If they remove it, they better replace it with something else. Killers are much faster than survivors, and if we're just going to slowly remove window vaults, pallets, etc. without replacing it with other things then the game is just going to turn into short chases where the killer almost always wins.

There aren't enough ways right now to break chase that aren't looping, and while I agree that looping is boring (on BOTH sides) it's ridiculous how often people bring it up as toxic behavior or something to just straight up eliminate instead of replacing it with something else. Do you want to actually have a challenge as a killer or do you just want 4ks every game? The waits for matches trying to play killer are already absurd, I think the devs should avoid making more changes that will just keep pushing them longer and this is one that would.

    What about juking the killer?

You know, double back up and losing the killer.

Doesn't work against good killers with a brain, ears and eyes.

Have you tried using Iron Will, Lightweight, Quick& Quiet and Dance with me or Lithe?

Again, they are nice perks to use against killers who can't think.

So i take it you never tried to use those perks then.

Semantics doesn't change the fact the killer is still hook camping and I've had a lot of rank matches where the killer face camped me as in he was almost within my character model. So no that's not according to survivor mains that's according to people that regularly face killers that do in fact face camp.

I find it curious, how survivors insult even after a nice and fair match without camping. But complain about campers, when killers are fed up with all the insults.

  • @Vortexas said:
Most of the killers I've faced are usually willing to swap hooks for gens.

The vast majority actually. A handful just wanna play normal games that's fine. Haven't ran into a Gen camper yet.

Gonna start my killer grind tomorrow. Figured I'll play normal games, but if they wanna farm it's tit for tat.

You sabo an event hook though you get a campin.

Just had a match where survivors sabotaged 2 event hooks in the first minute.
I quit the match. If i can´t do my event, they won´t do theirs.

I can proof it by presenting you a screenshot. But then you probably say that's because I used add-on X and offering Y and that it doesn't count, bla bla.

Before and after. I wouldn't doubt it happens sometimes in extreme circumstances (so yes, you using specific add-ons or a mori might make it happen) but in 95% of games where you get a 4k with 5 gens you will pip or double pip. I've had several in the past week like that. One game in particular (again as Freddy) this group was all running around like chickens without heads and being way WAY too altruistic to the point there were almost sandbagging each other. Game was over in less than 5 minutes and I was even trying to give some of them chances because it was just so sad. Double pip while the best survivor barely got 3k BP.

"A screenshot" won't cut it, especially when I've had plenty of experiences that contradict that. You'd have to show me a lot of screenshots from back-to-back games for me to even take you seriously. Don't act like me dismissing your one isolated example proves you right. It's like those anti-vaxxers that point to this one (bogus) study that says vaccines cause autism, when there are HUNDREDS of other studies and years of scientific/medical data that say otherwise. That's called selective bias.

Oh palease!!! I've gone up against some amazing killers that knock off survivors like shooting fish in a barrel. Marth88 just needs to put down the Double Western Cheeseburger when playing DBD killer. Developers just gave all killers a bump.... yet Marth88 still can't win against survivors? He should maybe go back to Friday the 13th.

Could you elaborate on that bump all killers got? Unless 2 killers = all killers.

  • Just had a match with Leatherface. 2 toolboxes in the lobby, so i prepared for the worst and equipped a mori.
Fortunatly they didn´t try to sabotage the hooks and i didn´t use the mori until the third hook. (i play fair, if the survivors play fair)
Result: "eeeezzzz" "reported for boring killer"

I swear, there is no pleasing survivors.

  • In defense of all Leatherfaces i have to break a lance.
If Leatherface plays fair and doesn´t instantly mori someone (even tho he can), the survivors will then call the game EZ and boring. So it´s no surprise that they don´t get any mercy in a future game. A viscious circle indeed.

Oh and Leatherface is Mid tier at best. I like playing him, but he´s far from OP. Asking him to not use his power is ridiculous. Why play Leatherface then? Why not someone else who has a better power?

  • @loveleh said:
I personally think he is wrong, i mean just connect the dots, killers have too much op perks and yes removing noed and insidious would help.. but survivors don't have a lot of op perks, no i'm not denying that survivors don't have op perks and no i'm not fighting for 'giving survivors more op perks' but killers are mostly op in this game, and no one does anything about it.. maybe you never noticed this but true always complains about survivors and how they are either op or something else while not mentioning killers.. killers can run perks that make it literal hell to play, then complain about dc-ing.. anyways just wanted to say that yes he is right that survive with friends can 'be #########' and yes noed, decisive, and insidious would help balance match making and just generally make it a better game to play. So letting survivors make points and pip is now failure.

