I know BHVR is claiming "people used this to dodge lobbies" but that sounds like a hollow excuse. Do they have data to back up the mentality of those who left a lobby? I dodge lobbies from ping as a survivor and as a killer typically only against 3-4 toolboxes.
I can only speak for myself but the lobby bug was amazing insight into how I wished to play as a solo survivor and it makes no logical sense (to me) for it to be removed. If I see a level 20 in my lobby when I'm at rank 4 (just an example) then I assume its a SWF and I can play around that as a solo.
It isn't a hollow excuse, people on this very thread are saying to bring it back because they don't want to be stuck with a low rank survivor in their matches, that is lobby dodging. Granted, they are the minority, but they aren't going to leave it in if it is being abused at all.

@Ghoste said:
This feature was only used for lobby dodging if the matchmaking system failed in the first place and mismatched players, so I find that argument entirely invalid.
And I don't know about you guys, but I see WAY more killers dodging than survivors, especially since survivor queue times have been much longer than killer queues recently (for me anyway).
Signed.
It isn't necessarily the matchmaking, the problem is swf. If a 20 teams up with a 4, then they are both treated as 4's. I am not saying matchmaking is perfect, but that is how it is designed now with swf.

Obviously, the neon Nea thing is an exaggeration, but if you were wearing Nea's basic clothes or prestiged clothes, you could definitely not be spotted for a good while.

Yeah, the new map isn't that good :/
It's super dark and has a lot of cover, it's huge, hurting M1 killers and Huntress even more due to lack of map pressure, and those statues are creepy :(
I got lucky and got that map when I was trying for the 3 grabs. Broken mirror myers was great!!! Probably won't like seeing it next time though.

If that were really it, they wouldn't let the killer see the items we're going to bring in, because what I see most is a killer lobby dodging with characters P3 or flashlights, that's no excuse
Killers dodge flashlights?? Maybe wraith.... I would be fine with items not being shown as well.

I agree with most of what you are saying. Especially the offerings. But you are quoting the minority of people on here about dodging lobbies. Most of the people here have stated they just want to know what they can expect from the people they are playing with. I have never dodged a lobby as survivor unless we were stuck at 3 for 10 minutes. And only ever dodged once as killer when 4 of the exact same blendettes with tool boxes popped up and i just really wasn't in the mood for it.
But survivors should be able to view offerings from other survivors as well as perk loadouts in the information menu in game. That sounds fair.
Wow, you are being very nice, I was expecting worse for my stance on this. I agree most people wouldn't use it to dodge, but some would and i guess i am just for doing anything and everything to improve queue times.
I don't like the idea of seeing perk loadouts though, that would make survivors even stronger and they already seem to have enough going for them as is.
-
It needs to go and they also need to change it so the killer can't tell if a SWF joins to help keep them from dodging. While we are at it, offerings should all be secret to keep people from dodging a possible mori. I think better queue times is more important than knowing the ranks. If as a solo survivor you get stuck with a 20, too bad, play your game and move on. Same goes for a killer that gets stuck with a 4 man swf, play and move on. You win some and lose some, stop trying to pick best case scenarios for yourself.
-
@kaio_stk said:
Surely it must be implemented, this information is crucial for us solo players, I do not want to go against a killer rank 2, 1 with fellow rank 16,12. If they are not able to set up a lobby with fair ranks, it's not me who carry the can !
Again, this is why they are removing it, lobby dodging. They are not going to leave something in the game that gives anyone a reason to leave the lobby. They want lower queue times.

The Rift has been planned for a long time. I don't believe it was ever their intention to release the skins as part of the Halloween event instead of linking them to the Rift.
You are probably right, i guess i just assumed that you would earn the blight cosmetics during the halloween event like last year.

Those are event rewards. We would have gotten those anyways even without the rift. Except now to get them it's a two month grind instead of a two week grind.
It was originally going to be tied to an 11 day event, so getting 2 full outfits would have been more of a grind than what the rift is.

