Go watch Zubat if you're after a perfect DS game.
And the rest just doesn't make sense. I have genuine trouble seeing the point you are trying to make. Do you think that it's fair to not have your skill taken into account because your skill isn't taken into account in another scenario? How's that fair? Or your counterplay idea - that would make sense if you weren't extending your life for only a small handful of seconds. That's not really counterplay in any meaningful sense.
I think it's a case by case basis with each killer, as it should be. Not Evey killer should be defeated by looping. That's boring.
As for what you don't understand, I don't know which part you're referring to. It's probably the most concise post I've made on here today.
My point is, having a killer who is strong in the chase is absolutely fine, I don't see why chase mechanics HAVE to inherently favor the survivor, especially when the killer is balanced with less mobility. He has no map pressure, and he can only go for one survivor at a time. Is it a bad thing that the one thing he is supposed to excel at, he does well?
As for the chase, you only ever extend your chase for a handful of seconds if the killer you're up against is good, how many times do you just have a red rank killer drop chase on you without being at a strong tile? Most will get you sooner rather than later.
You are simply looking at what you don't like about the killer, not how it works in the grand scheme of the game. Your like or dislike is personal, but like I and others have said, we don't have that same issue with facing him, I have fun trying to avoid shots against him. And to say there is nothing you can do in chase with DS is straight up BS, IMHO.

Nice ad hominem buddy, I really respect your opinion (/s in case it isn't obvious).
I don't find him particularly difficult to play against, but he just really is boring to play against. All he has to do it bring the gun up and put it down and the survivor takes a less efficient route by trying to make him miss. Never actually using his power allows him to slow you down, which plays counter to all of the other 110% killers pretty much having to use their power to catch you.
So he evens out to a regular 114 killer then? BFD.
You call him boring all you want (I'm sure you came up with that one all by yourself as well) but for most killers, having to run and mind game certain loops isn't fun, having to play against flashlight DS+UB+That damn penance perk isn't fun at all, alot of what killer is forced to play is very unfun, especially at high ranks, but if you want to win you deal with it.
So now that killers exist that put survivors in the same uncomfortable position most map offerings, perk combos, and loops do, it's a problem?
You just sneak crying, you know you have a problem against him. You want to be able to play him at loops like most other killers, but you know what's boring? Dealing with every killer in the exact we way. Most survivor mains got way to comfortable with just doing the basic hold m1 then run to loop. If you aren't willing to adapt as killers have so often had to, good riddance.

That Slinger counterplay isn't counterplay. That's exactly what he wants you to do. 110 killers aren't as slow as everyone assumes, and he's always moving at 110 speed because quickscoping. Sure, drop that pallet - I'll just zone you, break it and shoot you because Slinger isn't a 110 m1 killer and you literally cannot react to him unless he's playing like a moron and going for long shots. Literally the most basic play there is with him.
And "unpredictable" moves are still not counterplay, it's just the only way of making his shot harder that you have. Like it or not, even if you aren't wasting time zoning yourself, it's entirely on him to miss, not you to dodge it.
Same goes for that PH "counterplay" - that's just called faking, it's a normal part of gameplay, and the reason PH is so strong is because only an absolute moron would use his ability before you vault. His entire strength relies on just picking his sword up and hitting you. You literally cannot avoid that. Fake the vault or take it, he's hitting you regardless.
I'm sorry to say, this is all theory craft and imagination. Even if the best you can do against DS in a chase is try to force bad plays, that's not any different at a base level than any other killer.
You're talking about this from the killer side, but how many DS have you beat as survivor?
And the fact you play on console like me causes serious doubt that you are hitting anywhere near 90% of your shots, let alone 100.
Until I actually see a perfect DS game, I'm going to assume it's nigh impossible, and if most killers rely on survivor mistakes to work, I don't see why a killer that relies on survivor mistakes is so unfair.

There’s also this pervasive poisonous attitude that survivors believe the chase odds shouldn’t be so heavily stacked in the killers favour. They forget it’s 1v4.
How is the killer meant to be perceived as a threat if a survivor always has a fair chance of escaping?
Right, they actually want to be able to beat killers 1v1 in chase consistently like that's how the game is supposed to work.

