Never played a Silent Hill game but I LOVE good lore so I've read/watched a lot on the series. I'm also of the opinion that the place itself has a power to project the metaphysical based on the thoughts and feelings upon it, like a really fuxed up mirror. Pyramid Head was just a construct, an idea, of James mind and once its purpose was concluded it was prepared to dissolve back into the aether of the town but, The Entity, sensing the rage, violence and persistence of it, came at the last moment and gave it something so rarely offered to beings of such existence: A new lease on life. The Entity offered to THINK of Pyramid Head, extend its existence AND reimagine it. No longer just tormentor but executioner. Stronger, faster unencumbered by the stipulation of having to stay its hand if some lesson was learned, Pyramid Head can now slaughter both repentant and bold while its new "Mother" feasts. See, what I think a lot of people miss is that everything in Silent Hill is just a projection and with no mind to project with, it all fades. Such would have been PH but The Entity, in a twisted nurturing sense, rebirthed him. The map and survivor probably plucked out of fragments of the memories within the place but she chose him. Silent Hill/Dead by Daylight lore intact AND IRL graphic update explained. *mic drop*
First of all, please don't drop the mic. Those things are expensive, and I'm not paid to clean up :p
Again, that works well! Silent Hill is the reflection of others, hence why the lore states how the land became corrupted, and in turn adapts to each individual. That's why I liked Shattered Memories, with its frozen Hell. Granted, it turned out it wasn't "real", but I liked that idea. Also, in Origins, each main area had its own reality: The hospital was gore; sanitarium was green and symbolic of madness; The theatre had woodland and roots throughout; and the Motel was more like the emptiness of the protagonist.
Whichever way you toss it, it's neat to be able to think of the reasons behind The Entity and its relationship with other realms. Now, can you get someone to pick up that mess please!

Maybe just endurance instead of gen speed
Yeah, quite possibly! In fairness the Ace perk luck booster things I just spewed out on the spot, but I like that roulette approach to helping others with a random mini-boost.

Here are some others to check out the film slither (2006). This is an 80’s classic Killer Klowns from outer space(1988) Invasion of the body snatchers 1978).Now for tv shows would say Sabrina the teenage witch Buffy the vampire slayer H20 Just add water (2006).Unless you’re a guy I would skip the last one.
Slither was the film which had that parasitic creature which took over bodies like "The Thing" at the petrol station? Or maybe I'm mistaking Slither with Splinter? Actually, is Slither the one with the inflated person in the barn who is "so hungry"? I've not seen that one.
But I was a huge fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer! It was so well written, and I loved how it narrated its paranormal episodes as similies for real life situations such as depression, peer pressure, growing up and many other situations. What's H2O? I'm a guy, and wondering why that may not be one to watch.

Exactly.
Although with regards to the Entity, she is an extradimensional creature: it's unlikely there are any other versions unless her origins are less cosmic and primordial than suggested by the Observer - since that would mean she originates from one of the infinite universes, rather than having always existed outside them.
That may be true also! The observer is basing his views on what he has seen and researched, so it depends on whether he has access to every working within his constructed library, or likewise he may have certain types of information, based upon what he has constructed. His level of knowledge dictates to us what is known, and to find out more about where and how this information is created - and what allows it - would be fascinating!
I hope BHVR leaves room for the imagination, because as it stands it creates some fun ideas and discussions!
-
Where did you find that?? Wherever that James came from, that was a little shocking to see. But that cosmetic would work!

I don't think anyone will disagree with you; but it's part of the established lore and probably the best explanation for how characters from ongoing licenses can be in DbD too.
Far from lazy, it actually creates the opportunity for more story telling and an infinite scope to work with. Certainly nothing like the "I'm in a coma" theory, which is now lazy because of its overuse.
It feels more lazy to just say "Here is Cheryl, and this happens to her, and that's it". No creativity. The multiverse theory is one of many theories people could consider, and probably does work within the confines of this game. Ultimately, it's whatever you make of it!
