That would be a great way to go around it - to be able to check off the individual platforms
Queues are an awful lot more complicated than what you are suggesting here. This would be neither great nor functional.
-
@Ikalx FOV has gameplay implications in many multiplayer games, but that doesn't keep developers from including it as an option. It is, perhaps, an unfortunate reality that not everyone can enjoy it in the same way. But player comfort and accessibility should come first.
Imagine what the reception would be if they finally added colorblind options, but in the form of equippable perks for each type of colorblindness. Wouldn't that seem a little stupid to ask some players to sacrifice a huge part of their core build options (an entire perk slot) just to be able to experience the game comfortably?

Welp you can jump on YouTube and find a ton of videos of people hacking and ruining dbd matches.
I really not want the same scandal that modern warfare has currently.
People asking for a feature to opt out is not that big of a deal and you have no say in the matter.
Someone tag a dev so we can get an answer
YouTube can make a lot of things look more prevalent than they really are. I haven't gone looking, but I assume there are probably like, hacker compilation videos and stuff that make it seem like a huge problem. And I'm absolutely not defending hackers at all, it's a real concern but my experience is that Behaviour does a good job of getting rid of them.
I suspect there will be some sort of opt-out option, a la the current one for Steam and Windows Store cross-play, but that's also likely to saddle you in a far more anemic queue.
Also, Peanits weighed in with the community manager perspective a few posts up.

Pc has hackers so I do not super duper disagree.
Seeing how convoluted the report feature is I really do not want to spend 15 mins to report a hacker when I could just opt out of playing with them.
I get it the master race wants us to be forced to play with them but no thanks I would rather play with other console owners or have a check box as to what systems I want to choose to play with.
Pc bad no pc.
I've played this game for 1700 hours on PC and I've never, to my knowledge, encountered a hacker. I know this is anecdotal, but it's not like they're around every corner. It's certainly not a rampant enough problem to hobble an entire major feature addition.
-
No, please change all second hooks to auto-struggle with no option for a player to suicide.
-
Super-disagree. Keeping them separate would defeat the entire idea of cross-play. The whole point is to improve queues.

Not really, when you're playing "hide and seek with death, the game".
Field of view is critically important in such a game where hiding is core gameplay.
Honestly that's just arguing in bad faith, you didn't even try.
I would say you are proving the argument that it should just be a setting that the user can control. This is a normal, accepted thing in video games in 2020. I know people who cannot play games with certain FOV settings because it makes them nauseous. Broad player accessibility should always take priority over some edge-cases tryhards.
-
It's just people being dumb. Chase them out, say gg, and move on.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

This should just be a Dwight costume.
-
For real though, I want a Night of the Creeps chapter. MAKE IT HAPPEN, BEHAVIOUR.
-
Plenty of people saw this coming, insofar as it has been subject to requests/guesses/speculation for a long time. Same can be said for Hellraiser, It, Friday the 13th, Candyman, Chucky, the Babadook, Mandy, Leprechaun, Cabin in the Woods, The Ring, The Grudge, Lost Boys, Maniac Cop, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, Zombieland, Resident Evil, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, What We Do in the Shadows, Scooby Doo, Slenderman, Jeff the Killer, and Harvey Weinstein.
Anything you can think of has been suggested or speculated.
-
My charitable advice is that trophy-chasing in any multiplayer game is going to inevitably lead to this kind of frustration, because these kinds of unreasonable goalposts are everywhere. DBD has some absolutely awful ones. Your best bet is to try to convince a survivor group to let you farm them.

Thats necause you havent played long enough to meet us
To be fair, I'm a consistent red/purple-rank survivor with (as stated up above) 1,700 hours in-game, and I almost never meet Leatherface players who aren't campers. It's gotten to the point where I automatically assume that if Leatherface takes you to the basement, you are as good as dead because he will camp. I am proven right about 95% of the time.
-
I don't get it. Are you laying out a perfectly pedestrian scenario as a defense for disconnecting because of your poor choices? Because, I mean, you disconnected. Yes, you're part of the problem in this scenario.
Also, re: "Most of you would do it" -- I have 1,700 hours in-game on my Steam record, and I have literally never decided to disconnect from a match, not once. I would not do that, regardless of whether or not there is a penalty.
-
It's crazy to think that they would make a specific killer, 1 of 20, to counter exactly 1 of 80 perks. It's not a counter when the game's roulette wheel is that big. You can't reliably counter anything in this kind of environment.
The cage skips all "on hook" effects, and more importantly it saves pickup and transport time. Time is the killer's most precious resource, and I would guess that this would open the Executioner up to some good, aggressive play.

