  • Kinda hard to react to anything in the lobby when I just start the queue and don't tab back into the game until I hear the match starting πŸ˜„

  • I'd love if they used something like it (could be with much easier skillchecks where the point is to simply keep a rhytm going more than anything) for wiggling. Would be a cool and different thing to add to BNPs as well, not necessarily aiming to change how strong the add-on is but just to give it something unique because I really like the yellow glyph checks too πŸ˜„

  • That's nothing, I've seen someone asking how to change their res from 1920x1080 to 1280x720 get pounced and called a cheater!

... when both are 16:9 resolutions and there would be absolutely no stretching, the only difference would be lower graphical fidelity and improved performance πŸ€”

  • For the first point that's open to another form of abuse, where a survivor can DC to prevent another survivor from getting the hatch. And we all know the absolutely ascended and stupid """reasons""" people invent to be able to say a survivor didn't deserve to escape or a killer didn't deserve a kill in DBD. Oh, the last survivor looked for hatch instead of suicidally rushing another survivor on the hook after seeing the Leatherface isn't leaving? DC to deny them the hatch for being a "coward" (also known as: having a pair of functional eyes and a functioning brain in such a situation)

I'd much rather just make it so there's less of a difference between hooking someone and them DCing. Teleport them onto a basement hook and start the sacrifice process, it's not perfect but it screws the killer over less than the current system (not instant + full credit for hook and any potential stacks/tokens related to it) and less open to survivor-on-survivor abuse than your idea. Additionally make hatch escapes less punishing or not punishing at all emblem/BP-wise to alleviate that source of frustration. As well as making DCs count as sacrifices/mori kills for any achievements/challenges/dailies that demand them.

I actually like the second point, would make actually finding the hatch a bit more interesting when you know you'll actually have to look for it and it won't pop up right in front of you. Obviously gotta fix that weird thing where the hatch has collision and can be detected before it even spawns as well, and would probably require further changes as the very existence of that bug/weird "feature" shows that the hatch location is decided long before it ever spawns at the moment.

  • 4 minutes / 240 seconds.

EDIT: Lol, very similar answers there πŸ˜„

What makes you think they're not having fun? Some have fun by using meme builds and messing around with people as both killer and survivors, others have fun trying to win as decisively as possible, and most are somewhere inbetween.

So you agree, there's a flaw in survivor design. That's part of my point, of course looping is part of the gameplay but if you don't play normal levels on killer it's hard to really see what i mean i guess

Not exactly, I simply agree that there's some structures and map rng setups that are stupid. House of Pain on Haddonfield/Badham and crazy strings of tiles like long wall jungle gym with the window facing shack window with a long pallet and cow tree on the other side. Completely insane setup randomly placed on the map.

But my whole point is that none of that is the survivor's fault, and blaming them for using something the game gave them isn't the way to go at all. And that's how it seems when your title is "nothing but toxic survivors" and you don't mention anything else than players simply using the resources the map gave them with zero input on their part in the map's generation.

  • Yeah if you think survivors basically playing too well is toxic then of course you'll find most survivors toxic. Looping is a part of survivor gameplay, why wouldn't they try to get the most out of a tile if they can get away with it? There's some stupid spots/tiles and combinations of tiles on some maps for sure but that's not the survivor's fault.

If your particular frustrations should be focused anywhere it should be on the game itself and not survivors. It makes no more sense than someone that thinks Spirit or something is too strong tearing into killers for simply playing her instead of discussing the killer's design itself. That does happen as well, and I'd call people doing that out for horribly misplaced blame too.

  • Not reportable, just a pointless waste of time assuming there's no tactical reason to do so (like a hook deadzone, even unlikely stuff like flip-flop isn't really relevant if the survivor is near a hook and not on a pallet for power struggle)

And I really hope the player that did it has never complained about survivors waiting until the last yoctosecond of EGC to leave, as besides the fact that the killer can actually speed that up by chasing them out it's pretty much the exact same thing if you ask me. A pointless waste of time for everyone involved.

Given how many people use stretched resolution and shaders to get an advantage in game...

I think its A LOT MORE then you'd think.

The amount of people willing to change their desktop resolution before launching the game or using an application made by the people behind their GPU driver is gonna be way higher than the amount of people willing to actually make changes to the game's install directory.

Especially when BHVR has done their best to make it clear that all file modification is in a greyzone where if they get banned they're screwed with no chance of appeal, no matter how likely or unlikely it is that they'll ever get "caught" for it.

  • The "moonwalk" you can do where you swish your body back and forth in a spine-breaking display while crawling backwards is a fine alternative in my book πŸ˜„

  • If you ask me stuff that can't give an advantage whatsoever like custom perk icons/selection screen portraits should be whitelisted. Put them in their own folder or something that is explicitly allowed to modify, and make sure nothing non-cosmetic can be changed by messing around with the files in there.

