  • Meh, I'll just go afk at a gate; if I'm up against the wall staring at it, the survivors can't get anything out of trying to taunt me, so they give up quickly. Once the gens are done, I open the gate and go to the other. Hopefully, I make it there before they open it and I get a few points chasing them off. In some matches, survivors actually die to the EGC because they're so determined to open that gate.

Survivors can rush through gens pretty fast, and then some will die accidentally for something stupid or some will be nice and die on purpose, but even if all you do is open the gate you at least eke a few more points out of the match.

  • Survivors crowd around the hook when the killer is camping, but they all stay on the other side of the map and leave me to die on my first hook when the killer is nowhere near me.

  • What really sucks is getting blinded as a survivor. A teammate dropped a firecracker and blinded me while I was on the hook, rescued me, and then I went down immediately and was rehooked because I was blind. -_-

I've also been blinded by teammates while working on a gen. And, as always happens when there's a loud noise, a skill check popped up at that exact moment.

  • @DwightOP said:

I was once getting chased by the doctor in madness 3. All gens done, only me and another teammate were left. Guess who wasn't opening the gates to help me out.

We all died thanks to this idiot.

Note: I was running the killer for ~3 minutes at the end. No clue how much more time he needed to do his job.

I had something similar happen! Except...

All the gens were done, and I was being chased by the Demogorgon. One other survivor, a Bill, was left. I led this Demo on a chase more than long enough for a gate to get opened. I finally started running towards the gate Bill must be at, hoping I'd see the EGC timer start any second. I got through the corn and I saw...

Nothing. Not a single red light. Bill hadn't even touched the door. I just came to a stop and turned and looked at the Demo. The Demo stopped, turned in a circle looking around, looked at me, and then just walked away. He let me open the door and escape.

Seeing the Demo looking around visibly confused is one of my favorite moments in a match ever.

(It's bad when even the killer is like, 'Sorry your teammate screwed you over.' And yeah, it is sooo upsetting when teammates don't open an exit gate.)

A friend and myself went up against a Ghostface, who was basically just teabagging the entire game. He wasn't really trying to down us. We opened the exit gates and he joined us all in a teabag party for like a minute. One of the other survivors went back in and threw pallets down for him to break.

lol my friend and I used to do that all the time as Ghostface right after his release! That was fun. Hard on the finger, though, mashing the shoulder button like that.

Not a monitor issue, thankfully. Maybe my eyes, because I have some difficulty with Yamaoka map as well, though only in specific parts. Sanctum just appears really dark to me. I can make out the map, but during chases, survivors can simply disappear with how dark the corners, around rocks, and in certain patches of reeds. Especially when they're using dark themed skins.

My eyes have been a little itchy with allergies, lately, but straining to see on Sanctum of Wrath gets my eyes burning. I've had to go AFK on that map recently because it's actually painful trying to search for survivors on it. The one survivor who messaged me after one of those matches was understanding about it, so that's nice.

  • You're not alone in how you feel. There are a lot of players unhappy with the role of killer right now.

You're probably going to get some "git gud" responses to your post, and some people telling you to take a break and play a different game. Those are options. A third option is finding a way to have your own fun with the role.

If you play to screw around or meme, then killer can still be fun. Is that a good solution? No, it's completely asinine that playing the game the way it's supposed to be played is often not fun. But if you want to earn BP and killer is the shorter queue, then putting on Clown with Distressing and just chasing one survivor all match throwing bottles at them is not only a good way to earn Chase and Deviousness, it's also hilarious as they scream over and over again.

There are other ways besides that to have your own fun. Try changing your goals, like just hooking each survivor once or using Franklin's to make sure no one leaves with an item. Try to keep everyone injured all game. See if you can get them to throw down every single pallet on the map. I used to play Totem Protector Bubba where my entire goal was to keep Hex: Ruin up for all five gens (back before they changed Ruin).

If you decide to completely stop playing this game, then I envy you and your ability to quit this addictive ode to masochism.

  • If all the DLC I've bought also crosses over, I'd probably buy the game for PC.

  • Killer is stressful because you're trying to juggle four survivors, and while you're chasing one the other three are probably working on gens rather than standing idly by watching the chase. You're always busy, alone trying to complete your objective, while they get to share the load. The killer is the one feeling a time crunch. It sucks, it really does.

