I watch tru3ta1ent sometimes and lately I am seeing in videos of him playing killer, he simply slugs everyone but doesn't say why. Today he released a video titled the same as this thread. Why is he playing like this? What point is he attempting to make?

I had mostly good games today with only one game of the knockout borefest game. Happy I didn’t see it more

What happened to being able to counter gen rushing? It's funny how all the survivors are asking for handholding (basekit BT, free unhook when camped, basekit unbreakable, etc.) and killers just get all their anti-gen perks nerfed lol.

unbreakable should not be basekit but basekit bt and the anti camp meter are not handholding. They are actually fixes to the game because getting unhooked with a camping killer without bt was terrible and facecamping was a problem especially with bubba….geee who would have thought.

Hello, friend! It is good to see you.

Well, I just woke up and the dev update had already been posted, I am still trying to process everything. But, after reading it, I must say that I do not like it, at all.

Now, don't get me wrong, strength-wise it solves most if not all of his issues. Chasing an awake Survivor is now viable, the Teleport is very strong, and I am guessing the Alarm Clocks no longer grant you temporary immunity, which is excellent. However, the gameplay loop with him remains the same, trap and teleport.

And well, that is what I have an issue with. Because I don't like that gameplay loop, it isn't the one Freddy originally had and it is not the one I want to play with. The whole point of my own campaign was to get Old Freddy back, and granted we were eventually told it wasn't going to happen, but I never wanted Freddy to keep the basics of his post-rework power. These changes are positive to the game because Freddy really needed buffs, but they aren't positive to me in particular.

    damn

As annoying as it is to say this: the question isn't specific enough. I think at high or even mid MMR you have to tunnel, just because of how fast they do the gens vs your time to kill. And MMR being hidden means everyone thinks they're on top. That's why it's hard to answer.

I think I hover at pretty high MMR. For me, tunneling or hook juggling only 2 people is necessary, except in the small window of time I get put with consistently mid survivors. I've even started using coins to count hooks, because I don't want to forget, since the game hides individual hooks from you on purpose, and then I lose the match from accidentally playing nice. If you play Nurse or Blight, you probably don't need to tunnel. But against the very top survivors, all killers will need to tunnel.

“I think I hover at pretty high MMR.”

Lmao how? You always say that you tie in every game. And you say killers are super weak and how all of them suck. So how are you in high mmr

Instant Mori on 3rd survivor down is not possible with Hatch offerings how they are. That's a guaranteed escape, cause Survivors just run away from the location of the hatch offering and the 4th gets out for free with no way for the killer to contest.

The only way you stop slugging for the 4k is you give the Killer Instinct on the 4th survivor when the 3rd survivor dies, then buff Sole Survivor to block this effect.

then just get rid of the hatch offering.

This is basically every other survivor game these days. The rate at which it happens now is actually insane. When I started playing years ago it was a once in awhile type of thing that wasn't a huge deal. Nowadays you can't get away from it. Some killer mains will whine about any changes but the game is becoming borderline unplayable for anyone who isn't playing in an organized group.

I don’t want to exaggerate but it’s been so common recently it’s kind of sad. Unfortunately I expect the worst

Same here. I have thousands of Cakes and BPS on my characters, but I just dont want to use them. I only use them during the Anniversary, but it just feels bad to use them and then just get slugged to death and end up with 3k points or so. (In general, I think that a BPS or Cake should count double for the person using it, more incentive to actually use them)

    @Topic:

Yeah, something like this should and most likely will happen. I dont care if it is some form of pickup or faster bleedout, but getting slugged for up to 4 minutes without anything to do against it is just not fun. And not needed as well, especially if the Killer is prolonging a game tehy already won.

I had the killer slug us out like with 4 straight games. A wesker and a plague joined in on the fun

They both operate off of being healthy, and don't work while you're injured, so getting value off of 1 allows you to get value off of the other. But Dramaturgy in particular is really strong. You know, you having no easy Killer Matches does not mean that Killer is hard. If Killer is hard FOR YOU, this might be a FOR YOU-problem.

But you can objectively say that Coldwind is really bad ressource-wise and Rancid Abattoir is a prime example for that. They made a bunch of super-unsafe Tiles and replaced Jungle Gyms, Longwalls and even T/L-Walls (which were fair to begin with) with those. Obviously the map gets worse with that.

