It becomes challenging and sometimes infuriating when you go against very good survivor(s) with a good map for them.
Old Ormond against very good survivors was literal rage for me. There was nothing you could do.
Once again that is subjective. Most maps arent inherently bad anymore. Haddon field is probably the worst currently even crocus prenn with the infinite is fine. The map is too rng focused on the outskirts. I digress though. Very good teams are fun to verse I actually have to try and win and test my skills.
The only thing that pisses me off is the ######### console frames.

Hit detection that has only gotten worse since they officially released dedicated servers, but we'll let the other 50 threads on that topic cover that one. Been playing both survivor and killer since year 1, and imo right now survivors are in the worst spot they have ever been in any version of the game. When I did play survivor, I used to play solo-survivor non-stop in the beginning because of how addicting the game was, but since I've moved to only playing SWF in the modern format. Unless you are new to game or still figuring things out, nobody should have a problem acknowledging that killers are in a strong place right now. Killers have built up an array of good perk options and many of them combo well together; especially if you're someone like me and have all of the killer's teachables unlocked. I'd go as far as to say there's more good killer perks to choose from than survivor perks at this point in terms of how often it'll see play across different matches, utility, and advantage it can give you against another player.
In addition to this we are seeing stronger unique passive abilities, which are acting as an inherent 5th perk on some Killers, while survivors offer much less in comparison outside of their 3 unique perks. Even the new perks can be underwhelming and offer much less utility than ones already in the game which we've seen with many of the new survivor perks. I don't feel nearly as much anxiety as I did years prior when it took everything but the kitchen sink to down a survivor but they'd just keep coming back with their over tuned perks. Now, in the "modern" DBD I rather feel that I'm playing a relaxing adventure game featuring 4 unlucky survivors. Yea you get the fun and challenging games every now and again, but even my worst matchup today pales in comparison to some of the sweaty matches I've had in year 1.
Hits have definetly got worst over the years. I didnt have to pray the killer had good connection to not get hit. I've restricted myself to swf mostly maybe solo for like a video but other than that I dont like solo it's not fun when your teammates are just not good.
Killers have gotten stronger over the years and I feel like most of the killers on the roster can deal with average to good swfs. When I say good I dont mean top percent. But even then you dont see those as often.
I feel like in today's dbd killer is 100 percent more fun than survivor and survivor is a boring mess that needs tweaks. You have to throw the game to have fun which I could go into but for now I'll leave you with this. If a streamer plays with a swf they wont focus on gens they will usually try and go find the killer and mess/loop them until they die.

I'm a Killer main now and to be honest, the experience is just so much better than solo survivor.
Only yourself to criticise.
More variety to play with and experiment.
If you're good with Killer, you'll generally always perform well against the average solo survivor team, whereas even if you're a good solo survivor, there's no guarantee you'll even do well.
It's the more challenging role, so the reward is more fun.
I like being able to rely on myself and not worry about my team dragging me down. Another thing I really like is showing off my skills to survivors.
I consider myself good so I typically 4k most games at red ranks. My rank 1 hasnt been reached yet only because I'm playing and learning blight at the same time. I'm like rank 3 or 2.
I dont really consider killer that challenging tbh but that's just me.

i do gens while listening to music, so its at least more relaxing to me. Id agree though just normally its boring af
I cant bring myself to do gens unless I'm trying to win. Most of my survivor games I just want to get my chases and dip. Maybe die but as long as the chases are fire it's all good.
-
@RocketPenguin said:
id agree with most of those but id say survivor is more relaxing than killer, because of gen "gameplay"
I wouldn't say relaxing because it's just boring. Relaxing would be me chilling and having fun. Thats why I actively ignore gens as a survivor.

