  • ...just curious.. you guys are aware that killer tiers refer to map presence & applying pressure, not crazy OPness, right?

billy is top tier because he can quickly get from one side of the map to the other. he is still very loopable and easy to force him to have to m1. with fast enough charge & cooldown, he's more likely to get a chainsaw somewhere because you messed up and ended up in the wrong spot, but without addons it's fairly easy for him to be looped into oblivion. just avoid places that give him multiple seconds to charge his saw.. if you're worried about "curving", try running around something a little smaller.

similarly with nurse, she may feel op, and she may be, if she can blink. if you don't want her to be op, take her somewhere where she can't blink, like under the piers at the swamp for example, or under the big house at the swamp.. tight areas with lots of stuff in the way easily nerf a nurse into oblivion, forcing her to "walk" and her walking speed is less than your running speed. in other words, as long as nurse has to walk, she can't catch you unless you're hiding.

  • most times, prayer beads or no, spirit is just funny for an advanced player to go up against.

i love how they load into a game all happy and salivating or whatever about how awesome their "mind games" are going to be on these loops to the point where they spend a lot of time looping themselves around in areas i left a long time ago, forgetting that i can always just leave the loop.. just loop them once or twice to encourage them to go "oooh.. you want to loop, huh? smileyface", and then pretty much the rest of the game is them trying to prove that they're smarter than you, but they tend to stay in the wrong parts of maps while trying to do it.

i'm not sure why its so common for me to almost never use a pallet and get chased for so long during spirit games and then watch people get ez downed and yoinked the rest of the game, dc'ing because of the prayer beads or just because it's a super toxic spirit or whatever..

Technically all win conditions are made up. The difference is that mine is the one that the game made up rather than one a player made up, aka: The official win condition that you need to achieve in order to correctly state you win a match.

If you think that's wrong then what win condition do you think is the correct one and why, and why is suicidal hyper-altruistm more effective at achieving it than the alternative?

If you think it's pips then you should rush gens.

If you think escapes then you should rush gens.

If you think it's BP then you should still rush gens. The points for an unhook aren't as much as the points for completing a gen or 2 and escaping.

If you think it's fun then all of strategy goes out the window and you have no method of determining if a player is good or bad even if you claim you do, nor is there any reliable way to balance literally anything in the game, nor would it even mean anything to say you won, nor would it even be a competitive game in the first place.

first off, we've covered all of this.. at this point it's just BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH coming out of your profile.

second, you've assigned some term "hyper altruism" to whatever the hell you're talking about. there's a big difference between making sure someone comes off of a hook before they switch stages 100% of the time, and whatever you're trying to describe as "hyper altruism". IF YOU KEEP YOUR TEAMMATES ALIVE, YOU HAVE A BETTER CHANCE OF GETTING STUFF DONE. it's just common sense. if you can't understand this then maybe you should find something else to do with your time than keep asking me to explain it.

RUSHING OBJECTIVES AND ENDING THE GAME PREMATURELY IS LAME. i don't know how else to say it. watching people die so you can rush objectives and escape without them is also lame. if you are doing this, you are lame. squatting somewhere while repairing a generator or not and watching people die for no reason

read your own last paragraph.. i've been telling you this for days. it's a game, not a "challenge to see what squatter is the last man standing".. it's not EENIE MEENIE MINEY MO.. if it is for you, that's fine, but don't try to define the game that way for other people because it's lame.

please don't @ me or ask me anything further @NuclearBurrito .. you are either trolling or incapable of understanding.

  • based on my experience in dead by daylight, i would imagine some bozo is gonna add not saving the obsession from the hook to the new dbd meta just to make sure the killer can't get dying light stacks..

    just sayin..

What do you guys think ? 34s is a long time imao. If all 4 survivors use it it's bonus 136s from all hooks. Huh it's still better then having dead perk like it was before I guess.

i don't see anything about it saying it stacks.

also, it only works for you while you are on the hook, so you can choose to equip it, buying yourself a bit more struggle time if someone comes to save you but doesn't seal the deal, but you can't equip it to pause someone else's struggle timer.

some people want to exist longer on the hook, some people don't. i'm pretty sure they're letting us make that choice individually.

  • @NuclearBurrito said:

Seriously. People like you, that is hyper altruistic people, are the reason why Killers camp in the first place.

Someone like you goes in for a save on a camping Killer, they down you because you just ran straight into the Killer's face for at best a hook trade and far more likely a grab with the other person still on the hook, and then the Killer gets another hook and probably another Kill, and now someone else needs to save both of you and suddenly no one is doing gens because you have 2-3 people on a hook because someone tried to play Hero when that was exactly what the Killer was wanting you to do.

You know how often I get free hooks because someone chases me to a Survivor at a hook and then is downed because of it? Far too many.

So if you want to talk about fun? Rush gens and depip the campers out of your game so you can face some actually good Killers in the future.

You want to talk about winning? Rush gens and get out.

You want to talk about saving the guy on the hook? Rush gens thus forcing the Killer to abandon the failing strategy.

You want to talk about how to avoid toxicity? Rush gens instead of rising to the Killer's obvious bait.

You want to talk about pips? Rush gens and get free Gate keeper and Unbroken.

