The difference is that the killer is playing on his own, whereas when a survivor abandons the game, they're basically leaving their other 3 teammates in a much worse situation than if they were to be contributing to the match. These two just don't compare at all.
A Killer tunneling one person out at 5 gens forces the trial to be mismatched and is nearly impossible to compete in unless the Killer adapts their playstyle. These days if a Survivor DCs at 5 gens, the remaining Survivors are given a bot that will still take chase, unhook, heal, complete gens, and open the gates.
When it comes down to it, it's an unfair moral argument. Killer is given the most autonomy over the trial and is allowed to rage quit for a laundry list of reasons, while Survivor is not.

Yeah Dcing because you hear the Terror Radius of a Killer you don´t like is not entitled at all.
Conversely, tunneling a player because you don't like an aspect of them (their name, their charms, their character, their perks, their item) is generally accepted and not treated the same at all. Make it make sense.

Like I said a flashlight squad isn't a bad thing, sabo squads who run no mither are more painful in that regard lol. But again franklin's weave lol. But my main point is in general I'm seeing people give up earlier and more often regardless of the killer being faced and I'm just worried about the data that, that's giving bhvr ya know.
I don't actually think BHVR is that concerned about the data anymore. Knowing how much ground abandons cover and that they disregard trial data same as a DC (while DCs are also a thing), whatever they're getting is not a clear picture. I have to assume that as long as what they see is 60/40 or close enough, it's what they're going with.

You can get put in dbd forum jail for saying that you want to go next. But a killer can come in here and brag about doing what makes people want to gg next. Nothing happens. What a weird way to run a community. NOW DEVS, I am not saying that I will or anything. Just saying that, this killer behavior leads to it, but you allow it.
It's always been a double standard. Before abandons, you'd think a Survivor DCing for any reason was considered a capitol offense.
-
Slugging for hatch has to go. As far as I see it, hatch was implemented as an anti-bottleneck feature. They realized early on how much the trial changes once the ratio of living Survivors to unpowered generators shifts too far, so the hatch forgoes typical gameplay mechanics and moves the trial forward. For whatever reason, that was grossly misinterpreted to mean that the hatch is only for escapes and now it serves little to no purpose aside from an easily thwarted consolation prize (especially now that more trials end in abandons than hatch escapes). Getting to the point, I think bleeding out is actually less preferable to abandoning. Not only does it eat up more time, which is unfair, it also rewards the Killer by giving an audience. I think for this, hatch needs to be reworked instead.
Being able to pick yourself up from excessive slugging is also a good idea, though I don't love the amount of time it takes in this hypothetical. Having enough time to slug someone, start another chase and down that Survivor, then come back and hook the initial Survivor doesn't really do a lot for gameplay. Even if the Survivor does pick themselves back up, there's no defense for being downed yet again. So in that scenario, abandoning is also more attractive. If the numbers are adjusted and there is some buffer to prevent being downed again like when you're unhooked, I think this could work.
-
Everything needs to be boosted. They did make scoring events better, but now we're back to pitiful gains now that the gameplay has caught up. The changes they made to the Rift still needs to be addressed. It's not very well hidden how predatory it is—20 trials per level? I'd like to see any developer sit through that and claim it's perfectly fine.

The big problem I see is the following:
In DbD both sides are entilted and think they are the punching bag for the other side.
But I have to adress that Survivors aren´t happy no matter what you do. Pllease stay with me I will give some examples and I beg you to be honest with yourself.
Rate of disconnects are rocket high at the Survivor side and gets support by many DbD players (Why should you stay in a game if you don´t have fun?) Don´t like the Killer? DC! Don´t like the map? DC! You know what I mean as many players even in this forum suggested. "Don´t like Ghoul? Just DC and show BHVR that you don´t want to play.
Ofcourse there are Killers which DC over the smallest things themself. Bad Map, Bully Squads etc. but if you are beeing honest you will see that a Killer which dcs has most of the time a reason to do so (I don´t agree with these but you will understand) Hey another denied hit by autoaim, Hey another Larrys as Billy, Hey another flashlight save out of an impossible angle and so on.
Another point is how players react to a gamestyle the other side uses. While yes Bullysquads are hated by Killers the most common suggestions in this forum is to always bring Lightborn or if you play against Sabo Squads Slug the hell out of them. These are legit conversations how to tackle the problem you are facing. Survivors Gen Rush? Use slow down and so on.
Survivors on the other hand react to such topics in another way. Many Survivors think that BHVR should make playsstyles they don´t like unusable and get mad at BHVR if they don´t do it right after the suggestion came in. From time to time I try to reason with some players in this forum that "If slugging is in 10 of 10 games why won´t you take anti slug perks?" and always the answer tend to be something like "I don´t want to use a perk for BHVRs bad game desing".
While both sides are horrendous from time to time, most of the time I roll my eyes when I see Survivors in game or in the forum.
This strips down the points of contention far too much, however. Survivors lack a great deal of autonomy over the game. More often than not, it's simply unfair for them. I don't think it's very entitled for them to give up when the trial becomes one-sided so early on. Make those trials a trend and giving up becomes a trend.