I play a lot survivor and killer both rank one consistently. To be honest killer never been easier and going against randoms or mix randoms and swf is playing like against bots. Decent SWF even with non meta perks seems to resist sometimes usually at farm maps where is a lot of ultra safe pallets and strong gyms. Im quite rarely matching against super sweaty survivors with 4 ds 8 unbreakables and 12 keys like every crying killer main at the forum.
This exactly. As survivor I see why more sweaty killers. As killer is actually like to go agaknst an actually super sweaty swf and see how I play. It would be nice to experiment with and test myself.

I agree killer is more relaxing, you have much more control. The killer has all the power to dictate whether survivors can have fun, with their killer pick, playstyle etc. All survivors can really do is (really rare, like once every 2 weeks) bring extremely stacked perks or more commonly, a map offering, which you can just alt+f4 anyway. I only play 4 man too if I can help it because randoms are so dogshit it's incredibly frustrating.
IIRC you are on Xbox, I know on PC you can enable crossplay off if you want harder games, sadly I doubt this will be the case for yourself though.
Exactly except most people seem to think it's actually stressful. Maybe against the actual near unbeatable swfs but other than that is say no. I dont really even dodge lobbies I only dodge keys when I see them.
Yeah no offense to my console brethren but the ones who turn crossplay off are just plain bad. that stuff is boring as hell.

It is not nonsense, its literally how the game works. When the killer attacks an invisible hit detection cone appears in front of them, the cone has a specific size, if the killer is hitting through a window the cone spawns and goes through the whole that is the window, and has the same size it would otherwise have. It's working as intended. Please refrain from saying something someone says is nonsense until you have properly determined what it is they said.
In their screen the killer is engaging in normal gameplay. They don't just hit you from a mile away on their screen and then laugh evilly because they abuse bad latency. You're also not seeing their plays in real time, they're engaging in whatever pathing and mindgame level they can achieve and it's not necessarily inefficient or not good because you both have mild latency desync with each other.
Im not going to say BHVR is a tiny indie studio, but to be fair to them, they are teeny tiny compared to Epic Games and probably don't have the resources to have the same level of quality in something that requires constant resources such as servers. They could definitely do a much better job given their resources, I'll agree on that, and hopefully we will see improvements on that area as hit validation, as well as their own servers become better and more accurate. I can say for a fact that since the first instance they added hit validation and increased the refresh rate of their servers, my connection has generally improved, so I imagine it will continue to improve.
Well how the hell are you going to account for latency if you're not even looking behind you to know the distance you are from the killer on your end? If you have to account for, say, an extra tenth of a second, you still need to look behind you to check the distance and then try your best to add an extra tenth-of-a-second-ish to the distance you're seeing. You're not just blindly making a guess, you take into account previous chases. I literally do this. All of the time. Obviously it's not 100% accurate, but it's damn well playable. Again, this doesn't mean it's not an issue that should be addressed. It does mean, however, that is manageable enough that it doesn't trump a whole killer's power not working.
So you understand that if hits worked as you are saying you would never be able to loop. You would only make windows that you have major distance on. You wouldnt even be able to be patient with fast vaults. Every vault would become a guessing game because you need to pre vault it you get hit. That is nonsense.
I'm not trying to talk bad to you it anything but you definetly dont play survivor or if you do you may not be the most experienced. You can hit through windows at a certain range. When the fast vault is finished you are definetly safe and should not be damaged. Maybe even a little earlier but it's hard to tell when every killer I verse has bad connection or vpns.
Yes I already know in their screen it's different yadda yadda. But thay doesnt change the fact that it feels like I'm being cheated when I'm beig outplayed by the servers.
That's why I want BHVR to be bought out by like microsoft atleast they have the resources to fix the ######### servers. I dont see the servers improving to be completely honest. Atleast as killer I dont have to deal with it.
When I say there is no point in looking behind, I say it because if there is latency you were getting hit regardless. You cant account for latency of an unknown ping. If tis already bad these servers take it to a new level. I seriously sont think you have ever versed a vpn killer. You cant do anything but lose.