In horror games, the killer is usually stupid OP that way you, the survivor character, is all like "holy [BAD WORD] holy [BAD WORD] I'm gonna die I'm gonna die where do I hide ohmigod." Of course, the replay value is small because the killer is an A.I., so it has a pattern that any player will get used to over time. I think the original idea behind DbD was at least in part to have a version of that with replay value by making the killer a person rather than A.I. Unfortunately, once it becomes a person rather than A.I., this whole idea of "fairness" comes into play. So, killers can't be too strong, survivors can't be too weak, and neither side is ever going to be happy with how things are. I mean, a big part of horror games is stealth, but if survivors are stealthing around the map never getting found, the killer is going to be bored, so stealth can't be that powerful. And it goes on and on, where trying to make each side fun results in unhappiness in the players.

Even if the game were a perfectly balanced 4v1, killer would still be the role with no downtime. Unfortunately, since it's PvP rather than PvE, neither side wants to feel weak, which means many survivors want it to be more of a 1v1 than a 4v1. I mean, it's hard to blame them when part of this game's whole thing is 'help your teammates... or don't.' Buf it everyone plays selfishly rather than as a team, then it being a 4v1 rather than a 1v1 feels unfair. What can I say? Welcome to DbD, the game that doesn't know what it wants to be so everyone suffers.

I don’t understand why they can’t just add a practice mode like most games have. But I’m sure Behavior has some long elaborate explanation for why we can’t have it like they do for every reasonable idea.

No, how dare you! If I wanna learn to throw hatchets as Huntress, then it's only right I bore the crap out of dozens of survivors with terrible matches where I end up spending most of my time trying to figure out where the middle of my screen is by aiming at trees, and if the survivors don't appreciate having their time wasted like that then they can just disconnect (and some do). Having a practice range where I could get used to just the most basic of basics with Huntress? That would deprive survivors of these magical matches with few Bloodpoints and a guaranteed de-pip. Ugh, the nerve.

  • After matches, survivors love to complain about anything the killer did. Stay near the hook too long? Camper! Hook someone twice in a row? Tunneler! Use pretty much any perk? You're bad at the game!

I've had matches where I used weak perks, I didn't camp or tunnel, and I killed all four survivors. After the match I got a nasty message, and because they couldn't complain about my perks, they called me a garbage killer for slugging and tunneling. Even though I didn't tunnel.

So, don't worry about it when survivors complain. They will berate you to try to get you to play by their rules, and then even if you do play by their rules, they will give you crap for some other reason. It's a game, have fun. Feel free to close chat (PC) or turn off messages (console).

Do you people not know how the “power role” works? A member of the power role is meant to be so much more powerful than a member of the weak role to the point where the combined force of the multiple members of the weak role are equivalent to the singular force of the power role, assuming everyone is of equal skill. That’s what a “power role” is, and yes, that is what the Killer vs. Survivor match-up should be. Killers need to be the power role because if a Survivor is capable of 1v1ing a Killer of equal skill, then at that point, it’s just a team of 4 versus 1 guy.

There are quadruple the amount of Survivors in a match than there are Killers. By that rule, in order to be properly balanced, a Killer’s kit should be four times stronger than a Survivor’s kit. Otherwise, why would you ever play Killer when you can just play Survivor and have an automatic sheer advantage?

In short: Yes, Killers should be the power role. That’s how this works.

In regards to DBD being a horror game: Yes, I agree, it’s not scary. But the thing is, it’s supposed to be. It’s meant to be. It was designed by its makers to be. If they want it to be scary, then the Killers need to feel overwhelmingly imposing. Simple as.

    As for you, Scott...

”This game would be absolute trash if that's how every survivor felt. "Hey guys lets group and feel like a chew toy for 10 minutes, sounds great!"”

Bro, that is literally makes horror games fun. Let me repeat: THAT IS WHY PEOPLE PLAY HORROR GAMES. If people weren’t entertained by feeling like a chew toy, horror would not be nearly as popular a genre as it is. But not only is it popular; it’s oversaturated to a ridiculous degree because of just how much people adore the feeling of being scared from how defenseless they are.

If you don’t want to feel like a chew toy, that’s fine. Don’t play horror games. It’s simple.

I would like playing survivor so much more if this were actually treated as a horror game... the killers whacks you with a blade, you get a large gash in your back... a chainsaw takes off an arm... the moris show real carnage... Plague's sickness takes advantage of body horror instead of being cartoonish green puke... okay, some of those are asking too much, but I'd really like something a little deeper than what we have here.

-sigh- It'll never be. Survivor would be a lot more fun if the game took advantage of horror instead of being a Tom and Jerry chase where someone in a killer costume gets hit with pallets. And killer would be more rewarding with better animations than just hook-and-go.

