@Cable2486 If you cannot be civil, please move on. It's as simple as that. And just because you say something is strawman doesn't make it so. You 're the one writing posts that revolves around motives that you have created, not me.

@blue4zion said:
I actually agree for consistency, wouldn't like to see it when just passing a totem but for sure after it's revived a broken Hex
That could be a way to mitigate the issue.
-
@Tsulan said:
Killer perks shouldn´t give any notifications to survivors.
Or do killers get a notification that survivors are currently getting use out of Proove Thyself? Or that Spine Chill activated?
I think it's a slippery slope to compare killers and survivors: it's an asymmetrical game after all. It's easier if we look at mechanics and what they bring to the table in terms of gameplay/balance. We're not talking about killer perks, but about hex totems (Hex: Undying) and notifications.
-
@PleassBuiltInNoed said:
its not a debuff, and honestly no hex perk should give you a notification that it has some effect on you, you should figure it out yourself
I agree with the logic that the totem does not show because the hex is affecting the totems, not the survivors. That could very well be it.
Nonetheless, I think this solution is a bit non-intuitive for new players.
-
@Cable2486 said:
Because it's not hexing you directly, so why should it tell you it's moved a hex? Even if it was after it's tripped by removing another hex, what you're REALLY asking for is an indicator that tells you if you need to/should keep looking for totems, or if it's safe to ignore the rest to work gens. That's asking for quite the advantageous handout, don't you think?
By this logic, Killers should be told if Survivors are running perks like dead hard and/or PT as soon as they become active, so they know who to avoid or down first. It removes part of the gamble that's supposed to raise and/or create tension.
You know nothing of my motives, so you're essentially barking in the void. If you want to have a made-up discussion where you can be angry at survivors/killer, this place is not it.

It makes sense for these two perks, because they give you a negative status effect: Oblivious and Exposed. Undying doesn't give you any cons as the status effect.
I think you missed the thread here. My OG post said that all other hexes notifies the player with a cursed symbol + hex name except for undying.
@Warcrafter4 said that retribution and haunted ground didn't notify the player (apart from the statuses).
My response was to them with attached pictures to show that they, in fact, notify the player.
-
@Speshul_Kitten said:
Survivors are too used to having notifications for hex’s and honestly it’s the developers fault.
IMO there shouldn’t be notifications on hex’s once you reach purple/red ranks.
That's an entirely different discussion. Please stick to the topic somewhat.
-
@Crowman said:
A hex notification for undying likely doesn't exist, because it doesn't do anything directly to the survivor. Retribution for example only notifies survivors when the person cleanses a totem and becomes oblivious, but the hex perk also aura reveals when a lit totem is cleansed.
It's the same reason Blood Favor has no hex notification.
All the other hex notifications are because the hex totem has a direct affect on the survivors.
Ruin notifies survivors when they let go of a gen to let them know why the gen is starting to regress.
Devour Hope, Haunted Grounds, and NOED notifies survivors when they are exposed due to the perk
Lullaby only notifies when survivors get a skill check when the perk has at least 1 stack.
Third Seal notifies survivors when they become blinded.
This makes more sense than anything. Blood Favour is very visual though.
-
@ggezbaby said:
i don’t agree. Undying is fine. simply always assume it’s active unless otherwise proven wrong.
But it's inconsistent though. It's not a very nice experience for new players for instance.
-
I also don't agree that the aura read should give a notification. But I do think that the hex should be announced when activated for the first time.
-
@Warcrafter4 That's actually not correct: they do give a notification. See pictures below:
-
@BattleCast Also, not all hexes are shared knowledge. I could potentially cleanse a hex I have not yet activated for my survivor. I just think it's a little inconsistent, but maybe there's some logic I'm not seeing.
-
@BattleCast said:
Not sure but the fact that the ruin you cleansed didn’t get it’s hex status effect removed is enough of a tell that Undying is in play.
No it isn't. I could have cleansed Devour Hope, for all I know.
-
WAIT Ethan is @Almo?! Why didn't I know this before?
-
I very much agree on this one. I thought they wanted to make it more easy to learn for newbies? Removing the visual indicator of a successful blind doesn't seem like a good way to go.