Let's not talk about the fact that killer sounds are bugged for almost a year now and doesn't seem like that is going to change any time soon. Killers have the same issues when it comes to improving the overall quality of the game. Probably even more than survivors because sounds are huge.
Well yeah, I guess you could say that your perspective comes off a little bit entitled and is far from being the truth.
I mean in my personal experience I have not had many sound bugs. Maybe the occasional iron will slug, but other than that I use all sorts of sounds to track breathing, moaning, footsteps. It seems to be working just fine as blight especially with this ######### pov I need to use sounds to track.

@NekoTorvic said:
The hitbox killers have through windows is actually quite big. It's their normal hit cone. I dunno if you've ever seen videos of a trapper hitting a trapped survivor through a window. It looks so far that it seems like the hit shouldn't connect, but that's just how it is, ultimately the killer is extending their hit cone through the window.
That, combined with some latency, say about a tenth of a second, which is a decently short amount of time, is enough to cause these kinds of issues (like the videos you've shown in this thread).
Latency is expected and can be accounted for. I usually do and so I can usually predict whether I'll be hit or not fairly well, sometimes some BS hits happen, but hey that's life and that's what hit validation will try to correct. As far as I understand it, hit validation will not be in place to destroy hits with a little latency. It'll be in place to prevent egregious hits from a massive distance with latency that is just unacceptable.
However, a whole killer losing its power because of server hit validation being implemented is pretty big... when these issues arise, it is generally preferable to preserve the status quo. I don't remember how high the pick rate for Oni is, but imagine how survivor queue would be if all Oni mains stopped playing and played survivor for the duration of this issue.
That being said, I do hope hit validation comes sooner rather than later with the hotfix.
It's no killer hitbox extended through windows nonsense. If you have ever played against a killer with good internet which pm my servers is no one, these hits will be close and the killer actually has to be good st mimdgaming and pathing to get their this instead of getting an unfair one.
On the topic latency imagine a game like fortnite (100 player battle royale) with these poor dbd servers and bad latency. No one would play. There hit validation should stop little latency because even with the little stuff it determines a chase. Any experienced survivor can tell you that.
If the devs cant figure this out there is no real reason to even look behind you as survivor because you have now take in consideration the latency.

But it might just be less stressful for me than for other people who play killer because I don't care about rank and I don't really take it personally if I lose.
For me despite playing at "high ranks" I still don't have a problem and the sweat squads are mostly non existent. I dont really understand why people say killer is stressful when the only real issue is the ######### console frame rate.

@MrDardon said:
Well, if it's gamebreaking, why should they wait if they can just disable it? Seems very biased in my opinion. There was a game breaking bug with DS when Doctor got reworked. DS didn't work and they pretty much immediately gave it a fix. So it's not true that they fix Killer stuff instantly and wait for Survivor stuff.
Also, some bugs need longer to address. I still think the silent slug bug is still in the game. It's definitely not easy to find those bugs first, to know what makes it happen and then fix it.
I mean considering it's the same issue with huntress they could of used similar code to patch the bug with oni. Although this is only speculation these are supposed to be experienced devs after all right?
Oh the DS doctor bug well I mean if it wasnt fixed people would play doctor and tunnel you out of the game. Also ds bugged again against like maybe like 8+ killers. It was there for a good week. 1 second stun you remember:) I'm not trying to say they only do to for survivor but this particular thing set me off because it's like damn are you ok with vpn killers.
Thats the but this bug in particular was the exact same thing as a past one except a different killer.

