  • Would like to confirm this bug, or at least a similar iteration of it on PS5. If the challenge is not completed in a single run when being set today (10/14/23 Pacific Standard Time), the challenge will not randomize the perks, but keep the initial randomized loadout from the first attempt.

There is a workaround that if you unselect the challenge, equip a different challenge, then equip the challenge again, then it will track progress again.

I'm on PC, the "match found" screen happens a bit, I chalk it up to something related to matchmaking but I truly have no idea why it happens. As for the item issue it happens to me all the time and it's sooo frustrating, the number of times I'm spamming my key to drop a survivor before they wiggle out and it doesn't work is like way too much.

Is this recent, or has it been an ongoing thing? This definitely only started in the last 24 hours for, but that's not to say it's not related to some other ongoing issue.

  • 7th Anniversary, 7 Minutes, 7 Wesker Matches.

  • GlitchyGamer, unfortunately it is a cultural problem that goes way beyond Dead By Daylight and even gaming. I don't think you're being dismissed by anyone here, more so that the problem is so overwhelmingly large there just isn't anything Behavior can do. The sort of man-power you would need to monitor the amount of communications would absolutely dwarf the size of the studio and even with automated tools you face the issues of improper bans or missed ones.

Behvaior also can't act outside of the what's said directly in the game chat. For example, after playing a match on PS4, I had someone message me saying they were going to falsely report and stalk me until I was banned from the game all while spewing hateful garbage at me. Mind you, PS4 has no in-game chat, I could not say anything to this person to incite this, yet this they still had a disturbing meltdown over a completely normal match.

When I approached Behavior, they said because the incident occurred over PSN they could not take action. This is because they have no direct access to those messages, therefore no way to validate them internally. Sony, however, did ban this player from PSN within 24 hours of reporting. After that I disabled all messages not from friends. However, this just led to users sending me friend requests that used the friend request subject line to harass me instead, again call me horrible things. At that point I had to disable all friend requests and set my profile to private.

At some point we have to be accountable to ourselves for what we are and are not able to tolerate. We only control ourselves and can't force people to act in accordance with what we believe is right, only use the systems in place to try and influence them positively. Like many people who voice the same complaints, if you've spent a significant amount of time on the game, you're also butting up against a psychological phenomenon called Sunk-Cost Fallacy. It can play into addiction, can cause a sense of entitlement that you have a say in the thing you are invested in (whether you actually do or not), and can cause a lot anger, frustration, and distress when you run into issues like that that you yourself can not resolve even if you think you should be able to.

The reality is that we are not the owners or creators of this game and we only get as much of a say as the devs are willing to allow us, that being none at all if they so choose. We also aren't the parents or guardians of the people who upset us, nor the police or government who can legislate and regulate acceptable behavior. At some point you need to have the accountability to say "I'm done with this thing because the negatives of being here outweigh the positives." If you choose to stay, report on the proper platforms, block chats, or do whatever you need to to get to the place you need to enjoy it, or quit if that's the only option left. Doesn't make people's behavior morally right, don't mean the harassers win, it just means that you chose to leave an environment that hurt you more than it gave you happiness.

  • I just finished a 3+ hour stream with a friend and double checked and there was never any indication of any bonus multiplier. I also checked on my screen and saw nothing the entire time, checked my husband's and nothing. The points only ever reflected the offerings that we put up. I honestly don't think it's working.

  • I am very much going to be playing on auto-pilot and trying to make the best of that 100% BP bonus with 0 expectation to actually succeed at a good game, lol.

  • Just wanted to chime in and say that this was completely unwarranted. Blast Mine was already detectible through the yellow puff of smoke, meaning observant killers could avoid triggering it altogether. I can't see this ever being a viable perk to bring anymore at this point. The payoff is too little.

  • Dude, I just had my first match. Within about 30 seconds I see a teammate being carried (mind you, I forgot to watch anybody play PTB to get a feel for Wesker in advance and can't play PTB since the computer bit the big one). So I was like, huh, ok, adjustment period. Whatever. Player is hooked, then immediately I see another person down. Then just as one gets pulled, another down as I'm running to get hook #2. It was just a carousel of downs after that. I got 75% of 1 gen done when we were down to 2 people. All of this in a span of about 3 minutes. And I got screwed over because it was my first time on the RPD map and got disoriented due to the rework (I was an RE2 Remake player who already knew the map before the DBD release).

