So is spirit powerless the entire match since she only has M1? I’m still failing to see how any downside of changing it to my suggestion is worse than the current MMR exploitation strategy to camp for kills. Even with prove thyself, you can’t do all 5 gens before the killer has camped someone to death and with NOED they can guarantee two kills. This is why Bubba is so easy to rank high up with MMR, the system is broken.
Ok, you're playing huntress on midwich. You hook a survivor on the 2nd floor, and are chasing another on the first. Suddenly, you aren't able to throw a hatchet because you walked under the hooked survivor on the floor above you. Would that be fair?
I will say, a few years ago they tried making changes to how the hooks reacted when the killer was nearby, it was so badly exploited it wasn't even funny, survivors weren't even unhooking anymore, just hanging out next to the hook. I can't imagine it was fun for anyone, least of all the guy being used as a hanging safe zone all game. That was just due to them reducing hook progress when the killer was nearby. You actually do something to make the killer less powerful near the hooks and we get that back x5

I’m not a moron, I know you can crouch. But do you think you can crouch walk away if she’s in the area? Lol.
If she's already in the area and sees you, then why are you worried about the traps?

The game has boldness/altruism etc emblems for a reason, survivors are supposed to have a chance to get them all. If they aren’t, why have the emblem system?
If killers played normally instead of camping, maybe they’d learn how to make a comeback? You aren’t even going to get back standing at the hook, you may as well just give up a killer if you need to do this every match.
The game also has insidious, which is a perk that literally encourages camping. Also, it's been years since camping made it impossible to get the unhook, so you can still get those emblems.
Also, hag putting traps around the hook isn't camping, learn to crouch.

They aren't coming in because you're the one getting off topic. It SHOULD be when they do it the whole game and facing while slugging is their mo instead of actually playing the game.
What did I type that was off topic, specifically?
-
Remember, it's always easier to blame "haters" and the game than it is to actually troubleshoot your own issues, but it never actually solves anything any more than appeals to (fake) authority do.
But hey, who knows, maybe if you name the right streamer in range of your Xbox, it will hear you and magically fix itself.

That does suck, I mean, the collision exists for a reason, but when it's abused by ######### who want to screw their teammates over it really sucks. It is reportable as far as I know.

I’m ok with allowing the Haste part of Devour as a basekit. But being able to down or permanent exposure is just asking killers to stay near hooked survivors just so you can down more survivors.
I’m not sure how to feel about BBQ as a basekit. As a survivor, I feel it gives killers too much of an edge because you’d be able to have that trigger at least 7 times in one game. On top of whatever other perk you might have to see me running around.
If they stay near hooked survivors, then they aren't getting stacks on devour for the Mori. If they are at the point of getting the Mori, (under the higher requirements, say 7 stacks instead of 5) they won't be hooking people anymore. (9hooks is a 4k after all)
BBQ doesn't last for very long, far enough away and it's basically just a guess at the survivor's general location because it's gone before you start moving.

Alright, I take it you’re regularly a killer. What would incentive you to go hunt other survivors rather then sit there watching grass grow?
Make devour hope basekit, but add 2 stacks to each requirement, so it takes more hooks to get the Mori and exposed. Also make BBQ basekit, along with Empathy on survivor side.

There's one boon that hides aura reading, and it's in an area around the blessed totem. It's nothing that crazy, though I suppose if you have 4 different blessed totems with the same, it could get nuts, but even then I don't think it would be strong enough to replace current high MMR meta builds.

It does apply to you.
You have shown repeatedly that you don't think you should have to do anything to actually troubleshoot and repair the issue causing you to disconnect. Your frequent disconnections, caused by an issue with your setup that you don't want to fix, make games worse for those you play with. That's literally why the penalty exists.
Fx your setup.

True... I feel like I'm at the end of my options though.. like what *more* can I do? I'm at the high end of whats available to me.. so with that in mind, do you find it fair that I just get disconnected while legitvtryingvto play the game and I need to just *accept* that as part of dbd life? Like "hey your doing well but now we're just going to randomly kick you in the nuts with a ban for no real applicable reason on your part.. were good right? Can you not see how that frustrates the ######### out of me?
As far as I can tell, literally all you have done is throw money at your isp, and complain here. Neither is actually troubleshooting your issue.
You said earlier you were married, that would lead one to believe you are an adult, so I don't know why you are here complaining about what is fair, when you haven't done anything to fix your issue. If your car doesn't start in the morning, do you immediately jump on the Toyota forum to complain about how bad their cars are? Or do you try and figure out why it won't start?