There's also the problem that I am trying to play normally and everyone else is throwing games by saving in front of the killer with BT regardless of circumstances, going super immersed the entire game because they don't want to get hooked once with spine chill, DCing/suiciding on hook if they go down once because they won't do their challenges, killers running constant basement builds, tunneling and camping anyone who's the obsession, or intentionally throwing games and AFKing to get EGC to happen so they can do some bloodwarde/NOED cheese to get two kills at the end.
^ Happens whether I care about the Rift or not. I as a solo survivor do not get to choose to play with people who care about the Rift and people who don't.
Then there's the simple fact that it doesn't matter if I care about the Rift or not -- the Rift is what it is. A predatory, grindy, monetization model in a game that's already pay to play with other monetization schemes, designed to prey on people's impatience and time limiting everything so if they don't play the game constantly, they miss out.
I'd like to be able to play the game without having a time limit of missing out on rewards or getting nothing. Have you seen the free track? The only things of real actual worth are put at the very very end. Nobody who wants to play the game now and then or even an hour a day despite their claims will ever make it to the end of the track. To make me work for 200~300 hours and claim it's a gift and that I should be happy and honored to get something for free and that it's all an act of good-will at all is incredibly baffling to me in a game I paid for, paid for DLCs in, and purchased cosmetics in.
I think the free track has the best rewards, 6 hallowed blight cosmetic pieces.

A lot of people are viewing this as all or nothing, you don't have to hit tier 70 to get a good return.

10 tiers?
It would be shortened by 27 tiers.
27 tiers.
That's over 1/3rd of the rift.
I see what you mean, removing the tiers that have cells completely. I just meant that the 1000 auric cells could buy you 10 tiers. I was assuming they would replace the cells with something else. Probably charms (which I do view as worthless by the way)

Why does it matter when you buy the game? Because you bought something 3 years ago doesn't make it free. What about me who bought the game a year ago? What about someone who bought the game last week? I certainly didn't get my money back from my purchase and neither did you. That doesn't make it free.
They have the base game, they have DLCs, they have cosmetics.
They have 3 ways to make money. They don't need to shoehorn in a free to play monetization scheme in a pay to play game that's even more predatory in monetization than even the battle passes in free to play games. They have said themselves that the game is doing quite well and is growing.
Just look at the rift. Look at how many tiers the auric cells alone are used as filler. If you removed as many tiers as there are tiers with auric cells, look at how doable the Rift appears. The auric cells are a bait and are designed to make people buy into the time saver and you're falling for it hook, line and sinker.
Meanwhile, we got people complaining how so many survivors and killers aren't playing normally and are literally throwing games to get their challenges done. Glad you're enjoying the archives and rift, but many people are not and their opinions and criticisms are just as valid as yours are and mine.
If you want to be treated like a sheep, good for you. I do not, and I will voice as such.
There aren't many games that are still thriving after 3 yrs, I am glad that they are finding ways to make money without just putting out a dead by daylight 2 or doing something else that actually forces people to buy something. Calling it predatory is quite a stretch since you don't have to pay a dime if you don't want to and it doesn't affect gameplay at all.

The first is that they advertised it that way, they said how you will be able to get your cells back after you complete the rift which is true but what's the point if an average player can't even reach the top.
Second is my opinion, I would rather they don't give me any cells back if it means I get to complete the rift in a reasonable amount of time
I guess I don't understand your logic, what is the difference between shortening the grind to only 60 tiers without paying back auric cells, or leaving it at 70 but giving you auric cells which can get you those last 10 tiers?
-
@[Deleted User] said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/884604#Comment_884604
Except it was designed to not be able to be completed by the average user despite what they advertise. 4 hours a day if you complete ALL the challenges is not something the average user has time for.
It also isn't free in this manor, because even if you spend a $10 bill on it, you aren't getting that $10 bill back. You can only use those 1,000 auric cells in game. That's still money you spent on something and a $10 bill you aren't getting back.
Or, let us look at it another way:
You give me $20 and I hand you a $20 gift card that you can only use at this one establishment. Did you get that gift card for free, or did you just spend $20 to purchase a $20 gift card?
It is free in the manor that you don't have to pay $10 in the first place if you don't want to. If you choose to you do get rewarded with (or free at that point) cosmetics as well as store credit back. The value of which is debatable, but most people would probably see a $10 cost that gives you a plethora of cosmetics as well as store credit back as a good, if not great value. Even if you only complete half of the rift it looks like a good deal imo.

