@SpaceCoconut 100+ million isn't enough. Even companies with billions struggle with content/changes. Look at Anthem a game with one of the biggest publishers behind it.
Bhvrs problem is their dlc focus. They don't do changes because new chapters and cosmetics are their priority.
No time or very little to change the old when you're constantly adding new. Every 3 months they add new characters and do mid chapter updates. They're heavily time limited.
Its not anti-consumer they need more money because this ######### is expensive. DbD isn't fornite making billions. Battle pass could be the change DbD needs. Maybe they'll make 500 mil and ramp up productivity.
They would have to double their size to simultaneously change and add at the rate they do.
It depends on how they manage budget.
The previous year their revenue was estimated at $35 million. How did the quality of the game improve with that kind of funding?
Also, we can look at smaller games and dev teams who manage the changes to their games better.
The most recent example being Hide or Die and their dev choices/bugfixes.

raises eyebrow
the same players that refuse to make an investment in the game they play, so the devs don’t have the capital required to continue to improve this game?
I used to work for EB Games/GameStop for a very long time. We’d get entitled customers all the time.
“Do you know how long i’ve been a loyal customer for?!?!”
”No Gary. You’ve just come in to browse and chew our ears off over a 3 year period, and only bought 2 products over that period. That were discounted!”
Behaviour is Canada's LARGEST independent game developer. Last year BHVR's estimated annual revenue was around $107 million dollars.
https://www.zoominfo.com/c/behaviour-interactive-inc/348639696
Tell me again how the devs need my money to make the game better.
They don't NEED to implement a battlepass system to make quality improvements to the game.
It's predatory greed and I won't give my money to company that engages in such anti-consumer practices.

Yep!
I've been buying killers with shards after I was gifted The Spirit DLC. Only buying the Ghost recently since it's licensed and not available with shards.
There are a lot of issues with DBD and I refuse to give them cash whenever possible ever since their Battlepass was revealed.
This includes the amazing skins that I'd LOVE to buy... if the game were in a better state and the devs could balance the game around the higher skilled players.
The same players that have played this game long enough to become that skilled...
*sigh*
tldr; Yes.
-
Welcome to this reality.
Once upon a time people said the only change Hag needed was normal killer movement speed...
Most players who don't play or understand a specific playstyle enough will call to have it changed.
It will go on for several months if not years.
-
None.
They're there for PR purposes.
Edit: The devs just picked people. The criteria for their choices were never revealed, but the vast majority are primarily Twitch streamers.
Streamers with visibility that allows for quick dissemination of content and information to their viewers.
Fog whisperers are basically commercials.
-
Honestly the only tweaks she needs are to her addon the Waterlogged Shoe. Maybe change it so it's similar to Wraith in that her traps are immune to flashlights with the addon.
Really, everything else is fine. Just practice with her. If survivors don't move on a trap, move in and make them move to a new location with a different trap and get them there.
-
It depends on the survivors you get...
-
I was really excited about this perk when it was first announced and swiftly disappointed when the details were released.
I did this perk study when it was released and while it's better than it was, it's not as good as it could be.
It has a lot of potential, but needs one or two things to make it useful in such a way to create a really fun and interesting experience for both sides.
The conclusion and suggestions start at 13:23
-
I've always disliked killer perks that depend on the skill of survivors to a large degree.
Overcharge, Dark Devotion, Discordance, Iron Maiden and all Hexes are ones that come to mind.
Perks that rely on the user's skill are much better.
But no, a perk is not in a good state if it depends on your opponent's skill rather than your own.
-
I wish they did more cosmetic pieces like this after Bubba came to the fog. It felt really rewarding (if not a little cheap) to farm survivors for the extra faces. Especially the more rare items like Jake's face...
I don't think we'll get something like this again.
The closest is going to be through their battlepass system....
-
I kind of make it up as I go...
If I feel sorry for you, you'll get ignored or slugged.
If I want you dead, I'll sacrifice the rest of the match to accomplish that goal.
Everything else is filler :)
-
It's not about the content of the battlepass, but the predatory nature of the system.

