It's boring and frustrating because it's so easy for the survivors and completely undynamic for the killer. People want chases, that's why the game has such a large, long-lasting playerbase. Which is also why people hate presrop-and-W, it's essentially the same thing as stealth: incredibly easy for the survivor and no real counter for the killer.
I understand that it's boring for the killer but it's not my job to make the killer's job exciting, it's my job to outplay the killer and escape. I despise the looping, for every time people call stealthy play "hide and seek" I point out that chasing and looping is nothing more than glorified tag. I find THAT profoundly boring.
So in a sense I understand the misery, no one likes to be forced to play in a way they don't like, but that's the beauty of this game: People are allowed to play how they want. So many people have tried to shame me for "hiding and not playing" (not you in this thread) and I have to just shrug, they're not going to change my mind or somehow guilt me into thinking "they're right, I should make myself more vulnerable to attack so the killers aren't bored".
Every survivor in the game hides at various points of the match, killers just don't seem to like players that accomplish things while going unseen. That says, to me, that they just want easy kills. To that I say "there are three other people playing musical unhooks, you're plenty busy".
-
No offense but I don't understand why so many people see this game as a grind. I'm not saying that it ISN'T a grind - it is - but I mean, you get no special "win" state or super bonus for prestiging characters or making them adept or getting your favorite perks, etc., you just keep playing games and keep getting bloodpoints.
My point is, if the main point of playing the game is to hurry through the grind then what's the point of playing at all? I don't mind the grind because to me it's a secondary component of the game, something just happens naturally on its own as a side effect from playing. I don't see a new character or perk and think "aw man, now I have to grind that", I think "hmm, maybe I'll switch to that character for a while now".
Like I said, I'm not trying to insult anybody, I just don't understand why, if the game is all about grinding by playing, so many people are focused on the grind instead of just enjoying the play. It reminds me of the South Park Warcraft episode where the characters go through hours upon hours of grinding so that they can beat a particularly skilled player, then when they do they're like "great, now we can play".
-
I'm going to camp and tunnel everyone who has the pizza charm just to increase the confusion.
-
I love "playing hide and seek" in this game. The more I see people complain about it being boring (in other words all they want is to be handed survivors to chase and knock down), the more validated I feel doing it.
-
I never get sick of stories of greed in the video game industry. Have they shut down Gamestop for selling used games yet?

Fair enough. :)

For those not counting, the vote is a virtual dead heat: 16 for Huntress and 14 for Deathslinger, if I paid close enough attention (I didn't count votes that said "both", "neither", or didn't otherwise specify).

Huntress. I like her more as a character and I find her to be less cheap.

To be fair, on here and tumblr Poe's Law is sitting in a corner weeping
It's alright, I understand.
I participated in what I feel was some good discussion about the charm yesterday but already, just since even then, the issue has spider-webbed into such a hot mess that I'm now just kind of stepping back and watching the whole thing grow like Tetsuo in Akira. It's almost as if the Pride charm was an alien invention that was dropped into the game to test all human variables that could result from such an act. I think we're getting all of them, lol.
-
There have been times when a killer was super sweaty with me and I simply thought "eh, I've got better things to do" and disconnected as soon as he knocked me down. Let him have his 500 points or however much for downing me, I just shrugged and moved on to the next match.
I don't do this regularly because I feel bad for the other survivors who now also have to deal with the guy's bullshit, but if I can tell that I'm against an eye-rolling killer and am just going to spend a miserable five minutes getting a paltry 6,000 BP, who cares. No fuming, just "whatever".