What's the point of having to spend the auric cells on it when it was advertised how you will be able to get them back so you can buy the next rift
So first you say you don't want them to give auric cells back, and now you say you do want them for the next rift.... which one is it?

"It's free, so why complain about it?"
Because it's not free. I bought the game.
A free to play monetization model has no place in a game where you pay for it, along with multiple expansion DLCs and a cosmetic shop to boot.
I bought the game too, 3 YEARS AGO. In order for the game to continue to grow they have to make money. As long as they can keep finding ways to do that without forcing anyone to buy anything, then that is a great job by them. They are even giving a free version to those that don't want to pay for it and you still get the archives. Sorry if it is against your gaming ethics, but I think the archives/rift was a great addition and helped break the monotony of the game.
-
Can't you use the cells they give you back and buy tiers? Doesn't that lessen the grind?
-
If you don't care about cosmetics then why do you care about the rift one way or another? That is all it is, just cosmetics. I love the battle pass because it gives me something else to do. The free stuff is meh, but it is free so why complain about it. You also can get quite a few bloodpoints which is always nice. I probably won't buy the pass, but i will look it over at the end and make my decision then (another great option implemented by BHVR)
-
@Stains said:

The thing is that you not getting stuff for free, having the reward be gated a huge grind means that the devs don't respect your time or your money, and it also incentivises people to spend even more on the tiers since they already made the commitment and that feel and that is a terrible and scummy way to milk your playerbase.
If the rift was free I wouldn't give a damn about it
Just look at the top portion of the rift, problem solved, you're welcome.

Just curious, why is it so hard for Killers to rank up but so easy for Survivors?
I don't know what the formula is, but my wife makes fun of me when I play survivor. I can't loop anyone and I am lucky to ever escape a chase, but I can reach the red ranks as a survivor. As a killer I feel much more competant, but I usually won't get out of the green ranks before reset. I have had matches where I feel like I dominated with a 3k, but only get a black pip.
-
I think the problem is that it is way easier to rank up as a survivor than it is a killer.
-
I personally don't mind it, but if people are using it to dodge lobbies then it needs to go. There are already enough reasons people dodge, they might as well remove what they can. I think they should also make all offerings secret so that people don't dodge because of a possible mori or a haddonfield offering.
-
DS. I don't tunnel, but this means the survivor gets to save it for egc and i either have to eat the stun or let them crawl out the gate.

I got the day of the dead legion skin. Also bought the scarecrow wraith not too long ago. Glad to see some of the good skins are available to buy with shards. The changes were much needed, these challenges were meant for the majority of players to be able to complete them, not the hard core minority. If the tome 3 challenges stayed the same, I would hate to see what tome 4 would be.

Wolf huntress
-
I am not a good survivor so I usually only play killer, but with all of the survivor challenges I have had to play more (mostly for the unhooks). I only play solo and was surprised how easy it is to pip as a survivor. I am up to rank 5 but i still feel like a potato. Killer is much more difficult and stressful imo.
-
So far tome 2 looks to be the best, 1 was way too easy and 3 looks pretty tough. Hopefully the egc ones get changed.
-
I liked the challenges that had you use different perks, they didn't seem too bad and it helped mix up people's playstyle.

No, it only counts base points

I thought they looked very time consuming, and it is impossible for you to get 25 saves in 3 games.

Encourages one person to immerse for no reason but to deny a mori and feel justified about it. And this is a dumb idea as long as it's possible to use identical skins. 4 hooks.
I agree hooking everyone once would be a bad idea, but 4 hooks would be bad too. With that scenario two survivors could end up getting mori'd without even being hooked once.
-
I don't see how a killer that can barely get one survivor on a hook is going to be able to get a 4k with an ebony mori..... I don't mind things as they are, I would just make them less common in the bloodwebs. I get way more of the ebony mori's than the other two. Make the ebonies actually be ultra rare instead of common and I would be happy.

