  • I think Dead Dawg is really balanced - not too big or small, building can be strong if run right but not busted, gens aren’t super unsafe but nor are they Haddonfield level safe, there are some decent loops and a couple of good pallets along with some weaker ones. Good places to use Balanced but no super safe drops. Totems that are hidden but not impossible to find (hi Lery’s). It has strengths and weaknesses for both sides but nothing too brainless, you can try to mindgame and play around most tiles. Survivors have resources to defend themselves, but they have to play well to use them.

I used to dislike this map but it’s grown on me a lot, I think it may be my favourite now. Along with Coal Tower, I think these are the most balanced maps.

  • I like SFTS in theory but having tried to use it and given up on it, it just isn’t consistent enough. Some maps have very few crows, some maps only have crows in certain areas, and then on top of that a lot of the notifications you get are while you’re already in chase and know where the survivor is anyway.

It’s a nice perk and not terrible by any means, but there are just so many better ones so it rarely finds a place in any of my builds. If I had a fifth perk slot I may run it here or there.

  • Yeah, this is normal. Expect to see multiple slowdown perks in most of your matches and play accordingly.

I get angry about it because its is garbage that builds up on the Forum, is bad for the community, and creates and "us versus them" illusion. I'm angry because the VERY first post sets out a scenario where a person DCs in the game and ruins the match. That person isn't given any condemnation or barely a second thought. Somehow, the thread isn't about people who rudely disconnect; it is about "Tryhard Killers," just another attack on Killers who are just doing their JOB.

And you (who seem to think I'm being confrontational) seem to be bending over backwards trying to find a way to justify this thread without ever addressing the point I keep bringing up. Who is the villain in the scenario, the Quitter or the Killer?

Quitters are obviously jackasses, I thought it was so obvious I didn’t need to say it. But this post isn’t about them, the game punishes them and everyone already knows why salty babies rage quit so it’s pointless to talk about.

Also, I called you confrontational because that’s how you described yourself, so please don’t make out like I’m attacking you by using a word that you yourself used in the previous post.

Someone who wants to "understand" doesn't start by using a nickname which is intended in a negative way. The term "Tryhard" tells you that the OP already had an opinion and is simply passing a judgement. Neither Killers nor Survivors have to explain how or why they play the game. The default is expected that you are going to attempt to achieve your objectives. Going back to your original comments:

    1. There are Rifts where you have to kill everyone by your own hand. If the Killer was going for that Rift they have already wasted the Mori, putting it in for that purpose and the disconnect has screwed things up. They might as well use it.
    2. If they want to get to another match fast, the best way is to eliminate the Survivors. I can tell you from first hand experience if you sit back and let them do Generators they take their damn time and assume you want to farm. They don't just get their butts in gear and out. The Killer ends up sitting there longer than if it had been a normal match.
    3. It is dubious to assume someone is actually tunneling. I know Survivors always assume they are being tunneled and camped. I've been called a tunneling Camper when I went (12) Hooks in a match and never hooked the same person twice in a row, and never stayed near the hook. All we have is the OP's PERCEPTION of events and his use of the word "Tryhard" has already shown his perception and bias is skewed. Do you see my point?

I am a bit confrontational in threads like these. They make me angry. I don't like seeing the blame and angst directed at a Player who stayed to play the game, when the problem was created by someone who couldn't be bothered.

You’re incorrect on point 1, I believe. The only rift challenge that requires moris is the recent Devour Hope one where the perk will do it, every other challenge that says “kill all survivors” includes killing them via hook, no mori needed. I may be forgetting one, but I don’t think I am.

I don’t see the point in getting angry and confrontational about someone you don’t know being called a tryhard (really not an offensive thing to be called in my opinion), but fair enough.

  • @savevatznick said:

Is there a difference between being slugged and doing a gen?

The killer might chase you off the gen, you might have to get up and go for a save, or tank a hit, or grab the Devour Hope totem that just got revealed. Sitting and doing a gen for 80 seconds is boring but at least you have to option to stop doing it, you can’t do anything at all if you’re slugged.