I'm sorry, I'd just like to play this for one day without it slapping my face. Everyone has comments but I never get a solution. I was typing an appreciation for what you said earlier but I guess I took too long.
Then you will have to do some actual troubleshooting of your setup. Whining about the penalty won't make your game work. There isn't a massive wave of dbd server outages, and no reported connection issues with the Xbox series x, so the issue is in your environment. You want someone to hand you the perfect solution, but that's not how anything in life works.

I didn't tell you that so you could pick them apart. Though I totally understand your reason for asking and saw this coming a mile away. I'll repeat it one last time so maybe you'll see my point: camping cannot be fun for killers and survivors. Give survivors an opportunity to play. Killers have 3 other people to play with. Not going to argue beyond that.
Honestly I think if devour and bbq were basekit, that would solve it. No more facecamping, and everyone gets to play. How about it?

Hate on you?

For all the other defenders of this DC penalty with all your *explanations.. tell me this: why is it when I got this last matchmaking ban because clearly according to all of you it must be my internet.. why was my wife who works from home on the same internet able to not drop the call she was on when it happened? Why is it when we check our service flow there are no breaks? Why does legit everything else in the house that uses internet experience no interruptions at all? But it can't possibly be the game screwing up, right?
Because all of those things use different data ports in both your router and modem, which may or may not be experiencing issues. They use different protocols, and have different conditions for what constitutes a failed connection vs a background reconnect or missed ping.
For example. Outlook only needs you to have internet for 5 out of every 60 seconds to work perfectly. DBD has a much lower tolerance for missed pings.
VoIP, especially in the US with our ridiculously low quality standards stays connected really well, call quality goes to crap, but again, our standards are so low for what a good call is that most don't even notice.

Not sure who your friends are but it doesn't matter how *often you dc, you get the penalty any time regardless. So maybe you and your friends just play once and a while.. I play this pretty much every day for 5 years and I've seen this unfair dc too many times to keep count bro.
Actually it's a cumulative penalty based on completed vs disconnected matches, so if you play a lot on a stable connection and don't rage quit, you are unlikely to see any penalty on the rare occasion a legit issue occurs. If on the other hand you are consistently disconnected and don't do anything to fix it, you will see longer and longer penalties.
Most of my friends, like me, are network technicians who spend our days fixing routers and switches and basically keeping the digital world spinning. That is why I speak with such confidence on this subject.

Guess I need something that doesn't exist yet to handle a 5 year old game right? When legit none of my other games act a fool like this? Wake up.
Ok, so you threw money at a company. Have you tried actually troubleshooting or do you just trust your isp to do everything for you?
The way you put it "eternity (sic) cable to fiber optic" doesn't explain much about your setup. Are you using an all in one access point from your isp, or do you have a separate modem and router? Xbox series x uses a few different ports for games, have you checked them on your router and modem to make sure they are whitelisted?
Port 88 (UDP)
Port 3074 (UDP and TCP)
Port 53 (UDP and TCP)

For as many of these "my internet and home network and console/PC work perfectly and the game disconnects me all the time for no reason" posts as we get here a week, you'd think that every match would have two instant DC, yet that isn't the case.
My internet isn't amazing or anything, but I can still count on one hand the number of times I've been disconnected mid match, which leads me to believe it's possible that the game isn't at fault. I don't even know of another person in my circle of friends who play this game that have ever been disconnected often enough to receive a penalty.

I already explained this in my earlier posts.
I thought you would appreciate the opportunity to try again, since that earlier post was just you basically saying the same thing they did, which makes it look less like valid criticism, and more like you just being extremely nit-picky, but ok
"Depending on your surroundings, make use of the environment by dropping pallets and vaulting windows or simply run as far from the killer as possible."
So your version is more verbally jumbled. Their version broke pallets and windows up, so that the video can show each one and avoid confusion. Yours, not so much. It doesn't even say why you would drop a pallet, or mention stunning.
"Simply run as far from the killer as possible"
Well, duh. I mean, even the intro video was willing to extend the benefit of the doubt to new players enough for them to understand you don't run towards the killer. At best, it's just a useless sentence.
So yeah, same information, sloppier delivery. What exactly is your criticism again?
-
@Rey_512 said:
Again, even if it’s an intro video, it could be worded a little better. That’s my opinion.
So we've gone from "these morons don't understand their own game" to "they could have worded it a bit better". That's progress.
Let's take a look at the full quote from the video.
"Most killers move faster than survivors, so running in a straight line will prove futile. Create separation by vaulting through windows, and drop pallets to block the killer's path. Time it just right to stun them, allowing you to create even more distance"
How would you have phrased that instead?