I feel like today is going to be a struggle......

  • I can relate to this. I caught covid 2 weeks ago after dodging it for 2 years and got put on paxlovid. The bad taste side effect made me so nauseous I ended up in the ER from a panic attack out of fear of vomiting. Since it's simulated and not an actual person, I can usually muscle through going against her in the game. But I even had a day a while back where it really got to me and I almost had to put my controller down and just throw the match.

Lame as others might think it is, I would be totally down for an alternate sound and/or color as an accessibility option. I'm sure they could manage where it only displays/sounds different on your end too, so nobody can really complain anyways.

  • @Viciusaurus said:

I've been facing weird errors after getting kicked from matches, usually about how something can't be instantiated, and it's become more frequent for me, so I imagine it's a possibility that's what's happened to them.

Hm, ok. I'm not sure if it's related, but probably good to keep an eye on. I didn't experience anymore issues after that match after playing quite a while yesterday with and without our friend on a different internet connection. But I'll pop back in here if that changes.

  • I think I've answered this previously, but I'll put a new answer: Because I'm clearly a masochist who likes to be insulted anytime I say anything. /s

I really miss when message boards were a friendly place where the majority of people were just super excited to talk about a cool thing they liked.

Are u mad bro? Sef care to counter hemorrhage? It takes 32 secs to heal a normal heal, over 40 debuffed with mangled/hemorrhage. Thats half a gen man.

i play GF with Sloppy+Nurses Calling precisely to find survs doing what u mentioned

Ah yes, because I'm clearly too stupid to adapt tactics mid-match when I learn what people are running.

Man I love interacting with this community. /s

  • For high MMR and especially solo queue, this perk is very useful.

Self care is extremely important to counter hemorrhage. If you're short on med kit charges and heals elsewhere aren't available for one of a myriad of reasons, it ensured you could finish the heal. It is also a counter to Franklin's, as good killers will keep you away from your dropped med kit until depleted or bank on downing you if you try to retrieve it.

If the killer interrupts a heal and you break free of the chase, it gives you the chance to to finish a heal you may have struggled to get otherwise.

It allows you to stealth heal while not having to risk being caught out trying to find a chest or someone else.

It allows you self-reliance, which is incredibly important in solo queue. You can't force your teammates to act in a certain manner, only hope that they play in a logical way that helps you. This is neither always nor frequently the case. Self-care gave you the agency to make decisions independently of your teammates. It also provides consistency in a game where so much can be situational.

If I thought anything would happen with self-care, it was that maybe this nerfed version would become base-kit like BT is changing.

  • @Ravakahr said:

Yeah well I'd still pay for the option ;) and I have 5k hours. If you don't like it don't buy it.

Edit: And tbh people that throw around "I'll drop the game" are already looking for an excuse to drop the game. And you'd probably keep playing it anyway like you always do. "Nerf dead hard or I'll quit the game" those same people still play the game. Or the current forum feedback as of today "Nerf Nurse or Delete her"...."Or I'll Quit the game"... will you? Do they? No. Nor do I GAF. Give me the option to have double exp all the time. I am dead set tired of playing for 30 minutes for 15k to buy 2-3 perks in one blood web. Thanks you can have $$$.

If you actually look at this history of gaming, this is a real phenomenon that has created legitimate issues within gaming. Not everyone is "looking for an excuse to drop the game." There are real tolls to how games monetize themselves, such as exploiting addiction through unhealthy feedback loops and "Fear of Missing Out." I don't think it's right to shame someone because they believe in ethical business practices. Please keep in mind too, that just because a bunch of people say something for a certain reason, doesn't mean that someone else who says something similar thinks the same way. We're all individuals with our own beliefs and motivations.

If you see a Legion with Joey’s Christmas sweater and cosplay mask, nod at me and I shall farm with you

I had such a rough night as survivor yesterday that I am also jumping on this bandwagon. Will be playing as Susie with the Paint Stained Clothes (the neon cosmetic) and Blighted mask/weapon with The pride bird and flags on my hooks. I won't kill anyone before all gens are done at the least, and I will let anyone with sparkles escape since I've seen inconsistencies with masks being awarded.