(And especially Rancid Abattoir was quite empty before that)

rancid is such a bad map. Everytime I load into that map I expect to die. Too many dead zones and the pallet in that main building is a joke

  • @MaTtRoSiTy said:

I thought the game was Dead by DAYLIGHT? Not Dead in the middle of the day. They absolutely killed the ambience and I so hate what they did with Coldwind.

yes we get it, you want to win at 5 gens all the time

  • @danielmaster87 said:

I just kinda stopped reading after the exaggeration of Overcharge and the complaints about tunneling.

The only way in which that patch was a failure is that it wasn't upheld. It brought amazing changes for the game. But basically every killer buff except for the very miniscule kick/attack cooldown speed buffs have been reverted. In essence, killers got crumbs, and survivors got crumbs taken away. Dead Hard, OTR, and all that still being meta kind of speaks for itself.

Pretty much the only reason the patch gets hated so much is because killers got lots of buffs and survivors got lots of nerfs. But like I said, it's all been reversed pretty much. So it's very petty that, to this day, people call it the patch that killed the game/made it killer sided. Notice how the survivors who knew how to play were barely affected, and didn't complain.

There's a certain kind of tension that two people create towards one another, where they misinterpreted one comment or multiple comments, or heard secondhand that the person said something about them, and that kind of sits in their minds, feeds confirmation bias, feeds paranoia, until finally they have an almost religious-level belief in the idea that this person hates them, or should be a target of reciprocal hate. I think a majority of players have done the same thing in this game, except instead of a person they've set their sights on the killer role, people who play the role effectively, and anything that makes that role/those players stronger. If you look at the facts, and the bigger picture, killers really aren't that powerful, and haven't had much in the way of buffs. The power difference between them and survivors, when both sides play effectively, and the difference in power between each's buffs as well, are worlds apart.

“If you look at the facts, and the bigger picture, killers really aren't that powerful”

Or your just not that good

Seriously, if someone has a problem with being on the floor for 4 minutes, why are they even playing? ( Don't say anything about time, you're playing a computer game and everyone who plays a computer game has time) It's part of the game.

In my opinion, developers have meddled far too much in the game of killers in recent years anyway.

So I ask: what will killers be allowed to do in the future? Survivors complain about every little thing, and it's gotten ridiculous and nerdy.

Cote would say: go play something else. Civilization for all I care.

  • ”just give the hatch?”
when did i say that? The game has always allowed (since 2022) killers to close hatch when it’s a 1v1 and guard the gates after. Take the 3k and go for the 4th

  • yeah Idk about all of that. I can understand being annoyed when both survivors are hiding in lockers when it’s a 1v2. At that point do your thing. But if it’s a normal game and it’s a 1v2 I’m not gonna blame survivors for “conceding” because the killer wants to avoid the hatch. Thats on the killer. They are the ones wasting time there.

My solution to “slug for the 4k” is just that when it’s a 1v2, the next survivor that gets downed gets moried automatically. No option. The killer gets their win and doesn’t get punished. No more bleedouts in that situation. And it helps end the match faster. Faster bleedout system would be the solution to when killers are 4 man slugging.

Perks shouldn't play the game for you. I get it feels great not having to lift a finger because the hexes are doing all the work, but it's not only survivors who need to try in this game while you cruise along on easy mode. There's only one person playing dumb about this perk. You wouldn't be defending it to the death the way you are if you weren't getting something out of it. No one cares this strongly about a bad perk, so no one believes you when you're trying to downplay it.

yep everyone knows this perk is broken but ofc it’s fine because it’s survivors fault for not playing in a sweaty swf and bringing counterforce and leader

But Thrill does have counterplay. You break the totems, or if the killer keeps interrupting/guarding them, don't do them. You'll gen rush them before they're even able to use those perks. And enough with the "waste totem cleansing" talk. If you do a dull totem against Thrill, it would still be worth something, because it was an uninterrupted cleanse and the next totems with he cleansed faster (thus harder to protect).

None of that is counterplay. Just letting it stand and protect whatever other hex the killer has up their sleeve is not counterplay, and doing totems is countered by TotH itself. You can break it, sure, but it's similar to how doing all five totems isn't a counterplay to NOED: The slowdown induced by the counterplay simply changes the function of the perk, but not its impact. Either you die to Devour Hope being protected by TotH, or you waste so much time getting rid of TotH that you die because you don't have enough time left to do gens.

