It's funny since voice communication is a problem in exclusively THIS game (if we take that all other asymmetrical 1:4 games are either dead or never caught a stable playerbase)
In any other online pvp game either team sizes are equal and both can gain the same advantage from VC and/or the games have it already build-in (rocket league, lol, r6s, overwatch....).
Only by making a build-in VC with the option to opt out/mute it like in the other games, can behaviour start to balance for it. Until then the balance will always remain a trifecta of solo, killer, swf.

simply kill the person going for the save it really isnt that hard. Saying theres nothing you can do is such caveman logic like oh survivor go in locker me have to grab survivor. No just kill the person waiting behind the wall
Ah yes, just skip the 6 hits, 6chases and 3 hook states and straight up kill them. Ez
Also iirc the locker tech that's complained about here involves 2 survivor, each with flashlight and both in adjacent lockers. As soon as you grab one, the other comes out for the blind and drop during animation lock.

That's the DBD community for you.

They wont until it is nerfed. And then they go for Sprint Burst, because they realize that it is far more annoying than DH, especially if more players are running it due to the lack of options.
But yeah, I would also wish that every snowflake would stop thinking that THEIR Thread about DH is special and needs to be posted...

But that's probably because those are "valid" complaines and not just the other side of the coin whining just as much 😜 /s

@SilentShepherd said:
I have said this over and over. The devs don't seem to understand that they need to value FUN FACTOR when designing -anything- in DBD.
It needs to be fun for both sides.
The Nurse is a toxic anti-fun killer. She breaks one of the core basic tenets of the game - which in my opinion is THE most fun thing about this game - the chase. Nurse just goes through walls, pallets, it's just dumb.
The Doctor is another toxic anti-fun killer. He breaks another core tenet of the game - the patrol portion. No point in hiding, Doctor just AOE and boom finds you.
Well, "fun" hasn't been a point for balancing in respect to killer for a long time.
Debugging nurse was the first step in that direction in a looong time.

There is a huge cost to Dead Hard being activatable: less distance. There is a lot of risk to dead hard, as killers can bait it out (most of the time) or a 1-shot killer like Myers totally makes it void. Sprint Burst wins in both scenarios.
Why are we saying free distance instead of earned distance? You earned the perk, it should help you.
I don't see how Dead Hard is comparable to NOED. NOED makes you stronger for losing the entire game. Survivors don't have strong perks like killer perks.
Look how Parental Guidance compares to the new activatable Ruin perk with tinkerer built-in.
NOED makes you stronger for losing the entire game.
Ah I love this incredible fallacy. You could be on 8 hooks, 90% pallets broken and still have NOED. "Lost all game" with 3 perks.
The activation conditions for NOED isn't "losing all game" but just the game progressing until all gens are done.
Did the killer earn NOED with anything? No, not in its current form hence why i for example proposed getting stack when hooking survivor and for each stack you get an instadown hit on your M1 or something like that.
And at the topic, you still don't get the difference between a SB at the beginning of the chase when the killer has the choice to abandon it instantly and hope to find the same survivor when still exhausted versus wasting over a minute in a chase only to be denied a hit and looped for another 30 seconds by an ON DEMAND perk.