Okay, I'm honestly tired of seeing this phrase when people talk about anything. It comes up a lot as an argument against Spirit or Deathslinger.
Look at the end of the day every killer and tactic has counter play. There were legit like 5 things in this game ever to not have counter play. Old Legion was one of them. Infinite loops (as in double window at cow tree with no bloodlust and no entity blocker) had no counter play. Heck even in the current game, yes, some stuff has little to no counter play. Ebony Mori. Keys.
But dear Jebus, every time someone tried to argue for a change to a killer they always bring up "no counter play". "Bro there is nothing you can do, you just lose, just D/C already". That's basically what I hear.
Spirit has counter play. Deathslinger has counter play. Now I don't like Deathslinger either, I think it's just a lame experience to get speared with no real way to fight back after that point. But that doesn't mean there is 0 counter play. Even as someone that hates Slinger I can acknowledge that there are ways to avoid getting shot. Tall wall loops work good. Dropping the pallet early generally helps. Janky movement can make it harder for the killer.
Oh yea, and hiding works. It works against Spirit too. "Hiding isn't counter play". Uh yes, it actually is. A 110 killer doesn't have the time to thoroughly search an area. If you never get found you never get caught. I've won games against many killers (Slingers and Spirits included) by just hiding. Yea, it's not exactly an exciting experience. It's boring, ESPECIALLY for killers (I've had people hide on me and it sucks), and it's a bit of a cheesey tactic but it's still a legit tactic at the end of the day. Hide near a gen, keep tapping it, force the 110 killer to search everywhere for you and give up pressure on the rest of the map. If everyone is doing this they will have to commit at some point because this is a battle of attrition and they will lose.
And I get people don't like these killers, again I hate Slinger. But come up with some original arguments and stop parroting a buzzword you heard. It's getting ridiculous.
Also, to reference a dead meme with another dead meme,

Dude, that's a straight nerf, not a "Tweak". Point blank if you can't avoid DS, you really aren't as good at survivor as you think. Juking doesn't mean you were shot at and you dodged, it means you faked a move and forced a bad shot from DS.

Because the devs aren't consistent. Take Trail Of Torment for example, the perk that gives you the undetectable status after kicking a generator. Seems decent but it turns out it has a cooldown and also reveals the generator you kicked to the survivors. Now compare that to Tinkerer which gives you Undetectable when a generator is at 70% progression. That perk has no cooldown and gives no warning at all to the survivors.
I mean, Trail of Torment has absolutely gotten me more stealth plays than Tinkerer, like it's not even close. Survivors can't be paying attention to a yellow gen, your possible approach, and skill checks.at the same time, you know?

honestly I think they need to buff surge with 2 of these or all of them
Make it apply by downing a survivor in any way
Make it not have a cooldown or have something like the longer its been since the last surge the stronger it is, example 8% on the first one but if the second one is 20 seconds later its 4%
Increase range to infinite but affects X amount of closest generators to increase reliability
I actually like the idea of the longer it's been, the more potential regress .. Like the idea sounds extremely fun and could actually be a good clutch perk.
But I think making that work, or basically making a perk that isn't a token or cooldown might be just too much creativity for these devs. They made a killer that runs into walls to get a speed boost, mind you

The only Streamer whose videos are constantly used on this forum as "evidence" is not good. What are you talking about?
And well, playing Killer just got easier and easier...
And:
"The problem is, BHVR won't balance the game around the potential that good survivors have, because most survivors simply are very bad. "
If the Survivors are very bad, why do Killers struggle that much? Because they are not as good as they think they are?
Imagine thinking a 7000 + full time streamer who plays this game professionally is bad.
Well if an "average" killer main who plays professionally has a lot of problems with killer side, imagine a man who actually has a family and a life OUTSIDE of DBD, or someone who wants to take a break from being a top tier killer.
And as far as the bad survivor thing goes, you can't actually measure the skill between a whole team and a single person. Both sides have different goals, one side chases while the other is chased, and there isn't really much of a tug o war system here, as much as it should be anyway. You could have more blood points than 3/4ths of survivor side and de-pip, while you can die and pip as survivor, there is no consistency between the two so that's a fallacy.
I don't understand what's so difficult for you guys to grasp. Even Scott Jund Begrudgingly admitted SWF teams can be overpowering, even if he sanctioned that with a BS unknowable of killers not facing Tourney SWF nearly as much as they think (said something stupid like only 1% of SWF play like that, well where is that magic BS logic in regards to the number of frame perfect killers?)

