Ye you get high mmr killer all the time because all the high mmr survivors are fed up and quit entirely or switched to killer role themselves. Killer Q is so damn long that proper matchmaking doesn't exist really
The actual high MMR players are doing just fine, and have been generally unbothered by the changes. Hell, even the mid-high MMR players are still doing fairly well. It's the low-mid MMR players (many of whom think or thought they are/were high MMR) that are quitting, leaving a higher percentage of low-low survivors in the pool.
I think this attitude is a result of most players having a general misperception of their own level, like DBD Dunning-Kruger. If someone is a survivor and this patch totally changed things for them, they weren't all that good to begin with. And this is nothing new, we are all familiar with the killer main who thinks every team they go against is a 4 person SWF hit squad, and the survivors who think all their teammates are potatoes and they are facing high MMR killers every match.
It's easier to embrace that line of thinking than consider that you might not actually be all that good. The reality is that percentage of players who are in the top bracket is very low, and usually people with thousands and thousands of hours.
I think that if everyone could suddenly see their MMR number, the vast majority would be in for a rude awakening.
I am not a high MMR player, I have no self-delusion about that, but my surv games have been just fine, save for the uptick in DCs and teammates killing themselves on hook. As a killer, I have been noticing more potato squads mixed in, but the (actually) good teams I go against are just as potent as ever.
-
I hit Iri 1 as a strictly solo queue survivor every month, and I am not all that great. Yes, that push from Iri 4 to Iri 1 will take a disproportionately long time relative to the rest, but it's not horrible. It's certainly easier than the old rank system.
But it's supposed to be harder; the whole point is that each level is progressively harder to progress through than the rest. You need more pips, and they are harder to get. So if it's taking you longer to get through Iri than it did to get through Ash+Bronze+Silver together, that's by design.
-
I disagree with a few of the rankings, but I also might have waited until Wesker actually releases to put out a list.
-
If you're going to for a 4K, hard tunneling someone out right away is the most effective across the board strategy. If you get the game to a 3v1 with 3 or 4 gens left, you've pretty much won.
I don't play that way as killer, but it is clearly effective. In games I play as a surv where that has happened, the outcomes are almost always bad.
The caveat is that it has to be quick. If the it takes over five minutes to tunnel that one person out, it's not gonna be that effective.

There's a reason why people are considered "babies" if they're under 1000 hours. You can organically become good at looping, but it takes longer than most games.
And that's why "become a great looper" isn't a viable solution for people in low-mid ranks, which is where most of the players are. They're simply never going to put enough time in.

They are never going to nerf SWFs. While SWFs have some huge advantages the devs aren't going to nerf survivors for playing with there friends. The best we can hope for is the devs to bring solo as close to swf as possible and adjust killer to that.
Yeah, the main advantage SWF have is comms, which is something BHVR can't control anyway.
Buffing solo is the next logical step for them to take.

@OrangeBear said:
If you think they are overpriced don't buy them. Unfortunately most people don't agree with this logic which is why online games nowadays have these kind of prices. It just works very well.
It's something people want, but is inaccessible to many because they're so expensive. They'd probably make more money by lowering the per unit price and dramatically increasing the volume sold, but that's a longer term play, and companies these days can only see as far the current quarter's profit.

yeah i'm sorry but $15 cosmetics in a $20 game is absurd. legendary skins have the visual effect of owning another character but cost 3x as much and don't come with perks. didn't even come with their own voice actors or portraits until long after they were introduced.
Yeah, I understand they need to make money, but the cost of cosmetics is too much. I would pay $5 for outfits without complaint, but almost always any paid cosmetic is going cost you $15 in the end, not just the legendaries. Relative to the cost of the game itself, this seems absurd, since even the DLC chapters are less.
Also, auric cells are set up so you have buy more than you need, and have enough left over to encourage you to buy more so they don't got to waste, propagating a cycle, which is also pretty slimy.
-
11 or 12, but that's not common, and when I have loss streaks it's at least in part due to me being altruistic in solo queue. I get sacrificed a lot even when I am playing well, but it doesn't bother me unless I get careless and end up in MMR hell.
-
Spinning/360ing I've learned to deal with as a console killer.
"Aim Dressing" is the thing that needs to die.

