And I actually looked it up and they didn’t say what you think you remember them saying.

I wasn't trying to word for word it. Despite the paraphrasing, the point is right.

OoO was brought up in a question, almo referenced it not performing well and acted as if he was oblivious to the problem. That clip trended, then it was nerfed. It was reactionary not proactively based on stats.

During the original Q&A Almo/Ethan explicitly said that according to the statistics OoO wasn't much of a problem because it wasn't run that often and it didn't positively impact escape rates, Mcote then added, correctly, that it might be more the issue of how it felt playing against it.

This^^^ Thank you! Of course the lead designer said they're keeping an eye on it... Can't act entirely oblivious in a live QA.

Again, I’m saying I think you’re assuming the tail is wagging the dog on OoO. They didn’t say what you thought they said, and there’s no particular indication they were only looking at surface endgame stats in the first place.

So yes it was explicitly said by a head developer which caused so much backlash on the forums that it was LITERALLY the only topic for weeks.

I was actually playing then. Don't tell me I don't know what and how it went 😂

I looked it up and that’s not what they said. One of the developers said Object of Obsession seemed to have poor performance overall so it might be a perception issue, and Cote said the perk still was being looked at though.

And if you think they didn’t rely mainly on stats when deciding what the revamp would be or if they needed to revamp it you’re wrong. I guarantee they looked at a bunch of data before revamping that perk, they don’t just make changes based on forum posts. (If they did they would have nerfed NOED a long time ago.)

Another good example of my opinion is when they shadow nerfed Discordance... That was not even complained about by survivors at all because it only forces more efficiency by not doubling up on gens... Perfect example of a change based ONLY on statistics that took everybody by surprise and wasn't even asked for.

It would be horrible to nerf and buff things based ONLY on forum complaints every other perk would be useless or overpowered... But nerfing or buffing without any general concerns voiced by the players about it in the first place also shows that the data didn't represent the reality of the effectiveness of the perk overall.

Again lol, I'm not saying statistics are not used or important to use.

    Re-read^^^

I'm saying relying on statistics IN SPITE of rampant opinion of player majority means they're not looking at the right statistics. My god the way you keep repeating yourself as if I'm insulting the devs makes me wonder if you're just trying not to lose cosmetics. They gave GOTTEN BETTER at balancing statistics and opinion instead of relying on JUST statistics. The story of OoO showed a PAST tendency to merely ignore mass opinion due to surface endgame stats.

  • @dugman said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2786484#Comment_2786484

I think there’s a general misconception that the devs ignore things when they don’t immediately make a change suggested on the forums. I don’t think they do, rather changes usually take a long time for them to actually get to the table and implement. There’s no reason to believe they weren’t aware Object of Obsession was problematic in swfs, they simply took a long time to change it, probably because of a combination of them feeling it was lower priority than other changes and also something that would require more than a simple numerical change to address.

Just because they don’t act quickly doesn’t mean they’re ignoring anything.

It was literally stated in a developer update that there was NO issue with OoO and from their data it was a poor performing perk overall and there were no plans to nerf it... After the overwhelming response of "do you even play your game" came the scrutiny of OoO. I'm not saying it's not better now than it was then, I'm also not suggesting adjusting perks solely on forum feedback. But if the overwhelming feedback doesn't match the data their looking at then they need to look at different parameters to see the data.

  • @dugman said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2784646#Comment_2784646

Actually Object of Obsession is an example of them using stats to verify that the perk had a disproportionate impact on groups with swfs. Far from being impossible, they were able to pivot out results with or without swfs using or not using that perk and compare results and found a big disparity, The same can be done for any perk, pivoting out how well it does with and without swfs in general and even on specific maps.

If anything Object of Obsession’s nerf is a success story for stats, not a failure.

But those stats were only considered after the backlash. Stats are used far more as a broad tool which only paints a partial view of the experience.

