Unless you actually physically touch them. Even with Calm Spirit if you actually come into contact with a crow, it flies away.
Yeah, I forgot to mention that. 😭

I believe a lot of people hate FNAF because at the beginning, the majority of the population who played it was young youth. Thinking that it's not meant for DBD, but they don't want to acknowledge the FNAF lore nor the cool bunny legion cosmetics in DBD.
Even with that in mind, they don't seem to have the same opinion of things they can wear their nostalgia glasses with like Are You Afraid Of The Dark? or Goosebumps (which were undeniably for kids). I'd guess streamers could be another thing, but in that case they'd probably hate Amnesia as well.
But yeah, I agree that there's more than enough to work with for DBD.
-
I think a lot of it is deep-rooted in how the game makes people feel, mixed with the fandom itself.
Many threads and posts are made after eating a big poop sandwich in a match, so they bring that upset to the boards. Or players that have fallen into a trap of feeling sorry for themselves so they start to view everything in terms of "us vs them". That accounts for a lot of the "x-role has it easier", "typical x-player", "y is x-sided", etc. complaints.
Then with the fandom, a lot of people that play the game are heavily into sites like Twitter, where being overly domineering with opinions and acting low is commonplace. Once they've been posting like that for a long time, it can be hard to shake it off when they get here.

Don't understand why everyone hates FNAF. I see plenty of ideas of other chapters, but none of them not getting anywhere close to the same hate as FNAF.
I never understood the FNAF hate here.
Yeah, it's bizarre. People seem pretty keen on gatekeeping the horror genre, which is odd. Or freaking out about kids playing the game when they aren't supposed to anyway.

I swear, the Forum is an endless cycle of Complaints. Every time a new Rift starts, people say there is nothing for them in the Pass. Every time a new Tome Level is released, Players complain that some Challenges are "impossible".
If a new Killer is released, this new Killer is too strong AND too weak at the same time. If a Map Rework happens, they complain about Breakable Walls, because they "bring back Infinites".
Like, always the same, lol.
People do complain a lot, but this thread is an actual discussion on opinions so far.

Correct me if I'm wrong I thought calm spirit didn't counter swamp crow bombs
They never go off for me when I'm running it. But they do if someone follows me lol
-
Calm Spirit also prevents crows from flying away, meaning you can sneak around a lot easier on certain maps like the tugboat in the swamp.
-
I liked the last one mainly because of Bill and it had outfits for Felix and Jeff.
This one is pretty boring, but it has a couple things that are neat. I'll do my best to get to the last tier, but I probably won't buy it.
-
I'd say regardless, be open to feedback from people playing the role opposite of the one you fall into the most. It helps understand the other side better and the sorts of things they like and dislike about matches. Just try not to take angry complaints to heart.
-
Whenever someone talks about the game being "sided" one way or the other, it just reads as bias to me. So chances are that's why it's hard to understand people's complaints.
There's a lot of reasons someone might be upset with the outcome of the match. Sometimes they go up against BM killers or killers that play dirty. Sometimes their teammates let them down. Sometimes they're just mad that they lost. On the flipside, I've had killers scream at me or complain about balanced perks in post-game chat. It's just how the game can get.
-
Very much in favor of a FNAF crossover.
No reason why they couldn't, but a hell of a lot of excuses on the forum as to why they shouldn't.
-
Chopping Mall crossover?
-
Idk why anyone would look down on someone for burning something the bloodweb spit out into their laps.
-
No one is expected to play any way they don't want to. No one can dictate that. On the flip side though, people are also allowed to be frustrated at the match for whatever reason too. The general rule of thumb I try to follow is to play the way that I deem the most fair in any given situation and hope that others try to do the same, but if they don't, then I just have to deal with it.
A lot of people play this game in the saltiest way possible and act like jerks. At times, it even dumps all over my good actions (i.e. I run off and go on death hook/get moried so my teammate can safely get hatch or gate, but they sit there and loiter so they can tbag the killer). I came off of a match just now where my teammates did the bare minimum possible to prevent the killer from camping and tunneling me the entire match (yes, it was genuine and ended with some BM hits at the end). All 4 players failed imo because one player had to suffer.
But even though it's crappy, they all chose to play that way and there's nothing against the rules about it. The only thing you can do is give them Unsportsmanlike for the BM, and even that might not count. Instead of stopping to their level and being a jerk myself, I'd rather just play the way I enjoy playing and the way I'd like to see others play as well.

