There are killers that arent even fun in situationally, because they do not have different builds to go for. Myers can go for 3 or even 4 playstyles.
Pig can go for different playstyles.
With Sadako, you can go this Condemn-Way, but besides that, its all about Iri Tape.
Freddy can only go for Gen Defense with his Gen-Teleport, Addons who give him wallhacks just like Amandas Letter or Mirror-Myers arent available.
So for me, they need to look at Sadako and Freddy first before Myers.
Oh, I think Sadako and Freddy should be first up (I am a big JHorror/Ringu/Sadako fan, but she's in rough shape), but I can see a case for Myers being high on the list.
Really, I think the licensed killers in general are pretty underwhelming. The only representation in near the top is PH (and probably Wesker), a few are mid-tier, and the rest are just kind of...bad. I think they have been given poor treatment.
And Freddy...is probably the worst killer in the game rn, which is a travesty. I have a pipe dream that BHVR will acquire the rights to the classic Freddy, and we'll get an overhaul with a Robert Englund skin (w/voice lines), and classic survs (at least Nancy). That would be awesome.
-
Sure, other than the size of the model and the volume of their noises (which is seemingly going to be standardized soon), there is nothing in game to differentiate any of the survs from one another. That's why you see like 100 killer tier lists for every one surv list.
But I don't see that changing at all, and I am not sure I would want it to. I think one of the draws about surv is that you can just kind of choose the one(s) you like best and main them, and not worry that you're missing out on something by not running the others.
And the variation between the killers means less when you realize the like half of them are at a severe disadvantage against really good survs, so once you get to a certain level, you're only really working with 6-8 viable killers. At least if winning is what you're going for.
I mean you'll see me out there playing Trapper, Myers, etc., but not if I actually care about the outcomes.

I definitely can attest to those Survivor issues. Just from watching PC streamers, it seems that running tight loops is easier for them (and I've had the frame rate issue with skill checks, too). But since I've never played on PC, I wasn't sure.
I actually disagree with this, the reason I use a controller for surv on PC is that I like if better for hugging loops than the keyboard. With killer (and in shooter games) you often benefit from strafing and other quick lateral movements, but that's not as necessary with survivor. I think in most cases the analog of a stick is smoother than WASD movement. While you lose some of the quickness of lateral movement, you gain smoother control of everything between the four primary directions. There are god tier survs out there playing on console, not so much with killer.
Of course that's given it's a good controller with all the settings just they way you want them.
I often times can identify PC players right off because their movement has a certain...choppiness to it. Though in the end, I think it just comes down to what you have used the most, and your comfort level (muscle memory) with it.
And to be honest, while on PC I use the mouse per the typical arrangement, but rather than use the keyboard for movement, I have a Razer gamepad on which I mapped WASD to the thumbstick. That's in part because I've never really liked WASD, granted.
But in the end, all of that is really just a further endorsement of the PC generally, because there are so many setup options that simply aren't available on console, on top of all the other things you can tweak. If we ever get cross progression, I'll almost certainly go almost exclusively to PC.
-
Sometimes, if the killer was a dbag and I want it to not work out well for them, or if one of my team sandbagged me or left me to die and I want to see them die. Especially if it is one of those who just wants ignore objectives and immerse and wait for hatch when we're down to two and the match is unwinnable.
I really want to see them get sacrificed.
And sometimes if one of my team is really, really good, I just want to watch and learn from their gameplay.
Or if I just want something to watch while I eat a snack or something after the match.

If you are crashing that often and still decided to keep queueing up, that is on you. Like yes, it's not your fault you crashed. But you knowingly queued knowing it can crash and ruin the game for the other 4 players.
Yeah, not to sound like a jerk, but this is what it boils down to. I've had rare days where my internet was on one and just stopped playing after 2-3 bootings. Just trying to force it to happen is inconsiderate.
If someone routinely has these issues they probably stick to offline games until better internet options come along. It's not fair, but it is what it is.
-
The only other mode I've really wanted are bot/practice games, and we're getting that, so I'm good.
My survivor brain has thought expanded tutorials (like for basic stuff like looping, flashlight use, etc.) would be nice, but the killer half of my brain hates that idea. Plus we can practice that stuff in bot games.

