  • I would enjoy if while not controlled, Charlotte moved at 50% speed towards the direction of Victor. It's not a huge amount, but enough that when you down someone she's likely to not be standing there in the corner of the opposite side of the map.

  • Depends, do you want a PR answer about how they didn't consider it a fair trade off, or do you want the accurate answer that they legitimately couldn't fix the bugs in the perk so just started stripping off effects instead?

  • God, what's the point in it now? Get a notification all 6 times the person running Plunderer's gets a key per match?

  • Yep, just an overwelmingly bad decision making process. Everyone knows they're the counterparts on both sides with basically the exact same problems, but let's just nerf one because it's ready and leave the other for what could be another year or two.

Personally I'm also pretty annoyed that this means one in every three bloodwebs for killers now has a 7000bp node that is utterly worthless instead of an ultra rare add on. It's just like all those worthless purple offerings we get forced to buy except more expensive.

Don't get me wrong, I know keys and moris need a change, but I just didn't want to see the devs mess it up by doing one before the other

I legitimately just can't understand the mentality of releasing one change without the other. This is what happens when a game has no competition, there's no pressure to make good decisions.

  • I think the change is positive overall, but I think the decision to drop this change, whether it was ready or not, without addressing the equivalent problem on the survivor side was downright bad.

  • So the short answer is "it's better for a perk to be absolutely terrible because it has too many conditions to ever be worth using, than risk the meta being even slightly not stale by seeing how it plays out with fair restrictions."

It is the consensus of the psychological field that de-transitioning is mostly an issue of the extreme hostility trans people face trying to transition, more than a 'regret' of transitioning itself. People don't de-transition because they realize that being trans was a phase, they almost universally do it in the face of extreme harassment and psychological pressure. De-transition rates are .3% meaning about 3 in 1,000 trans people get ANY level of detransitional treatment. From the perspective of being a mental health treatment, that is downright miraculous.

The act of transitioning even without gatekeeping hurdles is such a massive challenge that the amount of people doing it on a whim is 0%. Like ######### isn't getting your hair dyed.

Furthermore, even if people DID regret transitioning, which to be EXTREMELY clear it is not, it is pretty much objective fact that dysphoria is a super serious thing that is actively life threatening due to its extreme mental health effects, and refusing to allow transition because of a de-transition epidemic that, again, really obviously isn't happening, is akin to withholding a life saving treatment from a group because less than a percentage of them will have a negative reaction to it. There are many treatments we consider absolutely essential to obtain for similar reasons as transition (such as anti-depressants) that have a higher failure rate than transitioning.

You're perfectly welcome to cover your eyes and ears to what's actually happening, that's not my problem and I have better things to do with my time than argue with someone who is arguing for an agenda, not the truth.

I expected links to studies, articles, etc., not just casually mentioning one court case as if it was representative of the usual experience for teen girls and a book that I'd have to pay for and read in full, which could very well take weeks.

Just for the record, you literally expected me to be familiar with a court case in a country I'm not even from and presented my "ignorance" as a failure on my part. Does that sound reasonable to you? Should I expect you to be familiar with current court cases in the Sudan or Azerbaijan?

Do I expect people to be even vaguely familiar with a court case that has been in global headlines for the past week surrounding the topic they're bringing up? Maybe I don't expect perfection, but I don't tend to go around starting highly controversial political discussions without at least glancing at what's going on recently. Here's a quick on-topic article related to the case; https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/dec/06/keira-bell-lawyer-warns-on-internet-coverage-of-transgender-issues

Here's the best link I can give you surrounding the book, https://open.spotify.com/episode/4SIh4Pt39AtGQYzMJMNkv1 I certainly don't pay for spotify so that should be available to you, unfortunately the youtube versions have been removed. (Important to note that it's worth listening to the first minute before deciding there's 'transphobia' from the name, because the issues being discussed are far from it.) She's an amazing woman who has put her own career on the line simply out of concern for the safety of young girls.

And in short, yes, I would say it's ignorance to enter a conversation saying "I don't know the current issues, or the extreme influence activists are having on politics and the medical field, so I'm going to assume that you're wrong."

Or you could provide sources for your claims, like in a normal discussion. I'm not about to do your research for you.

I've referenced current court cases, highly researched books, and experts in the field. If you want a thousand word essay with harvard referencing, you might want to remember you're on a forum about a game.

  • I personally dislike it. Not adding an LGBT character, but the fact that they didn't just do it. They had to make it an "announcement" and release clarifying tweets later on. It feels coddling and trying to make a token character. You want to add a character that sleeps with someone of the same sex? Great. You want to do that to show that it's normal and be inclusive? Great. So why single that out and act like it's a big deal that you're doing it. It shouldn't be a big deal and that's the point.