So yes its add ons, I am currently working atm so not gonna dissect this but this may affect your feelings towards him but the general opinion seems to be he is in a more balanced spot, the overheat mechanism doesn’t do anything (which is flawed yes) but it does help a bit against face camping billys. The add ons tho imo are fun and unique now, before his add on pass you would just run insta saw/cooldown. Also saying they temporarily ruined engraving add ons prove nothing since ya know they are fixed now. Billy was not nerfed to the ground that is far from true.
Psssh, insta saw was the reason most hillbillies even played him, silent billy is not good against SWF and that's why you rarely see him anymore.
When most people play killer, they like to come out with the best. Tbh Billy is still good, but he's B-toer at best

I've seen lots of colorful original story theories for sagging pants, but It seems like the origin is still debated. It's clear that it became pretty mainstream fashion, though.
At any rate, that was just an example of a similar sort of style trend. If someone is asking to be sexualized because their thong is visible above their pants then I guess I must have missed the memo.
No, they are debated by folks like you who don't know better and think all information is found on the internet.
That's part of my culture, I know the origin and when it started to become the fashion, why it was a fashion, and what it was supposed to represent. Of course by the mid 2000's little Billy was copying the trends at the time, but most trends start from the street and end up mainstream.
But back to the point, you're trying to make me look shallow or sexist based on the fact that displaying underwear is inherently sexual. Well, if I'm sexist I guess BHVR is too because they deemed it inappropriate and removed it, and there was a huge uproar about it winning the contest in the first place so I've heard.
Now me, I don't care one way or the other really, if they wanted to have the thing in I actually support that as I don't see that being an issue in the first place, but to act naive to sexuality and the role it plays in our lives? Did we PC ourselves back to the Victorian era? You acting like a real southern Belle right now.

The post is certainly sexualizing her, but I don't see why having your thong showing above your pants is being taken that way. Isn't that just a style? It feels to me like how guys would wear loose pants with no belts a few years back to the point where their boxers were on full display. I don't think that was done to be sexy or anything; I think it was just a style.
I could explain the history of that too you, but I'll say this, if you were wearing that style of clothes, it wasn't just some innocent reflection of how cool you are (at least not initially).
In other words, if you wear a thing like that, it's a statement just like the baggie pants were a statement.

Most women wear thongs to conceal their panty lines in tight clothes. Saying female nature is inextricably tied to sexuality is what's wrong with the world. It's the reason women can't even wear a tank top when they are hot without getting harassed by men. It's the reason women lose court cases against rapists because they "shouldn't have been wearing that outfit." Linking women to sexuality is exactly why women have to put up with so much harassment, even if the woman isn't even trying to get attention.
Your comment is extremely sexist.
I have no problem with women wearing what they want, sexy or conservative.
I have a problem with comments like yours showing exactly why women are harassed because of this innate thinking that all women are sexual beings.
Bruh, Imma need citation on that "she had it coming because she was wearing this" statement. I never heard that in a context that wasn't making fun of the idea that men are so stupid they think that's an argument you can use in court, at least in a modern context.
As far as harrasment goes, yes some people harass women sexually and that is a consequence of being attractive, but that harrasment isn't isolated to the sexual. You could be wealthy or famous and be harrased, it has more to do with the nature of having something others want or covet.
That alone shows that sexuality, and the ability to tap into sexuality as a tool in society, is powerful and invaluable, and amongst many talents and abilities that most woman may posses, just like physical strength is a symptom of Male physiology, inevitably tying the idea of physical size, shape, and power to male nature, the ability to attract, facilitate, and nurture are in the same way tied to female nature. Are all females sexual? No, and neither are all males physically strong, but those ARE the exceptions to nature rather than the rule, and they don't speak any less of those who fall into the natural trend, or vice versa
There is absolutely nothing wrong with saying that sexuality is inextricably tied to womanhood. It would be wrong to say specifically, that woman are to be sexualized at every opportunity and that they deserve to be harrased, but I'm not looking at the negative connotations of feminine sexuality like you are. I could easily say the same thing about men, that because they are considered to naturally be physically stronger that it's the reason they have harder physical and mental work loads placed on them, that they are the driving force cattle of society and that men aren't treated fairly in cases of ######### allegations, and these contribute to the higher suicide rates in men.
But then what does that say? That I think men as a general rule SHOULDN'T bare a certain load of responsibility because they are in general physically stronger? And in turn, should I look at all women as sexless human beings who should only be approached for mutual business arrangements?
Sorry, but that's not how nature works. Nature isn't concerned with gender politics, it is concern-less.

