  • I'll put it this way: roughly half the time I open a chest there's a key inside and I just leave it or point it out to another survivor. I'd rather have my medkit and try to play the game. I'll use a key from time to time but I prefer to use one that I came in with as opposed to one that I found. The spawn rate is definitely bugged.

  • The game is still enabled because millions of people still enjoy playing it.

Rank based matchmaking simply does not work for a game like this. Someone being rank 1 does not mean the player is good, it probably means he plays a lot of DBD enough to pip 20 times in a month. I honestly miss when the rank reset throwed everyone to green ranks, so red ranks were actually a bit better. As you said, too many red ranks who don't know basically looping or simply coordination. Hope MMR fixes that.

I agree. I think that the current matchmaking system is the biggest cause of complaints about survivors, killers, AND balance. Everyone is just randomly thrown in with everyone, regardless of actual skill or experience.

  • Hag mains need help? There's no need for help when you main as a Hag. Just choose her and you win.

My last 3 games as survivor have seen me become the last survivor to be found and caught, yet without a single hook state lost, I think its pretty unfair that you get auto sacraficed without any kind of chance to reverse the result or earn any struggle points. You litterally keep safe from the killer all game yet if you get hooked last, you've lost 2 lives in 1. The killer inevitability stands there spamming his/her power as if he's owned you.

I do believe you should get the usual hook escape attempts and atleast a few seconds to struggle to make the killer wait, or you can just not struggle and accept defeat.

    Your thoughts

I've often been the guy who gets at least 3 gens done but then finally gets hooked and dies because of face-camping. I get like 6,000 points while my team, who did less, gets like 15K or more because the game rewards aggressive play and punishes people who play more carefully.

  • I like playing against Nurse. Just keep your distance, listen well and play conservatively. She's no different than most other killers.

Spirit still sucks. So does Hag. And I'm totally over the Wraith and his latest buffs.

But it takes around 30-40 seconds to walk across the entire map, right? So by the time he walks across, you're very likely to find yourself in his terror radius. Where else should the killer be going? You need interaction in the game :)

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2153074#Comment_2153074

6 seconds yeah, but then he can only chase one, if they didn't play stealthy enough which is the risk you always take in this game. 3 of you can go about their business and the chased fella has all these fresh tiles at their disposal to waste enormous amounts of time - especially in Gideon's meat plant :)

I have had matches that started me very close, too close to my liking or to what I'd consider fair. But it's extremely rare, so idk. Maybe you're just very unlucky.

I don't think this is a problem and I'd like to offer my strategy to avoid it. I usually run to places I wouldn't be expected at, risky but it pays off a lot. I stealth at the right times and don't feel like I'm unfairly found or constantly followed. The best of all is of course to be aware of the surrounding tiles and be always ready to move into safe positions. I think you can always find a pallet within 6 seconds of a match starting actually.

I appreciate your advice and understand why you think it would work, I actually assumed the same. The thing is that, literally, the killer shows up before I can really do ANYTHING. I'm not saying that I should be able to get at least 1 free gen or anything like that, or that the killer should never be near me. Nothing unfair like that. I just mean that for the first month that I played the game I was able to run (literally) around the map a bit, travel maybe partway through it before spotting the killer somewhere nearby, etc. Now, more and more and more often, the killer is like RIGHT around the corner as soon as the game begins. That Gideon's example was the worst so far. 6 seconds without exaggeration. We had no choice but to move in one direction, forward, to even leave the room. And just as we did, Freddy was within range. There was no strategy we could employ, nowhere we could go. The only thing we could have done was all just run like bats out of hell out of that room in every random direction we could think of, which may have worked in that case but would probably run us smack into the killer in any other case.

I don't mind the killer finding us, that's part of the game. Nothing unfair about the interactions or anything like that. I just like to have a CHANCE to move away from the spawn point, actually go INTO the map before the killer is already right there in my face. It's honestly as if the killers are all using an offering I never saw before which reads "start the trial as close as possible to the survivors".

  • Just played a match in Gideon's warehouse. All the survivors spawned against the exit, so we had nowhere to go but forward. We managed to get as far as the end of that little room before Freddy's terror radius hit and he came through the next room over.

Six seconds. All four survivors had six seconds to somehow defend themselves against this. Real nice.

  • It's interesting to me that just in the few days since posting this I've seen several of the combinations I listed at the top. I didn't realize that I'd never faced Freddy in Midwich before. It was really cool, it felt like playing an actual Elm Street game (the tiny little 100-foot long "schools" in Badhame have nothing on Midwich. In fact nothing about Badham suggests Elm Street. Midwich? Fits Freddy like a glove (no pun intended).

