Nothing against what you are aiming for here but I have to disagree, there is no point in changing a specific characters lore to fit with what suits you or LGBT community. Maybe in future DLC we will see a character which will fit this role.
PS Nice Tattoo, I also really enjoy playing as David too although he is kinda loud when he is injured.
I agree with you, I think you can take and admire parts of David kings character such as his protective nature, his all or nothing approach and his determination to keep wanting to try and try (from his perks).
I feel like there will be an original Survivor who will more than likely just happen to have a mention or hint about their sexuality. Just a gut reaction. I mean they are running out of possible options which make survivors different from each other.
-
I personally think if a new Survivor was released and in the bio it had a line about sexuality then it would be a nice touch. Every Survivor follows a theme we've got the gen repair nerd, runner girl, healing expert and the survivalist. We have a methhead, a TV show host, a reserved rocker guy, a musician maybe a Survivor who just loves and respects is near.
I think a Survivor with the theme of love and respect to everyone and everything is interesting and in no way at all infringing upon controversy.
It doesn't have to state specifically the actual sexuality and use it as a label.
It might sound a little dumb of an idea but there's definitely a gap for a 'lover' Survivor in dbd. Coming with perks which help unify teammates or something like that.
Just think how can respect to fellow players be possible in the game. Perhaps a new offering which benefits everyone. Maybe even just removing pointing, teabagging and other toxic stuff during chase. A base level of respect.

This is nice but...
When people read "As a gay person myself I think it can be easy to just pretend you're just an ordinary straight person" people don't think "I don't know any openly gay people in person" or "I still to this day feel like I have to pretend to be a straight person".
There's more that I want to say in response to this, I think, but my exhaustion is affecting my ability to spot what I'm taking fault with and forming responses.
β¦ Sorry to hear that you are surrounded by hostile people though.
Also I'm tired too I'm not gonna continue listening to you quote me and then say I meant something else. Change the tone of the discussion and I'll be more than happy to discuss whatever you like. There's nothing to gain from heating it up.
And a final thing for now, I made it clear in my post that I didn't really know how to phrase my poll so it's not really fair to paint me as whatever eventhough the very reason I wanted to make this poll was to see if I'm one of many people who have to endure being different. It's a touchy subject but if you look at the results so far then it's clear how many voters have a similarity of being different from expected 'traditional' Straight people.
That final line there, I have no idea what word to use instead of traditional or ordinary. What I do know is that there is no ill intent whatsoever. I want to defend my point because it's personal to me but I don't really want to fuel this discussion with you right now.

Yeah, pretty much as I expected.
"First of all if you are going to take something I said out of context"
Pretty darn sure I'm taking complete statements and responding to them. Of which aren't lacking context as a result.
And trying to tell me to "let you clarify before going off on a tangent" when this isn't a live chat and people have to type out full responses is foolish.
I also don't have to "keep it relevant", I'm responding to YOU and what YOU have said.
You're in a completely different thread from the one where you referenced something that I said and you took out of context and then yapping on about it. I suggest not arguing in this thread because it's already been heated here before and if you continue this thread will be closed.

You're trivialising too much. I used the word 'ordinary' and you're misinterpreting it's meaning.
I don't really want to discuss with someone who keeps picking apart everything I say looking for something to be outraged about. You said you're tired, maybe once you're more awake you'll make sense of my point.

"As a gay person myself I think it can be easy to just pretend you're just an ordinary straight person and keeping any oddity or difference to yourself because you'd assume people would take it in a bad/good way."
"just pretend you're just an ordinary straight person"
"just" "just an" "ordinary"
π€
"I don't really see what issues you might have with my original post other than misinterpreting what I say."
I actually think I've interpreted your OP correctly. However, I would want to do this in a separate comment.
"If you point out where I can edit it to sound more friendly."
I don't think you'll be editing this, actually. I have problems with quite a few important bits, you're more likely to snap at me and start calling me -ist labels.
You can say whatever you like, you're entitled to your view as long as it's given in a fair and respectable manner.