Always rush gens. The Killer doesn't have time to be standing around if you do, so a good Killer won't so you get your precious interaction and a bad Killer will depip until you never see them again.

these scenarios only happen in your mind, friend. this may be because you've witnessed people do it, but that doesn't mean they knew what they were doing. also, its a challenge, it's not supposed to work 100% of the time. what it is supposed to do is make for a better game 100% of the time, which it does.

all of these things you're complaining about are normal aspects of game play that i expect to experience as often as possible in game. again, your method of "winning" is totally made up and is just an excuse for a bad player to use as a defense for being identified as a bad player..

you seriously have a lot to learn about dbd and i feel bad that you are making your opinions so prevalent towards newer players with questions.

  • you can just not struggle..

a long time ago i wanted a button i could hit to kick someone in the face to deny their unhooking me, yet still stay alive for a better opportunity, but in reality if that button existed people would probably just use it to make sure only their friends could get the unhooks..

i think it's better to just let go.. you still depip but you're not feeding people who are farming you free points on a mega scale.. also, better chance you'll safety pip if not so much farming going on. FWIW

  • @UlvenDagoth agreed. not sure why @NuclearBurrito followed the drama into this post, but i think i really upset him in another post. now just trying to discourage his habit.

i really don't want a nuclearburrito following me around everywhere negating the things i say just because it wants to.

  • p.s. @NuclearBurrito

i would never ever ever trade 1 extra unbreakable and/or lightbringer emblem point for making sure every game i ever played was the most boring experience i've ever had.. :)

that's what people do when they are afraid, and that's okay, but don't try to convince me i don't know what i'm doing because my nuts dropped. :)

  • @NuclearBurrito said:

Oh and if you want to talk emblems:

Hook bombing ######### up all 4 of them

    * You lose benevolence because unsafe hooks have a penalty

    * You lose chaser due to being downed yourself due to running straight into the Killer where he can grab you or insta-down you if he's capable

    * You lose unbreakable due to at the very least being downed and probably being Killed

    * You lose lightbringer because you could have spent that time doing gens instead.

just cuz you're a horribly unskilled player doesn't mean you need to be issuing challenges friend :)

recognize anyone here? tell the community again how bad of a survivor i am.. this was last night :) feel free to check their vods & see what games with players like me are like. compare them to your own experiences.. til then i'm only mildly entertained by your insults & challenges.

Get borrowed time. If a killer camps do as many gens as possible until the survivor is about to die then go save the survivor. It's okay if the killer downs you in fact you want them to down you and not the person you saved. Borrowed time will give them an extra chance at escaping (and hopefully they have DS too so if the killer does go hard after them they'll get another free escape.) By the time the killer hooks you almost all gens should be done and if the killer decides to face camp you at this point he's an idiot and you'll get 3 or possbiliy 4 to escape.

When I was lower ranks I always used borrowed time and DS. Now I don't use borrowed time because I don't see many campers anymore and it just doesn't come in handy as it did when I was first playing and all the rank 15's and up would camp. But I still use DS because you'll get tunnelers in all ranks.

again, if you look like you're leaving your teammates on the hook to buy yourselves time for gens, expect a lot of them to leave your game, unless they don't know any better.. using a teammate as "bait", "decoy", or "diversion" while you rush everything that needs to be done without interacting with the killer is a good way to make your own games very bad :) it makes for a super crappy game that really can't even be called a "game"..

just because you are scared doesn't mean the proper thing to do is just be scared. just saying, again.

Pretty simple really, just cos you think you're a looping god doesn't mean you win chases.

Worst comes to worst your team gets mown down by poor decision making, then I just have to find the hatch before survivor #3 dies.

i'm sorry something about that offends you. GET GOOD <#3 :)

Also, having played a lot of Plague in the last few weeks, you are the person I love having in my games.

I just keep getting you sick, keep letting you run off, and you keep making my game easier and easier by cleansing.

The people that don't understand how fun and easy plague is when someone cleanses and forces the rest of the team to are the ones that single-handedly win the game for her.

if you keep getting me sick and i keep running off it sounds like i'm having a pretty good time in your game as well :) not sure what your point is, friend. :)

again, if you think it's fun to mow down everyone else in the game while i loop you around stuff and run away, i don't see how that's a negative for me in any way. "dip" :)

So you're tanking your team's chances of escape so you can get safer unhook farming points, all under the guise of having fun. You may be having fun in those games, giving the killer free downs and kills, but again, your teammates aren't.

And if you are worried about the killer not getting scoring points, well, that's a rank issue. Good plagues don't need pity cleanses...1 cleanse can mean survivors simply lose.

If I saw you in my game and I was a killer I would only go for you first because you ruined your team's game, and if I was on your team as survivor I wouldn't be having fun.

Sorry for being a little harsh, but like I said before, cleansing immediately against plague is on par with dropping every pallet immediately in the first chase of the game. Your teammates will hate you and not have fun. Killers probably love you though!

"You may be having fun in those games, giving the killer free downs and kills, but again, your teammates aren't."

--understand me when i say this. you are reversing what i am saying for some silly reason. yes, we have agreed that when you are having fun hiding and not cleansing, trying to rush objectives and leave me dying, i am not having fun. when you see me cleanse, you aren't. the difference is, you care, i don't. :)

"Good plagues don't need pity cleanses...1 cleanse can mean survivors simply lose."

--maybe that survivor is in a game that they don't possess the skills to be in.. perhaps if they learned to play against the plague instead of hiding from her, everything would be okay for them too :).

"If I saw you in my game and I was a killer I would only go for you first because you ruined your team's game, and if I was on your team as survivor I wouldn't be having fun."

