It's definitely rough during this event and it seems like so many people just have so much animosity towards everyone else to the point they feel the need to try and ruin the experience for everyone else. A majority of the matches I've had I've needed a life raft for all the sweat. Hopefully it gets better
Yeah this anniversary event has been the worst one (experience wise). No clue why! If we somehow end up in a match, I won't intentionally do anything to make it bad for you (no matter which role you play). And yeah, I hope so.

You made a lot of assumptions. I didn't blame the devs, I shared my experience. How our games are going has no bearing on each other's experience.

It’s a shame that so many events are like this.
Personally, I’ve had both extremes. My games are either very sweaty or just wholesome farming games. Not much in between those, though.
Oh wow. I'm not one for hyperbole, so I mean this sincerely, I have not had even ONE non-sweaty game. Not one. And I'm pretty generous on what my definition of "sweaty" is. Lots of things that people consider sweaty, I consider normal/fair gameplay. Send some of your good vibes my way please. I could use at least one wholesome farming game the next time I play.

Had a game where I was Dredge and I hooked a survivor while the other 3 were around. The Cheryl misstimed her flashback while I was walking to the hook and ended up helping me proc nightfall and my bloodwarden. I proceeded to kill the other 2 while the Cheryl Dc'd out of what I can only assume was embarrassment. Was the highlight of my time with Dredge
Awwww my tender heart bleeds for Cheryl lmao

I had one of those times where I would drop a pallet and apparently it registered I was on the side of the killer, so the killer probably saw a survivor just sit at a pallet as he was coming towards it and got downed
Where as I SAW prime positioning for a head smash, lol
Lol getting vacuumed to the other side is always a ######### moment for me.
The pallet was between two boulders. The Survivor was crouched behind the first one. The Killer was walking past the pallet (so parallel to the boulders and pallet). The Survivor panicked and popped up to throw the pallet, but the Killer was already past the pallet and almost past the second boulder (even if the Killer had been in front of the pallet, they wouldn't have gotten stunned. Too far away).
The Killer stopped, turned around, and well . . . it didn't end well. Three people were alive, with the last gen at 98%. We all died. And that's my sad story.

This ALMOST cost me the game. I managed to cleanse one of already 4 standing pentimentos before she activated the 5th one.
I did die fixing my mistake, cleansed them all and rest of my teammates managed to escape, but that was the most panic inducing mistake of my life
haha so you're the one who made it impossible for me to put in a CoH! 😒😉
lol but seriously, I can feel the panic and regret in your story. And hey, you fixed it for the team so good job 👍

Those people need to form their own team and stop ruining it for the rest of us lol

Last night, I was on cornfield and the killer was Trapper. I saw shack god pallet down with a trap still set under it and thought "I won't step on the trap if I try to go over that pallet, right?"
SNAP. Trap on my foot! It was more under the further side of the pallet too so I was shocked it vacuumed me in.
Well, this silly mistake screwed up the whole game for my altruistic team. Of course basement was in shack so down there on the hook I went. And it was suddenly a Trapper shack game. They weren't watching their feet on the stairs which just made it all worse. We had only been hooked twice before this disaster, 3 of us ended up dying because of me. Lesson learned, just walk around lol.
Haha I've had games like that, too

@Kaitsja said:
Plenty of times, and it's always the solo queues that make the mistakes.
lol I played a SWF game where, instead of leaving, a teammate I had unhooked decided he just HAD to use his DS.
I was down on the ground because the Killer had NOED, and I got hit as soon as I unhooked my teammate. The teammate got hit, but I gave him BT, so he ran to the gate. (The gate was right next to where he had been hooked so he had a guaranteed out.) The hatch was right by the hook so I crawled to it. The others on comms were laughing and yelling at him, "Go! Leave!" (because if he left, the hatch would open instantly and we would've had a four man escape). And he, not thinking, yelled, "I have to get my DS!" So he tea bagged in the gate, got downed, missed his DS, and the Killer brought him right back to the same hook. Then the Killer hooked me, my first hook of the game, and I died.
We still make fun of him.
And yes, he deserved it (what the Killer did and getting made fun of by us).