Letting the other side win is a failure. You shouldn't just let it happen, you should be trying to kill people. Also, most bad killers don't "let" it happen, it happens because they are bad, hence they failed. NOED rewards failure as much as DS does.

A strategy for end game should involve some skill on the killers part. Hence why Remember Me and Blood Warden aren't crutch perks because they require you to do something for them to have an affect. NOED doesn't, it just requires you fail, making it a comeback mechanic and a crutch. If your strategy is "let them win" then you shouldn't be rewarded for that. If your strategy is "prepare for end game" that is something to reward.

NOED requires the killer to track down, chase, and hit the survivors he supposedly didn't hit during the whole match.

DS requires the survivor to fail at hiding, fail at juking but to hit a skill check to get a free out of jail card.

LOL don't flatter yourself. I've been playing Freddy since he came out.

    @Tsulan said:
The game isn´t over until you see the point screen.
Until then everything goes. If the killer wastes a perk slot to have a chance to one hit survivors after the gates have been powered, then thats a strategy. Survivors can easily avoid NOED, if they can stop their gen rush and do some totems.

You can easily avoid DS by not picking up the obsession. You can also run Enduring and just eat it. You can also run Remember Me or STBFL if you wanna punish the group for having someone using DS. DS has counters, but that doesn't make it any less of a crutch. NOED is the same.

    @Runiver said:
The main issue with NOED is, if a survivor gets caught early and hardcamped, the killer can easily earn 2 kills by usually grabbing another one with NOED as the gates are getting opened.

Yes, this is the common scenario with NOED. Sometimes they get more than 2 and all because a perk carried them. That is the definition of a crutch. I have almost never faced off a killer using NOED their either 1) was complete garbage and could barely catch one person all game even when you don't gen rush, or 2) did exactly what you talk about here. I've also never faced a GOOD killer that used NOED. It's always ALWAYS the most unskill killers that use it, and you can immediately tell they are bad when they chase you and fall for every mindgame, get looped at unloopable pallets, and swing 10 times before landing a hit.

    @Skorpanio said:
I'll add you to my 'Kill camp and mori' list now.

Ask me if I care. Not to mention I don't play the game on PC.

    @Tsulan said:
Why is NOED considered "rewarding failure"? Game is not finished until you see the point screen.
I mean there are perks specifically for the endgame like Remember Me and Blood Warden.

You failed to kill anyone before the gates were powered. That's failure on the killers part. They did NOTHING to earn it. At the very least with DS you have to hit a skill check. NOED is just given to you if you played poorly. The difference between NOED and other endgame perks is that it takes some SKILL to activate those perks. RM requires you to find and hit your obsession 6 times, then kill them. Blood Warden requires you to hook someone after the gates are open. NOED... you do nothing and get it. That's why it rewards failure.

"Game is not finished until you see the point screen" is like saying "Giants lead the Jets 1000-2 but the Jets can still make a comeback". No if the exit gates are powered and all 4 survivors are alive that's basically a loss. If the killer expressed some SKILL during the game then they wouldn't be in that situation, and if they used skillful end game perks they can extend the game in their favor. By that logic if a killer goes around and slugs everyone with 5 gens left, and no one has Unbreakable, "OMG we can still win this guys!" No there are some scenarios where it's just a loss waiting to happen.

    @Freudentrauma said:
A game mechanic that seems to reward failure isn't bad by design. There is an interesting video about feedback loops in game design on youtube. It explains how and why so called negative Feedback Loops exists. It kinda prevents games from beeing boring or the winning side snowballing the other one.

The thing with negative feedback loops, or "comeback mechanics" is that they are SPECIFICALLY designed to circumvent skilled play. The Blue Shell in Mario Kart is there to help bad players get ahead of good players. That doesn't mean it's healthy for games to reward players that are bad. It's the reason items are banned in Smash Bros, because they are there only to help bad players. Case and point, Ken vs. CPU in the Nintendo's sponsors Brawl tournament. Ken, literally the best player in the world, lost to a nobody kid that just spammed items on a really lame stage. Ken didn't use items and lost specifically for that reason. The pokeballs and assist trophies did all the work for him. If you're goal is to create a fun, competition-free game then yes, comeback mechanics are great. But when it comes to competitive games, which DBD gameplay arguably is as the devs have stated they wanted a "tug of war" type of gameplay when they introduced emblems, it just ruins the game. Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is another great example of bad comeback mechanics in a competitive style game. X-factor is the comeback mechanic in that game, and some players completely rely on it with a powerful anchor character to just plow through the enemy. When they are on the brink of losing, legit losing because they got outplayed, they just land 1 opener, pop X-factor, and completely demolish 3 characters in a row because of how strong it was on the last guy. None of these mechanics are acceptable to top level players. The only ones that accept them are the bad players than can't win any other way.