-
Slippery Meat: Reduces the time the killer can carry you by 3%/5%/8%
Monstrous Shrine: Hooks in the basement keep the same as before, but hooks elsewhere work with the same effect, minus 1%.
Hex:Thrill Of The Hunt: All totems alert the killer when work is started on them.
Up The Ante: Ace's luck rubs off on others. When Ace heals a survivor 1 health state (no matter how healed they were), he gains 1 token. On the third token, that survivor healed gains a random effect for a period of time: Haste 3%; 20% chance of jumping off hook; 2% speed to generator; blocks killer from seeing aura one time when a perk would otherwise activate it; sees the position of a random objective (gen/totem/gate/chest); one time use of invincibility when hit whilst vaulting.

I feel like an important part of DbD's lore is that it operates under the assumption of a multiverse.
It's not the Lisa Garland, but a version of Lisa Garland that the Entity has seen potential in and kidnapped.
Similar to how our Nancy and Steve went on an exploration of the Hawkins Lab and the Demogorgin was contained by the government and studied; despite that not being implied in the show.
Who knows what has happened to this Lisa, what she's gone through, and how she's gone through it.
-
This said, from a meta perspective I'm 90% sure she's just included to be a character from Silent Hill 1 (because I guess the devs couldn't get Harry or just don't think Harry is the COOLEST. DAD. EVER.)
Very much what I think. The Entity exists in one of infinite Universes. Lisa Garland here would exist in that one universe where The Entity can grab her. In the vast majority of universes, her fate would have many differences.
Mind you, another thing to consider is (taking into account the multiverse theory) how many Entities are there? Basically, each of us plays the game as if it was one of many universes, and we cross paths with each other in mergers or the same. And each character could have many versions of themselves, or their alternative outfits could be different people entirely, which we assume is suchandsuch, hence why we see their names. Like if The Entity makes The Wraith see everyone as Azarov.
Basically, you own the universe you play, and that reality is unique to you.
-
You could bring a Mori if you saw Dwight, Meg, Claudette and Jake in their vanilla outfits and no add-ons. You earnt the bloodpoints so you may as well enjoy the benefits!
-
Agreed. The best thing to do is actually lure the killer away from the hooked survivor. Most times it'll work and to be honest it works best for everyone in terms of pipping and bloodpoints.
-
I am very confident this won't be it but having James Sunderland as a Legendary cosmetic would be neat, especially since Pyramid Head is essentially birthed by him.
He can even wield The Great Knife!

"A game is as conpetitive as a player can make it"
Well there you go then. It' EXACTLY as you said in your own words. If you want to treat it and play it competitively you do that, if you want to play casually and not care about surviving/kills/rank then its casual for you, you cant just give it a blanket statement like that to cover every player in the playerbase
This.
I play always using a randomizer and set myself goals. If I achieve my goals, it doesn't concern me whether I 0k or 4k; survive or die. It's interesting to understand why some are so insistent on telling others whether a game should be competitive or not.
And as for the "Meta", the randomizer has given me mediocre perks, which still led to achieving a survival or 4k against higher ranks, and I've had an excellent build and been wrecked. Each trial brings its own challenges, and the only person I'm ultimately concerned with is myself and aiming for those goals.
In short, play how you want.
-
Nemesis Killer: The Shape. He just keeps on taking from me, and Tier 2 is the only time I feel like my heart might make it through the match.
Nemesis Survivor: Oddly, the worst I've had is Adam!! They often seen all cocky, what with there edumacation and shizzle.
A special mention goes out to The Ghost Face. I don't have so much of a problem against him, but that bumwipe just annoys me.
-
Genuinely none this week! I've had them before, sure. But these past seven days I've had nothing but fun, challenging matches, and either received "gg" or nothing. But the games have been decent. Green Rank Xbox player here.
