No razors or showers in the Entity’s realm, don’t judge.

Cool, so now I can no longer communicate with my random teamamtes while staying in cover. Nerf solo-survivor and increase the gap between solo-SWF even more.
Great addition Behaviour, you really outdid yourself in that patch.
Oh wait, I think I misunderstood your comment.
You can still point while crouching.
However, there was a weird bug that they introduced a little while back where you could crouch up and down while pointing, which looked hilarious. They removed it and I don’t know why because it was funny and harmless.

Taunting the killer with emotes/tbag is toxic
I never taunted the killer with it. In fact if you re-read the original post you’ll notice that I mention teabagging team mates, not the killer.

The MMR does work, but the communication has been astoundingly bad on it.
There was no precalibration done for many people, or if there was, it didn't work. I'm back to playing against who I normally played against on Nurse, but it took about 6-7 games of me stomping baby survivors to get there.
I don't understand how you put out a QA saying "we have built in protections for new players" on the same day that the forums and twitter are littered with screenshots of rank 1s playing fresh rank 20s with 1 perk. That's hilariously tone deaf. Are you memeing? Again, stop saying you precalibrated MMR. You didn't. Unless you did but it was only for some people, in which case, say that.
But more importantly, there needs to be some common sense built into MMR. Do we need to see a college basketball player 1v1 a middle schooler to see who's better? Why are we matching 2-3k hr vets against <300 hr accounts in the first place?
Totally agreed. If someone is playing their third match ever their MMR should start low, at the bottom. The learning curve for this game is BRUTAL. Someone who just bought the game has no idea what they’re doing. Maps, perks, offerings, items and add ons, status effects, killer powers, stats, all of this stuff is totally unknown to a new player and absolutely crucial for a vet. How on earth will a newbie know to slug against DS, or what “exposed” means, or how to dodge a chainsaw?
The fact that the devs didn’t account for this at all is completely baffling to me.
-
Yeah, I keep getting this stuff too. I’ve just stopped using items/add ons and strong perks and make sure to be kind in post-game chat. The nice thing about this MMR chaos is that I’ve seen a ton of really sweet people encouraging and helping each other, which makes me remember how great this game community can actually be 💕

use this thread to help make a complete list of currently useless addons for survivors and killers i will list as many as i can but i am missing some killers so mine will have holes. help me fill them in please.
Survivors:
FLASHLIGHTS: leather and rubber grip addons
TOOLBOXES: grip wrench, protective gloves, spring clamp and instructions
KEYS: blood amber.
On a side note many of these addons are nearly defunct due to the ratios of keys to addons this is problem with maps as well ie. i have 3 maps and 30 map addendums as well as 3 keys and 20 prayer ropes but the upgrades to these appear about the same frequency as keys and maps making it likely that you will never use them.
Killers:
TRAPPER: most addons are fine but some need to be combined or heavily bufed ie. rusted jaws and serrated jaws should be combined, logwood dye and tar bottle should be combined.
honing stone should apply even if they are helped. wax brick shouldnt be outclassed by 2 other addons 1 of them in the same rarity. the setting speed addons should apply to the full animation or have their effect tripled.
WRAITH:
The beast is currently incompatible with winning a game please re think this one
the serpent feels like you would need 3 addons to make it work maybe have it add a cloak speed buff and up its rarity
the "blink" and "swift hunt addons have have values that are far too low
HILLBILLY: i am going to skip because hes still finding his feet
nurse: all are pretty lackluster especially the dollar store versions of her main perks as addons but her base kit is good enough already
HUNTRESS:
The stone addons dont need to be timed and there dont need to be 2 of them 2 exhausted addons is a waste of space as well
pungent fiale and amanita toxin seem to just be there to be filler
THE SHAPE:
vanity mirror: scatched mirror fills the same role better
glass fragment: try to get this to proc i bet you cant do it
the stalking walking speed addons for shape and ghostface dont serve any practical purpose.
THE HAG: i havent played enough to say
DOCTOR: perfect
FREDDY: i havent played enough to say
CLOWN:
movement speed while reloading addons are pointless
why does sulfuric acid vial have a timer?
tattoo's middle finger: why do i need to see the aura of someone who just screamed?
SPIRIT:
juniper bonsai and dried cherry blossom i dont see i diffrence in how survivors asct when i use these if you know how to get any value out of these please comment below
PLAGUE:
nearly all of the numbers involved are pretty lackluster except the effectiveness ones
GHOSTFACE:
as stated above on the shape stalking movement speed
crouch movement speed: besides tea bagging what are you using these for?
duration of marked: why you would need more than base kit is beyond me
if i have not mentioned a killer here it is because i do not own them please fill in the gaps if you can
Most of Plague’s add ons are fine in my opinion. The amulets are a bit rubbish and I can’t think of any situation where you’d want to run Iridescent Seal, but otherwise they all have a use. Hag’s add ons are also pretty good, a couple of meme ones but for the most part they’re strong enough and helpful.
On survivor the gloves and sponge for med kits are basically useless. Increasing great skill check progress is a waste of an add on slot. You’re basically always gonna want more charges or more speed, since they’re consistent and skill checks are so dependent on RNG. I wish I could swap every pair of gloves and sponge I have for the brown bandages.

