Had tons of fun using off meta jank to counter the meta. I remember when AD mid and Top were prevalent, I played a ton of AD mana tank Kassadin just to mess with people. Or AD Tankmo with Frozen Mallet rush.

    I miss LoL sometimes

It's again complete chaos at the moment with ADC, toplaner and other roles playing also top or mid. Or midlander on bot.

I took a 4 or 5 month break myself and am going to start playing solo queue tomorrow.

  • Not until high diamond/master.

Until then most people aren't skilled enough to use the meta to their full potential. The better skill most often is the more important factor.

Of course there will be meta picks that perform better at the moment but even non meta picks can win the lane given the skill matchup.

Aye I’m aware of that, but it should have been changed a long time ago imho.

Well we are talking about bhvr here. They needed several years to change a few line of code to set Mori prerequisites from 1 hook to 2.

So i guess the time and manpower needed for this change compared to it's influence in the game isn't worth their consideration like many other qol changes proposed.

And while most of this is meant sarcastic and is more about their speed in decision making, it still is true that they are one of the slowest developers i now and dividing attention to this would slow some other stuff even further Down.

  • @Pepsidot said:

I can't really say I really miss anything broken. Because I rarely used e.g., the broken insta heals, insta flash or insta gen addons.

But when those things were nerfed I did regret not using them at the time, just... to have used them whilst they were still a thing.

Just like me with every new lol champ that isn't really balanced and regretting not abusing their strength to climb ranks.

    But honestly, not really.

It’s odd the cap is only mill when it takes more than that to level just one character to 50, let alone unlock and level up the perks you want.

Have you been there for DBD release?

Back then most if not all stuff was handled Clientside and people tempered with the data to give themselves unlimited BP.

Therefore they implemented the limit but that's neither necessary or adequate for the game state today.

  • Just like @bm33 said, why would be tweets from the separate mobile game hint at anything for the main game? Both are made by different studios.

This just might mean, if we take those coincidences as hints, that the mobile game gets FNAF instead of ringu for it's next chapter and has nothing to do with normal DBD.

But why should anyone get banned for having a different opinion than the majority on these Forums?

I never said they should but evidently many extreme biased forum members got banned in the last 6 months because most of their posts created a too heated atmosphere on the forums.

I can remember the name of the small scale survivor biased ones (they got banned with less than 500 posts) but for example the counterpart to sluzzy, lord Toni.

And my point is just like many people here post pro killer stuff for ages now, so i see you, Jonny and others more often than not shoot against those posts instead of ignoring them straight up.

That was my original response to johnny when he said killer mains never stop, so don't you.

  • Well i see you lot still giving contra on most of those threads from the "cesspool of crying killer mains" instead of simply not commenting or just straight up ignoring /skipping them.

So just like them i don't see you ever stop with this.

Imagine hating a jump scare myers lol, what has this world truly come to

Well i saw scratched mirror Myers several times in the last few "which killer don't you like to verse" threads.

Surprised me as well since Mikey is only viable on a few maps this way and easy prey on most others thanks to the slow movement.

  • Because all killer SHOULD be viable on ALL skillevels.

Just like all characters in league or r6s are nearly always viable.

Of course every game has a meta but you CAN win with anyone in those games.

Not so in DBD since half the rosters powers are lackluster now that survivor over time learned the most efficient strats and those got distributed far and wide thanks to the streaming era.

Same with killer camping/tunneling so much. Both sides have reached the momentary apex in efficiency and the fun is left behind.

  • People already dislike jumpscare Myers.

I don't think the devs will introduce a second one.

Even if that is the MOST fun playstyle of all, to see them suddenly jump off their gen and starting to run XD

Not if you prefer to play with mainly the chainsaw and it's just the same sample again and again and again. Atleast give him a variety of screams so it feels slightly fresh every time.

Also in my mind they just added it mainly as a "dodge now please" audio cue for survivor.

And now again please with times of day played because I doubt you get instant for NEITHER survivor NOR killer around the clock.

Well the killer is supposed to... Kill. But survivor always want to dictate the methods.

So if survivor want killer to play inefficient by splitting hook evenly then survivor should all sit on one gen at a time WITHOUT prove thyself or leader or toolboxes.