"It doesn't necessarily mean "let's make a character gay" but more "can we see some sort of appreciation towards people of various walks of life, backgrounds and sexualities etc from some characters"
Claudette. Adam. Feng. You already have representation.
Here's a question: Why is this important? Why must people see appreciation in a horror game?
Don't get smart and go "WELL ITS NOT IMPORTANT PEOPLE JUST WANT TO" you know what I mean.
The answer: You shouldn't. You shouldn't be expecting a horror game to be showing appreciation for anything. If you are looking to fictional media to validate you, you need help.
"Personally if it talked more in depth about feelings and emotions and stuff like that in some characters lores then it makes them feel more human and relatable."
Being gay = more relatable now. Nice. This is one reason why people are against LGBT characters.
You're the same guy/gal who went and indirectly insulted straight people by saying they were "ordinary". This is to be expected tbh.
"I think having a character to relate to can make you really enjoy the game much more."
And I think whoever is automatically enjoying a game more because there's a character who shares a trait with them has twisted values.
You seem nicer compared to other woke/PC people so I'm more hesitant about getting harsh with you (in fact I find myself wanting to preemptively apologize) but it isn't important.
First of all if you are going to take something I said out of context then at least let me clarify before going off on a tangent. Also keep it relevant to the original point which was made.
-
Actually I just read my post. I was describing my experience of feeling like I had to pretend that I was ordinarily straight like everyone else I know. Ordinarily meaning that I don't know any openly gay people in person and I still to this day feel like I have to pretend to be a straight person. I'm not really surrounded by nice people. My family and a lot of people in my neighborhood are really homophobic and I just don't feel like I should bother making it public or whatever.

I agree with the Pig main, you say straight people are "ordinary" @AshleyWB It can rub off as insulting.
I also have quite a few problems with your OP. Of which I want to write about. But it's late and I currently have that text bug that replaces what I write when I try to correct something earlier in my post...
I never said it's ordinary to be straight. I said it's more common for people to identify as straight. At least that's what I think I said.
I realized that the options in this poll can easily overlap too.
I don't really see what issues you might have with my original post other than misinterpreting what I say. If I did happen to cause offense then there was no I'll intention and it would have been accidental. If you point out where I can edit it to sound more friendly.

Ok back on topic.
I reread the original post and I think many of us are missing the point as to what he says.
"I know one person's request might not be heard, but I know there are alot of LGBT people who play this game, and looking at other online games who have had LGBT characters written into the law such as overwatch. It would mean the world to us if we could just have one character who we can say "this game shows us pride, respect and love.""
It doesn't necessarily mean "let's make a character gay" but more "can we see some sort of appreciation towards people of various walks of life, backgrounds and sexualities etc from some characters"
Personally if it talked more in depth about feelings and emotions and stuff like that in some characters lores then it makes them feel more human and relatable.
I think having a character to relate to can make you really enjoy the game much more. It doesn't mean it has to be sexuality that you have in common. Like for example I used to do that thing where I hold my hand up Infront of my mouth in shyness just like Dwight does. I feel like I have a lot of similarities to Dwight and it's really engaging thinking about that.
Same can be said if you have anything else in common with someone in dbd.
-
I think trying to school/lecture other players is you trying to belittle them in most cases. Mostly because the strategy they did or did not use ended up proving too difficult to overcome. Chances are it wasn't really more difficult you just adopt a risky playstyle which makes it easy for the other side. Talking broadly about it, not on this occasion from the original post.