I love the streamers with a “I’m so wholesome and goofy, tee hee!” image but they’re toxic as hell in post game chat. There’s one guy in particular that I’ve run into a few times and he always talks ######### but doesn’t show it on his stream, of course.

When I search for a lobby I get a lobby in the first 20 sec BUUUUT the ping is horrible! Usualy I play on green ping server with 35ms, never more then that but with Oni I only get matches with atleast 180ms ping or even 280ms ping! ######### BHVR?! Am I stuck now on the chars I played until now? I am not going to play with that ping! Survivors would hate me if I play on that server, as someone who also plays surv i hate high ping killers!
I don’t think it’s the killer you’re choosing. I’ve suddenly in the last half an hour started only getting lobbies of 100 ping (I usually get about 35 as well).

I could care less about invisible traps, how about we not report it and let the devs work on more important things or the next hotfix is gonna have patched traps but then they'll be like we didnt have time to fix sh1t that matters like auras or flashlights or MMR. Long list of bugs atm and traps not important.
Invisible traps are not intended and are therefore also bugs. I don’t have a problem with them personally since I’m a Trapper main lmao, and feel like there are bigger issues to look at first, but they’re not there by design so reporting them is perfectly valid.
-
The devs regularly remove these kinds of traps. If you see one you can always report it in the bug reports sub forum.
-
I always run Kindred, so yes. If three survivors can’t figure out how to coordinate a save with wallhacks handed to them, then I’m not surviving that match anyway.
The exception is if I’m being camped, in which case I’ll make the killer waste as much time camping me as possible.

@Hyzar said:
I couldn't agree more. I literally started playing this game yesterday, I have never played the game before and my first 10 games I was matched with people with rank 1-10. I had no idea what I was doing and I still don't. This doesn't seem fair to the other people I play with, who are also high rank people. I have now played around 20-30 games and I am still being matched with the same rank people. As much as I wish I belong in rank 1 I am getting killed so fast and after all those games I am still rank 19 because I am losing most of them due to knowing nothing about the game.
I have never gone to a forum to complain about any game before but this really blew my mind how terrible this system is.
"This will allow the new Matchmaking System to track player skill with each killer individually and match them against more appropriately skilled opponents based on their killer selection." If that was actually true I would have been matched with killers at least rank 15-20. I don't understand how this has been analyzed over 3 million games and the system is this bad.
This has put me off so much that after 1 day of playing this I have no urge to play it any longer and will probably never touch this again.
I’m sorry. :( This can’t be a fun experience for new players so I don’t blame you for feeling put off.
-
@Orion said:
Play to the best of your ability and see if the trials feel fair. If they do, the MMR is working properly. If not, it's not.
Which games using an MMR do you know that not only show you everyone's MMR, but also explicitly list every last intricate detail of how their copyrighted intellectual property (i.e.: the MMR algorithm) works?
Nobody is asking for every intricate detail of their algorithm, but with most games you have a general idea. E.g. in an FPS if you miss every shot and die without killing anyone your MMR will decrease, if you kill 30 people without dying your MMR will increase. But there’s no real equivalent in DBD because if I get paired with teammates that are new to the game I’m much less likely to escape, and even if I were the best survivor player to ever pick up the game that would be true. So you can’t entirely base it on escapes and kills.
Just a general idea would be nice. Considering that neither the player base or the devs can come to any kind of agreement about what constitutes a win, a little bit of clarity about what matters would help people believe that there actually is an MMR system at all. Right now my first hand experience with this new system leads me to believe that they just switched off matchmaking entirely. None of my matches make any kind of sense, the skill levels are all over the place.
-
@GoodBoyKaru said:

