Honest question - don't take offense - but why do so many people watch these DBD streamers instead of just playing the game themselves? To each their own, I'm not saying it's "bad", I just never understood why someone who's interested in a game would rather just watch someone else play it when they could be having the fun instead.

Speaking for myself it's not really any different from someone who likes basketball, football, etc watching games on TV. If you're able to play yourself, you can. If not, or don't feel like it, watching people play is also fun.

  • I play both, going between survivor and killer based on my mood/ goals. Said goal is primarily earning as many bloodpoints in games as I can. I consider it a point of pride when I'm top scoring survivor despite dying, especially if others made it out. I'm not concerned with prestiging, though I may do it for at least my main(s) down the line. I've been more focused on getting things unlocked. I'm solid if/ when cross progression hits and in good shape even if it doesn't since I have every current killer perk unlocked.

I try to be a good sport. I don't go out of my way to antagonize the killer and, if me and my team roflstomp them, I'm usually fine letting them have the kill on me so they come away with one kill and a few more bloodpoints. I'll make an exception if the Killer is a tunneler, as that's the one thing I hate running into.

As killer, I avoid going out of my way to tunnel because, again, it's something I hate encountering as survivor. Furthest I'll go is slug off hook if given the opportunity, but not re-hook. This is to both to avoid DS and to allow a chance for a pickup. Way I figure it, if they have borrowed time they're forced to stop and mend. If they don't they're forced to Unbreakable or rely on a teammate leaving an objective for pickup. Pressures survivors either way.

I'm fine letting Survivors go. I don't go out of my way to farm (unless someone D/Cs out the gate) but once I have whatever I want in a game (ritual, rift challenge, bbq stacks, 2 hooks on everyone, etc) I'll mess around a bit more to max out points. Especially if there's Bloody Party Steamers or cakes in play.

In fact I regularly play killer during bloodhunts precisely because that seems to bring out the sweatier killers, and I figure people will enjoy at least one more chill game among whatever else they're getting.

  • Another advantage to Blood Warden in this scenario: Regardless of whether you get it to work or not, you can know when they're standing at the gate to go and just not go there yourself if you don't want to.

  • Unless you don't get hurt often or heal quickly, it seems like Lucky Break will be a perk most useful in the Early Game than anywhere else. Plus common Killer perks like Sloppy Butcher and less common ones like Coulrophobia can be used to shave seconds off of Lucky Break's timer for those that do try to heal due to the increased heal times.

  • If it helps to give an idea of what a 1-shot Iri Head Huntress might be like, OhTofu did a video asking "Would Iridescent Head Be Balanced If You Only Had 1 Hatchet?" and he plays a pair of games with Iridescent Head but no extra hatchet add-ons.

  • My personal favorite was a Survivor salty at me for using an OP Perk combo of Barbecue & Chili and Infectious Fright. Most situations, that might not be unreasonable since they complement each other... thing is I was playing Freddy, specifically I was playing what I call my "Stupid Build" which consists of BBQ, Distressing, Infectious, Dark Devotion. So, basically, the Survivor was mad at me for using a perk combo that wouldn't even work most of the time (seriously, the one thing I love about IF on Freddy is it's hilarious when I can make it work).

  • I've actually taken to doing this as a policy. If the Killer gets stomped and has no kills by the time the gates are open then, barring me having some reason to do otherwise like a Daily or something, I'll let them have me as a kill. I play for points so often as not I'm okay at that stage as far as that goes.

  • For Forever Freddy, how about add on "does not stack with other effects"? Won't remove things like Pop from the equation but will stop Thanatophobia or or similar effects. Alternatively, give it a downside like "Survivors automatically wake up after so much time" or otherwise make waking up easier to do.

Also, can't Myers already stalk multiple Survivors if they're in one place?

  • Pig's not my first choice of killer to play but I can see where she'd be good for this. Unrelated I want to try Undying/Lullaby with her (I know it doesn't effect Jigsaw boxes it's more about seeing if I get any benefit from forcing them to split their attention between watching for me and skill checks).