Gay, 24.
Very put off by the fact that you're trying to say diversity is good, then blatantly insult straight people calling them plain and basic.
Seriously, you're part of a community that has been looked down on for ages, why keep that sort of negative attitude to judge people for being different from you?
By plain Jane I was just referring to the normality of most people identifying as straight rather than talking bad about them. Again it's hard to talk generally about such a delicate topic unless I try to clarify every single thing which may be misinterpreted as offense.
Diversity is good, it encourages acceptance and makes a community or whatever more friendly about our differences we all have. I'll edit the part you're referring to and rephrase the point I was intending to get across.
Your point is actually spot on, it was a little dumb of me reading back what I initially typed, have an upvote.
-
@Fibijean Hmmm ok then. I just thought you could have been serious and I didn't want you to make it seem like they were doing something wrong by playing the game. I'm chill now you've clarified it was a joke.
Also for anyone who wants to raise the question about infringing upon the law to play a game underage then I can say that the certificate rating is a means to highlight what audience it is suitable for, you may be required to be a particular age rating when buying but playing is a different story.
It's basically so 5 year olds don't accidentally buy the new resident evil games and find it too much to handle.
Also the certificate rating system is kinda outdated and dumb. I've got a massive gripe with how EA basically have gambling in their games and it's suitable for ages 3 and above.
Just a little insight to those who feel like you're breaking the law by playing, you're not the certificate rating is just a guideline.
I'm only going on because if it was me would be feeling as if I shouldn't be playing with the question of legality going around. I hope I put that question to bed.
Again no offense to Fibi I'm just making sure if this concern is raised again it won't hold any significance. π
-
@Fibijean Nothing wrong with playing a game you enjoy. What do you want? Everyone below the age of 18 to never be able to develop a passion for games or movies because of a stupid certificate rating which is there as guidance so you know what it is you're watching/playing.
If you think there's something wrong with being too young to play then you need to get real.
@Aldo @Aldofer Hardly a problematic poll trying to see how diverse the playerbase is. Just leave them alone the both of you.

There's currently a closed beta going on but they've not unveiled a release date.
I think they will go off how the reception and feedback of the current state of the game is.
The more buggy, boring and unbalanced it is the later the release will be. Feedback seems kinda good so far. The only bad thing is clipping through certain flooring and that it isn't a resident evil 3 remake.
Probably not until mid November at least I would think.
-
I know some of you get caught up in balance talks for dbd but Project REsistance seems so Survivor sides if they are a well organised team. It's a tough one to crack but mastermind Vs 4 separate Survivors can't really do much to make it tough for all of them at once.

well, they literally sent him an email asking for his signature, thus it is basically a contract to allow them to use the chase song... and they wouldn't bother asking for his signature if they were just going to share it on media
Objection
I'm pretty sure the signature in question was referring to the permission to share on the social media of Behaviour interactive's product named 'Dead by Daylight' thus not providing sufficient permission to use the property of the music track in their product.
I played a few hours of Phoenix Wright therefore I am a qualified lawyer/solicitor.
-
I think it would be neat if Survivors had a checkpoint system where dead teammates could revive once an objective is done. Not necessarily in the base game mode because it would destroy balance but just a casual friendly idea they could roll with in another game mode.
-
One thing which makes it such a hard question is because of the arcadey slasher feel which increases the intensity of each match. The fact that stealth is not rewarding and looping is skews the games intentions. It's more of a platformer than a horror game in most matches.
-
Too short for killer matches, too long for Survivor matches.
I think Survivor should be a quick in and escape experience. Killer should honestly come waves of gamechanging obstacles and challenges which test the Survivors other than splat, down and hook three times. Aka a second objective would make the time of each match kinda better.
-
I saw some comments exchanged between them. I thought it was just to be shared on dbd media services as in shared on the dbd Twitter account or something.
I'll investigate your claim later. I refuse to believe it and be hyped until I know for sure that it's happening.

I just wonder why you are all still here complaining and not elsewhere getting mad about another game. Surely you aren't as mad with how this game is handled as you make out.
I mean I respect your opinion if you make it in a fair way. Many 'opinions' I see here are just you having a poop fest on the Devs. It's just rude and it doesn't have to be.

Ofc to find the compromise between fixes and new content is on bhvr.
Pls lets not personalize the discussion, is always unpleasant.
I am keeping it civil but I don't see any reason why you choose to be so unpleasant and judgmental of how the devs work on their game. It's not even constructive and if you really want any changes to be made you should at least make sure you are respectful about it.
The issues are clearly evident and they don't really bother me enough to say "That's enough π π π π " As far as I'm aware any game breaking bugs are either stomped out asap or are made top priority.
-
@Redcum actually you just called the devs greedy, not caring about it's players and that's it's one step away from being a deliberate and complete cashgrab. That's definitely worthy of being labelled as an insult.