I have and now it's started to download but it wouldn't download at all when I was trying to do this like hours ago.
When were you trying? Steam is down for maintenance for a brief window every Tuesday afternoon around 3:00 or 4:00 Pacific time.

I've tried to do what it says for that link but it doesn't work. It tries to download dead by daylight on steam but it doesn't download.
You've gone into the Beta tab, selected public-test from the dropdown menu, and restarted Steam?
-
Can the entire survivor cast just be rolled into this system? Just one big perk and item library? It would make the game way less of a pain, in terms of having access to perks and stuff.

THERE WERE SOOO MANY BETTER OPTIONS WHYYY
People would be saying this no matter what the reveal was. You can't make everyone happy.
Also, Silent Hill is absolutely a classic, in terms of horror video games. The only long-running horror franchise that could hold a candle to it, in terms of how beloved it is among fans, is Resident Evil. DBD's box doesn't need to be so narrow as to only encompass movies and TV shows; video games have strong licenses that should be explored, and there's no reason not to embrace that. Also, remember that the second licensed content for DBD came from Left 4 Dead!

We need more male survivors. In a row we have gotten Nancy and Steve then yui then zarina and now Cheryl/heather. We need more males there aren’t a lot of female killers so the gender dumb thing shouldn’t be a real thing just a thing inside the brain of a very questionable youtuber.
Survivors are now 50/50, including the new chapter. That's pretty cool, hopefully it stays that way.
-
I'd say it's nice that the male-to-female survivor ratio is now 50/50, and I assume that was part of what drove their choice.
-
Some life advice, for going against Leatherface: If he stands there revving his chainsaw, or he hooks someone in the basement, don't go after them. They are dead, the end. Just go do gens. Your base assumption 100% of the time should be that a Leatherface player is a camper.

i mean, the Silent Hill chapter is not the first licensed content from different horror games put into DbD.
Dont forget they have added Bill from Left 4 Dead in the past, who himself is very much licensed and from a game.
Yeah, I wasn't even thinking about this, derrrrr. And he was a really early one, too -- only Halloween predates Bill in terms of licensed content.
-
100%!!! It doesn't get too much more iconic as horror game franchises go, along with Resident Evil (and I'd love a chapter with Mr. X/Nemesis and Claire/Leon/Hunk/Tofu/whoever).

I'm not complaining. It's just so wild to imagine, idk, the Ghostface on Silent Hill map stabbing Nancy from Stranger Things.
Not much different than an Animal Crossing character in an F-Zero car speeding through a Zelda map in Mario Kart. 😄
-
plz nerf September killer thx, too op
-
Also: What about any other medium? What if there was, I dunno, a Dracula chapter? Or some sort of Cthulhu-themed chapter? Or the It chapter that everyone wants, whose source material is a novel? I think those would be fair game, too.
-
Silent Hill is no less a classic in its medium than Halloween, Friday the 13th, and A Nightmare on Elm Street are in theirs. The box doesn't have to be so narrow that it's only horror movies or TV. I could absolutely see them licensing content from games like Resident Evil, Fatal Frame, and Until Dawn in the future. What's so bad about that?