@SpaceCoconut Considering the battlepass thing is JUST cosmetics, I think bringing it up here is a little off topic. The battlepass would just be a bonus, not something that actually affects your games.
Is it or is it not a grind?
Any time you spend grinding on the battlepass is time you aren't spending grinding for bloodpoints and perks.
As a result, increasing the original grind by that amount.
-
The devs decided that the best way to take care of the bloodpoint grind was to sell us battlepasses instead.
You can pay to grind for cosmetics instead of grinding for viable perks through hundreds of matches and millions of bloodpoints.
PS 21,700 iri shards takes about 450 matches to get as another example of a ridiculous grind built into this game.

Orion pretty much nailed it. The more places you exclude, the fewer places you need to check and the easier it is to find them as a result. The game already checks for line of sight within a certain range of where you spawn to make sure you don't spawn immediately next to a totem. If you exclude generators as well, that's a good chunk of the map that's guaranteed not to have a totem in it, leaving only a few places left to check.
Which is exactly why totem spawning isn't the right solution for the weaknesses of hex perks.
Hex: Haunted Ground was implemented to help fix this problem, but it is a lazy solution. The core of totems need to be addressed instead of requiring a perk to solve it.
The killer loses an entire perk when the totem is cleansed. A core mechanic of totems should require a similar sacrifice of the survivors to cleanse.
High Risk High Reward... for both sides.
Bandaid Perks will only cause more problems and make core issues more difficult to handle the longer the devs choose not to take care of them.
At the rate we're getting new killers and new perks for both sides, the game takes longer and longer to fix when every perk and power needs to be looked at.
It's a hole in a sinking ship and they're piling things up to plug the hole without actually fixing the hole.

Anyone else see the irony in this whiny post?
-
The thing with this topic is that both the company and individuals are at fault to some degree. People can argue how much, but it's pretty irrelevant.
Some people have the means to take advantage of other people in legal ways.
Some people willingly and unwillingly let themselves be taken advantage of.
The topic here is how far will BHVR go to take advantage of their playerbase and how many people will allow them to do so and willingly support their decisions.
Bethesda took the monetization route as well... time will tell what BHVR becomes.
Many players may not be playing their games by the time their fate becomes apparent though.

When you see predatory I see optional.
You are putting the sole blame onto the companies and nothing onto the consumer for making bad monetary decisions.
That's the same as saying anything limited edition is predatory no matter what company sells it be it a special edition game or an item of clothing as someone will always feel left out. They can chose not to spend it but when the do spend more than they can afford for something it's not their fault?
I wish I could have done that with many things I've bought in life. Sorry I felt forced to buy that last drink at the bar each time as I would have missed out before you closed.
I really dislike this modern culture where no one has to take any responsibility for their own actions as someone puts a label on it and passes the blame onto someone else.
I'd like to direct your attention to the news story about the very young and Special Needs individuals in the EU who fell victim to predatory monetization recently with your statement.
While there's some truth to what you say, there is also truth to what I'm saying and the stories from my truth should make any normal person question some monetization practices.
-
When it comes down to it, the core issue I have a problem with is the predatory nature of some monetization systems.
The current cosmetics shop isn't predatory since the items are available permanently and some are available through shards. I feel no pressure to obtain any skins.
The incoming battle pass does have a predatory nature with the time limited availability meant to take advantage of players who are susceptible to these kinds of tactics. Along with the assumption that the pass won't be purchasable with iri shards, it makes for a system that doesn't reward players for grinding in the game, but punishes them for not paying for the premium grind.
The point I was making about netease is that any monetization system that comes up in DbD mobile may come to the main game, which I can't imagine is a good thing for us as consumers.
Also, the profitability of the mobile gaming market is also it's biggest problem. I don't know of a single game that doesn't have some form of predatory monetization. This is also part of the reason many countries are looking into these systems to see what regulation may be necessary for it.
The fact that BHVR is implementing these systems focusing on the money rather than the customer experience shows me that we as players of their game are only as valuable as our wallets.
It's just an opinion, but one that many share.