But maybe that's just me. Maybe I'm the only one who wants to hide in a locker and look out through those tiny slits barely able to see anything. I know the first chapter of Evil Within isn't going to have the same tension the twentieth time you play it as it does the first, but horror games still have an atmosphere that DbD is just lacking. Though, I don't think I will ever not have a visceral reaction to the long-haired woman screaming clawing her way out of a blood pool in the ground (again, Evil Within)... -shudders- Meanwhile, the closest DbD gets is Waluigi Spirit.

  • I don't see why there needs to be any penalty for a missed attack other than the missed attack cool down. Originally, Legion had no penalty for missed attacks in Feral Frenzy. For some reason, the devs over-corrected and made it so that a missed attack completely takes him out of Feral Frenzy. They went from one extreme to another.

I was checking out clown, he's only level 10 so I only had 2 perks, Pop and something else. I was trying to get down how far he can throw along with his natural arc as well. It wasn't too bad, I mainly tried him out because of the elephant mask I got from the Tome. Haha

Yeah, I started using him 'cause I have his Halloween Blight face, and I wear that with a blue suit and the Christmas letter opener weapon; I really like the outfit on him. Then I discovered how fun it is to pelt survivors with bottles. Now, I'm mostly playing as him or, if I see flashlights in my lobby, Doc.

  • They're chasing away all the killer players so that killers can be replaced with A.I. You don't have to worry about making A.I. happy (hopefully -cough- Skynet -cough-), so then they can just focus on making survivors happy. And, as long as the A..I. killers are ineffective and don't disrupt the flow of the match by forcing survivors off gens, then survivors will be happy.

Oh god, this game has made me cynical.

  • @perpill said:

You're a survivor with the best perks in the game that can be used multiple times and stack with other Survivors. You come and complain about a perk "that you don't care about" and say to Nerf it and say you just got through being a massive douche+toxic (x10²³) to a killer who sucks. And we're already low on killers so the queue times are longer. So instead of helping them out and giving them tips you just decide ... You're part of the reason we are in the forums. It's people like you destroying the game.

It's amazing there are any killers still playing this game, sometimes. With matchmaking as it is, survivors keep going up against newbie killers with little to no experience, and then they taunt them in-game because the killer is "so bad"... the killer hasn't had time to get better yet, and being dicks to them in-game isn't going to encourage them to stick around and get better.

I've been playing killer to get BP and because the queue times are faster, but I know I'm going up against survivors who are way, way better than me, so I don't even try to play. I've been going in as Clown with Distressing and just throwing bottles at them to max out Deviousness. I often don't even hit them much less hook them. I hope that's what they want from the game, because that's all I'm gonna give them, and with the way they treat killers who actually try, killers like me are all that's gonna be left.

(Throwing bottles at survivors is actually a lot of fun and really hilarious. Especially if you hit them with the bottle. The constant screams have me laughing all match.)

  • They asked a lot of questions about their lore, so that seems to be their current focus. I think gameplay is more important than lore, but I still gave them a novel-length response including how I think their lore could be improved.

I hope they read it and don't dismiss it, because their lore is really, really poorly written.

  • for survivors: Gen Repair Sim

    for killers: Walking Sim

  • I think what this video shows is that rocks and trees are OP and the Yamaoka maps really, really need better visibility.

Seriously, I went AFK last time I got Sanctum, because between straining to see on that map and allergies my eyes were burning. It wasn't worth the trouble, trying to steer as Leatherface and bumping into rocks hidden behind foliage. Why does the Entity generate maps that are helpful for survivors and hindrances for killers? Where are the alligator pit traps and falling boulders to make survivors think twice about running willy-nilly all over the place? Even Ewoks can set up boulder traps, and they're just teddy bears with spears.

  • Nothing sucks worse at the end of a match than having cleansed four totems and then dying to NOED because no one else bothered, but NOED has already been changed multiple times in DbD's history. Changing NOED any more than it already is would screw up the balance too much: NOED counters Adrenaline.

Either NOED and Adrenaline both go, or survivors need to learn to cleanse totems.

  • @ABannedCat said:

    Smaller maps.

^ So much this. I have had some matches recently where I spend soooo much time traveling between gens. Even when I pick a side of the map and stay on it, sometimes the gens still have a ton of distance between them. It's so boring, patrolling through all of those dead areas. Playing killer shouldn't be a walking sim.

  • Yeah, I think I got one of these myself, today. Not long into the match the Demo just seemed to give up. He led me to a gen to work on and wasn't interested in farming. I wasn't there to see what caused it, if anything. Made me sad. I tried to offer to let him hook or even kill me, but he wasn't interested.

I rarely have fun survivor games. Either I get tunneled out first thing or I get a killer who for whatever reason presents no challenge. That's not really a game, more like two sides of the same pit-of-misery coin. Ya know, people often get paid for taking part in psychology experiments.

