  • Demogorgon is mostly fine, but could maybe stand to receive a few small buffs/QoL changes here and there.

IMO it is an enjoyable killer to play against, but also a rather challenging killer to play due to some of the flaws inherent in its kit (portals are slow to prep and use with heavy placement restrictions, Shred sometimes gets blocked by dumb objects like doorways and fire barrels, its add-on complement is very underwhelming, and DG makes so much noise with every action that its hard for survivors NOT to know its approximate location at any given moment).

I think Demogorgon is kinda in the same boat as Pig and Wraith: fun to play and capable of being very powerful (especially with the right add-ons), but let down by specific base-kit problems that the survivors can sometimes exploit to handicap these killers.

  • The graphical updates are primarily visual reworks, not fundamental/design reworks. Usually the most that really happens is a few major structures on the map will see some re-designing in order to work with Breakable Walls and everything else will otherwise only get a facelift. I'm fully expecting to see some layout adjustments to the Ski Lodge and the Lookout Post, and pretty much nothing else.

When they get around to giving Ormond it's update, it will probably continue to be an unpleasant map for playing killer until their team gets around to working on changes more focused on each map's gameplay instead of appearances.

Rancor is definitely not "downright terrible". It's not good either, but you get a notification of where every survivor is when a gen gets completed, and you get to insta-kill one survivor at the end. It's not completely useless but there are better perks for sure.

Rancor also lets the Obsession know where you are (unless you are Undetectable). It's pretty much just a worse version of Dark Sense that has a situational mori caveat lumped into it. It's a terrible perk.

  • "Best" will vary by killer. Some combos work better on certain characters (such as STBFL on Demogorgon or M&A on Deathslinger).

But to give you an idea of what's kind of universally considered pretty good (as in, functionally useful or valuable on most killers):

    • BBQ & Chili
    • Discordance
    • Ruin (plus Undying and/or Surveillance, if you like)
    • Pop Goes the Weasel
    • Save the Best for Last
    • Monitor & Abuse
    • Enduring (plus Spirit Fury as an option)
    • Devour Hope
    • Corrupt Intervention
    • Deathbound

The worst killer perks are ones that just have little-to-no meaningful effect or are too situational/weak to be useful. Not trying to write a novel though, so here's just a few that are pretty widely thought of as downright terrible:

    • Monstrous Shrine
    • Insidious
    • Cruel Limits
    • Rancor (though it can be fun for "Rancor Roulette")
    • Furtive Chase (can be fun for the same reason as Rancor)
    • Predator
    • Territorial Imperative
    • Unrelenting

    ...And many more.

  • I mean, what am I supposed to do if I don't have any non-basement hooks within a reasonable range of the person I downed? Just let them go?

A lot of killer players who have no major intentions of camping/tunneling will actually avoid using the basement when possible (or only use the front hook) just because it usually costs them extra time to hook someone down there.

It sucks to get hooked in the basement as survivor, especially if your team isn't bold enough to even bother attempting a rescue, but to call it BM seems like a very extreme leap in logic to me. It's roughly the same as calling BM on survivors who prioritize the map's optimal gens first (to reduce the risk of a 3-Gen situation).

  • I'd definitely like to see the infamous Snow Truck make a return when Ormond gets its graphical update; it was a pretty neat-looking tile in spite of its problems.

If it does return though, I hope they nerf it first. This thing was nearly on-par with the God-Bus window in ridiculous chase-extension. If it simply had an open drop on the other side of the cabin (not a vault) and a pallet at the rear of the truck instead of the front, then that might open it up for better mind-game potential and make it a more fun tile.

Just got bond from the shrine, definitely going to try it out. Would you say bond is better than empathy? Thanks!

Bond is a little more consistent than Empathy since it's aura reading is always active, but the tradeoff is shorter range.

It's a pleasant perk; I definitely do enjoy it more than Empathy (though I like Aftercare more than both of 'em personally).

  • Bit of a cosmetic faux pas on their part.