They also released a comment somewhere about how they "don't want to add a character who's sexuality is their entire personality," which is good, and I agree with, but at the same time I feel like because they created so much buildup for it they'll receive backlash if they add a character that just slips the word "boyfriend" into their lore.

You think adding a trans character to the game implies advocating for trans people, including the extremists. The exact same argument can be made for adding straight characters.

I've never heard of massive activism in that direction, just FYI. I've heard claims of it from less than reputable sources, usually those with a vested interest in making anything non-heteronormative look bad, but a sizable movement? No.

I mean, trans people are a tiny fraction of the world's population, so how exactly do you explain the claim that there are large groups of activists pressuring young girls into transitioning? How do you explain doctors just prescribing testosterone supplements when every trans person has to go through extensive psychological and psychiatric evaluation before determining if they are indeed trans?

Sorry, but the idea that trans people have organized a mass movement to get all teen girls to transition just seems like a conspiracy theory.

I mean if you're going to openly admit to being completely ignorant to what's been going on this week let alone through this whole year, I don't feel the need to waste time trying to have a civil discussion with you. Do yourself a favour and actually research what's happening before you decide it's impossible.

Irreversible Damage, it's a really excellent read, and there's legitimate reason why it's being rated one of the best books of the year while remaining so controversial.

  • @Orion said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1803357#Comment_1803357

I understand the concern, but the actions of extremists should not be used to paint the entire group in a negative light. It's unreasonable to blame all heterosexuals for the actions of homophobes and it's equally unreasonable to blame all trans people for those abusers. By your logic, we'd just never have any characters in DbD.

No, but adding a straight character to a game doesn't imply advocation for homophobia. The current issues surrounding transgender activism stem largely from teenage girls being told overwhelmingly that becoming trans is a good option, and it's followed up with overwhelming blind support from strangers on the internet, and the immediate short-term positives of taking testosterone.

Actively going out of the way to add a trans character and add another source of praise, especially in a game where it isn't relevant or necessary, is just one more push forward for a harmful movement.

Again, I want to stipulate this, I do not believe being trans or transitioning is bad, just that the overwhelming propaganda surrounding it is causing confusion and damage to young people who don't understand the implications of what they're getting themselves into, and I don't believe the game should be hitching itself to that wagon.

  • I definitely don't agree. The B is definitely underrepresented, or more ignored as there's never really discussions about bi in general. But currently, especially on the internet and in the media, T is, if anything, overrepresented.

There's serious issues currently surrounding what amounts to child abuse and medical malpractice, such as is coming out in the Keira Bell case that's just been through British High Court. If you've had a look into Abigail Schrier's "Irreversible Damage" there's some seriously worrying trends in the last few years that are likely to cause severe damage to (mostly) young girls, and a lot of it is due to overwhelming support than any form of transition is inherently good and never to be questioned.

I don't want the survivor to be trans. Not because there aren't trans people who deserve support or representation, but because the over-glorification of being transgender, and the actions of extremist activists is actively causing harm to young girls at the moment, and that's not something I want to be supportive of.

  • Imagine bragging about steam achievement percentages on a four year old game that regularly has free weekends, let alone right after its worst received patch in memory.

  • I've found it incredibly satisfying to pallet stun a killer while they zoom at me with it.

Edit: also how is it a flex to show that you couldn't defend a single generator?

  • You might not have realised it was an "event" because they didn't bother to put in any form of news banner, popup, text explaining it when you get the drop, or even a display that shows an advent calendar opening each day that could have been thrown together in 5 minutes in MS Paint.

  • That and look at how ######### it is in the trailer. The entire head is like a big rubber mask with teeth glued on the front, there's no movement, no animation, just a big slab of rubber.

    Absolutely abysmal.

  • It's just blatantly and shamelessly trying to bump up numbers on twitch so the game looks more popular than it is. Meanwhile, the game is falling into disrepair and the community is pissed with them.

  • I'm still very much in favour of just renaming the "No One Escaped" score event at the end of the match to "Merciless Victory."

Then a double pip can be renamed to whatever they like and the achievements would all be better.

  • Absolutely not, just owning the game and the cast at this point costs hundreds of dollars. It's a MASSIVE wall of entry to new players that sees many turn away day one. This is also a paid game that uses a free-to-play game's method of moneymaking through the skeezy auric cells and the "give us more money at once or we'll charge you even more for them" type of 'discount.' Add on to that that a vast amount of the cosmetic store is devolving into "sets" meaning "it's $15 for a skin or nothing" and the battle pass which gives basically nothing to free players.

