up. I was responding to someone who was giving excuses as to why DS shouldn't deactivate in certain situations, because it seems like his playstyle revolves around it entirely.
Thirdly, DS still quite clearly does have a use. A single use mind you. To give you a one-time chance against a killer who tries to you straight off the hook, That's it. It's one, single, intended use. It's up to you to find a use for it within your build.
You seem to want it to allow you to achieve other objectives, unmolested.
Sometimes it's better to keep quiet and have people think your stupid rather than open your mouth and prove them right.

working on a gen, yes, healing, no. It is quite simple to be tunneled and still heal, like on paletts, or if you try to juke the killer. You can use that while he tunnels you. Also, if you get away and try to heal, and the killer comes back to the hook or follows you where you did go, he is still tunneling, even if you are not in a chase then. Yes, you had time to heal yourself for 2 seconds, but still.
I believe healing oneself should only deactivate ds once you are fully healed again.
Edit: also i saw DS used several time yesterday, and in 2 cases it let the user escape through the exit gate after being unhooked. Its not useless.
How about healing when it's appropriate to do so? It's the same concept behind not unhooking survivors directly in front of the killer.
If you find that your self healing is getting interrupted, then find a teammate to heal you instead. That way they get some altruism, you retain DS until fully healed, and they can tank a hit for you if needed.

I am sorry,,,if no one comes for the survivor (which is what happens now in matches increasingly) then the killer just sits there. The rest power through the gens and win. I dont know what you think is tactical about that? It may work in the few matches where dummy survivors all rush for the save but most purple and red rank survivors are smatter than that.
Do you have any thoughts as to my points regarding tunneling?

What you are failing to consider is that there are more ways to camp than just standing in front of the hooked survivor and hoping for some potato to come running for an easy down.
The most effective way is to hook the survivor in-between 2 gens and proxy camp by patrolling between the 2 gens and survivor. When you do this, you are able to effectively protect gens whilst also robbing the survivors of 1-2 teammates.
Just because you can't see any merits to certain strategies, doesn't mean they aren't there.

Tunneling maybe if the survivor is good,,,but if the player isnt then he gets downed three seconds after getting off the hook. All your doing is going after the easy target which is maybe a tactic. Hooking a survivor then just sitting there is not a tactic at all, you cant be serious lol?? Killers who think that really need to understand the meaning of tactic
What does tactic mean?
English Language Learners Definition of tactic
: the activity or skill of organizing and moving soldiers and equipment in a military battle.
: an action or strategy carefully planned to achieve a specific end.
Does that sound at all like sitting in front of a hook, esp if no one comes to rescue and you end up losing?
By your very own words:
"An action or strategy carefully planned to achieve a specific end"
Tunnelling out or camping a weak survivor is most certainly a viable tactic. As it changes the game to a 3v1, making it much more in the killers favour.
Now the ethics or "sportsmanship" or said tactic are are another matter entirely. But you would have to be pretty dense to not see the merits of tunnelling.
-
If you want the effects of DS, then you need to run DS....
You can't expect to reap the benefits of a perk without including it in your build.
Now if you were to suggest making every game have an obsession, irregardless of perk use, that would potentially help mitigate tunneling without absolutely neutering the killer.
-

In it's current state everyone should have DS since it makes the game more healthy.
In return give killers a weaker version of Hex Ruin base as well to extend the game and make gen rushing less ridiculously broken.
No one likes being tunneled off hook.
No one likes being gen rushed before they can even play the game.
Make the game less toxic/fun to play for both sides.
Why should the power role be given a free extra second chance perk?
Aren't 4 perk slots enough?
Also from the other side, a free inbuilt ruin, albeit it weaker, would make 3 gen situations significantly more untenable for survivors.
That doesn't even touch the obvious issues with not getting to use any of the gen kicking perks.

The hags a c××× to be fair
The hag has her strengths and weaknesses like any other killer.
Camping is pretty much her only strength. But she's cannon fodder for most smart survivors.

If you can't handle basement trapper, just wait until you play against any hag!
If you could then start a thread moaning about how boring it is, that would be great.

Every once in a while survivors do get good perks, then killers complain constantly until they are nerfed into oblivion. Example = Mettle of Man.
OG mettle of man was busted as hell. Don't even try to pretend otherwise.

Imagine. Playing 6K hours and still crying about some perks :d Okey man you are not baby killer, you are good.
And also i am sorry but old ruin was also trash. Great skill checks was not problem for good survivors. But now ruin is perfect. Just start chase survivor and gen will get damage. And yes that is op advantage and no killers are not doing any effort. Because survivors will start run already when they see you. You are talking like it is so hard lol. And yes i wanna see also nerf meta killer perks. And then we can see different builds. I bored all games face with ruin, undying, bbq, usually devour hope bla bla bla. Killers also using meta perks but when survivors using meta perks they starting "no... that is not fair, those perks meta, not fair for us" bla bla bla.
It is obvious that you are not objective and ofcourse me too because we are in opposite thoughts. So bye my friend and stay care.
Ruin is "op advantage" ?
And you have the temerity to accuse anyone else of being a "baby killer" lol!

i've learned to play with my eyes and not ######### up killers stealth with 1 single perk and also have skills, spine chill users are cowards and dead hard users and awful and always do mistakes
To be fair, spine chill is a multi purpose perk, due to the gen and especially the vault speed bonus. Not necessarily just for urban evading cowards.

Literally the one thing that trapper excels at, and you wanna take that away?
How very dare you!?

You continue to question and question. Acting like it's impossible. You asked once, you were told once. Yet, you keep sitting there in disbelief as if it can't possibly be true. By association, you're calling me a liar.
I think your responding to the wrong person dude.

Damn bro your so toxic you don't even think your toxic xD. Not only that but you think "playing since the beta" makes you the lord and saviour Jesus Christ, all bow down to his holiness because he is sweaty at a game. I started playing in August so what am I classed as? Trial God? Trial Demi-God?
Judging from your liberal and frankly ridiculous use of the word "toxic" in this thread, you would be better served by spending some time learning what it actually means, in the context of this game.

Does this work better for you?

You're literally arguing for people to be able to 'save' their DS for later, even when they're not getting tunnelled.
I wouldn't expect any meaningful response to this. The OP's a bell-end.

Umm no this particular game he hooked and camped then sat there when others tried to get the rescue and downed two other players. So yes it does happen. This is expressly why I run Kindred to see if he is camping so I can just continue on my gen.
That quite clearly is a failure on the part of the survivors. If 2 different survivors manage to get downed while trying to unhook, that is solely down to their own mistakes.
Unless both survivors were injured ( in which case they shouldn't have been going for the rescue), then how did a killer with no instadown manage to possibly get both of them?
