Hey. Cleansing totems is important.
Lots of games you should have won are lost to NoEd.

Obvious sarcasm dude. Check your sarcasm detector it's obviously not working.
That said, what he said isn't entirely wrong. Pig is like Hag. Only the dedicated mains play them. These are killers who have been playing the game for years when Pig wasn't as bad as he is today and have mastered her game play. I almost never escape from a pig player. My batting average against them is like 1 out of 10 games. Pig players are above my level of skill in general .

I don't remember much about my early killer games. I started playing DbD because of Tru3talent, so I emulated a lot of what he did.
My early survivor games were super fun. Survivors were actually scared of the killer, and practically everyone played immersed. I miss those days.
Yeah, the game was a lot more fun back then. People were still stealthing and avoiding the killer, the maps were actually dark and you could actually hide from the killer.
-
My first match was as Nea, running Urban Evasion. :D My friend had just got the game and invited me to play. He was using Claudette, who he read was the strongest character to use for Self Care.
I don't remember who we fought. This was back in 2017 so my memory is hazy. But I remember that we died. Our second match we also died. We escaped on our third match.

While all of us would like to think that a boycott would work, it won't.
I really hate how BHVR's pride makes them so stubborn in these situations, but that's how the company rolls.

In my solo Q games experience, a lot of the kill rate come from survivors making mistakes or throwing the game. And then it just snowball out of control. All it takes is 1 hook suicide or 1 terribly executed rescue to give the killer massive pressure for free.
I'm by no mean a great survivor and I do make mistakes too. But some of the teammates I've had truly have no clue what they are doing or don't care about the consequences and are too eager to blame the killer for camping or tunneling when they are the ones to blame for serving them a perfect opportunity on a platter.
There are some really good killers out there that don't need big mistakes from the survivors to kill everybody, but I'm less afraid of running into them than I am of running into clueless or selfish teammates.
The game should really be better at highlighting the survivors mistakes during the game and at the end screen too. Killer's too, probably. But a killer's mistakes are his own problem. Survivors mistakes kill their teammates.
Not making mistakes isn't easy.
Most people will make mistakes.
That applies to both survivors at killers, even at red ranks. A lot of Killers here like to pretend that killer can't be won unless survivors make mistakes. They seem to think that they don't make mistakes and the game is unfair and survivor-sided and the only reason they can ever win is because survivors are making mistakes. This is a laughable argument to be honest.
The reality is killers tend to make more mistakes than survivors per game on average. Why? Because killers play 4x as much compared to a survivor. That should be obvious because there are 4 survivors and only one killer. The killer interacts with all four survivors and has much more opportunity to make mistakes. While a survivor will be holding down M1 at a gen at some point of the game doing nothing but that, the killer is always on the chase or hunting down a survivor. Killers do a lot more in this game, but that also means killers have a lot more room to make mistakes.
Fact of the matter is a lot of the time I escape because the killer made mistakes. And these mistakes aren't always obvious from the point of view of the killer. If the killer patrolled a gen and didn't find anyone and left, that was a mistake on his part because actually I was crouching behind a corner avoiding him and waiting for him to leave. That is a mistake made by the killer, and it's one that let me finish a gen to win the game. But the killer was 100% unaware that he even made a mistake.
If you aren't making mistakes in your play you'd be a grandmaster at the game.
There are nurses out there who make very few mistakes. Most survivors can't win against these players they are just so good at tracking and chases, and there is no defense.

I get what you're saying but you're missing my point.
My point was that his terminology was implying that there's a problem with solo queue balance, rather than an issue with teammates or his own skill level.
IE the implied reason for the results is my issue.
I also think that the way you phrase this is that it takes some really high skill level to carry on survivor in these solo queue games and I don't think the requirement is that high. The bar is actually way too low currently imo.
The reality of the game disagrees with you.
If the bar to carry were as low as you say, most survivors should be able to loop the killer consistently for minutes. The fact that that doesn't happen means that the bar is actually pretty high.
You can't argue with the actual state of the game and the facts and actual kill rates of the game. I know a lot of players like to invalidate BHVR's statistics and call them worthless, but the state of the game is how it is because it is.
Like I said, you're so good at the game that you can't even understand that the game is actually hard for a lot of people. Majority of survivors escaping 75% of the time like in your case is far from normal.