-
If I contact others, it's always positive and constructive. If anyone contacts me negatively I respond in character (especially fun if I'm playing a Killer)

It would only be a few traps though is what I was trying to say.
Fair enough, and it would certainly add variety to the game! There would need to be some balance though. Even if it meant fewer pallets.
-
This may subvert the balance of power and pretty much make it a "hunt the killer" game, to grief with as many traps as possible.
If this was to happen, likewise the killer would have to have more at their disposal to compete. I play both sides, and as a survivor it would just be a game where you'd want to take out the killer and make it comedic. From a killer, the game would become so fragmented for me it would be unfun.
-
I'm hoping the new matchmaking will make a decent difference. As a rank 10 killer and rank 11 survivor, I've experienced this from both sides. Ironically, these games have made me better and am finding more ways to deal with survivors and killers alike!
But that's besides the point. Basically, other than for personal benefit, the ranking system shouldn't dictate the matchmaking, since it clearly isn't viable.
The sooner a better way of matchmaking is done and explained, the sooner there should be more favourable matches.

don't get me wrong, i don't mind if people are ok to pay them for no bug fixes
They've done numerous bug fixes in every update. Many are listed in the patch updates that can be viewed from this forum.
New bugs are bound to come about as the game evolves, but those bugs are then reported and looked into. I understand people get frustrated when bugs hit (as someone who's played Fallout, my God!), but it would be interesting for people to see if they can give more instances of bugs not fixed than bugs which are fixed.
-
Well, the devs do care about money, because without it the company goes bust, and they cannot pay their bills.
They also care about the state of the game, and the community by bringing lots of content, regular patches and answering questions of the public, as well as being on these forums with quite frankly very diplomatic comments considering what some say.
Sure, they make mistakes, but so does everyone else. Anyone who has been in any job for a period of time cannot say they've upseta customer or made a mistake. It's how they fix it which is important.
Fortunately, a lot of people do appreciate what the devs do. It's time they get a little respect back.
-
Live the full interactive Nurse experience! Wraps a pillow case around your head (make sure you used a scented fabric conditioner), make sure you can breath a bit (but not too freely), make sure you can't see crap and away you go!
Too easy, I hear you say? Well try The Hag diet before playing! This does include a couple of weeks living off nothing but water and maybe nibbling on any flesh you peel off, but when you do feel rather giddy, whack on DBD and give it a whirl!
-
Meh, dodging lobbies is nothing negative in my eyes. I don't dodge, only because I like to learn different survivor or killer setups, but no point playing a game if you're not going to enjoy it. Way better than DC mid-match.
-
The -er is racist, and the -a too, but depending on who you ask the -a could be seen as a term of endearment, depending on who says it to whom.
Personally, considering the -a is basically a descendent from -er, both are abhorrent. Changing a letter doesn't make it suddenly excuseable, and its regular, worrying use today does nothing to help racism. If anything, it probably makes it worse.
-
Fair points well made.
For me, this is still a buy, because it has a lot to other with regards to different playstyles. Pyramid Head creates a new type of map pressure. Not gen pressure, but the ability to make survivors move to certain corners. It could backfire (saw a match with Ohmwrecker where the cage sent him just outside the already open exit gates with survivors waiting), but there is a lot of potential. His ranged attack also weakens looping considerable.
On to the perks:
Forced Penances - Not the greatest. May make healing more problematic for a limited time, but really it has limited appeal. Then again, it is his first perk.
Trail of Torment - This could be really strong IF in the right hands, or if survivors are crouching, waiting to launch at the gen when he moves away. Common sense would make me do a different gen, but this perk still has its uses. Could work seemlessly with Insidious in getting him somewhere else and stationary without ever revealing his terror radius.
Death-bound - Again, decent perk which alerts the killer, as well as panics the survivor realising their location is blown and now they're oblivious. Could be quite fun!