The entire game is an onslaught of "GIVE US MONEY" already as it is. If anything should happen around DLC, it should be converting older original chapters itno free base-game content.

For me the biggest head scratcher is why they balance perks sooooo slowly. Most esports titles go through balance updates at a dramatically faster rate than DBD has, and in those games - mistakes in buffs/nerfs can ruin a meta where significant money is on the line. There is no such danger in DBD, and so many small, simple numerical adjustments to underused perks could add so much more replayability to the game. It's utterly bizarre, but I'm sure they have their reasons but it's unusually bad for an online game.

Other than that I think they do an ok/good job for the most part. That has always stood out to me and they've never improved in any meaningful way.

And in nearly any other game, if 4 perks are used by both sides in a vast majority of games, those perks would see nerfs pretty quickly rather than be completely ignored for a really stale, boring meta for literally years at a time.

  • It's the labour of love award, not the labour of 'give us a lot of cash' award. If this year's halloween event, and the introduction of arbitrary set cosmetics have been any indication, there's not a whole lot of love around the game any more.

  • Because they couldn't think of anything else to make it scale over 3 tiers.

They should just remove it and make the tiers "maximum of 1/2/3 uses" which at max tier would be no different to just not having aura reading.

  • I am mostly a killer player and I can't believe people are defending it. I can't remember the last time I gained bloodlust without needing to break a pallet 2 seconds later anyway.

If you're legitimately chasing someone for 30+ second without breaking a pallet or getting a hit, you're doing something severely wrong.

I'm actually not seeing that a lot, so that's interesting. I wonder if it's a console vs PC thing. I keep seeing Pop, Corrupt, and Thrilling along with BBQ.

Thrilling isn't a slowing perk, it only affects gens that AREN'T being worked on and doesn't regress them, it's an information tool very similar to BBQ.

Multiple slowing perks isn't uncommon because the biggest issues killers face is gen speed, and rather than actually do anything to balance that at a base level, the devs would prefer to add 60 different bandaids. Most other perks provide comparable benefit or more fun ways of interacting with the game as killer, but nothing really beats the tangible benefit of adding time and breathing room to the game.

  • I did the maths during the first rift.

1 hour a day is technically true if we're only considering time spent within a match AND you complete every challenge AND every day you play both killer and survivor to get the first match XP bonus. Adding queue time to that alone almost doubles the time commitment, and that's before considering how the amount of shards from the challenges has varied wildly over the different passes.

  • Oh yeah, it can be real original. Not like Mortal Kombat and Dota have already done that for decades at all.

  • Go to the killer player's house, and rip off his M2 button, otherwise every time he presses it someone goes down.

  • I mean, you could put a lot of effort into complaining about it, or you could grow some thicker skin and not have any issues like 99% of people do. It's up to you really.

  • Asking for it yourself is pretty desperate.

  • I don't see the issue with power struggle. As killer I generally don't carry under pallets regardless, now I just keep not doing that especially after 3-5 seconds.

It's one of those perks that would be overpowered if it were reliable, but as it isn't people won't be running it after day 1 since it will barely ever pay off. They'll go straight back to DS/DH/UB that are all much more reliable and either go off in most games, or give them a huge boost without going off.

  • Could be an interesting addition to Pig's RBTs. No more choice, you have a bear trap on, it's time to remove it.

  • Well seeing as I didn't know who the ######### "Steve" was, I googled it and it's ######### Minecraft.

So I guess Steve is the character that jumps the shark, that goes too far towards #########, memey, and aimed at under 12 year olds.

So I'd put my vote on FNaF.

  • Ok, first, it was perfectly reasonable to assume it was a Claudette skin. Especially in the trailer I didn't realise it was a new survivor until she had a name at the end. Claudette gets a LOT of variation in cosmetics and nothing about this suggested any differently. If they released a more urban character who dresses in baggy jeans and is more themed around a harder life than Claudette people could argue that "Claudette doesn't fit that style," but we're still getting that as a cosmetic set from the community.

Secondly, I don't think it's so much "Claudette #2" meant as "Woman of Colour #2," I would assume it's meant more that everything about her except the ludicrously bright top is shades of black and brown. The second she gets a darker top cosmetic there'll be people latching on for the exact same intention of being Blendies.

  • Uh, whichever ones I chucked on when I thought about it that one time, and never changed since.

Ok kiddo, Silent Hill is "niche" now.

    You wot.

Alright, I'll pretend I'm taking this seriously for a second. The killer is a woman, or at least sounds like one. I don't think it's licensed at all and even then I still think Until Dawn is closer to the trailer.