Yep, Trickster, Nurse, Billy, and Blight definitely have a bad rep on console.
I gotta ask, how did you get your name? I'm not sure if it's a totem thing or a . . . NSFW thing lol
For me, Blight, Billy, and Oni were killers I quickly abandoned on console.
The name is a Futurama reference, to an episode called Godfellas.

If the nurse is getting multiple downs before a single gen has gotten finished, I'd rather not waste my time playing out the match.
If the Nurse has multiple downs before the first gen is done, you've probably got less time left than the DC penalty would last, so might as well play it out.
Plus you might cobble together enough points to keep from de-pipping.
@RisingTron said:
I play solo queue. Why would I suffer through a game against a Nurse.
"You're ruining the game for your teammates." I do not know those ppl.
"If I don't know you, I don't care" is such a garbage sentiment. You probably hate it when you get camped/tunneled, too. The killer doesn't know you, why should they care about your experience?
People with this attitude should just stick to single player games.
I play only solo, and so long as anyone else on my team is trying I play every game out, even hopeless ones against omega Nurses.
-
I agree that he could benefit from an overhaul. He is situationally fun (tombstone piece, scratched mirror), but his basic kit is really limited and weak. He's just very, very uneven, and dependent on add ons to be anything other than really weak.
I'd like to see him upgraded to a level commensurate with his horror stature.
Plus giving him a visual overhaul like his map would be nice.
-
Come on, it's not 90%. 50%, maybe, lol.
Honestly, we really only remember the egregious ones, but these days you do see an awful lot of potato survs who seem to have inexplicably amazing timing with DH.
Funny, that.
-
IMO, the only really clear difference is that killers who relay on aiming and flicking are miles easier to use on PC (I find certain killers to be almost unusable on console), and you have greater control of your input options on PC. Other than that, not much to choose from between the two.
I generally find survivor play to be pretty much the same on either (I use a controller for surv on PC, too).
-
More than I care to, though I feel like if you are doing challenges, it's implied that you have to do questionable things.
The problem with surv challenges is that like half of them essentially require you to throw the game, or at least really hamper your team.

I have managed to do frame perfect dead hards by accident and I do not use any cheats. So I wouldn't use that as a rule of thumb for cheaters. I know auto dead hard exists, but a random frame perfect DH is bound to happen.
It does happen, but when it's the same surv multiple times, you have to wonder. Especially if they don't seem all that good other than perfectly timing dead hards.
I feel like I run into an auto-dead harder once every few days.
-
I let people go all the time, probably too much. Probably to the point where I could have like 1/5th more kills if I wasn't sparing people all the time. I've played like 8 killer matches today so far and just flat out let 5 or 6 survs go so far.
And sometimes, when I can tell I am just way more experienced than the survs I am facing, I just lay way off the gas and one or two end up getting out, which I guess is the functionally the same as letting them go.
I guess I am just a benevolent guy.

By giving solo what SWF already has, and doesn't need: information.

Just a question, since I know survivors tend to DC when killers do slug for no reason, I asked why slugging unnecessarily is done since I assumed it'd be answered.
I see malicious, unnecessary slugging (just leaving people on the ground for no reason but to bleed them out) in like 1% of my matches.
It happens, but is a statistical non-issue. Most of the time when a surv bleeds out it's because they crawled to Narnia and the killer can't find them.

The obvious and perhaps callous sounding response to this is that if you feel this way, you should step away from the game for a while.
I'm not saying these situations aren't painfully tedious, because they are, I but I firmly believe that if you queue up, you have some obligation to play the match out.*
Anyone who plays the this game as much as the people on this forum probably do knows what almost all the potential permutations of a match are, and if any of those are just not playable to you, don't play at all.
I for one am sick to death of teammates bailing every other match; it's not acceptable.

Nah, she has some decent add ons, imo.
A good low cost combo is the Thick Tar + Festering Carrion, which simply gives you a little more time to line up/land subsequent crow strikes.
For her greens, I like the Silver Bell, which makes survs oblivious while crows are on them. Thorny nest can also be useful.
For the purples, Severed Hands has utility, especially in the new meta where survs are more likely to team up on gens. Matias' baby shoes can function as wall hacks at loops.