And now for dear Cheryl Mason:
Soul Guard - as op put it, this is NOED counter. It has some use, but I can't see this getting much use. However, if it does get used, it could save your life.
Blood-pact: This feels like a slightly weaker version of Aftercare or Empathy. Granted, it has some decent uses, but the fact it has a timeframe, and comparing with Aftercare, Empathy and Bond makes it not the best. But then again, in the right hands this may be ideal.
Repressed Alliance - This is a great tactical perk to really annoy a killer and leave it on edge. It allows a focus on other gens for a limited time to aim for a multi-pop and as a lure to either tie the Killer to it, waste away PGTW or lure them away to make it safe to finish. Wouldn't be useful if people swarm the gen, but a good tactical perk.
The map also looks brilliant and is a unique design to add another style of gameplay, and opens up the idea for more experimental maps in future.
Finally, this is the first chapter in a while which could have a significant impact on The Entity's tale. Why does it allow Pyramid Head to scar its body with its power? What happens now survivors can actually manipulate The Entity to help them? What does this say about this creature's state of consciousness? Has Silent Hill "infected" it?
In summary, I absolutely respect the op's thoughts, and in no way do I see them trying to disuade others. Being a Silent Hill fan myself, I could be seeing this through rose-tinted specs! It's how they feel, and has made a sound argument. I'm sorry it's not a chapter you hoped for, and hope maybe future chapters will certainly be more to your liking.
To me, this chapter offers a lot, as it does to others, and likewise there will be people who won't enjoy this particular entry. Whatever happens, I certainly hope some more fun builds, tactics, maps, lore and enjoyment come about once this becomes live.

I hadn't thought about it until you mentioned it, but the Entity actively assists Pyramid Head during his Moris. Pyramid Head isn't telekinetic or anything, so the Mori involves a fragment of the Entity heaving up from the ground to bind the Survivor before being executed. A Mori is like the Entity's tacit approval to kill. Pyramid Head can kill using Torment, but by using a Mori he's not subverting the Entity's system. It's almost like the Entity is fond of Pyramid Head. The relationship between the two is, perhaps ironically, a lot like the relationship between James and Maria. Fitting too, given what Maria truly was.
Pyramid Head not having anything to feed off of though? Not sure about that. If he truly is James he has become his guilt and is now obsessed with inflicting punishment on others. He would be an endless font of sorrow and rage, which reminds me of the Spirit. If he's not actually James then you might be right: Silent Hill has infected The Entity after a fashion. But Pyramid Head being the torment is interesting, it would imply the Entity feels guilty for being alive. 🤔
It does open up some interesting details about the level of consciousness of The Entity. Why does The Entity specifically feed off emotions? How did this thing come into being? Bizaarly, this chapter - despite being a franchise and not homegrown into the lore - probably shows a lot more about The Entity's existence than was ever disclosed before. Bearing in mind Cheryl's ability to manipulate The Entity to assist her, Silent Hill is a lot stronger than I forst gave thought to!
And good point about how Pyramid could be fed off. I guess my thinking was that, once James Sunderland shed the burden of guilt and accepted his weakness, both Pyramid Heads sacrificed themselves, having no longer a purpose. With that in mind, it has nothing else to symbolise, so if it continued afterwards The Executioner has no need for his guilt and is therefore an empty vessel, in terms of emotions.
HOWEVER, if - like The Entity - it continued to exist because of guilt from anyone,.. well, maybe it either parasitically feeds off The Entity and those within, or has a way of feeding on emotions The Entity can't access, and acts as a symbiote. Either way, I think the only reason Pyramid Head is a Killer here is because it agreed. If it didn't, I am not sure whether The Entity would have been able to take it.