@Grum said:
How dare people put in the time to learn the timing and angles for locker saves and then attempt to have fun doing that.
I mean it's not rocket science; calling it a tech is implying more skill than it takes. It's no more a tech than blinding the killer at a pallet. I'm awful with flashlights and the only two places I can get blinds are pallets and lockers.
It's just a map design oversight that can be taken advantage of for no other reason than to harass the killer.
And if you are someone who enjoys spending half a match doing this sort of thing, you really get to surrender any right to complain about the killer playing in an "unfun" manner.
Like ever.
-
Cleansing or not cleansing is six of one half a dozen of the other, imo, the key is that everyone needs to be on the same page about it. Which is why playing against her in solo is often a real pain.
I play as Plague a lot, and having all survs broken or constantly having access to my power doesn't make much difference to me. Her red vomit can be powerful, but landing it can be frustratingly random/inconsistent, unless you get potatoes running in straight lines all the time.
But when you have some cleansing and some not, that team is gonna have a bad time.

@GannTM said:
I’ll only do it if the last survivor is right there where I downed the third survivor. Otherwise, I don’t wanna waste everyone’s time including mine.
Same. I'm not so thirsty for the 4K that I'm gonna down someone and scour the map to find the other.
But relevant to this discussion is whether the slugged surv crawled off into some obscure corner. I know that if I am slugged and have no way of getting back up on my own, I just lay there, because you can find yourself in a situation where you you just want to move on but the killer just can't find you.
-
Well, let's see; while not the worst killer, Sadako is in the bottom half, so not oppressive.
In its current form, the Condemned mechanic will only be an issue for you if you're really not paying attention, or you're playing one of the like 3 god tier Sadakos out there.
Midwich is one of a few maps that isn't survivor friendly, and one of maybe 2 that is killer friendly, and given the hook placements recently, even that is debatable.
So not really a priority, I'd say.
-
Totally situational, depending on a few factors:
- Do I have a sacrifice challenge? Then no.
- Am I making that last push to Iri 1 grade? Then no.
- Did the last surv BM me at any point? If yes, then no.
- Was the last surv the best player on an otherwise awful team? Then probably.
- Was the last surv a random who seemed to be ignored/sandbagged by SWF teammates? Then yes.
- Was the last surv a total potato who got screwed by MMR? Then probably.
- Am I just feeling benevolent? Then probably.
Also, my philosophy is that if I (or any killer, really) don't slug for 4K (which I rarely do), I'm essentially saying I'm okay with you getting hatch, so that feel like I'm giving it to some degree.
-
Basement is too iconic (as far as DBD goes) to be removed. Not saying it shouldn't be, but it won't be.
I also think basement campers are going to be the hardest hit by Reassurance, if it works the way I understand that it does.

Yep. You totally dont need to run BT anymore. /s
Did anyone ever say you don't need to run BT anymore? I feel like people inferred that, but really shouldn't have.
See, I look at basekit BT as if it was meant to be supplementary, not a replacement. I still run regular BT, and never really thought about not doing so.
And I am not really sure why more people aren't as well, as the two combined are pretty strong. I mean it doesn't really along with the change the meta movement, but if you ran it before, why not now when the combo is stronger?
-
You're not the only one, but your odds of escape decrease dramatically with each teammate that dies.
Not saying to recklessly throw yourself into the jaws of death, but assuming some risk when called for to help keep your team alive is definitely the right wat to play even if all you care about is getting out.
I mean if you're standing at an open gate, and you choose to just run out regardless of what else is going on, so so be it. But if you refuse to take any risks (take a hit, hook trade, etc.) to help your team throughout the match, you're really hurting yourself.
-
Without question. Wesker is strong and fun AF(even though my initial reaction to him being announced was not positive), I love Ada Wong, and Rebecca comes with Reassurance.