I'm not saying to ignore statistics I'm advocating that if there is a rampant opinion of something in game it shouldn't be ignored on surface statistics.

  • @dugman said:

What convinces them to nerf things is internal stats, they don’t go by just anecdotal posts. They’re probably monitoring both how popular a perk is, escape rates with and without the perk, and what other perks opposing sides use and escape rates with various combinations. So for Boil Over they’d look at how often survivors escape when someone has Boil Over, how often when nobody has it, how often when survivors have Boil Over and the killer has Iron Grasp, and how often when the killer doesn't have Iron Grasp. If those number are out of whack then they’ll nerf it.

That’s why they nerf add-ons which get confused posts saying “nobody asked for this to be nerfed”. Well also nobody actually tracks game stats with and without various add-ons and load out combos aside from the devs themselves so it’s possible for particular add-ons to be somewhat too good but not draw a lot of attention by not getting into the meta or being used by streamers.

This is true and mostly effective. But stats show end results and it's hard to reference stats to anything more than an individual player. Trying to apply those end results to matches with many random other teammates and all results of TEAM win vs loss is nearly impossible.

Does anybody remember the ONSLAUGHT of backlash a developer got for saying the stats showed Object Of Obsession as a non issue perk? That's because 92% of the time OoO user died, I.E. weak perk statistically. After the feedback from that embarrassing moment it was actually watched in mid to high skill matches and showed that almost the same percentage of 3 man escapes happened in those matches. And usually even though the OoO user died, the killer got only 3-4 hooks (whole match!) And 1 kill. That's because OoO was highly abusable in skilled teams as a call out for killer location and activity.

So weak individually because the killer would have to fixate on killing that player to even get a fair match.

  • @JawsIsTheNextKiller said:

As it is now, we haven't really convinced the devs that Circle of Healing is particularly powerful. We did get a minor nerf, but I am not sure the devs have played against the types of teams that killer main complain about.

Would the devs be willing to live stream custom matches against a team of some of us?

I don't mean top MMR squads, just SWFs of good-ish players that know how to capitalise on certain combinations of perks/addons/offerings.

I know that Boil Over is also being monitored, and it is possible that the devs are aware that it may be over-tuned. But if they come to the conclusion that "actually Boil Over is fine", maybe stream some matches with us using that too?

I think Hex: Pentimento should allow killer to break boons and rebuild them to Pentimento. Survivors could still bless it but it would take longer (than a dull totem) and would slow down gens in the process. Of course if you break it a second time it stays gone.

  • @CrowVortex said:

Blast Mine, the amount of times it's eaten my Pop is unreal.

Dragon's Grip, not from a survivor's perspective, more the fact that I've never benefited from it or used it to its full effect.

Use Dragons Grip with Trail of Torment (the perk, not ability). Then just wander far enough to block LoS... Someone will tap it within 15 seconds most times😈

  • Survivor: Spine Chill, lights the perk up in quadrants to indicate the rough approach direction.

Killer: HEX: Pentimento allows you to also break boon totems to rebuild them as hex totems.

  • Keep playing... It may consider your survivor mmr at first if you have no killer data to use. It'll balance outish.

What is worse than a sore loser? A sore winner. As Killer you can't do anything to stop them from leaving. In a few cases the overestimate and get caught, but that good feeling does not erase the other times when they just tease you.

I read many times, that you can just ignore it or don't go to the exit gates. If ignoring it would help, there would not be daily complains about it. And if you don't go to the exit gates, you have to stand somewhere waiting until they leave, a complete time waste.

I am proposing to change that, so you can't crouch at the exit gates and in an area around it, because everybody knows, survivor will just find a way to exploit it.

Nobody would be harmed. It has only positive aspects.

U really belive no one of the licence holders did check what they did before they brought it into the ptb?

    Really?

U really think this to be a thing?

Depends on whether the creative license for the specific line was created in script or by Doug Bradley via creative credit. Might be a different license.