  • How about Mara (as in from Persona cause uh, they have one very obvious feature in common...).

Are you guys aware that the reason DS and BT remain meta has to do with 2 common playstyles in-game? Camping and Tunneling.

I am not sure how you could change those perks without changing the reason why they get brought in constantly.

Edit: Just saw you answered this early on.

You hit on one of the two biggest issues here. If something about the core mechanics doesn't change, the usefulness of those perks doesn't change, and the usefulness of other perks doesn't change.

The second point is that as long as the Killer is an RNG element, certain perks will never be useful. If you bring in an aura blocking perk and the killer has no aura reading, wasted slot. In contrast, If you bring in Lightborn and nobody brings flashbangs or flashlights, wasted slot.

This is something that has been called out years ago. Yes, you could bring in all these non-meta perks, but you could also end up with a loadout that is completely useless by not being applicable. And buffing those perks may not change that.

Meta perks exist because they are applicable to core mechanics that occur in every single match.

Non-meta perks are such because there is a risk they may not be applicable or so situational they don't outweigh the benefit of bringing in something else that affect something guaranteed to happen.

In that respect, I think it's going to be very difficult to try and achieve what they are aiming for here. Instead, as a lot of people have said here on the forums, certain meta perks may need to be folded into the base kit of survivors and then killer gameplay will have to balanced around this change, perhaps by adding a secondary objective for survivors.

  • I have a few ideas (don't necessarily need to do all of them, but at least a few in some combination).

    1. Get rid of perk tiers.
    2. Remove brown/yellow single category BP offerings or signficantly buff their payouts (100%, 200%, 300%).
    3. Presitging let's you keep all perks you have unlocked, just knocks them down to tier 1 (or if perk tiers go, then it can remain the same as it is now).
    4. Raise BP cap on the 4 scoreboard categories (not unlimited due to farming, but a bit higher).
    5. Get rid of brown/yellow/green mist/luck offerings, leaving only the purple versions of each.
    6. Consider "Ash Tier" item categories and make their cost 1000 BP.

On number 2 of your points, this might be a good idea but would be a lot to implement, but I would at least like to see us get a BP refund for leftover limited-time offerings we can no longer use. For number 3 of your list, I agree that the BP cap absolutely needs to go. It can already be surpassed for automatically given rewards like login bonuses, so there is no reason it shouldn't be uncapped (or at least capped at something ridiculous, like 99,999,999 for coding's sake).

Yes my post is from weeks ago if you look. There have been many similar I acknowledged reports in the meantime. Same with the flashlights. They even put out an update last week and still won’t acknowledge anyone reporting toolboxes or flashlights being bugged/not working correctly.

I probably saw that post as well, lol. Trying to comment and acknowledge as much as I can to try help make sure this isn't forgotten (and in case others didn't see the work around). I want to say I'm really shocked that a core mechanic being bugged like this isn't being prioritized more, but it looks like we're seeing the start of another avalanche in terms of bugs. I'm having PTSD flashbacks to when Nemesis was release. I'm on console and am super worried that when the anniversary drops, the game is going to become unplayable again.

  • Just an FYI, if you set down your toolbox and pick it up again, you should be able to use it. This bug has been going on for a couple weeks and I'm not sure why this hasn't been more broadly addressed, but this is at least a soft fix for now.

  • I noticed this on console there has been a significant amount of lag since the last update, similar to when Nemesis was released.

On your third point, you're wrong there in two ways.

Chatterer is gay, I believe. He precedes Sadako. Additionally, that's not the version of Sadako we have in-game. 'Our' Sadako, despite the marketing, is largely based on the Japanese movie, where the whole intersex thing was never established.

That's fair. I am not familiar with the Hellraiser IP beyond recognizing Pinhead's appearance, so I didn't want to speak to something I was unsure of. But great point of that being the case.

