Everyone always says "just do the totems" to counter NOED, but my team always insults me in the end chat for not doing gens, even though I don't actively look for totems, I just cleanse them if I encounter them on my way from one gen to another, would it be better to just memorize their positions instead of cleansing them? Most of the time the killer doesn't even run NOED so it might just be a waste of time, What do you guys do?
There is absolutely zero, ZERO reason to cleanse totems anymore since the Undying rework. I really thought Undying was too strong and needed a nerf, but I dislike how they gutted the way it worked with Dulls.
Now, no ones cleansing dulls unless they're paranoid about NOED or using Inner Strength, so the aura reading is mostly useless. And the threat of the Hex jumping is gone completely.
If you're playing Solo I would just focus gens, you need as many people doing gens at all times as possible.

No it should be implemented when they launch MMR not a year before or more.
I do agree that they should have removed it when they reverted on MMR. It is pretty annoying when by the time I find a lobby, now I don't want to play that killer anymore and have no choice but to quit.

I love the shaming for laying a certain character just like the time when killer tunneled survivor for playing Feng especially with bunny cosmetic.
I used the rank reset bug from a few weeks ago to further complete my adepts on killer collection.
I did it on legion without add-ons and only a brown bp offering and after the 4 M2 hits for a daily stopped using their power and basic m1 the whole trial and still 2 groups decided to throw just because of the killer without any tunneling or camping happening.
Calm down its just a joke.

I mean, of course Lucky Break & Dance With Me supersede Lightweight (DWM is way more useful as a stand-alone perk than is fairly given credit for), but for generic base perk, Lightweight is pretty damn good.
I guess its one of those perks where theres a version that is objectively better but more situational. Sort of like how desperate measures with 4 injured survivors supercedes Botany Knowledge, but Botany Knowledge is always active in any situation and also has the med kit bonus.

It's technically possible for solos to do the same. It's just unlikely to see the avg survivor team because...
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/2Z6YZNCVKN7V/2021-06-06.png
Yup, in the rare game I get as a solo where we really synergise and go for bodyblocks, sub hits and such I always get an angry swf accusation post game.
I think its just because the disparity in skill for the vast amount of solos throws a lot of new killers off guard. When they get a team that isn't just bad they don't understand what is happening.

That is something i´ve wittnessed a couple of times. Both the killer being unable to pickup/hook a survivor as well as the "decoy" thing.
Reported all of them. But i still wonder how thats possible with dedicated servers.
Yeah I have no idea what causes it. I was watching I think Scott or Zub recently and it happened to them and he said it was an exploit that apparently can be intentionally done. Luckily I don't see it talked about much so it doesn't seem to be widespread knowledge.
Considering how jank dbd is I wouldn't be surprised if its just a dbd servers quirk.

Basically this.
I'm still trying to play nurse well. She's not simple at all. Someone has to invest hundreds and hundreds of hours just to get used to her ability. And, personally, I think that if someone has mastered her, I think they deserve to win most matches. Having good and powerful, but difficult killers is a good thing, and good game design
Yeah, a rock bottom skill floor is Clown or Freddy. Their entire playstyle is "throw/place gas/snare and walk backwards round loop" or just Trapless Trapper.
Nurse is one of the few things in this game that takes actual mechanical skill and not just basic knowledge.
That said I think the logic of "this player is good, and the killer they're playing is good, therefore they should win every time" is a bad design mindset. It's the logic that gave us a killer like Deathslinger or Spirit that more or less remove survivor agency entirely.
I don't hate these killers (love their designs) but I don't like playing against them because it feels like all the skill I've built up over the years doesn't matter if the killer knows how to just insta shot as slinger or short phase as spirit.
I think if I played against actually good Nurse more I'd ######### HATE her. But she's so rare that I don't think she's a problem at all. Same with the Sweat Squads. I've played against maybe 3 in the last 2 months.