I think you're overestimating skills of rank 1 survivors. I don't ever play billy (like once or twice a month if even) and I got it pretty fast, just a few games. I would suggest to hard slug if you want to be done with it asap.
Take hard slugging build - Infectious fright, nurses, deerstalker, coulrophobia (or some other slugging build you prefer) and just do only chainsaw hits until you get it. You'll practise really fast as you'll either hit your chainsaws or lose and survivors will be hovering around their slugged buddies so you'll get a lot of opportunities to get 2 chainsaws in a row.
Overall you can do it with any build with a bit of luck or you can just farm as was previously suggested.
I'll try this one! Thanks
-
Inb4 they give away the charm to everyone and think the event is rescued
-
@lowiq Exactly!
But I think NOED could be a special case. Since NOED cannot spawn unless certain conditions are met, it would not be a stretch to think that NOED has its own spawn/cleanse mechanic. I don't think it's likely, but definitely doable. It would certainly be awkward to have post-cleanse calculation on some totems, and pre-cleanse calculation on others.
-
@MadLordJack So you didn't read the post, or what do you mean?

Quick and Quiet and Head On <3

What a wholesome post ❤️
2k hours here, still love the game too

@Steel_Eyed I'm in the same position as you basically! But if I 'm not mistaken, cross-progression is coming. At least the we can enjoy the same perks on both systems.

Thank you!!

@Rizzo90 You changed the wording of my post to 'rift', when it's really about the Tome. I don't want to override your change but I feel that this sends the wrong message about the content of the post. Can I change it?
-
@Steel_Eyed @Jyn_Mojito I think the plan is to add the skins to the store at some point in the future.

@Steel_Eyed FYI the response is above

Secretly adjusted? Not a single tome granted the same amount of rifts as any other tome. Did you write a post on tome 3 that they secretly raised fragment rewards??
How about an easy fix to get out of the addiction: dont buy the premium path until last day of the rift, and then decide if you get back enough auric cells and if you get enough cool cosmetics, to see if it is worth it or not?
No I didn't. But to be fair, I did write about the second tome being good: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/127082/cred-where-cred-is-due#latest
While I recognize your point, I feel that there is a difference between adjusting the values a little bit (12 fragments) and almost entirely reverting a previous adjustment (57 fragments). I can promise you that I would not have created a post if they had gone back to good ol' tome 2.
-
@Steel_Eyed said:
Instead of completing the rift Week Seven of the last Tome, I completed it Week Eight of the current Tome. Sounds like the rift is not for OP.
And don’t buy levels with Auric Cells. That’s for Fog Whisperers to put on fashion shows at the beginning of the Tome.
lmao the bit about the fashion show <3
I'm definitely not as avid in playing the game as you are! If I don't complete the tome, I probably won't buy it. I'm happy as a fiddle either way! But just to be clear: the post is primarily about the unannounced changes to the tome, not the rift itself.
-
@Moundshroud Well, I guess it's good I find my own foothold then :-) jokes aside, we can agree to disagree and all that.
In terms of players flaming the devs: I cannot agree more. It is cringe-inducing and over-the-top at all times. I am usually not one of those persons, in fact, it's often the other way around. But something about this just hits me from the wrong angle. I get that it may sound ungrateful, but it's more of a principle for me. Anyways have a great day and thanks for the head butting.
-
@Moundshroud and by 'rift season' I mean Tome levels.

@ViciousRaptor said:
I was under the impression this was the case, I'm glad I know why now. It's a shame, the Rift system really made me wanna play DBD more frequently, but with this tome it's become such a chore I might not bother with the next one, should it be the same (or worse).
Yeah, I thought I was going crazy at first, but it is actually less progress now.
-
@CashelP14 Yes, I agree with you. The communication is inconsistent.