Yesterday I had my third match with Sodoku and managed to get 3 hooks through the whole match.
Lots of clicky clicky and teabags.
It's so nice to play a freshly released killer and get the corresponding mmr rating...
It's so nice seeing survivor being grateful and respectful when they don't have to play against the usual huntress, blight and nurse they always complain about. /S
-
Same, until i stopped going for kills, let survivor intentionally go and just focused on bp and 4 bbq stacks. Given that i sometimes don't even reach that still the "don't give a ######### mindset" really helps (also me out of my depression even if it didn't solve the root problems.)
And yeah, MMR at prime time is a no argument anymore, again. When the system is setup that it ignores all rules for queue time brevity then it's useless.
-
@evancalgary said:
Like all of them ever since grade reset ether afk of let you win are they purposely dropping MMR or is this game really THAT dead that people just give up before the game starts
Please remind me what incentives there are to play killer and even more so to play for the win?
Being the big bad monster? - Yeah sorry strength wise you are just worth 1,5 survivor the rest has to be effort from your side.
Playing with friends? - Oh wait, wrong side. My bad. Only solo non stop stress here.
Getting to iri 1? - Wow what a status symbol in the anonymous wilds of the internet and uh boy worth 1 million BP, what a treat to sweat my ass off for against ungrateful, toxic groups now and then.
Having high MMR? - This one boggles me the most. Why in the everlasting hell should I bother to thrive for harder enemies when i want to relax with my favorite game (not mine personally) after work? I don't mean to stomp new players but hell if i would even try to get a high MMR value, especially in a matchmaking system that throws Al out the window when queue times for the party side get too long.
And finally the only incentives for me: on average more BP and being independent of others performance. That's it.
And that's not enough for me to "try my best" when the only payoff is harder games against probably more tryhard, toxic survivor that are bored with the gameplay and try to have fun by exerting their imaginative dominance.
-
And this is again why i main oni. Most people don't hate or even like him, especially since i don't slug.
-
Yep, just reinstalled yesterday and played for the first time since December a few rounds.
0k in all except 2 pig rounds were i tried the 4 rbt trap challenge and decided to go for adept too. First was with the iri addon that put all traps on survivor at the beginning but didn't count towards the challenge 😜.
-
Well for me personally, it is incredibly boring as killer to just stand around, doing nothing.
-
Those are relics from the release of the game where teamwork on gens was the motive for survivor as the game in the beginning still had the theme of a slasher horror movie being played.
Survivor would team up and so on but nowadays spreading out has become well known as the most efficient method since the killer is limit in their map pressure.

Dude are you aware? DbD is not horror game anymore. Maps are not dark anymore. We have Ash in game. We have K-pop Star as killer. DbD is party game, not horror. I am sure Uncharted would fit.
I still hate the narrative of DBD being a "party" game.
It's always only a party for one side while the other can stress all alone to get something.
This isn't Mario party, Mario Cart or smash brothers where it is even team or free for all.
In my eyes DBD is and always was a semi competitive (not in the eSports sense) pvp game with to asymmetrical distinct sides. Nothing "party" about that. Especially given how both sides and from my killer only experience especially the "party" side behaves often.
-
Just put it in so all the FNAF fans can finally shut up at every new chapter/anniversary.
-
Againi would just hope it would be because these non stop FNAF threads at every new chapter get bloody annoying.
-
Go for 8 hooks but let survivors escape in the end. I've been playing like that for the last 2 years. I never saw a reason to reach rank 1. I stayed in green ranks and now just adapted this playstyle to go for challenges, BP and my 4 bbq stacks.
-
Not directly an anti healing perk but nurses calling is nice to see where they heal and just stop them yourself.
Also before anybody else makes this comment:
Play Plague, you can't heal what'd broken (to a degree, since she also comes with free heals at every fountain.)
-
I don't. Not worth the stress. Try to find the hatch maybe for points but i would rather look for pallets or walls to break and only engage if they cross my path on the way.
-
3. Every of those "relaxed games meant a stomp or being outclassed for the respective opposite side. It was only this way because everyone and their mother managed to reach red ranks just like today iri grade even without the scrapped depipping between grades.
SBMMR would be the right way but only when the devs would also start to balance accordingly. The game balance wasn't perfect before SBMMR and still isn't now.
Some of us even wanted SBMMR to have some sort of fix point to balance around since it would need some in this game full of rng.
-
Sorry i didn't read any of the essays here.
My personal take?
Try to play for hooks and forget kills as main goal.
I personally try to hook all 4 survivor and then try to go for a second full round of hooks. Then i decide depending on the progress of the trial.
Still multiple gens needed to be done?
- Start hitting downing and hooking on after the other slowly.
All gens done independent of the amount of hooks?
- Take the gate opening points for myself and then either softly try to get more hooks or search for remaining breakable walls and/or dropped pallets for points.
Killer?
- Whatever i feel like/have a daily/tome challenge.
Perks?
- Bbq for points, the rest depending on what i have (no ruin/noed). My personal build on my main oni, bbq, brutal strength (i normally brake all pallets directly), iron maiden and bamboozle. Useless but convenient with faster animations.
I intentionally avoid all camping/tunneling (going to the other side of the map, keeping my distance from a hooked surbivor and ignoring freshly unhooked survivor running into my face) and slug only survivor that are on death hook and run stupidly right into my face and then try to keep it at only one at a time.
This overall playstyle is aimed at a relaxed gameplay to not stress oneself and focusing on BP.