  • @Moundshroud said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1756978#Comment_1756978

My point is that this issue isn't the Killer's fault. This entire thread is annoying because it places the blame on a Player that did NOT create the problem. The problem is an idiotic, self-centered Player disconnected and left the match in a 3v1 state. That is where the blame, angst, and shame should lie. Instead, we are getting the normal "us versus them" garbage.

Maybe the OP just wants to understand the mindset of someone who views the game competitively, when they play in a more casual manner? People are allowed to ask questions, and others have given good reasons (wanting to get the match over with, for example).

Things don’t always have to be so confrontational. I’ve had survivors get mad at me before for “tryharding” when someone rage quit and when I explain that I just wanted a boring match over with, they were usually more reasonable. It doesn’t have to be “us vs them”.

You are making assumptions, which is always dangerous. You don't know what Rifts or Daily Rituals the Killer was working. Why are you blaming the Killer for the actions of the LOSER who disconnected and left the OP in a lurch? Get your priorities straight. There was only one villain in that scenario, and the blame BELONGS there.

Talk about making assumptions. I didn’t say anything about the killer except that if they wanted bp and/or emblems, they wouldn’t tunnel mori everyone. There are no challenges or dailies that require 3 tunnel mori kills either. Calm down.

  • @Moundshroud said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/206834/tryhard-killers

Because Killers have Emblems and BP to earn too? I'm sure that Killer was no happier about the DC than you were, but that doesn't mean the Killer should have to take it on the chin, anymore than you should. Don't blame the Killer. Report the DC twerp who put you in that position. Then do your best and earn what you can. That is all the Killer was doing.

You get garbage bloodpoints and emblems if you mori people early, so that obviously wasn’t their mindset.

  • The problem is, you can Urban Evade around the map, get sneaky unhooks, do some totems and a gen, then creep around until you get hatch and you’ll pip yourself all the way to red ranks. Your team will always die around you and you’ll never learn how to loop but you yourself will live and earn enough pips to hit rank 2.

The fact that the ranking system rewards this behaviour is the problem. Play like this at rank 15 where killers also waste a lot of time and your teammates are probably the same, that’s fine. Unfortunately if you get a ruthless, efficient killer and teammates who aren’t playing immersed, this scaredy playstyle will almost certainly doom everyone else.

  • Prestige isn’t really the problem with the grind since it’s completely optional. You could never prestige anyone and still have an insane grind ahead of you.

In my opinion they should leave prestige as it is, for completionists or people who enjoy grinding for stuff. But make the base grind from 0-50 and 50 onwards a bit less painful. Remove perk tiers, delete a ton of useless junk that clutters the bloodweb, rework how perks are purchased, whatever.

They don't even need BT or DS with how hitboxes decide to just disappear sometimes when they decide to hook-dive:

    https://youtu.be/inCH5cCrQBc

You can tell I noticed David chasing me to the hook. That's why I instantly charged up the chainsaw after the hook animation yet it quite literally did NOTHING to him OR the unhooked survivor.

It looks like your chainsaw only hit the Kate’s hitbox, and since she had invincibility frames while stuck in the unhook animation it did nothing. And when a survivor is unhooking their hitbox is actually a bit behind where they’re standing since they kind of lean forwards, but their hitbox doesn’t - so if you’d aimed a little more to the left you would have caught David as he unhooked.

Kind of silly, but that’s how it works. Whenever I aim for an unhooking survivor now I always aim behind them and I pretty much always hit them. A lot of killer players don’t know this and inadvertently hit the guy being unhooked.

  • Sometimes camping IS a strat, sorry. If a survivor goes down in the middle of a three gen, for example, they’re getting camped if I don’t want to throw the game. It’s nothing personal, but I’m not gonna walk away from every possible objective just so I’m not technically camping.

It’s on you to make camping unappealing to the killer. Don’t go down in the middle of a three gen, don’t go down next to the basement, don’t bomb the hook, make it so that the killer feels pressured to leave the hook area so that they won’t lose more gens. You have 60 seconds so you can make them sweat a little bit. If they still camp, they’re throwing the game and you can teabag them on your way out of the gate. If you feed camping though, you make it viable.

If anything I would say that the worst kind of camping is the premeditated kind. Insidious, NOED, Bitter Murmur so they can get everyone no matter what the survivors do.