Jake, even injured, is supposed to be Undetectable enough to reliably get heaps of mileage out of a toolbox for hook sabotage saves.
Iron Will and Calm Spirit combine together to make one larger perk like Prove Thyself and Leader, but Saboteur is unaffected by either of them. I find Bite The Bullet, Pharmacy, or Distortion fits the third slot better.

Claudette’s make sense too. Her ability to reliably help heal others using empathy depends on her remaining in the healthy state wherever possible. Thus Self Care & Botany Knowledge synergise and give her HEAPS of mileage out of medkits whether she uses them on herself or anybody else.
Botany Knowledge is definitely the perk that links the other two together, but Self-Care and Empathy don't directly benefit each other like Dwight's 3 perks do. But gameplay-wise, it does make more sense than say David's perks lol

Yea it’s probably never gonna happen, would be cool though.
I wonder who even owns the rights. Human must be defunct and the last game was by Capcom, but there hasn't been anything since 3. If they do own the rights, DBD already has their foot in the door with the RE crossover, so it wouldn't be entirely possible. But it's a bit obscure unfortunately.
-
DBD has pretty bad synergy with perks. I was thinking of survivors with perks that all make sense together, and the only one that came to mind was Dwight.

Watch it be somebody who isn't candyman springtrap hellrazer or a re part 2. Watch it be none of the predictions people have
Another RE character is a longshot. Candyman, FNAF, and Hellraiser are old theories that are applied to new updates all the time too. I'd make a guess at who it'd likely be but I don't keep up with new horror enough to be able to lol
-
The leaked cosmetic price makes me think it's licensed. I can't really guess who they'd license at this point though.
-
I'm not sure how it'd affect the balancing of the game. They'd likely have to buff killer as a result to see more during a match, so we'd end up at an elevated version of where we're currently at now.
I'd say it's fine as is. Plus, when I do run perks like Kindred or Aftercare, it doesn't really seem to affect gameplay too much with strangers.
-
@Power_Guy said:
'He’s one of the most requested killers for DBD!'
No he's not. I don't get where this idea comes from. One DBD streamer who likes FNAF and his followers is not the majority of the player base.
FNAF is cheap jumpscares, and jumpscares are lazy. Pass.
Let's make a Kpop chapter instead. 🙃
-
If you have to make an unsafe unhook, you're always hoping for a swap at best. It's not about protecting yourself from the killer; it's about protecting your injured teammate from getting tunneled.
Not that that always works. It's common to get slugged while they tunnel the person you just unhooked, even after they've taken an endurance hit. But I digress lol
-
Chris and Claire. I wanted them over Leon and Jill, so I'm glad they're alts. I still like Leon a lot too though.
I'm not really a fan of Claire or Jill's redesigns in the new games. They're OK enough, but it's hard for me to recognize them as the same people they're meant to be. Jill is kind of the worst of the two in my opinion, so I don't care for Jill at all in DBD. Especially with the face issues she's having rn lol