Also, I wasn't explicit to say it, but I was implying that by going with the movie canon over the novel, they were choosing the portrayal which commits LGBTQ erasure, rather than embracing material that contained it, which kind of flies in the face of inclusivity. But it may have been a condition for use of the character by the rights holders, sadly.

First of all: your negative side is the first time it’s formulated in a respectful and valid way. I have to disagree as tomes are in general always adding new experiences, struggles, relationships, etc to a character but i still see where you are coming from.

on Sadako: I think they meant first original created LGBTQIA2+ character by BHVR. Otherwise we do have next to Sadako also Chatterer and the CryptTV monsters/characters as legendary characters as well. But it’s worth noting in these topics anyways!

I always try my best to as objective as I can, so thanks for that acknowledgement!

I agree, they may have indeed meant the first original.

  • As an LGBTQ person, I don't know if this will ever sit quite right with me. But I only speak for myself, as an individual of this community, so these are my thoughts. Feel free to take them or leave them.

On the positive side, I appreciate the explanation and thought that was put into it. I think self-discovery after living a certain way makes for good character development. It's also great to consult about LGBTQ experiences.

On the negative side, if it wasn't your intentions for the character at the outset, I don't think it can ever be truly genuine. Having the equivalent of a "coming out announcement" also seems strange and placating. In my eyes, the best representation simply exists without pomp and circumstance.

On the REALLY negative side, David King is not the "first LGBTQIA2+ character" in the game and the fact that this is missed is actually kind of devastating. The "I" in the full acronym used in the announcement stands for "intersex." If you've read Koji Suzuki's Ring novel you would know that Sadako Yamamura is in-fact intersex, as revealed at the climax of the story when Kazuyuki Asakawa and Ryuji Takayama discover the origins of the curse with Sadako's death at the hands of Dr. Nagao (referenced in Part 3, Ch. 11). The film adaptations favored erasure of Sadako's intersex identity, an integral part of the novel's depiction of Sadako as a proxy for the AIDs pandemic, and themes of trans panic and homophobia (though the book is a product of its time/cultural climate and thus such elements were presented negatively in the context of the story).

This was really a missed opportunity to return to the source material of the Ring and present Sadako as the face LGBTQIA2+ inclusiveness being sought and helping to restore her image as the intersex character that she is.

You probably have the ''use toolbox'' input binded to the same button you use to repair generators normally and that's why you don't get the option, happened to me....

This isn't a keybinding problem. I am on default controls on PS4 and this just became a problem for me as well after the last update.

FYI: You can "fix" your toolbox by setting it down and picking it up again.

Also would like to add that this occurs for me about 25-50% of the time I bring in any kind of toolbox with or without various addons. Can concur that it is on multiple maps. It also can occur on multiple gens per map (meaning it's toolbox specific, not generator specific).

  • Would also like to confirm this. I was playing against a Spirit with Rancor as a survivor and after the last gen was finished, as the Obsession, I took a hit from full health and didn't not go down. The exposed status effect did not show on my screen as well.

  • I would like to confirm that this is also an issue on PS4. Tried to purchase Felix's outfit and received the same error.

    DBDpurchfail.jpg

  • Ok, that puts that to bed then. Definitely was a glitch. Thank you for taking the time to answer my posts! Hope you have a good rest of your day.

  • I answered bug reports/feedback, but I would much rather say community submissions (specifically Artwork, Cosplay, Props, but not OC characters/perk ideas...). Unfortunately, it feels like that sub is just too buried. I see great submissions now and then and hardly any upvotes. As much as I'd like to engage in other parts of the community, most of it devolved into people hate-screaming at each other and it's just not worth engaging in AT ALL.

  • Thanks, that mostly answers it but does lead me to think that the one instance may have been a bug (where the players didn't or couldn't open 2 of them). Are we also limited to only opening 1 envelope each? Because if so, I think what happened is the envelopes might have been opened, and then the modeled just glitched and stayed in the map regardless. Because both myself and a random teammate tried and couldn't get it to do anything.

  • Unfortunate it's not likely. Limited items are limited regardless of the circumstances. Switch players faced the same issue when the game came out on that platform and there has since been no mention to open these items up to them. However, it's not totally unprecedented either, as there were numerous items that were given away at one point to all players. I believe that was more so due to the fact that they were locked behind codes that people were reselling for profit against DBD's TOS.