There's also the option of a Forever Freddy build, but I'm not sure that isn't more obnoxious than I'm prepared to be.

  • I stand corrected, though I think that "they didn't fix anything" is the overall perception, accurate or not, since the general opinion of most of these changes was "don't do them" and they (a) did them anyway and (b) got a whole bunch of extra bugs added on top for good measure. There's a reason the general feeling I've seen is "the devs don't listen to feedback" and/ or "don't care what the players think". Even now with the tweeted changes to the HUD I'm now entirely convinced the only reason is because people were so vehemently against the changes to begin with.

Arin: Look, there's two spaces between Frank Chiechi.

    Danny: I missed it.

Arin: Like, they couldn't even quality assure their ######### credits.

Danny: *Laughs* Yeah, they spelled "Quality Assurance" K-W-A-L-I-T-Y.

    Arin: *Dumb voice* KWALITY!

And then they hit Functionality Testers

Arin: Functionality testers!? *Dan loses it* Why are there so many!? There's a lot of them!

Danny: All these people are, like, tied up and gagged in a room.

    Danny: Wow..."Why is this—!? AAGH!"

It is not reasonable to expect the devs to fix every issue identified in the PTB in time for release. It is also not reasonable to expect them to revert time-intensive changes like new animations and HUD updates because of the first impressions of a small subset of players on one platform. People always hate new UI in any software, but once they get used to it they usually realize it's not so bad. I'm expecting the same thing to happen here. It's not perfect, but it's not worth being this dramatic about either.

I also don't recall them every saying MMR would be released in this update - did they explicitly say it was being delayed, or are you inferring that by it not being present in 4.5.0?

I think the problem isn't that they didn't fix every issue, it's that they didn't fix any issues. It's perfectly reasonable to expect the devs to fix at least some of the issues brought to their attention.

NO DS NERF. YOU HAVE NO IDEA THE RATE OF TUNNELING KILLERS TO SURFACE WILL BE. Killers don't like DS? Quit F'ing tunneling off hook.

For sake of reference, post-nerf DS is useful for this exact scenario. It's getting DS'd even when the Killer hasn't been tunneling that's the problem.

  • Just because it doesn't make you the Obsession doesn't mean Blood Pact isn't an Obsession perk.

If the Legion goes into Frenzy when using a perk that gives Undetectable status like Tinkerer or Trail of Torment, does going into Frenzy cancel the Undetectable status? Does it make a difference if you're using the add-on that makes your terror radius fill the whole map?

In the specific case of Trail of Torment you would lose Undetectable because injuring or downing a Survivor removes ToT's Undetectable effect.

  • The most noticeable issue to me, personally, is a significant drop in graphics quality compared to other platforms. I have played in a while on switch but I've also heard of Framerate issues being addressed by the devs.

  • To me, tunneling involves a certain level of intent. You need to be actively focused on a Survivor at the expense of all the others. I've seen Killers pursue a specific Survivor even as others are right there, doing gens in front of them, and/or throwing themselves between Killer and target and being ignored. That is tunneling.

The title pretty much says it all. We've said why it is objectively worse in any measurable way:

Icons are spread to far, Icons are in the way of FOV, less intuitive icons for downed, it adds nothing despite these changes, etc etc.

I am yet to see anyone actually give a reason FOR these changes. The closest I've seen is "its not that bad" or just the blanket "accessibility". Am I missing something? Why is this mandatory change being made if no one has a reason to implement it despite the majority of the community hating it, and the minority being just indifferent?

I remember one of the devs saying somewhere that part of the reason for the new HUD was so they could implement further enhancements that the current HUD won't let them do. Nothing more specific than that, from what I remember, though.

  • One thought might be to offer some kind of incentive to use certain perks, like the Daily Rituals or Rift Challenges. Basically get a bonus if you do X while using Y perk. Like survive or escape a chase while using Quick & Quiet or Iron Will, or prevent X screams while using Calm Spirit, or build up a total of X tokens of perks like Stake-Out, Save the Best For Last, or Huntress' Lullaby, and offer bloodpoint or shard rewards for doing so.