Yep and I have now just seen Dwight and Claudette aswell. Dwight looks weird as hell, Claudette is the only one who looks normal (And better)

Agreed. Dwight now looks too handsome and cool to have ever been the victim of fatal bullying, he doesn't look like a nerd. He reminds me of Clark Kent.

Claudette, in my opinion, is a very subtle change for the better.

Meg's hair is the worst change of all of it, in my opinion. The femullet observation is very apt. It's like a bird's nest is on her head.

  • @bm33 said:

She looks really young now, like she's maybe 13-16 years old. Also not a fan of the hair, saw someone on Twitter compare the look of it to Billy Ray Cyrus hair. 😂 They definitely need to make the hair more red.

I just wish that they left the hair alone altogether. She was the only redhead in the game, now she looks like dirty blonde. It doesn't fit my impression of her as a feisty, independent athlete. It also looks messier, which is worse.

The face is okay, I like the original better but I'm kind of indifferent. But please, keep the original hair.

  • I don't mind the eyes TOO much, they give her a softer more feminine look but I never really pictured Meg as "soft". She's a runner, alert and athletic, so I thought that her big observant eyes fit the character.

The hair...UGH. I cannot STAND the new hair. I despise it. There are already blondes in the game. Meg's red hair made her unique, especially with cosmetics like the fortune teller outfit (where it's down and beautiful). It also looks like a bird's nest now. It's a mess.

I BEG the people behind this to please at LEAST leave her hair alone. I can live with the rest but Meg's hair is unique, it has to stay.

  • @Huge_Bush said:

She probably looks the way she does due to the limitations of the games engine. I mean, look at the new Meg update, the face is just a little smoother with better hair, but it doesn't look like much changed. Heck, look at how Yui looks in her cinematic and look at her in game and you can clearly see that her in game character is taking fashion tips from Voldemort.

    Worse hair! Much worse!

  • And please, PLEASE have the good sense not to change Meg's hair. The subtle facial work is great. But her red locks are part of what makes her unique, and the new hair is way too messy and lighter. I'd be perfectly fine with Meg if she kept her original hair.

  • @IronKnight55 said:

Some people just don't like change. I think all of the updated characters look so much better.

Some people just don't like change, that's true, but some people also just don't like bad changes. I can see objective arguments as to why Dwight's changes are worse (he looks less like someone who would be bullied now, he looks more handsome and "cool") and Meg's hair is messier and didn't need to be lightened, she's the only redhead and we already have multiple blondes in the game.

That's like a game of Call of Duty charging you ten bucks for a gun and then eventually changing to to hot pink. "But I paid for the gold one". - "Too bad".

Well no, it'd be like if you bought a skin for a gun for $10, and later on they decide to adjust the overall texture quality of the base gun, which by proxy affect any skins it has.

None of the cosmetics in DBD change the Survivor's facial structure. You're buying them for the outfits and hairstyles. They're not changing the outfits you've purchased, they're updating the base model of the character.

Meg's hairstyle has changed, and I've bought two of her heads specifically for their unique hairstyles. I can only assume that they will be reworked to be in line with the new Meg design. If not, and the hairstyles are completely separate pieces that can just be "popped off" of the default head and slapped onto the newly designed character's head, then that's fine. I don't, however, imagine that it will go that way.

Additionally, it goes further than just the literal "the outfits will be left untouched", which remains to be seen. The person who made this post is very disappointed in Claudette, for example, so he's probably less likely to but a bunch of Claudette outfits.

If, for example, I loved using a character because of their appearance, then bought a bunch of cosmetics for them because their appearance helped to make them a favored character, then changing that character's appearance in a way that I find much less appealing will make me want to use that character less, and therefore render that cosmetic money wasted.

It's an online game, so it's in the agreement that they can change whatever they want whenever they want and as a player you can't do anything about it, there's no recourse, they keep your money no matter how you feel about it.

I've been unhappy about the change to Kate's hair for a long, long time, ever since it stopped looking like curls in front and was changed to look more like Farrah hair. Sucks.

That does suck, and strikes me as a bit onerous. If you pay real-life money to make a character look a certain way, it's sort of a slap in the face to then arbitrarily decide to change the look later on to something you wouldn't have paid money for.

I understand it, but it's not a very good way to treat people who have paid for in-game extras. That's like a game of Call of Duty charging you ten bucks for a gun and then eventually changing to to hot pink. "But I paid for the gold one". - "Too bad".

Gen speeds are fine and you shouldn't be hiding anyway. Unless you're playing against cheat slinger, learn to run tiles better.

