I think the vast majority can be done without throwing the game
The problem though is there are many players who, either due to their own life time restraints or they're just impatient, do throw the game to get their challenges done.
Like as a killer when they have the "throw X pallets during a chase" challenge, I found many games where a survivor would actively find me, provoke me into a chase, and throw every single pallet in said chase they could find. It's a challenge they COULD do naturally if they just played a few games but they want it done asap so they piss away all the pallets in one chase and screw everyone over as all the pallets are now gone.
I got stuck with the last surv challenge of tome 1, "stun the killer 4 times with pallet"for such a long time that i can relate to some of the survs dropping pallets randomly.

Hello dbd community and bhvr, i'm playing some solo survivor right now and i got into rpd, right away something was off as i had several buffs (up the ante, streetwise, Vigil, prove thyself etc etc) which i've only seen when there was an obvious cheater on my team flying around/instantly completing gens among other things.
So we load in and we'r 3 players near a gen which we get on and complete, i then move and open a chest nearby and the game gets stuck in a buzzing sound like it crashed, how unfortunate i thought my internet must have gone down, i tab over to a game named black desert online that i was afk fishing in and no my internet is fine & the tabed chrome windows works as they should.
I check my task manager and see that dead by daylight is not responding (the usual when a game crashes) but then i see all my 32GB of ram is maxxed out on Deady By Daylight, so i force close dbd and task manager shows normal results again.
If you try to spectate some cheaters while they're still in the match your game crashes, so it's known that their cheat programs have the capability, but now even more so?
Have you guys experienced anything simillar and bhvr can you even do anything about this? not only do they try to ruin matches, are they trying to damage peoples hardware? (question for you tech guru's)
I don't know if it was caused by a cheater, but i can say that dbd is really strict sometimes with internet connection.
I got several games where my connection got down for like 1-2sec and i got instantly kicked out of the game, something that shouldnt be that precise since you cant reconnect like other games like Lol or Csgo

Like going for the challenges such as glyphs instead of doing gens and unhooks.
My problem with some challenges is that they are not designed to be finished in a normal gameplay. Some of them require you to be in a very specific situation that would rarely come to play unless you force them.
I remember being stuck with "Hide at xx mts of the killer while injured for 90 sec" all 90sec needed to be done in the same trial.
Just why

It's queue times.
When survivor queues are instant, there is absolutely nothing stopping them from killing themselves on hook. They can use this to get out of a match early and immediately go to another, or have the luxury of shopping around for 3000+ hour teammates or 4 medkit/BNP toolbox teams. Generally survivors in this game state are unhappy, BUT have the ability to quickly cycle through matches to find one they like, enabling and even encouraging their bad behavior since they technically did not disconnect.
When killer queues are instant, as pre-6.1.0, it means the role is largely miserable. Yes, they get to shop around as well for no-item no-obvious-SWF lobbies, but this was not enough. Generally killers in such a state of the game are also unhappy, but do NOT have the survivors' ability to quickly cycle through matches. A killer game that goes bad enough to cause them to give up is often a 10+ minute wait for the killer if they don't want to eat a DC penalty, so they'll often begrudgingly play it out anyway.
The difference is survivors have no reason NOT to throw the instant things aren't looking up for them, as they don't get penalized outside of having to wait another 5 seconds in queue. If they had to wait 5+ minutes, as was often the case pre-6.1.0, then they'd play it out.
The solution is to add a forced timer to queueing after intentionally dying on hook. War Thunder does something similar, in that if you eject from your aircraft/crash into the ground without being damaged by an enemy you cannot queue with that crew for 8 minutes minus however long you were in the match. DBD could implement this fairly easily - the game already has a flag to cause an immediate sacrifice after 2 ignored struggle skillchecks, just have that event set another flag that prevents the survivor from queueing for a set period of time (7+ minutes) to discourage this behavior.
But survivor queues are instant because there are less players playing on the surv side than before patch 6.1.0.
If you intend to add a forced timer fornthose that DC/Kill on hook, that would lead to even lesser survs and even longer killer queues.
And this timer does not guarantee that the surv that would die on hook will play the game instead. Some would just close the game and come back later, or not come back at all.

