For the same reason you see people relentlessly defend their right to play however they want even if it's an "unpopular" or "unfun" way, then doing a 180 and uncontrollably seething the microsecond their opponent(s) do the exact same thing.
People aren't perfectly rational, they don't always consider (or even care) if they seem like gigantic hypocrites. If they did you wouldn't see megamind stuff like people running the strongest possible setups they can crying about the opposition doing the same.

It was actually at 5 gens. I'd like to see the rules that state it as a reportable offense because to my knowledge it's only reportable to do so if it holds the game hostage or is a survivor griefing another survivor.
I can't find the original post itself, but this post here has screenshots where mods explain it from another thread.

So you blocked them from 3 gens (or earlier) until the end, am I seeing that right?
Because it has been explained several times on this very forum in fact that doing that is indeed a reportable offense. Doing it after EGC has started is one thing, doing it earlier is different.
-
I'm glad that clearly there's not 4 survivors doing seperate gens.

Already available to SWF and hell, technically even available to all PC players if everyone suddenly started sharing everything they're bringing in in the pre-game chat. So it only seems fair to make it available to everyone.

The game is not designed to have voice chat, it is cheating. You can type furiously all you want about blah blah blah. Voice chat should be a bannable offence if the Devs are not going to actually balance the game around it.
The whole point is that it's quite simply not an option, full stop. Both because you'd have a hard time finding a dev willing to take their game off several platforms for a reason like that, and because it's technically impossible to actually stop or even detect it in a way people can't easily circumvent on PC.
And I do agree they should balance around it, in the only way I can imagine them ever considering for even a fraction of a second - that good old "buff base/solo survivor and killer". And no, I don't know the perfect way to do that either (I highly doubt a perfect way exists), but it's at least a direction with a non-zero probability of ever being explored by the developers.

Not my problem its the devs team problem to stomp cheating at this game out.
It's very clearly not their problem when they've explicitly stated countless time that it's not in any way against the rules.
And of course it isn't. No sane developer in 2021 would even consider trying to stop it, even if they wanted to. They'd have to stop offering their game on consoles (this on its own should make it clear it's more likely we get pulverized by an asteroid tomorrow than them ever even considering it), and anything they tried would be a hilarious waste of resources and dev time on PC.
-
Their stance on what you're talking about is that it's against the rules, and they should be reported. When it comes to chat-based offenses I'm pretty sure a simple in-game report is all that's needed too, unlike other rule violations where additional proof must be provided by the one doing the reporting.
Anything outside of DBD (Steam comments, console messages, twitch chats and whatever else) isn't any of BHVR's business, and should be reported on the platform in question. Your mileage may vary of course, as different platforms can have very different standards.

I don't play on any Linux-based systems, but +1 to this.
I have friends that have told me about how anticheats might just not work on your systems, or they really don't like Proton, Wine and that sorta stuff. Cool of Epic to improve the situation for EAC, hopefully DBD pounces on this ๐๏ธ
-
They probably hop in the queue and then either tab out to read/watch something, look at their phone or something else like that.
Source: I sometimes hop into queue, tab out and tab back in when I hear the match starting because I tend to forget to check if I got into a lobby ๐