Maybe It's too new since I cant seem to find info on it? I have bad internet so downloading the PTB will take a while.
Thanks.
-
PLEASE GOD AND BABY JESUS, LET THIS HAPPEN.
Seriously, the game needs to move to an account-based structure a la Fortnite, where we can log into a singular DBD account and play and have access to our stuff on any platform we've bought the game on.
If this happened, I would buy DBD on every system I own. I'd be playing it on Switch at bedtime, I can imagine my wife yelling at me to go to sleep already! 😄
-
Maybe it could be some baseline form of Corrupt Intervention? Or maybe the killer sees survivor auras briefly at the beginning of the match? I'm trying to come up with what else could be really meaningful for a beginning-of-match pacing change.
-
Imagine being disappointed that the new game mechanics aren't wrapped in different textures.
-
Silent Hill and Pyramid Head are pretty iconic. I know you're thinking specifically in terms of movies, but when you look at the horror game landscape, that's pretty top-tier. Horror games are meaningful and can be classics in the same vein as any other type of media! And yeah, Behaviour never really hyped anything or gave any hints or misleading teasers. That was all down to the usual rampant baseless community speculation.

the new killers perks are meh at best, especially with how loud he is . oblivious will be almost useless.
They could be good on other killers. Trail of Torment seems like it might be really beneficial for Myers. And Deathbound seems like it would combo well with Nurse's Calling.

They didn't say anything about it specifically. I assume it will just be a double BP week + the return of the Gruesome Gateau.

Yeah I play the game. If I wanted to hold m1 and hit skillchecks I would be playing some stupid puzzle game.
I mean, this is a bit reductive. It sounds to me like you don't like the basic gameplay loop.
-
Are you sure the killer isn't using Stridor? That perk hard counters Iron Will, and you will hear yourself cry in pain when injured. Unless something is bugged, this is a dead giveaway that the killer has Stridor.
-
Behaviour has a really alien relationship with game settings. They seem to think that basic things like FOV and brightness -- options that are basic comfort-level things -- should be in-game mechanics. It's really dumb.

The real answer is Lithe.

Well this is the thing. There may of been more to that.
Maybe whoever holds the rights sees there is money to be made here.
To be fair, the remake is a dead end film: it was brought out in 2009 and won't see a sequel. But if in some strange turn of events, turns out to be an available option, I say run with it.
The 2010 Nightmare on Elm Street film was no less a dead end, and we have that in DBD. And, devil's advocate: I REALLY liked the Friday the 13th remake, it's top 3 in the franchise for me. Kane Hodder will of course always be THE Jason, but Derek Mears is a close second.
-
I would be a fan of the hatch getting blocked briefly, specifically on the condition that the next-to-last survivor dies by giving up (not the struggle timer running out or any other method). The "oh I suicided to give my friend the hatch lol" stuff is so dumb.
-
DEAR DAVID,
HOW DO YOU FLASHLIGHT CLICK WITH THOSE BOXING GLOVES ON? THAT IS AMAZING!

Posted about a match like this earlier today, except it was even worse -- me (purple rank playing solo) with 3 red ranks, vs. a rank 18 killer with 11 hours in the game. I felt so bad for the guy, I think he only got like 2 hits on people. It's really unacceptable matchmaking.

Yeah if you "Go to Official Club" on the game icon, across the top youll see "welcome multiplayer progress social watch" tabs. Go to progress and theres a few things tracked. Total time, number of kills, number of escapes and bps earned.

Hi. It's not an original character, it's just doing without the 'forbidden' elements of the character's lore. When we say "He's not the boy in the lake, who later witnessed his mother get decapitated"...we all know he is. We know those events happened yet understand the circumstances to why they're not detailed as such.
But with others mentioning that 'Jason Voorhees' and 'Camp Crystal Lake' are apparently useable terms, the loss of authenticity shrinks significantly.
If the chapter went ahead as The Jason Voorhees Chapter, without Friday 13th in the title, we would still be getting that killer.
It would be disappointing not to include elements of Pamela in Jason's power and ability, but it would be easy scooting round the mother and drowning boy elements when adjusting the killer's lore.
It could be just described that he was left to live in the woods at a young age and that several years later he witnessed a murder.
I agree it wouldn't work to have him brought in as something like the 'Camp Slasher' or 'Masked Maniac' etc. It would need the 'Jason' name in the very least to make it authentic.
Yeah, I see what you mean now.
I don't know what the particulars of the "off limits" stuff might be after this litigation is settled, since it only pertains to the first movie. But yeah, they could find some creative ways around it in the lore, and Jason the hockey-masked killer was obviously not part of the original film. I guess we'll have to see what the ultimate legal resolution is, but they could very well wind up doing basically what they did with Ghost Face, except more true to the franchise.
