  • Not really unless you change your location, either by actually going somewhere else or by using a VPN.

As survivor you can also let someone that lives somewhere else invite you to play swf with them. At least in my experience whenever I join my friend's lobby, we tend to be matched in his region and if he joins mine we get matched in my region. No clue if that's how it actually works but sure seems that way.

  • Matchmaking wants to match people that are located close to eachother together for low ping/latency. Getting people from the same city/town as you is honestly a pretty amazing result in that regard.

And it's a DBD thing as opposed to a Steam thing, as this combined with MMR matching is how DBD matches are set up on all platforms, including crossplay matches.

You can of course get people further away as well, as the game prefers actually getting you a match over keeping you waiting for far too long. But if it's possible, it will indeed try to find people reasonably close to you/the servers you're all connecting to.

It really wouldn't. No Bloodlust was very bad, but the game was still playable, give or take some near-infinites that could be heartily abussed. No exhaustion would make the game impossible. Infinite Dead Hard, infinite Sprint Burst. Infinite Head On if you want to be super cheeky and stunlock the killer for the whole game. There's nothing even to test here. The killer just flat out cannot catch anyone.

I assume "no exhaustion" means "no exhaustion perks" because yeah, no exhaustion status effect sounds completely crazy no matter how you cut it.

  • Record and report, sadly there might be no way out besides disconnecting if they're dedicated enough.

And good job in this thread so far guys, no galaxy brain "you must have done something to """deserve""" it!" posts so far 🙃

I don't believe you. No way. Did the devs really say voice chat on 3rd party apps is not cheating?

Of course they did, do you really believe they'd add SWF to the game they didn't expect people to talk together? Or that they were delusional enough to believe it's even theoretically possible to prevent people from talking to eachother?

And directly from the official rules as well (https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/19450/game-rules-and-report-system) I quote, "We are not banning for the use of communication apps.". So even if you go with the 3rd party app rule it has an explicit exception from that rule.

They've both stated they don't consider it cheating on this very forum (see post above by Dino7281), and added it right there in the rules.

  • While I get why it's not a thing as cages aren't hooks, I honestly wish the BP-modifier stacks of both WGLF and BBQ worked with cages. Has absolutely no impact on actual in-match gameplay, only points.

A four man SWF just crushed me 20 minutes ago, tilted the crap out of me, I had to abandon the match for the first time in my life.

Last night, in my final match of the night, I played with a Twitch streamer who was in a 3 man SWF and I have proof of the VOD. Does the forum allow me to post the twitch streamer? Becuase im not lying. I can show you he was a 3-man SWF abusing voice comms.

You probably don't want to post that, as from the rest of your post it would be very easy to claim your intent was some sort of naming and shaming which is against forum rules.

Don't know what you'd expect to come from it in the first place. Unless people are throwing verbal harassment around via voice there is no such thing as "abusing voice comms". No rules against voice chat or what you do with it, unless you use it to verbally harass someone in some way.

    Remove perk tiers

... thank you, we're on the same page here 😄

  • Around august 2017.

  • Nuke the grind as much as possible. Best place to start is to finally get rid of perk tiers, as they're a source of both inconsistency in perks (depending on what scales with level, the level can be irrelevant to the function of the perk OR essential) and also the source of seemingly arbitrary cooldowns and other restrictions on perks that shouldn't have them... just to have something to scale.

Better practice options. Just let people populate a custom game with bots, let them use their own loadout (or any loadout they want to try, as everything is unlocked in customs) and let people try stuff out there. Let them select what killer the killer bot plays as well if they're doing that (but with the option to randomize it of course).

That's the big 2 if you ask me, especially the grind. Not even touching on how it can be a continue-or-quit decision moment once people realize what grind they actually have ahead of them.

  • Of course it is, DBD is a multiplayer game released after the PS3/360 came out so it's gonna be there. It could be """worse""", the standard nowadays is to actively encourage and reward partying up with xp bonuses and player referral rewards~

Believing any other approach to "dealing with it" than increasing fairly assumed baseline survivor efficiency and balancing around that (this is the "buff solo and balance around that") even has a non-zero chance of ever happening is delusional.

Why am I not surprised that it doesn’t disable DS.

I honestly have no idea what sort of "identity" boon totems have under the hood.

They don't disable DS, while all other interactions with totems do. But at the same time they're clearly not dull totems, but Undying's aura reading works with them. It's like they don't know what they want to be 😄

  • I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm playing killer as much as always and I wouldn't do so if I didn't find it fun.