Yes they are not that big and if you look at their game portfolio DbD is their golden egg chick.
@AshleyWB I am not here to brag or tell what i do for a living but if you had the experience I have a couple of my points would make you understand i am not only a player.
I feel like pressuring/blaming/pinning or whatever you want to call them because they did a great job with DbD but they struggle with focusing on the important things.
Their 3 years event was all bells, whistles and shoulders pats, like everything was ok.i guess the reqson they are "afraid" or "slow" is:
- financial reasons (dlc sells, bugfix dont - in the mind of the moneyguy boss)
- technical debt of legacy core code
The two above usually are big elephants when a dev team has to take decisions.
The reason why playerbase doesnt die (thank god) is because onboarding of new players is good and makes up for the lost players.
If you read stats 2018 was a year of growth (until sept) and 2019 has been a year of almost zero-growth in playerbase numbers even if they had more free-weekend events compared to 2018.
Back to the main topic GAMEPLAY EXPERIENCE: PLEASE START ADDRESSING DAT STUFF BRUH!
Surely if you were a business focusing on what will make you money is a smart move.
I don't think the bugs are really bad I would call them a minor annoyance. In addition to game balance it can be challenging and even unfair but I still feel like when things aren't going your way all it takes is you to jump on the bandwagon that bugs need fixing now eventhough it effectively won't change much.
I see it as new dlc especially with licensed chapters brings in money for bug fixes, balance changes all that which everyone has complained about. It gives them the capability to allocate resources to the right areas down the line to address the issues.
What happens if there were no chapters for a year, everyone would say the game is dying because no-one wants to work with dbd. People would complain either way.
I think money definitely talks because it unlocks the opportunity to fix, add and sure up the existing game. I think patience would go a long way. You might say that you've been waiting patiently for 3 years but I think dbd has only been noticed since the Halloween chapter. Before then people would be like what's dead by daylight. A completely different view to now.
-
I mean the meaning of no mither is that "it doesn't matter" it doesn't matter about healing because you'll obviously be fine with no bloodtrials being left. There's so much killer stuff which causes excessive bleeding having some counterplay could help remould the meta perks.

@AshleyWB Fair enough. But what about folks like me who have over a decade commercial experience in game design, and have worked in the game industry?
Can I say that this game, three years post Live Launch, still feels and acts like a Beta phase game? Because it does.
That's not to say it's a bad game, it isn't. But it is a poorly managed game. That is also not on the Devs, themselves, but on those calling the shots. Beginning with Cote and moving upward along the food chain.
I mean you can voice your concerns as much as you like. I'm sure they know what needs to be done to fix the game but you know it can be hard, exhaust a lot of time and resources for potentially the same problems to still crop back up.
I think McCote is doing a really good job at putting dbd on the map but I doubt he wants to stop everything to focus on individual issues. The problems you mention have probably been something the Devs have wanted to fix since discovering them. The Devs are not magicians with a magic bug fixing wand.
Also once you start singleing out certain people then you practically close this thread yourself.