I'm a survivor main and I never use keys, in fact I really dislike them. I really think they need nerfing as they're such as scummy item. If I load into a lobby and my teammate has a key then I normally lobby dodge as I expect the killer to most likely play unfair to that survivor (understandably), and when survivors last second switch like that it's genuinely pathetic.
If a survivor is bad enough to need to use a key, then they should at least load into the lobby with the item, and let the killer decide what they're gonna do about the item (use Franklin's, lobby dodge etc), rather than last second switching to prevent the killer from retaliating.
Same here, I hate Moris as killer and I hate keys as survivors.
Moris I stopped using when I started getting DCs from them. To be fair I only ever used them on death hook anyway (and even then just for dailies or rifts), I didn't realise 99% of killers just tunneled one player directly out for a free win.
Keys I just don't like as they feel like a cop out "win" for the survivors when losing. I've had games where I've 3 genned and they've keyed out, and games where I've been left to die by my team with a key.
I don't think they're as comparable as people say though.
If 3/4 players get out in the hatch then you played badly, nothing would have won you the game at that point, they can't open the hatch 2 minutes into the game. Whereas up until recently Moris could delete a player a minute or two into the game and make it unwinnable from the start.
I still think both shouldn't even be in the game. And while the nerfs won't directly affect me as I don't use them, I think it's long overdue.

So I got enough shards to buy a new character, I find myself playing killer mostly (pig more specifically) so I don't know what killer I should get. I have most of the killers that are from outside sources (freddy, ghost face, myers, pig). So yeah, any suggestions
Blight is a lot of fun, though he has a slight learning curve. But, boy, is pinballing around the map fun.
He's VERY weak but I've always enjoyed playing Clown, very simple to learn, OK perks, fun outfits.
Plague is a fun killer with good perks but there's a bit of micro management involved with her that you need to learn to excel, but she's a lot more dangerous than people give her credit for.
If you like FPS you might like Deathslinger, the chain reeling mechanic is fun but he feels kind of bland after a few hours, aim + shoot is as deep as he gets, really.
I'd avoid Trickster and maybe the Twins. It's not that there isn't fun to be had with them but Trickster is insanely map dependant to the point that 80% of maps are pretty much an instant loss. Twins has a relatively strong playstyle, but its very boring and not too engaging.

Started using this perk more again lately just freshen to things up. I’ve been using it with Fixated so I can keep track of how long scratch marks remain.
And I was reminded at how effective Lightweight can be in juking the killer. Provided the killer isn’t right on top of you, have some distance, and some LoS blockers, Lightweight can help a great deal in shaking off the killer. It’s very satisfying watching from a hiding spot my already fading scratch marks, and I see the killer start doubling back not sure where I’ve went.
5 years, and still a really good perk.
A couple years back on stream Horvath teased maybe buffing it so it made footsteps silent. That buff never made it in, I would have liked it for stealth builds. On certain maps like swamp a blind at a pallet is a free hit for me as killer as its so easy to track footsteps.
Right now I don't really like it compared to perks like Dance With Me or Lucky Break.

Wasn't the whe selling point of dedicated servers that lag switching wouldn't be possible anymore?
Is it even still possible? I know there's a thing where if a survivor throttles their connection on pick up hooking becomes impossible and they can break free with ease (or maybe thats a hack idk, seen it happen a few times to myself and others).

Like, DUDE, dulls may as well not exist anymore since the Undying rework. And no self respecting killer in red ranks runs NOED anyway. STAHP
-
Run Bond.
Trust me it will turn you into a SWF only player seeing how incredibly useless teammates are even in red ranks. 90% of killer wins come from that one teammate who is just a complete moron not doing objectives or going for unsafe saves.
I don't really play SWF anymore, but I have absolutely no problem facing SWF because I'm aware of what a complete shitshow solo is.
-
It does still feel like even with hit validation, the game is prioritising clearly laggy killer hits. I can have a consistent 30 ping but a clearly visible lagging killer (in some cases obvious VPN players) are still getting hilariously unfair hits.
-
I really hated that add on change. As a solo player, I just straight up don't bring rare items or add ons anymore, because I don't know if my teammates will be morons and throw the game or DC 2 minutes in.. It's not worth the risk, awful, awful change.
I get that they wanted "parity" with killer add ons, but killer add ons tend to have a more significant effect on the match. Barbs glasses and black heart on new Demo are a perfect example of the differences.
On the subject of BP, I think survivor could use a BP increase across the board. WGLF does exist but it forces survivors to compete with eachother for points, and many survivors just throw on BT and WGLF and farm their teammates because the grind is so immense.
I still believe the devs should remove perk leves, 95% of perks are unusuable outside of level 3 anyway.

