Nope. Still the same as survivor. Random freezes during a game. In chase, multiple freezes after you get hit... the usual stuff. Still unplayable for me, but thanks for trying.

Wanted to try this at least.

Just to confirm, are you on PS4 pro and do you have it set to 1080p or 4k ?

  • Okay so just played a few games of deathslinger, I could just spam aim down sights constantly with no stuttering, that's the first time I've experienced that since I bought him.

The stutters are still there but they feel far more manageable and a lot less disruptive, it's like major stutters only last half as long and the mini stutters no are more like a fps dip than the game choking.

Not a magic fix but definitely helps ease the pain, I'd upload a video of the differences but ironically I can't now :v

  • Okay just had 3 games the stutters are far more manageable, any PS4 users I recommend you try this, check previous post.

  • So I've only had chance to test on one game and can't try again till tomorrow, but I went into my PS4 pro broadcast settings and reduced the saved recording size down from 15mins to 30 seconds and changed the recording file size from 1920x1080 to 1280x1080 and had a match on the game with phead and I must said it did feel like it helped the stuttering a fair bit, certainly not made them go away but felt like shorter chokes, possibly placebo or just a lucky game but feel free to give it a try.

  • On the plus side there won't be many slow down perks and with an endgame build you'll have had plenty of chances to make your points before that build activates.

  • I feel you man, currently playing a deathslinger that stutters every time he goes to aim down sights, really goes well with insta shots... But at least they acknowledged they are still working to fix it so that's something I guess.

When i say current gen i mean PS4 and Xbox One

When i say next gen i mean PS5 and Xbox Series X

From what people have said, it seems like next gen consoles aren't suffering as much.

Yeah that's why I asked, thanks for clarifying.

  • @Luciferr_2nd said:

This is so sad :( Can't even play killer just look at the video...

Devs, look at this video please, and all the other evidence

There is no reason why current gen consoles should be suffering from a 5 year old game

    https://youtu.be/OvB6pS5glv8

Just for clarification do you mean current gen as in the newest consoles ?

I love how the Trickster laughs and talks to himself. It makes him feel more like the human he is.

Everyone else is supernatural in some way, but the Trickster is just a dude with a bat and throwing knives. He's not mute like 99% of the Killer roster (I think the Huntress is the only other Killer who makes any 'human' noises that are not breathing).

I love listening to him chuckle and talk to himself.

I really appreciate how they didn't make him sound like an anime character that you almost half expect looking at him, he very authentically sounds like he's pulled out of some super dark Korean mobster/serial killer movie. All of the sound work on him is miles above the rest. I've spent most the day playing him for all his struggles he's super chill.

Considering the links to support and the forum rules also on that panel that about 2 people seem to recognise it isn't out of the question they'd be missed

To be fair I was prob reading your posts a bit more sarcastically than intended

But why would you keep trying to play the game if you know it frustrates you? That's what I don't understand.

Because there is currently a bp farming event on and the grind in this game is huge.

  • @Orion said:

I just gotta ask: if the game is unplayable on console, why do you keep trying to play it? I've had one game that didn't work on my PC, through no fault of my PC. I just uninstalled it and called it a day.

I don't think people expecting what they paid for to work is too far fetched.

No? I literally use my phone for this site all the time are you good?

I'm saying that people play games on their consoles while having a Laptop for other uses not powerful enough for gaming- literally like me before I got my PC last year. A lot of people I know do this- and some people just straight up use their xbox to browse websites instead of a phone or pc lol.

And if I was on a laptop, I'm pretty sure I would have noticed a side panel that you went to a lot of effort to show me how obvious it was.

  • So you're saying I need to use a laptop to browse the forums and not my phone, are you okay ?

  • If I was browsing the forums on a PC I don't think I'd be complaining about console issues.

  • All it would take is one dev who touchs base with us on the forums just to let us know what's happening, sure that's over the top on small issues, but when things are this bad it does so much to help people be patient, they even rally to support you, history has shown this time and again.

  • The only change I think they need to make in the future is for the cakes to payout a lump sum of BP and not make it a %, then neither side can ######### with each other's enjoyment of event benefits.

  • I'm super excited for a trickster buff, now im not playing him just coz I like his theme now I'm training :v

Dunno if it means anything to you, but this was posted on twitter.