They have a good game and they cannot make it out of beta stage.
Keeping pushing out new skins and DLCS (kudos to the "new content team" for the great stuff if such thing exists (I doubt so) while:
- Dedicated Servers are nowhere near to be ready
- No DC issue has been addressed - nor from the punishing side or from the "quality of life" side (if people DC is because they are not having fun... nobody leaves the movie theater if the film is good)
- Hitboxes and hit recognition is amateurish and only getting worse now with the Dedicated Servers (please rethink it completely, take best practices from most famous multiplayer online games)
- Player retention initiatives are close to zero: they prefer to have new players rather then keeping the old ones (what's with 5 free weekends in 2019 already?)
- Ranking system makes no sense for how it works and that exists at all (why bother?)
- 90% of perks is useless
- 80% of items is useless
- 90% of addons is useless
- 70% of offerings are useless (luck offerings? lol)
- 50% of killers are useless
- 50% of killers has the same powers
- Prestige makes no sense
- Devotion makes no sense
- Genrush has not been addressed, since not much left is to do
- Hook camping has not been addressed at all
- Maps are not enough
- Exit gates rng is broken
- Swf vs solo is still unbalanced
- Learning curve and balance is the same as always
- Simply tweaking down the graphic you have different lightning and fov in every map to get advantage
- Continuous delivery pipeline that has holes everywhere, with constant regressions
How dare you criticize my favourite asymmetric horror game!!! ():
Also for someone who likely knows nothing about how to design and maintain a game you aren't in a position to tell them that they're doing a bad job. Even though you technically are a customer it's just outright disrespectful to make such brain-dead remarks about the game. A game which you are still playing btw despite how poorly the Devs have apparently done thier jobs according to you.
If you are going to criticize there's no harm in being at least the slightest bit respectful about it instead of creating a pit of nonsensical ignorance for everyone to spew into.
-
@Yung_Slug Your point makes sense and is very realistic but I also feel like you've massively overplayed how many people would be outraged by a gay character being added to dbd. If there are people who hate a gay character being in dbd well they aren't really welcome. However you mention different cultures and regions around the world having different perspectives on sexuality.
Recently in Russia they censured all the gay connotations in the Elton John movie in cinema. I feel like if a big deal was made about the next Survivor being gay then dbd could be pulled from stores in whatever country. Probably just that chapter in specific. That is the only issue here.
You could just make another version of the gay Survivor for the regions which still frown upon homosexuality where the lore is censored to not mention anything about relationships and is assumed of as straight. It's just the hard reality that you have to acknowledge if you have a global audience.
I think it wouldn't be advised to reveal the gay Survivor as part of a chapter called "The extremely gay jungle" or something like that. Just pop it in the bio and let people go crazy about it. It doesn't mean they would come in a flower outfit or a rainbow Cape or anything. Just a little line which you can interpret as meaning that they're gay. Nothing stonewall certain because you'll be able to tell anyway.
-
What if there were no Survivor with a dark skin tone? I doubt you would use the argument of "just imagine them as having a dark skin tone" I don't understand the logic behind how making a character gay is wrong. Or why such a small addition in the characters bio is so worthy of a wall of 'nope' from some of you.
Just because you might not like it that the association is made with say Dwight and him being homosexual doesn't mean anything.
I don't believe Dwight's eyesight is very good so I wear the headpieces which don't have glasses but I imagine him wearing glasses.
What if Huntress was from the red lagoon instead of the red forest, you wouldn't have the same level of outrage by that and those are bigger changes/additions to the lore.
-
Give it 2 weeks and there's a chance it will be tested on Consoles on a large scale too. Nothing official just my gut reaction.
-
I think if questions and discussions are in the same category (general discussion) then some general discussion polls should be allowed to remain in general discussion.
Polls as a sub forum should have opinion gauging purpose. Any off topic polls in the off topic sub forum. Maybe I just like things extremely organized. No harm with it being as it is though. It's still functional.
-
I think in about 9 years or whatever if there are just no players anymore then an offline mode could do wonder to boost the longevity of the game.
I expect something like dbd 2 or something to swoop the players from dbd. Not that I see the game dying because I honestly think it could be one of those that just exists for a long time with a pretty good playerbase way Down the line.
-
I think something like ruin should be base kit for killers, but only in a less annoying form until they add a secondary objective to do instead.
-
Myers has so much synergy with so many perks and his main feature which gives him a tiny or no terror radius can be devastating. Well timed T3 procs can completely snowball any team.
I hear leatherface is really good with play with your foot but my bloodweb hates giving it to me.
-
I'm rank 4 now and I've been getting some horrible matches I've just not been at it. I don't play serious enough to be red ranks constantly. I like to just listen to music and not pay much attention. It works well most of the time. When I get 1 bad game I get about 5 in one go.
-
Always been a killer main but I've been playing Survivor a lot more recently. I find killer against average skilled teams to be the most fun especially when I have a plan in mind with my build.

