Is there something specific you want to know about the tournament?

and they only averaged 2 kills with those restrictions in place at high skill levels? lol holy chit. imagine without restrictions lul then it probably would be all escaped or 1 kill half the time at least
Exactly. Killers struggled even with restrictions.
No real meta. 4x DS, BT, Unbreakable, DH and it would have turned into a 0k.

looks it being just atad tougher to juke and tad easier to hit evened things out a bit if that was the way it turned out on tournament level. did they have to limit perks in some way, like the number of survivors on the etam allowed to use ds or did they use the changed ds version instead? I'm curious about everything in play there since I would expect many of the matches to have ended with 1 kill if I'm being honest if the teams were all on comms and the very best like no one ever was.
Perks and items were heavily restricted. No duplicates and no keys.
-
Well according to the devs idea of 2 kills, 2 escapes. The tournament must look perfect for the devs.
And thx for the code :)

My bad, thanks for clarifying htat.
But I still disagree with you.
That's a very killer-sided view of things. Especially since on many map spawns the exit gates spawn right next to each other. That is basically a no-win situation. It is impossible to escape. Again, hatch is necessary to give Survivors home, even a slim one. If you remove hatch you should fix the exit gate spawns. On some maps exit gates spawn guaranteed within 10 second walking distance of killer. It would be impossible to make a play for them.
And this still doesn't take into consideration how the last 2 survivors can just choose to hide forever -- which is a very real problem. Hatch needs to exist to give survivors a reason to keep doing gens.
There are many mechanical problems with balance that make the hatch necessary.
This is very survivor sided thinking from you. Imagine, the killer performs bad. All 4 survivors are about to escape and the gate closes behind the third one and has to be reopened by the last survivor. Because well... the killer needs a chance to catch at least one. Even when he performed bad. Does this sound fair? Of course not. Same goes for the whole hatch thing we have.

Back at you. What's the point of EGC then?
If you can't trigger EGC if the last survivor refuses to complete gens, then what happens?
That's why hatch is necessary. You can't even trigger EGC if the survivor just refuses to play further because there is no point. The hatch gives him a point to keep trying. If you as killer kill 3 survivors and the hatch doesn't spawn, then how are you going to trigger EGC? Right now you trigger it by kicking the hatch closed. Remove hath, and now you have your stalemate.
Good game Tsulan. Glad you're not on the balance team.
Again, you don't see this becuase you are looking it purely from a killer pespective and not considering the survivor side of things.
I´m not sure if you actually read what i write.
Ok, for the third time:
EGC starts once there is only 1 survivor left. Automatically. No need for interaction with the gate or hatch or anything. Therefore no need for the hatch.
-
@Shirokinukatsukami said:
Hatch is necessary to provide hope for the last survivor.
This is even a rational embedded in the lore of the game, created by Vigo and playing into the Entity's need to feed off hope.
And mechanically it makes sense. If a survivor team is getting stomped why should they bother to continue trying? The hatch is there as a small chance for them to escape even after getting beaten down hard.
Killers have NoEd for the same reason. Hatch and NoEd are "catch up mechanics" to give the losing side a chance even while losing. They weren't just introduced just to prevent stalemates. Even with EGC you can still have a stalemate if the survivor just doesn't do gens. EGC doesn't trigger if you never reach endgame. Your argument has no merit.
Survivors have Adrenaline. Don´t compare a perk with a game mechanic, pls.

Killer can kick the gate open and trigger EGC. There is no need to change anything further.
Killer can only kick the gates once all gens are completed.
What´s the point of the Hatch then? Isn´t it to give survivors a way out? Once the EGC triggers, the gates are powered. The last survivor can go for the gate. This would also buff Wake Up.

Only if you also remove NoEd and EGC.
Hatch is necessary in the game.
Hatch was introduced to avoid a stalemate where the match doesn´t progress, because the last survivor isn´t doing gens.
Since we have the EGC we don´t need the hatch anymore. Just trigger the EGC once there is only 1 survivor left.
-
@Fog_King said:
So survivors are tunneling a gen... and as a killer you are tunneling the same gen, if you constantly go back to it. Sounds like you all need to have an agreement and leave the poor gen alone to cool down for a bit.
The killer can´t really do much more than kick it like Beckham.

No it was added for a reason so why scrap it if it's needed

-
Easier approach: just remove the hatch.
Problem solved.
-
To many survivors.
To few killers.
That's the problem.
-
The game is so survivor sided, most killer mains switched to survivor.
That's why new killers get matched against red ranks. Simply not enough killers around.

I didn't say it was the only one. I'm tired of having surveys so long yet filled to the brim with so many arbitrary and nonsensical questions, while also not featuring obvious questions like, "Do you have frame rate problems?" "How fun does it feel to go against multiple strong perks on every survivor?" They try so hard when making these surveys to be as vague and unhelpful as possible.
That would require for them to admit that the game is unbalanced.
The Japan tournament was heavily restricted on perks and items. Yet the survivors mopped the floor with the killers. I would have loved to see how it goes against full meta SWF teams.
-
But OP has a point. Since the update, most matches end way to quickly. Killers get 3 or 4 hooks before the last gen is completed.
If we treat gens like survivor lives, then survivors are in fact tunneling.
I've never seen a survivor, that ignores a 90% gen to go for a fresh one. Survivors go off the hook and straight to the gen. No healing until the gen is done.

great idea guys and when all killers quit or switch to survivor how are survivors going to play?
Then the devs have to change something.

