I never said the system we have now is perfect, or even good, but the answer isn't to obfuscate things further. Hell, if it were up to me you'd be able to see who's in a team and you'd get an "hours played" counter next to people's names. Playing killer is miserable enough as it is, you should at the very least have some tools to figure out if you want to stick through a game or leave.
There's a reason why you have the ability to leave matches before they start. If you think lobby shopping is really a problem, then what you should advocate for is for people to get the leaver penalty if they drop out of a game in the lobby.
Thanks for commenting on this post because it perfectly depicts why we definitely need an option to hide prestige for a better community.

Why does there have to be a big debate? Why do the devs need to spend time discussing wheter it should be visible or hidden?
Just make it OPTIONAL, like the OP asked for. Then those who want it have it, and those who want to hide it can turn it off.
Yeah I don't really understand opposing to this idea of it being optional. If you really want to show off your prestige you still can.

Cool. Your point?
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3461226#Comment_3461226
Survivors used to be able to do that. There was a file they could open up in the lobby to see which killer they were playing against so they could dodge the lobby. I didn't care about getting dodged then and I don't care now.
That's literally cheating though... LOL. Not sure how it relates to prestige.

My friend you dont want to even know how many P3-9 survs you play against have another char on P100, or even multiple. Your explained behaviour is the exact reason most people dont pick their p100, so even with prestige shown, you have literally no idea who you're up against. With prestige hidden at least people can go back to playing their favorite character instead of hiding behind a low prestige to not make killers sht their pants in the pre game lobby.
Yeah because while I try to understand their point: they're still making an ASSUMPTION based on someone's Prestige which is the cause of toxicity anyways...

My point? This is the reason why prestige should be hidden until the end game screen.
Some survivors leave because of low prestige and killers leave if they see high prestige (as a Jeff Main with P100: can confirm). The players that come in after that are very often not the ideal match to the remaining players' MMR resulting in unfair matches which was said by the Devs when one could see the other people's ranks.
Lobby shopping has to be as minimal as possible for good quality matches. And therefore prestige should just be visible after the match.
Yes! It also affects survivors judging eachother based on their Prestige level and leave lobbies wasting everyone's time.
-
@UndeddJester said:
Probably no harm really to hide your rank in the pre game lobby. That would stop the tunneling/lobby DCs.
Post game I'd keep the ranks visible, it's a beneficial tool for potentially making friends with people who have notice you play well and have put in the time. It's also valuable for measuring your progress as a killer (I'm like 1 and 1/2 months in and have gone against a few people with higher ranks in 1 char, than I have across my whole roster combined xD).
Regards to the verbal abuse, it also sucks, though one piece of advice vs. any bully, is remove their source of power over you, however that works for you.
Some people just say "yep" or "ok" to everything. Others treat them like children and baby talk them or pretend they can't hear them. If you're like me you have fun, and be twice as insulting back to them without saying any bannable words. In your case, say something like "sorry peasant, I only talk to 75 prestige minimum, go eat mud somewhere else".
The point is to never let them see you sweat. If you ensure they can't see them getting under your skin, they can't beat you ;)
Or it can just be optional and players who still want to show their Prestige level can do so freely. Nothing friendly happens at post-game let me tell you that LOL.