But you have already invalidated your OWN point. Clearly you (and everyone else) knows how the Rift works, fragments and all. The change in required fragments isn't a big secret. We wouldn't be having this conversation if it was done behind closed doors. The Rift is completely transparent. When changes happen, you see them. It is not my intent to be condescending, only to debate you on the merits of your argument. It isn't my fault that you have yet to provide any evidence to support your supposition.
But the tome is not transparent. You get the tome (with information about the amount of rift fragments) in pieces as the rift season progresses.

Thank you for being more specific. My only real response to this is that free fragments are still free whether they require more or less of you to get them. It is kind of like looking a gift horse in the mouth. I understand that moving the goal posts can be frustrating, and for that you can be forgiven. But at the end of the day, they are still giving us something for nothing more than playing the game (which we would be doing anyway). I had a local restaurant that used to give me points which each meal I purchased toward getting a free meal. After awhile, they adjusted how many points I needed for that free meal. I understood that they had done a cost analysis and had to do it. They were STILL giving me a free meal at the end of the line. Do you see my point?
Yeah, I get your point. I'm personally fond of the rift. I like the skins and the added layer of the game. If they had made an announcement saying they needed to re-adjust the values I would have been totally fine with that. They need to make money, nothing weird about that. It's the not telling bit that grinds my gears.

Nobody is forcing you or anyone else to buy Cosmetics, DLC, or whatever. They are not required to be competitive in the game. You are not playing a subscription fee past the initial buy in, even though the company does pay upkeep for you to continue to play. Yes, I roll my eyes at your comments because they are vapid, incorrect, and self-serving.
All the Rift has done for me is given me free cosmetics. Why? I don't buy into the paid ones. It was as simple as that. Free choice and options isn't manipulation. If you REQUIRED any of that stuff to play the game effectively, that would qualify as manipulation. Why don't you DEFINE for us what you mean by manipulation. Please provide the specific engine by which you think we are being manipulated here? Specifics please, no glittering generalities. If you aren't talking about the Rift, please DEFINE what it is you are talking about specifically so we can have an actual discussion about it. Stop playing rhetorical games.
Listen, I'm trying to have a discussion with you but I feel you have a condescending tone which doesn't feel constructive or nice. Can we just focus on the topic at hand instead?
We are in agreement that the rift is optional and that it doesn't give you a competitive edge. I will explain my POV, but just to be clear, from here on out I am speculating. I'm using the Oxford Cambridge dictionary to define the term manipulation. It goes as follows: the action of influencing or controlling someone or something to your advantage, often without anyone knowing it.
I feel that BHVR are trying to influence people into buying rift progress by removing rift progress from the tome. This is strictly going from mechanics of loss aversion and the social/emotional value skins employ. If you buy the rift you will want to complete it. If you have 3-4 levels left, you may pay 300-400 auric cells to avoid the 'loss' of the last few items. If you believe you will complete the rift in time, you may be more inclined to buy it beforehand. By adding and removing rift progress you can influence the players into (a) buying the rift beforehand, and (b) paying to complete the rift.
As I said in a previous response, why do you announce one change but not the other? Here's how I interpret it. Again, just me speculating:
Tome I: 340 fragments
Tome II: 393 fragments <-- Announcement: Look everyone we added a bunch of rift fragments to the tome!
Tome III: 405 fragments
Tome IV: 348 fragments <-- No announcement: Shhh, don't tell anyone we removed the rift fragments
-
@SenzuDuck Yes, yes, you have the option to play the game and all that. But I'm not talking about whether the rift is optional or not, but the fact that the premise of the rift has changed without it being communicated.
The manipulation lays in the fact that they publicly communicated that the tome + rift was too grindy and that they were going to adjust the values. Two tomes later they revert the added progress without saying anything. Based on previous experiences, players may buy the rift believing that they can complete the rift when in reality, they cannot. The problem is that there has been no communication about the change and that players can't see the tome challenges beforehand.
Tome I: 340 fragments
Tome II: 393 fragments <-- Look everyone we added a bunch of rift fragments to the tome!
Tome III: 405 fragments
Tome IV: 348 fragments <-- Shhh, don't tell anyone we removed the rift fragments
-
@Moundshroud @Moundshroud @Moundshroud I actually want to ask you the same thing. You disregard my post, apparently rolling you eyes to the back of your head in the process, due to a set of rules that you have presented without any kind of source. As if consumers cannot be manipulated unless there's a competitive edge or subscription involved. Regardless, my point has nothing to do with the actual rift, but rather the marketing/mechanics behind it.
What I call predatory is not the rift, but rather the action of removing progress in secret.
-
@SnakeSound222 It's actually going to be interesting to see if this is the case.
@OBX Yes, whether or not you buy the rift is a personal, unforced choice. But being manipulated is not.
-
Hey!
Back when the first rift was released, everyone complained about the rift progress being to slow. Essentially, the initial promises made about the rift did not match the reality. As of the second tome, they announced they would increase the amount of rift fragments earned through challenges. For the third tome they increased the amount once again. Here's the kicker though: In the latest tome (fourth) they reverted the changes they made from the first tome. They removed a total of 57 earnable fragments from the tome. They haven't said a word about it which, for me at least, makes it seem like a scummy business tactic.
You can read more about it in this post I made a couple of weeks back: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/185325/rift-progress-nerfed-again/p1
-
I'm fine with changing the rift. I'm not fine with them not telling anyone about it. I have 7 levels left of the rift. Thankfully I didn't buy it preemptively this time.