But I totally understand why they don't want anything else, and I don't really blame them if they decide to just amputate the entire hand instead of figuring out exactly which fingers to get rid of, to put it that way. Modifying anything else than cosmetic icons and still images for menus can be used for everything from some meme shirt for Dwight to glow in the dark neon pink traps and survivor outfits and it's a massive pain to try to selectively block/ban the bad stuff while allowing the harmless stuff.

  • It's quite simply not realistic to try to enforce certain aspect ratios or resolutions with how DBD works, where it takes desktop res and uses it without asking any questions. If it's not possible to change the game itself in a way that eliminates the "stretched" effect, best that can be done is making the LOS blockers in tiles where LOS is supposed to be blocked so high that it's not realistic to look over it in any way whatsoever.

And if you're using your native resolution, it's absurd to blame you for any effects that might have if it's an unusual res/aspect ratio.

There's certainly some ignorance and/or lack of knowledge surrounding the subject, I've seen someone ask how to change from 1920x1080 to 1280x720 just to be pounced by people calling them a cheater... when both are 16:9 resolutions and there would be absolutely no stretch effect whatsoever as aspect ratio is what causes it in the first place.

Yes, because it's cheating. You claiming a Killer should not try for the 4K or, the usual Survivor BS 'Be happy with the 3K' is beside the point.

The hatch should not open, if the DC would open it. The remaining Survivors will need a key, or need to pop a gen. That simple; DC can't open hatch.

That just opens for an entirely new way for survivors to screw other survivors over though.

The last survivor didn't try to save them when it's a bad move to even try to do so in every way imaginable? DC so they can't get hatch. Last survivor had absolutely no influence on the disconnecting survivor's decision and isn't responsible for it whatsoever, the only way they can possibly safeguard themselves from that happening is to never play survivor outside of a 4man SWF again.

  • Obviously not, as when DC penalties are enabled they get timed out for it.

When someone disconnects at any point in the match, just teleport them onto a basement hook and starts being sacrificed as if they're the last survivor (they "rush" through the remaining hook stages). Hatch no longer opens instantly, killers gets hook credit for it, and also doesn't open for survivors to grief other survivors in new ways by DCing like preventing the hatch from opening at all in the case of a DC would do.

  • If you want to avoid maps you don't want, use a map offering for a map you do want or you're at least okay with?

Of course you can't do this every game unless you have a gigantic stockpile (rarity loses all meaning if you pump your main(s) full until you have to cram the BP down their throat afterall), but that's because you're not supposed to in the first place.

It sucks to get that one map you really didn't want, but DBD is full of random stuff that can help you or screw you. From the map you end up on to gate spawns, and everything random inbetween like tile placement/distribution and whatever else.

  • I'll never understand disconnects when someone is being carried to their last hook (or even after they're put on it), and people disconnecting when the gates open (or the most confusing of all, after the last survivor escapes but before the match fully ends).

You're potentially seconds away from the match being over without any disconnecting, just wait a tiny bit longer lmao.

  • That's one exceptionally built David right there. Nice drawing.

  • It's probably a better idea to change maps instead. If an object or tile is supposed to be tall enough to offer LOS blockage and concealment, make it so tall that looking over it in any way is no longer feasible in any way.

No need to do stuff that would probably be unpopular then, like forcing certain aspect ratios that might screw over those with non-16:9 monitors. And at that point they can add actual in-game resolution selection, so someone can change from 1920x1080 to 1280x720 without messing with desktop res. And that change causes no stretching whatsoever as they're both 16:9, it's nothing but trading visual quality for better performance. Switching to and between more common laptop aspect ratios like 16:10 and 3:2 would probably only cause very minor stretching as well, as it's when you start heading more towards 1:1 aspect ratio the stretching gets really noticable.

EDIT: And oh, there's ultrawide too. I honestly have no idea how DBD handles them, like 21:9 aspect ratio and all of that.

  • Because I don't go against that kind of survivors very often at all, and if I do at least for me it's whatever, I'll just do my best and I still enjoy the game more when I play a variety of killers. If I stuck to a small selection I'd probably get burnt out on killer just like I'd get burnt out on survivor if I ran the same 4 perks every match.

This is subjective of course, and if that makes me a casual player or something that's fine with me. I enjoy the game so I'm not complaining there.

  • Why bother doing that when you can just claim anyone that disagrees with you is lying?

No one would ever SERIOUSLY disagree with me afterall! They must be trolling or doing some disinfo agent stuff in the service of <group I don't agree with>.

  • When it comes to SWFs there's a pretty obvious reason why if one of them is a jerk, the rest will probably be jerks too. If you're a player that doesn't like doing that kind of thing, it's quite simply unfun and honestly pretty cringy to play with someone like that.