I've basically gone through all the steps and still can't get the code to work. I've refreshed like 100 times, put all the dashes and triple checked to see if the code was wrong when I typed it in but it still gets denied. I looked at the bottom of the screen under the actual code, and since I did redeem the artist skins it does show up there, but it makes no sense why an already redeemed code would still be given to me considering it isn't redeemable anymore and the code is supposed to be for Blights skin. if anyone other than me is having this problem still and you've figured out the solution I'd appreciate the help

Oh man, I'm sorry this is still happening. If you still haven't been able to redeem it, I suggest opening a support ticket asap. You can use the form at https://support.deadbydaylight.com/hc/en-us/requests/new . I hope they can get it resolved for you since using a 3rd party system can be tricky.

  • Unfortunately there is not much that can be done. You could either let them take you to the hook without struggle, wait for end game collapse to end, or do what you did in this match. It's up to you to weigh whether the frustration that causes you is a fair trade off for the rest of how much you enjoy the game.

I will say there are people constantly frustrated by poor player behavior and neither the community that commits it nor the devs have made much movement to address this, so I would not count on that. Best bet is trying to set up private games with friends on a Kill Your Friends lobby. I also wish the devs would consider unranked KYF lobbies that you can allow public invites for like other games do. I think this would make a much better space for more casual players.

  • Most likely a licensing agreement with Capcom. Jill is the same way with her classic RE3 skin, even if the hair isn't really different. Everyone raised a stink about it when it came out, and to my knowledge, it wasn't really addressed by the devs.

  • @KolbyKolbyKolby said:

When I tried it, it kept giving me my artist code. I had to back out, go back into the prime gaming section and then "claim" the Blight skin and use the new one it gave me. Maybe try going directly here and seeing if it lets you "claim" it?

    https://gaming.amazon.com/loot/deadbydaylight

Thank you, I went back in, made sure to click directly on The Blight (I think this was missing yesterday?} and it issued the right code this time. If you scroll to bottom of the page where the code is generated, make sure it's showing The Blight and not The Artist and you should be good to go.

  • Having the same issue as well. Tried 4 times and couldn't get it to work, even entering manually exactly how it is with the dashes. Thought I was just messing it up still somehow, had my husband read the code to me and double check it, still would not accept it. Had no trouble before claiming The Artist codes either...

I don't know what it is but I just feel mentally drained just being apart of this community. Maybe I'm crazy but it seems like the community I'd just becoming more and more divided as the game progress and its just depressing and not too fun. Maybe I'm spending to much time on the forum and on dbd in general. Am I being ridiculous or are others feeling the same and is this a sign I need to take a break from dbd?

You are not being a ridiculous at all. Online gaming communities, and DBD is no exception, are full of hateful, aggressive people who absolutely suck the soul out of anyone that says anything. The last time I tried to write a nice, detailed idea on changes that would improve game health I only got one answer to my post where I was degraded and talked down to like I was a child. Online gaming has become an absolute hotbed for people who can't think critically, have no sense of appropriate social behavior, and generally just suck. There are a few good apples nestled amongst the rot, but good luck interacting with them without a deluge of garbage.

Take twitter for example. Somebody does this amazing piece of fanart, it's gets reposted by DBD/Behavior, and then followers start trash talking the devs on the post, flooding that person's twitter with hate. When they ask them to please stop, that the notifications are coming to them, not DBD/Behavior, they turn on that innocent person. I have seen multiple artists have to block all replies on their original post just to get it to stop, and some have posted afterward how they regret even posting their work at all. Freaking unbelievable.

I have a lot to unpack here, but first and foremost, I think this was a wrong choice. Second, I have some serious questions here about how we came to this...

1- I saw the recent influx of posts on the forums complaining about Blackface and racism in regards to the Claudette mask. I would like to know, of those complaints, how many posted proof of what they experienced? And proof that undeniably showed the racist intent? Because I wonder if this is actually a bunch of trolls (or one really sad, determined one) who decided to run a campaign to get this item "cancelled," so to speak. I won't get deep into it, but this has become a common political tactic on the internet (see "Bernie Bros" aka people who hated his political agenda and pretended to be his supporters while acting abominably to paint his real supporters in a horrible light and undermine his campaign). Then said people sit back and laugh when they achieve their intended outcome.