If the killer is using a vpn then yes. because that is the only way to get a ping high enough to do that.
Not true. This happens more than you think. Like how you can get hit by the killer through a window despite having run several steps away already.
This is a common occurence and happens all the time.

i have had multiple games where the survivor just sat there as i walked up to them and just happily completed the gen while i attempt to grab them. It isn't a one off occurrence.
Dedicated servers might be the cause, but like sitting under the hook while slugged, it is being abused willingly.
Most good survivors will take a hook to complete a gen. Survivors only need to complete 5 gens, but there are 12 hook states between all survivors. It is more than beneficial to get caught by the killer if you can finish a gen, so if the gen is almost done a good surivor will keep working on it hoping to complete it before you yank them off or hit them.
This is not abuse, this is good strategy.
Try playing survivor for a while and tell me if hitting survivors through windows doesn't feel killer-sided, or dropping and vaulting palettes doesn't feel killer-sided, or dodging huntress hatchets doesn't feel killer-sided. You'll change your tune pretty quickly if you play the other side as well.
-
@Zozzy said:
Why is this still in the game?
Survivors have figured out how to exploit the lag from grabs to the point where i just attempted to grab a claudette off a gen while she completed it in my face 3 times.
I would attempt to grab, the animation starts and then abruptly haults. All while the survivor seems to be making progress on the generator.
Before you say to just hit them, the time it takes to wipe the blade is enough time to finish off the generator in the situations where you want to grab them.
Dude.
Latency issues are a problem for everyone not just Killer.
You're only basing this off your experience, obviously you only play killer, not realizing that Survivors also have to put up with latency problems all the time, especially with things like Huntress hatchets, vault hit registration, etc.
This is not survivor-sided this is just the reality of internet gaming.
-
Well you're not wrong.
1000 hours is just the "entry point" in this game. Anything under 1,000 hours you're practically still an infant.
It takes an insane amount of skill and experience to get good at this game. It looks simple, but because it's so simple mastery takes a lot.
You have to realize that you are not meant to be looping the killer for minutes on end in this game. That can happen if you get lucky but usually chases should end in around 30 seconds. If you can consistently loop the killer for more than a minute each time you are a grand master survivor already.

I mean, NOED is problematic in its current form. I don't think it's too much to ask for a rework where it's still powerful but not stupidly so / rewarding you for doing quite literally nothing all match.
I don't even use it because of how dirty it feels to use lol I don't think it should ever be nerfed into the dirt but it would be cool if it was reworked in such a way that it wasn't toxic to use it. Kind of like how I wish keys could be used for aura reading without making killers activate their fight or flight.
I think NoEd is perfectly fine. The game needs a catchup mechanic for the killer.

I honestly think slugging is way more fun and smooths out the game's pacing problem. Dbd has all of the proper horror elements but lacks the time to emphasize them. I find that utilizing slugging grants a number of benefits to everyone and improves match quality.
1. Extends game time
2. Guaranteed to occupy the survivor for a set period and a 2nd survivor to pick them up
3. Grants survivors more chances
4. Grants killer more chases
5. Denies irritable scenarios; camping, ds, bad saves, left on hook, 1st hook suiciders
So forget the hooks and let the entity finds its own sacrifices.
Slugging is only fun for killers.
I assure you survivors don't enjoy it at all.
That's why Unbreakable is a meta perk.
Slugging is a powerful strategy and works really well. Killers should do it if they want to win, to be honest. But I still hate getting slugged unless I happened to bring an anti-slug build.