Believe me, I've unknowingly played with someone that seemed like a cool and chill person in the past, then they turned out to be an obnoxious crybaby that also expected me to automatically take their side just because I'm playing with them. As a result, I stopped playing with them. I'm sure there's some people out there that almost exclusively consider people's skill level when they decide if they want to play with them or not and they're willing to put up with just about anything to win, but the overwhelming majority wants to play with likeminded people that don't get on their nerves.

  • I personally have more fun doing so, that's my reason.

  • It shouldn't stop, it should evolve to a more civilized form.

The truly ascended form of solo-to-solo communication, morse code communication via flashlight.

  • I honestly don't think anything even gets close to release Legion.

  • Quit? No.

Take a break? A few times. No particular event, addition or removal of something from the game itself. I just burn out on games and need a break at times.

  • I don't really care, as it makes sense that an experienced survivor is willing to do stuff like use health states as a resource and such. It's simply part of the game and there's times and places where it's the right play, and times and places where it's not.

EDIT: And oh, didn't see the "killer ONLY" in the title. I'm by no means killer only, as playing either side exclusively would've probably made me burn out on the game at least 2000 hours ago πŸ˜„

  • I don't see how it's a waste of a cake when every cake pretty much lets me get another one. That's not a waste of cake, that's an indirect Bloodhunt event without taking other cakes into account.

I know the pain of learning a new killer, all I'm saying is that I'm certainly not gonna stop using cakes.

  • That would involve interfering with party chat, which is something consoles quite simply don't allow game developers to do for any reason. So don't know how that would work.

And on PC there's several ways to circumvent it that all take less than 5-10 minutes to do.

NOED was so strong perk and it was meta. Specially after Nightmare chapter. I saw so many Remember Me + Blood Warden + NOED builds. And maybe NOED is not meta anymore but i am still seeing so much on high ranks. And i am sure NOED is still meta on low ranks.

I mean yeah it was certainly not a rare perk, but #3 in terms of use surprises me. But NOED is a general perk not tied to any killer and has been around since the start, which I'm sure helped it out in that regard.

  • It was removed because of instability and performance issues I'm pretty sure, particularly the current situation on certain consoles.

  • Out of all the stats they've ever released, these rank at the top of the "Don't try to attach any meaning to them that isn't there" list.

They're fun big number stats that were probably taken at the point where 1.5B escapes was reached. If there's anything that makes me do a big πŸ€” it's honestly NOED being the 3rd most used killer perk, I've played the game for all the years the stats were gathered from and I never found it that common at all.

  • I dunno if it's wishful thinking or what, but considering they already save a "snapshot" from a while back for people to use on the PTB, I'd imagine if someone is suddenly devotion 0 full reset and there's a PTB save file where they're devotion 7... surely they could roll back to that if everything else fails? I mean I'd certainly hope so.

  • Just do what I do, click ready up once you get in a lobby and don't look at the screen (tab out if on PC for example) until you hear the start-of-match-spin whoooom noise. If you never see the switch, did it really happen in the first place? πŸ™‚

  • I mean I'd probably just make it so it doesn't delete all sounds coming from the survivor once it's active. Pain noises are one thing, but the survivor suddenly no longer needing oxygen to survive until they get healed at which point they start breathing again is pretty silly.

Other than that, nothing to be honest.

EDIT: Wait, does IW actually remove breathing even while healthy? I've seen this mentioned sometimes and if that's the case that's even sillier.

  • If it's possible there really isn't any reason to not add it as long as there's a way to hide it for people that want to do so, if you ask me.

  • For me, it's Quentin. Or well, half of them.

It's the weirdest anecdotal experience I've ever had in a game, but every time a Quentin shows up in my lobby the Entity flips a coin or something. If tails, they're lost and confused. If heads, they're some of the hardest to deal with players out there. And part of that is exactly because they have unusual perks that catch me off guard.

Anything resembling an "average Quentin" almost seems like an endangered if not mythical creature in my personal experience. Maybe that will change once his face update goes live πŸ˜„

  • People do it because it often gets a reaction, that's the answer for any question that boils down to "why do people troll?"

  • Either save me, or don't. The "middle ground" of running near the hook and sitting there for a minute is not the play. And both are perfectly valid choices, I won't be mad if you leave me to die as long as you use the time for something useful.

  • It's too much and also bad if you like characters that have perks that either conflict with others you want, or are just undesirable.

Like David? Better not prestige him or you're locked into No Mither. Like Meg but also like Lithe? Good luck using Lithe with Sprint Burst basekit. Meanwhile Bill gets Borrowed Time + Unbreakable for free.

Hey, I would like that. Still would get Pop / BBQ even if survivor DC.

I have actually played against team, where they DC while being carried for dead hooks, so I didn't get pop and they won against 3-gen, because of that. It is really annoying.

Yeah, that's also a benefit as it actually gives the killer the hook as well.