So your argument in a nutshell is:
- SWF abuse the game as well.
- It is therefore okay for killers to camp.
- Don't matter about the 95+% of the playerbase who play solo, cuz you guys are all survivors.
- And if you don't want us to camp, make the SWF stop abusing the game.
That's about the gist, correct?
Wow, I don't even know where to start with this one...
you ignore the point and say well that's just a small portion of the playerbase
Excuse me, but I have not IGNORED anything. In fact, I specifically bolded the very phrase: "Those SWF abusers should be stopped as well." after the very statement regarding the percentage of SWFs in DBD.
Stop assuming things and start reading carefully.
Camping doesn't do that as survivors can do gens and the person on hook will die
This is just unfathomable. This excuse is only regarding those remaining 75% of the team. You can't seriously justify that the hooked survivor has to endure this without good reason?
It's obvious that you don't play both sides because if you was you wouldn't be making so many excuses for survivors and doing whatever you can to go after killers
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Being a Trickster/Cenobite main, I can't believe you just said that, but I'll let it slide.
I'm only criticizing killers cuz the topic is about them.
I also criticize survivors all the time for T-bagging, BMing in general and bullying killers. It's just the title of this topic was "If Camping is not Intended, why are Hook Grabs still a thing?" and the last time I checked, survivors don't hook grab and camp so there's no need to bring survivors into the discussion now is there?
Ehm while i already read the whole discussion let me take up one point here.
The devs have said 5% are full 4 men swf, that does not mean 95% play solo.
From my very subjective experience playing between 8pm-1am, eu, on PC, with crossplay on, full solo lobbies are only a little bit more common than full SWF. The majority is a mix of solo/duo/3men swf. You get nearly no lobby without some player playing together.
So i would claim that maybe 50% or even less of all survivor are really solo during prime time.
-
Fun fact, nearly all other games have no "two sides" but a general pool of characters everyone plays from. Even a game with two sides like wow (horde vs alliance) shares all classes.
The asymmetrical pvp genre aside from DBD is pretty much dead and never managed to catch foot.
It lies in the nature of this game that there are player enjoying one side more Ethan the other for various reasons and identify in arguments more with their favorite.

If you read my other comments this has been said 1000 times now 7 days is more accurate then the % graph you can openly select the all option if you choose to do so you'd notice the game has always been above 40k+.
The fact that the game lost all the gained revenue from re chapter over the last 6 MONTHS remains and it remains to be seen if the trend keeps going or goes back up like for other chapter releases before.
The seven day metric would only be useful for huge player losses in a few days but such developments don't happen from one day to another.

If you'd actually take more than 1 second to read what I typed, you'd realize it is normal for rises and falls to occur in player counts for literally any online game ever.
Well 6 months of constant loss of all the playerbase increase from the re chapter isn't really a back and forth cycle but a downward slope. Stil remains to be seen if the trend keeps going or like you say goes back up like in the past.
Looking at the graph for the time since release, the new chapter atleast managed to stop the trend.

12m around a hooked survivor only; basement hooks and after fifth gen pop excluded. Exemptions could be made for non-lethal abilities (i.e. blinking, phasing, and performing a rush), a good counterpoint to my idea someone made earlier in the thread.
Thank you for the clarification.

Because the game has lost 50% of its players in half a year partially because of the bad balance, and making it so survivors basically cannot lose is a good way to lose the remaining 50%, even if some people genuinely believe this game is immortal/losing half your players since MMR is a normal thing. When you're bleeding players, probably best not do massive one sided changes like that.
50% on ONE platform. We have no idea about the states of the others.
But given the timing of the free2play weekend i guess it could be an indicator.

Ehm yeah?
Two apps existed (the second after the first didn't work anymore after a fix) back in the second and third year of the game when player information for a trial was handled Clientside and was not encoded but saved as a simple Textfile.