It's something, I avoid Twitter like the plague because it's a cesspit and when I did check before the only time they would address performance issues were very selectively in response to people's nemesis/RPD issues, did not install confidence.

  • @Laluzi said:

The Trickster buffs actually look good except for the laceration decay - that's going to hurt him a lot and really rewards survivors for bringing him to shack or other tricky high wall setups. Basically, I think they magnified his existing attributes - they made him stronger out in the open, where he already excelled at, but weaker against strong loops.

His Main Event buff is good in that it really answers the biggest complaints people had with it - too-long loading time and inability to save it for any length of time. Unsure how the 30-knife requirement will land, though. (Does it require you have 30 knives, or require you to land 30 knives?)

As an aside, I'm loving what they did to No Way Out. It might actually become a viable endgame perk like people originally thought it would be now that it applies when survivors first attempt to open a gate.

On the plus side though a team can't win a game living in the killer shack

  • The winner was pig who got ruin on her second bloodweb, tis a sign from the gods.

I assume with pig I just get noed and then invite everyone to boop the snoot and murder them all ?

Will go for Nem next I think, thanks for the help guys.

  • @DBD78 said:

I would go for Pig because she is most fun. But remember only Trapper and Trickster are worse, so it's only if you care about fun. If you want to win then Oni 😀

I've spent the whole day playing a trickster who freezes every time he readies to throw his knives, I'm playing the worst killer except I've put him in a wheel chair and put a blindfold on him, simply because I enjoy his theme.

  • @Steel_Eyed said:

Oni is the best of the three but I recommend shards purchase as well. Second I would pick Nemesis and the only thing hesitating me is the reports of frame drops while using his power. That with the precision required to use it means Nemesis may not be a good purchase for consoles.

On console all the killers freeze up using their powers at the moment, I've leveled most of them to 50 this week so trust me, nemesis can't possibly be any worse.

    #pray4consoles

  • 0 votes for the newest killer, oof

  • Yeah I was kinda leaning towards pig, Oni on console sounds like a painful experience

  • @Almo said:

No, that was completely not what happened. I know people like to think that, but I can't get adjustments to things past the Lead Designer if I don't have valid justifications for them. I don't just get to change whatever I want. :) That perk's effect was changed only to affect certain skill checks as a means of normalizing the design and making it more maintainable. If it affected every skill check, then in the future every time we add a skill check effect to something, we have to worry about how that perk would affect it.

And if I recall correctly (this was quite a while ago now), that change would not have made any difference to that string of (however many) checks I missed since those were generator repair checks. I would still have missed them after the update. :D

Hey almo sorry to highjack a thread with an unrelated question, but do you have any news about the client stuttering issue the consoles have been plagued with ? We are dealing with so much frustration at the moment just trying to take advantage of the event we can't do anything without the game locking up on and we have had very little information or acknowledgment it would mean a lot to those of us struggling if we could get any insight.

Please don't ban me asking xox

  • Give them a couple of week to sort it, if no news, communication or anything then it becomes time to take it up with Sony, who actually have rules about game stability to sell on their store.

Can't speak for Microsoft as I've no idea

They have separate corners for PlayStation / XBOX so actually I don't know if they had a PS5 but I doubt they had one.

Even the two Series X they had weren't listed on the website (that's probably why the employees were surprised).

That member of staffs gonna be heartbroken on Monday when he goes in and 1 of his reserved consoles is gone, nice find, congrats

  • As someone who recently got the twins I'm gonna have to ask you to stop immediately.

  • @Mandy said:

I took the message down because we had other messages to go up with regards to the Event - we've publicly acknowledged the situation on other platforms as well as the forums.

And with regards to other avatars, I'm working on it - but a bit tied up with other things right now I'm afraid @Ruma

Thanks for responding Mandy, with things getting worse it just seemed a bit odd, don't suppose there's any update on whether they have worked out the cause of the issue ?

  • You'd really think the cake would just pay you a bonus of BP at the end of the game and not add a % so nobody could ruin the gameplay or be encouraged to farm to begin with.

  • @MandyTalk Could we please be told why the announcement was taken down when the problem has for worse ?

Would appreciate any insight you could offer, thank you.