I was Meyers, your teammates were Jake, Feng, and Nea respectively. You brought a key to the match, and had only one person dead, one gen left, and one injured teammate. You yourself were full health, and had not yet tasted a single hooking.

Rather than free someone from the hook or speed up your friend's healing, you chose, instead, to open the hatch with your precious key and abandon your team, leaving me with an opportunity to down the injured Nea and hook her.

On behalf of your team, I have but one thing to say. Thank you for your bold sacrifice. Your altruism knows no bounds. We applaud your skill and cunning. Best wishes~

If you'd have let me boop your snoot... I'd have stayed. But NOOOOO you try to attack me when I tried every time! I'd have used the key earlier if the hatch spawned. Learn pig etiquette 🤓

Mods have already explained it: The Survivors can be punished if they are holding the game up for an extremely long time by spending all their time hiding and making zero effort to do gens (provided that the Killer is actually making an effort to find them).

This only applies if by some miracle survivors can not be found after an EXTREMELY long period 1+hrs. If survivors are just hiding, any half decent killer will find them in much less time.

    @Alice_pbg said:

that's called keeping the game hostage, so yes.

No. It is not. Keeping the game hostage is ensuring there is no was for a game to finish (ie: 1 survivor remains and killer body blocks them in an area before the hatch is closed causing no way to progress unless the killer attacks you and he doesn't).

Players will not be punished for playing immersive instead of gen aggressive.

There is no way you know they did nothing.

'Bond' will show only if you're close.

'Aftercare' could show everyone... But only if they've been hooked, healed or healed you.

'Empathy' could show you everyone but only if they're ALL injured which would disprove the claim they're sneaking around well enough to stop game progress entirely.

So it seems they were not as gen aggro as you, you then died from being careless and being found over and over, and now you want players with a smarter strategy banned. Correct?

You do understand that Trapper was originally a stand in for Jason until they could get the license (before the lawsuit drama) just as Billy was a stand in for Leatherface and in my opinion even wraith was a loose stand in for Freddy. Jason is the only big icon still missing and they legit modeled their FIRST killer after him. I think they're fans enough to take him if possible.

Picking up survivors and dropping them until they escape and kicking gens is not progressing the game, that's holding it hostage.

They can definitely win lol. Do separate gens... He can't interrupt 2 at once. Plus he CAN'T kick a gen if you're working on it. So even if he's repeatedly grabbing 1 off a gen and dribbling them then when you wiggle free start the gen. Meanwhile teammate 2 is doing the other gens uninterrupted.

It's literally impossible for killer to hold the game hostage with 2 survivors alive. You'll either bleed out, die from hooks, or finish gens. That's why egc happens when 1 survivor remains and hatch is closed. That's the ONLY time a killer could stop all progress.

The wait times have been increasing exponentially and that's a fact

Actually on PS5 I've been able to get into cross play matches in under 30 seconds on both sides for about a week.

So yeah, must be an issue amongst elitist PC players that believe there's a skill gap rather than a play style difference.

When cross play started I thought all pc players were just worse than console. But I've noticed they've both been playing very differently up until cross play, so because pc played different than me I assumed they were bad. But it's just different styles.

Oh, then i will tell you which killers =)

Nurse, Wraith, Hag, Blight, Spirit, Twins.

Ummm Billy and Oni have far more mobility than wraith, twins and definitely spirit.

  • Hag. Hands down. Never played against a hag that didn't just use unhook traps to tunnel out at least 1 survivor early... Which is definitely a valid tactic but it seems sweaty from a killer with sooooo many creative ways to win.

I'll tunnel somebody early if I'm playing a weaker killer and the survivors seem coordinated. But with a killer as potentially strong as Hag it's sweaty IMO.

  • It only says killer is facing you, not which direction they are. Moon walk a bit and try NOT running at them from the most obvious place. Most times their spine chill will prock and they'll walk right towards you if you don't approach from the most obvious angle. So YES Myers and GF are still not bad off if you learn to be creative on approach.