TotH is just unreasonable at the moment and it is going to get nerfed.

As for the OP: Rampant hook denial is, IMO, one of the biggest issues for killers at the moment and there really needs to be some built-in counter to it that has some more consistency, to cut back on bully squads and overstacking of anti-hook. I've suggested before that killers should grow resistant to stuns and blinds while carrying survivors with each time they are made to drop a survivor, with the effect resetting whenever a survivor is hooked.

I tried explaining that to him….

  • @Reinami said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/434719/im-tired-of-slugging-for-no-reason

Why i being slugged less fun for you? A hook timer is 70 seconds, meaning you could sit there for a full 3.5 minutes, with slugging its 4 minutes AND you can move around.

I never understood the survivor argument that being slugged is boring. When i play survivor and get slugged its better than getting proxy camped on the hook.

neither one are fun for survivors. You don’t do anything on the hook and on the ground. “You can crawl” that doesn’t do anything to help if you can’t get up

  • @Iron_Cutlass said:

This is a bit of a mild rant about how the DBD community discusses topics such as Generator Speeds…

5 Generators. Survivors have to complete 5 Generators, which take around 90 seconds per Generator to complete. Yes there are ways to shortcut the Survivor's objective, such as bringing a toolbox or perks to make the Generators go faster, but it often leaves them more vulnerable to the various Killer strategies available (tunneling, proxy-camping, slugging, etc.).

I see a post every now and then about how Generator speeds are too fast or how slowdown is ineffective. "All the Generators get done quick, something must be done about it," but within these discussion, I think people kind of ignore how DBD, as a game, is structured. When all 5 Generators are completed, the game isnt instantly over, the Survivors dont instantly escape, the end-game exists to give the Killer a bit more time to wrap things up or pull the game back into their favor.

Technically speaking, (while I dont have %s to give) a vast majority of my games I win as Killer, often only running 1 or 2 slowdown perks and relying on macro gameplay to slowdown the game and strategically deal with Survivors by applying pressure in the right areas. I dont win every game of course, but I do win a majority. A lot of these games that I win, a decent chunk has all 5 Generators being completed, but Im able to pull things back in the end-game or the game-state is in a way where it doesnt matter if all Generators get done since Id still leave with a 3K or higher.

Endgame IS important. A lot of people like to write it off about how the Exit Gates dont take that much time to open and how you are always going to lose in Endgame but it is far from the reality. Perks can extend the Endgame and help with much needed pressure, and you dont have to worry about protecting Generators since your objective at that point is to play for kills. And even without perks, playing smart can give you an extra hook(s) which can make the difference between a 2K and a 3K.

Overall. Im tired of people ignoring the impact the endgame has on DBD, especially when it can make a massive difference.

I do wonder if they got rid of all gen progression perks for survivor how would that affect the game.

The gen kick meta was the first time Killers like Trapper were stronger than competitive 4-man SWF's.

It was the beginning of the end for the casual player.

yep especially on maps like RPD which had the gens super close to eachother

  • @danielmaster87 said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3853867#Comment_3853867

Okay, so the killer interrupts the totem. Then what? He's chasing the survivor, and the other 3 are on gens, whereas if he was playing without hexes, he'd at least be pushing that survivor off a gen instead. Those gens should be getting done in no time. Y'all's problem with framing all this killer stuff as OP is that y'all give survivors no faith. Maybe you're right to. But if they can't multitask, or have game sense, or strategize, then maybe they deserve to lose. It was the same with the "gen kick meta." Survivors just let the killer do whatever they want, and don't ever punish, and then blame the killer for their loss. You tell me how an M1, like Wraith, Freddy, Pig, Clown, Ghost Face, is gonna beat 4 good survivors who know what they're doing. I don't think ALL killers are weak, as Nurse and Blight (at least on PC) are able to hold their own, but that the role itself is weak, because if you're not playing those 2 killers, you're not beating a good team. The time equation of the game won't allow you to.

I can’t believe I have to explain this to you but here we go.

