You are splitting hairs OP. If it pulls my screen toward the direction of the survivor when I'm swinging then that sounds a lot like autoaim. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...

The thing is: it doesnt. Unless survivior is in your attack range, it does completely nothing.

I already explained the difference to the other guy:

Aim Assist helps you aim when it works

Aim Assist makes you miss when it doesnt work

Animation Enhahancement makes animation look better whan it works

Animation Enhancement makes you miss if it doesnt work.

Do you see the difference now? Its very simple.

That's true, but I don't think that introducing a second objective is necessarily the only alternative to increasing repair times. Some of the other things they're already thinking about doing will, I think, be helpful, such as nerfing toolboxes, shrinking maps and expanding on existing side objectives, like totems. They just need to come up with ways to encourage survivors off generators, and/or help the killer to apply more pressure. A second objective is only one way of doing that.

The thing is that none of these things make survivior more interensting.

    • Toolbox nerf = makes gen times longer
    • Shrinking maps = impossible with current map rework speed (we dont have 5 years)
    • Increasing totem importance = people alredy dont like totems, just look at all NOED threads (NOED is ######### and unfair, doing totems counters it, but still, no one bothers to cleanse it)

So it basically has to be either some low effort idea like the Scott's, (it makes gen times slower, but 1 survivior rushing into a killer ends the bonus) or a whole new thing that for obvious reasons wont happen.

If it really wasn't auto aim, it wouldn't require and explanation. It really is that simple.

You can paint a horse with black and white stripes and call it a zebra till you're blue in the face.

In the end, it's still a horse.

Don't worry, I don't blame you for wanting the wool over your eyes. The world can be a scary place. It's a natural reaction and I empathize with you.

Aim Assist helps you aim when it works

Aim Assist makes you miss when it doesnt work

Animation Enhahancement makes animation look better when it works

Animation Enhancement makes you miss when it doesnt work.

Do you see the difference now? Its very simple.

haha it's just so silly, calling it "Animation Enhancement" to try to cover up what it's actually doing.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1070922#Comment_1070922

Yeah, reading comprehension. It surprises everyone. lol

"Animation Enhancement" doesn't sound ominous: it sounds like something helpful because of the word "enhancement." And it is helpful for the visuals, but it's detrimental to gameplay, the thing that really matters in a game. Because it has an effect on gameplay, and because that effect is negative, the name should indicate such.

Animation Enhancement does sound positive, but if you start saying: "AE makes you miss hits", "AE is what makes 360s so bad" or "AE causes the damned Hook Tech", then it sounds like just some wierd ######### that does bad things. And thats what it is. Someting that enhances visuals at the cost of the gameplay.

People start calling it "Aim Enhancement" or just "whatever Adhskdkjdjs Enhjajdjjssk that makes me miss" and it already happened, just look at the Q&A thread.

Calling it "autoaim" may make it sound more negative, 1- but there people who dont believe in it, 2- it gives the Devs argument that its NOT AUTOAIM".

Just look at the linked thread.

I used word "AutoAim" in a clickbait way to gain views, Devs saw it, but all they did and say was an explanation that ITS NOT AUTOAIM. And they can do it again. Just because you are using a wrong term.

Here we are, 2020 and we call everything a tech.

Btw, when I start dbd to play and win a game do I call it "launch tech"?

If you eat a soup using a spoon, its a normal thing.

But if you menage to eat a soup using a knife (and its easier/better/faster) then its a technique.

Because you found a way to do something better in a way different from a normal one, using items that have different uses.

But dont worry, its not an exploit, because you gained an advantage in a fair way, a way that everyone skilled enough can do.

    Ooooh

This is a very serious case of "Animation Enhancement wanting to hit the dead survivior"

Basically the dead survivior IS it the attack detection cone AND it also is the closest survivior. This is what causes the famed HOOK TECH to exist.

Your video is an extreme case, hitting a hooked survivior just before sacrice animation bugs the AE and makes it move your camera unnaturally upwards to attack the floating survivior. This doesnt happen normally, but thats how I doscovered that the Hook Tech doesnt really exist.