Great points you've both been raising. Just wanted to add here as well - I think even the 20% numbers may be oversimplified just for steam alone. From the article, it looks like all of these numbers are only coming from the NA East servers - not the entirety of DBD's servers. I'm assuming steam is showing global server numbers (not sure about that) but either way, the queue numbers shown here would only be a fraction of the overall steam playerbase. Not sure how many other servers there are but assuming the numbers are fairly consistent across the other servers, the killer population is probably well under 20%. All that said, without having some numbers about how many people are also in game right alongside the queue numbers, it's hard to extract any useful conclusion about killer population

Now if we were just looking at the average queue times, the article raised a good point. If we're looking at peak hours, assuming killer queues take 5 seconds and survivor queues take 250, then the killer to survivor population ratio is 1:50 (below 2% killer population). That seems way too low and is also an overly simplified calculation (doesn't take MMR into account at all, SWF etc. etc.), but it's still thought provoking

I agree with the point you ended on - we can't definitively say how much lower the killer population is compared to the survivor population with this information alone. It seems realistic to me that the actual killer population is hovering somewhere between 5-15% of players on average during peak hours. That sounds a bit worse than it actually is, since if queue times were perfectly balanced, the killer population would still only be 20% (which would roughly translate to perfectly equal queue times for both roles). It's unclear if the "estimated wait times" numbers in the article are survivor only, or if they're an average of killer AND survivor. So again, all these numbers need to be taken with a pile of salt but they do seem to indicate that there is a dearth of killer players right now.

Also seems reasonable to assume that if there are more survivors in queue than killers at any given point in time (for instance, during night and peak hours), then the killer population is below 20% of the total playing at that time. If there are more killers than survivors in queue (during morning/day hours), then the killer population is above 20% at that time. I think we can pretty safely make those conclusions, at the very least

    Exactly

  • Yeah it hasn't been fun anymore for quiet some time as killer when you play strictly without camping, tunneling or slugging. Never stopped survivor from rubbing in their victory, earned or given.

  • @dugman said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2871753#Comment_2871753

Ah yeah, my math is a bit off as well, it should be closer to 20% not 25%. Let's try again:

    • From the article, at 4 PM there are 750 survivors in queue and 50 killers in queue.
    • According to Steamcharts there are about 46,000 people playing at a given moment at 4PM. That includes the 750 survivors and 50 killers in lobby above. That's 800 people in lobby and 45,200 not. Let's call is 45,000 people in matches for simplicity
    • If you have 45000 people in matches that's 9000 killers and 36,000 survivors. Adding in the 750 survivors in queue and 50 killers in queue that's 36750 survivors and 9050 killers. The total killer to survivor ratio is therefore 19.8%. (That makes more sense.)

There we go, that's better. 🙂 It's still not anything like "10% of players are killers".

    Yep that's the correct way.

But isn't a correct representation sadly. Steam player only make up a fraction of all players at a given time in DBD.

All consoles together seem to heavily outnumber steam alone. Also from what I remember before crossplay was a.rhunf is that on console killer already was the minority role. We had many queue time threads coming from console which wasn/isn't surprising in a game were one side gets controller friendly thirds person and the other first person without any helpful form of aiming correction (the aimdressing behaviour has implemented over all us more detriment than aid).

Therefore we don't really now the numbers at all times and the 750 survivors in queue might get way more increase than the 60 killer and the overall ratio between the 800 queue and 45000 trial player might also shift in one way or another.

Like i originally said, when the queue ratio of killer and survivor is 1:10 (10%) and the ratio in trial is always 1:4 (20%), then the true value lies somewhere in between depending and the real ratio of player in queue and in trial, in your example 800 to 45000, so roughly 1:56 leading to the 0,2% difference from 20% to 19,8%.

And again it is incredibly hard to really determine anything quantifiable since the number of player always fluctuates because trial end and start nonstop and even moreso survivor that did first/second might directly leave the trial and inflate the number of survivor in queue even more.

Let's stop here, i think we are turning in circles.

Yes, you are correct that the 10% aren't correct but also are wrong that it's the nice 20%. It remains a fact that survivor are stuck in queues between 5 and 15/20 minutes during prime time (8pm-1am) and therefore the killer percentage is absolutely not the perfect 20% but we can't defenitly say how much lower. It still depends on the difference between the number of all player in trial and all players in queue to define the correct deviation from the perfect 20%, which was my original point.

  • @dugman said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2871606#Comment_2871606

No, the 45359 includes the 11,200. You shouldn’t be adding those together.

actual totals are about 11,200 killers and 45,350 survivors

Didnt sound like that in your first post.

And even then it is 45350 total players and a trial is made up by 4 survivors plus 1 killer aka 5 player and from that we get 45350:5= 9070, not 11200.

Either way your math doesn't add up.

Edit: And my point still stands that if only 10% of all players in queue are killer, then the true percentage of killer is still dependant of the ratio of player in queue to player in trial, since the latter is always 20% until a survivor is killer. But i addressed that complication already by mentioning the fluid state of trials and queues.

  • I don't have a playstation, can't afford it at the moment and can't play horizon forbidden west or ratchet and clank, those devs have to do something about it.

Is it unfair or does it sounds stupid?

This is what it sounds like when people with spotty internet don't want to step down from playing group based (pvp) games.