If anything actually blew me away it was honestly BHVR saying they'll give us actual values for add-ons and whatever else instead of the slightly-tremendously scale. It just seemed like something that would never happen or was so low on the priority list that it'd happen in 2031 or something.
So I'm excited to see that expanded to everything. Add-ons, items, perks, offerings - anywhere the slightly-tremendously language is used.
Of course the information is already accessible by going to a wiki or something, but having it in game just sounds ๐ for everyone and especially for new players.
-
Map offerings shouldn't exist at all if you ask me, as even now when they're narrowed down to a single quality level (unlike when we had common, uncommon and rare ones) they're bloodweb clutter at best and annoying when used at worst.
-
If it stops being fun for me. Hasn't happened yet and don't really know what would have that effect, so I doubt they'll manage to make me stop ๐
-
I honestly haven't noticed that much of a difference besides the bad matches being worse and the good matches being better. It's still very random no matter if I play solo, duo or killer (the only ways I've really played for over a year at this point).
Do keep in mind I probably have a mindset that means a lot of the matches I consider good, many others would probably consider sweaty torture or something. Side effect of being involved in competitive gaming for like 15 years before I could no longer find the time for it in my life I guess.
-
Teleport people that disconnect in general onto a basement hook instead of making them fall flat instantly. They're immediately "rushed" through their remaining hook states and can't be interacted with in any way, so even if someone's waiting for them in the basement or something they can't be saved. Makes the hatch open like it would if they were hooked, and also gives the killer proper hook credit for disconnects at any point in the match.
Anything that makes the hatch disappear or close just opens up for survivors to grief other survivors.
-
About 6 months in 2019.
No particular reason besides me forgetting that if I play any game too much, I get horribly burnt out on it. And I played DBD a lot back then, on top of barely playing anything else. I'm straight up incapable of "maining" a game, I need to bounce between 3-6 different games it seems.
-
She was bugged, some might not even know it's fixed and others might have found another killer they enjoy during that.
And part of it is probably also the usual overreaction that happens with any nerf, in this case the Stridor change. Just like when DS was changed it got less common for a while in my experience, some see a single change that can be called a nerf and declares whatever it touched to be dead and useless.
-
Words like toxic, sweaty, tryhard and whatever else are so lacking in anything resembling a definitive definition that there will be some confusion and weird moments. Two people can discuss toxicity, and while one of them reserves the word for people dishing out slurs in post-game chat like candy on halloween, the other might think merely equipping Dead Hard or playing Spirit is toxic.
And same for sweaty/tryhard. Some reserve it for "That Guy", the player that both tries hard to win and acts like a tiny baby the moment their opponent(s) dare to do the same. Someone else might not hesitate for a second to shame players for running the wrong perks, playing the wrong killer or whatever else.
And yes, a lot of the time very "loose" definitions of terms like these are indeed part of the "If I didn't get beat the right way, I didn't really lose!" process. Which is something I'm sure everyone has done at some point, but it gets old real quick.

Yeah, when i play killer i never get gg's if i get a 4k but if it's three escapes or more they have the audacity to say "gg wp".
If they escape, they're actually there when the match ends.
If they're dead, they might have gone back to the main menu and re-queued, spend bloodpoints or whatever else. Not everyone waits until the end of the match, not even everyone in SWF does.
Meanwhile the killer is always there at the end of the game, as it's not like they can die.
-
I have fun doing it, that's my incentive just like it always has been.
Don't really have any deeper explanation than that to be honest.
-
Clown, the twirly spin combined with his laugh makes for a great feel. Add STBFL to see it get faster and faster and it only gets better.
Honorable mention to Nemesis as well, just straight up punching everything is also pretty neat.
-
I have seen 2 cheaters way back get shiny new game bans (permabans) on their Steam profiles a while after reporting them.
I've seen someone that went absolutely nuclear and forced a racial slur, transphobic slur and death threat into a single sentence upload a screenshot of their ban to Steam while calling BHVR a "SJW company" in the screenshot description ๐คฎ
I do believe people get punished, but I'd really like a message that pops up saying "Hey, someone you reported got punished. Thanks for the help!" in-game like in many other games. It would improve trust in the system a LOT.
-
If the devs ever decide to seriously go for the whole "close the gap" between solo and SWF, something like that will eventually have to happen. Or a comm wheel + context sensitive status button so people can do quick communication like "I'm being chased" and "I'm going for the save". Increased efficiency that can be reasonably assumed to be accessible by all survivors that can be balanced around.
Maybe in 2072, when the last person clinging to the honestly delusional pipe dream that is direct mechanical nerfs to SWF finally wakes up or quits for good ๐
-
No matter how it ends it's practically undeniable you turbo-carried that match, so I'd feel pretty good about that.

