Yeah...and how often does that work against an experienced Nurse? I can lead a Nurse on a pretty long chase but predicting where she is going to go but sometimes she predicts my fake and I’m down. All it takes is one mistake on your end and Nurse will down you.
Breaking LOS and being unpredictable is all you can do. It’s not foolproof though, as it shouldn’t be
A Nurse player who is very good will down you in a matter of seconds.
Why should your options all be fool proof? Why shouldn’t you have to guess? This line of thinking is an indictment of our community. Looping killers and leaving them with very few options should NOT be the norm. Survivors should not get to dictate how much time they can waste; there should be mindgames and counterplay on both sides.
I am an experienced Nurse main and can tell you that there is a noticeable difference between people who know how to play against Nurse and those who don’t.

I’ve played Nurse and gotten a 4K, but I’m absolutely terrible with her. I play on console so it’s not easy to play her :/
I’ve seen many (even average) Nurse players who destroy a team. What do you mean she doesn’t have the tools to fight a good SWF team? They HAVE no tools against a Nurse. Pallets and loops are useless because she can just blink through them. Any halfway decent Nurse player can hit most of their blinks and end chases quickly.
Billy can get looped to an oblivion. He’s not great with an SWF team. An instadown means nothing when you can’t even use your chainsaw. He is one of the better killers but not at the very top.
Spirit is basically Nurse, but with a longer cooldown. It’s very easy to destroy a team with Spirit.
Hag isn’t great with OoO and flashlight users but I RARELY run into OoO and I won’t play Hag against flashlights so I never really have any issues with Hag.
It honestly doesn’t matter if they are an SWF group or not. Most players do not play sweaty, they’re just having fun with their friends. Most of the time you get laid back SWF group. Not tournament squads where you HAVE to play sweaty.
Nope. You’re still thinking about it the wrong way. Nurse does not ignore game mechanics, she just uses them differently than other killers. If you are trying to run her around a cow loop or car junk, you are playing incorrectly. You’re supposed to make her guess where you are by breaking LOS and running back or forward depending on the read.
-
Props to anyone on PS4 still using her. I went pc Nurse and never went back.

If you want to nerf Nurses chase, she wouldn't be Nurse anymore. Nurses identity is her uncounterable chase. Hard to think about a chase nerf that doesnt change her fundamentally. A mobility nerf hits hard, since time is the most valuable ressource, but she still has her core gameplay. How would you nerf her chase, without changing her concept of appearing next to someone? I think more people would be unhappy if they changed that.
Well she’s definitely not “uncounterable” in a chase, but that’s a different topic. I don’t, personally, think she should have been nerfed outside of her addons.

Sorry if that came harsh. No offense, thought you wanted to do this on purpose just to prove a point.
Not sure wether thats a bad thing tbh. Her chase is still better than Spirits. Both have about the same map pressure now. Her having the best chase, along with slightly above average mobility seems more balanced. Previously she had the best chase and the second best map pressure, now the mobility got normalized.
This makes no sense though. People complained about Nurse being too good in chase, not about her mobility. They nerfed her map control for no reason

If you know they have it, you need to move back and forth in front of the locker. If they are being scared, you can open the locker for a grab. If they guess wrong, then they will jump out and not hit you, giving you a hit or grab. You need to learn the spacing of where they can and cannot hit you.

Didn't I just say earlier in this thread that I did?
I got 4K as Nurse sometime in December last year. My first killer game. It's not hard when you know how to play Survivor and understand the theory of how to play this game. I'm a survivor main and I'm pretty good at it. Was pretty good at it for a beginner back when I was new to this game. I killed the first two survivors blinking around -- I suck at blinking but I predicted where they'd go because I understand survivor pathing at the low ranks. Then the last two I 3-genned to death and they had no idea how to counter me.
I'm at least good enough to understand how the scrubs at Level 16-20 play -- and those are the kind of survivors I fought in my first game as a Rank 20 nurse.
It's up to you if you don't believe, doesn't really matter to me. The important point isn't my skill at crushing survivor newbs. The important point is Nurse is the strongest killer in this game, and is a lot stronger than the OP is trying to discredit her for.
I'd also like to add that my Killer Main is Myers. And I don't get easy 4K's with Myers all the time. It's a lot easier to get them with Nurse.
Literally no one cares about your rank 20 killer games.