I upvoted this yesterday and a few of the commenting posts as I agreed whole-heartedly with this. I've returned to this as it happened to me last night. Now, my higher leveled survivor isn't a p100 but I'm still above p50 so its still a little higher.
Went against a Wraith on RPD, great loops between me and him - he had a hard time catching me so he whittled away at the less abled loopers until I was simply left on hook to die by the fearful Nancy who Urban Evaded for the last 3 hooks of her team-mates.
I offered a GGWP in endgame chat and Wraith opted to do his best to get under my skin:
"be better Carlos"
"lvl ** noob xd"
"lvl ** u a joke"
I turned to a slightly different page in my book and offered a few of my owns words back. Apologized for embarrassing him around loops that made him feel the need to throw darts at me for my favorite character being higher level than his dainty Bingbong.
tl:dr Yes, I'd like to hide prestige too - but namely for those who dislike ridiculousness like that.
I hate that so much. As if you were suppose to be invincible or a God for your Prestige level... and that goes for both sides: survivor and killer.
@uganda_calm said:
First of, i dont play survivor and i also dont do this, so i am not sure about it.
But i could imagine that a high prestige level also makes you a bigger target for tunneling or face-camping, as it is at least proof of a high playtime and a prestige 100 just looks like a threat to a killer, no matter the rank.
I also heard about tunneling, camping high-prestige players but since I don't have any proof of that it would be an assumption unless the killer communicated that to me. So I just collect screenshots of me getting harassed LOL.

Well hey, as long as you guys are taking feedback, I just want to say, as a killer, I like being able to guess how miserable a game is going to be for me. Prestige isn't a perfect indicator of skill, but if I see multiple high level survivors, then I can reasonably know that I'm in for a terrible time and I should either dodge, or just prepare for the worst. That's important info that I'd really rather not lose.
I understand you but imagine if I was able to see your killer's prestige and dodged whenever I saw you causing you to wait longer in lobbies...

Honestly I don't understand why they wanted to make it public in the first place, literally just feels like they didn't want to change the layout so they added prestige emblems to fill the void left by ranks...
Showing prestige doesn't bring anything to the game besides relentless dodging, in-game harrasment and skewed feedback about MMR / SBMM based solely on a shiny number.
I hope they finally decide to get rid of it soon, but if they don't P100 characters will become common soon enough that you won't be mocked for it anymore (hopefully)

When you wear Thalita's "Kiteboard Jump" top with her normal jean shorts, her torso looks like it's floating above her hips, almost like the torso is not correctly animated in sync with her hip movement. Her torso also clips into her shorts.
https://i.imgur.com/qjrnKqt.png
In addition to that, I thought I'd also report Kate's ruined shorts too. Kate had the exact problem Thalita had with floating textures about 10 months ago? She got fixed, but in doing so her shorts were ruined and stretched upwards:
https://i.imgur.com/PzrrmIl.png
As you can see when she was "fixed" the front middle area of the shorts were artificially stretched up to be much higher rise than her old shorts, almost coming to an ugly "point" in the center. It looks like the artists did a rushed fix on her and now the shorts make her midriff look silly and too short. What used to be her lowest rise leggings in the game and my personal favourite for her croptops, is now the highest. The texture looks really ugly and forced and has ruined my favourite character/outfit in the game.
I know Thalita will be naturally fixed in time, (please don't do the same damage to Thalita's shorts) but I really hope Kate's shorts can get noticed and reverted back to her old style, because I feel like it'll never be fixed now unless pointed out.
Sorry for the bad graphics in the screenshots, I play with Antialiasing turned off and one pic I found on youtube.
Female here by the way, I just think croptops on girls look super cute.
Yeah. It doesn't feel nice when you pay real money on a cosmetic and it looks like that...🙄

Did anyone else realize that his teeth are completely black too? Like they never fixed that and I kinda feel sad for spending money on it.

How would I be able to inform another survivor freely about my build or item I'm bringing without exposing it to the killer? Also potentially knowing which killer I'll be going against every time would suck the fun out of the game.

Almost every single killer is exploiting this bug right now and you don't even bother at least kill switch Sloppy Butcher which is the easiest way to apply Mangled. This is bizarre.

It's mangled itself that is bugged, they would have to killswitch half the stuff in the game. They'll just tell to tough it out until next bug fix (or the one after that) and that they're "monitoring" the situation.
Yeah. I'm also certain they won't bother trying to disable Mangled. It'll just be a "deal with it for a couple of weeks" thing.
That's why I suggested for them to at least disable Sloppy.

You can basically copy & paste this text onto almost every meta Surv Perk or Red Addon.