Okay, I know I'm not the best person to talk about this kind of thing, but I'm going to give it a try anyway.
I really don't care about the sexuality of a character. And if they do say that David is gay, I'll... still not play him much because I hate how loud he is, but I won't mind. The diversity of Survivors is what makes them unique from the Killers, and I like that. Having a gay character would just add to it. Right now, David is just the tough, English guy with an aggressive personality. What I don't want is for it to be out of the blue. Overwatch got a lot of backlash from Tracer and Solider: 76 because it was never hinted at. Ever. And then, boom... they're suddenly "always been this way," or something like that (I stopped really following Overwatch news after Hammond honestly). Build it up through the Archives. Don't just let it be the first thing that happens.
But that's just a minor issue that I, personally, have with making a character in DBD gay. My biggest issue is that... there are people in this game who don't, and don't want to, understand, or even more so, accept, what these characters are. They may be tunneled, camped, lobby dodged, etc. all because of their sexuality. And, I don't want that. And I think that's the biggest reason why BHVR has been so vague with this. The community is bad enough.
So, to end it off, if you want David to be gay, just say that he is yourself. A lot of people already pair him up with Dwight anyway. I'm just afraid of the negativity it would ignite in the game, and the controversy that it would cause. Any wrong move, and the whole game goes crashing down.
That's just my two cents on this issue. Again, I'm not the best person for this kind of thing (I'm just bad at communicating as it is), but I wanted to say something about it.
I agree with you to an extent. I just don't see a spike in homophobia happening and if it does then there are so many ways they will be dealt with accordingly.
I know there are people out there who think being gay is wrong and I feel like it's things like this which will show those people that gay people are people too.
Credit to you for voicing your opinion knowing you weren't confident on how to phrase it. It came across well and you raised some fair points.

Look here, sorry if i offended you guys, but i all these silly requests to make X character gay and X character intersex is getting to my nerves.
Yes, you can fantasize with your character being gay all you want, you can write fanfics about him having a crush with another character you like, but it will get annoying if you try to get it added into the canon of X media you character belongs to
I hope DBD one day incorporates a gay character in its cast with the maturity it should and not just tries to be that "gay friendly" video game
I dont want to continue this conversation because it will get political and thats the last thing i want in a forum like this, again, im sorry if I offended any of you guys.

I hope they implement a gay character with the maturity the subject should have, not just force it to make gay people happy, maybe my wording was not adequate
Now, its up to you if you think the game has insuficient LGBT representation, i dont agree with every single piece of media out there needing a gay character to be inclusive.
With that out of the way, again, i hope i did not offend you, it was not my intention.
Your wording made it sound as if you were talking down to gay 'folk'. It's ok it's difficult trying to be politically correct nowadays.
You do raise a good point about how certain things about characters should remain a mystery. In response to that I just think... what is the worst thing that could happen? Every homosexual player mains the one gay Survivor, if it makes people happy and feel a stronger sense of belonging then good for them. It's not like it's shoved in your face.

I have previously said something similar to the original post about how it would be neat if there were little hints which you could interpret from certain Survivors making you wonder about their sexuality and other differences.
One thing I will say is that once you start trivialising why it should or shouldn't be in the game be careful what you say because you can easily cross the line without necessarily meaning to. I see it's getting kinda heated here and it shouldn't be.
I think identifying to a character enhances the experience. Makes it overall a more engaging experience. There's nothing wrong or forceful about it.
There is no legitimate reason why there shouldn't be a homosexual character in the game. This doesn't mean that there needs to be one but I personally think it's clear how the Devs create characters of many diverse backgrounds, race, shape and sizes.
Don't act like a character being made 'gay' is not acceptable to you. I don't see any harm whatsoever and if you only slightly disagree then what harm is there to giving some players someone that they can relate to.
I'm not lecturing anyone here but I think it's important to keep it civil when talking about potentially touchy subjects which could lead to offense being made unintentionally (in most cases). I'm sure you're smart enough to not be hateful meanies.