Yet if you turn to the killer gameplay to make up for the survivors lack of teamwork, don't you see the major flaw in that logic. If survivors work together they will have the time to do the objectives and more. They don't need to be a death squad either. Shouldn't you turn to the survivors to learn to look out for each other? They are on the same side after all, instead of asking the opponents to not capitalize on their own mistakes as a team?
This is a 1v4 game and yet the responsibility of the 4 is usually placed on the 1 they face. The point is part of survivors skillset is that of cooperation, as they are part of a team. Sadly enough people don't want to acknowledge that and rather act like this is a 1v1,1,1,1 therefore they need to be able to halt a tunnel without help, they need to be able to loop the killer forever and what not.
I wasn't saying that. Moreso that a killer has the ability to brute force people out of the match unless teamwork is spot-on, which it tends not to be. Ultimately the survivors should work together and a lot of what causes one survivor to fail is dependent on their team's actions. But making sure everyone has time in the match still hinges on the efforts of all 5 players.
Unfortunately, yeah. Survivors turn on each other all of the time too despite being on the same team. Then on social media, there's a lot of this us vs. them blame game stuff.

If you take your gameplay as survivor, I believe that it would prevent tunneling far more than anything they can do to a killer. From my perspective it are your teammates that can improve your chances against tunneling than anything else.
When I unhook someone I try and protect them, also nearly all my builds have borrowed time and I will flat out body block if needed to give my teammates time.
I am not as nice as you, I will cleanse the totem, I will push gens if needed and I will do my best to distract or loop to the best of my ability (which isn't amazing at all).
The issue is that people turn to their opponents to make the game fun for them instead of their own team.
I think it's an effort between all 5 people, but I agree.
Survivors tend to go into fight or flight pretty easily, which is fun and great for the asymmetrical aspect, but it's also up to those who aren't being chased in order to ensure the strength of the team by looking out for each other. That means not hiding after an unhook, distracting the killer when a teammate is on death hook and being targeted, healing each other, etc. Teamwork is the core strength the survivors have, and unfortunately most matches lack it. But even without teamwork, the match can still be fun as long as we're offered enough time to hammer out some objectives (or if we just say F it and act goofy lol), which is where the killer gameplay enters the equation.
Again, nobody is forced to play any way they don't want to, but you're right that stronger team work and less focus on pushing gens quickly would (hopefully) see a decline in tunneling.

@Kalinikta said:
Euhm... killers need to play in a way that ensures everyone else their fun, even if that comes at the expense of their own. Survivors can play how they want and not consider the killers experience? Playing to win only applies to one side.
The counter argument of it isn't fun for me, you must consider my fun... never seems to apply the other way. I never seen the survivors slow down the game and freely hand the killer pressure, because they are struggling and not having a good time... usually you get Baby Killer, learn to pressure! Yet when you do.... Not like that, that isn't FUN!
You have two opposing sides and both are trying to win. It is the nature of the game, each side will do things that aren't fun for the other. Telling people not to play to win or to simply outclass their opponents to have a chance is unrealistic. Survivors will slam gens and killers will kill as fast as possible. Those are their objectives afterall.
Killers don't need to do anything. Survivors don't need to do anything either. Everyone has the freedom to play the game the way that they like.
Personally, I do what I can to not push gens too hard and work on the other objectives I'm able to complete as survivor. I take protection hits and distract the killer when necessary as well. I do what I can to make sure my teammates get a good amount of time in during the match, while also maximizing the amount of points I can get. I also try not break Ruin the moment I see it or work on more than 2 gens per match (unless we're down to the wire).
Do I wish more people played like me? Of course. But do I expect anyone to? No. Like you point out, fun is subjective but it's nothing worth seething about or getting mad at anyone over. Naturally that goes for both roles. But I think it's fair to say that ending the match quickly and minimizing the amount of gameplay isn't the way most people prefer to play. Hence why nobody typically has anything nice to say about sweat.