Well since this game has zero indication of what a player’s skill is (hidden MMR), no - neither myself nor you, nor anyone can tell what the player’s true skill level is other than the eyeball test.
You act like I’m the only one with this opinion. The average person here knows about the Hold W meta and how effective it is.
I didn't say the meta doesn't exist. But if you are watching intro videos on the official YouTube to learn how to play a game, I'm going to go ahead and assume you don't know what a meta is. The average person on the forums isn't watching the dbd YouTube for tutorial videos.
That's what people keep pointing out that you don't seem to get for some reason. This isn't about the meta, it's literally an intro video for people who have never played the game, and may never have played any other game like it before.
These aren't survivors running meta perks with tier cosmetics, they are people who pick Nancy because they like the show, and use 1 level 1 perk, because that's literally all they have unlocked. For those people, running away from the killer in a straight line is absolutely futile.
Sure, the average member of this forum knows what metas are currently working, but do you really think people are joining this forum before they've even played a handful of matches?
-
@Rey_512 said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2566279#Comment_2566279
And I’ve played against what seemed to be inexperienced survivors who tried to loop me and I down them faster than if they just simply held W to gain distance, while possibly using some windows along the way.
"What seemed to be"
So you had no idea their skill level, or even if they wanted to get away, or dropped the controller to grab their bong, or were just drunk? These are just some internet randoms you knew nothing about? Fun stuff. Not sure what it's supposed to prove, but fun stuff nonetheless.
Also "while possibly using some windows along the way" isn't what the video you started this thread to complain about mentioned, it was just running away in a straight line. No vaults, no pallets. Get it?
So in the end from your comment what we have is "I played some randoms who didn't loop well, I think they would have been better trying to link loops and get distance, but have no way of testing that theory"

“Most killers move faster than survivors, so running in a straight line will prove futile.” ~ Timestamp 3:01
Just thought it was funny that BHVR is either unaware or just wants to discredit the “Hold W” meta, where you can sometimes waste like 20-30 seconds of the killer’s time before they are close enough to initiate a chase.
So I tested this with my wife and a couple friends.
She's never played before, and only has a copy of the game because she likes stranger things and didn't want to miss the chance to get Nancy if she wants to play around Halloween, which puts her at the exact skill level the video was made for.
We tried each killer. As soon as she saw me playing killer, she ran away in a straight line.
She lost every single chase.
Turns out, it was pretty futile for a newbie with no understanding of the game mechanics to try and run away in a straight line.
It's almost like there is some game mechanic that makes killers run faster over time in a chase like that, meaning ultimately it's impossible to outrun without any other tools. Weird, right? /S

I appreciate your point on this.
If they're not gentapping though I should still get occasional skill check fails.( not including other noise notifications from my perks ) But in the match scenarios described I don't and all generators completely repair fairly quickly
You said this a few different ways now, and it has me convinced that the issue is that you aren't facing newbies anymore. I'm half decent at best as survivor, but in the last month I can count the number of failed skill checks I've had on generators one handed, I mean it's always the same button, even with madness or huntress lullaby, they just are not difficult, which is why they replaced struggle with them.

How good were you before? And not how good did you think you were, but where were you actually ranked?
Without that Intel, it's hard to make logical sense of the rest. Not meant as a slight or insult in any way, but if you were mediocre before you left, you'd probably see less of a difference than if you were amazing. Of course the time of each match would matter as well, as I believe it's common knowledge at this point that if there aren't enough killer players, the sbmm goes right out the window in the interest of shorter survivor queue times.

Go back and re-read this thread, where you have said "yes" to my points.
You have no basis for your strange dualistic insistence that I have been wrong to that which you agreed on.
Why you do this is beyond me, is irrational, and not my concern, but its readily apparent and your problem and causation, not mine.
Yes. I fully agree that you are scared of swf. Honestly it makes me giggle to think about.
You see 3 little icons showing someone is on a different platform and you run away, that's funny.
You seem to believe that me validating your opinions is the same as agreeing with them. It isn't, it's just my refusal to invalidate your personal experience. Personally I like swf. It adds to the game and makes survivor much more fun. But I'm not going to pretend like my opinion is more important and invalidates your own.
I'm sorry that you are so unused to having people who respect your opinion and still think you are factually incorrect speak with you, that you are unable to recognize it. Hopefully tweaking you on your cowardly playstyle firs put you on familiar footing and helps you understand.