  • The devs have acknowledged that Dead Hard needs some love since it doesn’t work properly a lot of the time on dedicated servers. They said they were looking at re-coding the perk to account for servers so it’s something they’re aware of, at the very least.

  • You won’t get to use it every game, if you’d prefer to run a perk that is more consistent then do that. But DS prevents you from being hooked back to back, which can be the difference between escaping and dying. If you don’t like being slugged after being unhooked then you can run Unbreakable as well.

  • I was gonna recommend the Nurse guide by OhTofu but I see someone has beaten me to it! It’s a great overview and gives you stats, tips and general strats. Beyond that it’s just practice and learning by doing.

  • When a survivor takes a hit from a weird angle and does a backflip into face plant. I crack up every time.

Watching a Myers moonwalk back and forth in front of the exit gate. Don’t see many people do it now (don’t see many people playing Myers tbh) but it’s so good.

That one patch where survivors could teabag while they pointed. The devs fixed it too fast, it was hilarious :(

  • Some simple tips that can help:

    • Always consider which side you break the pallet on. You don’t want to push the survivor towards safety, ideally you want to break it so that they have to run away into a less safe area.
    • Don’t just hook someone on a random hook. Consider what’s around. Hooking in a dead zone is good; and it’s not always worth it to hook someone in the basement, especially if you’re crunched for time.
    • Don’t chase a survivor in an area of safety. Always try and survey what’s around to understand whether you should commit to a chase or not.
    • Don’t just kick gens every time you see one with progress. It’s usually better to engage in a chase, and kicking a gen at 5% is barely worth the time the animation takes.
    • Learn when and when not to use your power. You probably don’t want to use Legion’s power on an injured survivor unless you’re using it to leave them and find someone else. You don’t want to use Doc’s blast at the corner of the map. You don’t want to stalk as Myers if the survivor is across the map. If you’re playing Hag, you need to be setting traps constantly.
    • Make sure you’re chasing a tile the right way. You basically want to force the survivor away from an easy fast vault, which means chasing anti-clockwise on a lot of tiles.
  • He performed the ultimate mind game, can’t believe you fell for such a noob strat

  • Just don’t get hit baby survivor.

  • @Angelicus23 said:

today I had 5 matches where one survivor was AFK, a minute passes and the match gets cancelled for the rest of the players

Yeah this is happening all the time. The game kicks one person out for no apparent reason, everyone else loads in and starts to play and then after a minute the match is cancelled. I just hope they’re aware of whatever the hell bug this is.

  • Yeah I can see why people compare them because they both essentially give a shortcut to a game, but moris are much much stronger and easier to use in the right hands.

  • It really depends on context. I always run Kindred so I can usually see what the killer does after someone gets hooked. If they start slapping the guy on the hook, face camping or just searching a really close proximity to the hook, then no, I’ll commit to my gen. If the killer leaves the hook area and it’s not a killer like Huntress or Spirit who can camp from afar, I’ll probably go for the save. I’ll also wait to see if the killer comes back and if they do, I’ll try to take aggro.

Killers play moris differently, so if they don’t seem like they want to tunnel mori the first guy there’s no point in not saving.

  • @Skycerer said:

    Protip: Do gens.

Ruin is useless while u working the gen.

This is good advice against killers who chase one person for 80 seconds, otherwise you just sink up to a minute into a gen only to get pushed off it and lose all progress. If the killer is even half decent you really do need to cleanse the totems.

  • I actually really like this map and find it quite creepy.

  • I think that survivors who use a Midwich offering with multiple Objects know exactly what they’re doing, and deserve no sympathy whatsoever.

  • I remember being a baby Claudette playing against a Huntress on swamp, and blending like my life depended on it (it did, I couldn’t last more than 10 seconds in a chase). This was before killer could close hatch so I remember crouch walking around the entire map as the last survivor looking for hatch. Being terrified and hiding in the reeds every time I heard the heartbeat. 😭 And then when I got the hatch I was so excited, but the killer must have been really annoyed because it took me aaages.