One of the reasons people wanted dedicated servers was lag switching. But I can count the number of times I encountered a lag switcher on 1 hand.

There really isn't a better way to show how unplayable this is when it happens, I'm not sure if it's a survivor with bad connection and the way the game deals or interprets it is the result of this (If it is fix it, punish the person with the actual garbage internet, not anyone in chase against them). Odd thing is I don't remember this happening a few years ago at least not like this, I've only really seen it recently in maybe the last year or maybe around the start of 2020 and honestly this happens maybe once every 3 games for me, and when it does I don't think anything else in this game will make me want to DC and be done with it faster, in the bottom clip I just wasted 12 seconds with frenzy and now I have to wait another 20 to get the hit I would've guaranteed had (if I had missed that would've been on me) and I'm just over it, I dc'd right there, I don't care if you think I should've stayed, I'm not going to and I'm going to play a different game. I love DBD, played it for thousands of hours but nothing makes me not wanna play it more than that. Please devs if you're working on doing something about what you just watched in the clips above let us know, or let us know if this is something new (doubtful but possible, I thought this was an issue on only my end till my friend sent me 3 clips of the same thing, credit to my friend RETRO)
I've had survivors outright vanish in an open place a few times recently due to lag. Very annoying.

No it's fine, they are survivors. Only killers are locked because, you know, MMR might be here in the next decade and survivors spend more money.
Is this the part where we conveniently forget that they want individual MMR for each killer so people trying out a new killer don't get stomped? Something people constantly complain about?
Also, OP deserves it for playing Legion.
-
I think new Wraith is only quite strong with add ons. At the end of the day, base kit Wraith is just old Wraith with a widdle speed boosty.
-
The SWF boogeyman is real on this forum. The vast, vast majority are pretty bad at chases but get carried by the ability to optimise their time that solo players simply can't. People on here just think everyone who's playing with friends is some obnoxious "bully" who is out to get them.
I personally wouldn't care if they added a swf indicator. I like a challenge and am confident in my killer abilities. Would be nice if at least we got one in the post game lobby or something.
I think its safe to say that solo queue is pathetically weak nowadays and the stats show it, so I personally don't mind the occasional tough match against a good swf.
I'd say nowadays, 1/50 matches is actually a completely unfair 4 man toolbox squad that just completes gens in 5 minutes and leaves.

A rock bottom skill floor with a near game-breaking skill ceiling is bad game balance and bad game design. That's really not debatable.
I understand that Nurse players have been honing in their craft for years and changing the way she plays would really screw Nurse mains over, but why is this allowed to go on when it's a seemingly glaring issue with balance?
Because even though you're never going to play against those types of teams in pubs, Nurse is really the only killer that can keep up with absolute top level survivors. It is both funny and sad that the only killer that can keep up at that level is one that denies every mechanic the survivors have in a chase.
There's also the excuse that she's hard to learn so its OK. I have zero respect for pub stomping nurses though.

Going against a good Hag makes me reconsider if I really hate going against Spirit the most.
First guy to go down goes in the basement. They're already dead, they're just not lucky enough to speed it up by attempting escape. We all know he's dead. There's 15 traps all over the area and they're never getting out. The poor dude waits the full 120 seconds, and by the time the Hag picks someone else up I get to watch the hooked guy exit the game via spider legs from the bottom of the stairs.
I try to get out, but I trigger trap #16 and immediately go down after the second dude gets hooked.
Last guy triggers what must have been a very easy to notice trap on the Swamp in the grass and goes down instantly.
No one left with more than 10k bloodpoints.
I love Hag.
Hag is boring but at least she has counterplay.
She's a solo queue stomper, players blindly run the hooks and such giving her free slugs and multi downs. SWF can just say "crouch to the hook" or "She laid traps here, get her to chase you and I'll waste them all" and she basically loses all power.