This is my thought, too. Nothing about Claudette's lore leads me to think she'd even wear a thong, much less have it showing out of her pants.
Psssh, what type of woman do you be around that DON'T and least have one thong? That is puritanical as hell, and hypocritical with a half naked man being in the game. It's frowned upon to sexualize women.... Even though part of female nature is tied inextricably to sexuality.

I just want to find everyone of a very simple concept while we're on this topic, because there are those that seem to go with the sentiment "This is a PC game first, you should be happy you got anything at all"
No booboo, that's not how it works. They put themselves in a market they had no business getting into if they cannot figure out how console optimization works. We as the customer have a right to a working service, and as DBD is a games as a service model especially, they are copeable for the experience of their product, especially when considering haphazard decisions such as implementing cross play when optimization should have held easy priority over that.
Not only this, but you must remember, people have given hours of their lives away just to earn the money to buy this game and all it's DLC, which over time has outpriced the original game.
That's money that could have been saved for a rainy day, could have went towards bills, hell, could have been used towards charity, ANYTHING ELSE, but we chose as customers to pay for your product and the best solution most can come up with is "Buy it again" "get a PC" as of the answer is to throw more money at a game we've already spent plenty on... And let's be quite honest and clear, this game is Janky AF. It is not so technically demanding as to be impossible to properly implement on console, it's simply that BHVR don't know what they're doing a here and had no interest in investing money to trully get it working by bringing in someone who could have optimized long ago, they preferred to keep A steady stream of cash flowing with DLC and take more money.
And some will likely say we knew what we were getting into by buying a port game.. Which if this were the 90's I'd almost agree with. But this is 2020, and console's aren't some far off relative of PC anymore, that gap is starting to close and has been for almost 2 gens now.
Regardless of that fact, we paid. We paid money, and invested time, and I think that deserves a little more than "we're looking into it". I think this may be erring on the side of legal recourse, but I'm no lawyer.

This perks affect is already useless in most secnarios, having a cooldown just makes it stupid pointless and a waste of a slot.
Hmmmm, would I rather bring ruin, corrupt, pop, BBQ, whispers, sloppy, Thana, Devour, Torment, STBFL, PWYF, etc. Etc. OR a perk that allows me to block pallets in an area the survivor will no longer be in once I trigger the condition for activation? Oh wait, it's also a hex with a cooldown..

no matter what it is still 4 survivors to 1 killer. No amount of crossplay will change the ratio.
SWF is also not helping killer numbers either. Just the hard truth
Man that frame rate ######### is real. Survivors blink in and out and the resolution just sucks most the time. When one or two slip ups can and will cost you the game, PC survivors definitely will have an advantage over everyone simply because the choppiness will cost you hits.

You get much smoother gameplay on the survivors end, making mindgames easier to read, hatchets easier to dodge, etc. While it's not directly correlated to killer, it still is an advantage.
Lets say a killer is turning a corner at a loop with low frames he'll be seen almost lag around it like a passive phasing spirit. As well your movement on low frames feels very clunky as well.
This actually doesn't happen that often on survivor, but if anyone has played on hawkins with low FPS, they'll know exactly what I mean.
Plus, it just feels a bit trash knowing the survivors are on a smooth 60 FPS, while you're on 10.
Absolutely agree as I played both very recently and there is a very clear difference in the feel. You almost feel sluggish as killer going back to ps4