Yup, I've been seeing flashlights a lot. It's gotten to where if I see even one flashlight in the lobby, I bring Doctor and I slug. Flashlights don't leave.

  • Had a Leatherface daily today. Loaded him up and got put into Sanctum of Wrath. Barely got into a chase, I don't think I even hit them once. Pretty quickly, I had to just stop and go afk because between allergies and straining to see on that dark map, my eyes were burning. Plus, my feet were tired from all that walking.

There are so many issues with maps in this game.

  • I"m trying to do a Daily Ritual to heal other survivors three health states.

I've been trying to get it done for hours. Survivors either won't let me heal them or killers find and tunnel me out first thing. -_- Unfortunately, survivor queues are faster than killer queues right now. I'd much rather meme around as killer.

Funny how in "horror" game, the Killers are the ones who have to hide from survivors.

Just goes to show how well designed the game actually is.

Maybe today I'll try playing hide-and-seek as Piggy on Yamaoka. Whoever finds me wins a helmet.

  • @Sylorknag said:

Had a game as Demon on Grim pantry yesterday. After 1 hook I kind realized I had no chance against a SWF who had purposely picked this awesome map.

To no surprise, they were refusing to do the gens, I stood afk for a good 5 min, and they just stood around me.

They didn't want to finish the game and move on, their only purpose was to bully me.

But hey, guess the survivors had a blast, so missing accomplished devs.

When I go afk mid-game, I either stand in front of an exit gate switch or down in the basement. Either way, I face a wall. They may try running around me a bit, as is evident from the scratch marks, but they usually give up quicker.

  • BBQ does also have more limitations on it. The killer gets one stack each time he hooks a different survivor; hooking the same survivor twice doesn't give him another stack. Meanwhile, WGLF not only doesn't have that sort of limitation, but it also gives stacks both for safe unhooks and for protection hits.

The only info I can think of to give survivors for running WGLF that would complement what it gives stacks for would be to show the aura of the survivor/killer while the killer is carrying the survivor. But it's not really necessary to give info. WGLF encourages survivors to help each other and offers a BP reward for it. BBQ encourages killers to spread the love and hook all the survivors and gives a BP reward for it. Yes, the killer gets info from BBQ, but getting the killer away from the hook benefits survivors; camping killers are one of the most complained about things in this game.

  • It's not detrimental to survivors, it benefits them, which is what Spooky13 is saying. I think you misread his comment a bit.

I send GG after every game and I'm not trying to be mean or farming for salt. Maybe he meant well, idk.

Unfortunately not; he was definitely being a jerk. But of the many, many survivor games I've played, I've only ever had that happen once. I don't receive messages from killers often, but every other one has been pleasant.

  • @Sylorknag said:

Is there a consensus that only survivors send hate messages?

At least on PS4 I've only gotten hate messages from survivors.

PS4 here. Yup, whether I play survivor or killer, I only ever get hate messages from survivors.

The only non-friendly message I ever received from a killer was a Wraith who tunneled and camped everyone; after the match, he sent me a "gg." Pretty sure he was being a troll and mining for salt. I'm not an idiot, so I didn't respond.

  • Pennywise from Stephen King's It.

    Jeepers Creepers, of course.

    Chucky would look ridiculous.

As iconic as Jason Voorhees is, I doubt DbD would do him justice.

  • I've never seen so many flashlights in my lobbies, before. I'm not amused. When I see 2+, I bring the Doctor, I keep them in Madness tier 3 as much as possible, and I often slug everyone until all four are on the ground before I start hooking.

The devs fixed the weird, very situational flashlight bug with Legion, but this is still a thing? No, that's not okay.

  • I get jump scared by unseen survivors hitting me with pallets or Head-On'ing me way, way more than I ever get spooked as a survivor.

  • I've got a bunch of hours in the game at this point (Devotion 8 Level 90, which is another way of saying my player level is 890) and I can still feel stressed/anxious while playing killer.

One thing that helps a lot is watching tutorials and gameplay videos on YouTube. I picked up different things from watching experienced killers play.

Make sure to play survivor, too. It's a good way to see how survivors play, learn hiding spots, etc.

Whatever happens, don't feel bad, man. Everyone has good matches and bad matches. If survivors get you down by telling you you're the worst killer ever, don't pay it any mind: they say that to everyone. The game has so much RNG that sometimes there's not much you can do, so just try to have fun and don't take it too seriously.

  • I was playing as Clown with one tier 1 perk (Distressing) yesterday (on PS4). After the match, one of the survivors messaged me...