@Crowman said:
The change has been there a while. They normalized the perk rarity by their tier so all T1 perks are yellow, all T2 perks are green, and all T3 perks are purple.
So when you reach the level where you can start getting green items in your bloodweb, the only green perks you can get are of ones you already have. Same for when you can start getting purple rarity items.
Am I the only one who would find it a lot more exciting if the perks were completely randomized? Imagine getting the top tier of your favorite perk at level 4 or something. I'm sure that this could cause some issues I'm not currently thinking about but I also think that it would make leveling up and the grind in general a lot more fun.
-
@WaffleFalafel said:
For about a week now I've consistently been getting perks I already have when I level up a character. I'm not complaining, it makes getting tier 3 perks so much easier, but I'm starting to think its more than just a placebo. Monto had a similar occurence when he leveled up Nemesis. Can anyone else attest to this? I don't have all the perks, its about 6 full character's worth of teachables for killer and 5 for survivor. Even still, I think its more than just a lucky streak.
(Nice name by the way, I like it. :) )
But nah, for me the bloodweb seems about as "procedurally generated" (ie, keeps insisting that I take the same four or five perks I don't want as I patiently wait 30 or so levels to start getting the ones I've unlocked from other characters) to me as it's always been. There will be a little surprise here and there (I got Unbreakable at level one when I was testing the PTB with Jill) but it's extremely uncommon.
-
This may be a stupid question so forgive me, I don't normally play online games: Does this game not have various local servers? A few for the US, a few for the UK, a few for Germany, etc.? Surely we're not all just thrown together are we?
-
######### the Wraith.
I'm glad you managed to have anything resembling fun with him.
-
I don't expect to be treated differently because my characters have the charm, so I'm not going to treat anyone else differently for it either.

Just played a hag match that lasted a total of 2 minutes and 37 seconds (Looked at xp earned to figure this out) thanks to starstruck and agitation.
This was with only 1 person DCing after the last person was downed as well.
Curious if anyone's had a match that's gone even faster (maybe even sub 2 minutes).
Same here, roughly about 2-3 minutes. I've gotten that with Wraith, Leatherface, Spirit, Hag, Doctor, and Trapper (to be fair this was the best Trapper I've ever seen, he annihilated us).
It's not fun to wait five minutes or more for all the between-match stuff only to "play" a match that's even shorter. That's why I prefer longer matches (ten minutes at least) and DESPISED how frequently the killers and survivors spawned close together. My record - and it's on video - is six seconds. The match started, all four survivors were against a wall (The Game), and the only way to go was forward. Literally by the time we left the little room, Freddy's terror radius kicked in and he began a chase with someone. Six seconds. Six.
Thankfully the devs seem to have noticed some of the complaints about this I think, I haven't noticed the problem since the update.

'conspiracy' when you have people outright say in endgame chat that they played toxic because they saw the charm...
you're weird
It was a joke. I was referring to how big this entire charm thing has blown up.
-
Aside from getting rid of them?
Lol I kid, I never think a map should be deleted. That said, I find the swamp maps incredibly boring. I agree that they shouldn't just be a big open black pit like a small meteor made a crater, they should have some streams and half-submerged objects, ponds of water, etc. More warm climate trees and shrubbery dotted around the landscape. Ambiance such as frogs and crickets would go a long way to help too.
If I were to describe the current swamp maps I'd say that maybe they were swamps once, but have since been drained of all their water and most of the terrain cleared away to start leveling the ground for a new Walmart.
-
This is getting conspiracy-level deep.

This worked! Thank you so much for the informative answer and image!
@miketheratguy tagging you as this worked for one of my Steam friends and I. If you care to try this then #8201
Wow, this is so needlessly complicated. BUT, at least there's apparently a way to do it!
Thanks, I'll look into it when I'm back at the game. I MAY have also sent you a request through my Switch Lite, I searched for the name you gave me before and it did come up, but with one extra letter (which I'll keep private because I assume that you meant to as well). If you got something from "MikeTRG" that's me on the Lite, lol. If you did get it you don't have to accept it or can delete it, I was just trying to see if I could find you that way since Steam wasn't working. I mean I'm fine with friends on the Lite but most of my playing is on PC so it's fine either way.