Hiding isn't the issue here. I don't spend the game hiding. My point is that regardless of how conservatively (sneaking, NOT hiding, which a perfectly acceptable strategy) or how recklessly (running full speed to get to a different part of the map), I'm constantly encountering the killer almost immediately at the start of the match. I'm not the only one this is happening to. It's a problem.

Imagine playing a game of hide and seek, or tag, where you and the other person are on either side of the killer shack. That's basically what I'm dealing with and it's happening on a near-constant basis.

  • Honestly if there were a way to spread everyone apart so that the killers weren't within ten or twenty seconds of a survivor, and a suevivor wasn't within ten or twenty seconds of a generator, to me that would be sufficient. That said, if killers feel that gens get done too fast, I'd be open to some kind of compromise in that area too.

I know that a lot of survivors wouldn't want that, but I honestly don't believe that most survivors have encountered the issue that I'm having. Literally twice in a row now (in between these messages) either I or another survivor was being chased by a killer within about twelve seconds. As I've said elsewhere, that's not even long enough to find one's bearings and develop even a little bit of spacial awareness, let alone find (or come anywhere near completing) their first generator.

It's just ridiculous, especially when there are perks that disable generators at the start as well. I've been spawned into games, slowly tried to creep around and find a sort of relatively safe-seeming area to start working from, and I see a generator that's locked by the Entity. Boom, now I'm being chased. What actual chance did I have? What could I have possibly done? I hate to use the term "it isn't fair" but in all objectivity, it really isn't.

Hell, even a 30 second invincibility for survivors and a 30 second lock on the generators would suit me just fine. Just give me a chance to actually PLAY after spending a good five minutes waiting for a match, you know?

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/246508/this-game-has-to-do-a-better-job-of-spawning-survivors-and-killers-farther-apart

Only when generator times become a hinderance to do solo vs a group - then I can get on board with survivors being force-spawned farther from the killer; and on top of that, they should be force spawned away from each other in that case too -- to compensate having to cross an entire map nearly to start finding someone.

In the current game, that would give too much time to gen rush even worse than is possible now - so random spawn distance it is.

I have no problem spawning far away from fellow survivors too. That's a fair trade if something like what I'm asking were to be implemented.

All I want is a fair game, and having the killer literally one room (or, again, a few hundred feet) away from you RIGHT at the start of the match seems really unreasonable to me. If there's a minimum distance in place right now, it sure isn't enough.

  • If these changes are mandatory, isn't that going to kind of waste a lot of the money that people have paid for cosmetics? If I don't like the way that Nea looks, just as an example, I'm not going to buy any cosmetics for her. But I already have, so now that's wasted money - cosmetics that I used to make a character look more appealing, which are now being used on a character that no longer looks appealing.

I mean, how are they actually even going to do that, anyway? Aren't they going to have to go back through and alter every single cosmetic head? Which reiterates my point: I paid money for them because of how they looked, with the expectation that they wouldn't randomly change sometime in the future. Has anyone discussed this?

  • Hey, hot bodies make for hot corpses.

    ...What am I saying?

  • I did see Felix. He helps me to understand why there appears to be a large home sexual fandom for this game. :)

On the other hand I just saw the redone version of Meg. Please leave her hair alone BHVR. Please. I beg you.

I think it depends if you play a certain characters or not , if u don't ur fine with the changes, but if u do u will probs hate them

You're not wrong, but I do actually play as Claudette a lot. To be honest I always thought that she was kind of fugly. Now she looks - well, roughly the same to me, but maybe slightly less fugly.

I think this is one that just comes down to personal preference. I don't think you're wrong to see her as butchered, and I'd disappointed for you that you do (it sucks to have negative changes done to characters that we like using), I just don't share the same negative assessment in her specific case.

That finding and chasing would end in 30 seconds, what with the exit gates powered up and all. I'm pretty sure the sacrifice would give more BP.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2152583#Comment_2152583

I'm not saying that at all, and also I am. I am aware that one side or the other will hate it; no side likes to lose.

But I don't see Killers demanding Survivors jump onto meat hooks during the EGC because losing sucks. I DO, however, see Survivors demanding camping be changed. They are trying to demand Killers play a certain way that benefits them, and their enjoyment of the game, over the Killer's.

So that's the difference, when it comes to camping; one side is using 'anti-fun' as an excuse to try handicapping the other side. One side is trying to say 'My enjoyment takes precedence over yours' or 'You can only win if I approve of it', and since no one likes losing, that 'approval' would be pretty scanty.

Again, this is only about camping. I'm well aware both sides scream bloody murder over nerfs, buffs, and perks.