"If you fully land a fastvault you are safe in a normal situation where hits are fair"
Obviously not considering that you had 69 ping in the videos you showed. You can't claim that wasn't normal or fair when you got hit twice through shack window in a game with a solid connection. Also, both times you were hit mid-animation, you can't tell me to fast vault a window, stand there, and then have the killer lunge because that's not what happened. You're closer to the window when you're mid-animation, if you finish the animation, and then have the killer swing afterwards I doubt the hit will connect.
Also, max sense on console as Blight? My game is gonna look like an oil painting lol. Thanks for the advice.
A survivor having solid connection does not mean the killer does. Killers have hit priority and the server does not check hits without hit validation. The killer hit me on his screen so it tells the server it hits no matter what. I was never mid animation ik had vault speed build. I was damn near gone when he hit me both times. Slow down your video and try just 1 more time :)
Max sense blight is definetly the way to go. When your game gets low frames tho it's bbad. I'm still getting used to blight but I've gotten pretty confident in my hits.
-
@Kebek said:
I've always felt like the issue with unfair hits towards survivors seems bigger then it is. Whenever I play survivors, most of the time, the hits that connect feel pretty fair. Yes once in a while there are some BS hits that shouldn't have happened but at least for me that happens quite rarely.
It's probably different from person to person, otherwise I have no idea how could some people suffer from them so often while others almost never metion them.
It depends on servers. On NA west there were alot of vpn users and killers who just plain font have good internet. I so know you play on different servers than me.

Killer is definitely the easier and less annoying and boring role right now. Not to mention the queue times are instant. Most hits on the survivor end look sooooo bad right now it's unreal. And on the killer's end it's perfectly fine. It really doesn't feel great to play at all, it just feels like you're getting robbed at every opportunity and I really hate it.
This exactly you can outplay a killer but their internet outplays you. Thus I switched to the more fun side. Hella bp and I get to mindgame survivors which is the best thing to do.

The killer's weapon hitbox is a massive square, the hits you showed are nothing other than normal and easy to understand. If you take the time to look at the videos you posted, you're standing well within range of a basic attack. Honestly I'm more concerned with the fact that you repeatedly fast vault shack window simply by slightly sprinting for a millisecond beforehand.
I'm glad you're finding relaxing rank 1 matches though, you got any tips for playing Blight on a controller?
Ill start with the hits. Those hits are not normal nor easy to understand. Judging by how you reacted to me shift teching a fast vault/walking into it I take it you either rarely play survivor are have not gotten good enough to know the ins and outs.
If you fully land a fastvault you are safe in a normal situation where hits are fair. Test it in a kill your friends. If you fast vault a window and stand there then a killer lunges you wont get hit.
For blight on controller run max sense and work on flicks and not getting spun. Basics is all you need really. Once you get those down. The mirror advanced stuff comes in. PC is the only way to take it to another level

If playing survivor makes you frustrated, playing killer is going to make your brain cannibalize itself. Unless you're below red/purple ranks, green & below is pretty casual from what I remember. Also, survivor queue is bad because playing killer is significantly more frustrating than survivor. Also, also, getting hit through windows in intentional, it's not going to be changed because that's something killers are supposed to do. Windows are an infinite resource, but they're not as safe as pallets, at least they're not supposed to be.
Killer is not frustrating its relaxing. I get easy teams way more than sweat teams which can be boring but atleast I'm learning blight. I am red rank as killer. Funny that you say getting hit through windows are intentional I dont think you understand. Since you dont explain these hits.

Blights power has a lot of area left wide open for players to explore, utilize, and apply skill.
Right now, it seems like the Twins are closed off with a multitude of mechanics which don't really let the player work outside of an intended formula.
That's my take on it thus far. Going to marathon the Twins until I find out what makes them good or get engulfed in unending depression.
That's what makes him do good in still learning him but I'm getting better and better as the days go on.

Damn that looked so sketchy though.
Kind of a shame that you need particularly high dps to get better turning. Although to be fair I would argue that the turing in your original video is a bit too much anyways. Some middle ground between that and the turning I have at the moment I feel would be nice. I just think it's a shame that a killer power's effectivity is partially tied to the mouse sensitivity.
The lunge should have a fixed turning value no matter the mouse sensitvity. Then they could balance the turning of his lunge perfectly.
To be fair maybe even onis flick could be bypassed through high dpi. I also want to say that you do not need to be able to hit crazy 180 flicks for blights effectiveness. It would be great to have in your kit but just having high sense to do some basic flicks would be good enough.