LMFAO
that map sucks for nurse.
Really? How so? I would think that she'd be able to traverse this map and get the jump on survivors with ease. Hard to defend against a character who can float through all the walls, you know? That's what I assumed, at least.
@MiniPixels said:
They should definitely cut down the size a bit and open up some of the rooms if they can. More then this though I think they need to take a hint and stop making indoor maps. Every indoor map is either heavily disliked or considered "decent". I'm all for trying things again but they tried reworking the game, it failed, they tried an entirely new indoor map, it failed. The team needs to understand that this game does not cater to indoor maps and they clearly don't have the skill to magically make it work.
Please no. I love all of the indoor maps. I hate when people say to take away something that others like just because they themselves don't like it. More variety is good. A lot of people (again, killers mainly) seem to hate the indoor maps, primarily because of the pallet crap. But there are a lot of people who love them, and I see both sides doing just fine on them.
Some people hate Midwich but it's very distinct, there's no other map like it. Same with Lery's, same with Hawkins lab. I despise the saloon but at least recognize that it's unique, I'd never call for it to be removed. Similarly I can't imagine how anyone could enjoy the swamp maps - they're ugly, dull, boring, annoying for killers and tedious for survivors, at least in my opinion - but again, I wouldn't say "get rid of it and never make anything like it again". I don't like speaking for everyone else because not everyone likes the same thing. There are like 5 or 6 indoor maps and 30 outdoor ones. That's more than a fair number for people who hate indoor maps.

1,000,000 bloodpoints, which is the cap, isn’t even enough to fully level 1 survivor/killer, let alone unlock their 3 teachables on 1 other character.
The grind is legit worse than most free to play mobile games lol.
To me it doesn't feel like a grind because I enjoy playing, and because there's no really special endgame to work towards, but it definitely is a grind. I'd love for someone to do the math but I figure that it's roughly 1.5, maybe 2 million bloodpoints to fully level a character to 50. When some players are stopping you from getting to even 10,000 per game, that's...quite a long stretch, I'd say.

Yes, that's the original logo, chances are it might be a stylized thing for RE but they've changed the steam store page which has never been done in conjunction with a chapter before, which leads me to believe this is a full rebrand. Here's hoping that I'm wrong though.
Yeah I mean change isn't necessarily bad but in this particular case I agree with those who say that the new logo is more generic and loses some of the game's character.
-
This was the original, correct? If so, yeah, it's far better. But I agree that the new logo is probably just for RE, just as the All-Kill chapter was plastered everywhere (for the worse).
-
This is honestly fascinating to me. This entire Pride charm issue and everything that's stemming from it is a very interesting (if unintentional) social experiment.
I do want to say one thing: Though, like the poster said, it doesn't affect me in the sense that I find it bothersome, I do find it kind of funny that someone like Michael Myers - or more specifically, Freddy - would have the charm on their hooks. Only because it's out of character for those guys to have morals, you know? Like "I molest and kill children but I am totally in favor of gay rights". Lol.
Again, not saying there's anything wrong with a killer putting the charm on their hooks. I have. It's just funny when you think about it. I mean picture Leatherface with full human face mask and bloody apron at a Pride march, grunting and and having no idea what's even going on. Or the Demogorgon, who presumably has no concept of human sexuality. :)

Yeah, I played a little and kept getting ######### ping and disconnected for no reason. Btw my wifi is really good and I’m connected with a cable so it’s definitely not my internet
Exactly the same here, wired and all. Everything else I've messed with works just fine, great DL and UL speeds. It's definitely the game. I assumed that there'd be some slow matchmaking or other similar issues with all the PTB traffic, but instead the sheer amount of connection drops for so many people in my games has been really surprising.

@aroell said:
Yeah man, I have also have ping issues. Used to play at a stable 40 but now it doesn’t go under 60
Have you played over the last, say, six hours by any chance? That's the only time I've played the vanilla game this week (was in the PTB for a couple days, didn't play for a couple of days before that) and the amount of connection issues between all the matches was like nothing I've ever seen.

I just assume that most killers interpret crouching up and down as T-bagging, so I avoid doing that. Would be quite a skill if I could put some military grade message in a set of crouches tho
If I want to send the killer a message, I either simply nod up and down at them several times (camera look up and down) or do a single, slightly long (2-3 second) "bow". Doing Hindu squats in front of them is definitely code for "screw you", LOL!