There is only one major change NoED needs and that's just instantly revealing exposed.
DS is also fine, but that's also a com.hnity issue, rather than a design one.
At least you've been civil about this. Thank you.
I actually really like that idea. In fact, I actually agree for that specific perk, that would be a very fair change that brings solo up to SWF.
At the same time, it's addressing the issue without the need to add something like a totem counter, which would probably be very clunky to implement anyway.
And no problem! It's all good, the game is what it is and sometimes bi think we forget there's really no point in getting upset over eachother's views. They more than likely won't have an effect on the game one way or another anyway, so I got to remind myself there's no point in trying to challenge every opinion all the time, it's a drain. Well, the thing is that this isn't an anti-NoED thread as I have said my piece about that perk multiple times elsewhere.
I'm just so sick to death of hearing "just do bones" as a method of dealing with this garbage perk and would like people to come up with a new reason or line about it staying the way it is. I normally do totems anyway for BP.
That and 99/100 games it's in I am the one to get hit by it, even though I am literally the only one doing totems in order to prevent it and gain some blood points in the process.
Aww, I get you. But yea, more than likely they won't stop saying it and itsy pretty much all you can do against it currently. If they modified NoeD someway, I probably wouldn't care because I really don't hate NoED as much as I hate DS, but I definitely understand why you and others do so I get it.
Personally, I think there's other important balances to make to bring Solo up to SWF level of gameplay experience. If they could figure out a way to make that happen, this game could even have true competitive potential. I think all their focus should be on things like totem counters and more inherent information without perks..

I don't actually understand, why does this thread exist if it isn't an Anti NoeD thread?
And honestly, don't do totem's, at least not at first. Leave the obvious totem's that are easy to get to. It's like you say in the very same post, most killers have insta-downs anyway, so really what difference does it make if that one down is made with a chainsaw or an M1? Might as well save your time in solos and go for points instead of totem's, because you already know you can't rely on coordination.

Oh God I'm so scared, is this going to be very scary?
Also, I don't know if you remember this, but I said something about possibly applying for a role in the film, and you made a pretty firm commitment to place me in the movie in some way, but I never got a call from you or even gave you my number, so I'm not upset or anything,
But like I said before, if you need a professionally trained actor for your next movie, I'd be willing to negotiate a fair contract with you, and I'm flexible on amenities so don't worry about that! I'm not flexible on accomodations, however. Very firm.
We can talk about how much you can pay me now to I'd you want.

Spirit and freddy are overpowered
Agree to disagree, I just think forever Freddy is tedious, but he's no where near as bad as old FF, or even old 3 gen doc.
Spirit just had to be played differently, but I agree she's oppressive.. If she got some rework I wouldn't be surprised, but if she doesn't I wouldn't care much either because imo she's alright as she is, and there isn't much you can do to her other than completely rework her like they need to do with legion. I would have some ideas for changing her, but I'm sure it's harder than it seems to balance

I was waiting for the "whose next" thread on the survivors hit list. Will you guys not be satisfied until all killers are brain dead bots?
As for the topic at hand. If I had to guess it's probably going to be spirit, huntress or Freddy.
I agree in theory..... But tbh, Billy pretty much got buffed. That add on that lets you cut through pallets AND gives you back insta-down back after 5 seconds? I'll take that over insta saw any day, it's GD hilarious.
That said, at this point I think nerfs should stop for a bit. People hate spirit, but other than her I don't think anyone desperately needs or desires change.

Do forgive me if I'm wrong but If I can get to here
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/HSSFCAR3XWZV/image.png
In less than 3 days playing two so-called "Weak" killers (Wraith and Pyramid Head)

Without using the perk once then forgive me for calling it a crutch perk people rely on.
If I can do it, so can you.
I critique both sides just as much. Curb your bias.
Curb your projection, I never said I needed or even used the perk. But I don't cry when people use tactics or perks in the game.
I don't tell survivors they're scrubs for using my DS + Unbreakable and I'm not moved by the new name "smoll pp" aka another tactic for shaming players for playing the game.
I don't cry if NoED exists or a killer has it and I've never shamed a killer for using it. If anything is "Smoll pp" again it is the idea that you, I or anyone else get to tell others the right way to play the game.
Also that point you're trying to make? Not a good point. People make it to rank 1 without any perks at all, so you're implication is that it's feasible to play the game at red ranks with no perks or add ons consistently, using wraith or PH (which I don't know WHO told you PH is a weak killer, but ok) I think pretty much everyone would disagree with you there.