  • Boon totems are pretty confusing when it comes to how they interact with other systems. They count as dull totems as far as Undying goes, but blessing a dull totem also doesn't disable DS while all other interactions with totems do.

It's undeniably not intended as Undying's description says nothing about boon totems. But I'd honestly be as fine with the interaction being removed as I would be with Undying's description simply being updated to say "Dull Totems AND Boon Totems". Just make the interaction work as described by the perk one way or another.

  • Either straight up remove them or fix them + let him do what they allow him to do by base no matter the platform/input device, and balance around that.

That's the core thing I dislike about it. As far as I know it's not really something available to all players on all platforms, and while there will always be differences between platforms being able to bypass the intentionally implemented limits of a killer because you play on the "right" platform goes a bit beyond unavoidable differences like input devices and game performance.

I have seen other post where people DC'd and the remaining survivor moaned because the killer killed them. They said that the killer should have let them do gens and escape.

Now we have a post because the killer did not kill, maybe the killer was trying to be nice and let you wiggle and do gens, both getting BP.

It seems like there are some times when the killer does not know what to do for the best. I have been in both situations, killed and been argued with, not killed and been argued with.

Killing someone isn't against the rules, not killing someone isn't against the rules... but putting someone in a situation where the only way out of the match is to disconnect by blocking them in a corner for 8+ minutes is against the rules. The purest form of keeping someone hostage that exists and not in any way similar to people whining about a player doing something completely legal.

  • Any amount of players you'd realistically get to go along with that would be statistically insignificant from the point of views of the devs. If you want to do so because you want to, go ahead. If you do so because you expect some sort of change to come from it, keep on dreaming.

  • The devs have made it abundantly clear that anything that splits the playerbase or might increase queue times is a no go, unless it's an unavoidable side effect of a bigger system like SBMM. They removed the ability to see the ranks of other people in the lobby for example.

The only path with a non-zero probability of even being considered is the often mentioned "buff base/solo survivor and balance the game/killers around it". No, I don't know the perfect way to do this either (because no perfect way exists, most likely), but all other ways will quite simply never ever happen. Maybe showing SWF after the match is over, but I wouldn't even be surprised if that got reverted because some clowns ruin it for everyone by taking the presence of SWF as justification to be toxic in chat or making cringy "dodge lists" manually.

  • Because that's a problem with maps, not the perk itself. Unlike when COH caused crashes, that was the perk itself. Disabling boons when it's only specific maps where the problem exists is a good old "cut the whole hand off because one finger is messed up" solution.

The maps where the problem exists should be disabled though. Not just the offerings either, but entirely disabled in all ways except manually selecting them in Custom Game.

  • I don't. I just play like I always have and MMR can put me wherever it wants to.

Dunno if it's my playstyle, skill, mindset or something else but I honestly don't dislike MMR. Still get very varied matches and match quality, but the good matches are slightly more common and better than pre-MMR. Do keep in mind that a lot of people would probably consider the "good matches" I'm talking about sweaty hellscapes, so YMMV and all that.

  • You mean like, only one survivor can escape? Because I think that should be pretty obvious, it would at least encourage survivors to be far more selfish, at worst make them actively screw eachother over. Something that could be funny as a limited time game mode or as a way to meme around as a 4man/in custom games, but not for the regular game.

  • If they didn't have some other way to get up like that like Unbreakable, No Mither or more unusual ones like someone sneaking a syringe into them when you didn't look that's a bug.

Soul Guard works when you're Cursed, which Hex totems do. But wouldn't be too much of a shock if having any totem status effect active for some wacky reason activates the self-recovery part of the perk, boons are an entirely new mechanic and just like unsnuffable boon totems were quickly discovered to be a thing there's probably gonna be more weird interactions with them in the game.

  • At least I can make a funny screenshot where I have a singular bloodpoint now.

Just gotta make some BP, most likely all the way up to 1mil unless the stars align and I land on a pleasant number ending in 000 along the way. So I can spend my way down to a nice 0 and then use the code 😄

  • Makes sense for tournaments, not for public matchmaking. And killers also have add-on restrictions in tournaments, a setting where every survivor team is a 4man that's probably better than 99% of teams you'll ever meet in pubs.

And showing SWF pre-game to the killer is quite simply billions of lightyears into never ever territory. BHVR has made it very clear that anything that even might increase lobby dodging is a no-go. It's honestly more likely they remove the easy access to player profiles than them showing SWF pre-game.