Snowballing isn't something that should be stopped. If a player/team is that good that they just wipe the floor with you then that's how it should go. You shouldn't get a boost because you got bodied. Imagine any sport that had a comeback mechanic. OMG Yankees lead Redsox 50-1, so last inning the Redsox get a bonus "homerun derby" round where they can score more points to catch up. See how awful that sounds? These mechanics are there to remove skill from the equation, which again isn't a bad thing if your goal is to have a non-competitive atmosphere. But DBD is competitive in nature, so these types of mechanics only ruin the experience. NOED/DS are both in this category, hence why they are two of the most despised perks in the game.

    @Sarief said:
    Populism in it's natural habitat

X said so, it means it's true! he's the only one who spoke out!

It is and has been my own opinion that both DS and NOED are crutch perks and don't belong in the game. Tru had the same sentiment, and he is a popular streamer/YT'er that is mostly a killer main where most killer mains defend NOED to the death. This is a case of "from the horse's mouth", which is why all the killer mains are denouncing his statements. Had he said "NOED should be a permanent thing" I bet you anything these same people would be praising his opinion.

China called. They want their wall back...

So letting survivors make points and pip is now failure. Better basement camp them from the start. Orders received!

    Your analogy isn't very accurate.
A killer with Blood Warden and NOED can turn a 0k into a 4k. Killer wasted 2 perk slots for this very moment. He didn't had those 2 perks during the rest of the match. Effectively gimping himself.
As I said, its a strategy. A gamble.

DS isn't. But nice of you, that you agree on slugging DS users. Maybe dribble them to the hook.

"Get rid of Decisive, Insidious, and NOED and rank would be a lot more skill based."

He is 100% right. DS and NOED are crutch perks for bad players. Killers defend NOED until they are blue in the face but at the end of the day it's there as a comeback mechanic for when you fail, making it a crutch (just like DS). If you need this perk to get kills, accept that you aren't as good a killer as you might think. And if you complain about DS but use NOED you are nothing but a hypocrite.

I agree with him on Insidious only because it makes people play like trolls, not necessarily because it's a crutch. With a few tweaks I think it could be salvaged.

BTW I got to rank 1 with Freddy without using NOED, just incase someone wants to tell me "git gud". Also I'm sure some killer main will say something like "Tru is a bad killer" as a way to dismiss his statements, when the truth is they just can't stand when one of their own actually tells it how it is.

    Come at me.

Suddely everyone got to rank 1 as Freddy. Is this a new trend i started?

Until then everything goes. If the killer wastes a perk slot to have a chance to one hit survivors after the gates have been powered, then thats a strategy. Survivors can easily avoid NOED, if they can stop their gen rush and do some totems.
Survivors asked for a secondary objective, now they ignore it and go mad if the killer gets a comeback.

Insidious will be nerfed hard, once every survivor gets Kindred.

Not gonna start about DS. Or maybe a little bit. Survivors love to dc if they get downed and fail their DS skill check. 1 DS isn´t a problem. 4 DS are a problem. If they change DS to only be usable by 1 survivor, then they can keep it the way it is now. But give survivors a warning that more than 1 has DS equipped. So they can change the loadout.

You realise DS hard counters NOED, right??

You realise you double posted this, right?

they'll be in the office in about 2 hours, hopefully they get this solved pretty soon.

^This. It's 7 AM where they live. Their work day must've ended just as the problem started, more or less. Believe it or not, but a problem doesn't fix itself.

So they launched the patch and went home?
Cause i had this problem since the patch.

  • Error 37 anyone?

Wht I want to know is are we getting more time to reflect on the fac that its sodding hard to even get a game going due to the server issues

Depends on how long those problems are going. They prolonged the Howling Grounds.

Why is NOED considered "rewarding failure"? Game is not finished until you see the point screen.
I mean there are perks specifically for the endgame like Remember Me and Blood Warden.

Because otherwise Survivors would have to admit that NOED even triggering is their fault, and that late-game builds don't exist.

    Oh damn, you are right.