Hag if already having a trap on a tile is good but that´s more situational isn´t it, i mean i can´t trap every tile but most of them if i don´t place them on gens, totems and so on,

Spirit/Deathslinger/Huntress are (atleast for me) higher tier killer so they can keep their speed they are already slow.

I see that you have a point with slower killer need there power to down survivor but even so some of them could need the extra speed (and we are only talking about a change from 4.4 to 4.6).

And even some killer with powers, which don´t help downing survivors directly, could need a little nerf in speed. Best example would be freddy

he makes survivor slower or creates fake paletts both giving almost an free hit every time, on top of that he can teleport through gens i don´t see him needing to be this fast.

Plague can make any survivor 1 hit but her power itself doesn´t help her chasing them, if her red puke isn´t available the whole game you need to depend on bloodlust (what no killer should need to)when you can´t catch anyone u dont have time to break every pallet.

Legions power helps him downing survivor but he has 4.6 speed so what about him he is not as bad as ppl present him, he is literally the same as plague if she doesn´t have her red puke which is almost the case every time at good ranks.

If I remember correctly, didn't Legion start out as a 4.4 because their power gave them a speed boost? Over time they were made 4.6 but their speed boost from Feral Frenzy was reduced.

  • If all the Perks have a musical reference then I call Dio Brando as the next killer.

  • is this live or PTB? Because I don't think the changes to Bear Trap escape rates are live yet.

  • Earlier this week I was in a game up against a Cannibal. The Killer could have won super easily, as we threw hard at the start. One person got hooked early, I tried to get close so I could unhook and not be seen by BBq, but was seen by the Killer and downed, a third person was downed doing more or less the same thing that I was. So guy had 3 people on hook within a couple minutes.

From there, though, the fourth person got us free, and the Leatherface, if not quite farming, then at least let us have the escape and hassled us a little here and there for his own points, which is my own farming strategy so I'm absolutely fine with it.

I made sure to thank the magnanimous Bubba once the game was over.

  • Mine wasn't a niche perk, in and of itself, but its usage is a whole other matter.

I occasionally like to play the Nightmare with what I call a "Stupid Build", consisting of Terror Radius perks like Dark Devotion, Distressing and, the important ones for this story, Infectious Fright and Barbecue & Chili.

I like I.F. on Freddy because I find those times I get it to actually work to be funny. In this match, I was on the Game, and it was a pretty fast victory despite the build on my part. I track down and down the final Survivor, and they D/C. In the after-match chat, they get upset for using the combo of Barbecue and Chili and Infectious Fright.

Any other scenario, they might have had a point. Less so when I was using Infectious Fright on Freddy, a Killer whose whole thing is negating his own Terror Radius.

    Pointing this out went unnoticed.

Hi everyone, few months back, I made the decision to fully commit to gaming on PC as my primary gaming platform. At the time, I was really discouraged from playing DBD on PC because well, I put so much work and money into Console.

Now that a buddy of mine told me he received some sort of notification regarding cross progression and play. I decided the best place to verify it was here in the forums from active players and would like to ask. Is this true? Or is there a level of misconception behind it. In short, can I transfer my stuff, including dlc, over to steam? If I can, how? and what if I own some of the items on both platforms? How does the game accommodate for that?

Thinking of getting back anyways, but this would definitely push me to do so.

Cross-play yes, Cross-Progression is still in progress. Right now the only platforms offering Cross-Progression are Steam and Google Stadia. Nintendo Switch is slated to be added to that but unless there's been news since last I heard that's not implemented yet. XBox and Playstation are currently no-gos pending negotiation.

  • When I've been in that situation, up against a Killer who's getting stomped because they just can't get a hook or what have you, I've started to just let them have me at the endgame. Give them a kill so they don't come out empty handed. Exceptions are when I have a daily or challenge or the killer is a tunneler, which I have no inclination to reward.

Thanks a lot. I take this opportunity for another question. What does obsession exactly mean? How does the killer see the survivor?