Admittedly, I'm not that concerned with losing these shirts (I don't really like how any of them look besides Nea's Dev-Team torso), but I am genuinely curious how the heck these cosmetics got accidentally given to everyone? Out of a bugfix patch to boot. 2020 gets just a little bit sillier every day.

  • It's very VERY hard for survivors to have the "perfect game" of 32K BP. Keep in mind that the killer is competing with 4 survivors for points and emblems. Each survivor is competing with the killer AND 3 other survivors for a limited amount of possible points.

There's also the fact that survivors have to deal with the Survival category, which is the hardest BP category to max out in DbD (since ~63% of its total points require escaping the trial and the few other Survival score events aren't worth a whole lot).

Another thing to consider is that some killers are just BP-Generators whose powers rapidly churn out points. Freddy, Legion, Doctor, Wraith, and now Blight all have a surprisingly easy time racking up BP, even if their match goes sideways in the end. Other killers like Plague and Pyramid Head have difficulty earning BP because the score events for using their powers are low.

Tl;dr: Survivors just need a boost to the amount of points they can earn from most of their interactions (mainly Objective and Boldness) and also need more score events for Survival BP.

  • BP you earn from gameplay (trials, offerings, perks, etc) caps out at 1,000,000 BP.

BP earned from giveaways and redeemed codes can exceed that cap.

If you were at the cap already and redeemed a code, you'd go over the 1-Mil limit. However, you would not continue to earn additional BP from playing trials until you dropped back below the BP cap. Since the "Special BP" that ignores the cap is automatically used before "Gameplay BP" is, you won't be able to go back above 1,000,000 BP again after spending it.

Mind you, sometimes the BP cap does glitch out a little and grants some leniency (I got slightly above the cap during last weekend's Bloodhunt), but the above is how it normally works.

  • I personally hate Deliverance, but that's just me. Nothing wrong with it for solo survivor, I just tend to have bad luck and get very little use out of it.

Other perks to consider trying out are Kindred, Detective's Hunch, and any survivor-aura-reading perks (Bond, Empathy, Aftercare). Oh, and We're Gonna Live Forever is nice to run now too (bonus BP and good anti-slugging tool).

Though it's not like BT, DS, and SB aren't useful when solo too. You'll have to mix-n-match a little based on what you want from the build. Second Chances are strong, but bringing some altruistic and/or info perks can be fun too (more fun, IMO).

Wait is the deathgarden mask now released for everyone?

They're just talking about the shirts, OP probably unlocked the Deathgarden mask when it was available.

  • Honestly, the resurgence in FNaF posts is starting to make me feel like I'm playing "Five Nights at Thread-y's".

But dumb jokes aside, FNaF is a pretty big "meh" from me. I guess it'd be fine if they choose to add it, but it's not on my wishlist.

  • I know Autohaven is the realm I'd rather see visually upgraded; I think there's a lot of potential for cool asset designs and I could actually see breakable walls being an interesting inclusion on Gas Heaven (both in the Gas Station and as tunnels through the car stacks.

I'd really like for Ormond to get an actual layout redesign though (graphically, I just want it to be made much darker so that scratch marks are more visible against the snow). It's really frustrating to play on as most killers, which is a shame because its ambient sound effects are pretty cool.

  • Probably a rework. I don't think there's much more they can do with Legion's kit without more dynamic changes to it.

At the very least, Deep Wounds needs improved to be a more effective/useful status (or replaced entirely with a Legion-unique status, since that was its original role).

  • Doctor, Legion, and Clown are all pretty straightforward characters if that's what you're seeking. They are pretty easy to get into, but they can feel a little bland after a while due to their simplicity (in my opinion of course. All of them have some devoted players).

However, Blight and Oni are speedy boys; it makes them really fun to learn and play (kind of drives a constant desire to improve with them which I think just isn't present for the above 3).

Otherwise Spirit is widely considered to be very strong and isn't that tough to learn if you're up to the challenge. She's certainly not a "pick up and play" killer, but she's also not a "take yer lumps first" killer like Nurse or Hag.