@SolidSnake said:
Remember how it was when game just released? Darkness, tight, claustrophobic places with lots of corners to turn, or fields to be lost in, games that lasted really long because killer could not find the last remaining survivors... It was a great hide and seek expirience, where only infinites ruined the fun in games, but majority of survivors said that infinites should not be fixed, because "it's the only way to lose killer". Of course they were just bad at this game, bad at hiding and staying hidden, but they still wanted to win... Eventually majority of infinites were patched, but those bad survivors found another way.
And here we step into the new age of DbD, that does not deserve another way except "clown fiesta". When you see a survivor and a killer running circles around every single box, bench or other object in the world - it does not reminds you of a horror game, in fact only thing that's missing - is Benny Hill theme for things that happen in the screen to make perfect sense.
Survivors are not trying to hide anymore. They aren't scared. They know for sure that it's literally impossible to kill them all if they do not make mistakes, so instead they taunt the killer like a bullies, inviting them into the chase so they could show them their "mad skills" of running around the objects in circles.
Now a typical rank 1 game looks like this: killer finds survivor, they loop around the obstacle for 3-4 times, drop a pallet, break a pallet, proceed to another looping spot. When there is no more pallets left on the map - generators are usually done because it takes a way lot more time to "disarm" all the loop places than to repair all the gens. And even if killer will hook someone - survivors will instantly swarm that hook, and unhook the victim as soon as another of them will get hit, and then run away with borrowed time, or just instaheal and run away. If for some reasons the victim won't run far enough to make it to the gates (never happens, but still) - there is decicive strike, goodbye, have a great time! So let's say killer downed the same person again, thrid time - for that he need to tunnel really hard and ignore all the survivors who will bodyblock you, try to blind with flashlight or run around to make more red scratches... but let's say that for some miraculous reasons he did it, and did it faster than the gates are opened. Survivors instantly swarm the hook, surrounding the killers, asking him to hit them! And as soon as he does - they just unhook and run away with borrowed time, t-bagging at the escape gates. Turns out, the killer now plays the role of the victim, and the survivors are bullies who are not afraid at all and can do whatever they want.
And the developers encouraging this type of gameplay, making new, very open maps where it's hard to break line of sight a lose the killer, making game brigther and survivors having coloured suits that are easy to spot, so Claudette remains one of the few really viable characters for stealth gameplay. New perks do not discourage looping and encourage stealth, there is no changes to mehchanical side of the game, and the last nail of the coffin - are existance of the SWF mode.
Ability to play with comms makes game several times more easy for survivors and allows them to bypass lots of in-game mechanics. Actually, it's a legal way to cheat in this game. But people who run exploits or cheats do get punished, when swf premades who run comms - do not... Developers could easily either remove swf, or add voice chat to the game by default and then re-ballance it according to that change, but they perfer to close they eyes and pretent that problem do not exist. And survivors are happy. Remember how they protected the infinites? Well, just the same kind of people are cheating with swf now. They enjoy abusing this exploit, enjoy being way more powerful and gaining wins without putting any effort into that. And developers fully support them, giving a giant spit in the face to the all non-swf community of survivors and killers as well. Before de-piping was a good way to not have to deal with toxic swf premades, but now rank 18 killer can be constantly matched against full rank 8- swf premade for unknown reasons, so there is no way to escape them even after long and tedious (even game takes 15+ minutes to find) process of de-piping.
The game is a mess that screams for massive rework and drastic changes, but i quess as long as money coming from people who set up a giant hype about new killers who will be nerfed to trash tier soon after the release - nothing will ever change, amirite? I quess there is no hope of good old hide and seek gameplay to ever return to this game?
Kudos for the Benny Hill reference, that would be hilarious chase music for the clown. BHVR make that happen please! Also i agree with most of your points except that i do not miss the long games in the beginning. Hiding blendettes that wouldn't do anything, no thanks!
-
Most of them involve regular gameplay, if you find them tedious and boring then why do you play the game in the first place? Of course they aren't perfect, but far better than the alternative, nothing.

Fine remove every perk in the game. While we are at it remove everything on the map besides gens and doors and hatch. On the second though remove doors and hatch too. Just gens if survivors manage to escape they deserved it. Are you cool with those changes?
Now on the serious note whenever insidious is in my games. It's never to surprise people at gates, it's always to camp someone at hook or in the basement. While somebody probably abused ds. I find that more killers tunnel survivors even with the fear of ds and after that 5 sec stun keep going after them.
Geez, bubba must have gotten you good for you to still be this mad about a perk you probably only see once or twice every hundred matches. Get over it already.