Why? What's the thinking? "That'll show them"? You just look like a baby and screw over your team. I don't get it. Some people even DC on hook. That doesn't even hurt the killer at all. They still get the sacrifice points I believe.
What I really don't get are people who DC as they're being hooked for the third time, late in the game. Like, why? Do you hate BP? because it sure isn't hurting the killer, and it still feels very much much like a kill. And yes, in most cases, the game still counts it as a sacrifice.
Hell, any DC after a down/hook just feels like submission to me, so I am not sure what the motivation is. Poor impulse control?

Just use a strong chaser and you're good to go as long as you can find survivors on your own
Yeah, not really that bad a challenge.
For me, super easy as it turned out, since the first game I loaded into when going for it was against a team who wanted to farm. Not usually a fan of farming, but I took it, lol.

I would choose a few (2-3?) of the following:
Make Bloody Fingernails and/or Newspaper basekit
Remove Lullaby (this one feels necessary)
Reduce TV cooldown by at least 40% (also feels pretty necessary; 100 secs is a long time)
Make TP sound omnidirectional
Decrease manifesting time, or increase movement speed while manifsted.
Increase condemnation rate; add some impetus to take tapes. Currently like Pigs hats, but almost never activate and won't instantly kill you. So useless.
Have taking/carrying tapes inflict the exposed status (associating some risk with turning off TVs)

I think it's probably fine with the changes. I think it should take around 1 - 1.2 million BP to prestige now, which is about the same amount that it took to previously unlock all of a character's teachables. Only now it doesn't just unlock their teachables, it now instantly unlocks the perk at level 1 on everyone else so thats less bloodwebs to max the perks on other characters and those bloodwebs will be cheaper too.
And if you're the unlock everything on everyone type, it's now a lot cheaper to get the character to prestige 3, like 1.2-2 million less BP.
I think if you take the least efficient route to prestige it will now be about 1.1M, if you take the most efficient it should be between 800-900K.

I disagree. I'd like to see the new player experience to be better and not feel daunting to get the perks you need to play effectively. Plus I still think the amount of grind added with each update is unreasonable.
Well, this update certainly won't be adding to the grind.

This game simply isn't balanceable in the same way other games are, so apples to oranges there with regard to Overwatch (or pretty much any other game). If you are looking for balance here, you aren't going to find any. Ever.
And if you don't see surv complaints here, you're blind. Many days you come in here and half the front page is Nurse complaints alone. Or camping. Or tunneling. Or complaining about how much killers are complaining. People create their own echo chambers, having blind spots (seeing opinions that reflect their own as valid and logical, those in opposition as being whining, complaintive and unjustified). The whining is fairly balanced, if you look at it objectively.
And DH was in a disgusting state before; the new one is objectively much better. DH was in a broken state for years, so long that it felt like it was just part of the game. From when SBMM was introduced to when 6.1.0 dropped, killer was in a really rough state; that patch, while very much imperfect, actually moved thing closer to balance than it was before.
But yeah, solo needs help, for sure. All of the other changes have been moving the game in a good direction, the movement has just been too uneven, too staggered, creating wonky periods of adjustment. If they buff solo in some of the ways that have been discussed, the game will be in the best state it ever has been.
And ftr, I also play exclusively solo queue, hit iri 1 every reset, and have nearly as many hours in that role as you do, so not just spitballing here. I also have about 1200 hours in killer, so I feel like my perspective is fairly balanced.
-
I'll never cease to be amused by people who try to trash you because they lost, as if they somehow played better

Yeah, as a surv I have definitely prioritized doing whatever I can to crank out at least a couple gens in the early game. I've run prove thyself more than ever, and used toolboxes more than ever. I feel like we have to get down to 3-4 gens asap. If that goes fairly well (and it appears the killer hasn't brought the entire kitchen sink of slowdowns), I'll start playing normally.
That said, I still get plenty of killer interaction (I feel like every killer is running lethal pursuer nowadays, but maybe I'm just really unlucky).
-
To be fair, teammates doing dumb as hell unhooks has been a constant in solo for as long as I remember.
And I think the bump from basekit BT is probably balanced out by people not farming hooks as much since WGLF had the bonus removed.