Thats irrational, and on you.
All the points you made come down to you presenting your personal experience and likes as though they are facts.
I'm not going to disagree with whether or not you like something. Yeah, you don't like swf. Yeah, you run away when you think the match is going to be too hard for you. That's your opinion, I can't disagree with that, because I'm not you.
What you haven't done, at all, is show how your opinions matter beyond whether or not you choose to play a match or run from it.

Why you contrive to present as disagreeing, when infact I was right all along, and you repeatedly state you agree with what I stated, is peculiar.
You were wrong. I was right.
Deal with it.
You're right that you dislike those things
You are wrong that they are hurting the game overall.

@Rhoska said:
I dont have any issue with SWF, per se, albiet its a massively different situation for Killer than solo players.
But. If the SWF is using voice comms, that is seriously problematic for Killers, as it renders many Killer abilities/perks useless, and enables Survivors to leverage their perks (and actions) in ways that are not accounted for, or balanced for, in the game itself.
If voice communication was "intended", it would be enabled in the game itself.
-------------
I dont know how you think I said consoles limit DBDs scope, except in my observations that:
- Consoles are a limiting platform as to game design, compared to PC. Crossplatforming forces game design to accomodate for console gamepads as the interface, in ways that a mouse and keyboard on PC are not limiting (and gamepad can also be plugged into a PC in addition to those.
- Also that if I see 2PC/2console in lobby, odds are better that its not a 3+SWF, and especially on voice comms.
- If I suspect a 3+ SWF, I will leave the lobby, and its my prerogative to do so.
Point is, whether or not you personally like either of these things, they have proven to build and keep a player base active for the game.
Yes, making a game playable on multiple systems is more limiting than just on PC, however it also exposes your game to an exponentially higher number of potential players.
Yes, swf with comms can suck when they know how to communicate, but the ability to group with friends, especially over different systems is a method that has shown repeatedly to bring in new players.
You can dislike it all you want. You can lobby dodge all you want, I'm not honestly sure why you keep bringing that up, as nobody has said you have to face each lobby and can't run away.
-
I'm hoping they either had a temp issue that can be solved to get the original back, or just wanted to use the new actress for the Hulu series' voice instead. I would be happy with either voice, so long as the hell priest has a voice again.