  • If I somehow end up on a server where I have high latency.

Otherwise, no. That's the one thing I check before tabbing out until the match begins.

  • Not really, I tend to play all of them except Spirit and Hag (sometimes the Hag mood strikes, but very rarely) simply because I don't really find the powers of those two killers fun.

But I've certainly played more Huntress than anyone else, because hatchets are a fun power to me.

  • Either a bug, some sort of bizarre latency issue, or lagswitching if you ask me. Considering lagswitchers could make themselves impossible to hook I wouldn't be surprised if it could be used to "reject" a DS stun ever happening as well.

I'd report it as a bug either way, as it's 100% unintended behavior. They already changed the DS skillcheck timing / DS itself / both?? once to prevent people right under hooks from being possible to hook before their DS went through.

You can still get the maps randomly. But that still doesn't explain why they disable the map offerings and not the perks. If it's on those maps wouldn't it make sense to disable the boons or maps and not the map offerings?

I mean I do agree there, it would make far more sense to disabled the maps entirely so they don't show up at all. Disabling map offerings almost makes me wonder if they can actually disable maps with the killswitch or if it's only perks/items/add-ons and so on.

Boons in general? No need for that as they work as intended on every other map. That'd be Hex perks in general being disabled for all the time Dead Dawg Saloon has spent in the time-out box instead of the map being disabled.

  • I don't even really care about the reason but I see "more bloodpoints" and I automatically nod in agreement to that part.

Nuke the grind, one warhead at a time.

  • The least demanding thing that could be done is simply show the perk in the corner like with Kindred when someone is on the hook and it can be activated. Show it greyed out to begin with, light it up once it becomes activated. This really should be a thing, as at least people will actually be informed that the perk is in play. As it can genuinely be pretty good when people know it's an available resource.

Would combo quite well with Kindred as well. Even solo players could see that the player closest to the hook is on the way to activate the perk, so the others know they have more time to do whatever else like gens, totems, healing or anything else that's needed.

Of course, sometimes you'll get megaminds that race eachother to the hook from the other side of the map after leaving their 70% gens vs Ruin no matter if you have camaraderie, kindred and open handed at the same time. Or people that activate the perk and then just crouch near the hook for even longer. But at least players that want to put the perk to use properly can plan around it.

  • You probably have Q+E bound to turn left and turn right. I know I do, ever since I did so for easier cruise control as Billy.

So yeah, my camera spins to the right whenever I use AME or boon a totem, because my E key is bound to both look right and that special ability action.

  • Just like all the other times people doompost, the game will be fine. I'll believe otherwise when I see it with my own eyes, because I've lost count of how many things that were predicted to totally kill the game for real this time and it didn't happen.

  • Because it's only on those maps there's (known) unbreakable spots for boon totems. They work as intended everywhere else.

But I think the maps can still be rolled randomly if no offerings are used? If that's the case the maps should be completely disabled, not just the offerings.

  • Because they want to. Looking for any "deeper" answer to why anyone BMs is at best a waste of time, at worst a path to creepy garbage like making blanket assumptions about the mental state and irl personality of stereotypical survivor/killer mains or whatever else.

The only real exception is people that believe "vent games" are anything but an absolutely garbage thing to do. You know, they have a bad match and take it out on entirely unrelated player(s). Honestly forfeit all right to complain about BM, especially since I've yet to see someone doing that kinda stuff consider that whoever got them mad in the first place might also have been doing a "vent game" 🙃

  • EGC is purely a failsafe that forces a game to end, the fancy visuals and sound effects are just simple bonuses. Once a gate is open, the match has an absolute hard cap on how much longer it can last (assuming no cheaters of course), and if the survivors refuse to open them the killer has the option to do so.

Viewing it as anything else is just straight up expecting something from the mechanic that it was never designed to provide in the first place.

  • If possible I watch the match via VOD afterwards because I always find it interesting to see my gameplay from another perspective. That's it really.

    in TTV Comment by oxygen
  • Just like old matchmaking, there's still that inconsistency there for me. Matches where I get rolled, matches where I roll. But I seem to get more of the genuinely good matches that are hard but I feel evenly matched, and the survivors seem to be players similar on the "trying scale" to me (they try to win of course, but they don't go "all out")

I don't like stomping full stop, at least when I get stomped I might learn a thing or two. But that gets old fast too if it's over and over of course.