No, I get lots of bad teammates. The reason it works is because I get the killers attention and loop for the team. You know how to carry in other words.
"Even you should know, that your survival of 75% of your games in solo Q, has to be an exception, as it would change the numbers in the stats dramatically. Consider yourself lucky :)"
You're missing my point. My point is not that this is the average. My point is that if I'm doing it than so can y'all, and if you're not able to on average that you may also be the weak link.
My point is also that by your original post you seem to be pushing the match results as out of your control and solely because you get bad teammates. IE you give yourself very little agency.
No, not everyone can do it.
You are a gifted player and good at the game. Not everyone is at your skill level. This isn't hard to understand, but it may be too hard for geniuses to get. Geniuses are so far removed from the realm of mortal man that their standards are completely skewed.
75% survival solo q rate is ridiculously good and maybe only 1% of the playerbase can achieve that.
There's a reason why the kill rate is what it is. Most players aren't as good as you are.
-
100% solo Q survivor here. Well 99.99%, every now and then I have a friend who asks to play with me. Very, very rare (only two of them and they stopped playing this game a long time ago).
Unfortunately I haven't been in yellow and green for years since they changed how reset works.
I a purple every now and then here but I'm mostly in the reds.
But in general my survival rate is the same across all ranks. Not much difference to be honest. How much I was getting killed back when I was a newb in the gray and yellow ranks hasn't changed much now that I'm in red.
Sometimes my team and I steam roll a killer at red. That happened too in purple, green, yellow and even gray. More often the killer kills most of us and only 1 or 2 escape, or all of us get killed.
The only difference beteween my experience at red ranks and yellow/gray, is that now sometimes I can carry the match by running the killer around for a minute. I could never do that back when I was in gray ranks.

@HellDescent said:
There's a difference between trying and actively playing. Killer is easier and survivor is harder in lower ranks. Then in high ranks it becomes the complete opposite. Survivors will not waste resources anymore, know tiles and totem spots etc. Meanwhile killer has to rely on survivors making mistakes in order to catch them
Same is true the other way around though. Survivors have to rely on killers making mistakes to avoid, juke or escape from them. Both sides capitalize on mistakes the other side makes. Survivors generally cannot escape from a nurse or huntress that doesn't make mistakes, for instance. The skill ceiling is just a lot higher for killers than it is for survivors.

Self-professed noob killer here...about 150 hours as killer. Finally decided to try survivor yesterday. That was a ######### nightmare. I had teammates all the way up to red ranks (level 19-20 survivor myself), but never faced a killer higher than rank 14. I personally was never camped or tunneled. How the hell do new survivors make this work? I'm not good, but even I know to get your teammates off the hook before they die.
And people say this game is survivor-sided.

Tinkerer is fine.
Your pain point with the 2-Survivors remaining with nearly insurmountable odds (sans one of you getting caught and dying on Hook to open Hatch), is something I think needs to be looked at.
Same with Killer and having like 4 gens done before you get a few Hooks in.
I've seen many killers turn around a 4K even without a single hook by the time 4 gens are done. The game has catchup mechanics.
- For survivors it's the hatch.
- For killers it's NoEd and Bloodwarden in endgame builds -- though yeah Pig Endgame Build got nerfed as an unfortunate casualty.
I don't think it needs to be looked at any further, aside from not nerfing these options any further. If anything I think killers need a more baseline method to have endgame catch up ability other than needing to bring in perks to do it.

Damn, than I've been doing it all wrong all the time because I never run iron will.
I was wondering why I escaped so much against her 😂
There is much you can do against her, the only problem a lot of people make is that they keep doing the exact same thing over and over again.
And then complain, reeee spirit has no counter play reee.
Mix things up and get in the head of spirit and you'll do fine.
Yes she is hard, but nowhere near as OP as many say.
She is only OP if you refuse to adapt to a different playstyle.
just as with ruin/undying, you need to adept and approach things a bit differently.
But unfortunately many lack the skill to adept or refuse it (or both), and than whine about perks and killers being OP.
Do tell us how to outplay a Spirit then, oh God of Survivors. I am sure you got this game all figured out and have a 100% escape rate with perkless survivors.

Mandy, with 2 survs only remaining in the game and tinkerer you can't finish a gen. Don't you think this is a problem?
It's fine you can make a play for the hatch.
Most of the time when there's only two survivors left you are going to die anyway without the hatch. The only time you have a chance of winning with just two survivors left is if there's only one gen left, one survivor is already working on it and the killer gets looped by the other. Tinkerer doesn't change this much other skew it a bit more in favor of the killer a bit by letting know when to drop a chase and defend the gen if so inclined.
If there's two survivors left and two or more gens left I generally accept that I'm going to die, unless I fished a key earlier in the match. You're basically dead, unless the killer is totally incompetent (but he wouldn't be if he got two kills). It's okay the killer outplayed you that match accept your loss and move on.