Indeed. When I pointed out that all of the Nightmare's perks are late-game in another thread, all I got in response was a dodge, claiming that he's "more effective" with such and such build, despite the fact that I was only referring to his perks and not his gameplay (since perks are teachable and all, referring to so and so character's perks is literally just referring to the perks).

I would love it, if Blood Warden was activatable by pressing a button. Not by hooking someone after the gate has been opened. Punish teabaggers at the exit gate would become my new hobby.

NOED can be permanently and irreversibly shut down before it's activated. DS cannot. They're not on the same level.

True, they are not. Though it’s just the premise of idea of “rewarding failure”. Both do the same thing, DS just does it better.

About DS : it's bad in every single scenarios. It's just unfun and poorly designed.

Just like the hatch. It rewards failiure.

The game isn´t over until you see the point screen.
Until then everything goes. If the killer wastes a perk slot to have a chance to one hit survivors after the gates have been powered, then thats a strategy. Survivors can easily avoid NOED, if they can stop their gen rush and do some totems.

  • Survivors shouldn´t be able to body block a killer who tripples their weight. Not in front of the hook, nor to give other survivors the free exit.
Killers shouldn´t be able to block the stairs of the basement.

Ok, well after reading all of this, I still think my most valid point is the amount of hooks. There should be way less.

There should be just enough hooks that a killer really has to use scramble to find one just before the survivor wiggles out. It should be about perfect timing for the killer, just like skill checking a generator. I mean, if a survivor REALLY has to look carely for a generator (without a perk), then the same should go for hooks and killers. It's not fair that a hook is right next to a generator, or right next to a cabinet, or even right next to the exit gate. Or two hooks within close proximity to each other.

The hooks should be sparse. How is it fair that a killer can pick me up at ANY where in the map and hook me before the Wiggle bar even gets to 20%? Even with Boil Over, I have found killers can find hooks within 1-2 seconds at anywhere of the map. THEY ARE EVERYWHERE!! It is absolutely not fair.

Also, something needs to be done about rage quitting. If a survivor rage quits, it makes it easier for the killer.

However, if a killer disconnects ,the whole game ends, not fair at all.

And killers should not get faster during a chase, they should get slower, as it get slower for survivors. There needs to be exhaustion for running on both killers and survivors.

Survivors would start hook blocking and killers wouldn't be able to hook anyone. Bad idea.

Killers get slower during a chase? Survivors can loop a killer for 5 gens. You want more?
Don't be do harsh, every beginner thinks that killers are op, Once ago I had the same opinion but then I started ranking up killer....
You're right. I was a little bit to harsh.

@op, take your time and play both killer and survivor. You can only learn useful things for both sides. For example how killers and survivors think in certain situations.

It's pretty sad that a seemingly unfixable "exploit" can become a two year old game's most usable strategy .

    It´s not a bug, it´s a feature!

You're joking, but it actually is.

If there was no looping, chases would end pretty immediately most of the time. There's not very many features that encourage hiding. The red strikes are incredibly easy to follow, so if you're not running perks to make them vanish then evading a killer in chase is near impossible given the large speed differential.

I'm not saying looping is fun for everyone, but it's not like it's a bug or exploit anyone is using to break the game. It's just literally the only mechanic that was working in for the survivor side of chases.

But devs have stated chases were never meant to take long. You basically admitted not looping would mean the game was being played as envisioned. You're right that it isn't technically an exploit but it negates the speed advantage the killer was always intended to have which actually does break the game. Looping is the root cause of major game troubles. It caused pallet reduction and nerfs and dilated chase time means gens are too fast ( the gen rush effect). The unintended use of the smaller collision box that allows looping is creating a cascading negative effect on the game.

The devs say a lot of things. I've also heard them say that stealth isn't supposed to be a mechanic, which seems counter intuitive if they want chases to be short and anyone to play survivor for longer than a match or two.

I agree about the generator issue-- something about the mechanic of the game is fundamentally broken. It puts a lot of pressure on the very start of the match to go somewhat flawlessly for the killer, or for the survivors to make major mistakes later on. Neither of those are particularly fun scenarios.

That being said, I don't really feel like looping could be removed from the game as the game currently is. I don't know what a better solution is, unfortunately, but it would be nice to find some sort of middle ground where killers aren't rushed first thing in the game and survivors have at least some hope of escaping a few chases here and there.

Add more areas with sight blockers and make the hit box the same size.
Survivors will cry that it's impossible to lose the killer, but do it anyway. Just like they did with flashlights.