I just turned a 3-4 man escape into a 4k with Pyramid head with Blood Warden. Only the second time or so I've been able to pull this off. Anyone got any funny or crazy Blood Warden stories?? It's so satisfying when it comes through in the clutch.
I don't run it as killer often, but I have screwed myself in the endgame more than a few times by not leaving when I should have. When that person on death hook went down and the killer left them down until the gates were opened, why didn't I just immediately leave? Who knows. Altruism will bite you in the rear sometimes.
And from the killer side, few things are as gratifying as a good blood warden play, especially if the remaining survs are BM'ing. You gotta respect it, even if you hate it.
-
It absolutely sucks to be tunneled out, but sometimes that's just how it is.
And unfortunately at higher levels, sometimes a focused tunnel at some point in the match is just necessary to win, as is proxy camping. Now if there were a workable solution to prevent those that didn't break other parts of the game (and none are evident), you'd have to rebalance killer to make other aspects of their kit even stronger.
And while that would keep higher level play balanced, it would create perhaps bigger balancing issues at low levels.
And I'm also not sold on the notion that it's appreciably easier to tunnel/camp now than before. Marginally, yeah, but it's not like some kind of switch was flipped where is suddenly became super easy.
People who tunneled and camped before continued, people who didn't probably didn't start. Now it is possible that many of those new killers who defected to killer from survivor are doing these things at a higher rate, because tbh, they often feel like the obvious/easy thing to do when you're first starting out.
-
They should just make the BP effect from those two perks basekit. 25% BP bonus for each unique hook/safe unhook.
-
BHVR stated this (custom games that can be filled out with bots) is in the works; later this year iirc.
I for one can't wait.
-
Unless I am injured or it's an insta-down killer, I'm going back in there. I'd probably get an easy 10-15% more escapes if I didn't play this way, but it's what I enjoy.
Of course this playstyle is the leading cause of me slipping into MMR hell, so it's not without consequence.
-
Legion is always boring to go against. Slowdown Legion is just advanced boring.
-
Have you seen the cost of gas? Gotta kill those survs before they make me broke running my damned gens all the time.
Also, I'm a killer, not a hooker.

To be fair, that was a hot topic when I first started playing DBD.
So much has changed since then and I'd like to see it tested again.
Also, it is not without risk. 6 meters is not a massive distance, you will need to get fairly close to the hooked player in most scenario's.
This brings up a question; does the reassurance radius work between floors? I'm assuming it does, but if it does, insidious basement Bubba is flat out cancelled.

I can blame survivors who all ragequit when they don’t get their way in a match.
Yup. And if the Nurse is that oppressive, the remainder of the match will be over more quickly than the DC penalty would be, so they should just play it out.
Or maybe it's just a tantrum, trying to punish the killer for daring to run the Nurse.
As a survivor, the only really oppressive thing post patch isn't the killer buffs or gen speeds, it's my teammates bailing every time something goes even a little bit against them.
-
If no gens are worked on for a set amount of time, slap the notification generating crows right on them.
-
My killer queue times are longer, but also still well shorter than my survivor times were pre-patch, so net win?
But more people are playing killer and not survivor, not really a mystery why the queue times changed. Why? Because BHVR improved killer (which was needed, make no mistake; killer had been in a rough state for a long time), without helping solo queue as well.
The solution isn't to revert the patch, it's to buff solo.

Why should the killer be stronger? What would be the point of playing survivor if you know there's almost no chance of winning?
I'm not a punching bag, I want to play both sides with an equal chance of winning.
I disagree a bit. Because it's a horror game where (as a surv) are supposed to be in an against the odds scenario against a powerful force. The odds shouldn't be overwhelmingly against you, but I feel like they should be against you. And it feels more rewarding that way, imo. And the odds of all the team getting out should be pretty long. Like a horror movie.
Death shouldn't be a near certainty but it should be unlikely. It feels thematically appropriate, whereas a 50:50 feels like what you would want and expect from a symmetrical game, but that's not what DBD is.
I don't know what numbers BHVR are shooting for, but 60/40 is what I would have in mind.
Being a "punching bag" would be more like ~80/20, imo. We're nowhere near that.