I agree that many survivor mains constantly complain about camping and tunneling being "unfair" and not actual strategies, which I disagree with (and I'm a survivor main myself) so yes, I do understand where you're coming from there. And yes, unfortunately both sides can find themselves in some really boring situations. Last night a Wraith downed all four survivors and just ran around letting us spend several minutes bleeding out. A ten minute wait for three minutes of gameplay followed by several more minutes of NOT playing and enough BP to buy a cheap toolbox when all is said and done. That sucks. So does being face-camped. It's no fun to have your agency, your ability to actually PLAY, taken away from you. And as someone who isn't very good as the killer, I too find myself in situations where gens pop fast and the survivors seem nowhere to be found. That sucks too.

I guess all I'm saying is that you might have more fun if you played differently. Or, if you do feel that you have to camp for that one survivor at the end (which, I reiterate, is to me a frustrating if valid strategy), don't concern yourself with the survivor being upset about it. It's gonna happen.

  • She does to me, I actually probably wouldn't have noticed much of a change if no one told me that they made one. That's just me though, I'm bummed about Meg's hair so I feel you.

  • Thanks guys. I don't visit twitter so I guess that would explain why I never saw any of these.

In my opinion Claudette looks fine. Subjective, but I think that her changes were subtle and not ruinous. Dwight looks a little too hip and less dorky now, his changes seem the most "extreme". I like the previous version better. I'm really torn on Meg. Her face has been smoothed and she looks more feminine which is cool, but I hate the hair change.

  • @Power_Guy said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2152558#Comment_2152558

So...The Killer should let the Survivor go, simply because they will be sad they died? Nevermind the lost BP (regardless of how much). The Survivors enjoyment should take precedent over the Killer's enjoyment (that camped kill can mean the difference between a miserable 0 kills or maybe 1 or 2, which can change their enjoyment), and over the Killer's stats at the end of the game (BP and pips)?

That's basically what you're saying. The Killer should just give up and leave so the Survivor is not sad.

Your argument is that the killer's right to enjoyment should take precedence over the survivor's. Either argument is selfish.

All players should be able to play in a way that they enjoy as long as it's not breaking the rules. The point is that if you feel like the only way you can have any fun after all 4 gens are done is to hook and camp a survivor then sure, that's fine, but don't act surprised or self-righteous when that survivor hates it.

  • Where can one view all of these changes?

Ah yes, my 20 second timer objective that, with four survivors still alive and two doors available when I'm in a random part of the map while potentially hooking a survivor. Yes that objective. What you're saying is you want free unhooks because one of you rats have scurried to the hook while I've left it unattended chasing a survivor at the door to the escape.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2152418#Comment_2152418

I am personally 100% okay with these perks in play. A Killer should never expect to get a win from facecamping in the end but it's the only salvageable position, bar NOED, that they can get any bloodpoints. As salty as the bodyblocking, DS, and BT make anyone in this position the killer should be aware that at the very least EVERYONE just gained a lot more points, including themselves from potential trades.

Calling players "scurrying rats" for escaping, as is the objective of the game, seems like kind of a cheap shot.

A counterargument: If you're upset that survivors got all the gens without you managing to kill one, what are the survivors supposed to do, throw themselves onto the hooks for you for sympathy deaths?

If the gens are done then start running the doors or just start running around looking for a survivor in general. Hook him and stay somewhat near, yes. In my experience survivors don't leave unless they know that they have no chance of saving everyone who's left on the map. You should have a fair chance of still getting at least 1 kill whether all 4 gens get done or not.

It did not help that I was facing a 4-man SWF using all meta perks & flashlights, and they burned to go to Lampkin Lane, but my first match as The Blight saw me sliding off 90% of the objects I tried to bump into.

    That car? Slide off.

    That railing? Slide off.

That tree? Whoops! Someone put oil on it! Slide off.

The trash can? Nope! Slide off.

The sliding, plus a depip squad, really just made me hate my first match as Blight. On yeah, and it was a rank 3 slumming with his rank 13 buddies to further pick on Killers.

I basically gave up and opened an exit gate. Because trying to learn a new killer while a depip squad and their rank 3 smurfer buddy try to make the match as horrible as possible is pure salt.

That's interesting, the first time I ever tried the Blight was also on Haddonfield, and I had no idea what I was doing wrong or what I was supposed to do better. I would be chasing someone and execute his power then SLiiiiiiiiiiiIP! Slip and Slide! If his power is supposed to be bouncing against everything that he hits and ricocheting into the survivor (which is one of the strangest powers I've ever heard of to begin with), it did not work.

i have made a whole entire post on why I dont like meg

and you would not like it

Is it in this thread? Lol I'll have to find it. To each their own, I don't care if someone finds a person ugly that I find attractive.