The one consistent thing, besides the chase twitches already noted, is Survivors get extra Survival points for being the Obession at the end of a match. 1,000 points if they die, 1,500 if they escape. From there it varies depending on the perk used. To offer some examples:

    Survivor Perks:

Blood Pact: You and the Obsession see one another if either of you are injured and, if one of you heals the other, you get a running speed boost as long as you stay close to each other. Does not work if the user of the Perk is also the Obsession.

Object of Obsession: Increases the range at which you and the Killer can see one another when you are the Obsession.

Unique Wedding Ring (Key Add-On): Lets you see the Obsession's aura.

Most Survivor perks also increase or decrease the odds of your being the Obsession.

    Killer Perks:

Dark Devotion: When you hit the Obsession with a basic attack, you become Undetectable for a time. During that period, the Survivor gets a Terror Radius.

Save the Best For Last: When you hit a non-Obsession with a basic attack, you gain tokens that speed up your recovery after landing hits. If you hit the Obsession with a basic attack, you lose tokens.

Rancor: Whenever a Generator is done, you briefly see everyone's positions on the map and the Obsession sees yours. When all Generators are completed, the Obsession becomes Exposed (downable in one-hit) and can be killed (Mori'd)

A more full list is here: https://deadbydaylight.fandom.com/wiki/Obsession

Hi, a curiosity but what do those hooks that move around the character's name mean?

Those little Entity Claws represent the Obsession. If they're present at all, it means one of the players (Survivor or Killer) has brought an Obsession-based perk such as Decisive Strike or Save the Best for Last. Fun fact: The claws will wiggle when the Obsession is being chased by the Killer. So if you are not the Obsession and you see the claws start twitching, you now know the Killer is chasing them.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is tunneling? Focusing on one survivor?

Basically. It's generally used in reference to running down a survivor that just got unhooked, giving them no opportunity to recover or get back into the game.

Borrowed Time and Decisive Strike are part of my own usual build because that's the one thing I personally hate encountering. I also run Babysitter occasionally.

As for the op question of how to be a well mannered killer, my main rule is "don't go easy, but also go out of my way to be an a-hole". In reference to the above, I won't tunnel off hook, but I will slug off hook, but but re-hook nor impede the pickup, to keep to map pressure if the opportunity presents itself.

I suck with STBFL always lose my stacks. always feels like a wasted perk slot. I feel like the obssession is magnetized to me and my weapon swings itself.

Could swap STBFL with an obsession perk that banks on hitting the obsession like Dead Man's Switch or Remember Me.

Also, I have noticed the trend bad killers have. They start farming when they play bad and get destroyed.

Basically proving that you are too bad to play the game the intended way.

I'm the opposite, personally. I'm more inclined to farm when I have a significant advantage and have leeway to mess around. Same time I don't think I farm the way most use the term. I go in with a goal (ritual, challenge, Barbecue and Chili stacks, etc) and I play sweaty until I have what I want. After that, I focus on getting everyone to second hook. Once I've got that, then I'll either farm whatever points I still need and let them escape, or start going in for the kill. That part varies on my mood.

In my particular case, I tend to keep my killer rank low to avoid the worst of the sweatlords and because I don't play super often comparedto others.

All that said, I have no issue whatsoever with the occasional farming Killer. As noted earlier it's a nice change of pace and I want dem tasty tasty bloodpoints, so I usually have no reason to be against it.

  • The Nightmare:

Barbecue & Chili, Dark Devotion, Distressing, Infectious Fight

BBQ is just for points, while the other three make up a Stupid Build that revolves around terror radius perks on a Killer that regularly negates his own terror radius. Dark Devotion is one of my favorite "for fun"perks and I always get a laugh whenever I get Infectious Fright to trigger.

I once had someone get mad at me to the point of D/Cing in endgame because I used Infectious and Barbecue together. They didn't seem to grasp my point that I was using Infectious on Freddy.

This thread. It was made for me.

Survivor: Stake Out/Lithe/Self Care/Soul Guard - Why? Because why not. Who needs synergy?

Trapper - Haunted Grounds/Blood Warden/Discordance/Overcharge - It's a trap. One that you must step in.