Is this confirmed or is this more along the lines of well-thought out theory crafting?

If so I'd love to see some quotes from them about this!

Ha I wish anything was confirmed, the SSD fix is a real thing for the issue for a lot of people on PC and the client stuttering in such a way definitely makes it seem correct, hell I can hear my PS4 HDD no other game is making it sound that way.

They also are in no position to abandon last gen with this issue for so long simply because it will be at least another year before they become the current gen, if they did try it would eventually be removed from the ps store for being a broken product.

They have to fix it basically and I'm sure they will they just need to work on their communication and transparency rather than shafting us because they don't want it to look bad on their Capcom release and their 5 year Anniversary event.

Tl;dr: All we have is theory while they refuse to open with us

  • @Bastard_Disaster said:

I seriously and whole-heartedly believe that BHVR is just sitting on their hands and posting little messages every now and then while getting maybe an intern to look into how they could fix last gen optimization.

Then they'll do this and say 'we're working on it' which TECHNICALLY isn't a lie; until the newest gen consoles mostly phase out the old gen then they can go 'Nah it's fine, no one plays on old gens anyway!'

Very pessimistic and very cynical. But that's what BHVR has made me think about their company and development progress.

Last gen consoles basically can't play this game right now, it's atrocious how bad this game is. They need to recognise this issue and give us a roadmap for fixing it, they DO love their arbitrary time constraints as seen with a number of their DLC's after all.

Worst thing is with the 5th anniversary patch on the new loading screens I'm seeing 'quotes' from BHVR staff AND THERE IS PEOPLE WHOSE JOB TITLE IS PLAY TESTING AND QA. WHAT.

It's understandable to have the belief they are trying to just wait out old gen however it's not really an option they have.

The issue with the client on all platforms at the moment is something to do with it's data streaming that's making the harddrive make the client stutter, the only reason next gen is helping mask the problem is because a SSD naturally helps compensate for an issue of that nature.

Many PC users have had similar issues on their client that was solved with a SSD, there's nothing in the old gens hardware that couldn't run DBD at 60 fps (if the client was written properly) and if BHV were to just ignore fixing this client problem by the time next gen consoles are widespread enough to be standard all the extra content that's been piled onto this problem will actually stop the SSD being a workaround and even more issues will come as a consequence.

They don't really get to ignore or wait this one out, because it's just going to get worse and worse.

  • @BigKuhfahl said:

How come this game all of a sudden have more Toxicity and Try Hard players than ever within the time of this game is out and it just seems even worse because of the 5th Anniversary like I don't expect farming but holy hell it's just been a cake waster it's like killers also don't want blood points like my last few games before coming to the community I've had a Trapper, Oni, Wraith and a Deathsliger down everyone and let us bleed out no hooking like what is the deal with that the game isn't competitive

I remember frequenting the steam forums when the game was a few months old and the number of threads with the same complaints was the same then as it is now.

Hm, a 5 year old game with a break through in the asymmetrical genre that has almost all of iconic franchises in it is not news worthy.

    Ok.

Given the fact they would have easily known they were going to break the game for all consoles by pushing the update from their own internal testing and they still pushed it and took our money for it and then downplayed the situation on the release of a major resident evil license I'm pretty sure it is new worthy.

If they stay silent for much longer without it being fixed as I said before, it's time to go to Capcom themselves and express your disappointment with how you bought such a broken product that you trusted due to it having their IP associated with it.

Capcom have very high standards with their licenses, the rhetoric on these forums that they don't care as long as their making money shows a serious lack of understanding to how it works.

  • I mean trickster isn't good, but there's something so incredibly relaxing playing him, maybe it's because you go in with such a low expectation.

  • Well I'm re-downloading the game while I sleep to see if it does anything to help, I'll let you know if it helps at all (it won't).

  • Survivors are a bloody nightmare to help, hey if I go unbelievably easy on you and it's clear I'm letting you farm up as much as possible would you mind letting me get my hooks before you leave, it's not even like their being dicks about it they just look terrified I'm gonna turn and kill them all at any second and then they all run away terrified...

  • @gilgamer said:

I mean you ask if we are gonna address it yet that's been a main focal point of conversation since this chapter came out. BHVR has made multiple tweets about it and there have been many forum posts on it. So its not like people haven't been talking about. Now has BHVR done anything about it? not really because its BHVR. I've seen some people say its gotten somewhat better but also plenty of people who claim its only gotten worse with each patch.