I also remember a game as a baby Doctor on Rotten Fields, I didn’t find a single survivor until one gen was left lmao. Then they teabagged me at the exit gates and I was so mad because I didn’t understand what the hell was going on. I didn’t play Doctor again for a long time because I was convinced he was terrible, when really I just didn’t understand his power (or how to play killer) at all.

Good to have official confirmation that other staff members, are I guess scared of being "called out" in the forums? You got people who pour thousands and thousands of hours into this game that they love, and prying any meaningful data out of BHVR's hands is both rare and even more rarely fruitful as it's often extremely narrow and comes with a big heaping helping of "well, don't use this data to extrapolate literally anything." I think people at this point might want more than just-for-fun stats.

I'm sure it's very exhausting, and plenty of people are much more rude than they need to be, but the idea that a significant portion of the developers might avoid their community here almost entirely because they don't want to "deal with it" is very disappointing.

To put it another way, some folks who spend thousands and thousands of hours (frankly the level of hours I've seen people put into this game was shocking when I first started getting into it, that's MMO-level hours for me) and sometimes even thousands of dollars into this game and then having their concerns and complaints get treated as a nuisance rather than as the point of view of someone very dedicated to the game is unfortunate. Again, not saying that every single person deserves all their questions answered and demands met simply because they play a lot, but as it stands the expected default response anyone making a thread has is deafening silence.

I don’t think this is fair. The designers spending time posting on the forums isn’t actually part of their job, and they’re under no obligation to do it, especially when they get rude and dismissive responses to the stuff they post. If I worked on this game I would stay far away from the forums, personally. The way some people talk about the devs is honestly pretty gross - and I say this as someone who is critical of a lot of decisions they make, people aren’t critical of their decisions, they’re outright rude and insulting a lot of the time.

Why would anyone want to voluntarily spend their own free time contributing to a forum that talks about them and to them like they’re a moron?

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/205721/something-that-needs-addressing-about-elodie

I felt very much your OP may of offended literally innocent people, as there is similar differences with Elodie and Claudette, I feel your post seemed to of bashed people that just felt at a glimpse it was Claud and even calling her Claud 2 is not been racist at all. You are basically calling people like myself a racist just because I addressed things that are similar which I don't think it's right and the devs, mods would insta ban people been racist which I cant see posts of such a nature.

Thinking it was a Claudette skin promo trailer at first is not necessarily racist, you’re right. But why would someone call her Claudette #2 when they’re completely different? Different nationalities, personalities, looks, voices and mannerisms. Claudette is a skinny nerd and Elodie is a glamorous thief. The only thing they have in common is that they’re both female and black.

  • Stop letting teabags upset you and you’ll enjoy the game a lot more.

  • If my teammates are playing selfishly, then I reserve the right to be just as selfish and peace out of the match.

  • Consider that this can be used in a 4-man SWF with every other survivor being competent and also using meta perks AND using a strong med-kit, a Brand New Part or even a Key with the Blood Amber add-on.

True. And yet Power Struggle/Flip Flop would be by far the weakest part of it, lol.

  • I think they could buff it very slightly and it would still be fine. Like down to a 2 second break. But it’s not in a bad place, it’s not meta but it has its place in certain builds.

  • Love the concept, can’t wait to see the power and perks in action 😍

  • Just run it yourself. I do even though I find it a boring perk because I’d rather have an Obsession in the match. Seems pretty stupid that I feel the need to run a perk I don’t enjoy and really don’t want to use, but it is what it is.

  • No, we’re not sure. People are just speculating because it’s fun. :D

  • The ranked mode IS the casual mode in this game. They’re one and the same. Getting to high rank in this game is absolutely no achievement because a monkey could do it by grinding enough games.

  • @Unifall said:

Same reason killers camp or tunnel. Maybe you made the killer upset or they're just like that. Its the same reason why t bagging the killer isn't bannable. If you're ever caught in a situation like that go grab a snack or play on your phone. It shouldn't be bannable.

Teabagging isn’t really comparable because teabagging does absolutely nothing to stop anyone playing the game. That’s more comparable to smacking someone on the hook - most people agree it’s BM but it doesn’t impact the actual gameplay.

  • @iZombie said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1738565#Comment_1738565

It’s also beneficial for both sides as sometimes slugged survivors want to waste the killers time by waiting in a corner to bleed out. There’s no reason for it to be in the game other than a way to try to annoy somebody else.