@Nameless said:

Well as long as it has the same goal to help out the killer in the early game, it didn't go out the window. The core idea will always remain the same. Just the way they want to reach that goal changed.
Unless it's a new primary objective, that is obligatory, there won't be much that slows the gens down.

It's just one of those many unnecessary questions they put on surveys that doesn't make a lick of difference. I'm literally not taking the surveys anymore because they're so long for no good reason.
No, it´s not just one question. There are several pages that revolve around esports and if we like to watch them, how much we spend on them, what merchandising we buy, etc.
-
@Nameless said:

It didn't though. They literally said during the last stream they did they had been working on it and it evolved into something completely different.
Exactly. Something completely different means that the early game slowdown went out of the window.
-
@Nameless said:
I prefer they take their time with nerf or rework. They announced it will happen, so all we need to be is patient. No need to rush this or pressure them.
Yeah they kinda also announced we´d get some sort of early game mechanic, that slowed the pace down.
That idea kinda went out of the window. We´ll see something similar with the key nerf.

The longer queues were better than the bad games.
7 Minute in queue and decent game (which is what it used to be) ->>>>>> 2-3 minutes and an abysmal game.
I actually quit playing survivor because of the matchmaking. Even in 2 man swf it was me and a friend trying to carry the game against an ultra sweatlord while rank 17s hid in corners. It's easy to see why some people are totally "Swf or bust".
I play solo on red ranks. Just works fine. I see no need to play SWF.
-
There is a great disparaty between the amount of killer vs survivor players. Right now, the matchmaking does what it can, to provide quick matches. In order to make all happy, the queues would be longer. Much longer. Which would result in unhappy people.

As someone new to DBD, just curious as to why it ‘can’t” be an e-sports game?
Because right now, the balancing is horrible. If we start from the premise that 2 die and 2 escape, the killer needs to get between 6 and 10 hooks.
During the first chase, survivors usually complete between 2 and 3 gens. Means that survivors have done 40 to 60% of their objective. While the killer has completed 10% of his objective.

Maps are a bigger concern imo. If you could replay a map with the exact same map seed in competitive matches, most balance issues would be somewhat moot; you'd just set the game up one way and then switch roles but keep the same setup. That way one side wouldn't get screwed because they happened to get much worse RNG in map generation.
Maybe they already had predetermined map seeds in mind, when they started with the map reworks.

@Anniehere said:
They are doing Japan Championship right now and many are not happy with what they see there.
If there are aiming towards ESport then they should plan balance like you said.
Yes, the tournament made it painfully obvious how bad the balance is.
If they really want to establish dbd as esport title, then they need to change a lot.

That's why killer does not go for all 12 hooks. They tunnel, slug, and camp every game. Yes, totally balanced for the killer to end the game in less than 2 minutes with infectious fright or camping and making it mpossible to win for survivors.
Hook stages alone are 2 minutes. So if the match lasts less, then the fault is entirely on the survivor side.
-
@[Deleted User] said:
It's balanced.
You are always supposed to lose 3 generators by first hook, that's just how it works.
Well, thank god survivors have 3 hook stages and the killer completed 1/12th of his objective, while the survivors completed 3/5ths or 60% of their objective. Totally balanced.

They’re Red ranks but play like they’re Rank 15?
It’s simple observation, they’re terrible.
Killers were nerfed to hard 🤣

I have to disagree, these guys are a bunch of amateurs, both Killer and survivors. It’s so obvious they’ve never played killer ever and the decision making and movement from the survivors is so poor e.g in the LF game, one guy playing as Meg vaulted a window and gave up for like 5 seconds....
They are red ranks. You know, that famous group of elite players with a kill rate of 75%
-
If the killer camps the open hatch, then why not do the last gen and exit through the gate?
-
@[Deleted User] said:
I don't know, but can we talk about this last match where the guy seemed to have never played Nurse?
Nurse clearly is as OP as most people say...
Oh wait...
So far the tournament showed what the power role is. There is simply no denying it.
-
Running in circles.
-
Male baldness is a serious problem, but I don't think it's related to Freddy or this game.
-
Just switch to survivor. It's clearly the role the devs want us to play. So just switch and enjoy.

Now I'm starting to wonder if this mystery person is actually the Killer before they become the Killer.
Why did everyone think the person on the screenshot is the new survivor? It´s clearly the killer!

New killer can turn back time.

Why does everyone think that this is the new survivor?! It could be the new Killer!

Rumpelstiltskin
-
Just the tip 😎
-
Well, I'm just doing what survivors want. After a match they tell me to "tunnel harder". So that's what I do.
So far the survivors don't seem satisfied with my performance. As they keep telling me to tunnel even harder.
Trying to satisfy the wishes of survivors is really hard. I wonder when it will be enough.

You can set your your mouse wheel to be the one that clicks your flashlight so it's incredibly easily to do with clicking without the use of a macro.
Still something that needs to be looked at.

Yes, Trapper is totally fine. By the time he set up the traps, all gens are completed. But that is a design choice.