Very true! I always take a very tiny break to look at the stats and whatever before continuing, but I know a lot of people jump right into the new game like you said.
So far I’ve never had a killer message me without me doing so first, so I think it’s great that you do that often. I’m sure most really appreciate it.
Thank you for your response! I’ll definitely keep it nice, no salt will be coming from me hahah
Thanks! I don't play killer very often (not that great yet, this really is a game of patience and practice) but with any luck you'll be against me sometime. You'll know it's me if the killer deliberately lets you escape and says something nice afterwards.
And has the name "miketheratguy". XD
-
CRAZY connection issues over the last 4-5 hours. Definitely. I made a whole thread about it yet now I can't find it, I'm wondering if I somehow neglected to hit the post button, lol.
But yeah. Somewhere around 20 DCs and at least 4 AFKs just in the few hours I played this morning. My own game turned into a slideshow twice, as well. I've never seen it this bad before.

@Noz said:
Ranged killers will hate it because the ranged part of their power is useless. Blight will hate it because using his power will be a detriment.
Stealth killers will love it.
New survivors will be extremely confused by the layout and will wander around aimlessly trying to find gens.
The usual indoor crap map.
Ranged powers will be useless? As the previous poster said, the number of very narrow hallways makes landing ranged attacks almost a certainty.
Again though, yes, some killers will be better on it than others. That's the same with many maps. This map is Trapper's dream. Nurses will be able to go nuts. Meanwhile Spirit will be a bit restricted, and Hillbilly won't have the long lanes that he might on an outdoor map.
I don't think it's a crap map, it's just not perfect for everybody. I can't think of a map that is. Not everything should be outside and with loads of wide open spaces (though there's some of that on this map too).
-
I played for about four hours last night into this morning. I can't report any differences as survivor or killer, as I played both roughly equally.
One of my matches DID involve a hardcore face camper but then he let me go as the last survivor (I think it's because I stopped opening the exit gate when he approached and bowed as if to say "go ahead, take the win". I think I got lucky with that, he probably would have killed me otherwise).
So no, my first few hours of playing with the charm made no difference. To be honest, as killer I didn't notice the charms at all, Pride or otherwise.

@deathcheetos said:
Hey everyone,
Probably a stupid question here, but I’m very new to the game (got it like last week but I’ve been playing a lot and ranking up fast), and I’ve been watching the forums and subreddit for a while now and I read a LOT of posts about toxic/mean survivors. So, to kinda combat or balance out the ######### people, I’ve been trying to send every killer I play against a nice message. I’m not able to message everyone since I’m on console, so when I can’t do that I try to friend them to show that I like/appreciate them.
My question for the forum is; Do killers enjoy being nicely messaged and/or befriended?
I’m doing it to try to spread positivity, but if it’s actually just annoying or an inconvenience to people I’ll have to reconsider.
Some context info:
sometimes killers message me back and then they’re always nice, but mostly they don’t reply.
I send messages like: “Thanks for the game! :)” Or “You really steamrolled us hahah. Good job!”
This has probably already been said (forgive me, I'm headed to bed soon and can't read all the replies) but most of the time you get "silence" regardless of which side you're speaking to, only because they've already likely jumped into their next game. Most people don't wait. I do, at least a few seconds at least, just to see. But then again I almost always say "gg" or sometimes "ty" for something specific or even a sentence specifying "just trying to finish a challenge, you guys enjoy your BP".
Whenever someone does respond - as one person did this morning when he thanked me after I desperately tried to message everyone to let them know that I (as killer) didn't participate because one of their team was AFK the whole match - it does make me feel good. It makes me feel good as survivor as well. I like the sportsmanship, the politeness. I also always respond, it sometimes leads to a brief little conversation. Not often, but every once in a while.
So don't ever hesitate to make a comment to someone after a match, you never know if you're going to make someone happy. As long as what you say is nice. :)