Okay. So the Nurse learns to guess ahead of time and predict where the survivors will go. So the survivors can't reliably juke her or fake her out anymore. Now they're screwed.
It's really that simple; she lacks counterplay. No matter how good you are as a survivor, the Nurse will almost always land a hit if she's good enough. And this is coming from a Killer main, mind you.
But it’s a guess: that means the survivor can guess right and keep the chase going.

If I'm wrong, then prove me wrong. Saying "You're wrong, you know nothing, you shouldn't be giving balance opinions" is little more than a playground insult. I could say the same thing about you, and it would just be your word against mine.
Nurse’s plan is to try and blink on top of you. If you are going to attempt to turn back, she has to guess ahead of time and charge accordingly. If you break LOS her plan is to blink to the corner she last saw you. From there her options are more limited: her second blink is short ranged and in many situations, she can’t reach you if you simply move forward. From there the mindgame turns to, will you run forward or continue to turn and put objects between the two of you.
-
@Monlyth said:

No, base nurse was not fine. If you master her, the survivors are screwed. No two ways about it.
A lot of people seem to have the narrow-minded view that if something takes skill, then it's allowed to be overpowered. That's how we end up with metas like the current Killer meta, where Nurse and Spirit are pretty much the only killers you see at red ranks. It makes the game boring and stale for anyone who truly masters it.
The game should be more fun, more varied and have more depth as you get better at it. It should never be restricted to a meta where everyone plays exactly the same way.
This is factually false and shows that you either don’t play Nurse or don’t understand how she works. You probably shouldn’t be giving balance opinions.

And in those ultra-sweaty SWF matches, Nurse is the best Killer by far. Her power is on a whole different level from most other killers. She completely ignores most of the defenses that survivors normally have against killers.
A great Nurse player is one of the few things that can beat a Rank 1 SWF group on a fairly regular basis. She's easily the strongest killer in the game.
This is the generic argument that people spew without any explanation. If you know anything about the Nurse, you know that base Nurse has to constantly guess and outplay the survivors, but omega blink Nurse severely reduces the survivor’s options. Base nurse was perfectly fine.
@[Deleted User] said:
I don't agree with the Nurse nerfs either, but trying to downplay that she "isn't that strong" is simply not true.
She's the strongest killer in the game. She will still be the strongest killer in the game even if the nerf does go through, because that's how strong she actually is.
We know a "depip squad" is overpowered. You don't balance the game by throwing one overpowered thing at the other. Doing so results you in a game called 'League of Legends'.
Game balance is more than making both sides having an equal chance at winning. Two enemies for example may be able to one shot each other in a fighting game and that may be 'balanced' on paper, but that doesn't make for an engaging experience.
I think the OP should have clarified that Nurse is not broken. She is definitely strong, but base Nurse is NOWHERE near broken.

EDIT: On XBOX, if you're in SWF or just see your team's names you can go to "recent players" to check who the killer was
I never dodge based on appearance. The rare times that I have were because I knew the people i was against would DC if I kill them and taunt me if they won, or if it was a squad I recognized as using three instaheals. There is nothing to get gud at against blatantly unfair items.

So what is the problem with 4 people escaping through the hatch?
For that to happen all 5 gens have to be completed. The game's pretty much over by then, so what's the problem? (And the killer screwed up for that matter)
Have you even tried getting that achievement? It is freaking hard to do.
Keys are fine. They are nowhere near as OP and unfair as, say, an Ebony Mori. Keys are fair, especially after the EGC change.
3 people escaping from the hatch with one gen left is absolutely unfair. Keys are bad design and should be removed.

The servers have been a terrible experience for me. I’m a Nurse main and, regardless of ping, I always experience my blinks not going the correct distance and then being warped forward seconds later.
I was also playing Michael recently and experienced a terrible glitch that showed me getting into EW 3 and then immediately losing it and, consequently, what should have been a down. I lost the game because if it.
Please get rid of the servers if you can’t get it right.

At least half of that sentence is correct. Guessing doesn't involve skill, it's just guessing. Is she going to phase to this side of the window or that side? Is she even phasing in the first place?
Also, mind game =/= guessing game.
Guessing is apart of pretty much any pvp game. The fact that you think it shouldn’t be for ONLY this game shows how blatantly weak and unfair guesses are for most killers.
-
@PolarBear said:
Spirit's base kit does need some changes. Mainly ways for survivors to have more counterplay and more feedback on that counterplay.
You don't need to worry about that yet, next rework/add-on rework is going to be Doctor so at least another 6 months before she'll get changed.
Translation: I shouldn’t have to guess against her and should get away for free every time.