2- As previously said, why are these players not being banned outright? Part of the reason this culture of racism, misogyny, and abusive behavior even exists is because of executive hand-wringing over profits and player bases at the developer and platform level. Nintendo is one of the few, if only platforms that has ever cracked down on it and it's so incredibly past time that all devs, publishers, and platforms start holding players accountable and try to mitigate this. *Be a part of the solution, not the problem.*

3- Given the context of this being a horror game, where do we draw the line? Without being able to ask what put the devs over the line on this decision, this is up in the air, but some complaints here stated that simply having the item equipped was racist. Does that fit with the character's backstory? No. Leatherface most likely lacks the intellectual capacity to understand racism. But is it also alright to portray someone with a mental disability as a ruthless murder? What about other characters? James Sunderland is Silent Hill 2's protagonist in terms of storytelling, but he is no hero. Instead, he murdered his terminally ill wife and there are implications that he committed non-consensual acts against the nursing staff where Mary was receiving care. This is abhorrent behavior, but creates a complex, compelling character and story. And horror often is about pushing the limits of narratives and examining the darker side of human emotion through graphic story telling. But doesn't that mean we should be drawing the line not at the content of the game, which is in the realm of fictional, but clearly draw it at the *real life actions of players who are committing these hateful acts against other real people?*

Quoting myself to provide some extra context to what I'm about to say, but....

Removing the mask does nothing to stop those players from targeting POC survivor skins or IRL POC streamers/players. Just as banning a KKK uniform or Confederate flags does nothing to mitigate the behavior of racists outside of DBD. They simply co-opt different symbols, often less identifiable symbols, that let them operate in the open with more plausible deniability. We saw this happen with the Proud Boys adopting the OK hand gesture, Fred Perry polo shirts, black/yellow utilikilts, and tactical vests (credit: Anti Defamation League website). None of these items or symbols on their own are inherently racist, but taken together, they are the new white hooded cloaks for a modern hate group.

It will only be a matter of time after this cosmetic ban that they pick a new symbol coupled with a pattern of behavior, only with it being far less obvious to pick out these bad actors and issue actions against them due, again, to increased plausible deniability. Worse here is that they have also gained notoriety and power over the game and the Devs knowing that their concerted acts have succeeded in removing content of the game and may encourage them to carry out more acts in the future for an intended result.

  • Regenerador/ Iron Maiden from Resident Evil 4. Everything about them hit every nerve for me and brought back the scares full force when the game was starting to drag just a bit. So much thought and design were put into that one, single enemy, even down to which environments you had to face off against them in. The encounter in the claustrophobic freezer might give you the infrared scope and the secret to their weakness, but using it in such tight quarters made it a suffocating fight.

And if you somehow didn't put 2 and 2 together when you picked the scope up like I didn't, (thanks to watching the murder monster thaw and hit the floor 5 feet away), than even better! Then if you were (un)lucky enough to pick your shots just right and think "Ah, I'll shoot off it's legs to buy myself some time!" you were treated to its spasming remains scuttling towards you and flinging atyour face.

Later you had the joy of navigating the Iron Maidens, the spikey ones who like to impale you with big, friendly hugs all while having to worry about hiding Ashley in a garbage can every 10 feet.

Just keep in mind this is what they are thinking about for 2022. This isn't going to be fixed anytime soon. As a killer I either 4K with 3+ gens left 90+% of the time or i get a 3 to 4 man red rank 1 swf and struggle for the 2K in a really salty, sweaty match where I am told to go die and my kids hate me and since im old and will die soon ( they looked at my steam profile ) they will piss on my grave.

A question that keeps popping up in my mind is why the hell do i play this game? The matches are either a complete land slide or I am told to die. This is as killer, when I play survivor I have the experience you have. It's really painful.

I'm seeing this a lot lately, immediately followed by those same toxic people who are trashing you flocking to the forum to tell us "Then just quit! *insert extra degrading/trolling BS here*" It's hard to quit playing something that you've put a lot of time into and care about having fun in, that's why. But they don't care when you respond that way.