See this is were im confused so any input is most welcome, also please excuse my ignorance if any.
Im a straight male (i do enjoy some Barry Manilow though so maybe not) with a brother in law and sister in law both gay. During Pride month i like to show support so put the Pride flag on my social media accounts. Ok.
Last year numerous gay people messaged me asking if i was gay, when i said no they told me i shouldnt be dispaying the Pride flag then as they use it to easily find other gay people so i thought ok never knew that and removed it.
I also know a streamer who had the Pride flag on screen (very small) showing support but was also contacted and told similar to what i was told and he also then removed it.
So can i ask what is the correct answer. Can straight Barry Manilow loving males show support by displaying the Pride flag or is it frowned upon.
Again please excuse any ignorance or outdated language i may have used, i wasnt educated very well.
I've been hit on by several gay guys throughout my life. It doesn't bother me, I find it flattering. I'm fine with them being gay and thinking that I'm cute as long as they're fine with learning that I'm straight and not interested. I know that's not the case for every hetero person and I find that sad. In my opinion unless your confidence in your masculinity is really fragile there's no reason to be upset because a gay guy finds you attractive (not YOU, I mean in general. In fact what I'm thinking of in particular is that case where someone on one of those talk shows was revealed to have a gay admirer and the admired guy, heterosexual, apparently couldn't take it and literally murdered the gay guy).
Anyway my point is, my characters are wearing the Pride charm and I won't be changing it out until it's been a while and I've forgotten that I'd like to try some other charms or I just decide to rotate. If someone thinks that it's a signal they're free to contact me and I'll politely tell them that nah, I'm just on their side. Anything's possible but I'm assuming that most players of this game aren't specifically looking for a date.

It's easy to go into every game in high gear because you never know if you'll be going against a highly skilled SWF who will require all the pressure you can put on them. But it takes a good killer to A. accurately gauge the capabilities of the survivors they're going against, and B. know when they have room to ease off without throwing the game entirely. Sometime it takes the whole game to do that, so giving the final survivor the escape is the fairest and most realistic gesture when you've completely demolished them.
That's an interesting way of looking at it, and I can see it as being an accurate assessment. I have to admit that the person who gave me the escape in this last match just 100 percent facecamped the other three survivors, and he managed to get two of them, hooked in the basement, within literally the first 2 minutes of the match. If that were me (I don't facecamp, but all the same) that big of a loss that quickly would really make me pump the brakes. I don't like fast games, I don't take much enjoyment in just outright slaughtering people. I'm not a good enough killer to say that I get the chance very often, but it's happened (tonight in fact, lots of AFKs and connection issues) and I just wouldn't capitalize. Sadly the guy was just as relentless on survivor 3. To be honest, had I not stopped opening the gate and bowed, nodding my head to him to just go ahead and do it, I think he would have happily killed me too. The fact that I offered for him to just take the win literally stopped him in his tracks and seemed to make him change his mind.
I don't know, when I play as killer I honestly prefer letting survivors live. I'll chase and smack and hook, yes, but I don't go for the actual sacrifice unless someone has really been asking for it, lol.

Yep I agree it's balanced because, pallets are so hard to find and far from each other (usually) hallways are tight so no room for dodging, honestly a great map for ranged killers
Right. There was a lot of confusion as to where pallets and generators were when I played. I also run Bond and that might as well have been nerfed because it didn't help at all to see distant survivors go down or get hooked and have no way to reach them. Similarly killers will have trouble getting to all the generators with how spread out they are. Aside from a (small) third floor the map isn't really much different from your typical outdoor map in size, it's just that instead of weaving around trees and car piles and other obstacles you're weaving in and out of rooms or around corners, hallways (nothing like the super long Midwich hallways), a couple of wide open areas, etc. The map can't be described as any one type, it's got something for every playstyle.
And yes, certain killers will work better on the map than others. Ranged killers will enjoy it, and Wraith is going to own it. Given how many areas and vantage points there are a sneaky killer like Ghostface will also do well. Freddy and Plague will have an absolute field day given the need for their victims to run away and find objects to heal themselves. This was, naturally, the case with Nemesis as well.
If I, a 90% solo survivor main, can lose every one of the matches I played on the map and still say that I had fun, then it's a good map to me. It wasn't so huge and overly complex that everyone was just utterly lost and running in circles, nor was it so dark with so many hiding spots that the team just hid. It was competitive. 2 or 3 gens done, now here comes the pain. Same as most of the maps that I've experienced losses on.