what if they just made it so you can't just change the windowsnoeditor file??? it shouldn't be able to be changed by users...
That has nothing to do with stretched. DBD takes your desktop resolution and runs with it without asking any questions, no matter if that's a still "real resolution" with a different aspect ratio (like 1920x1080 -> 1280x800) or some absolutely cursed abomination of a resolution like 400x1200. DBD will take it, stretch it to fill the screen and run with it no matter what.
-
Stretched is something that can only be fixed, if you want to see people get banned for it you'll forever be disappointed.
-
When you're dealing with a game people play for hundreds if not thousands of hours, the best you can really do is a horror atmosphere. It's as simple as that, try playing the scariest singleplayer game you know for that amount of time and it will be a very very different experience too. What you're talking about is in no way something exclusive to SWF.
And you're right, they'll never ever restrict SWF in the way you're talking about. The only approach with a non-zero probability of even being considered by them for a second is making the game "less scary", by bringing solo closer to SWF and balancing around that. It's the only approach compatible with what is honestly industry level standards for modern multiplayer games that couldn't care less about an individual genre or game's balance challenges. All they can possibly do is balance around it.
Or just leave it as it is, lets not forget that's clearly a valid option as well as it has worked so far.
-
Don't know who's more powerful, pizza box PH or traffic cone PH. I'll take either however.
-
If you have both Bond and Kindred I'd put on Open Handed every time. Already pretty fun if it just buffs one aura perk, when you have those two it's very entertaining.
-
It should simply take a survivor as long to "revv up" a kicked gen as it takes a killer to kick it at base, perhaps a little bit longer. It just feels right, is a rather minimalist change and it's just how it should be if you ask me. So this option is pretty much what I want.
No gigantic balance implications or anything, it just feels right ๐
-
If they're approaching but running away that probably still counts as trying to do a gen, as I'd assume if one of them actually gets chased the other would hop on a gen. Not really any different to the killer not taking the bait and staying by the gens.
Not exactly fun for anyone involved, and in my experience very rare as it usually doesn't take long for one side, the other or both to get bored.
-
Really no reason not to do it if it's possible, as long as people can hide it if they want.
-
I'd pinch myself to wake up because attempting to directly nerf SWF is not something that has a non-zero probability of ever happening.
-
If you mean after the game, that has always been a thing.
If you mean before the game, that's either a bug or some kind of weird cheat.
At the end of the day no profiles or SteamIDs should be available whatsoever in any way unless people manually look them up (which can't be stopped unless people use hyper-generic names like "Bob" or something on Steam)

Well, as expected, the Survivors I speak of flood into the thread, ready to defend their territory.
Let's keep watching the posts. They will use all of the same lines from the same script we already know. It will amuse the small audience this thread was speaking out to.
"Defend their territory" jesus christ.
Quit the game, go play a "real pvp" game. For your own good, if you genuinely and unironically feel like your posts make it seem like about the game.
-
Considering BHVR says you don't need any proof beyond just reporting in-game for chat-based rule violations, I'd imagine they have some sort of way to figure out who says what. Presumably and hopefully on a non-spoofable ID basis, no matter if that's the in-game ID string or one of the persistent steamIDs like steamID32 / steamID64.
So you should be fine. A perfect example of why the rule against naming and shaming exists though, as it's so easy to straight up fabricate evidence that might not convince BHVR, but it can certainly convince random people more than it should.
-
I just find them boring more than anything. Besides sabo they just let you do something faster, and sabo is extremely situational.
Medkits both let you heal others faster and heal yourself without a perk, while something like flashlights, maps and keys all let you do stuff that's normally not available to you whatsoever.
-
Personally I just pretend they didn't say anything whatsoever if someone says gen rush with no further explanation.
You never know if that means a genuine gens-before-friends team with juiced out toolboxes or someone that quite simply messed up and they're mad they went against survivors that qualify as sentient life forms that slammed gens when the killer camped or something, or somewhere inbetween. Just like any other term like camping, where you have no idea if that means it was a killer standing in front of them until they were dead or a killer that just chased some absolute idiot that thought it was a brilliant idea to loop around the hook.
-
As I'm not capable of mind control or hypnosis I can't really do anything about what players completely unrelated to me decides to do no.
-
Killers should see stuff like the survivors at the campfire and the items in their hands, this is completely intentional and there's perks that make a whole lot less sense if they can't be used as "counter" perks.
No one should have access to profiles or even names in my opinion, at least not until after the match. And yes, that includes survivors seeing the names of other survivors. In my opinion simple 2-click access to profiles shouldn't even be a thing there, there would most likely be way less angry profile comments or whatever if people actually had to go out of their way to try to manually find the profile from the name - most people quite simply wouldn't bother doing so.
Also leads to this megamind thing where people make assumptions about private/friends only profiles. Because clearly there's no other reason than DBD to have a profile like that, not like friends only or private is the default for most parts of Steam profiles or anything ๐
Obviously this is all from a PC/Steam perspective, I'm not aware of how all of this works on console.