Even when they are not tbagging, it just feels so frustrating when you know you could have easily get 2 or more kills, but lose that just because you didn't want to play like a d*ck.
Well, for what it's worth, whenever I notice a Killer specifically not doing that stuff, I recognize it and give them a thumbs up after. If we're on the same platform, I'll message them. They played with a value system, and not everyone does that or shares the same one. So I always think it's pretty cool to play with/against people like that. Maybe you were one of my Killers and I thought that about you.

I was playing against a silent hillbilly (insidious, silent chainsaw add-ons, tinkerer etc) on the game, I thought he was insidious camping bc the first survivor was hooked in the basement and killed themselves pretty quickly, leaving me, a Dwight and a stealthy, hide-in-lockers urban evading Nea.
Dwight eventually got caught, and was hooked in the basement. I knew the Nea wouldn't come to save him bc it was clear by then she was absolutely useless, so I walked there to save my sprint burst and get the hell out of here if i needed to, because he probably was insidious camping. Anyways turns out Nea is on a gen and triggers tinkerer, I see hillbilly leave the basement towards her and Nea immediately hiding in a locker, giving absolutely no reason for hillbilly to stay away from the basement. I manage to get the unhook, hillbilly is already coming back, I sprint burst out of the basement to occupy billy while Dwight leaves, put myself behind the god pallet... and then I don't drop it.
I didn't know he had the silent chainsaw add-on until this very moment, and I wasn't familiar with it (until this game lol), so my brain didn't realise he was about to chainsaw me, my brain short-circuited and i just didn't understand what was going on and didn't drop the pallet quick enough. I go down, Dwight goes down immediately bc i didn't buy him any time, Nea is still useless and gets caught as well bc he found her in a locker.
We all die. Nea writes a comment on my steam account calling me a terrible survivor. Life is great.
"Nea writes a comment on my steam account calling me a terrible survivor. Life is great." 😂😂😂 I had a good laugh at that, thanks lol
I remember I was shocked by silent chainsaw Billy at first too. If he does it at the second you're not looking back at him, you're screwed. But, you were in for a rough match regardless. Not much you could've really done . . .

Yeah, this feeling really hits home. I play soloq survivor mostly and I can tell when I have good teammates, but when I witness the smallest mistake (a mistake that I totally understand happening) cost the game it just feels bad, and not even in a rage/angry way. It literally just feels like watching a balloon deflate and fly around the room.
The other night I was playing a game against a trapper and I witnessed him set up a trap at the exit gate, so I was going to disarm it and open the gate when he was occupied in chase, but nope. I got vacuumed into the trap because instead of holding m1 to disarm, i hit m1 to open gate... I died because of that. Just a moment where it's like, feels bad man.
It happens to me as killer sometimes too, auto aim focusses on the hooked survivor instead of the unhooker or i get grabbed cancelled with neither the grab nor the hit. Literally have had this happen where they finished the gen because of that or got the unhook and escape. Big sad.
Omg the imagery of the deflating balloon was perfect 😂😂😂😂 yes that was it exactly!
Ahhh, cheers to you. I feel your pain 🍻

Okay bud, this was a great lead up to what sounds like a juicy story - don’t keep us waiting! Let’s hear the details…
I . . . it's. . . it's just too painful 😖
But I'll say it involved a very important pallet being thrown when the Killer wasn't even looking. And the last gen was right next to it and it was 98% done. And I was hooked. And the other teammate was injured, across the map, and dead on hook. And the other . . . ugh, I can't continue. Find me a fainting couch, please. I feel the room spinning beneath my feet.

@ACleverName4Me said:

Yes, its more common for Survivors because Killers can snowball harder but it can happen to both, usually one bad bodyblock at a hook or 2 people getting downed at the same time is a game breaker.

@amazing_grace said:
Yeah, sadly that happens a lot. I've made mistakes that have literally cost the game and I've had teammates who made one small misjudgment that cost the game. I at least try to learn from my mistakes when a blunder is made, but sometimes mistakes are out of your control as well (i.e. rubberbanding).
Best to take a breather and not feel too bad and move on hoping for the better in the future. Rage quit is also an option for some. Salt in the endgame chat is frowned upon:)
Agreed!
I had a sad, pitiful laugh (I was on the hook so I saw what happened) and then turned the game off after it was over lol