What about people that could watch the stream but didn´t introduced the code, because they hopped into the PTB?
I mean, it´s not like they said that the codes expire after 24 hours or something.
I managed to get the code but only because a friend of mine posted them on a forum that I visit. He watched the entire stream whereas I watched part of it then hopped into the PTB just as you said. I figured "I enjoyed what they had to say but now I can't wait to check out the new goodies". I mean that's a good thing, no one should be punished for that. I figured that I'd catch the rest of the stream later.
So while I did get the codes, I really do feel for you guys who lost out. It's totally fair to say "I missed the codes and didn't know that they'd only be 24 hours". I mean especially for a major anniversary. Even 48 hours would be far more fair.
I visit a code site that keeps track of these things as best as they can, but they don't always get them right away either. And I also don't use social media, I hate it. Since it's all the same to them - and since it would encourage more play and thus, potentially, more purchases - it makes all the sense in the world to give rewards through logins and so forth, not codes.

I mean, I managed a 4k in about 2 minutes before, but that was entirely down to the survivors failing, and nothing to do with my skill as a killer.
Having learned since then, a good killer would give survivors a chance to unhook if they were going down that quickly.
I don't meet loads of good killers, at least not many who adjust the pressure level if the team is doing poorly. I have, however, encountered a lot of killers who are good enough to give the last survivor the escape.
-
No. I absolutely adore the map, and I've lost on it (as survivor) three times now, lol.
It looks big, and it IS big, but killers' fears that it's too survivor-friendly can be laid to rest. Out of the 3 times I played on it there was an equal 2v2, one match where one person survived, and one match where no one survived. If the ranks are to be believed, one of the ones who were killed was a rank 3.
It's really not as bad as people make it out to be. It's huge and complex, yes, but that's what makes it unique. I was looking forward to it because I myself love to play stealthy games. That didn't work too well, lol. Seriously, people just need to give it some time, play it for a while like any map, and they'll become accustomed to it. Some will still love it, some will hate it, but it's not an egregiously poor map by any means. Not even close.

I ask because he looks like a freaking tank running towards you lol and his pallet break gen hit and punch looks super powerful just from a look standpoint
Honestly no, not really. He looks more fierce than he plays. That's true of a lot of killers though. Their viewpoint is just a pair of hands just kind of sticking out, relatively still, in front of them. Meanwhile the survivors see these giant strides and powerful arm swinging motions, it's more intimidating to see than it is to play. He also seems faster when you're watching him than playing him.
He's fine though, that's just the way the game is.

The issue seems to be people thinking it will be an issue and it not actually being the case, and then making threads like this acting like minorities haven't been targetted for smaller things.
Heres the thing, people absolutely will be targetted because of the charm, there is no doubt about that, but it will be a small amount and there will never be any way to tell unless the killer admits it, people already have LGBT things on their steam profiles and aren't suddenly using it as a reason they were tunneled so I don't see why a charm would suddenly make that happen

But don't think for a second people aren't targetted for these things.
Am I correct in interpreting that "F" word as the gay slur?
If so, what were they even basing that off of? The implication is that you had something LGBQT on your profile and this killer actually took the time to look you up and ruin your game based solely on your sexual preference. If that's the case that's the the most pathetic behavior I've seen in this game thus far.

Guys, be careful with the religious talk. It's frowned upon. I'd feel bad if either of you got in trouble for it since I kind of opened the door for it.

I was just talking to someone in another forum about this. There's the potential for the charm to be abused both ways: Some will unfairly claim that they were targeted for wearing it, while others WILL unfairly target those who are wearing it.
This is definitely something that the devs will have to consider, if they haven't already.

One thing that really scares me is to know people may abuse this charm, and then people are going to complain to the devs, then it would make people see pride charm with bad eyes.
Hopefully with everything they've (hopefully) seen and heard about the community in general, they'll know that it's just the toxic players being toxic and simply having a new excuse to do so. Unfortunately they may in fact see the charm as a catalyst though.
I'll just try to take this opportunity like I do whenever something like this comes up and ask any developer who may happen to see this (you never know, especially given the fact that the latest chapter is hot off the presses) to please watch the forums for a little while, look at the nature of some of the reports you get, maybe even join a few games covertly. You'll see that, while there are a lot of decent people who love this game, there are a lot of very petty people who abuse it as well.
I made this point in the PTB feedback thread concerning the upcoming report feature adjustment. The charm may be a good topic to mention in there as well.

Cool. The honest is truth is that I laughed and thought "wow, that was a PERFECT response" but then the angry faces threw me.
I'm glad you're not offended. No offense was intended. :)