--good news! i don't hide, and i'm bright red and white, or some other super bright color. a lot of killers do come for me non stop, and i enjoy it because that is what you are supposed to do when you are playing a game where a killer chases a survivor. :)

Players like you give me super free 4k's as Plague, so thanks!

Putting your team at an extreme disadvantage and claiming your way is the best way...yikes. What rank do you play at that this strategy works for you?

all ranks.. and you're welcome.. even tho i've never seen you personally in the fog, if the killer doesn't get any scoring events or fun, neither do i, and that's a very boring game.

i suspect you're just someone who doesn't like to cleanse, trying to say "thanks for the free 4ks" or whatever, but even if you're not legit, you're welcome.

i'm not trying to play boring uneventful games at any ranks, and i think that if you are, that's cool for you too :) if however you're trying to actually enjoy the game and have a good time, that's done thru scoring events. a game without sweet scoring events is just a waste of time imo.

If you really do want to unhook do this. Have everyone bring Leader and Spine Chill as well as BT and DS. It will unhook fast and once they attack they will wait 15 seconds and then they get DS

you only need BT at best. it's important not to get grabbed off while unhooking.

run to the person on the hook, grab them, but immediately let go. the killer will most likely try to grab you off while unhooking. the only difference between the killer grabbing you and the killer hitting you is whether you are holding your button or not.

if the killer hits you, unhook during the killer's recovery from hitting you.

if the killer does not swing at you, keep "faking" it until the killer does hit you, or you think you can complete the unhook without them swinging.

at a certain point, you'll have to commit, and if you get yanked, hopefully another teammate can rescue that person before they switch hook states..

if you get downed and hooked, your team has 60 seconds to recover and make a little progress objectively before they need to get you off of the hook.

if they don't get you off of the hook, find another team.

  • i am that good survivor that chooses to stay in solo queue.. i do it because i find seal team 6 games boring, not challenging, and not rewarding.

i'm trying to play a fun game where a crazy killer is trying to kill me, not hide and seek, pretend to be a boulder, rush an objective, & escape with no points.

this means many times i get potato squads of people that saw some streams and heard that no fun and no points is totally the way to go, but i still get a lot of really fun games with people that aren't all potatoes.

    just my 2 cents.

Well if you escape then that's 100% of the task. It's binary so there isn't any equivalent of "70%".

Bloodpoints aren't even a relevant metric.

congratulations, you 100% last in line, end of your class, with a technical binary pass only because i don't have a cookie or a bottle to give you so you can go nighty-night.

emblem points are displayed to you in a 0-100% fashion. so are category points while you're earning them in game. many "tests" or "trials" are made up of different parts. you nailed one of them. :)

No, the equivalent of cheating on an exam is using hacks to win.

This is the equivalent of easily answering all the of the questions on the exam correctly and then being told off for not studying for the exam that you already knew the answers to.

If you have a legit, low effort solution that is more effective than the high effort one, then if you are trying to maximize your winrate then you ought use that solution.

i will not argue this with you again, but usually a pass/fail win/lose system has some sort of threshold you must meet in order to be deemed "passing". where i'm from that number is 70%.. if you do less than said percentage, you are still a failure. keeping in mind of course that you had to "complete" the task in order to be "scored", so "completing" is not the same as "passing", nor "winning".

  • @NuclearBurrito said:

If the Survivors aren't potato then the games won't last proper length.

Optimal play in this game just so happens to not be what the progression system is designed for. But that doesn't make it any less optimal.

If the optimal strategy for a game is unfun then that's the fault of the game and not the fault of the people using the strategy.

i think fault for that belongs with the people that take it upon themselves to decide that the "optimal play" and/or "optimal strategy" is sub-sub-par performance and then spread that propaganda to other players as "optimal play" and/or "optimal strategy", not game mechanics or design.

as we've covered in other threads, just because you decided there's a "win condition" in a casual game does not make that true. some games, especially casual ones, are literally there just for people to have a good time with.

  • if the killer kills you, he has to put in effort to do it. while he is putting in the effort, you are getting points and experience.

the more effort the killer has to put into killing you, the more points and experience you get.

if the killer never sees you, you get no points and no experience.

escaping a level with no points and no experience is equivalent to cheating on a very important exam.

that's really all i'm trying to say.. as it is, people are already cheating on the exam.. you want them to cheat even better/worse depending on actions of the killer, but the actions of the killer are already making them cheat better or worse.. i don't think skewing in either direction is better than just learning how to deal with a killer who is camping and becoming a better player.

Ya no problem I just learned who to effectively farm with and at what rank with as killer. At rank 10 with Spirit using BBQ&C and Ruin without Addons or offerings. I avg about 60k a game. Well your lucky honestly I can't stand farming BP'S with survivors. So I give you massive props for that.

I switched to a killer main awhile back because I wanted a break from survivor. It ended up being on PC all I play is Killer while on ps4 all I do is Survivor anymore.

Cant really argue with you on any of the other points because I've been there on both sides. Though as Survivor I would rather play with friends honestly. I'm prolly the potato survivor of my group.

on a non potato survivor team, it is very easy for every survivor to get 28k-32k bp base.

add WGLF that doubles it, 56k-64k.. throw a cake or a bps, lets call it 75-90k.. if anyone else throws BPS or green envelope, easily over 100k per game, and the games are the proper length, about 10 minutes.. 5 per hour isn't asking a lot, so we're talking 250-500k per hour without even trying, depending on other survivors' gameplay.

i would say i average 60k bp as well per game, but my games are much shorter and i can be the first one dead to claim the 40-95k bp & move on to the next game.