I think that her character model is very pretty (though the prettiest face may be Zarina, I'm not sure yet) but I do admit that on some really close-up renders of her on the main DBD site make her look a lot worse (to be fair they make all the other characters she's standing with look worse). I guess I'm saying that in-game, where I'm used to her, I think that she looks quite pretty. In the fortune teller outfit I think she's straight-up beautiful.

Love the series (though the third one is the first one to drop in quality) but eh, I like my women to look less strung out.

  • Jane is thicc. Thicc is hot.

That said, Meg is my girl. The fortune teller outfit is gorgeous. Her hair is down, golden red, her beautifully toned midriff is on display, and if you swap her dress for pants you can see her cute lower back dimples. I think that she's a very attractive character model. Then again most of the women in this game are. Not all, but most. Some may find it weird but whatevs, I have no sexual interest in these characters because they're not real but can still recognize an attractive painting, illustration, video game character, what have you. It's perfectly normal until it becomes a fetish, and even then, there are some stranger fetishes out there.

And I'll be fair. I'm as straight as an arrow but I'm secure enough in my masculinity to recognize that Steve is a hunk.

  • Roll your eyes at how juvenile they are, don't let them rile you up emotionally (they're more likely to make you screw up that way) and realize that you're more mature and likely a better player than they are.

That's what I do and I'm a SURVIVOR main. I feel embarrassed whenever I'm on a team with idiots like that and always try to make a point of being the one guy who says "gg" after the fact so the killer knows that not all of us are jerks.

  • I never liked facing her much because of how difficult it is to get a win against an experienced Spirit user, but at the same time I like the spooky atmosphere of fighting her, there's an aesthetic that she brings that most other killers don't.

Frankly the two killers I don't want to face anymore are Trickster and Wraith. Trickster just gets on my nerves and always has, and Wraith has been needlessly buffed into OP territory. I'm completely over both of them.

  • I saw my first killer / survivor collaboration in several weeks today. Hackers, the two sides working in collusion. I sometimes forget how deeply I despise cowards who don't have what it takes to play a competitive game as it was designed.

  • I play solo and I actually don't have the problem of not being rescued. With a few exceptions the others usually try to get me unhooked at first opportunity. Often to the detriment of our progress, actually.

  • The Wraith is OP now. I hate it. Invisible + super speed + totally silent even when uncloaking = real pain in the ass match.

I had some survivor argue with me earlier about how the chest bug was fair, and that I deserved for them to key out, because I 3 gen'd them. Even though I do get 2 people keying out frequently I normally don't complain about it, but I just finally cracked after earlier, because it happens way too often. I don't even count them as losses, because it's just not fair.

Nah. There's nothing fair about survivors getting game-changing items virtually every time they find a chest. Any survivor main who makes that argument just wants to have an easy advantage.

And with the second thing you say, then legion and clown should be tier S as well, because my teammates are bananas and im often in scenarios where a fckin legion that bought the game yesterday do a 4k in ormond.

But those two arent that good. I cant really rank killers from my experience, because that would be too subjective as well.

Even as a survivor main I have to agree.

  • This is the second time today I've heard of some guy named Otz and how what he says apparently carries tremendous weight. Why is this, just because he's popular and plays the game a lot? I would think that "tier lists" are incredibly subjective and based on the individual experiences of the person playing the game.

For me Wraith is A tier and Nurse is B tier at best. That's because the Wraith seems to almost always get me, yet I almost always escape the Nurse. Is my opinion on the matter gospel? If not, how many hours do I have to put into the game before it is?

  • Moderating a game forum has nothing to do with providing answers about the game or its development. Even IF they are privy to such information, it's not their job to share it. In fact, doing so would likely cost them those jobs and potentially earn them a lawsuit.

As for cross-progression, they DID say that it's coming, and that they're working on it. This was as recently as March when I looked into the issue at the time that I was debating getting an additional copy of the game for my Switch Lite. I don't know if they ever used the word "promise" (and I would doubt that they did) but in all fairness they made it clear that it's something that we can expect at some point. It's probably a very difficult thing to implement though.

  • I didn't pay attention to this until I started opening chests for a challenge that I hadn't done yet. Everyone's right, 50 percent of the time I open a chest it's likely to have a key inside. I'm currently running down all of my character's items so that they can be used up rather than just deleted when I prestige, and it's gotten to the point that I'm literally just walking up to other survivors and leaving keys or flashlights on the ground for them. I figure someone might as well use them.

  • The Thing, complete with Kurt Russell as MacReady.