The world is unfair and some things aren't accessible for everyone.

  • @dugman said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2870784#Comment_2870784

Here’s an example. From the article, at 4 PM there are 750 survivors in queue and 50 killers in queue. But according to Steamcharts there are about 46,000 people playing at a given moment at 4PM, so the actual totals are about 11,200 killers and 45,350 survivors, making the ratio 24.7% of players are killer at 4PM. In other words there are way, way more people in matches than in the lobby so the ratio is much closer to 25%.

Ehm that's not how the necessary math for player percentage works?

Taking your totals of 11200 killer and 45350 survivor player gives results as follows:

    Player total: 11200+45350=56550

    Killer percentage: 11200:55650=0,198

    so 19,8%

    And Survivor: 45350:56550=0,802

    80,2%

Which isn't surprising when comparing 56550 player in trial with 800 in queue, which won't make much of a difference (here the 0,2% +/-) with a factor of over 70 times.

(Btw i guess you calculated the killer to survivor RATIO not the respective percentages since 11200:45350=0,247, which is also not surprising given the natural 1:4 in any given trial)

Edit: Ah, you WERE talking about ratio but my other post was pointing at population percentages.

  • Well killer already lose all add-ons/offerings no matter the outcome and a survivor that DCs early costs a bbq player like me more than 10k points on average and that is low stacked. 5-7,5k from the stack alone and then there is one target less to make BP from without killing the other 3.

  • @BlackRabies said:

One change i remember someone mention i thought would be good. Press E to do the DH animation without the distance but keep the i frames. If you dodge a should've been successful attack break into a sprint for 2 or 3 seconds.

Whatever change the devs plan on mind just hope it's soon since it's the #1 used perk by far and that's a red flag something is wrong and in need of changes.

This is up to this point in theory still the best idea i read. (I also saw the idea in another thread a few weeks back.)

The problem is in practice still behaviours spaghetti code and the old engine this game is running on.

It took them years to fix the base dh interaction and this is even more complicated and I guess wouldn't work with the given framework and therefore will never see the light of day.

  • @dugman said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2870241#Comment_2870241

This article is kind of misleading

    • The times they looked at in the whole first half of the article are, frankly, bizarre. The main highlighted chart is from 3 AM to 7 AM, and the whole first half of the article is talking specifically about numbers at 3 AM. Why in the world would you focus on such an off-peak hour?
    • Only once you get down toward the bottom does it talk about how killers outnumber survivors from about 9 AM to early afternoon. Because, not surprisingly, during the day the people who play tend to be playing solo and not with friends who are probably at work or school. Then when 4-5 PM rolls around everybody who wants to play with their friends logs in and suddenly the survivor numbers skyrocket.
    • Finally you can't look at the ratio of people in queue and conclude that it's the ratio of people in the game because the queue numbers aren't counting anybody that's already in a match. Every single match has a 4-1 ratio of survivors to killers, so however many matches are going on at a given moment you have to add that many people in to the numbers shown for players in lobbies. If 400 players total are in lobbies and 4000 players total are playing the game at that moment then the "ratio of survivors to killers in the lobby" is only 10% of the people actually playing the game at that second, meaning the actual ratio of players would be very close to 4-1 in that scenario. And if everybody on one side gets into matches instantly, for example, then obviously that side's number in the lobby will be close to zero, even though there could be thousands of people playing that side at that moment.

So TLDR, it's certainly possible that overall on average fewer people play killer than survivor, but it's impossible to extract that from this article. And it's also obvious that the ratio of survivors to killers varies dramatically depending on the time of day you take the snapshot.

Well then it is dependent on the lobby to active trial ratio. We know that the survivor/killer-ratio in-game must be 4:1 and out of game during prime time (?) It's closer to 9:1.

So the percentage of killers from the whole player population ranges between 10-20%.

But it should complicated to get the true queue to trial ratio as the state is in constant motion of ending and starting games.

And another point would be dcing/dead survivor that leave an active trial and go back into queue.

  • @mynameisBlade said:

This is not surprising in the least. Only a matter of time. WHEN (not IF) 99% of the Killer players leave I really want to see these developers change something meaningful on the Killer side. Something big. Something that will make everyone try Killer. What that is...I expect them to figure out.

Won't happen. Duo player will unavoidably switch back to killer due to queue times and ease the problem for a time by reducing survivor and increasing killer numbers at the same time. And only once their numbers also run dry it will be only survivor-only players and even they would maybe switch to killer given the circumstances.

It won't be an abrupt but a gradual process of the whole playerbase bleeding out over time. And from both sides, one side stronger than the other but still both.

  • While i would be for a bbq/wglf token for all remaining players aka 25% BP once someone DCs, bhvr won't do it since it could be "abused" by intentional DCs in swf groups or something. At least i heard some argument like that some time ago.