  • Just to add something new to the list: Insidious

On the rare occasions that it does get used, it's pretty much only used for camping (especially when the basement's involved). Sure old Freddy had some crazy synergy with it, but he's changed and the perk has returned to being an extra camping tool.

Trail of Torment is basically just a better-designed version of Insidious in modern DbD.

  • Guess this means that the concerns some people had about perk standardization (slightly) increasing the grind were unfounded.

Well, at least until it gets fixed.

  • You'd presumably keep any DLC that you "own" on either platform. At least, that'd be my guess.

  • I mean, We're Gonna Live Forever used to be arguably the second-worst survivor perk (its only "effect" was a post-trial BP bonus) and it's probably a meta perk now due to its crazy anti-slugging potential.

Tinkerer used to be pretty weak too, but now it's also become part of the killer meta after its own buff (helped along by Ruin/Undying of course).

Obviously there are more bad perks to fix (and some that will probably always be junk like Cruel Limits), but it's not like they're just ignoring bad perks. Hopefully we'll see even more meaningful changes with their next round of perk updates.

  • Was it an event hook (covered in the slimy orange flowers)? Those cannot be sabotaged for the duration of the event.

It's an intended feature to prevent survivors from bullying killers by destroying all their event hooks (thus not allowing them to earn any bonus BP from events).

  • Pineapple isn't something I'm fond of, so no. Not big on fruits that fight back (spiky!)

Besides, green peppers on pizza are so much tastier.

  • I just take a short break to do something else for a little bit. Might listen to music, read, doodle, watch a movie, etc.

I've found that things tend to only get worse if I'm queueing into trials while still frustrated from an earlier one. Better to cool the jets first so I can play smarter in the next match.

  • I used the last Rift to get better with Huntress (on console) and Leatherface's updated power.

This time around I'm hoping to become a little more effective with Blight. Also considering spending a little more time with Billy, Demogorgon, and Pig as well.

On the survivor end of things, I'm mainly hoping to get more used to the current flashlight-aiming. And I could always use extra practice with looping too.

Why wouldn't they? I already explained why I created this thread and I am indeed answering every single question.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1722015#Comment_1722015

    It's a sause. So no.

    I'm afraid that's where you're wrong actually:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5jnftBQw2U
  • I want to like Ghost Face very badly. For me, he's right on the cusp of being really neat to play against and that makes his problems feel even more aggravating.

But his inconsistent reveal mechanic is extremely frustrating to play around. Plus his strongest add-on combo is double-recovery so that he can more easily "99" survivors with stalking to almost immediately 1-tap them with the Mark mechanic.

He feels randomly pitiful or oppressive just like Pig's RBTs due to how goofily his Shroud/Reveal mechanics work, except that that's his whole power and he can use it more than 4 times in a match.

  • Trapper. First killer I played in the first match I ever played. Though I'd been watching a few DbD content creators for a couple weeks prior to getting DbD, so I probably started with more game knowledge than the average newbie.

  • I'd love to have a bot/practice mode. Pretty sure it's something on their list, I just hope that they might make it a higher priority (if it isn't already).

Beyond using such a mode to develop your own skills/confidence as killer, it could be an excellent way to relieve frustration. Had a couple of really bad matches that soured your mood? Why not take all that anger out on bots who will happily accept such abuse instead of continuing the cycle of toxicity and ruining someone else's day?

Aside from maybe introducing more bugs, I see nothing but positives to adding in something like this.

  • Nitpicking here, but I think you mean "Is there any killer as controversial as Springtrap?" Decisive would imply that he was/is super important for the game (I'd argue that only Micheal Myers and Pyramid Head are true decisive characters for DbD).

And probably not, because FNaF is a pretty controversial horror series to begin with. It toes the line between trying to appeal to adults (with the uncomfortable atmospheres and dark back-stories) and pandering to children (with tons of toys, merchandise, and the entirety of FNaF World).

I know Resident Evil and Silent Hill also have figurines in their characters' likenesses, but those seem to have been generally marketed more as collector's items for older fans of either franchise rather than as actual toys (quick tangent though: I gotta say, Plushamid Head is probably the most adorable manifestation of inner guilt I've ever seen).