Which is exactly why I stated rely on not use. If you rely on the perk to get kills you're not good. If you use it but get a 3k and close hatch for it to proc then you're a good killer or the survivors were ######### or both. It's as simple as that.
That's just flat out stupid. "Oh, if you use this perk in a situation that basically it's unnecessary in or gets you the least amount of value, you're a good player"
Just saying, if it's not perk shaming it's tactic shaming, you really have a laundry list of opinions on how killers can play, but whenever survivor play is brought up, there's always an excuse or reason..
I don't understand why people have to tell others how to play, then have the nerve to call others smoll pp

Should we really be surprised? I've been saying forever how horrendous the PS4 killer experience is compared to PC, how the loss of frames during any action + hitting a survivor on one side of a pallet = survivor on opposite side of pallet (or behind you) and small things make the killer PS4 experience hell...
Also SWF is and has been a real issue from the beginning on PS4, and the dev team must address this in some way...

Crossplay is coming. As is the new MMR system. Though, I don't think it'll matter in a few months after.
Why do you say this? Predict the game dying or something?

As a survivor I've had great spirits and nurses and potatoe spirit and nurses. It doesnt define how good the killer is by what they use. Anybody can get a 4k infantry belt/iri head with huntress. Huntress is one of the worst killers. So this leads me to believe that my dog can pick up the controller and get a 4k.
Ok, I never even mentioned add ons, if you're constantly using the best ones then you're likely to get great results, yes. That's like saying a coordinated stacked SWF with BNPs aren't expected to "win" alot of matches. I also don't know who said Huntress was one of the worst killers, that's news to me.
But hey, if that's what you actually believe I'm obviously not going to change your mind, but you aren't the only person out there that plays killer.
People stopped replying to this thread for a reason. Think I'll do the same.

First of all, I don't mean anything here to be disrespectful, so pleas please understand that. I main Trapper, who is one of the slowest killers to get going. He has to spend the early game setting up the map. You don't want to commit to long chases too early or you are done. I understand how fast those first few gens can go.
That said, "gen rush" claims annoy the hell out of me. What are survivors supposed to do? Hide in a locker for the first 45 seconds, the run from th locker to killer shack and back before starting a gen? They have only one objective that counts, do the gens asap. The longer a match goes, the more their chances of survival fade.
Getting upset at survivors hitting gens is as absurd as survivors getting upset at a killer for getting a hook within the first minute. We have one objective, kill the survivors.
My thoughts are that you either ran into a group who completely outclassed your skill level;happens to everyone. You perhaps made too many mistakes early? Did you commit to a long chase early in the game that cost you more time than it was worth? Be willing to break off a chase if it looks like it will take too long. Wound and move on.
Dud you tunnel or spend too much time proxy camping? A lot of killers rank up vs bad survivors in green and purple ranks only to learn that lazy strategy does not cut it so well at the higher ranks. They either whine, or learn to adjust their skills and grow.
Not enough data to know what it was. I'd suggest taking a step back and try to asses any errors you are making and correct them. That is how you get better.
Good luck.
Trapper isn't a chase killer, he doesn't work like GF

I personally believe the broken record of "killer is so hard" "nerf swf" "4k is the only way to win" has just become what people feel they have to say. As many hours as I have in this game i know from experience as a killer and survivor player, that solo survivor is harder than getting 2 or 3k as a killer.
A 2k isn't a win, and I know for a fact it's easier for ME to pip as survivor, whether or not I survive, than it is for me to pip as a killer. It's the same echo chamber as survivors saying Hillbilly, Freddy, nurse, Deathslinger and Spirit need a nerf.
You must remember the review bombing this game received on steam because survivors wanted Freddy nerfed? Don't remember killers doing that over anything, but people get upset that killer side has valid issues that need addressing for some reason and that's where the impasse lies.

Iean I've played on PS4 since launch too.. it varies incredibly the type of response you'll get, and I believe region also has an influence, but in all honesty, I think this guys not being honest, and it doesn't matter what you say to them about it..
As killer mains who've been playing for several years, we know better than to take this serious, right? Even the best players in the world say the game isn't easy for killer at high ranks, some may disagree about solo survivor being harder (which I disagree with) but hardly anyone sits here and says killer is easy if they are actually a killer main.
So if one person wants to believe that, inspire of years of evidence to the contrary, than allow them to and move on.

Hello MeridianSky_ :)
We're currently working on some changes for the auras, we do not have any ETA yet but as soon as it is ready we'll let you know.
Thanks!
So not only was the change intentional, but it was released in an unfinished state and you won't be going back in the meantime while you fix the change? Is it because you have to keep them? Couldn't they be stripped back like the DC penalty until it's ready?