It's for if you are caught getting healed and are at like 75%. It's like the old saying, You don't need to outrun the bear, just your buddy. If the killer hits them before you, you gain 35% health hopefully bringing you to full. Pair it up with Self Preservation and you also lose your scratch marks, and if it doesn't heal you to full then it also ends your blood pools and grunts. Not a bad combo, but niche.
Remember that it gives you 35% of your missimg health. If you are already at 75%, it will give you 35% of the 25% you have left (8%) to fully heal, so you will never fully heal from this perk.
Yes, i think you can pair it with Yun-jin 's Self Preservation and Haddie's inner focus to activate them all at once but it's a really niche combo

Yea I agree. It happens, but it’s too situational to get value, for my taste. Sometimes your teammates get downed or hit too close to you, and you’re forced to move in fear of the killer switching his attention on you- if he hears your groaning or sees you in his peripheral. I’m assuming it’ll still be active if you make it somewhere safe to heal, in that scenario.
Plus i cant really imagine any scenarios where this perk can be used effectively.
if you are trying to proc it casually, it is too situational. Like, you are doing a gen with another surv and the killer hits him instead of you but you need to be lucky that the killer does not target you instead.
If you try to force its activation, you would be chasing after the killer who would be chasing after another surv. That's just plain trolling.
No matter what you do, it is not worth it for 35% missing health.

How do you know they're going to be tunneled just because they're new? If matchmaking is working as intended, they should be going against some killers they're level, maybe some killers your level, and maybe some killers in-between, which was an anti-smurf measure baked into the MMR system. Neither solos nor SWF are given a safe zone just because.
But you're comparing apples to oranges anyway. You went from the buffs and debuffs conversation to suddenly talking about playstyle. Tunneling is a playstyle just like being altruistic is a playstyle, but being efficient (in the case of SWF) is not, and that's the one thing you've left out.
First of all, matchmaking truly does not work well, at least not in my region. I am not in a high MMR as i dont escape very often(700h i have), but still i (very) frecuently play against +3000h nurses or blights that are clearly good players.
Second, when i mention about tunneling is because i assume you understand that the basekit killer buffs are increasing the amount of games the killers tunnels, as they have more time and surv have shorter chases.
Said that, it is not that i KNOW that my friends will be tunneled in a way of me assuming the outcome of the game before playing, it is what has been happening to my friends in most games. I dont know if killer read the steam profile of players, or see if they have classic outfit or sth like that but most games the killer runs straight to my 50h-100h friend to tunnel him out of the game as quickly as possible.
It is a sad state for casual players

But why does the killer deserve to auto-lose matches against other survivor teams who want to win, simply because you want to play with your friends? If you're just playing with your friends, then clearly you're playing chill and not making it your main focus to win, but the killer still is and he still can't beat you because of the coordination and time saving you get for free by using comms. Now take that and apply it to a team of 4 survivors who are near-perfectly efficient with gens and with chases. They should be beating the killer basically every time if they don't make several huge mistakes.
If you're going to have a 3rd party advantage over the killer, you should be debuffed. Otherwise, it's not fair to the killer or to solos that the game has to be balanced around your brokenness.
It is the same argument as why SoloQ players or casuals deserved to be destroyed by killers overbuffed to face swat SWF at the other end of MMR?
If you play with friends that are relatively new to dbd they also dont deserve to be hardtunneled by most killer they go against

Yeah, not understandable.
I mean, I get Botany Knowledge to some extend. However, it would have made more sense to keep BK as it is (or buff it to 50%) and just cap Healing Speed. The Main Problem was never Botany Knowledge, it was that if you were stacking Healing-Perks that you can get Heals which are way too fast.
With capping it you would be free to buff Healing-Perks without them being problematic when combined. And they would also be more freely when creating other Perks without the need of nerfing those/making them weaker or nerfing other Perks which might be too good with new Perks.
But Calm Spirit. I really dont know. I mean, someone at BHVR must have seen that the Perk is really situational and thought about buffing it. But I cannot really imagine how someone else then jumps in and said that doing Totems and Chests silent would be too good, so they nerfed the Perk overall.
They are over cautious of any perk buff being too strong, to the point they wouldnt risk a buff without a cost