Something to remember is that a lot of people play the game casually and a lot of people play on console too.
For people who play casually, survivor is often the more casual role. And some will just play with friends. They really have no interest in "becoming better" because this is a video game and it's not like any of the skills are transferable to something in real life. It's just a fun way to kill time. And for those on console, they have the additional problem that killer is much more difficult to play on console. It's much harder to flick the joystick to hit a spinning survivor. Most probably play on TVs where they use the TV;s speakers rather than headphones and headphones are much more important for killers than survivors (except against Spirit).
And most of the people at P10 are probably just people who casually play the game. Heard about the Prestige update and heard about the rewards. Then used the anniversary to get their main to P3 before the update which causes their main to be P9 L50. Then you level up one bloodweb and you get P10.
I'd agree that for those who enjoy the game and want to become better that playing both roles helps. But a lot of people just don't care because it's just not important or they don't really enjoy playing the other role so why spend your free time doing something you don't enjoy.
This is true, but the issue is that if you want to have fun, and part of that fun includes escaping a fair bit, you're going to climb in MMR, and eventually you're going to enter the mix with people who are "trying to win". And when if you're someone who plays (and really only wants to play) casually, that is often a less than wonderful experience.
This is also the experience as killer, your early games are going to be relatively easy (which is why an experienced surv trying killer for a short time is gonna feel deceptively easy).
I know it's been proposed that a more "competitive" mode be implemented, but I don't see that happening. So if a player wants to have fun and "win" a fair amount, eventually they'll need to reconcile with getting better. Or just learn to find enjoyment in escaping less. Or smurf. If the mantra is gonna "I just want to have fun", you can't be too caught up with results, because a lot of people play to win, and everyone is in the same pot.
My biggest gripe is that a lot of casual surv players do a lot of complaining about game balance without really having any understanding the other side.

It's her perks. None of them are remotely strong. Usually a Survivor will have 1 decent perk, but Haddie doesn't.
I can see this being a reason if you don't have all your favorite perks unlocked for use on all survs, which I guess I assumed everyone does.
-
@SirCracken said:
Agreed. The "nerf" to the grind only applies if you play multiple killers. New players, especially players who are new to survivor, now have to prestige each character three times before getting their perks. Taking even more time and bloodpoints than it did before.
It's amazing how bad Behaviour is at actually addressing the problems in their game.
You have to prestige a character three times to get their tier 3 perks, to get the tier 1s, you just have to prestige once. Once on the characters you want them on, you can bump them up to tier 3 pretty quickly, a lot more so than running through 100 more levels.
If you're P3ing every character just for their perks, you're being really inefficient about it.

Even with that, it's only really reduced if you want every perk on every Survivor and Killer.
Even if you want all the perks on just half of the characters, the new system is a win in that regard. I was after all perks on all characters, and the update essentially finished the job for me, so I have an overall positive feeling. If you do want all persk on all characters, the new system is a titanic improvement.
The new big pain point for me is in stockpiling rare+ addons and offerings. Levels 1-35 are pretty much flushing BP as it is now.