"FPS issues" is a serious downplay of the reality of the situation.

  • @Shaped said:

You guys are ruining my mood. I wish I got back before re chapter and played some more before this happened.

Now you are making me think it is really over for us. And them removing the notice (still gone) makes me bummed I won't be able to play properly once more.

It can't be over yet. I want to play once more on this gen like I did before at least for a month. Then I will be satisfied.

I don't personally believe it's over, the fact the issue is causing HDD related choking means the issues they have created is serious and going to be a pain to straighten out, it's definitely not a "bug", I think it's been brewing problem with how it streams data while you play and the last chapter has just been the breaking point. Regardless they have to fix it, them not making an official statement on the severity of the problem is only going to last so long before they face serious backlash and consequences.

I imagine they feel serious pressure to fix it with the Capcom license being involved, but it being fixed next Tuesday might be wishful thinking for a issue of this magnitude.

  • @Grimmy_Bluues said:

I'm mainly baffled at how they thought it's a good idea to start the event sooner when console performance is this bad. They really should've delayed it, and if they don't, at least extend it until console players can actually play the game.

I'm of the personal belief that their terrified of bad press right now as they've just released the Capcom licensed chapter and Capcom are super strict about how you handle their licenses so we've been sold down the river.

  • You need to condense you're trolling down to way less words or it kind of losses the point.

  • From what I've come to gather, no, they are actually doing their best to avoid even acknowledging the state of console right now, I guess their pretending it doesn't exist so they don't have to acknowledge how ######### up it was to sell the RE chapter to us knowing what it did to consoles from their internal play testing.

  • I'm so god damned sick of missing every single ability I try to throw out because my HDD locks up on console, this is actually torture and I feel I have to deal with it because I bought these killers to lvl up in the event like a moron.

  • @BingBongMan said:

At this point they can either stop and fix it, prioritizing the games health for longevity. Or keep going and hope everything works in the short term.

So far it doesn't look like they're prioritizing game health.

Well there's 2 potential issues that could be preventing then from coming to logical conclusion, the first is the investor cycles which I mentioned before, where they have to be constantly producing sellable content to hit sales numbers which is likely.

Second can be the scenario where the company is full of managers and team leads who constantly downplay every situation to the people above them to make themselves seem more competent and that everything's under control leading to a lot of distilled information spread throughout the company ( ironically a big factor in the cyber punk situation ) and game companies are rampant with this problem.

    Under a different team? No.

With a different team supplementing the current one? Yes.

The current team has created an excellent idea, and that's not something to scoff at. Dead by Daylight is an incredible idea with incredible potential. However, I do agree that it seems that the current team is unable to give it what it needs in order to realize that potential.

That is why I would be interested in BHVR outsourcing some of the coding and optimizing to a different team, but maintaining the design process in-house.

My sentiments exactly, I'm just worried that they can't afford it and they are trapped in a quarterly target cycle that's actually making it impossible to address the 18 foot elephant in their success that lies in the base code.

  • @FancyMrB said:

It is because of the devs the game is where its at. The good and the bad (but a lot more good). If bhvr wasn't handling DBD anymore it wouldn't be DBD.

I don't know their internal workings but maybe if the growth was unexpected they are looking to hire more people onto the team?

Bhvr has done an amazing job growing its game, collecting licenses, and creating original characters. I would hate to see what would happen of some soulless company took it... loot boxes, shrine gone, out of control balance changes. Talk about a nightmare!

Well don't worry BHV know until they rewrite the game to fix the horrific code it's built upon no knowledgeable company would want to buy it. Hell all they have to do is make their own DBD that's written properly and they will be miles ahead of them while they wait for this dec of cards to fall down.

I'm just hoping they have enough sense to realize they don't have long left to do something because theirs not much more this client can handle tacced on to it.

  • It's nothing to do with what they can or can't handle, it'd the fact that the engine was so poorly coded and they are forced to keep adding more onto it to make sure their investors are seeing those quarterly numbers yet the foundation can't handle it.

Until BHV finally rewrite the game from the ground up it's gonna get worse and worse and no management can prevent it