To be clear, I play survivors and killers, so I am very familiar with both sides. Of course, it can be tactically correct to camp or tunnel, especially in the endgame.
However, there is talk of survivors abusing game mechanics, and that is exactly the point: currently, many killers abuse tunneling from the first hook or facecamping the first survivor to secure a kill quickly.
I don't want to punish killers across the board, I want survivors to have a fair chance to participate in the game for more than two minutes.
Honestly I don't think anyone too invested in the game (i.e. the people that seethe and go "typical survivor/killer") will ever understand why most players tend not to like tunneling or genrushing. The simple answer is, it eliminates gameplay way too early like you said. This isn't a game like League where you continue to play until the objective is reached. Once someone speedruns the match or decides you're out within minutes of joining, that's it.
Leave it up to these same people to use fun passive aggressively in quotations. lol Isn't that the goal of any game? To have fun? Personally I play in a way that hopefully ensures everyone can have a good time. But most people don't and it's not against the rules not to, so it isn't some kind of demand. It'd just be nice to be less likely to be sweated out of the match so early, whether that's via hook or gens being completed way too quickly.

"grabbed off of gens or vaults despite letting go"
Since when? I got screwed by missed grabs so many times. It is not 100% grab and even now you sometimes don't get that transition to m1 they promised.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQ4fUJrYirA
Does this seem fair to you?
Since the entire time I've been playing lol There's been several times where I've let go of gen and the killer pulls me off. The vaulting is less common, but it does happen. Locker happens constantly. Try running Head On and take note of your results.
Like I said, as long as the game itself is borked, there's always going to be issues. The way they described the new system makes sense, so reverting it doesn't seem like it's going to really fix the problem that had already existed. Hopefully once it's ironed out (good luck seeing how long that'll be though tbh), it'll be better overall. That includes the video you posted, where all the sounds of a successful hit trigger even though the server doesn't recognize it as one. It's a bug they intend to fix, like someone else mentioned earlier.
-
First time I played, the hatch spawned in the Lounge (the area with the Unicorn statue above the 1F waiting room on the west wing). You can run right below it, which seems nonsensical.
Unrelated, but fog only spawns on the first floor too.
-
I'd like this too, especially with Legendaries implemented. Default and Prestige items should be considered part of a set for easy management.
-

You have a perk for exactly this, that's one.
You have like 5 anti tunnel/camp perks, that's two.
As mentioned above it was already tested and wasn't a good idea, that's three.
If killer camps you can just do gens for free and leave him with one hook. Don't like someone's playstyle - punish it. The absolutely worst you can do is tbag him. Oh hi, I see you doing nothing, yes, yes that's awesome, you're next <3, that's four.
If someone wants to camp they will.
I was just about to post Steve's perk lol
That's my best recommendation, OP.

Well, but we know we are getting "robbed".
Problem is that survivos don't need to finish animation, they just need to start it and server will protect them.
Try to play Wraith for some time and you will see.
This has happened as survivor for a long time. Not only with pallets, but getting pulled out of closed lockers and grabbed off of gens or vaults despite letting go or making it across in time. As long as killer begins pressing the button (and it looks legit from their end), you're boned. It's a problem with the game itself imo.
Pallets seem much more fair now, and it's still possible to drop it too early or to get too greedy and miss. Afaik, this only changes how it recognizes things. Instead of prioritizing both (which is what I assume still happens with the aforementioned locker/gen/vault situations), it picks one over the other.
-
People have asked why No Mither leaves blood orbs, but it's apparently intended. I don't see how that works all though, aside from blood pools being a separate mechanic from blood orbs for some odd reason. No Mither is far from meta, so buffing it (rather, fixing it to be perfectly honest) to not leave blood orbs wouldn't have a drastic impact.
Thanatophobia I'd argue is something different so it'd require a different counter-perk. But the blood orb thing is still stupid and nobody seems too keen on addressing it.

I wish the licensed chapters had more room for music from the properties themselves. I like that the Silent Hill chapter music snuck in motifs from the games. Little nods to Theme of Laura, Flower Crown Of Poppy, etc. in the theme.

I see too many players say "I have to play x, y, or z way" as if the game is holding them at gunpoint to use unfun perks or BM. They feed into the cycle and then get upset when it's not changing.

That's what always bugs me. They charge for this stuff, even more than ever now, but don't put care into making sure it all works properly before launch.