It's niche, right now it's just extra powerful because you can combine it with Ruin/Undying on fast, already-powerful killers. The combo is painfully boring for survivors, who get next to nothing done and can't stop it because of the stupid hexes, but makes a world of difference for killers you can see and hear coming from a mile away, like Billy. Almost no one used to use it.
You think it's bad on its own, I met a Bubba who combined it with Trail of Torment. Between the two of them, he was undetectable for half the match and I wanted to slap him through the computer screen.
I've gone up against those too. Super annoying. Like I always say. Killers are better at stealth in this game than survivors are.
-
@Trashmaster said:
Toolboxes, use them
LOL toolboxes have been crap for a long time now. And no I'm not using Built to Last to get a smidgen more value out of them.
I think you'll find Tinkerer isn't as much of a problem when Undying is gone from the equation. Tinker/Ruin is still pretty strong though even without Undying, IMO.
-
I wouldn't say it's OP. Just a little overtuned.
It's generally not a big problem unless you're up against an instadown killer like Leatherface. Tinkerface is so annoying to fight. High mobility killers are problematic too but not in a way that is oppressively annoying.
I do agree though if there's just two of you left forget it may as well just hide in a locker and play for the hatch. You are never going to get another gen done.
-
Turning off crossplay is a mistake. The queue time gets worse when you turn off crossplay.
That said, I haven't had your problem. most of the people I go up against are Steam players. Must be a regional thing. I am guessing NA has a bigger console DBD population.

And you know how to easy 4K on Midwich? Use Bloodwarden, I'd be surprised if you didn't get 4Ks. Nobody's getting out, as long as you aren't totally outclassed by the survivor team. I know it's getting and update but I doubt itbwill do anything grand to quench my hate for this map.
Gideon's isn't that bad. I actually like this map even though statistically it's supposedly killer-sided. I have a lot of fun playing matches in this map.
The worst maps for each side are different. For Killer the worst map is probably Lampkin Lane. For Survivor it's Shelter Woods.
For a map both sides hate, it's probably Midwich.

Okay. I just started playing the game after taking around a week off.
Now I get why there are more Spirit topics (well not really there's not that much). A lot more people are playing Spirit again. I just had 6 matches 3 of them were Spirit. The other 3 were a Blight, a Huntress and a PH. I am guessing that killers are dusting off their Spirit game now that Undying is on the way out. (or because Undying is now going to work better with Devour Hope).

I like Open Handed so much I chose it to be my avatar :P
Bond doesn't benefit other people. It benefits you.
If you want to help other people play cooperatively you run Kindred and Aftercare.
I have had killers accuse us of being SWF multiple times because I run these two perks along with Blood Pact. The amount of information you give your teammates is invaluable.
The build I have on Dwight is Aftercare, Kindred, Blood Pact and Iron Will. It is a super good build. Doesn't look like much and your survivor fundamentals need to be good as you have no defenses other than Iron Will. But If your team isn't absolute trash they really play much better with the info you give them.