  • @TragicSolitude said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/127702/there-is-no-autoaim-in-dbd

Autoaim can help you hit a target, this means that it can make you hit a target you shouldnt have hit, because you werent aiming for it

So, Autoaim = helps you hit your target

Animation Enhancement, just like Autoaim can make mistakes when judging surviviors position, especially if the survivior is moving very fast (360s, DH, SB, etc) and it results in your character missing an attack that should have hit.

Animation Enhancement = helps you miss your target = the opposite of Autoaim

So, what Dead by Daylight has isn't Autoaim, it's Anti-Autoaim. It's actually worse than Autoaim, because rather than helping killers hit targets, it causes them to miss targets they should have hit.

However, Autoaim in many games also helps you miss targets you should have hit, because if you try to track targets and aim for where they will be, Autoaim shoots at where they are instead, which causes the shot to miss.

So, since Autoaim can also cause hits to miss by making bad judgement calls, and since it's a lot shorter than "Animation Enhancement," isn't it easier to just call it Autoaim? (I'd also accept "Aim Assist." Because in general, if someone comes in reading about how "Animation Enhancement" causes killers to miss hits, they're not going to know what that means unless they're a forum regular. Meanwhile, "Autoaim" and "Aim Assist" are well known terms that mean nearly the same thing.)

WOW FINALLY SOMEONE FIGURED OUT HOW IT WORKS.

I have no problem with calling it Autoaim for short, but devs seem sensitive about it.

So instead of giving them the argument: "BuT tHiS iS nOt AuToAiM" just call it Animation Enhancement as they want you to.

And yes, this term sounds confusing to new players, but at the same time it sounds so mysterious and ominous that those people repeat this term without knowing what it actually means.

    And it works.

    That isn't a technique, it's an exploit.

That's like calling abusing the basement bug when it was major a technique. The only reason you would do that is literally to try and urk people because logically you wouldn't call it that.

    Basement Bug was a BUG.

    DC is a mechanic.

Abusing a bug(exploit) is called exploiting.

Abusing a mechanic is called technique

Autoaim, Aim Assist, and "Animation Enhancement". Are all the exact same thing, they all are just doing the exact same thing. Peanits described it as "Animation Enhancement" to give people a better idea of why it exists, not because he wanted people to think it's different than an aim assist.

The purpose of it is to make attacking look more fluid. The issue it's making is that attacks are being manipulated outside of the Killers control. The dev's are aware of this (and have admitted it's an issue), just it's not something easily fixed.

If you read Peanits' original comment then you can see they literally wrote a whole paragraph about why its not autoaim, as I called it in the title.

So again. Its not autoaim because it doesnt help you aim. If it does something that has impact on the gameplay then it one of two things:

    1. makes a good hit look better
    2. makes a hit a miss.

Its more of a "AimCounterAssist" than "AimAssist" becaise it helps you miss more than it helps you hit

Shred does nothing when they're running around a circular loop though. Shred has it's place, but when it comes to being looped around in a circle work windows or pallets, it's useless.

    Shred is like hatchets.

You cant say Huntress hatchets are ######### just because she cant use them in a tight loop.

You didn't, in fact in the OP you basically just said "Peanits said it isn't auto-aim so it isnt"

Thats not what I said. Read it again.

TL;DR: Autoaim makes you hit hits you shouldnt have hit AND (when it fails) it makes you miss hits you shouldnt have missed.

Animation Enhancement make your hits look better AND (when it fails) it makes you miss hits you shouldnt have missed.

So basically AE has the same downsides as autoaim (when it fails), except that when it works, it doesnt make your aim better, its just a graphical thing. Missed hits are real thing though, but it happens only when AE fails (dedicated servers lol)

TL;DR:TL;DR: Its not autoaim because it does not help you aim even when it works, but it can make you miss hits when it doesnt work

360 is for when you need to save a loop/pallet for later on in the game or when there is no loop, generally. Some people just 360 all the time but they got really good in order to be able to do that. It's not as simple as it looks, and a lot of it is reactionary, meaning the survivor has to actually move in reaction to the killer in the correct way at the correct time.

I've got 4k+ hours and 360ing still isnt butter even with a wired internet connection.

Again. Killers cant hit 360 not becaise they are bad, its bacause Animation Enhancement makes them miss.

And yes, good killers can hit 360s, but thats because they hit AFTER 360 ends. Hitting during 360 itself RNG based on latency, dedicated servers, broken hitboxes and AE. Too many things to account for.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

I wouldn't call it a tech then I would call it an exploit, and unintended abuse of game mechanics as the devs have stated.