Right let me be clearer. I never stated i was getting face camped/tunnelled every single game. I do state this in my post. But im seeing it every single game now. Thus it is a starter for discussion, and as you have chosen to discus it, you also must think its a topic for discussion.
But if you have only witnessed it 10% of the time, then you must be very very lucky, or for some reason im being put into an MMR rating with endless campers.
Once again, this is not happening to ME in every game. But i am witnessing it, EVERY GAME where no one has dc'd barring some exceptions. And even people being camped on hook are disconnecting.
My definition of camping, or in my case face camping, is when the killer is standing a few yards from the hook and not moving. Camping is patrolling a small area around the hook.
In response to why
1 - Some of these killers had 2-4k hours on the game. Nurses that could down people extremely easily are an example from tonight.
2 - I agree, except the majority are killers with 2-4k hours as stated above. If i looked at their steam profile and saw under 300 hours, i wouldnt care. But these are experienced players. I myself have 2.5k hours on the game.
3 - I dont care about tunnelling, it happens and i am good enough to loop long enough for another 1-2-3 gens to get done and/or take hits and go down for the person being tunnelled.
Yes ive heard about the new perk coming out but that requires others to run it. Unless there is something else i havent heard of?
Fair enough, but I don't even see facecamping in even a quarter of my games.
And yeah, I was referring to Reassurance, but I feel like it's going to have a high adoption rate. Yes, it's behind a paywall, but RE is massively popular and I think most are going to grab it, and because keeping a camping killer anchored to a hook for long periods of time is going to help the whole team, I think people will run it.
-
The new prestige system kind of encourages "maining" and not being immune to that, I have decided for the moment to commit to Haddie, and she is now the only surv I have over P6 (I have a bunch of survs at P6, but I have her at P11 already). If anything it'll be her and Yui for a while, so you're not alone.
-
No one is getting facecamped and/or tunneled every single game. It's a non-starter for a discussion. Maybe if it happens a few times in a row and you decide to use that as your entire sample, but that's not really being intellectually honest.
I've played a lot of survivor since the patch dropped (at least 200 matches, conservatively, probably more in the 300+ range), and was hard camped/tunneled or witnessed it in maybe 10% (that being generous) of those matches. Full on facecamping until dead? Maybe two or three times. Not any more or less than I saw before, really.
Not obviously that's my anecdotal experience and experiences vary, but the idea that people are out there getting camped/tunneled in all or even most of their games strains credulity.
When people say it is happening "all the time" one of two things is happening here, I think:
- People are just straight up lying/exaggerating for effect/attention
- People have very broad definitions of what camping and tunneling are
Now that's off my chest, when it is happening, why is it happening?
- Noob killers who feel the need cling to each potential kill because they have no confidence in being able to get others
- As mentioned above, those who don't engage with the community at large often don't realize it's considered poor form
- In the case of tunneling, it's obviously the most effective strategy and they don't know (or care) that it is frowned upon
But in a few weeks camping (especially basement camping) is gonna take a major hit, so if you feel like a constant victim of it, take heart.
-
Trapper. Can be fun, but very limited. You get those occasional games where you can hard the survs into your traps, but if things don't go your way, you have nothing.
Also in the running: Pig, Freddy, Legion (yeah, I said that), Clown.
People saying Sadako and Nemesis are nuts, imo.
@Hoodied said:
Sadako, her power’s strength revolves mainly around condemnation, which is still pretty weak as to get any pressure from condemnation you need to have a good way to reliably give it to survivors, which her teleport is already pretty restricted as is due to the thing having a long cooldown, doesn’t really help that Dredge does what she does but better at the moment
Condemnation is absolutely not her main strength, but if that is how you approach her, it's unsurprising that you'd think she is the weakest.
Her power/strength is her mobility and stealth; the condemnation is an afterthought. Yes her TP is limited, but that can be mitigated by add ons.
-
You don't have to, but if you're playing survivor and let it slip too far, you can end up in a bad place, because you'll be increasingly matched up with potatoes, and you'll have a hard time pulling out if it.
AS killer, MMR is more reflective of your own efforts, and easier to manage.
But generally speaking MMR is kinda crap.

They've been straight-up going backwards with releasing more cosmetics for new characters; they keep pulling them from the release lineup to release through Prime instead. The green Dredge cosmetic is currently MIA, the black version of Haddie's streamer outfit is missing, and Artist got the same treatment.
Though with Mikaela, I think there was a confluence of factors there - people were playing her like crazy because of CoH, BHVR saw this and went "new market??", they slated her to get a few outfits, and her new-agey witch themed cosmetics really hit a demographic sweet spot. Doesn't hurt that almost all of her cosmetic releases since have been really attractive, which created a rare new pocket of fans.
I wish they'd stop mainlining Feng/Nea/Meg/Claud, but they're not going to - cash cows will be cash cows and there's just no reason for them to make an Adam cosmetic when a Feng one could sell 15x better, even if Feng already has 2 other very similar unique outfits and 4 similar recolors to whatever they release and the Adam mains are starving.
Yeah, it's pretty frustrating. Why create a character at all if you're going to just let them wither on the vine? Or are new characters just vehicles for perks (most of which are unremarkable at best) you're only going to use on more popular characters?
I actually get a little exasperated every time I see a new Feng or Kate cosmetic come out.
-

But I love her distinctness, and think she's actually pretty cute (moreso in the character pic, though). And she feels like a real person, which a lot of the survs don't.