I play on PS4 and Switch. It happens with both controllers. Other people on the forums have mentioned it happening to them, too, so it's not just me and my friend.
I changed the button binding on both systems, so thankfully I never drop a pallet when I mean to heal. That's something that can be done in the in-game settings, unless it's different with controllers on PC vs console.
Yeah, it happens on my PS controller, but it also happens on the Razer Wolverine I use on PC, and that is essentially an XBox controller.
I don't have hot dog fingers or anything, either, it usually happens if my fingers get even a little sweaty. It's an all the time thing, but it does happen.
As for the topic, sometimes tunneling is because of toxicity, but when a killer tunnels right out of the gate, it's a stretch to say that's what caused it. It's just the most effective thing you can do if you want to increase your odds of winning as a killer, which is why so many people do it, at all skill levels.

Absolutely. Being able to boon the same totem over and over is ridiculous.
I'm not a booner, but I was doing the challenge where you had to run Exponential the other night, and ran it with CoH and booned the same totem upstairs in the main building over and over again, and the game drug on waaay longer than it had any right to as a result. I was literally laughing out loud at how ridiculous it was as I was doing it.
That poor killer must have snuffed it six times.
-
I didn't play back in those days, but I definitely think having fog like that would improve the atmosphere and add something to gameplay.
As it is, the fog is essentially irrelevant, barely noticeable at its "thickest". If they aren't going to beef it back up, they might as well get rid of all the fog related items on the bloodweb, because right now they're even more useless than keys/keyrings, which are pretty damned useless.
Also now saying things like "see you in the fog" or having "fog whisperers" are kind of headscratchers. What fog?
-
If it goes down early, you didn't need it, it stays up if you did. I fail to see any problem here, much less that it was "nerfed to the ground".