Well, if you start going after someone else instead of hanging by the hook, there's not only zero repair speed bonus, but there is a repair speed penalty instead.

i get where you're going, but understand this:

if i as killer put someone on a hook, there should already be a repair speed penalty happening.. (25% minimum). also, other people are supposed to care and see if they can come help, but for some reason they think it's cool not to.. that means the team is operating now at 75% optimal.

if i leave the hook and find another survivor, that survivor is now not working on a generator, dropping the team down to operating at a max of 50% of optimal. if 1 person is going to the hook (like they should be), that drops the team operation down to 25%, and if 2 people are going to the hook (like they should be usually), the team is operating at 0% optimal speed.

please explain how your repair speed penalty corrects or balances the numbers in any way better.

Not the survivors fault your either camped or they are aware of the progression bar so grab you after a bit. If your being camped you can at least help them try and escape I understand if no one came for you on first stage and still not coming with you not being camped ofc. Also dont play survivor for blood points. After grinding all perks on my survivor main from survivor alone and then doing the same on my main killer. Survivors get a pitiful amount of BP'S in comparison.

thank you for advising me not to play survivor for blood points. FYI, i get more BP playing survivor than most killers ever will (on average). the only thing makes me have low scoring rounds are teammates that don't actually understand how to play the game in a manner that makes it fun and rewarding.

this is one of the main reasons i enjoy solo queue so much. playing with "friends" usually just has you on a team with a bunch of potatos.. in solo queue, i may get potato teams, but if i put a little effort into avoiding immersed player looking lobbies, its not as hard as you might think to find some actual super-fun games. even if that means half of the people on the team are actively trying to get me killed, that's much better than half of the players on the team kickin back and watching me die. plus, i reserve the right to play anything i want in whatever manner i want.

understand that i am only here trying to help newer players out.. there aren't many people that have even a fraction of my hours, still play daily, and still enjoy it..

as for it not being the survivors' fault i'm being camped, you are correct.. it is the survivors' fault i'm STILL being camped because they have not extended their skillset enough to be able to help in this situation, nor are they even trying to. they think we can all just blame the killer for being an a-hole together and move on as friends. that's just not the way it works.

  • @Well_Placed_HexTotem said:

Why would you nerf something so integral to the game just to appease a small portion of the playerbase who should be irrelevant to the core game design? I mean, you even have a Freddy avatar. Do you remember when Fred launched, and was complete garbage, but lower rank no skill players hated facing him, so devs nerfed him even more, which left him completely and utterly worthless in high rank play. And then it took over a year for them to rework him into a still very meh M1 killer but at least somewhat entertaining to use?

And you're looking for a repeat of that for something as meaningless as camping killers? Remember that any change you make to benefit new players has a ripple effect that really changes high rank gameplay. I mean, imagine how this game is right now and how any killer not named Nurse, Spirit, or Billy, are pretty much f'd against most players at high rank and you're wanting to make it even harder for them to get kills, all because someone new at the game might have a tough time, if their killer decides to camp.

But oh, it will otherwise drive away survivors! Well, won't making the game even more survivor sided drive away killers? Or to word it better, if you want to nerf "camping" for the sake of new survivors, lets nerf looping for the sake of new killers. Imagine a new player buys the game for Demigorgon and his first map is Blood Lodge or Haddonfield. He gets ran from safe pallet to safe pallet on Blood Lodge and he gets looped repeatedly on Haddonfield by Claudette and Nea with balanced landing. He uninstalls the game. Wow! Way to go. How about if we remove safe pallets, and make exhaustion perks on time use? Sure, it will completely change high rank play, but think of all the new players we'll be saving!

As I said in another thread recently, if you want to discourage camping, either stop making stupid plays as survivor, or ask the devs to balance the game so that a killer doesn't feel they need to camp. I just had a match on a swamp map with Trapper. I was able to set the two traps I spawned with before my Ruin was instantly popped. On a map that big with a killer who needs minutes of time to set up to actually use my power, I was f'd. The survivors (SWF three stack) knocked out four gens, let the first person I hooked die, and escaped with a key. Literally nothing I could do.

HOWEVER. When I hooked one of them in the basement right by the hatch, I could have camped it. Sat on the stairs, made sure I hit anyone trying to rescue. But I left the shack, they got the save and I knew they had BT so there was no point in even trying to down them. In your scenario I'd have been punished for trying to secure one more kill but in reality it would have been the smart play. There are PLENTY of scenarios where hard patrolling a hooked survivor is the best play to make.

It's getting sadder and sadder with each new chapter seeing devs add in these perks that change up hook states and timers and giving second chance perks but doing nothing that actually addresses the core issues of the game, which are that gens are done way too quick and it's entirely too easy to loop a majority of the killers for a majority of the game. These are the things that lead to killers camping for the most part.

freddy was actually pretty dope when he came out.. because survivors have standardized some crappy "rush the objectives and run out of the door" meta in order for them all to feel like they "won" something even tho they really just skipped half of the game, there are many killers that seem insufficient and get boned.

it's not that the killer is particularly weak, it's that the rounds were supposed to take longer. nobody was actually supposed to think a 10k-13k bp gain for escaping a match was a "win" when you can easily get triple that as base, or up to 6x by only yourself playing 1 offering.

there is a lot of things to do in a game of dead by daylight, but players choose not to do them, and as a random survivor on that team or as a killer trying to play a game, that mentality of my "teammates" or "guests" is really just a super lame thing to have to deal with. if you don't enjoy getting chased by a killer why play a game about getting chased by a killer?