I've asked myself the same question and I've played noticeably less. It just sucks bc I had been in the process of getting ready to start streaming and I finally got it going, so I'm like, "welp, might as well hope for the best."

A friend trying to get his affiliate status on Twitch is one of the few things that keep me and my husband playing too. We usually get burnt out really quick and I keep looking at him and saying out loud what drpynz said, "Why are we still playing this?" The above issues paired with the insane grind of the rift/bloodweb just constantly remind me that the time I put it isn't worth the return.

One of the few positive reasons I had stuck around for is things like seeing the Silent Hill license get picked up and bringing the series to a new generation in hopes that maybe we'll see new Silent Hill games (or other horror properties that have been left behind by time). But even that's not much motivation anymore...

  • Thank you so much for the prompt reply! I look forward to seeing the winners (even if I didn't have any luck this year, lol). I really hope all the contest entries will be viewable somewhere. I always love seeing the great work that the community does.

  • Problems are continuing for me today as well. Managed 2 sessions as Legion, now I tried to load in as the Doctor and 2/2 I'm in infinite loading.

Guys, I give up. I've spent more time trying to load in the last 3 days than I have actually playing. You have to hire a bigger debug team. This whole thing of relying on the community to test everything and run bug reports like we're free labor is ridiculous.

    I'm done. I'm out.

None of which has been substantiated with any evidence.

All there is here is two OPs claiming something happened that they blame on hackers, and randoms piping in with anectodal unrelated examples and pure speculation.

    That was me. Thanks?

Point I was trying to make was regardless of malicious code or poorly optimized code, either way a console can have a failsafe overridden like I did. It was not the same example, but a similar one that can lead to the same outcome, which is severe overheating resulting in permanent damage.

But what do I know. It's not like I was a contractor for 6 years testing and refurbishing consoles...

  • Hey, you probably saw me post in one of those threads. I didn't have mine bricked, but I did have a surge occur that blew my circuit breaker. A surge like that that overrides a failsafe in the console can definitely do permanent hardware damage (I was contracted directly to one of the 3 console makers for 6 years as a system refurbisher, not stating which one due to NDAs, so please understand).

But I would not worry too much, as even when this happened to me in 2018, only one other person mentioned the same instance. So we're most likely talking 2 cases amongst several hundred thousand players. I can't speak for the other people making claims, but I can let you know there was a tell-tale sign for me that the console is going to overheat, and that's that the fan will start to get incredibly loud, far above the norm. You would probably have to do a hard shut off with the power switch to stop this, but then you risk corrupting your system data (though again, typically you can do a quick system rebuild and be on your way, like if you had an unexpected power outage from a storm).

I hope this puts you at ease a little bit, but if you do experience any unusual operation with your system, make sure to reach out to support both through Sony and Behaviour so you can document your issue. But again, this seems to be incredibly rare.

  • Yes, like I said, unstable patch on Behavior's end seemed to be the cause. The other person who experienced the failure had it happen within a day of mine, right after said patch. Same scenario where their fan kept getting louder and louder, and fail-safe didn't trip. I'm pretty out of my depth when it comes to the finer details, just wanted you to know there is precedence that games can cause these failures and that DBD has done so specifically in the past.

No disrespect is intended there, and none is issued.

What AT ALL is disrespectful in it?

Ive suffered from mental illness myself, as well as just generally being psychologically/emotionally vulnerable during difficult times in my life, and I also have completed some studies in psychiatric care.

Kindly do not try to twist my sincerity and well intended advise into something utterly its contrary like you are accusing above.

That is truly offensive and perverse that you would try to do so.

Hi, I am diagnosed with GAD and Major Depression. These are exactly the tools my therapist would suggest for dealing with this behavior. It is not at all disrespectful, these are basic tools of self-care. When a person with mental illness is in crisis mode, which can be triggered by the interactions mentioned in this thread, you kinda have to triage yourself before you can get back to trying to help solve a problem (dealing with in-game harassment). It doesn't mean the person thinks that this should be the permanent solution to what's going on, but rather putting one's self first.