I don't really know. I love the idea of a celebrity killer who's drunk on his own fame and power, but I don't like the way they designed his power in-game - throwing knives feels like it was glued slapdash alongside that concept and I would have rather seen him built around a different power that focused on his music or his narcissism and glamor. And removing the knives means designing an entirely new power, so I can't really speculate.
I can't think of a way to fix how his power currently works as a magnification of the strengths and weaknesses of the other ranged killers without turning him into another Huntress clone. Some people have suggested basekit trick blades in accordance with actually working with the Trickster theme, but while that does improve the cool and clever things you can do with his power, it also decreases the list of tiles you can use for shelter, and that's kind of a problem when positioning is an absolute necessity in order to live against this guy. He's balanced on a razor's edge of being unstoppable or garbage depending on where you are, and when you can load into something like Rotten Fields or something like RPD, that's kind of a mess.
Yeah I never understood why they chose that for his power. It felt like such a disconnect from him as a character and his potential. Honestly, if they wanted to rework him completely to have a totally different power, I'd be excited. I mean, they reworked Freddy, but I don't think there's enough of a demand for them to put the resources into doing it. Shame. I love him as a character. His voice actor, especially, did a great job. And his music is very unsettling (reminds me of Insidious). sigh

I can agree with that and probably the reason why survivors don't like facing him because it's usually a lose-lose situation.
Either way, I've never liked the direction they went with his power. An AOE effect or something to deal with music would've been a lot cooler and original.
Yeah, I never understood why his power would be throwing knives. I remember from his lore he tortured people to get screams, but you can do that lots of different ways. Why throwing knives? His power seems like a parlor trick--it doesn't fit his potential. Anyway, thanks for the good chat!
-
@Marcavecunc said:
I'd get better results just holding W and pressing M1 over throwing a million knives that will all miss because I suck at throwing knives. So when I play Trickster, I usually just go the M1 route unless there's a big empty space or something.
Are you on PC or console?
-
@Laluzi said:
The thing I don't like about him is that his power is very all or nothing in a map-dependent way. He murders the hell out of anyone caught out in the open, and low-wall loops are a win-win in his eyes. High wall loops, though? Trying to chase someone around shack, or a gym, or even a big round rock is agonizing as this guy. It feels like your ability to avoid it comes entirely down to terrain and structures, and your ability to catch people comes entirely down to terrain and structures. You can't juke a stream of knives the same way you can juke a single shot or hatchet, but on the flipside, those spots where you could line up a shot or hatchet for just the merest second around a corner don't get you nearly the value when it's just one or two knives instead of a health state. I'd love to be proven wrong on this, but without some of his funky purple addons, he has weirdly little room for skill expression.
Out of curiosity, have you ever thought about what should be done with him? A complete power rework or just some adjustments? And if you have thought about it, what were some of your ideas?
-
@Mazoobi said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2997498#Comment_2997498
He will end chases quickly IF survivors are that bad. As long as the survivors are decent, they'll stick to walls as much as possible which is his biggest weakness and currently the best way to hinder him.
A good survivor will only run in the open if they know the trickster mindgamed himself or occupied with something else.
Hmmm. I don't think that's totally accurate. While running a jungle gym he can throw knives and injure you, hit by hit. Other Killers would have to be close to you to land a hit, or aim and guess very carefully like Pyramid Head. Trickster can injure you more easily, just by getting a glimpse of you, especially if he's smart with his knives. In my experience, Tricksters have done poorly more so when they mess up, not when the Survivors do.
-
@Mazoobi said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2997487#Comment_2997487
It depends on the situation.
Killers say that he takes way too long to injure or down someone so that was what I was trying to point out.
I honestly think he ends chases extremely quickly, especially in the open. He can just keep throwing with no penalty. With Huntress, she has to wind up and Survivors hear it as a warning, and she slows down while aiming, so Survivors are able to more easily dodge her hatchet. Her hit boxes aren't nearly as bad as they used to be, so it's even easier to dodge them now. With Plague, she throws up a lot, but she doesn't instantly damage you just because she hit you, like Huntress. And her damage takes more time to inflict than Trickster's does, and in the meantime, a Survivor can hopefully get to a pallet, vault, or wall. Same thing with dodging Slinger. It's easier to dodge him than Trickster in the open.
-
@Mazoobi said:
His design is flawed and un-original.
Why throw a million knives at a survivor when you can throw one well-shot hatchet, vomit stream, or chained bullet at them?
As a survivor, you have to use high walls and even then, he'll eventually injure/down you if he can get a knife or two with every corner.
Not fun for both sides.
Just to be devil's advocate, he has no slowdown or penalty for missing, so isn't he better than those other Killers?