    Plushamid Head.jpg

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people simply don't feel that FNaF is a worthy series to stand alongside many of the horror icons that have already entered the Fog. Although, this same argument probably could have been leveled at Stranger Things too (I really don't need to hear more about how people didn't like season 2 or season 3), but Demogorgon, Steve, and Nancy snuck in anyway.

Is Springtrap or a FNaF Chapter/Paragraph a valid future possibility? - Yes

Is FNaF a franchise that I really care about seeing added to DbD? - No

Am I going to throw a fit if they do bring FNaF to DbD? - Of course not! As long as they make it a fun chapter.

  • I hope they might be able to expand upon this idea for LF in the future. Specifically, I'd really like for him to be able to unlock bodies where he's attempting to wear the default clothes of each of those survivors too (like Dwight's business shirt or Jake's Trail Jacket).

  • If it helps, Otz revisited his old add-on guide to discuss which ones he thinks are (or are not) worth using. It's like 8 hours long, but you can skip around and just the watch parts that correspond to killers you like.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShD_xVH8DR0

While it's not super combo-specific, he does periodically mention how well certain add-ons work in tandem with each other and how you might make use of some of these (or if they are bugged/detrimental/useless and should never be seriously brought).

  • But can the goose cosmetic actually be a rubber chicken head? Preferably one that squeaks when you run (like Jingle Dwelf, but more annoying). I'd be all-in to unlock something like that.

Plus getting Duck-Duck-Goosed by DbD's resident cosmic-horror-monster sounds like an interesting way to spend a Saturday.

  • Pretty much anyone who isn't Freddy.

Like, there are definitely other killers I don't really enjoy playing against very much, but they all pale in comparison to the sheer boredom I suffer when playing against Freddy. He's the buzzkill of DbD.

  • Alan Wake from his self-titled games.

    The Black Knight from Scooby-Doo.

Various characters from Outlast (Chris Walker, Miles Upshur, etc).

Various characters from The Evil Within (The Keeper, Ruvik, Joseph Oda, Juli Kidman, etc).

  • You can definitely win at red ranks against decent teams using off-meta perks and killers, but you also have to accept that these things can easily backfire (especially if you get a poor map choice for your killer/build or the survivors come loaded for bear). It's just the risk you have to take when breaking away from the meta.

Even though you might not win as often though, I think it's a lot more fun to mix things up and experiment with wacky builds. For example, I've been playing a lot of "Shaman Bubba" and "Break Everything Wraith" recently and finding far more success than I was expecting to have with either of them.

  • Surprised Rotten Fields and Fractured Cowshed didn't make the list too. I'd actually argue they're worse than The Game and roughly on-par with modern-day Haddonfield (IMO it's not as painful of a map after Balanced Landing was nerfed, even if it's far from great).

But I don't think maps that are overly biased are really all that fun in general. It's annoying to feel like everything's been stacked against you because the map favored your opponent(s). As the map-favored role, winning on these maps feels also feels like less of an accomplishment, which takes a lot of the satisfaction out of victory. I want to feel like I outplayed the person/people I'm playing against, not like the game mostly did it for me (or for them).

  • I'm inclined to guess we've got a decent shot at a licensed character for the next chapter. BHVR usually like to aim for two original and two licensed killers each year. We've already gotten Deathslinger and Blight, but I think Pyramid Head was the only licensed killer of 2020 so far.

People can speculate about who the licensed killer would be (if they are indeed a licensed character), but I do hope it's either Jason, the Xenomorph, or more survival horror game characters personally.

  • Weirdly enough, I'm probably most excited to see Nurse in the trials (I'm on console, so she's the rarest killer to ever play against). But Billy, Oni, Blight, Demo, and Myers are all super fun too. Pretty much anyone that isn't listed below is usually a fine adversary.

Killers I hate playing against would be Freddy, Plague, Clown, and Hag. I don't think any of these 4 have powers that are fun to play around (I'd argue that their powers aren't that fun to actually play with either, but that's just my opinion).