  • Considering how totem spots seem to cause trouble often (lol Dead Dawg Saloon) I'm actually not surprised at all that totem-related interactions that now interact with the killer's collision hull/hitbox/whatever to not be untouchable lead to some issues. It's the exact kinda issue the killswitch/deactivation system was implemented for anyway.

It's just funny to me that saloon claws its way back and then gets sent right back to the shadow realm.

  • Considering the wording in the "What you shouldn't publish on Steam" article/guide, I feel like it's targetting something else than the NFT stuff in question when it comes to DBD right now. I quote:

"13: Applications built on blockchain technology that issue or allow exchange of cryptocurrencies or NFTs."

    Source: https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/gettingstarted/onboarding

At least to me it sounds like it's more about in-game items having NFTs attached to them and therefore real-world value (which is pretty interesting considering how many really expensive completely virtual items that exist in games like CS:GO, TF2 and to a lesser extent other big games with Steam inventory support such as Rust).

NFTs when it comes to gaming are needless to say quite controversial at the moment considering the Evolved Apes situation that looks like some kinda exit scam, situations involving copyright infringement/art theft and of course the environmental concerns.

EDIT: Basically, DBD is by no means a "crypto game" or "built on blockchain technology". It's used more as some kinda weird marketing tool than anything else.

  • No, then I'd have to buy it again to keep playing it. And I want to keep playing it.

  • I fear getting pallet stunned by a survivor I didn't even know was there. Real jumpscare moment, but it quickly transitions to funny.

    Other than that nothing really.

  • Because they want to, which is the only reason anyone needs to play however they want as long as they don't break any rules.

That's it, it isn't any deeper than that. The vast majority of the time whenever people try to go deeper than that, it just heads into cringy player shaming territory or creepy assumptions about people's IRL personality and/or mental state based on how they play a video game.

  • If I stopped finding it fun. Hasn't happened yet, so probably not gonna happen for a long time if ever.

  • If it can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt, it should be.

I've "helped a cheater" before. I had no idea they were cheating, as all I saw was someone step in a trap near me and I had a flashlight... I got the flashlight save, and the survivor immediately "self care instahealed" and then zoomed away at 30% of the speed of light or something. I did not help them anymore, but the killer still got mad at me for being with the cheater and said they reported all of us even though as far as I could tell no one was "with the cheater", they were solo. I'm sure I'm not alone in this, especially when it comes to more subtle cheaters or ones that suddenly start cheating later in the game.

But if someone has a history of playing with someone with several reports where they're pretty undeniably cheating and it's very hard to believe they weren't aware? Give them the same punishment as the cheater themselves if you ask me.

  • In theory? Maybe.

But I'd be surprised if even like... 20 people worldwide actually do so for that particular reason. And even that is being extremely generous.

  • I just keep playing normally and try my best.

  • 10 games is practically completely irrelevant on the big data scale their statistics come from. As they said, they have data from millions of matches. On that scale more and more results like 4k and 4escape cancel eachother out as far as the average is concerned.

It's like rolling dice. Roll 10 times and you won't get the perfect 1/6 chance of every result from 1 to 6 from your data, you'll probably have very clear statistical outliers. Roll hundreds of dice and it'll get closer, roll thousands and it'll get even closer and so on.

  • No, and while I don't think it should be (leads to really obnoxious line-drawing to decide what's "too far" and what isn't) I do think there should be some sort of "teleport myself onto a basement hook" function for situations like that.

Don't worry though, I'm sure that same player gets turbo mad if a survivor decides to wait until the last nanosecond of EGC to leave. Even though it's very similar, a pointless waste of time. And yes, I also want a button in the basement or something that forces all remaining survivors to escape at the end for the killer too (even though the situations aren't completely identical, the killer can at least choose to force the survivors to leave afterall. But still a good idea imo)

  • I've always just found the map kinda... boring as both killer and survivor, but I'll still miss it. It's unique and a part of the game that is in no way broken or anything, so a shame to see it go.

  • For at the very least as long as it keeps recieving developer support.

If it was more open to community-created content like many Source games and had community-hosted servers / p2p as a backup solution, I'd even say potentially forever. I can't really see something like Team Fortress 2 ever dying unless Valve intentionally kills it for example, along with the hopeless addicts like me that has been playing that pretty much since it came out that game has had generations of players at this point - old ones get bored, new ones come in. Hell, that community even has rather distinct generations of content creators, community projects, memes and whatever else to go with the generations of players.

That's what can happen when you have a game that is genuinely offering something you can't reaaaaally get anywhere else. Maybe something that gets close, but not quite the same.