There is not really a reason it shouldn't come back. The new dead hard is so worthless, especially having a tiny window of 0.5 sec where latency prevents it from being used. Devs have already reverted part of the killer meta while the entire community have denounced that the patch has broken the game. Solo survivor is completely dead because killers are so OP now.
Survivors will never have any good perks because devs are scared of killer mains. There's no other reason. Killers get a super strong meta perk in every DLC and survivors have to play a chess game to figure out how to get a perk to work.
I agree, i dont think the devs realised when nerfing DH to 0.5 how latency really can screw the perk.
I could never understand why they would bring back the PR + DMS combo back, instead of just fixing the bug with merciless storm. It's not so much of a "meta shake up" if they just revert previous killers combo. or maybe they would need to clarify it was only the survs that needed to be shaken up.
Even if you have to play a chess game to figure out how to combo new perks into something remotely useful, there are some new perks i still have no idea how they dont realise they will be instant E-tier/F-tier on release.
Take Jonah's Corrective action, you could fuse Corrective Action with Technician to prevent you and your teammates from failing skill checks and it would still be a horrible perk.
Take Yoichi's Dark theory, the amount of setup and luck you need to be able to use A 2% HASTE BUFF efficiently is shocking

I wouldn't put lightborn on because flashlights are generally very easy to deal with.
But very few teams all switch to flashlights at the last second because they intend to play normally. I've never in my time playing this game seen four players switch to flashlights last second and end up not facing a bully squad.
How they play the game is up to them, i am not defending bully squad or the survs that do macro clicking with flashlight.
All i am saying is even if you were against the chillest, fairer swf, they would probably do a last second switch just to avoid lightborn.
It's like it was with the old hatch, where people would last second switch to a character with a key to avoid franklin's.
That is not toxic at all.

How is it dirty to switch characters in lobby? Man, i honestly believe that killers take everything a surv does as a justification for tunneling/camping.
If they want to play with four flashlights, they obviously have to do some last second switching or the killer will see and put lightborn negating all items at once

But she complained that she couldn´t anymore, because the game was to hard now. That its not casual anymore for survivors.
Tbh, if killers have to sweat, then so do survivors. If survivors can relax, than so should killers. All in the appropiate mmr region. So that sweaty people are matched with sweaty people and relaxed ones with relaxed ones.
Well, it is not casually anymore for survivors. If you play with low level teammates, it is very likely for the killer to tunnel/camp the weakest surv at 5 gens to ensure a 4k.

Balancing around casuals is just something you don't do. I know one time someone tried to make a comparison between DBD and Mario Party or Mario Kart and say, "They balance for casuals in those games and they're popular still, so it must work." No, they just don't balance those games, because the players in those games are all playing the same role. DBD has two different roles which play completely different. But anyway, this is a ridiculous discussion. If the community of a game is big and it's competitive, you balance for the top. To do that you observe the top level games, and nothing less, and take your data from that. Leaving things that are broken in the game just because people at the bottom and mid levels didn't know how to abuse them has driven people away from this game. Of that I am sure.
Even if i agree with the balancing around casuals, you cant have most casual players be destroyed by killers just because there are elite SWF in the other end of MMR that wins against killer.
How will new players react to starting dbd and being tunneled straight in their first games?
I know this is anecdotal, but i used to play with three friends that were casuals (less than 150h all of them) and they all moved to other games since they got frustrated of constantly being tunneled, camped, bleed out for the sake of easy 4k.

They wouldnt have buffed the killers if there wasnt an actual issue with the kill rates so yeah im sure the biggest problem still lies on the survivors themselfs and not leaning against very strong perks like DH and endgame DS.
Dcs and insta rage quits are the biggest issue for me not the fact that killers are playing well. I still see survivors that can loop even good killers very well while others do gens and dont hide in corners. Usually these matches end 3-4 survivors getting out of the matches.
Also the fact that you say going against a good killer is not fun just tells me all i need to know... I love going against good killers that dont lean on tunneling and camping anyone but kill survivors with their actual skill. I dont mind losing at all to them and i always give them props at the endgame chat
In my experience, even good killers still tunnel and camp at 5 gens since it is the safest way for to get 4k. They wont even bother to chase another person until the first hooked one dies
-
@Tostapane said:
as i said before in other threads, they should relegate SWF to custom matches, in that way they will keep this feature unchanged and giving incentives to people who want play solo (and killer, since it isn't fun facing SWF generally speaking). The problem that solo survivor have isn't the killer being too strong, but your team being extremely bad most of the times imo.
The problem that solo survivor have is dbd is balancing the strength of the killer to face against swat SWF, so people playing soloQ cant expect their 3 teammates to have perfect coordination for unhooking/repairing/looping to compete with full comm swf.
Adding that things like the mmr system giving you two 50-100h teammates against a 3000h nurse, and the recent buffs that makes tunneling and camping more usual makes soloQ a nightmare