  • The biggest thing for me is that Billy is extremely headache-inducing now due to all the new audio associated with him. The roar, the chase music, and especially that ear-splitting menu theme.

I actually like his new chainsaw noise, but it's outweighed by everything else that he's assaulting my senses with.

  • Pretty sure they mostly only exist for meme builds, or to provide an extra challenge.

They seem to have been designed in a similar vein to UR add-ons (intended to largely shake up how a killer's power works) except that these are laughably terrible instead.

I actually kind of like that these exist. I just wish more of them added something new and fun to the power in exchange for adding the handicap (like Scratched Mirror on Myers).

  • These are the +50% and +75% BP in one category offerings right?

I'd be okay with ditching them outright if it meant replacing them (at common rarity) with their green equivalents that give the 100% BP bonus in one category.

Otherwise there are plenty of other offerings I'd retire before I turned these off (like Shrouds and Oaks).

  • @Ace_Ventura said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/202195/bloodpoints-offerings-are-weird

They aren't more rare. It's just how rarities work. For example - Leatherface used to get a TON of mori's on his bloodwebs. Why? Cause that was the only ultra rare he had up until recently (because he never had ultra rare addons before). Basically, there's more of x rarity, so the ones you want tend to appear less often.

    I mean, technically yes.

But I think OP meant that some of these offerings are simply of a higher (color) rarity than their better equivalents. Ie, Survivor Pudding is a better BP bonus than any of the green wreaths despite being of a lower rarity than all of them.

  • Just to try and add a few names I don't think I've seen mentioned yet (there are plenty already here that I'd otherwise second):

I always enjoyed seeing posts and discussions from @Boss. Often fun and interesting, and usually lighthearted enough that things don't get bogged down by lots of pessimistic responses. Despite his icon, he doesn't usually Devour Hope.

Otherwise @ZCerebrate for their "Data Snapshots" of the game. Sure most DbD Data is pretty hard to quantify reliably, but their field research and results were really fascinating to look through all the same.

  • David was my main survivor (and Hallowed Dwight), but they both kinda got demoted when Felix came out. What can I say? I want to survive the night in style.

I don't explicitly main any specific killer, but my favorite is probably a tossup between Huntress, Blight, or Leatherface. Huntress/Blight have extremely satisfying powers that make them feel super replayable, but I think Leatherface and/or Pyramid Head have the coolest-looking character models in DbD.

  • In addition to what @Mew said with the infinites:

There used to also be no Entity Blockers or Bloodlust mechanic. Pretty much any decent loop could feasibly be an infinite or near-infinite if it involved a window.

Entity Blockers were added in Update 1.1.2

Bloodlust was added in Update 1.5.0 (same update that NOED first became the Hex perk we all know and complain about).

Edit: Guess these were mentioned in someones earlier list (whoops), but here they are again anyway.

  • New Bubba still has his sound bug (if you get stunned while Chainsaw Dashing, the saw revving will continue until you use your power again).

But yeah, PH's version is equally annoying. That scraping is REALLY loud and was very irritating to be stuck with before I realized that tapping the power button will end the bug (as SupriseSurprise said). Well, end the bug until it happens again.

I'm on Xbox One, but I wouldn't be surprised if these audio bugs were present on all platforms.

  • I think Father Campbell's Chapel is the best map in DbD. Mostly balanced (maybe slightly killer-biased) with a really fun-but-usually-fair main structure and a reasonable map size.

Worst maps are a 3-way tie between Midwich, Shelter Woods, and Rotten Fields. I think they're the most boring maps available from a gameplay standpoint. I'd be completely okay with never playing on this trio of maps ever again.

  • @TAG said:

I'm willing to bet that someone misinterpreted how the RBTs work. I've had multiple people who tried to run out with an active Trap, die, and then postgame go "######### I thought you can leave through the exit gates with Traps now."

From what I understand it would be VERY "in-lore" for Amanda to let the survivors think that. She did like to rig her games to be pretty unfair.