Tru3 fails to see the truth, he thinks he’s the best DBD player ever.
I watch him sometimes, but he is hard to like. His appraisal of his own talent is extremely generous (he's very good, but somehow still only a fraction as good as he believes himself to be), has a huge victim complex (he only ever loses, or is even challenged, because he is facing nothing but genetically engineered and optimized DBD machines, to hear him tell it), and he diminishes other streamers by asserting that all of them are smurfing, while he is doing things the right and honorable way (no way anyone could simply be better than him).
The man is dripping with ego and self-delusion.
All that said, if people really don't like someone's content, they simply shouldn't watch or reference it, and ignore them (ignoring an egomaniac probably the most effective way of slighting them, if that's what they're going for).
There's no need to be abusive; it's never called for.
-
Make being camped the one instance of the game where proximity chat activates. If the killer is within 10 meters of the hook for too long, it activates and you can smack talk them. Make it one way so they just have to take it.
-
The problem is that when you've played enough, you're prepared for anything, and nothing is scary anymore.
Except for having pallets randomly dropped on me while I am patrolling, that s- has taken years off my life.
And scratched mirror Myers, because of the anticipation.
-
Yeah, I only have a few of the killer adepts, and don't really chase them, especially for established killers, because for most of them my MMR is high enough that I just don't want to deal with it.
The trick is to go after them right away. Now I'll take a few swings with a killer when they first drop, which is the best way to do it, imo.
With Sadako and Dredge, I think I got them in my first 2-3 games with them, because I was facing potatoes.
-
Yeah, pretty stock standard new DBD experience. The first 100 or so hours (at minimum) are going to feel very killer sided, from both perspectives. But that changes as your time in game increases and you rise in MMR.
The most important aspect of survivor gameplay is that ability of the fours surv to play together synergistically, and when you have newer players playing together, well, that isn't gonna happen much, if at all, especially in solo.
Now once you start getting teams of experienced players, who even in solo have a good idea of what is going on and what plays should be made, the calculus starts to change. SWFs, who you will rarely if ever encounter at the lowest ranks, are a whole other thing. Up until the recent patch, I would say that at higher ranks the game was actually skewed quite clearly toward survivors.
But at low ranks? Yeah, that's always gonna be a bloodbath.
And 30 hours isn't just a little in DBD, it's nothing. Might as well be 3 hours as 30, it's about the same. When I was starting out I remember hearing that about 1000 hours (per role) is where you start to get actually good at the game. It seemed absolutely absurd to me at the time, but I have found it to be true.
But one thing that is objectively true is that this game will never be balanced. It's a 4v1 with wildly different killers and matchmaking criteria that are exceedingly difficult to pin down. It's like an alphabet soup of variables, on top of the fact that we have a player pool full of people playing the game with their own agendas and ideas of what "winning" is.
So if you're looking for a game that you're going to get good at quickly and ever really get your arms around, you'd best cut your losses now.
We'll all masochists here.
-
Here's my take on why it feels like survs are more toxic than killers:
- Survs have more ways to express themselves in game than killers. Survs can teabag, gesture, macro flashlight click, etc. Killers can hit you on hook or slug you, but that's about it
- There are more survs than killers, so statistically there are going to be more of them generally, and it's 4 v 1 every game.
- They can gang up on you and take the heat off each other, which is typical of toxic/cowardly personalities, so toxic people are more likely to want to play a role that allows that. Plus they can dogpile in the postgame chat as well.
Obviously there are toxic killers, but you do see less of it than with survs, and I don't think it's really arguable.
-
Hard disagree. She's not great, but for me, I'd still rank her above Trapper, Freddy, Clown, Myers, and Legion.
That's subjective because I think I am pretty good with her, but objectively I think she is better than Trapper and Freddy (or the corpse of Freddy, to be more accurate) for sure. Against good survs, you will have work for it, though.
I get consistent kills with her more easily than with the other killers I mentioned. When I play her, I don't even really factor in condemnation unless someone stupidly lets it happen. It's too weak to plan around at all. I run Well Water + Bloody Fingernails or Newspaper + Well Water almost every time, and play the stealth/hit and run game, and like sloppy butcher a lot on her.
Or Iri videotape + well water, but you can only do that so often.
I think she's a few tweaks from B tier, honestly.
And as for the Myers discussion, I'm just considering basekit Myers, he can be alike three different killers, and I consider tombstone piece Myers to be kind of a different thing altogether.
-
Survivor - 5 or 6 - I feel like I have great game sense and almost always make the correct plays/reads, but my looping is average at best.
Killer - 6 - I'm a pretty good killer, but I play a laid back style; while I want to win, I don't sweat for it, and way too often go easy on survs. If I really dial it in (which I only really do against bully squads and cocky SWFs) I might be an 8. I'm also very hard to tilt, because I don't take it too seriously, even when being "serious".
-
When you just can't stop making more Feng cosmetics, you start putting them on other survivors as well
But seriously, I can't imagine there is.
-
Lots of people DCing or suiciding on hook even when things are going well (or at least not badly) for them, against all killers. It's all the rage these days.
-
I think there is one, but I don't think it's functioning well (if at all) right now.
Most of my killer games I'm going up against teams I legit feel bad for killing, because it's a total mismatch. Or I'm going against really, really good survs who feed me my lunch. Not much in between.
-
@Kaitsja said:
I don't think anybody is out here asking killers to "play nice". I think the bulk of complaints are that tunneling and camping are boring tactics that require no skill and only serve to push your MMR to a point where you eventually get stomped back down to where you began.
You can 4k consistently without tunneling or camping, but that's not synonymous with playing nice.
You can 4K consistently against poor/average survs while playing "nice", but against really strong teams, you're gonna have forget the rulebook sometimes if you want your kills.
I only rarely do it, and only in dire circumstances, but tunneling (provided you can quickly catch your target) is effective at every level. And since at higher levels most survs are good loopers, it does actually take some skill. If you're actually a no/low skill killer trying to tunnel against strong survs, you will lose.
-
It's absolutely a net buff. You have be more precise with his bound (in PTB you just had to bound close to them and you'd hit/grab), but everything else there is an improvement from PTB.

Hackers are the only legit reason.
-
JFC, the perk is still strong. You can still buy 90 secs if three survs are running it. Even just 30 secs is still going to heavily disincentivize camping.
And if anyone wants to assign blame anyone for this change, blame trolling survivors, because that is what the nerf is aimed at.