@Yords said:
Yes I know I am late to this.
Freddy has hardly changed after his nerf, it didn't fix what people did not like about him:
Over the last few games, I have been playing Freddy. And he plays literally the exact same as before. You still just put a snare here and put a snare there and boom, that's it. His gameplay is still the same. He isn't that fun to play as or against, and it takes almost no skill to gain the reward he gets.
He is still a strong killer, don't get me wrong, but the nerfs might as well have done nothing. The only real nerfs were to his slowdown addons and his black box.
Quick question, why was the black box addon nerfed? It is worthless now and I really don't understand why this one was nerfed. It is fitting for an ultra rare, but it was gutted, why?
Anyway, Freddy is still the same as before, just ever so slightly weaker. Here is his gameplay: You get into a chase with a sleeping survivor, you put a snare down are the apex of a loop and get a hit if the survivor decides to greed the pallet; repeat. Or you get into a chase with a sleeping survivor, you put a snare at the apex of the loop, they drop it early; repeat. This isn't very fun, the counterplay to him nor actually playing him.
Compare this to a killer like Huntress. If she is chasing you around a long wall jungle gym for example, you have to watch her and try to bait out a throw and then run away. It is much more fun and interactive besides latency screwing both sides over at times of course. But with Freddy you just play really safe when asleep.
Why people dislike Freddy, and why they still do:
People disliked Freddy because his chases are boring, due to his snares, and because he gets his power ready by just existing.
His nerf addressed none of this nor changed any of it to correspond with the skill of the Freddy player. He is just so boring to play as and against. Why is he still the same? Because he was getting slight nerfs, not full on changes or another smaller rework.
Like I said before he even got nerfs, I said it would not fix what people don't like about him. And they STILL went through because a lot of people thought he was "too strong".
I remember old Freddy, and even he was more fun than current Freddy because it was cool to play him, and his gameplay was unique. Now, not so much.
However the one good thing the Freddy rework originally came with was the dream projection ability. While it is still gotten for free, the actual ability itself is great and a good way to have one part of his power for mobility but not like other mobile killers. It is unique and it should stay if Freddy gets changed again.
What he needs:
Freddy needs changes that add skill to his power in somehow, right now he gets use of his teleport and snares for free because survivors fall asleep passively. His snares should also be changed to take more skill rather than spamming them at loops, and yes he can still do that, the nerfs like I said did almost nothing.
Feel free to share your thoughts on if you agree with me or not, maybe even come up with a few concepts for how his snares could work differently.
TL;DR: Freddy's nerfs did not change what people disliked about him at all, he is still a very boring killer.
While I would like Freddy to have a higher skill ceiling, I don't actively feel awful for playing him now.
I've actually been enjoying him because now I can't just place a snare at every loop pre chase for free hits/pallet drops. And the removal of the slowdown perks, while not super strong on their own, makes his perk synergy less oppressive.
He's still pretty braindead though.
Chase to loop, place snare at mid point of loop and chase survivor back into it for free hit or pallet, repeat all game.
I also like that they've actually incentivised waking up now, a good survivor with an alarm clock buff is really dangerous for Freddo.

https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/YU3ZI60DVOQY/20210604234656-1.jpg
If you're playing during peak times then there's too many survivors for every killer. The matchmaking will try to find you a killer of close rank but if it takes too long it'll grab any free killer and dump you in their lobby.

@CrowVortex said:
Outside of his cloaking he has nothing going for him, just a hold W killer in chases, so why assume he will chase you for more than 10 seconds?
Especially when he has many perks that compliment the surprise attack aspect of him, like Make your choice, Dragon's Grip, BBQ , Sloppy, Nurses ect.
This is why most Wraiths play the (admittedly kinda boring) hit and run playstyles with long heals.
Wraith's gimmick is that he's a ambush killer, not a chaster killer. Committing to a chase against a good player in a place with lots of pallets is a death sentence for Wraith.
-
There's an arguament to be made that killers like Wraith don't take any more skill than basic red stain mindgames but thats more on the limits of the killers power and less on the player.
That said this ain't it.