Not too sure about the aura reading of BBQ as depending on if the aura radius centerpoint was the hook or the killer's actual location, weird things could happen. Like BBQ revealing a survivor hiding behind a wall 2 meters besides you because you're both 60 meters from the hook or something. But all sorts of stacks and tokens for sure.

  • You can at least kinda tell if Camaraderie activates as the sacrifice progress bar obviously freezes, but yeah for Deliverance it can suck.

PC players can at least tell others in pre-game chat but I'd prefer actually showing what perks other have. At the very least over their heads pre-game so people can see no matter their platform, and even in-game somewhere would be great.

  • If none of the more "advanced" ideas like husks, bots taking over or whatever else end up being implemented I'd honestly just teleport disconnected survivors onto a basement hook. Treat it as if the final survivor in the match is hooked, they immediately "rush" through all the stages and get sacrificed.

Not entirely sure how long that takes, but it's certainly somewhere in the 10-20 second region depending on how many times they had been hooked prior. And pretty much requires no new mechanics besides moving the disconnected survivor to a hook.

And certainly not a legit strategy, but it's not reportable. Because the DC penalty system is supposed to handle the punishment for all disconnects, and the devs have said many times that we should not report people for DCing - let the system handle it. Now we just need the DC penalty to be re-enabled lol

  • That would mean the game banned people for having the "wrong" desktop resolution, which is something I highly doubt any developer of a game on PC would want to do.

The best thing would obviously be if the way the game handled non-standard aspect ratios was changed in some way to give no possible advantages no matter how small or big.

If that fails and they still wanted to stop it, the "harshest" approach I can possibly imagine is something similar to how PUBG at one point quite simply refused to launch if it detected ReShade. So the game telling the player to change their resolution. And even that would most likely only trigger on truly bizarre resolutions like 1:1 aspect ratio ones (like 1080x1080) or ones close to it.

  • I'd say the average amount of cakes I see no matter what I play is somewhere around 3, which is pretty solid.

Survivors have a harder time running cakes constantly as they have more event quality items competing with them in event nodes in the bloodweb. Especially if we assume they're doing level 50 bloodwebs.

You're implying that people are just choosing not to switch.

Reminder that DBD is still not a complex game, PS4s can run games like Apex Legends perfectly fine and not chug whatsoever. The devs have YandereDev level coding skills.

    What is a SSD anyways?

    SSD = Solid State Drive.

Without getting into the technical details, they're a faster and more expensive alternative to more traditional hard drives that works in a different way.

    You'd be wrong.

What i actually expect the data to show, is that about 20% of the players want the game balanced around high level. Can you guess why that would be?

It's about 60-40 at the moment though. And last time someone did a poll on if people play more survivor or killer / are killer or survivor mains on the forums here the result was certainly not the 20-80 split one might expect if I remember correctly. While the sample size isn't huge, at the moment it certainly doesn't look as simple as "Killer = yes, survivor = no".

And it's very common for every activity human beings do for them to overestimate their own ability. It's not a killer or survivor thing in the slightest, it's an incredibly basic human thing and nothing for anyone to be ashamed of unless they're a jerk about it.

  • There would be some even crazier combos and within a few months at most people would still ask for 7 perks.

  • If they do use the authenticator I really hope they check their system for malware. Might be new scamming methods that have been discovered since I used to attract scammers (TF2 item trading), but back then the only way they could really get around the authenticator was by using malware to get their hands on the victim's authenticator backup/reset codes from the logged-in Steam client/session on the victim's computer.

Either way that sucks big time, and I hope they can at least get their account back. Accounts can be recovered (even though any steam inventory trades that might have happened are final and will not be rolled back), https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2347-qdfn-4366 is a good place to start and I know someone that managed to recover their account after they got hijacked and sent me very similar scam messages as a result of a similar "operation" a few years back thanks to the steps in that article.

And I always appreciate any post, article, thread or whatever else that brings awareness to Steam scams. It might be easy to look back and just say "just don't click the links lol" but especially the "hijack account, target people on their friends list" exploits the trust that possibly long-time friends might have between eachother ☹️

  • I feel it's a term that different people can have very different definitions of when they use it, to some extent like the term "toxic".

When I see the term I don't simply think of someone trying hard to win, I think of what is essentially the negative stereotype of "competitive gamer taking it way too far". Blaming their teammates for every tiny mistake while thinking they're perfect, the "worse than me = dumb noob, better than me = sad no-lifer or straight up cheater" mindset, often rampant hypocrisy where they will use everything at their disposal to win and then they turn around to cry their eyes out if their opponents do the same and defeat them. That is who I think of when I see the word tryhard. A more aggressive and unpleasant scrub.

Meanwhile someone else might think of something as simple as "someone that uses strong/meta stuff ever".

1 … 18 19 20 21 22 … 61