    1. I just said that there are a lot of killers that can easily interrupt survivors on totems with their power or mobility. Doctor artist singularity are some examples. Not to mention that face the darkness also interrupts survivors and results in the progress being gone. And there is also the case of where you have some killers with second objectives like pig pinhead sadako that just add more stuff to do on top of the totems.

    2. You can’t be serious saying it was the survivors fault for the gen kick meta. Yeah it’s my fault for dying after 36 minutes vs a wesker on ormond because he had overbrine eruption and just camped the 3 gen. Yep i definitely didn’t try there……”survivors just let the killer do whatever they want and don’t ever punish and then blame the killer” this isn’t 2017 anymore as killers are much stronger and not every single survivor is team eternal that can counter everything.

    3. Everytime I have responded to you I always bring up the fact that you have said before that there are 0 good killers in the game. Congrats you said that there are only 2 good killers in the game out of the 40🤯

You can win with more than half the roster vs good teams. You are not playing vs team eternal or whatever ultra comp team there is. If that’s the only standard you have for a “good team” then yeah you’re gonna lose because you aren’t as good as them. 99% of the playerbase isn’t. You have so many good killers in the game, nurse blight Billy (I mean seriously how can you forget about him) spirit artist Oni plague singularity Wesker pyramid head chucky xenomorph twins nemesis doctor demogorgon huntress hag Dracula vecna pinhead dredge wraith unknown and deathslinger. It is very difficult to take your “killer oppressed and survivors op” takes seriously when you say that basically every killer is weak

Tell me how it's broken. Tell me how a killer is gonna patrol 7 gens and 2-5 totems, and not give up any time or pressure for it. Explain how survivors are mentally juggling more stuff and using more game sense than the killer in that scenario. And I'd agree with you, that hex perks are high risk/high reward. So why be so against them being strong? Like Undying, Thrill is a hex perk... to protect another hex perk. That's like having Bond AND Empathy as survivor, pretty much a waste of a perk slot. But y'all still want to complain about the killer having protection for their perk which gets destroyed forever once cleansed.

it takes 45 seconds for a totem to get cleansed, that’s not taking into account that there are multiples killers that can interrupt like doctor and the progress on the totem regresses to nothing. The gens also have to get done, people need to be unhooked and healed. The perk is broken and makes totems uncleanseable. But ofc the same person that thinks the gen kick meta with eruption was fine and that all killers are weak defended stuff like this

  • is this perk actually a problem? I never see any of my teammates bring it and I don’t own the character

  • @danielmaster87 said:

Maybe y'all just need to get good against slugging and tunneling. It's not easy for killers to simply execute those strategies. Everything has to go right for them for it to work. There's plenty a survivor team who could not care less about facing that. So you can learn to overcome it too. Your altruism matters way less in those scenarios. If the killer is tunneling, you can just rush gens, hook trade at the last possible second each hook stage, and 2-3 of y'all will probably still get out, as opposed to none. With slugging, as soon as you notice the killer's going for it, y'all can quickly move to heal each other, faster than the killer can actually down you, if you're giving decent chases. See, you can't just hope that the killers play nice for y'all, or that the devs nerf them. You have to improve as well which, reading the tone of most of the posts on here, most survivors don't consider.

And that's the smartest thing you've said, or could suggest: the killer needs reasons to spread hooks, or they won't. Killers are encouraged, not by the devs but by the game they've designed, to go for as many kills as possible with the least amount of hooks. It's why you see less and less killers with 10 hooks and 2 kills, and more killers with 2 hooks and 2 kills. Not only is it becoming impossible for killers to get large amounts of hooks before match end, they're beginning to accept that they'll be getting a loss or a draw at best, and simply play for the draw through camping and tunneling. Or a crazy all-out slug for the 4k, which doesn't work most of the time.

We came after Distortion because it was the #1 perk that encouraged selfish/immersed survivor gameplay. If the killer is alternating hooks to get 2 players out ASAP, who's he gonna see every time with BBQ? The 1-2 people who didn't bring Distortion. A lot of those people running Distortion would just use it to out-hide their dying team, and get hatch basically guaranteed. Even without those scenarios, it reinforced the idea that killer shouldn't get any info, which is the dumbest take this community's recently clung to. Whatever aura perks the killer brought, Distortion countered it. When Ultimate Weapon countered it, because it was screams and not aura, they nerfed it and made it aura instead. And in general, killer is really starved for very basic info that other games would give them as a matter of course. Killers basically can't hear survivors' footsteps, breathing, or injured sounds, and can rarely rely on scratch marks being accurate. So anytime they're tracking/chasing a survivor and don't have direct sight of them, they have to pray and guess where they're even going.