I don’t know where this comes from that the balance is at all favored at killers.
Slowdown perks are the weakest they’ve been in years.
Many top tiers are getting/have been nerfed Ex. Blight (next patch), krasue, ghoul, spirit, nurse (she’s her on a technicality going from SSS to S doesn’t mean much in the grand scheme)
with a couple exceptions of killers either getting side grades or left to simmer a bit Ex. Drac (his power getting shifted between his 3 forms multiple times a year) vecna 2 (I’m kinda surprised he hasn’t been nerfed yet honestly)skull merchant was killed off for over a year at the demand of survivors (some think she should get deleted and axed from the game entirely). Houndmaster is still bugged as hell and still nothing on knotted rope, twins is twins, they tried to gut knight and alien. Chucky lost scamper(only for bhvr to make then nerf krasue and ghoul seriously bhvr what did you think would happen) and now is only viable on pc where 180 flicks are doable
and then we switch roles, healing speeds have only gotten faster with more healing options than ever (soon to be dialed back with diminishing returns). Anti-tunnel is as strong as ever with new babysitter and basekit bt being buffed. Anti slug is better than ever (barring old ftp/buckle up) with conviction/wglf/plot twist/unbreakable. Gen speeds are outta control with hyper focus/stake out, fast track, BnP’s. Exhaustion perks are as free as ever with buffed vigil, chases are easier with more pallets and power crept window being added. And on and on and on.
anything the killer role has gotten to be strong has either been mutually beneficial for everyone or are exceptions not the rule. I mean we’ve proven god can bleed with the blight nerfs, so now anything is on the table for killers in the nerf department. And you know what I’ll even side with survivors here, if nerfing blight/nurse/ghoul into the ground gets us balanced and strong perks, and buffs to B- below killers, I’ll take it as this point.
It's undeniable. Nerfs/buffs are always inconsistent and unreliable with how often they propose things, cancel them, scale them back, do something for a few months, and then delete it forever. But the Killer slant is undeniable. Camping/tunneling/slugging is easily in the top 3 biggest issues with the game. At their core, they are catchup mechanics that work all trial. They are a major concern when it comes to player autonomy and they quickly bottleneck the trial. Nothing truly effective has been done to counter that. At best we get timers that only offset how quickly they happen, a forfeit mechanic, and perks with a ton of conditions that only do so much (and aren't base kit like camping/tunneling/slugging). Additionally, we have the kill rates. The game is, by design, balanced so that Killers win the majority of the their trials. Granted that number is an average, but it means that the majority of Killers are likely winning 40-70% of their trials. For Survivor, that number is lower. The majority are winning 30-50% of the time. That's objectively in favor of Killer and is effective every trial. Finally, we have supplemental factors of that balance. The majority of new Killers, especially if they're licensed, go through a period of time where they're incredibly powerful and dominate trials with ease. Survivor perks generally have a lot of outrage, but don't perform even remotely the same. New maps are typically full of terrible loops that require pre-dropping to have any effect, having an obviously negative impact on chases. Entire metas like stealth, and for a long time healing, have shifted in favor of Killer.
That's not to say that Killers are at fault—regardless of how loud someone is, it's up to BHVR to make the healthiest choices for the game. Not just in terms of game balance, but overall enjoyment. In my opinion, the most consistent thing about the game has been their inability to do either.