  • Lol spine chill has not changed. How is it being compared to a perk that allowed you to see the killer any time?

I'm a killer main and I laugh at all the calls for nerfs since DS. Now spine chill 🤣... Maybe just don't stare directly where you're trying to stealth to?

Getting downed. Get an item put on your head. Arbitrary mechanic that can be modified significantly with no information communicated. Can't get it off because you get tunnelled by a bad killer. Great starting experience. It's something that only works on new players too. It's like people running sweaty skill check Doctor builds. Only works on new players that can't handle skill checks or console players with frame rate issues.

Don't waste time removing it! That's the idea. If you jump right back on a gen you deserve to die in the RBT manner. No decent pig player is going to waste the time camping you while you attempt to remove it. Otherwise they lose. They use the time you are busy by pressuring others. Even with tampered timer and annotated plan, you can ALWAYS remove traps if you don't jump on a gen then cry when your head splits.

P.s. traps don't even activate til a gen is done. Only players that wait to notice the timer is faster get killed. But just as I said; don't mess around it's anti gen-rush at best.

So this game is "balanced" as a swf vs a killer so all arguments about survivor sidedness only apply to swf not brain dead solo queue. Also, some of the most prevalent killer mains in this community have said recently that there is a certain pig combo of addons that needs something done about it because it will kill at least 1 person in a game without you doing anything past giving them their first hat and is unbalanced. Otzdarva literally has a whole video on why its broken and needs adjustment and he's better than 99% of the killer mains that post on this forum.

There is a certain wraith add-on combo that will guarantee a 3k... A certain spirit add-on combo that guarantee at least a 3k.

It's just like saying a bnp + Commodius box is unfair bc this add-on combo guarantees a done gen (unless you're just not good, then all add-on arguments are null🤤)

Pig is an extremely boring and unfair killer for new people playing the game. Most of the time people get their first trap and are then tunnelled out of the game. She should be limited to force you to go to three boxes max.

Every killer is "boring and unfair" to new players for one mechanic or another. But those are the killer's unique abilities. If newer players can't be bothered to learn the nuance's of the unique killer abilities than they probably should play a single player game.

You know what'll be truly boring? Having every killer being m1 with no reason to learn anything but running loops and tbagging.

There are no windows in exit gates which is where my latest terrible experience with cannibal happened. I also feel like I have to always be near windows or pallets playing against cannibal or there is no chance for me to escape. At the very least cannibal should have to build up to an instant down power and it should be temporary each time. I don't think that is being unreasonable or unfair.

I just got a 4k with death slinger with noed all because 2 survivors wanted to meme at the gates. Way more op than bubba lol

Yea being passive aggressive isn't the best way to invite a newcomer into a series. I've been playing RE games since day one and I still would love Lady D as a killer, etc.

Turns out I was just being honest after all... All 3 are from the classics re2 and re3. These games really are iconic for a reason. Re7 was good in a lot of ways but not revolutionary to the horror genre like the classics.

That's the thing... Your not "stuck" by any means. You'll get out 60-80% faster, with decent BP.

If your time to play is that limited, I can't wait to read the novel you post after dealing with a hostage game that lasts an HR. Also if you allotted less time to complaining about fast free bp you could play more....

  • If 3 of you are hooked... The killer is camping successfully. The survivor that's alive is doing the smart thing and not handing the 4th kill for free. Maybe be less altruistic. IMO the 4th survivor was probably the most experienced.

He probably has a post complaining about crappy survivors rewarding camping killers instead of pushing gens and punishing him.

  • I think Deathslinger was meant to be the creeper (that's also when the loading logo changed to the icon that looks exactly like his throwing star from JC 2). Then that scandal unfolded and he was abruptly changed.