Like how often do those perks/items carry the most average survivors through matches they shouldnt have won?
You cannot glue yourself to that one strong perk that killers have until it gets butchered (like corruption/ruin/noed/etc) while merely every surv meta perk is carrying their mistakes.
Devs have to lift soloQ communication until it is en par with swf.
Otherwise there will never be balance in this game.
Right now the game is so disgustingly surv sided and SWF is utterly broken. And still, survs get upset about one perk they cannot counter by just brain afking...

So you think perks like solidarity are solid balanced perks that don't get outperformed by other actually useful perks at our disposal?
Okay...
Also that wasn't what I demonstrated to you at all. I was pointing out the unbalance among the perks in the game may it be too powerful or outright useless...
-
We can also talk about the unbalance between perks.
Like which one do I rather bring?
-
I personally don't think there's a general unbalance like "Survivors/Killers are OP!" though I do think there are some unbalanced situations where your hands are tied. Some perks are also debatable.
Like what do I do here? LMAO. Do I have an option to do anything?
Also why can't other killers just do this and get away with it? That's also an aspect to look at unbalance. The unbalance among the killers.
Like... Okay... Traps.
Then we have this LOL. She doesn't need to collect and setup sh*t just blink and kill all survivors.

But calling BHVR Scummy or accusing them of lying when so many other companies do the exact same thing some DONT EVEN BRING THEM BACK. Mandy and the game post says they will be back next year.
Mandy gave the best information they she has a this current time.
I'm assuming you copy-pasted something to me as an answer cause the "calling BHVR scummy or accusing them of lying" part doesn't make sense as a reply to mine LOL. Not my preferred language.
Other games doing it doesn't mean DbD is obliged to do it nor does it mean the community won't have a right to react since this hasn't been done since 2016 nor does it mean we have to wait until our favorite game becomes "scummier" than other games to have the right to react?

I'm so disappointed. My favorite part of the game is being ruined.

This really ruined my mood no joke LOL. Because I liked supporting Behavior and now I feel like a cow.

When I play soloQ, I decided to move asap to the next game, every time the ERUPTION perk is brought by the killer; nothing will change my mind!
This stupid and utterly unhealthy perk needs to be reworked, asap, period!

Run a healer build and play like a MMO Healer
Play immersed Blendette
There are tons of perks and wierd combos you can try that change how you play each match.
My builds are usually random perks that give me information or fun perks. But I have to admit trying to use more niche perks feels horrible when the opponent brings top tier competitive perks and the game ends before I even got to do anything with my fun perks...

Yeah but the fact is if we make it so teams with really bad survivors even if it's just 1 can win often anytime you get 4 survivors that can play itll always be a win.
Sad fact is DBD for alot of killers relies on ineffiecnt survivors for gen speed and loops. And while its annoying as hell getting people that dont do gens or give up you can never expect to win those games (as you shouldn't because that's not fair if you can win often with those)
Like I said about the example of versing the same killer, one team his 4x slowdowns did nothing while the other game (because of very bad survivors) we couldn't get past 4 gens left.
Imo a better SBMM and a better system for people that DC/give up would solve this. I escape far more than I lose and my "team" win far more even if i die yet i can remember my losses more as its usually due to someone giving up or people not doing gens.
It sucks I cant say "that killer won because they played really well" often, usually they win because of the above issues and that's what stresses me out in solo Q. Like how can I do the longer chases and still most gens, makes no sense lol
Yes I definitely understand that also, you're right.