46k CURRENT PLAYERS AS OF THIS MOMENT PER STEAMCHARTS
THIS TIME LAST YEAR, DBD WAS AT 35k
Yes, there was a drop off after the ALL TIME HIGH after the Resident Evil Chapter. EVERYONE knew that would happen. New players would flock to check the game out. Some stayed while some long time players left. This is not uncommon in games such as this. Every game as a service model has peaks and valleys. Look at PUBG for a prime example. By no means is DBD "losing players at an alarming rate". As I stated IN A SIMILAR THREAD YESTERDAY, if there was a 15% drop in player base compared to this time last year, sure I would raise an eyebrow but, numbers don't lie. Now I fully expect to see the same thing happen numberwise come join this year. I'll even put money on it.

If it were up to me, killer powers disabled within 12m of all hooks except basement hooks and during end game. (Cue killer main freak out)
Well i am a little late to the party but maybe i misunderstand something or you should change the phrasing.
Do you mean 12 meter around a hooked survivor or 12 meter around ALL hooks at any time?
Because the latter would be insane. More than 50% of most maps would be blocked for killer powers and indoor maps would completely be M1 killer with 115/110% movement speed without powers.

Survivor queues are instant during the early portion of the day. Before 7PM.
Good for you. And I guess you didn't read my other responses during this thread.
When you have 10-20 minute queues you have enough time to do leveling. And can still switch characters unlike killer thanks to character lock.(Which is BS btw now because individual killer MMR was nothing more than another empty pr promise)
When they are instant then you should have enough time to do it before queueing, like me when i play killer during prime time.
And lastly, if you want to do that during lobby time, go for it but don't expect the killer not to act upon it.
If you don't know the intent of the other party, expecting the worst is sadly the norm and killer will see it as a tryhard maneuver and respond accordingly even if it wasn't.
-
Well, i guess we all expected more from behaviour than to switch one system for another only to keep the underlying sickness.
The problem remained that at peak hours between 7-8pm and 1am the ratio of killer to survivor isn't 1:4 but more akin to 1 : 8-10.
And then to keep the 8-10 happy, the system throws all rules out the window and mixes everything for shorter queue times.
Only that noone is happy with the state of the game like this.
Edit: I really hate autocorrect sometimes.
-
Not ruin but the whole regression mechanic.

That is, like I said, a problem, you can't see these numbers. In every competitive game (or games with matchmaking) most have some kind of MMR.
It originates from chess, where your elo determines how good of a chess player you are, and it's a VERY good thing to know your elo if you play against someone.
Most games that have some kind of skill-level in characters or other influences use (often beside a ranked system) MMR to determine your skill, your "elo"
Elo =/= Rank
in DBD it was that the emblems were used, but the problem was high-elo, where everyone in red-rank was maxed out, instead of adding more ranks (or doing a separate rank system) now a hidden number, that only does it job sometimes (because queue times get favoured) determines what enemies you get.
In a game like DBD, it just doesn't work how they want it to make, especially as Kills and escapes count ONLY.
Well, everyone hates it. If you ever want to know more and how Systems like that work, League of legends system is actually pretty interesting and a lot of documentation is available, same with CS:GO. IDK about any other games unfortunate where the implementation was made more public. Oh, maybe games where the ELO is made public overall. Some card games do that
I think r6s and overwatch also show you an MMR value iirc.

I can't come to dead hards defense since i hate the perk. Hate it as survivor because it teaches bad gameplay. And hate it as killer because it inflates chasetime in a bs manner. DS personally i feel is one of those necessary evils especially with the current "tunnel 1 out=easier pressure later" meta. Ds now only exists to actually give tunnel killers something to worry about. Which even then most of them just eat the ds and chase them more anyway. So that's the only reason i defend ds even with it rewarding failure (which it does i won't deny that). Can you imagine the tunnel wave if ds was removed vs the amount of kills that would be lost by noeds removal? Id feel thered be a dramatic difference.
Yeah i hated dh too with a burning passion. I avoided camping and tunneling at all cost so neither ds nor bt (even ignoring the ones dive-bombing the killer with it) were of concern for me after the nerfs.
But dh is the biggest BS in this game. Earned by nothing and accessible on demand without having to anything.
I take any SB over that #########. At least there i can abort any chase without wasting time and they have to pay attention to their exhaustion if they want to make more skillful plays with it.