@White_Owl said:
a large percent of her skill cap was removed
How making the use of a power requiring more tactical thought instead of mindless spam reduces the skillcap? To me it would increase it.
The skillful element of Nurse is being able to predict movement and blink there for the hit/down. The problem with this change is that it severely limits her ability to efficiently travel the map to look for other survivors. Base blink has pretty short range, so it usually takes two to get to another gen after a hook. But if you use 2, you then have none when you get there, which gives the survivor a massive head-start - and could potentially allow them to not even be within her blink range- this means she has low incentive to leave a hook.
Why would I, as a Nurse player, want to now go far from a hook? It’s a much better idea to stay close and wait for survivors to approach. As a previous poster said, this change just limits what you can do with her. It doesn’t require more skill.

Holy text, Batman!
But seriously, I see what they're trying to say. It's more of a change than people think, but what this fails to incorporate is that her chase potential is mostly still there, because Survivors don't run in a straight line. She can still be used competitively.
Relying on survivors being ignorant isn’t a valid point. Good survivors will exploit this.

Annnnnyways, I'm running around halls in that place that have 2-3 pallets in the hall. Then there is all the lockers, stairs with a vault in the loft above them, etc.
This team was coordinated with 4 Adren, 3 BT, etc. seeing just unstoppable groups at higher and higher ranks now. Not sure if they were SWF.
Anyone else have trouble with this map? Seems like this and Haddonfield I am about to be punked. They used an offering to pick this too.
It depends on the killer. Hawkins is one of Nurse’s worst maps and is probably hard for Billy, while it is the pretty good for stealth killers like Michael and Pig. So the answer is, it depends.

I play both sides, mainly hag on killer, even though i hate going against hag when playing survivor (spirit too, and way more than nurse)
I'm pretty knew to game. I'm rank 11 on survivors and 12 on killer (mainly cause i've been experimenting all killers) But hag is the one that seems stupid good, i've never had under 3k game with her, she can be everywhere! How do you counter that? I heard that you don't see hag much in red ranks. i wonder why and i'd like to know.
I usually place my traps in very weird places, since i already have pretty good understanding where survivors move. There's nothing for them to do when they trigger phantasm in the middle of nowhere.
TL;DR: why isn't hag considered top tier with billy/nurse and spirit? Just curious, cause i've heard a lot of "hag is bad" comments.
She is devastating at lower ranks (as are most killers) but red rank survivors can destroy her. Her slow speed allows EZ looping, and as someone already mentioned, she has to set up traps at the beginning of the game- this wastes time. Good survivors will chug through ruin skill checks, which puts even more pressure on Hag.

@JohnnyGat666 said:
The Nurse’s skill ceiling is far too high. Something needed to be done. I’m hoping they will keep the basekit changes as they are so that survivors can stand a chance against a good Nurse.
A good Nurse player will not see much difference when these changes go live. Unfortunately it does make it more difficult for newer players to use Nurse.
As per usual a killer gets tweaked and suddenly the forums are flooded with crying killer mains.
All Nurse players (those who don’t just go to Spirit and win anyways) are going to be affected. These nerfs are devastating to her map control. If you couldn’t match up against Nurse before the nerfs, you were just bad. Plain and simple. She had plenty of counterplay.

Okay, so Nurse chase now takes 30 seconds longer instead of 10 seconds longer.
This is a huge problem for a nurse main who plays in the high ranks, apparently.

How oppressive the Nurse is for survivors and all the Killer biased buffed they’ve been doing the past year it’s about time we catch a break here. Honestly I think the changes will make her alot funner for both sides. As someone who rarely plays Nurse and never had the patience to master her, this is making me reconsider.
You will lose that curiosity the second you play her lol.
-
Another thing people aren’t talking about is the 6 seconds you’ll have to wait after 2 blinks. Base blink doesn’t have enough range to catch up to survivors.
Even if I know exactly where the survivor is, Nurse literally won’t be able to reach them if they decided to just gain distance (which any smart player will do). This nerf is 100% unfair to Nurse.
BTW Nurse is now completely dead on console. She will probably be one of the worst killers in the game.