@EntitySpawn said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/356829/give-me-a-reason-to-play-survivor
Killer perks aren't the issue and this is something people need to understand, All killer perks have counters, requirements, setups or drawbacks to them.
And while as a solo Q main survivor main myself I get seeing more perks and killers will always give a more fun experience the fact is alot of killers are weak or need the perks when facing a higher caliber not to mention most people just want decent length games (as survivor I also want longer games, though I feel we should push for hooks not kills)
Now I'm the opposite of you, I'm someone youd called sweaty, tryhard, competitive etc. Even though I just play the game and try to win (still have fun) I'd get those labels (not that i care, never been insults). But if I get other people like me on my team it's an easy W verse most killers and players and the games are over way too fast and it's a huge reason I do solo Q over swf.
But you're highlighting the issue yourself, YOUR TEAM ARE GIVING UP and the usual YOUR TEAM ARENT DOING GENS or cant last long enough in a chase.
^these are player issues and SBMM issues, you shouldn't win games when that's happening and I can only assume those players that do do gens/chases are rated the same because you escape the same (bad sbmm) or backfill which is dumb.
I always refer to the one experience I had, same killer with the same build on the same map. One team we destroyed the killer with them getting 2 hooks, the other game he got a 4k and 4gens. One team just refused to do gens while the other could actually play and did gens.
Long post but basically it's on the survivors and matchmaking. It does suck, I'm fed up with DCs too
Valid point. However I can't deny the fact that some perks shift how the games play out. Especially can't ignore the difference of a perk's impact on solo vs. SWF. While some perks may demolish a random group of survivors, it might not cause such trouble for a coordinated SWF.
-
Thank you guys for sharing your own opinions or being able to at least understand the "other side".

@rha said:
Can't really give you any good reasons other than that it's comforting to know that I'm not the only suffering while everyone else has so much fun and escapes 80%+ of their matches because survivors are so OP.
I have no idea how they manage to come up with these matches, the steamrolling killer with massive slowdowns and pressure wiping the survivors off the map before two gens are done is just the majority of the games, the rest is experienced survivors outclassing a killer who has no clue what he is doing and is lucky to get a single hook all game. Which isn't exactly fun either though I think this must exist to make up for the other games. Sometimes I wonder why they don't fix matchmaking by taking two random lobbies that the matchmaker came up with and swapping out survivors and killer.
Some say there are not enough players for good matchmaking, but I've been playing since 2017 and it never did feel that solo queue was as hopeless and frustrating as it does today. This doesn't mean that there were no bad matches, but not frustratingly long streaks of extremely one-sided games, and for every bad game there were enough good games to not really be bothered by the bad ones. And I doubt the game has lost so many players that matches all of a sudden need to be worse.
Couldn't have agreed more. Thank you for your comment.

"try to make it as far as possible"
Yes but ik the end they will end up against a team with a more tryhard mentality and lose. Like it's supposed to be with a working matchmaking. Even Aram has tryhards and people that treat that game mode seriously.
DBD does not have a working matchmaking and only had it (maybe) for a few weeks/months until it became clear that the top is way to sparsely populated to make it feasible without hour-long queue times.
The result of countermeasures is now that practically everyone plays with everyone at random. And over time the "serious for the win" players aka "tryhards" with gen speed up, sabo coop, gen slowdown, slugging or whatever most effective built will drive the casuals away like you when you start to make rant posts until you one day maybe quit, others already have, me included as casual killer.
And then you inevitably end up with only ranked mode.
To focus back onto my point, the matchmaking is the problem and is back to being close to completely random. So your problem with gen slowdown perk killers shouldn't even exist when the system would put them with opponents of similar mentality and loadouts.
But both sides either prepare for the worst and are oppressive against other casuals or get steamrolled if they don't and meet tryhard.
I like your point of view and I totally get it.

Well that sounds, like most of the time, like a matchmaking problem when "casuals" are getting matched with "tryhards".
And if the scenario is that on side doesn't have anymore casuals left, thanks to everbody going tryhard to prepare for eventual tryhard opponents.
And if that's the case, that's the point when the rest of the community has to accept that the casual part of the game is dead.
For example league of legends, you can't really play goofy casual and expect to win. Going for a ADC and make a tank built will inevitably result in your loss.
Same in DBD today, either you die a casual or become a tryhard too.
Yeah... I can definitely see your point. It hurts when we have all this potentially fun perks in the game...

I was really excited for the 6.1.0 switch but with the stronger perks in-play it made the difficult solo experience even more difficult.