it actually is a solid way to occupy the hands or to pass the time, I used to use hearthstone and lobby dodging (and boots before servers) while mostly paying attention to the tv in attempts to deter some of the swf players from grouping up together. It actually kind of is a good way to spend some of the time when you're only able or willing to put about 5% of your attention span into it at best. It's either that or smoking, eating, beatboxing or fapping to keep the hands busy.
I rarely even notice that the killer leaves the lobby (or more accurately, is replaced by another before I have the chance to notice) when I play survivor so I doubt that's doing a whole lot.

Either average, or the highest MMR in the party. One of those, no clue which one.
-
I enjoy the rapid development of the "I've had enough" cinematic universe.
-
Damn we really do live in an Entity...
-
I'm overall happy with the game as I can launch it and play whenever and have fun with it. I'm not even someone that buys a lot of cosmetics in the first place to be fair, an outfit or outfit piece really has to make me go "Hey, I really like the look of that" to make me want to buy it.
This doesn't mean I'm ignorant of objectively problematic things (like performance issues people experience, especially on different platforms or with a weaker system than mine) or that there's a lot of other stuff people aren't happy with. But I'm happy with the game, so I'll keep playing it and if they make something that hits the mark when it comes to appealing to my rather picky taste for cosmetics and such I won't hesitate with picking it up.
-
The naming and shaming rule isn't necessarily there to protect actually guilty people, but to prevent false accusations or people getting harassed for doing stuff that isn't even against the rules but a lot of people consider bad behavior.
And believe me, if someone really wanted to it wouldn't be hard at all to straight up fabricate evidence of just about anyone cheating or hurling slurs around in post-game chat, or any other commonly considered unforgivable offense. Sure a lot of people will take it with a grain of salt and you know, not go to their profile and give them death threats or something similarly vile and gross. But some will, especially if the "target" is a well-known figure - people that already dislike them for whatever reason might be more than happy to both believe it and spread it.
EDIT: And actually yeah, it's also to protect actually guilty people. Dunno if this is some sort of controversial opinion (sometimes feels like it in gaming), but even if someone is caught red handed cheating their heart out, they still don't deserve death threats or slur-filled harassment blotting out the sun on their profiles or in their inboxes.
-
As long as it's exclusively focused on ending already decided matches being dragged out, sure.
By that I mean, if the gates are open the killer should have a lever in the basement or something that immediately ejects all remaining survivors. This is a forfeit option, so this also makes downed and hooked survivors escape - it's exclusively there if someone doesn't want to go chase the survivors out and they're refusing to leave until 0.000000152 seconds is left of EGC.
And on the survivor side, if all survivors are incapacitated (dead, slugged or hooked) either a vote or the ability to teleport themselves onto a basement hook after a certain amount of time should be available. No, they don't get to attempt to kobe or anything, they're "rushed" through the sacrifice stages like when the last survivor is hooked, and they can't be unhooked even with some megamind unbreakable play in the basement. The moment they use it, they're already dead. It's a forfeit option for when the killer either can't find them or decided it would be heckin epic to follow a slug around and nod at them for 4 minutes.
And this is coming from someone who has absolutely no problems with chasing people out or just watching a youtube video in situations like this.
-
I pretty much always have it or Bond, and it's Kindred more often than Bond. So that's a yes.
-
I dunno if it counts but I usually just look up and hold E or Q, which are bound to turn right/turn left respectively. I just do it because I think it looks funny when others do it, but I'm sure some might view it as some sort of BM.
Doesn't matter if it's after hooking the last survivor or after I've chased survivors out of the gate either, I'll still do my little spin.