Chases is literally the only skillful thing survivors can do besides just general knowledge of the game and having good game sense. It would be insanely stupid if prolonging and surviving chases did absolutely nothing for your MMR. I do not think BHVR is that insanely stupid.
So it’s an assumption. I guess we’ll see.
-
I haven’t been able to play killer yet because queues are upwards of 15 minutes, I’ve stopped trying.
My queues as survivor are short but I keep getting placed with people who have between 0 and 50 hours in the game and play accordingly. I think I’ve only played one match so far that felt fair.
-
@[Deleted User] said:
If you get into a chase and run a killer around for several minutes, then your MMR is going to go up. Especially if the killer you get is also a very high MMR killer. This is only natural if you are actually good at the game. After all, even before MMR was introduced, there were games where I would pip (despite dying) but everyone else would depip.
If your teammates can't last 10 seconds in a chase, their MMR will probably go down.
Over time, assuming the system is working as intended, the bad survivors will get weeded out and the good survivors will rise up, then eventually as their MMRs get closer and the bad survivors get further apart, they will start matching with each other together on a team.
Will it actually work remains to be seen.
Do you have any evidence that MMR takes length of chases into account, or are you assuming it does?
-
No, there’s no way to avoid playing against the same killer. Unfortunately there are just some killers that are played much less than others, so you’re unlikely to see them often. Because the killers are played by other people it’s just down to their preference and what they choose to play.

A) I played more than 10 games and the matchmaking got no better.

i play solo que and don’t have many problems with it. I run bond so if my team is not so good I know what the outcome is gonna be. I can steer chases away from gens in progress etc. as far as the new MMR system I think it’s gonna improve matchmaking. I only started playing about a year ago and it’s been nonstop complaints about matchmaking and que times. Que’s are awesome now compared to the past.
when matchmaking matches you with appropriate player ranks everyone complained about player skill not matching rank and que time. I think it’s on the right path from a single year of experience pov.
Dude, running Bond can’t help you carry your rank 20 teammates against an experienced killer. Running Bond or Kindred is no replacement for teammates who understand the basic mechanics of the game.

@BloodMoneyMerc said:
Alright, now I'm a red rank solo survivor that has about 1.6K hours in the game. I would like to think I'm decent at survivor, as I usually end up carrying my teams that struggle doing gens or that can't hold chase for that long. I'm not trying to say I'm a god tier survivor, but I think I should at least be ranked as competent & efficient according to the MMR system. Apparently that is not the case though. This new system is matching me with some very questionable survivors. Like I'm getting paired with yellow & brown ranks consistently today. & they aren't playing like high rank survivors, not in the slightest. Even the killers I'm being matched against don't feel that skilled as killer, but they keep winning because I'm getting paired with some very bad teams. It feels like its a 1v4 where I'm up against a killer & 3 lackluster survivor teammares. If the MMR system really ranks me this low, then what the heck is going into determining someone's MMR? Because I think I'm at least good enough at chases & doing objectives & helping teammates enough to not be this low ranked in the new system.
But bro it will take 10 games to even out your MMR. What’s that, you’ve played more than 10 matches and you’re still getting paired with players who have 20 hours in the game? Git gud!

MMR is interesting to say the least. Red ranks are just miserable to play at for both sides I think. Now that MMR is working, you are more likely to get red ranks unless you smurf your survivor group, so every game is a sweaty mess. They really need to come up with a casual option or unranked or something. Then there's the lovely aura issue. :(
OP I'd love to hear what specifically you don't like about solo queue at the moment. Can you elaborate?
And before you say it will all be SWFs . . . you should know that that is messed up at the moment as well with having to add folks to your friend list in steam before you can invite them to a lobby. While that doesn't affect standing groups, it does impact new ones. You spend 15-20 minutes getting people connected and then when you lose a team member, you have to start the process again. Lots of wasted time.
My beef with solo queue at the moment is the new MMR system.
To be honest this post was just a hyperbolic joke, I was frustrated and not being terribly serious. I think the game will probably be fine, it’s just fun to vent.
-
@ruro said:
I believe the 1st dozen games you play will be a bit messy with the new MMR system.
I think the system will match you with players of different levels while auto running it, until it finds a balance of your skill level.
A similar thing happens with the provisional games at the beginning of each season in League of Legends. As you go through this games the system will be will match you according with your results. Of course the Dbd metrics will be kind different. Not just based on victory or defeat.
I just played 2 rainbow games vs low rank killers. After that the skill level of all players in the following matches raised.
Just give it time and play some games. Eventually you will land in the right spot.
I admire your optimism! No sarcasm, I honestly wish I could be more optimistic about this change but my experience has been pretty awful so far.