Hard to say what its purpose is. One of the original developers said that nobody has got it quite right and he's not telling. Maybe it's leather designed to keep the pyramid on. Maybe it's not supposed to be anything in particular, but rather something for the player to imagine a horrific explanation. Also, I think you're right in saying that Pyramid Head is tormenting the Entity. I used to word "violent" earlier but it's almost sadomasochistic in nature, which makes the Entity's willingness to tolerate such a being very interesting. Some killers it dominates, other killers seem to dominate it.
As far as the cages are concerned, yes I believe they are a connection to Silent Hill. !SPOILERS!: While Pyramid Head is often associated with cages in various artwork there is one more direct connection to make: Mary. The Cages that Survivors are placed into are almost exactly the same as Mary's cage at the end of the game.
I thought as much about thoae cages! I did wonder with Pyramid Head's Mori why it's a tentacle of barbed wire, and not that cage - sacrifice the survivor as it did Maria.
Eitherway, it says something that Pyramid Head is torturing anything and everything, with no regards for survivor or The Entity!
Wouldn't it be interesting if The Entity gained Pyramid Head, but in effect infected itself with a portion of the magic within Silent Hill. The Executioner has nothing for The Entity to feed on. It just torments. Effectively, whilst everyone else within is sustinance, Pyramid Head is just a virus.
The only other we know who faced The Entity was Evan MacMillan, and unfortunately his humanity made him much easier for The Entity to surpress (although, fair play to Evan, at least he made an effort!)
-
I've always been interested to know what that lump of flesh was actually there for, other than to accentuate the feeling of pain.
It would be interesting to know if (bearing in mind this considers the maps as part of The Entity) Pyramid Head is performing a torment on The Entity. This trenches look like horrid slices on flesh with infection, and takes a long time to heal. Also, in the videos of the PTB I've seen, if someone dies in The Executioner's cages, I cannot recall The Entity grabbing them. Could it be those cages actually be a real connection with Silent Hill? Could an essence of the survivor then be taken to be tormented there? A little like that Black Mirror episode: U.S.S.Callister.
-
Dwight Fairfield
He always comes across to me as someone who developed himself into the leader he always wanted to be, but was put down before due to bullies at work, so these are based upon his desire to be a good leader:
Leader - Reflects his organisational skills and people being inspired and rallied by his presence.
Better Together - Dwight calls people over to him to help with generators, and also shows their respect for him.
Vigil - Dwights leadership skills calms others, and encourages them to focus on the task at hand. Negative status effects go quicker.
No One Left Behind - What kind of leader would leave others? Like a good captain, he'll stay on ship until the last one leaves.
-
I remember a while back I was the final survivor vs Ghost Face, and I was sneaking around a shed and Ghost Face at the same time came the other way. We both surpeised each other and both jumped back, before normality resumed and I eventually died. The Ghost Face said they were probably more surprised than I!
But in general, the scariest (in terms of being surprised) would be the silent Myers, a Hag trap or the first time I faced the Demogorgan.
-
So log as you enjoy the game and play it the way you want to play, then that's the best way.
I do a stupid grind thing where I have to achieve something each round to earn a level up the bloodweb, but it makes me appreciate and enjoy the game more, experimenting with different perks, that I use randomly.
Rank isn't always a great example of skill. I've destroyed some red ranks, whilst also getting destroyed by yellow. Keep it up! You're doing great. 🙂
-
If someone tells you to "Git Gud" after a 3K, they most probably ought to be aiming that at themselves to lessen their salt content.
The Pig can be a good killer, but for all the reasons explained above she's misused. Granted, the pig head and red coat can make her a less stealthy killer than she ought, but she was one of the first (if not the first) killers to get 2 powers plus (headtraps/stealth/lunge attack), all of which can decimate a group of survivors.
As aforementioned, hook the headtraps, then leave them to fend for themselves in removing those as you happily slaughter the others.
-
-
I remember in yonder days of yore the Silent Hill forums, and in particular the comment: "Only a true Silent Hill fan knows...".