    "You gave me depression"

"You could've killed us 100 times over but instead you let us suffer"

"You let us win but at what cost im dying inside"

    "I'll never be the same"

That had me laughing. The toxic ones I receive are less hilarious, though I did once have someone claim they were a fog whisperer and that they shamed me live on stream so I should change my account blah blah blah. Man, some people get so salty.

Tell this those killers that shout in caps "######### genrushing survivors". Happens every now and then, apparently more often then you would expect. So yes, this term is definitly a thing, and it is not mainly there to blame the game.

And #2 is just the optimal way to play. Usually done vs a Killer that is proxycamping the whole time.

I already responded to a similar comment:

Gen speed is a sore spot right now, because Ruin just got nerfed and killers are seeing a crapton of toolboxes in their lobbies, leading them to complain about gen rushing. They're angry at survivors, but the anger is mostly misdirected; their problem is with the game mechanics. But not everyone knows where to correctly direct their unhappiness with the game. The survivors are the ones they're playing against, so they're the obvious target.

tldr; The game is to blame; not all killers know where to direct their anger, though, and survivors are the most obvious target.

And it's bad that #2 is the optimal way to play. Side objectives are there for a reason, so if survivors aren't doing them, then it disrupts the balance. Again, that's on the devs, not the players; it means the methods the devs are trying to use to balance their game are ineffective.

  • I've been playing No-Blink Nurse, tonight. No add-ons, just running tier 1 Enduring and not Blinking. If the survivors don't realize I'm slow as molasses and try to mind game me, I actually get hooks. If they "hold w," then I'm outta luck.

It's sad I find this more enjoyable than trying to play around her cool down.

  • @pizzamess said:

Sound in this game is so badly bugged its to the point where trying to rely on sound will most likely ######### you more then help you

I've been playing with the TV on mute. It probably is better that way, because hearing an injured survivor for a millisecond before it goes completely silent again is more distracting than helpful.

Survivors also really shouldn't encourage killers to play slugging games by bringing three flashlights or sabo'ing all the hooks right now. I'm not going to be able to find them on the ground; they're going to spend four minutes bleeding out.

  • As unhappy as I am about the audio, I realize that it's a more complicated issue than the broken DS.

I am however unhappy that they fixed the Legion flashlight bug immediately (how big of an issue was that, really?) but Spirit's phase audio is still broken and playing within her TR, and I don't think I've ever even seen the devs acknowledge that it's an issue despite that people have been bringing it up for a long time, now.

sorry to break it to you, but killer mains are the whiny part of this community. always crying if they don't get easy 4k every match

On PS4, I've never gotten a message from a killer complaining about anything... I get messages all the time from survivors complaining about stuff, though; apparently, it's important I know they didn't like my performance as a fellow survivor or as a killer.

Most I ever get from a killer is "Sorry, I didn't mean for you to die" or "gg."

  • It would be so much better that way. Evil Within is in third person, but when you get in that locker it switches to first person POV and it's way more tense for it. In DbD, the third-person POV in the locker is rather comedic if anything.

  • I haven't had much problem with people DCing on my Doc.

Had three people DC in one match on my Clown, today, though. o_0

  • The best solution right now is to play whichever side has the shorter queue time (which is different for everyone depending on platform, region, and time of day). It's a lot less frustrating to have bad/short matches when the queues are instant.

Until matchmaking gets fixed (and devs said it'll be weeks before that happens), that's really the only thing you can do about it besides playing a different game.

  • I'm an anti-lobby-simulator main, which means I play whichever role has the shorter queue.

In the daytime, that's survivor. In the evening, that's killer. So, I main neither.

  • Right now, Doc is the easiest killer with which to get Deviousness BP. If that gets messed up, I'm gonna hafta go back to standing around phasing as Spirit, and that's boring.

Survivors seem to be adapting to Doc, anyway. I've had matches where my Static Blast wasn't that effective because the survivors knew how to use lockers.

  • @coppersly said:

We need more survivors like you friend. Too many just want 5 minute games (and even those are longer than they'd like) instead of a daring match with risks and adventure.

I have noticed this myself: many survivors seem to want a killer who doesn't "interrupt the flow of the game," or in other words, doesn't make them get off the gens.

  • With his new kit, maxing Deviousness is sooo easy, and his power is really useful with the bugged sounds.

I mostly choose who I play based on how easy it is to earn BP. I used to play Spirit, but they bugged the sounds and removed her collision at the same time, so if I play as her, it's because I'm feeling lazy and I just want to phase around and not really interact with anyone.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

Just reveal yourself and get sacrificed idiot, or at least try and go for the hatch.

Play Doctor, put everyone in madness tier 3 before slugging. It helps sooooo much.