As a solo survivor, IMO information is king. So my (almost unchanging) build since Descend Beyond has been Bond, Leader, Open Handed, Visionary. (BTW I can’t wait for the Open Handed buff).
I was just in a match on Mother’s Dwelling where there was just this beautiful synergy between every single one of us. Other random survivors were coming to the same gen as the one I’m working on, whenever I’m healing someone (or someone else healing me), another survivor would run in and healing would be done super quick, no single chase was ever taken towards a gen being worked on, or past another survivor. No unsafe saves occurre at all whatsoever. I could see what was happening and make good judgment calls, and everybody else seemingly always knew where I was. It was just a fantastic match with great team work, and nobody screwing anybody else over.
In the post match results I saw that all the other 3 survivors were running T3 Bond as well, one of them had Kindred, another had WoO, and another had Plunderers.
It felt really good to be in a match where Open Handed provided a real boost to everyone, not just my own build.
Was lucky everyone was running bond.
Has never happened for me. You could announce this at start of match but it gets tiring doing so each match.
Survivors should be allowed to see each other's load out. Might be unfair though for killer but that decreases the gap between swf and solo imo.
It might also causes bickering before the match even starts. I bet some toxic players will criticize you for bringing a junk build (and I do that all the time)
I still think the best "swf solo" build is something that includes Aftercare and Kindred.
-
For sure. There's a right way to reveal him and a wrong way. But often even when you do it right and he's right there in plain view it won't. It's really wonky. That isn't even debatable frankly.
I am sure some of it has to do with server latency as well. Doesn't change that it's very, very inconsistent.
-
@AetherBytes said:
Itll be fixed when its broken. To reveal ghostface you cant be too close or too far, and 33% of him needs to be visible
Do you play survivor much?
Obviously not if you think GF detection mechanics are fine. They've been broken since release and often you will reveal him accidentally when you aren't even trying. Sometimes you didn't even know he was there you were working on a gen and he gets revealed accidentally.
And often you see him and try to break him out but it just won't catch on.
GF reveal mechanics have been incredibly inconsistent since he came out and have never been fixed.
@EvanSnowWolf said:
Yeah, there are conditions. Trust me, it works just fine. When I play Ghostface I get spotted CONSTANTLY.
Playing as Ghost Face tells you nothing. You don't know what the survivor was doing when he revealed you. It's when you play Survivor that you see how badly inconsistent it is.
This isn't about it being impossible to reveal Ghost Face. This is about how inconsistent it is.

How would they rework it though in a way that is balanced though? I can only imagine what BHVR can come up with. If they only make it work better with dedicated servers, it will not fix anything.
DH doesn't need a nerf. It just needs to be made consistent with latency. Same as Huntress hatchets and other stuff that feel like they screw you over due to latency.
Why do you think Dead Hard being usable more than once per match is problematic? It's a exhaustion perk. Should all exhaustion perks only be usable once per match?
-
Is there really an uptick in Spirit whines?
I don't see any on the front page right now.
Spirit whining was all the rage from around 2018 to 2019. You could barely click on a topic here back then which wasn't about Spirit being OP. It's why she got nerfed.
This really is all cyclical. Around the same time frame everyone else who wasn't whining about Spirit was also whining about DS. Then it also got nerfed.
-
So sick of seeing nothing but "nerf DS" threads day in and day out, and apparently this board is full of nothing but whiny Survivor players and Survivors dictate the game. Funny that.
-
Off the Record doesn't work when you are unhooked in the killer's face or in his line of sight. It's not an alternative per se.
That's when DS is required, or BT from your teammate.
-
I won't deny that some have more than others.
But right now every killer is more than capable of doing well at Rank 1.
-
People get tired/bored of playing a game sooner or later. Is normal. It's normal to take breaks and come back to the game later.
Some people like to say it's because they are fed up with the game's developers not listening to the community. Bollocks to that. Developers don't need to listen to the community, especially one as whiny and entitled as this one. It's a nice thing, but more important is for developers to maintain their vision of a game and bring it to fruition.
Don't worry someday the devs will have a brain fart and do a teddy bear chapter. Until then the rest of us will be happy they don't.
-
All killers have potential.
I have seen strong Demo and Pig players at Rank 1 that decimate survivor teams.
Also what's this about survivors only being able to puzzle boxes when RBT'd? That's not true. I've seen many survivors work on gens while RBT'd and still escape at the end. I have also escaped with an RBT on my head on several occasions and that was both before and after the EGC nerf.

I mean...unbreakable exists and it's literally one of the strongest perks in the entire game and can completely reverse entire matches against a slugging killer. Paired with DS it's possibly the strongest 2 perks in the entire game.
Why should there be a counter to a killer just...winning a game?
You're talking like it's a balance problem when you just don't like laying on the ground doing nothing, which is understandable- but if the solution is more counter measures to the killer that is exahasterbating a new problem, not solving yours.
None of the survivor perks are "strongest perks in the game."
Killer has at least 7 perks which are much stronger. Survivor perks are in general significantly weaker than killer perks.
-
We have three countermeasures for slugging. They are: Unbreakable, Soul Guard and No Mither.
The first is good but works only once. The second is good but only if you didn't bust the Ruin. The last is amazing except it turns you into a Tunnel magnet and loses the game for you.
On the whole, we need more Anti Tunnel, Anti Slug and Anti Camp options.