Considering killers got a very popular meta back with DMS+Scourge Hook, dead hard and self-care should be returned to make survivor gameplay a little more bearable and add some hope and fun back.
This is only one very small baby step to helping ease the misery and lack of motivation of survivors.
Survivor morale is the lowest in the history of DBD.
Dead hard will never come back, at least not in the way it was before 6.1.0. It just wouldnt make sense.
Think that the devs are already extremely careful with any new survivor perk actually being good so they release exclusively weak or situational perks at best. They will not even consider bring back one the strongest perks

I just want to understand why. Why are you accomplishing with this? Losing your own time?
Why you just don't leave the game and move on? Can't get how some people can't handle a win at all.
You can't complain about killers being toxic if you do this every time you survive. This is the type of behaviour that makes killers camp and tunnel...this is where toxicity is born.
If the survivor is at the door then go there and hit him/her and force them to escape. If you dont want to move then do another thing. It is not like you are unable to move or anything.
"This is the type of behaviour that makes killers camp and tunnel".
######### is that way of thinking, if you dislike toxic bhvr from surv you shouldnt justify tunneling/camping inmediately after.
Is like saying "i was robbed yesterday, so now i am going to rob to another person".

I will go out of my way to camp and tunnel each and every one i find. It is the easiest, most bs gameplay in my opinion. you make the killer waste all of his time and because he cant find you your teammates get juggled. its a selfish way to play and very unfair in my opinion. if my mmr is high enough to where i have to be on my toes at all time the fact someone can just hide is really annoying. I just had a girl working on a gen on dead daweg and go for saves but i could never freaking find her. its the worst feeling in the game
But using stealth is not some cheat or unfair strategy.
I mean, as a survivor you are encouraged in certain situations to hide and do your best to not be seen for the killer, as some of them are hard to loop. The killers are always faster than the survivors, so trying to hide and "survive" is a common thing to do.
Even if you were good at looping, many survivors would not risk looping unless they didnt have a choice, as killers got a buff in chases in p 6.1.0, with faster bloodlust and surv less sprint on hit

I don't think a single nurse got more than a 2K on them even after they reached high MMR. Even the blights were more lethal. People on this forum pretend like there are god nurses all over the place. The bigger problem is that the average solo queue player is just woefully unprepared to play against nurse.
So 1 out 5000 players can play against 99% nurses. Balanced!

But if you do not do that, then you should consider that it was your choice not to be ready for that. Therefore, It depends on you, and DCing because of something that is your fault... Well, you should be accountable for that.
But the topic is not about slugging as a strategy. Is when there is only one surv left and the killer slugs just to see his/her bleed out. Even if you had unbreakable/exponential, if the killer is next to you, you will go down again so its pointless to continue

The problem was not thana by itself, it is the slowdown meta.
Maybe you can play against thana, but when thana is combined with gift of pain, deadlock, sloppy, eruption, jolt, pentimento, it can drag games to an absurd amount of time (+30min) as i believe there is no set amount for how much you can stack repair penalties. and thana was the easiest to proc out of all slowdown perks

Yes. Your teammates are the deciding factor of a game. If your teammates are bad, you shouldn't be able to win from your skill alone.
The game is balanced around mid tier SWF that are trying, but not tryharding. Not swat teams. So you're wrong there as well.
Bloodlusting doesn't work to win games as killer, it requires spending too much time in chase. Bloodlust is therefore not an issue.
Yes, and it's still possible.
And you literally just proved it. More tedious than impactful. None of those killers shoot up in power by running Thanatophobia, they just make the game take a while.
If killers are running meta slowdown perks, why should you be able to win if you're not running SWF or at least have good teammates with good perks? You shouldn't be able to win against meta without running it as well.
Survivors got their meta destroyed because the meta perks for survivors were in a completely different tier than any other perk, to the point that not running them was throwing. Survivor perks are still viable, they simply have less of a power gap between meta and non-meta. Which is a good thing.
If you're having such a horrible time playing solo, play SWF, play killer, or quit. Stop complaining about something that can't and won't be changed without killing the game.
so play with friends or quit the game.
and then people whine about killer long queue times