I think the purpose of the MMR is to determine where you fit on the skill scale, therefore they place you against other players with different ranges of a skill level for the beginning just to get an idea of where you actually belong.
MMR placing you with High Skilled players: this is too difficult for this player.
MMR placing you with Lower Skilled players: this is too easy.
then it evaluates/analyzes your play style and adjusta your ranking. I don’t think the ranks actually matter after all. Everyone knows climbing is easier for Survivors than it is Killers.
Supposedly this MMR system has been gathering data in the background for weeks, and I have thousands of hours in the game so I’m not a baby survivor. In what possible universe would it make sense for me to be MMR matched with someone who has less than one hour play time?
I don’t care about the rank, the fact that they were rank 20 isn’t the problem, it’s the fact that they are clearly brand new to the game. They weren’t lapsed players who had deranked, they were completely in the dark about how the game works and have no perks.
Please make it make sense to me because right now it makes no sense at all. Either the devs are lying about the MMR system having gathered data over the past few months, or they’re lying about there being any MMR at all.
-
I checked the profile of the guy with no perks and he had less than 1 hour in the game.
This isn't a case of "rank doesn't equal skill", it's people who are BRAND NEW to the game being paired with/against people with thousands of hours. It's absolutely awful.
I've put up with some crap in this game but I think this is the last straw for me.
-
Oh man, I’m scared. Matches are either gonna become way more fun or completely frustrating. Guess I’ll have to boot up the game and see :D
-
There’s no point in even arguing with people like this, they’re mad because they lost and they want to blame you for it. You’ll never convince them that you weren’t camping because it makes them feel better to believe you were. Just ignore them.
-
Just as planned. The Entity incites a faction war between killers and survivors to avoid any scrutiny going its way. Wake up, sheeple!

In the op's case, this is the likely explanation.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1505036#Comment_1505036
However, this other case is actually suspicious. If this is still a thing, I wouldn't hold my breath this would get patched soon, though.
Four Iron Wills and Calm Spirits could just be a SWF doing stealth builds. It could be that they somehow knew it was a Doctor, or it could be that they wanted flashlight saves and know CS counters Infectious, which counters altruism.
I mean, I’m not saying it’s impossible. But like @oxygen said, they’ve actually encrypted the log file now, which removes both previous methods of seeing the killer pre-game. Until there’s actual evidence of people being able to see the killer, I’d consider this exploit dead.
-
They probably just quick switched to avoid the new Franklin’s.
-
The problem isn’t that people don’t play for fun, it’s that everyone has a different idea of what fun is.
A full SWF teabagging with Object and flashlight macros may not be fun to you or me, but to those particular survivors it’s fun.
A killer running forever Freddy with four slowdown perks may not be fun for the survivors, but it may be fun for the killer.
A Wraith running a meme build and bing bonging away could be having a great time, but to someone who was expecting a serious game it may be completely unfun.
There’s no universal “fun” way to play DBD. I don’t find farming fun but others do. I find being tunnelled for all five gens fun, but it’s probably not fun for anyone else in the match, and others consider being tunnelled unfun.
So how do you please everyone? I try to play in a way that’s fun for me and I don’t want to ruin anyone’s match, but I still get people telling me I’m “playing like a #########” sometimes, when I don’t think I am at all. I certainly don’t try to. But I’m not a circus clown who’s there to entertain others - I don’t cheat, exploit, BM, try to be toxic or abuse overpowered stuff, but I feel like that’s as far as my consideration for others needs to go. Sorry if it’s not fun if I do gens fast or get downs fast, but it’s not fun to lose. That’s life.
-
I’m sick of people going on about camping to be honest. Camping is heavily punished by basic game mechanics and common perks, and if you can’t figure out how to outplay a camper you need to get better at the game.
Besides which I’ve never seen a suggestion for ways to punish camping that won’t just buff survivors who make boneheaded misplays. If a survivor goes down next to the basement in the middle of a three gen, for example, the killer shouldn’t be penalised by the game for then patrolling the area. That’s the survivor’s ######### up, no ifs ands or buts. But any anti-camping measure would also apply to this kind of scenario.
-
Yeah, this is one of the numerous sound bugs that’s in the game right now. I also have this when waking up or healing other survivors - my character will pant like they’re sprinting until they finish the action.
-
I found this challenge really easy in solo queue, got it without trying. You don’t have to do it in one match, you can do it over several. I think people’s frustration just comes from misunderstanding the requirements of the challenge.
-
People were getting erroneous dc bans again, so probably.
-
Yes, I use it. I play solo so I’m at the mercy of my teammates if I don’t, and there are killers are who will happily tunnel one guy out if there’s no Obsession. If I were in a SWF I probably wouldn’t bother running it.