@TAG survivors not getting camped can already rush the generators fast enough without a repair speed bonus of any kind. an even faster game would be even more crappy than it already is and also less rewarding/fulfilling for everyone. i'm sorry but i just don't understand why rushing even faster is even a thing that people want.. if it's because you think the other people on your team don't have enough time to finish their gens individually, understand that they're probably not even working on them.. they probably WANT you to die.

  • @Liruliniel if i'm going to depip either way, why would i help the people that are forcing me to depip by taking longer for me to earn my depip when i could already be in another game earning big time BP and having a blast? just curious.

No, this is not a post complaining the Plague is OP or needs a nerf. She's obnoxious and gross, sure, but not OP. This is just me looking for advice on how to deal with her as a survivor.

@SureSpear please don't listen to this barrage of "dont cleanse, do gens, don't get sick".

please see the currently running thread "Cleanse against the Plague? - Strawpoll" for more legitimate information.

as a quick summary: not cleansing only provides people with a really crappy game. the proper way to counter the plague is by running a circle around the proper sized object, since she is a ranged killer. she will have trouble hitting you with her vomit (of any color) and will be forced to m1 you if she can.

people that don't cleanse are pretty useless for anything other than staying hidden, rushing gens, and leaving to go find a game that wasn't as "boring" as the last one.

I agree as it is now since that just guarentees a death, but with those changes it would become more common practice as there would be no risk to the hooked survivor except maybe exerting some finger strain lmao. I feel as Borrowed Time becomes even more common since it would be BT and DS making that a brutal and effective combo.

Just my thoughts on the killer proximity to survivors stopping the progression bar.

if i'm on the hook right now and people don't unhook me within 60s, it's not uncommon for me to forget to hit the struggle button so i can move on to the next game. 60s is a very good amount of time to rescue someone.

if you want me to hang there even longer, i think you'll be surprised to see that nobody's going to want to do that (beyond players that just don't know any better)

  • @Liruliniel said:

Honestly I can't think of a good counter to camping as the killers who do it generally just dont care. I honestly hate people who do it. Low ranks I fully understand as people haven't yet started the journey as a killer, but I would like a solution other then reduced emblem.

The progression bar cant stop if killer is x meters near simply because good survivors will loop the killer within x meters.

a good survivor would not loop the killer within X meters.. that's what a really bad survivor would do, just FYI.. a good survivor would do what it took to get the guy off of the hook.. looping the killer next to the guy on the hook guarantees the hooked person isn't coming down (most of the time).

  • @ad19970

brand new players are supposed to be protected from the sweatiest (for the most part) by players not being able to depip past rank 15. the brown ranks are supposed to be for relatively new players.

at the end of the day the game is literally "see if you can escape from a really bad person who's trying to kill you", and if that's not what someone is into, maybe they're looking in the wrong place.

i don't think the game needs to be altered to something different so they end up getting surprised later when they find out it's a pretty big part of the game. you either want to play the game for what it is, or you want to giggle at someone when they walk past you and don't see you.. that's not playing the game..

What reward are you talking about? Camping tunneling is much more rewarding than trying to to 3 hook different survivors.

wow.. not sure where to begin..

if a killer catches and hooks a survivor he gets some bp for finding the survivor, chasing the survivor, hitting the survivor, downing the survivor, and hooking the survivor.

if he then stands there for 2 minutes watching the survivor die while the others finish and escape, he makes 0 additional points until the sacrifice is complete, and that amount is nowhere near the amount he would have gotten had he repeated the process.

if you do something 1 time in a game, you will always get much less reward than doing the same thing(s) multiple times. it's just math.

  • @justarandy said:

You need to make not-camping very rewarding and should actually feel like a lost cause for the killer.

Right now, a killer can camp the first survivor and after the remaining survivors try to punish that by genrushing, the killer will get rewarded with noed. It's a nobrainer and way to ez to get 2 kills with nearly no effort. The reward-work balance is off. That's what devs need to tackle. Once leave the hooks gets a great reward and camping (besides endgame camping) feels like a real punishment we will see less and less killers camping.

you just requested the way the game actually works. the game is very rewarding already for killers if they leave the hook.. most people's argument is that the game is unrewarding when the killer camps. did we lose you somewhere? sounds to me like the devs already tackled it.. :) not sure what you you said about a balance being off..

91 votes and counting, this is going great.

Obviously the sample size is too small for anything definitive, but I think it's safe to say most people active in the forums agree that there is indeed a right time and place to cleanse. Either because someone did it, or gens are done.

If behaviour twitted this strawpoll, I wonder what the results would be...🤔

if everyone who played the game took the poll, i imagine looking at the results would be about the same feeling as that first time you get to use bond and you realize nobody else in the game is doing anything ever.. :)

Yes survivors, Please don't cleanse against Plague, I've come to rely on the idea that queuing up as Plague means I get a match long OP version of NOED. Why is it OP? True NOED gives a movement speed boost and insta-downs, but it only lasts for 2 minutes at most during the endgame, even shorter than that if it gets found and cleansed, or is countered by survivors doing bones all game till no totems are left.