Sadly, Rhoska's recommendation did become my permanent solution because both Behaviour and gaming platforms have failed to hold players accountable for their actions in meaningful ways.

  • Malicious or broken code can definitely damage your system. Myself and one other forum member a couple years ago were playing after an unstable update. The code caused a malfunction in my system that bypassed the overheat safety shutdown, causing the fan to whir louder and louder and a huge power surge to occur that knocked out power to the entire circuit of my house. These types of malfunctions can lead to fires, bricking, or other serious damage to your wiring (and even though I filed a ticket, Behavior failed to address the issue or acknowledge how dangerous what happened was).

While DBD never made the news cycle for this, Anthem did because it was much more wide spread and bricked a significant number of systems. Therefore it's no surprise to me that this could happen. Make sure to file a ticket with Behavior, be detailed in what occurred, and please feel free to use me as a reference if you feel it would help your case. Good luck and I hope they are responsive to this issue.

  • To be honest, I am disappointed. This is mostly because the devs decided to remove other annual content and essentially gave us nothing new or excited. They have been overpromising more and more, and that's frustrating. Here's a breakdown more specifically of what's particular to this event that I do not like.

    1. The new set pieces are very lackluster. The smashable pumpkins are not a particularly good looking asset and don't really pop in the environment. The tangled generators are even worse. If the vines were pulsing with pustula serum or rotting or had some sort of nice particle effects, I would like them. But a small candle, brown vines, and very small bland pumpkins do little to stand out. Having only 1 guaranteed a match means most of the map has no special feel at all.
    2. Stingy offerings. Both the system by which to earn the points, which was already criticized in the past, was brought back, and rarity of the special offering is disappointing. This also adds to the former point of not adding to the map if players simply don't have the offering. Pumpkin spawns also seem tied to this, so that if many offerings aren't played, there are next to no pumpkins to kick. It seems once people realized this that they may also be holding back the offering in hopes of a hotfix to make it better before the event ends, as the number of seeds being played dropped significantly for me today (may also be due to all the crashing/infinite load screens).
    3. Disappointing skins. While I love Mikaela's Tome skin, that's about it so far. The blighted skins were amazing additions when they came out, and still some of my favorite skins. They tied into the lore and theme of that year's Halloween event and the subsequent ones released were fun too. However, we can't even earn all of the new skins at the outset, and this time-gating during such a short even makes absolutely NO sense. I also would honestly have preferred if all Halloween related items were on this tome as well, as I don't pay for the pass unless I've made good progress (which occurs loooong after Halloween has come and gone).

I'll try not to be a total negative Nancy and throw out some things I would like to see, (though I will totally be a Nancy and say I don't expect these things to happen...).

    1. Skins tightly knit to lore or a core theme like Hallowed Blight.
    2. All gens and hooks decorated with the theme they have chosen.
    3. Full set-dressing for the maps. A change in lighting, screen filters, the moon or sky, anything that brings a cohesive and interesting look to the map. Decorate with new assets that match the theme. For one good example, check out Overwatch's Halloween maps Hollywood and Eichenwald.
    4. Find ways to add alternative objectives to the maps that don't detract from normal gameplay too much (or separate lobbies into Halloween unranked matches vs. standard rank matches. Choose when queuing).

  • Platform: PS4 (launch edition)

    Crossplay: On

    Queue Type: Solo

    Survivor: Mikaela

    Load Screen: Initiating Match

Tome Selected: Halloween Tome, various challenges.

I have only been playing Mikaela today and several attempts to play have resulted in super long load times. I cannot say they are infinite, because at least 1 player will finally hard quit the match to get out of it after 1-5 minutes. I have had my tome challenges unselect themselves after these incidences at least twice, including ones I had already run for multiply matches. I did, however, make it into several matches last night that had much longer than normal load-in times, but somehow managed to finally go through. Several times during these instances, there appeared to be server-side issues regard severe lag, hit detection, and extreme rubber banding (EG: survivor was pulled off of a gen, was shown with a red, downed aura, but continued to work on the gen for about 30 sec before suddenly being place on a hook halfway across the map).

The loading issue is trending towards more problematic today, as I am seeing more long load screens per matches played.