Adding to these. The most fun I had against Spirit was when she was bugged so survivors could hear her grunts while phasing. It was nice knowing I was being chased and Spirit still had a lot of mind-game potential with a long lunge coming out of high-speed. While bugged her strength was still better than Wraith now.
(while the bug was still live) Otz brought up that it would be good if the killer could hear Spirits grunts too, so they could know if they were detectable. It sounds like a good option to give counterplay and still have Spirit be an S-tier killer.
For me, a down is more rewarding when there's actual counterplay, and I counter said counterplay with a smart move. That's why I dislike playing Spirit/Deathslinger and too a similar degree Nurse.

Hi, I've been playing this game for years, and minus time I had no internet, I've clocked nearly 2k hours. I've noticed as of late, there's almost always one of two problems.
1) Killers that are doing poorly get Gen Rushed.
2) Killers doing very well stomp the survivors and leave them with no chance.
So I have devised a great solution, I'm just not certain how feasible it is in coding...
Half base speed, so a gen takes 160 seconds to complete. As survivors are hooked, the penalty decreases. As survivors are killed, the speed doubles. So with one dead, it's 80 seconds once more, and with 2 dead, it's 40 seconds. 20 if 3 are dead, and last wants quick objective points before they hop in hatch.
This fix will give Killers doing poorly time to get some hooks in, and punish those that tunnel or are doing too well.
You could possibly up the gates to 20 seconds and take time away when there's people dead as well. 3.33 per person.
Gen speeds are fine, remove any speed boosts outside of Prove thyself or something. Generators are by far the least enjoyable aspect of dbd. Increasing gen times is not the answer.
The main culprit is just that against most killers (ones that have low skill ceilings/limited powers like Wraith/Legion/Micheal,etc), a complete idiot can run a killer for a LONG time if they have enough safe pallet/linked tiles. That and certain perks/map design.

Maybe its just an effect on the entity messing with the bodies of the killers like with Trapper and Wriath. Contorting them and stuff.

It is pretty disheartening trying to complete the last gen and running the killer only for no gen to ever pop, only to find they camped hatch for the last 4 minutes.

Gen rushing has many faces. All survivors injured and doing gens instead of healing, for example.
It's just the most efficient way to end the match as survivor.
Scott Jund also did a video about how killers are forced to take gen slowdown perks, since playing without them is significantly harder and borderline impossible.
I definitely wouldn't call not healing and going for gens "gen rushing". To me thats when I get a 4 man lobby with commodius toolboxes with wire spools and BNPs. Survivors that are literally queuing for whoever knows how long just to have a 4 minute match.
Completely incomparable imo.
Foregoing healing for gens is just smart time saving (against some killers like Legion its literally the correct play), like using BBQ on killer and slugging to optimise your map pressure. Exact same thing. I do wish they'd make toolboxes sabo only as I think with gen times being what they are, aswell as Prove thyself and such, they really are unnecessary.

It happened to me playing survivor last night. Killer downed me in basement after an unhook, and I fell against a wall. It seemed like he couldn’t pick me up. I tried to crawl away from the wall so he could get me, but he just left me there. Felt bad for him.
Yeah thats what happened to me the first time, seemed accidental. But then that survivor started making bold plays in the basement with BT and dead harding to that spot/geturing to not get knocked away.

I thought this was in the past patchnotes? Its still there?
Just happened to me on Badham, I'm afraid. That said I thought the old version was in a different spot on the long steps.

1.) As a killer, why would you slug for a 4k less than 3 min into a match?
2.) As a survivor, what do you do when a killer does this?
Just had a SM Meyers do this in a match, 1 died on 2nd hook, the rest on first hook.
been seeing this behavior a lot in killers recently and wanted some insight.
I only really slug if the survivors mess up massively and I find multiple injured players at once or something.