So I'm not sure where all the toxicity comes from, because I have a few hundred hours in the game and have NEVER received a toxic message. Not one. I haven't broken past level 15 Killer, but I also tend to run NoEd because I'm a dumpster fire Killer that whiffs hits CONSTANTLY.
I guess what I'm getting at, is it more toxic the closer you are to red rank? Am I spared all that because I'm a Baby Killer?
This is an interesting observation. I haven't been below purple/red rank for quite some time so I can't really say. I do remember reacting to the amount of toxicity in the game when I was new. Either way, I hope your toxicity-free streak continues :-)

I don't really mind it either if i do see it, it's them either venting their frustrations, which i'm fine with them doing as it'll help them calm down, or they're trying to provoke you, in which case silence is also the best weapon.
I agree that silence probably is the best response. Don't feed the trolls and all that. But sometimes I just can't help myself.

I love how I made a post about this exact thing asking “Why is it toxic for the killer to play the game but then it’s not for you send them death threats” and I was surprised most of the comments were defending that behavior. Like I could somewhat understand if they admit they are toxic and try to say the other person is also no matter how dumb it still is. Alas no they think only the killer is in the wrong cuz he had Noed so they deserve to be told to kill themselves. Then as you said as well the rest of the player base will defend them for it. Now this goes both ways no bias here but we know it’s more of a survivor side thing but all sides do it.
That is crazy! But I'm not surprised at all. At least there is some comfort in knowing that I'm not alone :)

It completely depends on my mood tbh. If they slip just a little I´ll turn their ######### against them if I feel like doing so. Sometimes I either ignore it or do what @Kebek said.
It´s totally baffling though, I played League of Legends up to Diamond league many years ago but the "Kxs" BS was nowhere near as prevalent as it is among DBD players when they play survivor.
Everyone I ask says the same thing. Why is DBD so much worse than other games?

I was wondering about this too. I couldn't hear the heartbeat at all with the new killer.

Yes, exactly! The prompt is always available when walking, as opposed to when running. Just release the button as you want to drop the pallet and you'll be all set. Happy stun-hunting <3

Hell nah. Recovery bar always comes first. If I'm being chased and try to tuick heal you when you;ve been down for over 30 seconds and that bar aint full you're on my "do not unhook, ever" list.
Naturally! The recovery bar is completed in my scenario, as implied by the line ”waiting to be picked up”.