@AnxiousRiddle said:

Yes. I understand T1 because some loops are still strong, and some killers are still slow. Tier 2 & 3 were a band-aid fix and have yet to be removed. I learned huntress a year, year and a half (?) ago when they decided to remove bloodlust for a weekend. I noticed not much of a difference from now. I mean, I learned her so I tend to do better overall, but I didn't notice a massive spike after the weekend was completed.
I would happily take a dodged hit if they removed them. Mind-you, however, I don't think it'll work as using DH to dodge hits works less than half the time in my experience.
DHing for distance CAN be used when you screw-up, in a panic. But typically even then it's easy to mind-game if you see the panic or force them to waste it. Those DHing for distance, IMPO, do it mostly to combat bloodlust-- something a lot of killers may not even notice they're doing or wouldn't admit to.
Which is understandable, but someone has to tell them at some point, "hey you BL3'd them around that pallet and now you're upset they had DH to make one more loop around it until the gen popped-- that's not the correct move here." The issue is that I think the community tends to demonize a lot of what survivors do, and baby killers a lot.
I notice this as someone who plays both sides so much she reaches Iri 1 on both killer and survivor, every month. All of my tome challenges are done, so this isn't from a lack of understanding one side. This is from me actively playing killer, getting outplayed and people patting me on the back like "it's not your fault" even when it was-- meanwhile, me DHing for distance when a killer has been tunneling me all match I'm chastised as if I just reached through my monitor and punched them in the forehead. Over-demonizing people for using game mechanics doesn't help anyone, and babying a role so they refuse to learn better strategies help no one.
That doesn't mean, however, and I want to stress this-- it DOES NOT mean there are not still a lot of balancing issues.
Well said.
-
@AnxiousRiddle said:
We need to look at why people use these things.
A lot of the time, personally, as well as a few others I know who run DH-- it's to compensate killers who want to get to BL2&BL3 to get a down, despite misplaying. Remove BL2&3 (keep 1), i'll stop using DH in a heartbeat. It only goes off 60% of the time anyway.
As far as NOED, it's mostly used by, in my experience, not so great killers or killers who are very new (if not for a specific build). This is an issue, because they get kills with it, which individually doesn't really matter-- but systemically it's increasing their MMR. Then they go against a full 5k+ hour SWF who knows what they're doing, and it's cleansed in two seconds. Then they have shittier and shittier matches because they were boosted to an MMR that doesn't really match their skill level.
Making it earnable in some way may combat this. It'll teach newer killers not to rely to heavily on a perk to win them games. Token system seems fair enough. Maybe 4 hooks, 4 stacks? Noed activates. I don't really mind NOED much, cause I usually play with people who cleanse it pretty fast, but the times it has annoyed me is when they get absolutely no hooks all game then get a 1-2k they didn't earn.
We can't just sit here and say "PUNISH THING" without knowing why people use "thing" to begin with.
Not to mention moving the bar. Because I DISTINCTLY remember before the last DS nerf, everyone was saying "NERF DS AND NOED", then DS got nerf'd and now everyone's just moving to the next one on the list. What's after DH? Unbreakable? BT? And on and on it goes.
I appreciate that you respectfully gave a measured opinion and offered a possible solution. It is true that DH is a counter to BL tiers. A Killer sometimes only "catches" a Survivor because of BL, not because s/he successfully mind gamed. If I heard correctly, BL tiers were added as a compensation for the broken amount of infinites and pallets that used to be in DBD years ago. Is it fair then to say that since those were lessened, BL tiers should be, as well? And if they are, should DH then be nerfed? At first glance, yes.
It's worth at least discussing.

If that's the real reason, that rubs me the wrong way.
The bloodpoint cap has never been a factor for me in deciding when to stop/restart playing the game. Obviously, I can't put my personal bias on others, but I'm struggling to see how the BP cap would be that influential for most people.
@bittercranberry to be clear, I'm not saying you're wrong. What I'm saying is, if that's BHVR's logic, I think that's a mistake.