"The gameplay has been the same for upwards of 3 years with little to no change except EGC."
Some very fundamental things have changed. If we went back to some of the 2016 stuff, you guys would freak out! :D
Totems (and therefore Hex Perks) did not exist until the Hag shipped. Hook sabotage used to be permanent (man I can't even imagine what that must have been like).
There are other fundamentals that have changed. The EGC is certainly more obvious a change as it's really in your face, but many less obvious things have changed that greatly impacted the general play of the game.
:)
Survivors still run in circles from pallet to pallet.
Survivors still have a single objective.
Problems that killers have with gameplay are bandaid fixed and sold as DLC perks.
Balance is decided by people who do not know enough about the game to make balance decisions.
Core issues with the game have not been addressed since its beginning.
I could go on, but it's getting old and always falls on deaf ears.
Superficial changes have been made, but outcry over core issues remain and ignored.
Instead of fixing the grind, let's create a new one with the incoming BattlePass....
-
If both of the winners have amazing art we'll know that those of us with limited artistic ability shouldn't bother entering next time orz
I guess we'll find out lol

I saw his video too...
A toggle to turn it off and on would be ideal. There have been quite a few times where I've missed hits thanks to this "feature"

Huntress and Freddy say hello.
Edit: Forgot about Plague and Ghost.
-
I would make a joke, but I'd probably get banned.
-
Whatever the community seems to agree on for the most part will largely be ignored by the devs while they implement changes that will lessen the effectiveness of killers.
We've all seen it before.
The people in charge of balance can barely play the game and they don't bother genuinely gathering and listening to the advice of the playerbase as a whole.
I'm ready for more nerfs, but I'll enjoy him as he is in the PTB until they nerf him.
His snares need buffs though. Hindered isn't strong enough to make a difference during a chase and setting snares takes too long. Shorten it to 2 seconds like the Hag and Trapper for ease of use and increase the hindered effect to make it very dangerous to pass through a snare.
#notgonnahappen
-
I honestly think that they BELIEVE that they aren't biased and are completely blind or indifferent to the deeper problems that cause most of the issues all players have with dbd.
I also think that it might be too late to change anything.
Their design philosophy has painted them into a corner by using perks as bandaid fixes to core problems. If they fix those core problems, many perks and powers will need to be revamped and changed. The cost effectiveness of that kind of change won't be something they'd be willing to do for the players.
But they'll make damn sure the battlepass works perfectly when it comes out and if doesn't, it'll be fixed within days.
/rant
tldr; Yes they are, but they don't know it.

How many people are going to fall for the bait by a fresh account when this post is their very first?
We have 3 so far lol

While everyone is talking about the cash cost, did you know it takes about 50 hours worth of matches (450 ish matches) to earn 21,700 iri shards for an ultra rare cosmetic?
I'm still grinding for the new hag skin with shards I've been saving since they've been implemented. Only spending them to buy DLC when available...
The grind is absurd.
-
Are you playing so you have more fun than frustration or do you prioritize the fun of others over your own?
I use NoED so I don't have to worry about gens being finished quickly since I know that if they rush without doing totems then I get a chance to come back.
If I sacrifice them all before NoED becomes active then I successfully defeated them with a handicap of 3 perks.
If they activate the last gen and NoED doesn't activate then they thoroughly defeated me and it's a gg.
Worry about your own fun. Because no one else prioritizes your fun over their own.

It may if enough do it, it's still a large portion of the userbase.
Say 300k players come into the game each day and around 20% are in the 3 and 4 man bracket.
So around 48k playing in those squads.
That would take 12k killer needed to opt in out of the 60k that is quite a lot in reality.
Daily peak is around 23-25k so work with those numbers instead.
Also, there's no way of estimating what percentage of killer players will opt out when given the chance. Some players enjoy the challenge.
It also might be more accurate to measure the matches themselves rather than the number of groups at any given time.
A match has 1 killer and 4 survivors. Everyone else will sit in a queue until there are enough people so they shouldn't exactly be a part of the calculation.
-
I would also like to add in this case that these stats also show that splitting the playerbase would be insignificant when allowing killers to opt out of playing against 3 and 4-man groups.
THE DEV DATA DOESN'T LIE
Let us Opt out since the number of groups won't greatly impact the playerbase in a negative way.
*Unless the data is incorrect or skewed for some reason...*
-
The number of pallets is definitely an issue. The devs can "say" they're fixing the safe/unsafe distribution but we'll see what the result is when it's actually implemented.
For now, this is why I prefer playing the hag. I like trapping the pallets which can end a loop before it gets out of hand.
It's not always reliable, but it's better than relying on a perk combo to fix a game balance issue.