I mean if you think it's weak, that's your opinion and is therefore completely valid. But, what common add-ons aren't worthless? They all give minimal impact on gameplay but can help newer players or can just offer a helping hand if you don't have any other add-ons to run.
It’s not an opinion. How many good players, outside of spirit, run stridor? The larger problem is that it seems like ALL of Nurse’s addons outside of the lesser fatigue time are garbage.

Have you ever played Nurse? Sounds play a vital role in playing as her, if they didn't, the current LOS blockers in the game would destroy her, but they don't. That's because good Nurses will either:
Predict where the survivor is going
And/or
Use sounds to determine what they are doing, footsteps and grunts of pain give the Nurse enough info to safely determine where the survivor is going.
I’m not saying sounds overall are useless, but how does the addon do anything? Any half decent nurse can use normal sounds. My point is that she relies more on sight. This is yet another worthless addon in a game full of them. And btw I consistently 4 k with current nurse.

It doesn't become a random guess, you still know approximately where survivors have run to. Breaking LOS is the only counterplay survivors have against Nurse, since she ignores any kind of defense survivors have, so I don't see how it's fair if survivors have a slightly longer chance of being able to break LOS.
Nurse blinks to a corner- if the survivor decided to run straight, her base blink will not reach them which is another cooldown. The survivor now gets to totally dictate the guessing game.
-
@Peanits said:

This is a good thing. This gives them an opportunity to lose the killer which is- without a doubt- the most powerful in a chase. If you're concerned with losing the survivor, I would suggest using this:
Metal Spoon
Hitting a Survivor with a blink attack causes their sounds of pain to be moderately louder for 60 seconds.
That'll help you keep track of them even if they do break line of sight.
Sounds aren’t that important with Nurse and often aren’t helpful because of the limited time you have to decide if you want to blink again. That add on does nothing.

If three seconds is a deal breaker, I don't know what to tell ya'. There's even add-ons to reduce it further.
How is that not big? Now, even when a survivor is hit, they can create alot of distance and break LOS. Then it becomes a complete random guess into another 3 seconds if they aren’t there.

When you exhaust all other options (as if you really have any against a good nurse), you might as well try to get those stun bloodpoints, because if the nurse wants your team dead that game you probably aren't getting many bloodpoints that game.
So the answer is to give up? Yea, if you have that mentality then you probably shouldn’t talk about balance.

And this right here is what I hate about forums. You take/waste your precious time explaining "why" something has no counterplay and what "counterplay" even is and people think you're talking about your opinion on something and assume/conclude like there's no tomorrow.
Where did I say ANYTHING about MY opinion about Spirit? Where did I say I want her power to be changed?
And no, counterplay and guessing are two different things and I explained the difference perfectly. If you're unwilling to use your head to understand the difference then I'm not willing to even contribute to this discussion any further.
So how are putting down pallets, using windows, and mixing up scratchmarks not counterplay?
-
@Akarate_Dolphin said:
I keep getting Shreked by Spirit Players, is there a good YT guide to counter her or any tips in general?
Definitely try to be misleading with your scratchmarks. It’s always best to slam a pallet down or go threw a window when you know she is phasing because she then has to use a lot of her phase time to go around the obstacle.
@Yamaoka said:
Counterplay refers to using mechanics to counter something.
Therefore Spirit has no counterplay as no in-game mechanic can stop her "per se" no matter when and how you use said mechanics.
Example for counterplay: Hillbilly wants to chainsaw you. You hop over a close-by window in time. You just countered the chainsaw by using an in-game mechanic correctly. It will ALWAYS work if you vault (in time). That's counterplay.
Against Spirit all you can do is "guess correctly" and hope the Spirit player is bad and plays without a headphones.
I don’t get this reasoning. Guessing is counterplay. It sounds like you just want something for survivors to totally shut down Spirit to the point where she can’t catch you. Sorry you can’t ez loop her like other killers. All killers should make you guess better than they currently do.

No. There are decent players who Do not Main any of the OP ones and pull of decent games in redranks. So it is without any doubt the lack of skill and knowledge on player side. Players tend to be lazy and use the way with least resistance meaning using OP stuff.
It’s not “lazy” to use the best killers. As a killer, I in no way have to make sure that you have fun. I’d also argue that lower tier killers are more RNG and less “skillful” because they are at the mercy of pallet spawns and ridiculous, time-consuming loops. The better killers require more in terms of reads and skill.