You can write a story without falling into cliches. It's just incredibly difficult to be purely original but you can still use or partially use a story set up while still being original. It isn't the cliche that makes the story captivating. It is the writing itself. How the writer describes the scene. You're right that the two aren't the same. What they do though is lazy writing following similar formulas. A good compass to follow though is using real stories be it your own or someone else's to act as a baseline whether it is loosely to the point where its only similarity is its message or accurately. Using some isn't bad but here is the thing: If you fall into it THAT MANY TIMES yes it is uncreative writing.
Here is a story I've thought of, not gonna do the whole dialogue and structure its just be throwing out a concept I've thought up just now:
There could be a survivor named Camilla who is a Romany gypsy, her mother and father were optimistic and cheerful despite the family living in poverty. They promised she'd reach the stars if she believed in herself and were very traditional. They moved around often so she seldom grew an attachment to people. When she did she was time and time again manipulated and burned. She developed anti social behavior and in her teenage years started to use heroin to cope with being around people. That could be metaphorically represented with a person named 'Harriet', sort of like an imaginary friend to represent the supportiveness she feels from the drug. She drew a parallel between people and the fantastical demons her mother would tell her about in her childhood years. Demons that could put on disguises and cloud their intentions for parasitic purposes.
Fast forward, she's working a dead end job at a chicken processing plant and smoking a ciggy on the porch of her trailer. She gets a texts and goes to pick up her lifelong friend. She takes a long walk through the woods. The scene is dark, decrepit and spooky. Camilla seems at ease with this however and this walk is one of the few sources of enjoyment she has given her resentment of people and society. For suspense, could include an "observer" from the shadows during the walk with most of the story in that span of time being. She reaches her dealer's house and goes through a brief exchange. She seems on edge but quickly relaxes after clutching her paws on her chunky brown friend.
She ventures back into the woods and turns to an overgrown path. She goes to the place she routinely goes to shoot heroin by a muddy pond. Despite the scene being something that most people would find unsettling, she finds a beauty in it and feels safe. She shoots up and sits alongside with her friend who comes to meet her. They talk for awhile and she feels the comforting warmth she's been seeking. The scene grows sinister progressively however, with black ooze seeping discreetly through the ground, trees, etc little by little. Camilla would be unaware at first with her focus on the lake and her "friend". The conversation between the two takes a dark turn however and her friend Harriet berates Camilla with insults about how she's a ######### up, amounted to nothing, etc. She feels a discomfort in her heart and her left arm grows heavy. The argument continues, basically the 'friend' would be a representation of her own internal insecurities/fears coming out to attack her.
Now, the scene could go one of two ways. The discomfort turns into a crushing pressure on her heart, because she's overdosing while her friend is basically mentally abusing her or a physical assault could ensue where the metaphorical friend is the one pushing her down and crushing her chest with her struggling but being too weak to fight her off. If the first route is chosen, the friend would leave after saying some incredibly hurtful ######### and she sits in the dark alone clutching her chest. She doesn't have insurance so she feels like she has to just endure and be strong in that route. She is scared but also scared of living a life with even more debt. So physically and mentally she's helpless with only her thoughts to keep her company. She thinks back to her past and relives some past memories to find some and thinks about how she had that loving support but did nothing with it. That she let her fears conquer her life. I'd prefer the first route, but either way both routes would result in the scene becoming more and more infected by the entity transforming the woods into her personification of hell.
In the end as she lays there, her heart weak and sore, her body heavy and unable to move, struggling to breathe... The entity, through that ooze and black claws holds her down and takes her. She's never seen again and no one really cares. Anyways, you could say some of that is cliche, wouldn't doubt it cause its just me throwing ideas at a wall as I go. There's no structure really and specifics but hey, that's the great thing about drafts. My basis for the sense of helplessness, despair, etc. is inspired by my own overdose induced heart attack but I took a stimulant. Also had no insurance at the time so I couldn't get help or I'd of been in serious debt. So I chose instead to lay back, holding my chest for hours knowing there was a real big chance I was going to die. I couldn't sleep out of fear and cause it was a stimulant so I was up for like 7 hours going through that. Even at that point, was still afraid to sleep and couldn't eat. I forced myself to eat broth and slept after cause I knew that if I didn't I'd 100% die pushing my body further. Heroin is a better drug for the story because it warms you/comforts you. I've been in a good few F'd up situations where I felt like my life was over but nothing truly ever felt like I 100% would die. If something else tries to kill you, there's plenty of things you can do even if its futile. When its your own body, there's no control.
Painting that fear into a scene can be done in a lot of ways. The feeling doesn't compare to usual fears. The main feelings to get across though that the scene should establish: Transitioning from something comforting her to being the source of her terror. Helplessness and despair. Self reflection, regrets, and failing to meet expectations. Add on her literally being alone in the moment and in her life as she's become estranged through that journey: a feeling of loneliness and knowing that no one is going to notice she is gone. That's one idea I've had anyways. I like writing short stories but I doubt I'll ever put that concept to paper cause the direction this game goes implies to me they're unlikely to touch real issues. You'll probably say the malicious observer bit is cliche, I included that to have the cosmic horror element present. Its a problem with a lot of game companies. I mean if you look at the Fallout series for example, they started off full of despair and opaque. Fastforward and its comical and the dialogue has gotten to the point its shallow enough to be summed up by a wheel.
So we've got the Romany are poor trash whonhave drug abuse issues trope, which I kinda find offensive tbh, and I'm sick of seeing in the world.
We've got the "poor girl grew up tough" trope
We've got the "girl who likes dark places to prove she's different" trope
We've got the "drug user who communes with the drug" trope, still best done in pulp fiction.
We end with the classic "these ugly woods are actually... Evil!" Trope, best seen in Evil Dead.
I may have missed some, but if that was meant to be an example of how one can write a creative story while avoiding cliche, I believe you stumbled on the 5 yard line.

Cool now you guys can stop saying "BOTH SIDES COMPLAIN GUYZ!!"
I'm really unsure what point you are attempting to make here.
Yes, both sides, and people who play the whole game instead of sticking to one side, complain. If they didn't the traffic to this site would cease almost entirely outside of the lore section. Every gamer complains about the multiplayer games they play. Some times then complaints are valid, sometimes they aren't. And?

Definitely a dick move, but I don't think it's technically bannable as the game wasn't hostage, just slowed. I mean, with the hatch closed and you bleeding out, there were two timers in place, one of which couldn't be stopped.

I enjoy playing as him, but completely suck with him.

The Hell Priest could leave whenever he wants, but why would he? He's got a pool of victims he can hurt and kill over and over knowing they'll be brought back for him to play with again.