Because then the filler survivor might be loaded into an inadvantageous situation and also DC and then comes another filler and another and so on.

Ah yes overwatch comp where it normally is a best of three and not only one round?

Same with r6s, rankeds are just 3 minutes the last time i played but are still a best of 5(7?). And in their normal queue you also can't even rejoin but get substituted by refill with solos from the queue.

I've made posts requesting to slow gen speeds down and give survivors options to counter face-camping and tunneling-off-hook-till-dead.

Survivors need some type of built in counter to face-camping and tunneling-off-hook-till-dead and I also agree that gen speeds need to be slowed down at the same time.

And here we have the biggest problem, "AT THE SAME TIME". Sadly behaviour has never managed that in the history of DBD, afaik.

Always one side gets the hammer and then "let's see how that works" and in then something other gets changed and the original "test" gets forgotten and left in game.

  • @GuyFawx said:

Camping first hook overall has seemed to increase killers no longer enjoy the chase. I just wish there was a perk that sped up repairs heals and gates while being camped. That way killers are actually punished for more then loss of bp. Killers in general I feel like have no concern about making the match fun for everyone anymore and I dont get why this has happened more recently. Maybe the playerbase has gotten younger and thats where this selfish behavior is rooted. I just had a ghostface camp me on my first hook because i made it my job to keep knocking him out of stealth and he was maybe annoyed because he could figure out who was doing it as gens kept flying.

Well to the point of fun. I as a killer only player have NEVER seen survivor doing anything to make the game more fun for the killer. So it is always bewildering for me to see this argument that killer have to hold back for the fun of the other side.

From my experience in playing casual for BP and not even aiming for kills, my soft playstyle has never led to the survivor going easy on my but me ending with less than 10/15k BP, (way) less than 6 hooks and them finishing as fast as possible more often than not.

  • Well a 3+ minute chase should normally mean 0 gens left and at that point what else remains besides securing the kill for most?

This is just a generic answer and your scenario might've been different.

And just like the other guys that said on this forum that during a storm their internet has hiccups, i tell you that playing under these circumstances is irresponsible and selfish given the all present possibility of ruining the game for the rest of people in the round. • The hitboxes favor killers? Yeah no, not from the perspective of the killer when you can stand a meter or more away from a pallet drop and still get stunned.

Sorry, my surv queue time is 0, and I wait about 5min as killer

Ah you have to love it. Another example of an completely empty and worthless argument of "Nu-uh, it's different for me." Without comparability or value.

Region? Time of day played? Platform? With or without crossplay?

Without the above info any argument about queue times is worthless and just a subjective experience.

And I will die on this hill demanding for the inclusion of said info in any queue time discussion. Just like i made a thread about it 2 years ago to include this info into the profile bio on this forum like in another forums where games/platforms or other info is directly displayed for each forum member directly under every of their comments.

Sorry didn’t realize this was not meant to be serious :)

Well it's just that i know veinslay to be more of a pro killer poster than that and it is unusual if not taken as sarcasm.

COH hasn't even been out for 6 months, camping has always been there

So what would incentivize one to go for chases?

Nvm i am dumb and can't count

the thing is that ur wrong it doenst make any sense... If the survivors are good they can do 4.5 (give or take) gens during the time you hook camped someone 2 hook stages are 120 sec a gen is 80 and 2 person (not prove thyself) is 47.5 seconds... and this is excluding the time the survivor loops for. So at BEST you should be able to get 2 kills and tahts... the problem isnt hook camping itself its that SURVIVORS DOESNT DO GENS!!!!

And you still asked for camping to get looked at when your real complaint is that your teammates aren't up to snuff.

Also the other that called you out on answering your own problem are right.

It is a never ending cycle, killer use more and more camping and tunneling thanks to meta survivor perks and survivor use meta perks more and more consistently because of camping and tunneling.

The only thing that really changed in the last 6 months is coh being implemented in the game and killing of one of the non camping/tunneling strategies from the killer side.

If the devs also make camping unviable WITHOUT compensating the other side i guess this game will really die in the short/long-term when killer get shackled at every end.

never will happen never heard of a multiplayer game that punishes for the usage of coms

Because in ALL other games either a) comms potentially benefit both sides the same or b) are already built in the game as an option.

DBD is probably the ONLY game where this discrepancy still remains.

You don't even need to look at profiles just look at when they enter the lobby and if they're already waiting in a lobby.

That doesn't work anymore. Even 4 solo survivor will plopp simultaneously into your lobby if there previous killer left or they waited for a longer time.

There are anti swf builds that help they arent full proof but if you have that build ready you can always swap to it if you see a full team join at the same time.

Again, not a "fool proof" indicator anymore.