@Blueberry For the majority of Players now yes, for people who have stuck with him since his beginnings like me, no.
I can 3k-4k with him pretty often, and even if I 1k-2k which is rare with him at Red Ranks, I still come out with like 27k because of how much profit he can give you.
He's Mid-Tier, but in the right hands he CAN be Top-Tier, sadly... This USED to be true, now he's a solid Mid-Tier Killer with some Aspects of a Top-Tier Killer that still show in some games.
While no one is ignoring your skill with the Legion, how often was it his power that made those wins for you?
Could you accomplish the same with minimal use of his power or even without the use of his power at all?
I'd be willing to bet that the impact of his power is negligible compared to your personal skill as a killer in those wins you've highlighted.

Hag
With the right trap placement she can be everywhere at any time.
(Not all Hag clips, but the majority are :)

There's no way of knowing for sure until the devs implement a marker for SWF groups in the tally screen.

@DingDongs Welcome to the club!

@Boss said:
Well SpaceCoconut, what are your thoughts on the idea by now?
@Boss lol I forgot I made this thread.
I see a lot of ranting and railing and personal attacks which is pretty normal for a thread like this.
Not many people are actually discussing the timer change which I thought was pretty fair. No mods or devs have chimed in either way so it's just become a den of frenzied bias.
People suggest slugging, but people hate slugging.
People suggest keeping track of the time, but it's not possible to do in the heat of a match as a killer, especially during
There are always alternative solutions to problems through gameplay choices, but when those choices hinder fun gameplay for both sides then the core problem should be looked at.
A reduction of 5-10 seconds on the timer would be enough for survivors trying to escape to be able to do so if the killer isn't tunneling.
Survivors deliberately using the timer to their advantage would be problematic, but would only get one use out of the perk that way.
I dunno.
People can't have discussions anymore. It's all name calling and ranting without considering the bigger picture.
-
The same thing when they "fixed" the flashlight and pallet stuns during the Year of the Dog Lunar Event.
Fixes no one asked for, no one needed, and deliberately breaks something that was just fine.
If you couldn't tell you were stunned when you saw the pallet drop, heard the pallet drop, you heard the killer groan, you stared at the ground, and you couldn't move a red flash of light certainly wasn't going to help you.
REMOVE IT It's unnecessary, redundant and obnoxious.
-
@Blueberry said:
I hope not, he still isn't even that strong. He still needs buffs imo
I actually don't agree with this.
I think he's pretty strong and when someone practices their strategy and gains perks to help that strategy he's going to be very strong.
The only thing I think they'll end up nerfing will be his ability to stalk during a chase.
https://youtu.be/1KnaO3K0s54 -
The deadline is listed in the pinned post in the cosmetic contest forum.
I think it's the 18th or 20 something.
-
The achievement is doable. I almost did it once but messed up at the end.
The problem is the state of DCs and how they will automatically cause you to fail the achievement and lose the ULTRA RARE addons.
Not sure what could be done, but hopefully when the new DC regulations get put into place, they'll be tough enough to make these DC's a thing of the past.
Survivors might still sac themselves on the hook, but that shouldn't impact this achievement.
-
We all know this feeling very well. Right now rank doesn't mean anything in regards to player skill. It's just a measure of how often a player completes a specific task within a match. Some of which are completely out of the player's control... Excellent design as always.
https://youtu.be/xTCqtN08i4I -
She's actually in a really good place right now.
The only things that need to be adjusted in my opinion are the Waterlogged Shoe and the Scarred Hand. Maybe the Mint Rag...
But everything else is pretty solid with her.
-
BHVR needs to start balancing with skilled players in mind.
-
This is actually the topic of my next video lol
3 Hag matches with some pretty good plays by me and not so good plays by them.
Every single one was a Brutal win.
They system is being changed thankfully, but I'm really not excited to find out what the devs decide that new system should score us.
-
I don't have time to be picky with my games because of my very limited available playtime. Those SWF matches can be really rough though.
It would be nice to know if we went against a group at the end of a match though. I don't see the harm in letting players see the groups in that case.

Schrodinger's Phantasm: Down X Survivors within 8 meters of an active Phantasm that you can teleport to as the Hag.
Deadly Statue: Down X Survivors without reaching full movement speed as the Spirit.
No Escape: Catch X Survivors in a trap within X seconds of them escaping another trap as the Trapper.