Look, I get it - you want Springtrap in the game, but when your name is "SpringtrapforDbD" and all your posts are like this... It's starting to come across as a troll thing.

I mean, it's amazing how so much of the DBD community doesn't want anything to do with the FNaF community when this is their flagship.

Did you even read the post, it's only been up for a minute! Read it before judging it

Nobody needs to read it any more. We've all seen the 3500 posts, and that's just counting yours.

We get it, the big fuzzy teddy bears are soooo mature, and the lore that changes every game is so deep. FNaF is truly a horror icon because it took so much effort to copy and paste a jump scare 100 times in a $2 game, it really stands up against horror icons that have transcended generations.

    Snore.

  • People take the kill rate percentage at face value far too much without thinking about it.

A 50% kill rate is NOT a balanced state.

There are 5 outcomes for kills, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4. The simple fact of the matter is that either side of 2k, the results that push the value upwards are easier.

It is incredibly hard to not get a single kill. Even when you're having a bad game, it's usually possible to camp a single person do death in the end game. If someone unhooks them, hit that person during the unhook and they have no chance to get away before being downed. Eventually one person will die. To get a 0k the survivors either have to be incredibly coordinated or the killer has to be pathetic.

In a match where a killer has a 3k, it's a lot easier to bump that up to a 4k than to get 1 more kill on top of 1 or 2 kills. You can slug people for the 4k. You can find the hatch and know where to go to shut it. Most maps have a decent chance that with some thought you can get betwee nthe gates fast enough, or move to have vision of the lights fast enough to prevent the 3rd chance escape. One it's down to 2 survivors, it's rare that survivors do anything to progress the game except hope the other guy dies first.

So simply put, it's easier to get a 1k than a 0k, and it should be. And with smart play, the 4th kill is easier than any of the other 3, which it should be in a 1v1 situation. Those are always going to skew the value to above 50%, even though the actual performance in those matches doesn't change to the same degree.

How is there no good reason to tease an unlicensed chapter? Do you not know what a teaser is? Why do you think games, tv shows and movies all release teasers before a full trailer? It’s to start conversations and build hype, which is exactly what’s happening.

I’m a fan of Until Dawn and I never said it wouldn’t be a good fit. It just isn’t this chapter. If they were to get the license for it, we’d know. They wouldn’t tease it like this, they would straight up tell us. However, I don’t think it will ever come to this game though, because of how Sony are with their exclusives. I can’t see them allowing their characters in DBD.

Yes, but the theorising isn't actually great when all that anyone theorises around is licenses that they probably don't have. It doesn't 'build hype' so much as raise hopes to dash them.

  • @iZombie said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1734053#Comment_1734053

I just don’t see it. The only similarity is the fact it looks like a Wendigo. Until Dawn is known for snow, the woods in the teaser are very generic. Plus, I’m almost 99.99% sure this isn’t a licensed chapter. Logically, they’d have no reason to tease it.

They’d want people who played Until Dawn to come over to this game. One of the main reasons we get licensed chapters is because of the money they generate. They got me because of Halloween and I’m pretty sure a lot of others discovered this game because of the crossovers.

There's no good reason to tease an unlicensed chapter either. All you do is show the 50 million licensed franchises it could be then release some random crap out of left field. Like when they showed Plague's hand, people can guess whatever they like but nobody was like "yup, that's a projectile vomiting babylonian priestess."

Until Dawn was pretty popular, I don't see why they'd have any reason not to go for it except for the risks surrounding playstation exclusivity. Sony would probably be up for it because it gives people a reason to consider buying a PS5 since it's back compatible with PS4 games, they may want to play it after seeing it in DBD alongside other icons.

I don't think it IS Until Dawn because the hand is just a bit to fat and human to be the Wendigo, but I don't see anything else that comes close to theorise around.

  • I mean it's a bit of a mixed bag isn't it?

Every other theory is "Until Dawn," and it seems pretty clearly aimed to bait that theory. So now the chapter is either Until Dawn, or a bunch of people annoyed that they got their hopes up for it.

That or it's a non-licensed chapter and they've already set themselves up for "it's just a ripoff of Until Dawn."

  • Suddenly relevant.

Let them Dead Hard, they drop the pallet, turn around and leave to go protect a gen. It's a big brain gamer play.

Yeah, really stick it to them. You know what else I bet they'd hate? If you didn't chase them for another 40 seconds, then they'd have Dead Hard up again, and you've really shown them what for.

  • Good it's awful. Just because he inflicts madness in game doesn't mean I need to feel it every match I play as him from the stabbing repetitive noise all match long.

  • I've said it from the start of charms, there's no good reason why they aren't all universal.