Elitism in games feels to me individual to the person declaring the elitism. Someone could be yellow rank, but has played since day one and amassed thousands of ours, and is only yellow as they play very casually. Others consider their skill defined by red rank, but always have to be carried by their better SWF team. But to bring it up to make a point to demean others says more about how uncertain that person is about their skill, or how blinkered their view is.
Rank, playstyle, knowledge or time played all has relevance, and it is good to hear from those! But to people who use it more to deflate others, they really serve no purpose other than to inflate their own ego and block out their own insecurities.
In the end, it's a game. Enjoy it.
-
A creepypasta chapter would be very welcome.
Personally, having a character like The Rake or The Smiling Man would be great!
The terrific thing about expanding the media for chapters is the plethora of opportunities available! There are Creepypastas, books, artwork, urban legends, SCPs, mythology..the opportunities are limited only by the imagination .... and permission from the creator, of course!
-
Chapter: Trapdoor
Map: The Castle
Killer: The Big Red Thing
Survivor: Berk
Berk
The Big Red Thing
-
The long, slow crouch walk from the generator furthest from me to my hook, giving me time to ponder all my life choices and guess whether I'll be 1 hooked or not.
Eventually, when they're between 10 - 20 metres from me, and by now my guy is screaming as much as I am, they charge full pelt to my rescue...
... forgetting we're facing The Hag.
-
Pyramid is anti DS/BT IF you are caught in the very obvious trenches. Crouch walk over, and you're safe, as with The Hag. Survivors will be caught sometimes if Pyramid can steer you into a chase through them, or just not seeing them, so it's counterable and not necessary perk disabling.
If Pyramid could send people to those cages without this power, I would agree it cancels them. But he needs the power and they're counterable.
-
I got into this game thanks to Hybridpanda. It's terrible what he has been/ is still going through, so it's absolutely understandible he doesn't do videos. Still miss his videos though.
-
I do admire your positivity with the good will of all. And there would definitely be some who would embrace it.
Unfortunately, there are already numerous instances of toxic chat, and expanding it would make it worse, especially typing with the controllers vs keyboards post-game.
If it was to be implimented it would have to be an option anyone could disable. But I do like the positivity here!
-
A good thing about this game is that whether a Chapter appeals to you or not, even if you do not buy it you'll get a free extra map to add to the already varied collection. That's a nice thing to try out.
-
Monstrous Shrine: Applies to all hooks, with an extra 1/1/2% speed for basement hooks. Failed escape attempts remain as is.
Hex: Thrill of the Hunt: Applies skill checks to all Totems, with reduced skill check success zone for the cursed totem.
Hex: Ruin (yes, I know it's not bad, but still): The regression not only applies to generators, but also to chest and gate progression. May as well hit everything with it!
-
If they wanted to add some more experimental maps, they could try the following:
Silent Hill: Nowhere
Silent Hill 2: Lake View Hotel
Silent Hill 3: Lakeside Amusement Park
Silent Hill: The Room: The Water Prison
Silent Hill: Origins: Riverside Motel
Silent Hill Homecoming: Church Of The Holy Way
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories: Labyrinth
Silent Hill Downpour: Devil's Pit
-
Freddy doesn't feel boring to me, but there's something oddly underwhelming about his presence. Compared to, well, any other killer, he just doesn't stand out. Whether his character model is too thinned out, or maybe the fact he can vanish from view, he just doesn't feel much more than an atmosphere.
-
All Killers should have their own customised Ricardo Milos thong-and-bandana cosmetic.
-
To be honest, BHVR are playing some sneaky curve balls now in regards to Killer advertising (which I love!). So I really don't know! However, after such a Killer as Pyramid Head, alongside a survivor with unique perks, for me to top that would be an Alien Chapter. It would be amazing to see Ellen Ripley, but if that doesn't work Amanda Ripley from the game would be just as welcome to me.
-
Adrenaline as an endgame perk, after unhooking, can make all the difference. Unless there's NOED, in which case you're buggered.