You do understand you can't teleport? You're in certain part of map doing gen he pops his tier from random surv and comes to you and what u gonna do about it? There's no locker in 70% map at one loop there's only 1 pallet which u can't greed too much because of how fast he gets in tier 3 all of the things u mentioned are very situational no add on should allow u to just kill survivor out just like that I understand it makes him lose gen pressure but maybe they didn't need to make such a broken add on that punishes both surv and killer most killers just depip doing tombstone

He popped T3 because of you... If he comes after you and you are not near any vaults/pallets/lockers then he got the final stalk from you. You just didn't notice until it popped and alerted you. He didn't get it off of a "random potato" just to come for you lol.

Use spine chill. Then you won't feed him stalk.

Tombstone piece the one he can mori you immediately with

He can instant Mori with both. Tombstone piece immediately resets his T3 to 2 so he has to stalk again after a Mori. Judith's Tombstone allows him to Mori until his T3 runs out (which is almost always used with fragrant tuft to give infinite T3). It takes so much extra stalking and slows you significantly however. If survivors get mori'd they really messed up because getting all 5 gens done should not be hard before he gets tier 3 if you don't just stand there and allow him to stalk you...

  • So... You win as survivor even with no good teammates, but lose as killer because of non existent Jupiter size hitboxes? I think you may have not proofread your post.

  • That's really the appeal of the perk though. If it didn't make you invincible it would be the worst exhaustion perk. They'd have to make the dash 2 to 3 times the distance to be worth using. Honestly it makes me laugh thinking of how many hatchets would hit😂. Without the invincibility it would almost guarantee hatchets because you'd cross like 3 hit box areas in one motion.

It will still kill survivors during egc, it just has to be placed before the last gen finishes. When the last gen finishes, it'll activate, and in some games that causes a lot of chaos. Especially if a survivor (or killer😈) opens the gate quickly.

how is this even close to winnable? and by win I mean getting a kill, what with the body blocking and all. I did get my BBQ stacks, but that pretty much it. I admit that I used the Haddonfield offering, but the match right before had three 20s and a 12. I might have wanted to spice it up, but not like THAT!

EDIT to add: Not hating on the red ranks here, they didn't know that the matchmaker had borked up this bad. They're probably nice people.

    Did you burn for Haddonfield?!?

The match making probably assumed you wanted to lose so it just helped you speed it up...

You should have bought a pc instead of a ps5, and you are even complaining that keyboard/mouse wont work anytime soon, i mean, u knew it so thats what you get

Easy there Dunson, without us console players your wait times would be 35% longer in lobby.

If a developer decides to make a title crossplay with a competitive fan base, they need to offer equal tools. You can adapt a controller to your pc... But if a ps4/xbox one player uses third party adapters for m&k they either deal with "modding" consequences or the 3rd party software is hot patched out immediately.

The DC penalty shouldn't exist at all unless it happens excessively (5 or more times in a row maybe). Apart from connection issues, we shouldn't be punished for not wanting to play a match we don't want to. I've had matches where killers left me or others on the ground for an entire bleed out just to be toxic. I shouldn't receive a penalty for leaving a match like that.

Lol. Then play a single player game. If you're part of a group of people, it's not just about what you want. I think the penalty should stack much faster if people do it consecutively. 3 in a row should be a multiple hour ban.

It was only a match but it was really a crazy match, put yourself in my shoes, what you would if you was at the exit door and there was a bloodwarden who blocked it for an entire minute and the killer was near?, hide isn't a choice you can do fast.

If someone is downed wait til they are hooked before opening the gate... Never open the gate right before someone gets hooked. Leave it 99% until you ARE SURE nobody is down. When you're ready, open it and GO! Easiest counter.

Noed should be nerfed to where it isn’t a totem and only 2 survivors are downed after being hit after that the exposed status goes away....bad killers shouldn’t be awarded.

    Ummm 🤔 no...

    My turn 😏 nerf adrenaline.

This is like Go Fish. Your turn.