Plague's sickness on the other hand lasts all game long if survivors don't cleanse, makes them all 1 shot down-able, and instead of getting a movement speed boost she gains insane tracking ability since survivors become easier to hear (despite packing IW), and easier to see with the bright green fart cloud emanating from them at all times. On top of all this, they can't counter it by cleansing totems, and if they cleanse at fountains its not long before they're sick again. The best part about all of this however is that Survivors WILLINGLY choose to be in this state all game! 🤣

I love it when survivors choose not to cleanse, and take full advantage of it every time! Survivors have this belief that staying 1 shot down-able all game is preferable to giving her ranged damage that can be evaded with walls and objects, which is ridiculously amusing IMO. Keep Staying sick survivors, you make my job as Plague so much easier that way! 😜

props! not sure why that's so hard to see for so many people :)

I don't want to see an unlock mechanic introduced, but that is pretty much the only thing I can think of that would potentially stop toxic campers. The BP decrease wasn't severe enough apparently.

don't forget you could just go unhook the person.. :) if it's too dangerous for you to do alone (in your opinion), just bring a friend or 2.. it gets easier.

  • @Kebek :)

"So you basically just assume whatever everyone is doing is wrong in that situation and decide that your time isn't worth giving them even a chance. Pity that solo survivors don't share psychic link so that they can always know if someone is going for the safe, right. Maybe you shouldn't play solo survivor if you always assume the worst about your teammates and just play SWF where your time is properly invested with teammates that fit your idea of correct gameplay."

--my entire post was based solely on what I see you doing visually.. nowhere anywhere were "assumptions" made. also, i love playing solo survivor, have for 5k hours in game, and still play daily. not once have i gone to a forum and tried to get lousy players banned in some way for not playing the same game i am because 1) i assumed i didn't quite know how to play the game well enough and i instead chose to learn it, and 2) i understand that new players just don't understand and older lousy players are just beyond help.

this is why i'm here right now, trying to help shed some light on things that newer players should know when getting into dead by daylight.

all people have to do is actually understand that they are not "good" at "dead by daylight" and they have room to improve themselves, and it's really easy to stop seeing things they aren't good at as "things other people do that need to be punished"..

"Once again pity that I as solo survivor can't always know if someone is going for the safe or not. I should just always assume that if I hit the first struggle phase that my teammates are bad and don't know how to play and just suicide insted of realizing that non-SWF survivors can't always know who is closest to the hook and it's possible to hit the struggle phase even without killer's influence unlike in SWF where it's almost impossible."

--if the game wanted you to know what was going on, they would show you. it would also provide too much information that could easily be used to make sure all survivors survived every trial. what you do know as a survivor is that when someone goes on a hook, everyone has 60s to get them down before they go to the next stage. the proper thing to do is finish the gen you are working on when they get hooked (unless that means they'll switch hook stages), and get over to the hook to help get that person down.

you may get found on the way and be chased. this is good, it buys another teammate time and opportunity to rescue the hooked person. in the same sense, someone who left sooner than you did may have gotten found and being chased so you better go and find out.

good news tho, even if someone else does make the save, COOPERATIVE ALTRUISM is one of the best scoring events for a survivor, so go get you some.. it will also get your teammate fully healed much quicker and help keep them alive much longer.

if not 1 of 3 other survivors are aware that this is something that needs to be done, then it could be argued that what you are doing is not even playing a game at all, but just watching your teammates get skill check practice. personally i don't know you guys and while i wish you the best, i don't need to be there for your skill check practice rounds..

"I even get teammates that suicide after the killer leaves them and I head towards them for the safe, they suicide mere seconds before I would save them."

--i can't say that i blame these people. usually when this happens it is because they have decided for whatever reason that you don't deserve to get any more points off of rescuing them. this could be because you let them go to stage 2, or because you (or other people as well) have just been crouching not doing anything the whole time they were on the hook, making no progress, whatever..

"Tbh I'm almost tempted to just always go down first just so that I can avoid people who decide to suicide because they went down first. But that would be contradictory to my main belief to always do your best no matter the circumstances."

--TBH, i do this fairly often, especially when i can't find teammates, but not for the same reason. going down first gives you the ability to see what your teammates are doing. it also prompts someone to come and get points for rescuing & healing you. then you have an easy companion to run around and do cooperative actions with and you didn't even have to look for them. unfortunately there's also way too good of a chance you'll see 3 people doing absolutely nothing, or better yet, 1 person squatting and 2 others just missing.. if 2 of 4 players are in closets when i go on first hook (and it wasn't just for a few seconds to avoid BBQ) the game is already over.

you have now milked some super advanced strategies and tactics to use for your advantage should you choose to do so. hopefully your games get better.

Killers hate gen rushing so they make perks to stop that, but when it comes to camping they don’t make perks to stop that. Kindred isn’t the only one, but it’s not good. The point is is that killers can get perks to stop things they hate, but survivors can’t get perks to stop what they hate?

once again, too friggin funny.. i'm dying over here.. and i quote:

"Killers hate gen rushing so they make perks to stop that, but when it comes to camping they don’t make perks to stop that. Kindred isn’t the only one, but it’s not good. The point is is that killers can get perks to stop things they hate, but survivors can’t get perks to stop what they hate?"