I think they have gotten the message and are going to do something about it, but BHVR does things....very very very slowly. So it could be months off but I imagine they will do something about it.

    Thats why its a tech.

Ther is no bug involved, its a TECHNIQUE that uses existing MECHANIC in an inconventional way. But it should be changed because its bullshit.

I think I explained why it doesnt classify as autoaim.

Auto Aim is just a thing nad its terrible.

So you are essentially complaining....because you got juked? This is where we're at right now? "The survivors won't let me hit them, it's an issue." All they do is nerf survivors, I seriously doubt they will touch their mobility, and if they do God help us all with matchmaking.

This is exactly why people need to plan ahead. Also before anyone cries Legion is one of the main characters I use. Personally I don't strike unless I know the hit is lined up. Even so, sometimes you are going to miss, and it isn't the end of the world. This seems to be more of an issue of practice than anything, honestly.

These forums as much as I hate to admit it really do seem to have a lot of outlandish complaints by killers.

    @Creepytaco said:

As someone who plays killer this game is painfully skewed in the killers favor which is why I think you see less and less survivors. As a killer people you have to have a game plan and CONTROL YOUR GAME. That is literally one of your main jobs. Seems a lot of the complaints on the forum seem to be just drivel made by those that essentially don't want to try to do anything.

"Take away keys, nerf this perk, nerf that perk but buff our perks and our moris and abilities. Make less pallets," blah blah blah I mean good grief. Might as well advocate for the game to be over as soon as you spawn in with the survivors. How about we add in a heart attack mechanic where a survivor sees you and just immediately dies? People need to get a grip and literally need to take the time to master a killer and accept the fact that at the end of the day you aren't going to kill everyone all the time.

They didn't cheat. They likely aren't using "unfair advantages." Just please play the game

Do you even know how hit detection, hitboxes and Animation Enhancement works in DbD? Please dont talk about things you have no idea about.

  • @NullEXE said:

Whatever you choose to call it, it's still something in the game screwing with Killer's ability to play, and is easily taken advantage of by Survivors. I know when I play survivor. I slide in past the corner of a rock while in a chase, knowing that even though the killer should hit me - aim assist is going to register it as hitting the rock. Same with corners, tree's, and etc. I also know the 360 maneuver which is easy to get away with against any killer that isn't playing with a ms over 60.

As Killer It's annoying when I am looking at a survivor, and I intentionally don't swing yet, knowing all the survivor has to do is press A/D once, and my attack is just going to forcibly go into that corner even though I wasn't looking at it - just because they F1 a corner.

Don't even get me started on the fact that the "animation enhancement" even see's hooked survivors as targets. So when you are hitting someone who is performing an unsafe unhook, the feature forces you to hit the survivor on hook, though the survivor in front of you instead. Giving both survivors a free escape.

So yeah - tell Killer's to "get gud" in a game where every second matters, and they are forced to wait seconds because the game is broke, is dumb. They should fix their game, and be made aware of issues it has.

Well thats why Im saying there should be an option to disable it in the settings.

  • Like I explained above: you cant hit surviviors you cant hit. But if there is more than one survivior that can be hit, it will choose the closest.

  • @ZoneDymo said:

yeahhh... like how old freddy would lock on to the survivors who were not in the dream state even though you are aiming that those that are?

    yeah...totally no auto aim.

It adjusts the animation to hit THE CLOSEST survivior. Apparently it does not matter is a survivior is hooked, awake, dead, undergound, in the sky, a ghost or if its your mom

  • @ImLeslieKetamine said:

oh so it's autoaim with a different name? Got it.

No, no, no. You missed the whole point.

Its an autoaim with a different name, that doesnt help you hit surviviors, instead it helps you miss surviviors or hit hooked bodies/window frames.

  • Damn it

People cant even read 2 paragraphs of a highlighted text...

You are free to ask Devs about autoaim, but dont cry if devs reply with the same thing I posted here...

If you asked about Animation Enhancement, they would have admit that it makes people miss and that they should add an option to disable it.