Killers don't, and have never had, the upper hand. That's survivors. The math of the game when all players are playing at least semi-optimal says that survivors virtually win 10/10 times. There's just no way the killer can end chases quick enough, or stop gens for long enough (we've long since abandoned that pipe dream), to beat the survivors before they're out. So I hear a lot of "There's no reason for survivors to play" all the time. My advice is for those people is to follow their own advice. If you don't like the game, just quit. Now, we don't like how the game is either, but we've got experience and vision for better game to back that up. Most people don't, and would instead demand that the game be tailored around their skill level (very low), with no intention on struggling til improvement like the rest of us have. That's not fair. And the sad thing is the devs do cater to those people.

It's my belief that the game will not and cannot improve until the devs realize they've got to drop those players. Stop caring about them, because almost all of them either play the game for 2 hours a week, or play at such a casual level that their gameplay is not dissimilar to a 5 year old playing it (not doing their objective, running into walls). Either way, there's a reason no other online game caters to those players. It robs the players who know what they're doing of a fun and balanced experience. If a player really cares, and decides to get good at the game, you balance around high level play, so that as they're improving they will reap the benefits of a balanced game. What's been happening until just recently is that the devs have (intentionally?) hid the bad balance of the game behind mismatches, through a bogus MMR system. Killers and survivors were constantly complaining of sweats they couldn't beat, especially the survivors since their solo teammates never improved no matter how much they won. Killers never got easier matches no matter how much they lost. They've just now tweaked the MMR, almost to what it was at launch (near perfect) , so that you're getting survivors and killers of you're own level. It's my hope that when they see that survivors just keep beating killers no matter what, they'll buff killers, and hopefully not leave solo behind either. SWF definitely needs a debuff or something, because you cannot balance for them and solo at the same time. SWF, and MMR giving mismatches, are the 2 things killing the game for us all, and in fact are tricking us into thinking things about the game's balance which aren't true.

“Maybe y'all just need to get good against slugging and tunneling.”

Don't you think it would be great if the game was balanced around hooks instead of kills? And that tunneling and camping were not just "discouraged" but actively impossible to do from a gameplay standpoint? Would be so much more fun for both sides.

I think the game would be better if we didn’t have toxic survivors and toxic killers

Maybe if the devs stopped punishing killers for hooking survivors by giving survivors tons of perks that work off of being unhooked, or hooks, and stopped nerfing killer perks that encourage them to go for hooks, hooks might actually be useful again.

There are people in this exact thread that admit they tunnel at 5 gens. Blame people like them for it

This is a fun little discussion that I'd like to propose here.

It isn't uncommon for us to discuss things we wish had never been changed, like BBQ and WGLF. Or things that we wish would return to the game, with the best example being Old Freddy. Generally speaking there are a lot of things from the Old DBD we wish were still around.

    But what about the opposite?

This is a question I think has never been asked. So imagine that I, GeneralV, have my way and suddenly we're reverting this game back to the Old DBD. Everyone has to return, there is no other option, but you're allowed to bring something from the modern DBD back to the old game.

What would you choose? One specific perk? One character? The add-ons would be included if said character is a killer, of course.

A modern event that you enjoyed, perhaps? A new map?

You can choose anything, but no more than one.

Because anytime anything takes y'all off gens, y'all call it a *blank* simulator. The game is in position for it. The players aren't, because they're ultra casual, can't multitask, can't strategize, and if anything in the game is hard for them, the devs say, "Well, we can't have that!" and fix it for them.

“The players aren't, because they're ultra casual, can't multitask, can't strategize, and if anything in the game is hard for them”

Yeah the person that has stated before how there are no good killers in the game is saying how survivors are just terrible at the game. How ironic

Count the hooks. If they have 5, then it's legit. They just got their 4th and 5th downs without using M1 attacks, and/or they got multiple hooks before rescues were made.

thing is that it was a doctor. It makes sense if it was a killer with an alternate attack but with doctor it makes no sense