Kindred isn't a perk to stop camping.. its a perk that happens to let you see that a person is getting camped if that is the case, but mostly it's a perk to let your crappy teammates actually see what others are doing while you're hooked. it's supposed to guilt someone into coming and unhooking you because they can see that nobody is coming (when that is the case..).

it allows them to see if someone is being chased and where that's happening so they can circumvent the killer on the way to the rescue.

this means nothing if people choose not to come save you, so ultimately what's the point?

Actual anti camping perks do exist and are plentiful: Borrowed Time is the best one, guaranteeing a safe unhook of the person getting camped, but this can mean you have to switch places with them to do so. knowing this, someone dying because they are getting camped is not an issue of a horrible killer, but of a horrible team.

even without borrowed time, it's fairly easy for 2 people to save 1 person being camped. if those 2 people would instead shiver in fear and watch their teammate die, again, its just a horrible team.

  • @csandman1977 and @Rokku_Rorru

let me quote sandman right quick so we're on the same page..

"Theres a difference between leaving someone to die on hook because you can't be bothered to rescue them and not being able to because killer is face camping. Yes a well coordinated team will have no problems whatsoever in rescuing even against a facecamper, but for solo players more than likely they wont be able to deal with a face camper."

---> sounds to me like a perfect opportunity for newer players to attempt to learn a new skill and begin their journey towards being a better player.. handing them a tool to make it more comfortable for them to remain lousy players just doesn't sound like a good idea at all..

why should the other players get extra opportunity to "survive", "escape", or anything else when they're not skilled enough to make that happen?

when i'm new at anything, i have to learn how to do whatever it is. if i don't attempt to learn how to do it, or even just portions of it, i'm only hurting myself and everyone around me. see how that works? it's not the people around you hurting you, its you hurting them..

  • this thread is super funny..

if you have bad luck with your totem perk getting broken, use another perk if it bothers you so much.

i bring prove thyself 100% of the time in matches because i like 100% bonus BP for cooperative actions.

many games i play my teammates will avoid cooperative actions at all costs because that's how they know they're "good" :).

this means a large number of trials i play, that perk slot is wasted for the entire game.

i am aware i can change that perk out if i want to, but i like the perk so i keep it on.

should i be petitioning for the game to be changed so survivors have to feed me cooperative actions so the perk i chose to bring in with me isn't wasted so much?

maybe if i use ALL CAPS and a few of these!?!?!?!

    lmao

What? My point is it's too effective against less experienced players. I get that camping isn't a good strategy. I just don't want camping to drive away less experienced players. It's not fun, and nerfing it will probably discourage more people to doing so.

Also, how does it remove the skill needed to play survivor? It only removes the skill to counter camping some more, which isn't hard anyways, it's just that less experienced players don't know how to, and solo survivors can't tell each other that the killer is camping. But why would that be a problem, if countering camping took less skill? Standing in front of a hooked survivor and watching them bleed out takes absolutely 0 skill.

i believe my underlying point is people are too focused on "camping" being a bad thing to realize that it's not a bad thing at all.. it's a good thing.. not because the other survivors can rush objectives and leave, but because it gives newer players an easy target to practice a skill that people don't even like to acknowledge exists.

practicing and getting experience breaking a camp ultimately lends to a skill that actually makes you a much better player. instead of putting the idea into newer players heads that something needs to be "nerfed", you should be putting the idea into their heads that it's really easy to just gain the skill that counters it..

  • i always get useless teammates.. very rarely do i get good team games with randos..

i've adopted the new rando play style with a few tweaks & i have to say i love it..

i treat every match as simply a race to break totems.

i patrol gens looking for survivors to get cooperative points with, and whenever i find someone i try to maximize my cooperative points with whoever it was because there is no guarantee i'll get anymore once we split up.

while looking for people to help i keep an eye open for totems to destroy, of course.

if nobody is doing generators anywhere, why should i? leaves me time for the sweetness, like spinning in circles on a hill, moon walking, inventing dances using emote keys like crouch, point, come here, & spinning.. sometimes i even change the music and pretend like it's a night at the club..

eventually i'll get killed, but my teammates were worthless anyway so it's not like i didn't see that coming.. might as well have fun until then, right?

  • ---actualy as a follow up, just so this information is out there:

if i am the only survivor taking my hooks (giving my teammates the opportunities they need for benevolence and altruism), it is also pointless for me to stay in your game. me going on hooks is not because i'm "bad", it's because that's how my teammates get points and experience. i look forward to my teammates getting paid every time i get downed. a lot of the times i'll go down on purpose for that reason.

if the teammates i have are just hiding and waiting for the perfect moment to come capitalize on my "misfortune" while not returning the favor, again there is no reason for me to stay in this game with inexperienced or just plain greedy survivors on my team. i'm literally better off moving on in search of new teammates..

  • @Kebek

"Good reason ? You think that there is a good reason to suicide in first minute of the match ? People who do that are ragequiteres who can't handle getting downed early or face viable killer."

-yes. while some people who do it are rage quitters and derankers and i don't think either of those is a good reason to give up the will to survive and let down your team, if i personally get chased for a minute, get downed & hooked, and see 3 teammates squatting for no reason in different areas of the map nowhere near the killer or my hook, i consider that a very good indication of how that match is going to go. those 3 players have just told me that they intend to hide for whatever reason and they are playing a last-man-standing type of game. i'm not trying to play that game. why would i make special effort to stay in it?

"But maybe me doing gens without any information what my teammates may be doing is actually encouraging the hooked person to suicide since it's obviously my fault that I didn't instantly rush to save them and prioritized the main objective".