They are absolutely an indie studio. They have one game that is mildly a hit, and even then, it's still niche. Every other attempt they have made has been an abysmal failure. They are known for DBD, but most of their past projects have been shoddy ports, and terrible licensed games.

In any case, Capcom doesn't need DBD's money. They are Capcom. It's Resident Evil. That franchise is a license to print money.

    @Seanzu said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1069780#Comment_1069780

Not really, with myers you need to stalk to even really get speed to catch up to someone to start a chase, unless someone bumps into you, you could flick your stalk on to try and find someone, the starting phase then finishes and you've done nothing to capitalise on it, it's essentially just like a normal match before it was added.

What if stalk rate was reduced just like gen speeds? And warmup immediately ends on Myers tier up or Ghostface being revealed.

Same with triggering Hags traps or disarming Trappers traps. So either trigger/disarm, follow them and locate traps or just run into their face to initiate chase.

    I think thats enough counterplay

  • @Aura_babyy said:

Scott mentioned that the Trapper and Hag would have time to set up traps.

Inb4 all you have to do is just run at the killer beginning of the game to prevent that.

Yeah, exactly. Just like people ruin Trappers games with OoO, they just have to disarm his traps until he starts a chase. Finally someone will bother to actually try to stop the Trapper from setting traps instead of ignoring him and Genrushing him to hell.

  • OoO is still broken vs Trapper and Hag.

And SWF cant be nerfed, so we have to rework OoO so that its not so op when used by SWF. Make it something like Kindred: great information, helps solo greatly, useless for SWF.

  • @Peanits are you there?

I think this is is the 2137th thread involving Animation Enhancement this month.

    1. A few "AUTOAIM SUCKS" threads
    2. Many "FIX THE HOOK TECH" threads
    3. A bit of "SERVERS MAKE ME MISS" threads
    4. And finally "360s HAVE GONE OUT OF HAND" threads

I think we already have the whole collection of "AnimationEnhancement problems", and thats mostly from people who didnt even know it exists and blamed it on other things: Autoaim/AimAssist, broken hitboxes, dediated servers or even survivior spin speed, so its not a band of biased people raging about like when you nerfed ruin.

Devs, dont you think its about time you do something about it? Fix it, delete it, let players disable it, whatever.

I literally just said that in most cases you can avoid it. Not all. Your list is correct. I personally do think DS needs tweaking. But still the majority of times I've seen someone hit by DS is because they decided to tunnel. I've personally been hit by it twice that I can recall. Both times were because they were trying the cheeky crap you mentioned above. DS didn't save them as all they did was annoy me.

If by "avoiding" you mean either letting them go unharmed or slugging them for 60 seconds, then Id rather get DSed because it wastes me less time.

Thats why I said that DS needs to be changed and thats the reason why killers hate it.

I agree that it prevents tunneling, but the problem is that its not all it does.

If DS disabled when you are not tunneled (you did actions mentioned above or are the last survivior available) then I would agree to even buff DS, because it would be fine as long as it only countered tunneling.

  • @thrawn3054 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1069408#Comment_1069408

If you don't tunnel you won't get hit with DS 9 times out of 10. Yes, there will be the odd time it happens. But it becomes mostly useless without tunneling.

I just gave you many situations when it happens.

Doing gens, healing, cleansing, unhooking, starting chase, bodyblocking, getting caught in Bear Traps, disarming/sabotaging Bear Traps, triggering Phantasm Traps, using Object of Obsession, spamming vaults to to create auditory warnings, hiding in lockers, etc...

People with DS do these things all the time. Some of them more, some of them less often, but surviviors abuse the invicibility from the DS however they like.

If you dont see it then you certainly dont play Killer, and Im not sure if you even play survivior, because it happens all the time.

And these are all things that surviviors do, things like hooking 3 survs and getting hit by DS still happen even if surviviors dont abuse the perk themselves, game does it for them.

If we're talking about a second objective - that is, one which is compulsory, like generators, to escape - I expect it's because it would be a huge undertaking from a balance perspective. I think most of us can agree that they have enough on their plate, balance-wise, without introducing a new game-changing mechanic and shaking things up completely.

But its also true that adressing gen speeds without making survivior gameplay even more boring is impossible.

They either have to slap band aids on everything while they balance the game, or add new objectives and focus on balancing them.

Buy I dont think its possible to fix the game with just bandaids