I think it’s the issue of age as well.
not only is dbd is complex it’s old, and the content isn’t slowing down, so the barrier to entry is just going to keep getting higher and higher.A bit of a personal anecdote but I got into league a couple years ago and it wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought with how old the game was and the amount of characters and items but with the help of a couple of friends a couple of YouTube videos, and just reading the in-game information I felt ok and not too too overwhelmed.
dbd even with those first two things is still missing crucial onboarding and a severe information deficit when it comes to killer powers and perks. Even if dbd had the specific killer information, with descriptions and videos all on one page, i dont think it’d be enough, the game is such a trial by fire kinda thing where experience rules.
I seriously don’t envy anyone new getting into the game at this point in time, but i say start now because it’s only gonna get harder. I mean how should we expect new players to learn the game overnight when even some 10 year veterans don’t even know or wanna know what certain things do/mean.
DBD is also unlike most PVP games as well where despite being balanced toward competition, it hinges completely on luck. No matter how much experience you have, you will always be at the mercy of things like matchmaking, powers/perks, and unchecked catchup mechanics. People get burned out, rightfully so.

I thought it was just me who was noticing this trend. Glad to know im not just going crazy. Obviously there's always been a community divide between the two roles with Youtube content creators being split into two tribes that cater to each one, but I feel like in the last year since i've come back to the game it's gotten way worse.
Like the average Survivor main content you see is stuff like "Hey guys! Watch me loop the killer for 5 gens while using this quirky new perk build I created. Haha!" With bright filters and Nintendo music playing in the background.
But then you have the average Killer main content which all feels like just a variation of "TOXIC SWF BULLY SQUAD EPIC FAIL WITH SALTY ENDGAME CHAT" and 80% of the comments are people going off about how they hate survivor players and they want to genocide all survivor mains (I'm being slightly hyperbolic, but you get the point)
its just all so very tiresome.
Definitely. I don't actually think it is an over-exaggeration though. The hate gets very extreme and very bizarre, to the point where I've seen people threaten their own safety or the safety of others. There's tilt, but this feels a little more unwell. It's why I say that profiting off of that feels really gross.
@Slurp_Ramen said:
if you watch most of these videos all it is people who fed up with the current state of the game and voicing their collective frustration (at survivors) and trying to educate them on how to get better so they can stop blaming ‘toxic killers’ for their problems.
if you don’t see the issues you’re either in a 3-4 man swf, a killer player, or a new player who doesn’t know bad plays when they seem them. Please I encourage any doubters, go play solo-duo queue and watch how many game you lose because your teammate survivors heal under hook, farm hooks, loop in disadvantages areas, die too fast due to lack of knowledge, or dc/go next immediately. These people are the reason half the killer roster have such bad reps, because instead of learning they b***h and moan or dc until mommy and daddy bhvr fix the ‘problem’.
I don’t see a problem with ‘survivor bashing’ content, maybe it’ll get some of the worst offenders to educate themselves but what do I know, they probably saw the thumbnail left an angry ‘killer mains bad’ comment then went back to throwing games and complaining on twitter. This really belies the even greater issue. DBD is not well designed nor well balanced if you have to take a crash course in how to play by watching streamers with abrasive content just to hopefully stand a chance (realistically, it sounds more like they're ranting and saying what should happen rather than trying to educate but that's just my opinion). It's undeniable that the game is frustrating, unfair, and relies way too strongly on elements completely out of one's control while also going to great lengths to punish players for making any mistakes or having a bad time.
BHVR absolutely should try to address pain points if they notice that people keep underperforming and not having fun. I don't see how that's unreasonable as you seem to suggest.
-
When you balance the game entirely in favor of one role, it's no surprise when the other role finds more and more reasons to quit. I say it constantly yet it always bears repeating—despite years of making Killer more and more accessible and footing the bill to Survivor, to the point where Killer has less macro responsibility without a lack of power, Killer players are still unhappy with the state of the game. Maybe if we scale A LOT of these unhealthy changes back, we might see less Survivors giving up. But we all know that isn't going to happen, so at the very least we should at least acknowledge what's really going on instead of getting tangled up in our egos (which also isn't going to happen 😵).