-if i see people doing gens, you've bought yourself time until that generator is completed so i can see what people do next. *PLEASE NOTE* that if your doing that generator causes me to hit struggle phase on first hook, you have just chosen to kill me so good luck to you and the rest of the guys on the team.

"Obliged in a way that devs designed hook stage to last for 2 minutes and when you willingly suicide within first few minutes of the match on your first hook then it should be treated the same way DCing is since you're doing the same thing = ruining the match for everyone because of your childish behaviour."

-how do you not understand that your "childish behavior" in leaving me to die on a hook while you rush objectives without me is what causes me to desire a better game with better teammates? if you leave the gen and make the save, there are more people alive and we can get the gen done together.. more points for everyone. this is also true if the gen was at 99% and regresses back to 0% before we make it back to it.. more points for everyone along with a longer, more fun and fulfilling game.

waiting on a hook for your team to "martyr" you is neither fun nor fulfilling in any way but i do enjoy seeing you guys continuously try to justify it with rules and whatever, proposed or otherwise..

I don't know what to tell you anymore. If you just want to ignore our points on why we actally want to nerf camping, then do so. But it really can't be too hard to understand that that is not our point.

I doubt it would chase many killers away, they can still play the game, unlike the survivor being camped.

And how often are we supposed to tell you we want a nerf to camping that can't be abused?

i believe you also are ignoring very clear and valid points that demonstrate there is already a nerf to camping: it's called being a skilled survivor and breaking the camp.

nerfing camping even further would just remove the need for skill on the survivor's part allowing anyone to play the game without skill.. please look into getting skills..

...Are you for or against camping punishments? I thought you were poking at me because I'm against adding a punishment, but now you sound like you think players complaining about campers just need to get good instead of complaining.

    Which I agree with.

you sounded to me like you are suggesting the proper way to deal with camping is gen rushing and leaving.. i'm against that.. i want to make sure everyone who comes across a thread where people are suggesting that as the way to deal with camping understand that it is not.. it is an indicator of a player with no skill.

that being said, i don't see anything wrong with camping.. i like when killers camp because i like breaking camps.. it's super fun.. i don't like 3 randos then taking the opportunity to rush generators and leave and then laugh in endgame chat making fun of a killer when anyone who understands the game knows that the only people that should be made fun of in that scenario are the little dust-bags that watched their teammates die and ran out of the exit to claim their sweet little depips.

it makes campers lose out on 3 Kills. What more do you want?

Oh right; 90% of all 'Punish Campers' ideas want hard punishments like BP loss, respawning, or god-mode. You literally want a 4-man escape as the only punishment. Anything less is 'lol, that's no counter!'

it makes survivors lose out on 2+ scoring categories.. probably 3+ for the survivor on the hook you're using to "punish" the camper..

to be clear, you aren't "punishing" the camper by doing what you're doing.. you're "punishing everyone" with a super crappy game and then you retreat to the forums to complain about the "camper" who needs punishing, when you could just learn to play the game better and go break the camp, save the teammate, and have a much better overall experience.

How silly of us, to assume that doing your objective while we can't stop you because we are camping is a viable way to punish camping. 🙄

I don't know what we were thinking! It's clear to me now that the only way to punish campers is to hold the Survivor's hands and let them instantly win any match in which a Killer is near a hook for over 0.000003 seconds. I mean, how silly of me! Assuming doing your objective was a viable counter! That takes effort! Ain't no camper-complaining Survivors got time for that!

They need to win in 2 minutes so they can come back on here and look for something else to nerf about Killers so they can win in under one minute next time!

lol where do people come up with this kinda stuff? "i'm going to punish the killer by refusing to actually play the game and i'll just watch my teammates die slowly while i perform an 'objective' super fast so i can GTFO and hopefully never even know who the killer is if i'm lucky"..

im ded :) keep on "punishing" those campers

    ...Wow...

I'm sure your teammates thank you for always cleansing. Give a good plague the red vomit and watch your team get snowballed on hard. A plague with red vomit has the potential to down survivors as fast as nurse and huntress.

You're not dodging that vomit if the plague is half-way decent. And when the red timer runs out? Plague can just green vomit on the hooked person or while they are on the ground, so either way you are going to be infected.

Don't cleanse against plague unless the game is already over, or you're in a location (near the end of the game) that would be super inconvenient for the plague to get to, or you want to screw over your team. Cleansing all the time is about the same as dropping every pallet immediately. You might be saving yourself in the short term, but you have doomed your team against a good plague.

Of course, none of the above matters if the plague isn't very good.

lmao.. i'm not really concerned with what teammates that don't cleanse want to thank me for.. i'm trying to have a good time and a good game, and i can do neither with a bunch of broken people trying to gen rush & run out of the door.. you could say that if i could i would thank them for never cleansing and making me skip a good chunk of the game..

again, if my teammates are of the variety that are powerless against a plague or any other killer i'm in the game with, how is that my fault, problem, or issue? i didn't put them in my game. i didn't award them the rank needed to be put into my game.. i honestly never would have if it was up to me because they aren't skilled enough to deserve it.

while you are correct that i will ultimately go down at some point in a lot of cases, i need to then depend on my team to keep me in the game. if my team is not skilled enough to keep me in the game then i'm the loser in the scenario anyway because again my team is not skilled enough to keep me in the game..

sorry but there's not many other ways of looking at it..

1 2 3 4 5