Wraith - Nurses Calling/Distressing/Bloodhound (or NOED)/Deerstalker - Ran with "The Beast" Soot and usually a speed up while cloaked add on. Survivors usually dunno how to react.

Hillbilly - Ruin/Distressing/Tinkerer/Devour Hope - It's quiet. TOO quiet...(Chainsaw all game except for when tinkerer procs)

    Nurse - Nurses Calling/Monitor and Abuse/Sloppy Butcher/Thanatophobia - It's safe to heal don't worry. I don't hear her terror radius...

Huntress - Monitor and Abuse/Iron Grasp/Spies from the Shadows/Brutal Strength - How did she get so close? Basement time.

Shape - Nemesis/Furtive Chase/Rancor/Deathbound - It's Obsession roulette time! A lot of survivors like this build and compliment me on it.

    Hag - Nurses Calling/Brutal Strength/Monitor and Abuse/Knockout - I can't hear her...where was that person downed? It's safe to heal right?

    Doc - Brutal Strength/Bamboozle/BBQ/Remember Me - Defenses? What's that?

Leatherface - Knockout/Ruin/Devour Hope/Nurses Calling - Hope you find the right totem! ...and your friend.

Freddy - Devour Hope/Ruin/Nurses Calling/Monitor and Abuse - Because I'm not very nice.

Pig - Monitor and Abuse/Enduring/Devour Hope/Ruin - I like hearing the pallet squeaks, fite me.

    Clown - Monitor and Abuse/Huntress Lullaby/Ruin/BBQ - Skillchecks amirite?

Spirit and Legion are kinda meta so skipping them

Plague - Corrupt Intervention/Ruin/Play with your food/Enduring - Oh you're injured? Don't mind if I catch up really fast.

Demogorgon - Haunted Grounds/Ruin/Rancor/Pop goes the weasel - Kinda standard but I like how it can rout a team quickly.

    Oni is meta

    Deathslinger - Nurses Calling/Thrilling Tremors/Devour Hope/Make your Choice - I just like it. lol.

Pyramidhead - Blood Warden/Nemesis/Dark Devotion/Ruin - Tap a tormented obsession and send him far away...with your terror radius. Have fun. Blood Warden has gotten me some really cheeky 4ks too.

Blight - Hex:Retribution/Thrill of the Hunt/Undying/Distressing - Please don't touch my totems noooooo

Twins - Opression/Ruin/Hex: The Third Seal/Cruel Limits - Perks are centered around Charlotte. Park Charlotte in a window heavy area and suddenly big uh-oh for the survivors.

God this game has a lot of killers now don't it? Lol. Weeeee

Hang on a second, Dark Devotion's effect persists in a Cage of Atonement? That DOES sound fun.

Stupid question: Does a DD'd Survivor keep the Terror Radius while on a hook, too? I confess that, much as i enjoy the perk, I never thought much about that aspect of it.

  • Not sure if this would be more or less RNG, but an idea I've had is make the odds of removing a Reverse Bear Trap determined by how many boxes you've searched.

    0 boxes searched: 25% chance

    1 box searched: 50%

    2 boxes searched: 75%

    3 boxes searched: 100%

Add-ons that affect the number of boxes affect the odds accordingly.

My understanding is when you get a trap put on you, a random box is selected to be the one that will free you. You either get it right or you don't. The idea here is it doesn't matter which box you search, so your odds of getting the trap off become more consistent.

It also seen people suggest making Rules Set No.2 (Jigsaw Box auras aren't visible until the trap activates) a base-kit ability.

  • For myself, I try to be, if not friendly, than not an a-hole. I play killer for points and less seriously than Survivor, so if I can end a game early I won't because that doesn't favor me.

My usual philosophy is "plan to sweat, hope to screw around. " If I go into a match with a specific objective, be it a ritual, rift challenge, barbecue stacks, etc, I'll play seriously until I've got what I want. Then I'll play less hard and build up points. If someone d/c's or I see Bloody Party Steamers or anniversary cakes, I'm happy to go full farm and take advantage of that, or at least go out of my way not to go for the kill and let the survivors take away an extra 10k+ points.