I don't feel that's necessarily a bad thing...going against killers you can just hold w and auto win basically are no fun or challenge to verse sometimes.
holding w against a Dracula for example, he can try and counter that with bat form, which initiates some Spirit counterplay from my end. That's engagement from both sides which is something, compared to say Trickster, Clown or Henry where you immediately mirror the killers movements the second you see the visual terror radius.
It all has a purpose. It's just that if you never feel like you're "getting one up" on the opposing player in either role, it stops being fun. It's one of the reasons DBD felt better in the past. Each Killer changed how the trial played out in a unique way versus these days where they all do a bit of everything and don't have much variety when you get down to brass tacks.

There is always cheaters, that doesn't mean the balance of the game should be affected because of it. That's literally saying they should make balance changes assuming most people will use cheats. You know how stupid that sounds? People who cheat don't care about the game's balance.
They only way anything regarding cheaters should be accounted for is how they can better their anti-cheat so that the legit players don't have their games ruined by them to begin with.We also have to ask ourselves what is more likely—that BHVR add a bunch of numbers buffs/nerfs or implement an entirely new anti-cheat and devote more resources to processing reports?

For real. It goes for anything and everything too, so it makes sense that our dumb little game is prime real estate for it as well. 😝

He has a bloated kit like the majority of Killers within the last few years. You don't see him often anymore and he's been changed a bit since release, but it's naturally not very fun going against a Killer that feels like they have a counter for everything.

That's an interesting role reversal theory. Flip the lore by making the survivors the villains and the killers justified because the players "deserve it."
100%. It's a mirror to their own reality. You see a lot of very strange and vitriolic hatred toward Survivor, beyond it being just a game. And now it dominates the DBD market. One would realistically only continue to expose themselves to that if they got something out of it. I'm thinking it's akin to a digital voodoo doll. And I'm going to be totally candid here—it's actually really nasty that BHVR encourages that and profits off of it. Maybe I'm completely wrong with their intentions, but that's my genuine belief.

What do you mean 'gameplay experiences' shouldn't account for balance discussions? That's the whole point of a balance discussion. Cheating should NEVER be considered as a balance discussion because its literally against TOS, blame BHVR and hold them accountable for letting cheaters plague the game for so long instead.
The issue is that it will never be enough. Cheating will always be there. So might as well start accounting for it. It's similar to DCs. They really thought they could get rid of them and now we have a system that is functionally identical but it's no longer against the rules to talk about or advocate for.
-
As @Aven_Fallen said, it's engagement bait primarily. But it's also the natural course the game has taken. Killer is the weakest role, despite all of the evidence screaming the opposite, and the real problem is bully Survivors. You get to be in control and take down all the meanies. It's a great ego trap.
-
This might be going a bit too deep but BHVR has this façade where they want to be very polite and kind and inclusive, but under the surface they're totally different. A great example is when we raise very genuine concerns we have with the game and we're given the typical "Aw sorry hunny, we're looking into it!" response. The chat filter is more of the same. It's to "keep the peace" in a way, but in my opinion it's really just more about avoiding bad press and avoiding moderation.
-
Not only is it ugly, it feels less functional overall. I'm guessing they want it to match their main BHVR theme once you leave the DBD forums. Ironically the color scheme is giving circus clown. 😰
-
Being able to snipe through floors and Mori right off hook was pretty insane. But overall he's not too bad in my opinion. I haven't seen much of him at all in a while which leads me to believe he's not super powerful anymore. 😅

Nah, not every Billy plays like that. Granted, BIlly-players become overall more unlikeable since he got buffed, simply because before only people who did not care about winning and more about nice curves played him, so they were mostly very nice. But once he got buffed, the unpleasant people started to play him, but it is wrong to say that all Billys are like that.
Always hate this. It happened as early as Wraith's rework too. Suddenly the fun bing bong man went away and everything was a race to the finish.

Then they should exit the gate and get their hit. I should be able to have a bot take my place for that… But it's not about the exit gate for some people is it? They want the feeling when they narrowly get a pallet stun avoiding a hit, when they know the killer is frustrated. That is the definition of toxic.
BHVR told us many moons ago that Killer bots were coming to the game and that 2v8 was being used to train that data. Until they say otherwise (and they won't, judging by their track record), it's either been scrapped or shelved indefinitely. If they got on that, they might not be so hesitant to add more Abandon scenarios for Killer.