Yep, and if the survivor on the ground gets the silent bug they can be easily missed even if they don’t want to crawl into a corner to waste time.

  • @iZombie said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1738556#Comment_1738556

I think if you’re the last person alive and the hatch is closed, then the entity should just kill you. That way you don’t have to just lie on the floor and wait to bleed out. Similar to how the last survivor can’t struggle on the hook anymore. I don’t see why this is any different.

100% agreed. They’ve removed most of the other “wasting everyone’s time” scenarios from the game, this one needs to go too IMO.

  • @TheClownIsKing said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/204625/why-isn-t-it-against-the-rules-to-leave-one-person-to-bleed-out

I was almost certain that this kind of slugging behaviour is reportable as griefing.

I’m a heavy slugger and know not to do this. The ONLY instance I’ve been in where I’ve just stood there by their dying body is when they’re the absolute last survivor and they thought they were being clever crawling to a corner with a hook dead zone. I kind of have no choice but to leave them there and I’ve got nowhere else to go because I’ve already closed the hatch.

Yeah, I have no problem with slugging as a gameplay mechanic, I slug a lot too and there are situations where survivors kind of force you bleed them out like you mentioned. I have no issue with stuff like that, I’m not complaining about slugging in general since there are ways around it most of the time and it’s a normal part of gameplay.

But slugging the last person and refusing to pick them up as a form of BM is really pathetic and it shouldn’t be in the game at this point, in my opinion. Especially when disconnect penalties are live.

  • Well everything is a part of the game until it isn’t. Hatch stand offs used to be a part of the game. Survivors holding the game hostage by creeping around and refusing to do gens is a part of the game.

Not being able to determine ill intent is a fair point though. I’d be happy if they just removed this situation altogether. They’ve eliminated many frustrating situations in the past, with new mechanics like EGC, and they’ve made the game better for doing it.

  • @TAG said:

I don't think the devs are in the market to ban people for what is at most a very temporary inconvenience.

Mori spamming was also a temporary inconvenience.

  • @bm33 said:

They should make it so survivors can speed up bleed out. 4 minutes is way too long to be doing nothing but maybe crawling around on the ground getting 0 points.

If they made it so that the last survivor gets sacrificed by the Entity if on the ground, with full bloodpoints and emblem points for the killer, I really don’t see how anyone could complain. Killers are not penalised and survivors don’t have to deal with four minutes of pointless time wasting, and salty survivors can’t crawl into a distant corner to deny the killer points.

  • @Skycerer said:

Why isn't offensive DS against the rules?

Because it’s a perk that stuns you for five seconds. If it stunned you for four minutes I’d see your point.

  • Yeah. The change they made to make rank reset drop you only one rank colour has pushed me to SWF as well. I have absolutely nothing against people who are inexperienced at the game, we were all new once, but they should not be playing at rank 1/2/3. Red rank solo is so, so frustrating at times.

  • I’m not really a fan of the perk. As survivor, getting my item smacked out of my hand and then stolen by a random teammate is quite annoying. As killer, I don’t usually get a lot of value out of it. It just feels like a perk that was made to grief or annoy people, which I’m not a fan of in general.

If you wanna use it then go ahead though, people who get that heated about it are a bit pathetic. It’s just an item.

  • Here are my predictions: it will be an original killer. Female, 115% ms, with some kind of stance change like old Doc or Pig’s crouch.

Whatever it is I hope it has some interesting lore and cool perks. :D

  • Yes. This is only acceptable if someone will go into second stage if you don’t unhook them, imo. I’d rather be farmed before second than left if those are my only two options.

  • I think it depends on your definition of toxicity.

OP, I assume you’re talking about stuff like flashlight clicking, teabagging, doing dumb stuff like DSing a killer then jumping in a locker and stunning them again with Head On. Or as killer, pretending to give a survivor the hatch then shutting it, or nodding at someone you just downed and slapping them on the hook. Things that a lot of people call “toxic” but that is just stupid gameplay stuff, not actual toxicity like telling someone to die in post-game chat. If so then yes, that kind of stuff can be fun to a lot of people.