Otherwise, I mostly just actively try to not be an a-hole. I won't tunnel off hook, though I will slug off hook (or trigger Borrowed Time) if the opportunity for the added pressure presents itself, I wait until I've got multiple people on death hook before going for the kill, and don't get super sweaty unless the Survivor team is going out of their way to be annoying.

But what about the 5% more regress if failing skillcheck

You can achieve a similar effect with Huntress' Lullaby. In that instance, you could even pair it with Undying since this scenario the tokens are bonuses, not goals, so losing them is less detrimental.

Also I imagine Overcharge would only trigger its effects on the generator actually kicked. It still synergizes with Oppression, due to the shared activation requirement, but that's about it.

  • I think the question been asked is "If my Stadia and Steam accounts are linked, can one person play on my steam account and another on my stadia account at the same time, or is that prevented by the accounts being linked?"

  • @notlonely said:

I only see complains but no solutions. What would ANY of you have done instead of this? Moris are now borderline useless, I agree, but they couldn't just leave them to be as OP as they were.

The one suggestion I've seen made is make it so Moris require every Survivor be hooked at least once before they activate as a way to mitigate the "tunnel off hook" aspect of them. Worst case only the fourth unhook would be vulnerable to tunneling.

As it is, there's nothing in this change to mitigate that. There's nothing new that prevents a killer from just tunneling someone through two hooks instead of one. Best you can do there is d/c or suicide on hook to deny the mori, but that still benefits the killer.

  • Yes to all. Undetectable does not hide power sounds. however Billy does have an addon that hides the sound of his chainsaw from any survivors outside his terror radius, so that can be used in conjuction with Undetectable.

  • Maybe that's part of why Victor offers Killer Instinct for Charlotte to follow. He acts as a Seeing-Eye Twin.

  • Yeah, their first attempt at MMR did exactly the opposite of what it was intended to do.

  • I'm going to buy with money, but only on PC. I'm a completionist when it comes to characters so buying new dlc characters is something I'm absolutely going to do. I play on pc and Switch primarily, so I'll only buy it for one and hope it crosses over once cross progression kicks in.

  • If you want to play on he Switch itself, yes you will need to buy the game for the Switch. Once cross progression is released for it, any progress you've made can be crossed/ combined with any progress you've made on Steam once you link both accounts to BHVR.

One thing, though, if you have not already, do not link your steam account to BHVR. There's an issue where you aren't able to add or invite cross play friends after doing so, which will get in the way if you're on Steam and your g/f is on Switch. The only way to fix this is to unlink your account from BHVR, which causes a loss of all progress made since you linked.

In short, you'll be able to merge your progress between platforms once cross progression is availabile and you link the accounts, but I do not recommend linking your steam account to BHVR until after it actually is availabile.

  • Survivor: Kindred. Even before the buff I loved it as a way to combat campers. I want to camp me? Great. Let's make sure everyone knows it. Post-buff it's even more useful as I can determine if I need to go for a save or not.

See i thought that but its not the name but the fact that we did the cross progression and its irritating cause this is the one game i get to play with my gf

So by opting into Cross-Progression we can't play with friends who don't' have the option of Cross-Progression?

Kiiiiiiiinda defeats the purpose of introducing Cross-Play if so.

so ever since the update to introduce crossprogression my crossfriends has not been working and have not been able to crossplay with console on pc why is this have the devs stopped console and pc or what i just want an answer if i need to switch to console just to play with my friends i would rather not so devs if you can give an answer on this if this is intentional or not i hope it isnt i hope other people arent having the same problems

I've had a similar experience. I noticed after connecting my pc account to BHVR my in-game name changed to a different code after the hashtag, and my friend on console could not make a friend request to nor accept a friend request from it. The buttons are there, they just don't select. At first I assumed it was from cross-progression/linking accounts. As I type this, though, I'm wondering if it might have come from changing my steam name while playing recently. That'll be something I'll play with and check today.