Exactly this. I don't really see people having an incredible amount of patience and they're still very susceptible to mob mentality. If one Survivor escapes, they're more likely to follow suit. Not to say what OP experienced doesn't happen because it does, but I do think it's rare. And it's mostly just someone on an ego trip.
-
It's an incredibly tilty game. You either play in a way that is satisfying to you, which it sounds like is fair play where you give others a chance to engage with the game, or you let criticism get to you and you start overthinking things. There are ways to prevent players from communicating with you at all, and if it's bad enough then you should utilize those tools.

Why isn't Nurse getting a rework despite being overpowered slop for years? Why isn't Blight getting nerfed in more meaningful ways, like nerfing Blighted Rat and Crow that are spammed together? Why do they focus on Fast Track due to whining, when Hyperfocus, Dead Hard, Nurse, and The First can heavily cheat with automation and wall hacks? Why is cheating never dealt with, and subtle cheating so commonplace?
The developers of this game simply don't care about real issues within the game and listen heavily to the killer main streamers who put out terrible ragebait videos.Literally. The entire game is stressful and does need help, obviously, but Killer is a totally different ball park than Survivor. One only has to play a few trials of each to see that. So much of Killer play these days is accounted for to the point that you can get to an average skill level and dominate the majority of your trials. Survivor however is much more punishing and requires an insane amount of luck and coordination.
And now we're seeing the natural conclusion of that—more Survivors grouping together to stand a greater chance against Killers that are by no means exceptional, leading to even more calls to optimize skill out of the latter role while continuing to punish the former for not being on 100 at all times.
I hate to sound like a jerk, but I really don't care how Trapper or Ghostface are performing when there are so many bigger fish to fry. But realistically, I know BHVR after several years of playing their game now and I know that none of the issues that need to be fixed will be fixed. They've been on a lightning fast trajectory toward Maintenance Mode for the last 6 years and I feel like everyone sees it except for them.
-
For me, it's circumstantial. If someone keeps unhooking me and not healing me but they expect me to heal them, I don't heal them anymore. Or if someone keeps blowing multiple skill checks on my gens, I won't do gens with them anymore. Anything negative has to be done so often that it reads as deliberate, otherwise I cut them a lot of slack. The game is stacked against us to begin with and Lord knows how inconsistent matchmaking is; it's not worth starting a clique on top of that.
-
Honestly reports are like a stress relief ball. They might feel good in the moment, but they serve no real purpose. If someone breaks a rule often enough that a few streamers catch it, then you'll get a little notice in a few months about it, long after you've forgotten what it even was that you reported in the first place.
-
I only played Survivor and it was in the top 10 of the worst events I've ever played. So I didn't get very far. But the Rift Fragments did help.

I can appreciate why it reads that way, but I also have a duty to manage expectations as things are worked on. I don't want to deliver hope and then take it back a month from now. Timelines can shift, and right now there isn't any specifics to share.
I don't see how that refutes my point at all. If things are said and then never addressed again, and when asked about it we're told there aren't "any specifics", then is it not literally that it won't happen until it does? This has been the model for years now. It's nothing new.

Without anything done to camping/tunneling/slugging, absolutely not. There's this attitude that Killer is never allowed to lose and that keeps the game in stasis. Asking for more reinforcement of what keeps the game stagnant when changes are proposed is why it's failing.