Do you actually believe what you write? You claim that it isn't a balance problem (nurse being too strong), but that most survivors don't know how to play. Where are these survivors who are trying to loop nurse at pallets? I never see that, and I'm always playing at rank 1 survivor/killer. The fact is, a good nurse will have you down in at MOST 2 sets of blinks if they use their power well (regardless of what you as the survivor do). If you are not able to consistently do that, that is your own problem. And that nurse, if she is a good player, is able to 12 hook 4k equally skilled survivor teams consistently. If you think that is balanced, you're too far gone.
Oh, and people cry about spirit because if you are not using Iron Will and the spirit isn't deaf, you're dead in the water. I always use Iron Will, so it's not bad for me, but it's pretty troubling that a perk is absolutely needed to do well against one killer.
I don't know where the notion that 'survivors aren't good/smart' anymore came from, but it's such a ridiculous notion that I'm surprised anyone believes it (although I suppose it allows nurse mains to feel better about 4k'ing all the time - if they claim survivors are just all terrible, it's easier to convince yourself you deserve all those 4ks)
Really? I am a rank 1 Nurse and I consistently come across red rank survivors who try to use pallets on me. Survivors are terrible against her, there’s no other way to say it.

I would honestly be very surprised if any "slight base kit adjustments" to Nurse are anything else than very slight. Not sure what it could be, but it seems like the focus is heavily placed on her add-ons. And from what they've shown all we know is that it seems omegablink is gone, her weird and underused greens and purples are getting some changes, and some rarities are getting swapped around.
For +blink addons I'd imagine they're probably to eliminate the "no downsides" 3/4 blink loadouts, or perhaps making some level of +blink an ultra-rare (as then they wouldn't have to change the 3 blink grab achievement!)
For the basekit stuff? Guess there's no real way to know what they have in mind. Gonna have to tell the doomsday prophets that act like she's getting a 20 second blink cooldown or something to chill and wait until we know more though, I don't see them ever straight up gutting Nurse 😄
The problem is that any slight change could be very detrimental to her base kit. She already has two blinks, neither of which go far. So what are they going to change? Charge time would make it even easier to counter her. Fatigue, while it wouldn’t hurt as much as range or charge, is already at a decent level. I can’t think of a minor change that wouldn’t really hurt her.

Map: Badham Preschool 1
I let them get up and fully healed after every hook did not tunnel. I was DS'd all 3 times by the locker juke even after hooking survivors prior to picking all of them out. We had the instant heal and da da dead hards and the right perks to decently counter a killer with gen rushing. They completed all but one generator which I made no attempt to protect the generators the entire match. Would have been a 32k game if the person didn't disconnect. Again nurse is not balanced at base kit. Although, I did hear she is getting tweaks to add-ons mainly and a part of her base.
This is 100% anecdotal. I can also post “ez” 4k screenshots, just as well as i can post pics of me losing with Nurse. This “evidence” proves nothing.
The fact of the matter is, base nurse has to guess with her blinks- against good survivors who know how to mindgame. I’ve said this before and i’ll say it again: I still run across a large number of survivors who try to use pallets against her. Clearly, even most red rank survivors have no idea how to play against her. You’re not allowed to complain if you don’t know tactics against her.

That's ridiculous. No single survivor deserves to die because their team sucked. Survivors are individuals, not a unit (though they can act like one but that changes nothing). And you can't adapt to some situations because they're basically impossible to overcome.
How is RNG impossible? I play nurse and spirit and it’s still 50/50 on whether or not i find the hatch first, worse if it was a close game where the hatch has already spawned and the survivors know about it. The endgame mechanics could be better, but they are in a much better place than they were with the dreadful hatch standoffs.

Reading the responses to this has just made me realise that, on average, the people playing Dead by Daylight are incredibly toxic, petty individuals. It makes me kinda regret buying the game in the first place, because everyone acts like... Well, that!
"If you brought this game specifically to have fun with your friends then you deserve to feel bad because winning is the ONLY thing that matters in this super-competitive game. You should play with strangers and have no fun for hours on end so you can git gud and EARN the PRIVILEGE to enjoy yourself in our ELITE GAME" is the overall message/vibe I'm getting here.
Don't worry Devs, you don't need to fix your game. Bugs aren't gonna scare people away as fast as your toxic fanbase...
If you can’t handle people wanting to win, maybe video games aren’t for you....