If you're facing killers with thousands of hours, you shouldn't be able to beat them without a team with thousands of hours. If you could, the game would be unbalanced.
A separate queue for SWF would kill the game. Most people won't want to play against them and SWF makes up the majority of the player base.
You're carried because of the fact that your TEAMMATES were using those perks. Even if you weren't using it, your games were directly affected by DH. The 10% buffs do basically nothing, so stop blaming them. The extra time on gens is more tedious than impactful.
Solo needs buffs, but stop trying to get killers nerfed because you aren't willing to run the same meta they are
"If you're facing killers with thousands of hours, you shouldn't be able to beat them without a team with thousands of hours. If you could, the game would be unbalanced."
so if i have thousand of hours on dbd but i am not in a team, i deserve to lose?
"SWF makes up the majority of the player base"
But the game is balanced around thinking Every single SWF is a top 4man elite squad SWF, which is nonsense.
"You're carried because of the fact that your TEAMMATES were using those perks"
And i could run longer, and i could spent less time on gens, the killer didnt get bloodtier early
"The 10% buffs do basically nothing"
Have you tried to unhook someone with built-in STBFL and the perk itself?
"The extra time on gens is more tedious than impactful."
Thana Legion, Thana Plague, Thana blight
"but stop trying to get killers nerfed because you aren't willing to run the same meta they are"
#########, what meta are killer running? they are building the same meta as before, slowdown perks.
Yes, they had to change some perks, but where before they had ruin, scourge hook, corrupt, tinkerer now they have thana, jolt, eruption, gift of pain.
survivors got all meta perks destroyed and only received OTR

Your teammates still used it and had longer chases than they should have. You didn't have to run DH to be carried by it.
Genrush is essentially not interacting with the killer at all to finish the game as fast as possible.
You said you have a 30% escape rate in solo queue now, meaning that you don't have to play SWF to escape. Admit it, you want easy wins.
I want a fair chance of survival, i dont want the game to punish me because i dont have comms or friends with 3000h on dbd.
If the devs are so afraid of SWF, they can make a separate a queue entirely of killer vs SWF and buff the killer everything they want, but at least i would have the opportunity to play the game without being destroyed by killers buffed to counter swat squads.
What annoys me the most is people like you telling me i am being carried by old perks that i didnt use while the game is making me run less on chases, making me stay longer on gens, making the killer hit faster and break thing faster, making the killer faster with early bloodlust just to guarantee you effortless 4k.

You were carried by DH and genrush, now you aren't. So yeah, you suddenly did realize that you're bad. You always were honey, it wasn't a decision.
SWF should be required to have a high escape rate, otherwise SWF would be broken.
wow, obviouly it was DH. The perk i used like two games and replace it with Lithe. and Genrush? really?
What is Genrush to you? because players call everything Genrush nowadays.
i repair one gen after the killer hooks one surv? Genrush
the gates are powered and there 2 survs left? Genrush
If SWF are required to have a chance of escape, that means soloQ players are really not meant to play dbd, which will lead to more players leaving the game, which will lead to you spending 15 min killer queues to face a 4 SWF.

And the actually good killers are at best 1% of the player base.
You're getting destroyed by bad killers, because, you guessed it, you're bad. I have no issue in SWF or solo. If you're playing solo, you need to accept that you'll die from teammates sometimes.
Killers weren't over buffed, you and your teammates are bad. Play SWF next time if you don't want deaths to be out of your control.
So i could escape 60% of games before patch and now that i can barely escape 30% am suddenly bad.
I simply woke up after patch 6.1.0 and suddenly i am bad at dbd.
The game shouldnt force you to SWF to have a chance of escaping, i dont have 10 friends with 10000h each to counter the sudden boost to all killers so i am stuck with soloQ hell where every killer tunnels/camp you the moment they see you and your random stranger teammates are required god skills to try to reach endgame.

It is teammates. It's always been teammates. There's a reason SWF is doing fine while solo queue isn't, honey.
Maybe because the swat 4man SWF is like a 10% at best of the playerbase and the other 90% that dont have comms or 5000h each are being destroyed by overbuffed killers?