Yeah I see nearly nobody play her I also want to point out that Haddie players act like she gets nothing yet in the past year or so she is one of the survivors who has recieved the most.
So it's not without trying, she just isn't popular regardless if she gets outfits or not.An important question to ask is: who was she for? Diversity is great and all, but you have to know your audience too. When you look at a list of the most commonly played characters, the trend is pretty obvious. And the cast is so outrageously large at this point that a character who might've been the 5th most popular several years ago easily drops down to the 20th.
-
It's a half-baked technicality. The reality we're reminded of all of the time is that BHVR is always right. It doesn't matter what we experience or see with our own eyes—the stats say otherwise. The stats we're not allowed to see very often, that is. Whenever we press for answers, we're either met with silence or non-answers that infantilize our concerns.
In short, they say a lot but don't do a lot. And the game is the way that it is as a consequence.
-
This argument gets so tired. At the end of the day, this is an emotional appeal. Abusing gameplay is not the same as rude gestures and any attempt to compare the two quickly falls flat once egos are set aside.
-
Reminder that this was something on the roadmap to fix that BHVR intentionally scrapped. It's how they want the game to be.
Glad you came to the light at least and understood what we've been dealing with.
-
It's kind of insane to see the weaker state of the blood gens still not being enough to quell the "gens are too fast" complaints. At this point I have to assume that those complaints will be heard above all else.
-
I don't think they're unaware if it's been leaked to multiple people. At best, they might be investigating. But it's also not as if BHVR has the best reputation.
-
I think that statement is coincidental. The game was the best when the game had the largest perk variety (including regression and chase) and when it was overall more busted. Was it balanced? No. But it somehow worked. The more they've cracked down on the 40/60 KR, it's only made the game worse and no one seems to enjoy it anymore.
You also have to factor in things like current map balance and Killer powers. Even if you promote chase, there isn't much you can do with embarrassingly weak loops and more anti-chase powers than not. The base game would also need a facelift to really promote chase again.

The devs don't care about killer players, accept this and you live a happier life, nothing will be changed.
About the combo: just tunnel as much as possible.
They balance the game around Killer egos, especially proven by 2025. But it's not a formula that works because someone who always asks for more will never be satisfied. You see it every place the game is discussed—the current state is always the worst it's always been for Killer.
As far as the OP goes, I don't see anything like that sticking for very long. Just give it a month or so.
-
I don't see why it should get the ax given the current state of the game. When the game is constantly in need of Survivors and more and more new Killers break the trials, you have to give players something that feels like they have autonomy. We don't have stealth, healing and gens are going the way of the dodo next update, side objectives have been off the table for years now—just let us have Exhaustion perks.

My last 30 matches the average time for a trial is 11 minutes. Average normal match lasts between 8-15 minutes. Seems quite normal match length to me. So at least in my matches have not seen anything that makes them faster than normal matches.
I agree. I wish they were faster, but they're agonizing. 11 minutes with no gen progress, camping/tunneling/slugging right out the gate. Miserable.
When I say "over", I mean stalled.

After playing more of the event, I've only found this to be more true. The event is clearly designed around making blood generators harder to complete, to the point that the majority of my trials are ending very early. One or two have let us go, but it's very much not in our control. Too easy to guard a cluster of pumps and have gen regression kill the rest.

Yeah that should be fixed. Hopefully we'll get some weak bots to fill the empty space one day. But I'll be a little sad because I'll have nothing to laugh at.
True 😭

The way I see it, they either do implement this and we have another meta that harms the game that BHVR is very adamant about keeping (ala 6.1.0) or it gets changed in PTB to only affect Survivor (most likely outcome).

I get great satisfaction out of killers DCing. Me laughing at them behind my screen is enough of a penalty. The match just ends, survivors get escapes, and that's a wrap.
Though I don't really care about DCs overall, it's different on survivor if you do it really early, because you could be prematurely screwing your teammates. I've had two matches recently where all three of my teammates DCed within 2 minutes. It wasn't a great feeling, being left alone with zero consideration, with killers who were still determined to kill me. As killer, you're just you, so I think those DCs are much less impactful.
For me it's more how they're handled. No catchup for Survivor + instantly failed Adept (which was an update they added, for whatever reason) is what makes it more harmful. Otherwise I couldn't care less.

I don't know what to tell you. Trash talk is a part of PVP. Are these actionable threats? Are they posting your information? Are they making plans? Or are they just raging and saying mean things? If it bothers you, you have the option to report it. Otherwise, calls to the community to change basic human behavior under stress (which this game is extremely stressful for what it is) is just unrealistic.

I'd like to see it go in the opposite direction and revert the penalty system entirely back to where it was before. It's cruel and unusual as it is now. It makes an example of you. This game is very tilty and fatiguing, so it's going to happen. It's also incredibly unserious (no ranks, no stakes, just lost time and patience). Just totally inappropriate.
